20 Best 2 Drawer Filing Cabinets (2022 Updated)

The design of this two-drawer lateral file cabinet is very attractive and so are the drawer pulls. The color is attractive and it holds a lot of files. I took one star off because there is definitely some off- gasing going on that I hope will fade in time.

I took another star off because I can’t figure out if the finish is actually painted or if it is some kind of paint tape applied to the board.

I just finished assembling my Sauder Edge Water lateral filing cabinet and I am very pleased with it! It’s a nice looking piece and has ample room for file storage — it is larger than I expected it would be! I found the assembly instructions to be very well done and the time to complete it was reasonable.

I am an average strength woman who has a good deal of experience putting together pieces like this. It took me about 2 hours to complete this on my own. With a second set of hands and some expertise, you could make even faster work of it.

Just take your time and read the instructions carefully, including referring to the inset notes and diagrams and reading each step completely before beginning that step. If you do that, you should have no problems! My biggest concern was drawer assembly — I wasn’t sure whether the drawers would slide smoothly and fit squarely in the frame of the cabinet once assembled.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the fit is great and everything slides smoothly. It is a well designed piece! I have not yet put files in it because I am still deciding where to put the cabinet in my office.

I am giving this four stars instead of five because I am pretty sure I won’t want to move the cabinet once it has files in it. it seems solid enough to store stuff with no problem, but once you put some weight in it and start dragging it around, it might put some strain on the assembly.

I would describe it as well constructed but not super sturdy. Sturdy enough though. For the price, I am very happy with it, and it’s a handsome addition to our office space!.

Yeah, it is sturdy and well designed. For example, the back and bottom are structural. The rails seem quite decent and the “open only one drawer at a time so it won’t tip over” feature is a nice plus.

But, it is a pain to assemble. I found the directions a bit ambiguous and therefore had to redo a couple steps. I am quite handy, but nonetheless found that it took more than 4 hours to assemble this sucker.

There were no unboxing instructions, so I managed to scratch the top in the process of removing parts from the box. I bought it for my wife, and she has not yet moved her stuff into the file cabinet and begun using it.

Bought this filing cabinet to match with the credenza. The filing cabinet was easy to put together and everything lines up nicely. Didn’t need to drill any holes myself so that was nice. I love the color and the filing cabinet fits really well in my office.

I would buy the desk in this collection in the future.

Looks great! We just got it put together so we haven’t really used it yet. It seems sturdy so were hoping it lasts!

We ordered these to be installed ourselves and they came installed with multiple damages by the manufacturer. Damage was caused from install and not from shipping. They offered us a measly discount even though they messed up by delivering them installed and damage during install.

No quality control and zero ownership from the manufacturer themselves. You have to deal w a third party vendor Cymax. If you review the attached photos these nails were just rolling around in the top cabinets when they arrived, and the breaks were from someone drilling the screws too much and breaking the top and bottom drawers in both cabinets.

The structural integrity is compromised and they will likely break once weight is added. Worst furniture buying experience ever!.

Nice presence in the room. Color is satisfactory. Exterior is sturdy. Quality is very lacking. The particleboard interior and metal slides were disappointing. The drawers do not function smoothly; bottom drawer doesn’t pull all the way out.

Daily use is not an option. The capacity/size of the interior filing area is very small. Delivered by FedEx and left in driveway in front of garage which was a nightmare for this older customer. Must have an option for “furniture delivery” inside the home with set-up.

I thought that spending this amount of money for a lateral file cabinet would guarantee a quality product. Boy, was I wrong. While assembling the multiply parts, I had to run to Lowes to purchase higher grade screws.

The screws that were included could not be tightened properly due to the shallow indentation of the screw head “X”. After 2 days of putting this cabinet together, I turned it upright and the leg fell off.

I would never buy another product from this manufacturer. It is so distressing to spend so much time and money on a product and be left with such garbage,.

I bought this HON 310 series vertical 2-Drawer Letter-Size File Cabinet to replace a less quality file cabinet which had drawers that were hard to open and would not extend fully, so it was next to impossible to pull out files in the back of the drawers.

I got tired of fighting with it, so spent the extra money to buy a HON. This HON file cabinet’s drawers extend fully and open smoothly! I’ve worked in an office environment all of my adult life and knew that HON made quality file cabinets.

Office Depot’s price was the best that I could find. I have another HON cabinet that I had bought at Costco years ago and it has stood the test of time with a lot of home use. I would highly recommend buying HON and not wasting money on a lesser product.

We have purchased 12 vertical file cabinets over the years as our business has grown. (All from National Business Furniture, as well as all our other office furniture) Up until this point we have been very satisfied.

This cabinet is NOT Heavy Duty! The full extension drawer guides are no where near the quality of the previous units we ordered under the same item number. I knew the unit was different on the outside, but the line drawing of the cabinet showed the heavy duty drawer slides on the bottom of the drawer similar to what we have now.

This cabinet has the drawer slides screwed to the side of the drawer about 1/2 way up. The drawers do not operate smoothly at all and the 2 bottom drawers scrape the cabinet when opened or closed. All in all, we’re very disappointed in this product.

We didn’t buy the cheapest product available as we wanted something rugged enough to last and keep up with the every day use it gets. Unfortunately this is not it. We will not be buying another one and would not recommend it to any one who needs a heavy duty file cabinet.

The file cabinet is nice and does not require extra brackets to hold the hanging folders. The issue I have is the drawers were raked; my family had to try and straighten them out to open and close the drawers.

I do not know if this happens during delivery or from the manufacturer.

This is definitely the price, performance leader for two drawer filing cabinets. Drawer slides work fairly smoothly with a heavy load in the drawer. Casters work decently on carpet. The front hanging folder tends to get stuck to the sheet metal, but I don’t think I really care.

Consider this a 95% grade. Since the 100% grade product is double the price, I remain 100% satisfied with my purchase of this two drawer filing cabinet.

Got these on sale for my law office to store files. These were made by Lorell. The file cabinets are well built, sturdy and stable. The drawers open smoothly even when full. They are also great looking.

Hidden casters make them appear like regular file cabinets and add to the appearance (no ugly exposed casters). Arrived fully boxed and in good condition. A lot less expensive than the Hon cabinets that I almost purchased.

Happy that I purchased these instead.

We’re very happy with our purchase of this two drawer file cabinet! Although it is lightweight, it included two keys and the handles are nicer than standard plain looking handles. The handles were not attached, they need to be assembled but a very easy task.

It exceeded our expectations! After checking out other cabinets available elsewhere, this one is worth it, to get a nicer, locking cabinet that actually includes two keys. Customer service was excellent in answering some questions I had about delivery.

The cabinet is a beautiful grey color. It came as described. There were not any dents which was great considering other reviews. The drawers are deep which is great for storing a lot of files. However, the two bottom drawers were a little difficult to open.

Not a deal breaker though, all you need to do is push the drawer in a little bit and the drawers will open. Very happy with my purchase!.

I was concerned with arriving damaged but it was fine. However manufacturing is not great. Sides are not quite right, the metal pops or appears wavy when touched. The drawers are my part that are not so functional.

They seem to be maybe 1/8 inch to narrow because the hanging folders don’t sit well. The bottom two drawers are the most frustrating, they turn sideways sometimes and pop off the glides. I am hoping with weight of the contents it will adjust some.

I had so much trouble with ordering one not only through staples but other. it’s here to stay! But I personally wouldn’t buy it again.

Product fairly easy to assemble, just a bit confusion on pages 8 & 9 as the file hangers (item Z) appear backwards in the larger illustration – probably meant to show where the screws go, but if you don’t pay attention to the smaller detailed illustration and follow that, you may end up with a problem.

Luckily I worked from the smaller illustration. Pay attention to the sides when mounting item Z and not mix up left and right! Also, the cabinet stinks of formaldehyde or something similar – daily getting fainter but going on over 1 week now.

Assembled, the unit looks good and works well.

The only reason I am giving this four stars instead of five is that the “easy assembly” had me swearing several times–then again, it did recommend two adults, but I only had me! But I got it done, and it’s beautiful.

My other furniture is rustic, log-style–so instead of using the provided drawer pulls I made my own. I’m very pleased with how it turned out. My previous file cabinet was only two drawers, and I love having the extra drawer in this one.

And since the 3 drawer takes up the same floor space as the 2 drawer, it helps optimize storage for my small house.

These look smart and we like the wood finish. ~ looks like a piece of furniture rather than a metal commercial file cabinet. It would have been great to have it deeper, as the drawers are quite shallow.

Fit together quite easily, and the runners are smooth.

Looks great, heavy, and sturdy. As mentioned, somewhat complicated to put together (all filing cabinets are honestly). That said, all the pieces lined up well and no were supplies were missing

Cabinet is very light and flimsy. The metal is so very thin and cheaply made. Quality is definitely not there in this filing cabinet. Pretty pricey for cheap quality. The tracks that support the drawers break if you have any reasonable amount of weight to it.

Will likely be returning this cabinet. Miss my old wooden oak filing cabinet I had bought years ago which broke when we moved. That was by far more superior in quality for about the same price as this cheap quality metal cabinet.

I like the look of this file cabinet and it did come *mostly* assembled. It did not, however, come with handles for the drawers. This makes the drawers non-functional. It also took some searching in the box to find the key for the lock.

Terrible product. Made of lightweight, easily dentable metal. The rear wheels has the worst construction of life and will not stay on. My NEW file cabinet has wheels on the front (they were easy to install and stay in place unlike the back wheel, which you also have to install) and is still on a book without wheels in the back.

Extremely disappointing.

This was delivered with no issues. Not for legal size papers. Was just what I needed for the space I wanted to put it in. Look at measurements before you buy. And the keys were inside the top cabinet on the side with a twist tie.

You have to buy file folders separately. I got a decent set of file folders on Amazon that fit this cabinet. The brand was Herkka extra capacity hanging file folders. Happy with this file cabinet. Perfect for organizing paperwork at home.

This is a decent-quality item for a reasonable price. However, the color of the cardholders on the drawers does not match the picture on the website. The picture showed a black file cabinet with silver handles and cardholders, but the cardholders on the one I received are blue.

I like a traditional look, and blue hardware is not traditional. I got a silver paint marker and am going to try coloring over the blue.

A nice well made cabinet. The only thing I don’t like is the method to hold files upright when the drawer isn’t full. It’s like a bent, fat, stiff wire that you have to take out and move to different holes.

I have some other cabinets that can be adjusted simply by pulling a handle and sliding the partition forward of backward. The later method is much more convenient.

The cabinet serves the purpose but is very flimsy. In fact, the first one was bent in shipping. We returned it (an easy process at Staples). Then the second one was damaged slightly. We decided to keep it because we needed a two drawer locking file cabinet.

Ok for occasional use but I wouldn’t recommend for every day heavy use.

Cheap, thin, very flimsy. It is well engineered, however. The fact that it has a lock I find hilarious. You could pry this thing open with a toothpick. The price was more than twice of what it was worth,.

This is so cool. You can move it around and not be stuck in one office configuration. I really like the Happy color. It took a few minutes to install. The back casters are harder than the front but once you see how it fits it goes smoothly.

I love this product but just a word of warning: it’s dark inside the cabinet, so if you’re trying to find something and you don’t have great lighting in your room, it can be a challenge. I love that the product is all metal, and that it’s easy to clean.

I am using this cabinet to hold my art supplies and office supplies. I kind of wished it was a lighter color inside the cabinet portion like it is in the drawer portion. Also I have to be careful because the black paint does come off if you accidentally scratch it.

This cabinet has low odor. It has an oil paint odor coming from the drawers and is more noticable when you open them. But it is becoming more faint as time goes by. It doesn’t smell up the office. For those who require low odor because of asthma or other conditions, this cabinet may work for you.

HON even said this cabinet emits lower VOC’s. It’s a bit pricy, but worth it at the end to avoid the oil base paint odor that you get with some other file cabinets. The cabinet feels sturdy and the drawers open smoothly.

I was disappointed that it didn’t come with the bars that allow front to back filing. You can purchase those for about $25 online. But if you plan to use it for side to side filing, it is fully equipped with bars for that.

The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars out of 5 is because of the price and it didn’t come with the front to back filing bars which I had to buy separately.

Very nice cabinet, sturdy and strong. The color doesn’t really match my two drawer one, it was hard to match the color from the color samples in the online catalog. Would recommend indicating the model number and color somewhere on the cabinet to reference.

Other than that, I have not regrets. Haven’t put my files in it yet to test if two drawers can open at the same time, but it looks and feels strong enough to do so.

The cabinet came more quickly than we expected. Was exactly as represented. However, a couple of the “cross bars” for letter-sized file set-up don’t fit quite right. We managed to make it work, but again, they don’t quite fit.

Construction seems done in a hurry – top of cabinet not squared up with side walls. Not sure if it will affect stability over time.

This is a very sturdy, beautiful piece. It goes well with my existing office furniture and holds all of the files I need it to. There were a lot of parts, so putting it together took a while, but I was able to do it easily on my own.

The stickers the parts were labeled with came off easily and cleanly, which is not always the case with my WayFair purchases. Overall I’m very happy with this cabinet!.

Nice piece for the price. The instructions were very good and took us about 1-12 hours to put together. Only negative is the bottom drawer doesn’t line up with the top. I can’t think of a reason for that as we put together as instructed and everything fit okay.

Good cabinet for the money. They don’t make anything as heavy as they used to. We have 10 old HON cabinets in our office and they are definitely made heavier than this but this is still better than most out there.

I bought this file cabinet to help organize my documents. So far it has worked out very well. Only problem is that it is almost full (purly my problem 🙂 But this will help me to purge old and unneeded documents more regularly.

Only Con is that the wafer tumber lock provided is very cheap and almost a joke to open with a paper clip or other wafer tumbler keys. I replaced it with a more secure aftermarket pin tumbler lock. Too bad HON couldn’t provide one by default.

Otherwise It seems to be well built and will hopefully provide many years of service.

This cabinet is one of the sturdiest and best quality on the market. I have owned Hon cabinets for years and do not buy anything else.

Beautiful piece of furniture–perfect for our needs. Really nice finish, and the drawers open and close easily. Plenty of file space for our piano music. Delivery was excellent. We were notified two days prior to the actual delivery date.

The delivery person was very careful handling the piece and making sure no damage occurred to our wood floors. Excellent buying experience overall.

For the most part I am satisfied with my file cabinets. The color matches my other furniture very well. One cabinet came with a broken drawer. Luckily I am skilled in woodworking and was able to fix the drawer myself.

It would have been very difficult for me to return it.

So fresh out of the box, the item was damaged in 2 places. Both were relatively minor but quite obvious due to the fact that the damage was to the front drawer. The assembly of the product (it came pre-assembled) was somewhat shoddy as the top drawer was all off.

I was disappointed that I spent that much money and they couldn’t even guarantee that it would come perfectly out of the box. I didn’t have time or energy to spend requesting a replacement or refund so I glued on the bits that had fallen off and used a brown Sharpie to disguise the damage.

The result is acceptable but for the price, should really have not been necessary. I could have assembled the thing myself and feel I would have done a better job. It does look exactly like the picture and it is a beautiful piece but only because I was able to make the repairs necessary.

They are not pure white, I didn’t realize they were slightly cream and when up against pure white you can see the difference. but not a deal-breaker. They are a little flimsy and lightweight but might hold up better when they have things in them.

They were easy to put together and they all arrived in great shape. They are a little less boring than a normal file cabinet because of the style on the drawer front and the handles. More residential grade than office-grade material, but it worked for my budget.

Easily installed in my office underneath a desk. I have two, one on each side. The drawers are not as deep as a “normal” file cabinet, but they do hold quite a few files. The drawers also do not pull all the way out, so reaching files in the back can be a challenge.

As it is holding items I need close by, but not daily access to, it is sufficient for me. I like that I can attach items to the exterior with magnets as well. The wheels make it very easy to slide it around when necessary.

The file cabinet looks nice and it is easy to assemble. However, there were no keys to the cabinet. I could not secure the cabinet or put sensitive documents, so it defeated the purpose. I would like to have the keys shipped over so I can file confidential documents.

didn’t realize there was so much to put together but instructions were easy to understand. Wanted a file cabinet In modern chrome but couldn’t find one. The large chrome handles pull it together with our Chrome and glass desk.

Sturdy. Matches my desk perfectly. Easy assembly. Finally got my area organized. Plenty of room on top for a printer, which was exactly my plan.

Simple and clean cabinet. Easy to assemble. Cant push weight in front, itll tilt forward. Overall good product.
