20 Best 20 Gallon Aquarium Stand (2022 Updated)

Initially I thought that this stand would be too huge for my living room, because I live in a townhouse (my living room isn’t large but not too small either). It’s a great stand, love the color(gray).

It’s very sturdy(the box was soo heavy lol). I would consider buying this stand even if you don’t have an aquarium because it can be used for various things. It also comes in ivory (I think). It has storage place as well.

I followed the instructions to the T. Assembled the stand on its side and then upside down as instructed. This caused the stand to be extremely wobbly. I could fit a quarter under one of the legs. Took it all apart and assembled it from bottom up.

Let the bolts stay loose until it’s all together. Then slowly cross-tighten the bolts from bottom up checking for wobble every time you tighten a bolt. If it wobbles after you tighten a certain bolt, loosen it up and tighten the bolt on the opposite end.

It can take some time to get it all tightened up without a wobble. It was a frustrating process. After I got it all done, I put my 20gal on top and one of the corners isn’t fully making contact with the stand.

Hopefully after filling it with water, the entire bottom frame of the tank will make solid contact with the stand. We shall see.

It’s an okay stand. The color is a nice deep almost black brown. Simple to put together, but a little finicky with the screw in bolts and we had to try a few times on some of them, before we could get the screws in place.

It does wobble a bit, as other reviewers said… I didn’t read the reviews until after I assembled it. It isn’t wobbling enough for me to worry at the moment with no kids and no other pets but someday that might be a problem, so I guess I’ll try anchoring it to the wall.

Maybe it would be nice if this stand came with a wall anchor, with a chain or bar long enough to fit a hang on back filter behind the tank.

I got this aquarium stand for a 20 gallon tall tank. I liked the look of it and the fact that it was the exact dimensions as the tank. Looked really sleek. However, I noticed quickly that it wasn’t near sturdy enough for a 20 gallon tank.

This stand says it holds up to 180lbs. A tank with just 20 gallons of water and nothing else is nearly 170lbs. Not counting HOB filters, heaters, gravel, decorations. I noticed my reef tank I had set up with 25lbs of rock, and 20lbs of sand seemed super unstable, even when just wiping off the front glass.

I would have to hold the tank steady with my other hand or it would wobble so bad the water would slosh out…. so I was very frustrated when I saw the weight limit of this stand. Would maybe work for a 10 gallon, but don’t trust this for a 20 gallon.

it works, but i feel its expensive for what it is. If your gonna charge 80-100 bucks maybe take the time to file off the burrs. It really seems poorly made for how much it costs. Id say if you can get one for 50ish it wold be a ok deal.

I bought it because I needed it and it works with the other like it i have. Tho i bought the rest used for under 20 a piece. IT says you can fit up to a 15 gallon on the 2nd shelf, but its pretty cramped with just a 10.

Mostly good – seems sturdy. I got two right metal corners, instead of a left and a right, which was a bummer.

Looks really nice with the tank, has deep shelves, great for storing my tank supplies, I think the product is great. My only gripe is the price really, I bought it for £86 which was the cheapest I could find it anywhere.

Considering that it’s really just a flat pack shelving unit at the end of the day, it’s kind of expensive for what it is. I probably could’ve found a different tank stand or just regular cupboard/shelves for quite a bit cheaper if I wasn’t so bothered about it matching the tank and fitting in my small space.

I am very pleased with the stand and I think it is beautiful. But I was very unhappy when it took me the better part of and hour and a half to get it put together because it didn’t come with any direction on how to assemble! It was like a guessing game the whole time.

Also it was not packaged well the box was delivered open and parts of the stand were poking out and scrapped up! I think the stand itself is beautiful and I really enjoy it but the company needs to add directions and package it better!.

Love it! Kind of expensive for what you get but it matches the tank perfectly, so I don’t regret the purchase. Delivery was fast, assembly easy, so no complaints, thanks!

Bought the Brooklyn 29 gallon stand online with home delivery in order to upgrade baby goldfish for another 6 months until they’re large enough to join their friends in the 150 gallon tank. I felt good about purchasing this stand because I already have the Brooklyn stand for 40 gallon breeder and 10 gallon tanks, but this time I was sorely disappointed.

I still think it’s a solid stand as I prefer metal stands over over any stand made from particle boards. This stand came fully packaged as if it has never been opened and returned, however there were gummy hand prints on most of the pieces.

It was very scratched and had two dents on one piece. One bolt absolutely would not thread properly. I discovered that the threads were really messed up, so I had to cut off the end and carefully sand it, so then it went into the stand smoothly.

Overall, it went together as expected with the usual efforts to be careful to align the top and sides carefully to ensure the joining pieces were level so as not to cause stress points on the tank. After putting it together, I realized that one side piece that joins the tip was bent ( not from me as I am not that strong), so I had to take it apart and turn it so that there would not be a stress point on the top.

I do love the stands, but am seriously disappointed in the manufacture of this one. Thankfully, I had the tools to fix the problems. I will spray paint it to cover the bad scratches. Petco should place better quality controls on the Brooklyn stands.

I do appreciate the price point, so thanks for that part. I would have rated it less except that the extra star is to honor the awesome staff at my Las Cruces, NM store.

This is a great tank stand. It seems custom-made for my new Zilla 40 gallon critter cage. There is absolutely no over-hanging – the two are a perfect match. I put it together myself and it was not hard to do.

I would recommend doing this with another person simply because the pieces need to be held up before you screw them in and that was a little tricky doing it by myself. Also if you have your own Allen wrench it will be probably longer than the one included and therefore easier to use.

I used the Allen wrench that was included and it was not bad at all. Not having a bottom shelf presented absolutely no problem for me. With a bottom-shelf probably it would just accumulate lots of clutter.

I am so happy with this purchase as it gives a streamlined look.

I was upgrading my aquatic turtles tank and bought this stand to hold their new 40 gallon tank. It was on sale for only $100 so I was okay with having to add on shelves. It should have been super easy to put together but was not.

The pre-drilled leveler holes were drilled on opposite ends of the side frames. One side we had to drill out the leveler screw holes one one of the side frames to be able to screw in the top shelf. Disappointed in the low quality of the product.

It looks nice now that we have it together, but we will see how long it lasts. We live quit a distance from petco so it was not an option for us to just return or exchange it.

Honestly, this deserves zero stars. I am experienced in putting things together, especially IKEA furniture, i am doing bunch of DIY projects around the house, but this stand is a joke. Out of the box, holes for the legs and top shelves did not align.

Should have put it in the box for a return right away. But i need a stand so i decided to try and put it together. The supplied tool is a joke, as you can only make a quarter of a turn, not even a half-turn, before you have to reposition or fetch it from the ground because it flew off into the air while you were trying to turn the nut with it.

I should have gotten my tools, but it’s so darn cold in the garage, that i decided to make do with a joke – wrench. Time comes (finally) for the brace supports. By this time, i can’t feel my hands because the wrench is so thin that it cuts into your palms every time you turn it.

Guess what, brace supports are about an inch too long to reach the corners of the top shelves. But, honestly, it doesn’t matter. Why? Because the stand has one leg on each end that is 2 inches shorter than the other, in fact, entire thing looks like it came out of the tornado.

It’s all bent, not measured properly when manufactured, useless, and totally unsecure to put a tank on. So now, since i have to move the tank today, i have to evacuate my fish from 20 to 10 gallon and hope they live.

This item is the worst product i purchased online in the last 10 years.

I bought this for a 20H tank and plan to add a 10-gallon on the bottom shelf as a quarantine/sick tank. The trick to assembling it is to follow the directions NOT to tighten the bolts all the way initially, set it where you need it, and then go around tightening all the points in turn little by little – maybe 3 iterations before really tightening them fully.

To do this, use a socket wrench rather than the tiny little wrench supplied! The stand has a really nice power-coated paint finish and is entirely sturdy enough for a small tank, but of course the narrow 12″ width of these little aquariums will mean that the whole thing (tank and stand) could be knocked over – by unruly kids, rambunctious dogs, or accidental adult movements.

That’s true even for seemingly more solid wood cabinet stands too. If you would really be worried about the tank sliding off the top (which has no retaining lip) my suggestion would be to use some black super-heavy-duty duct tape all the way around – I may do that myself.

I am a big fan of this aquarium stand. I wasn’t expecting much. Due to the low cost I thought I would get low quality. However, I was gladly proved wrong. The assembly is pretty simple and can be completed with only one person in less than an hour.

I do recommend not tightening the screws all the way until the end to prevent a wobble. The stand passes the test and looks beautiful!.

I never write reviews but I hate seeing the negative reviews from people who haven’t even tried it and have only put it together. After reading some of the conflicting reviews, I was very hesitant to buy as I have a 10 gallon but figured it’s a good price and can always return it.

I’m glad I brought it! I will admit the base is off putting as with first glance looks to be supported by those two beams, but after putting the stand together (which was surprisingly very easy, took 2 minutes!) and inspecting it, I was very impressed.

It’s very sturdy and doesn’t require reinforcement, in my opinion, like others have said. I was 100% confident that it would hold my 10 gallon aquarium and so I set it up. Safe to say I was right!! It holds it with absolutely no problem and doesn’t even wobble.

While I was filling the tank up, it didn’t move nor did I feel nervous that it would fall or spill. The way it’s made is very sturdy. Also is not just supported by two beams as it may seem. It’s been made, from what I see, so that the entire stand supports it if that makes sense.

The bottom shelf is also amazing for storing the fish products, very convenient. A good compact and amazing stand, cannot express enough how thoroughly impressed I am. Hate that some people put it together without even trying it or testing it’s durability and just judged incorrectly that it wouldn’t hold.

This is good sturdy material, I am 100% confident it’d hold my weight if I sat on it Lol. Just goes to show you that negative reviews aren’t always right!! Glad I didn’t listen. Also, a 20 gallon would fit just right too!! I will update if it ever fails!.

It needed to be assembled, a little difficult for one person to put together , but definitely worth it. I like the versatility of it being able to accommodate a 10 or a 20 gallon tank. Also, the fact that it has an open shelf and an opening at the very bottom where I placed artificial greenery with little white lights throughout.

Looks terrific. especially at night!.

Nice cabinet for a small, modern looking fish tank that I own. The tank fits nicely on top an the cabinet is sturdy and well balanced. I prefer hardwood cabinets and this is laminate. It’s good for my use and hopefully will last.

It is just what I needed. My fish tank is for 20 gallons. So far everything is good. Though it was a bit of a hassle to build it all together, it held steady. The edges are sharp so I would suggest getting corner safety guards if you have children or dogs.

But from there, everything was good.

I ended up more impressed with the product than I was expecting. The color is a little more greyish-brown than the pictures suggest (which, for me, was an improvement over expectations). The assembly directions are pretty easy to follow and it didn’t take me too long to put it together (and it feels very solid, so I’m not worried in the least about it holding up to the weight of an aquarium).

It’s compressed wood not solid. All of the holes don’t exactly line up. The instructions were a little confusing. After completing it had a little wobble because the bottom wood wasn’t exactly leveled.

We replaced an old cabinet and got this one to put our 30 gallon aquarium. We’ve had it for a while now and its still in very great condition. It has enough room to place the essentials for our fish tank.

I just bought this stand. Received a nice 20% discount to buy online and pick up 35 minutes away. ugh. I set it up and low and behold it’s not even close to level. We all know you can’t drop a 55 on her and let it bow underneath.

I ended up putting alien two sided clear tape and cardboard to make this level out so my tank wouldn’t crack. Sad that I had to rig this up to make it work. I would look elsewhere before purchasing this stand.

I have the same stand in the 40 breeder and it was level. This one. not even close. This is the most important thing when you buy a stand it was a fail.

Total trash. I ordered this item on sep. 1st and expected it in a week. I get a notification is coming in three days. Three days go by, nothing. Five days later I have to sign for this box that looks like its been chewed on.

Open it, no instructions, no bolts, and half the item missing. the box wasnt even labled. I made the mistake of asking for a replacement, an “error” occured and now I’ve been charged twice for it. This is my last time using walmart.

I’ll go to amazon for what I need like I should have done.

I’ve been searching for a sturdy and well-priced tank stand for my 55 gallon. I really wanted a wooden one but they were either sold out every website or so overpriced or even had terrible reviews. I gave in and purchased this one and I’ll admit I was nervous it wouldn’t do the job.

But, I was wrong. It’s super sturdy and totally trustworthy. The metal is strong and a very pretty design. The shipping was way shorter than expected/estimated and the stand was on sale! I highly recommend it and if you’re unsure, go for it.

It came with assembly instructions and a small wrench to put together which was simple and easy to follow. Super thrilled with my purchase!.

It’s definitely a good stand for the price, especially compared to other stands out there, this one is much cheaper. It can also hold 2 10-gallon tanks below the 55-gallon, or a 20-gallon, etc. which is nice.

One of the only major downsides to this stand is that there is no storage, and if you’ve ever had a working fish tank, you know how much stuff eventually accumulates. This thing is very sturdy though, and will definitely hold your tanks for maby years.

I have had the stand for about a week and it is truly holding the 55 gallon tank as expected. I bought a 29 gallon stand about five years ago and it is still standing strong. This one is sturdy and the price suits the style of the stand.

I used a better tool than what is provided to tighten the screws for the stand. It took less than 40 minutes to put together.

I’d been looking for some type of cabinet to fit into a small space that would also be large enough and strong enough to hold a 20 gallon aquarium (total weight over 200 lbs). Most furniture cabinets strong enough were over $200, so when this came up on petco.

com for only $35, and perfectly sized, how could I lose? It went together very easily. (I’m handy with this sort of thing and took the extra step to sand away the finish at the spots where the legs bolt to the upper and lower frames, then glued them with metal epoxy and clamped the joints for 20 minutes before bolting).

The result is a very study stand!. It comes with a little stamped steel wrench but I used a 1/4″ drive ratchet to tighten the nuts. Don’t over tighten if you do this because you can drive the locking nut into the metal surface as it’s a bit soft.

I also cut a piece of plywood I plan to stain and bolt to the bottom frame as a shelf for accessories, and that should add a bit more strength, too. Overall I’m very happy with this purchase and UPS took only 4 days to get it from MO to CA.

I love this stand! I kept shopping for something that was built to hold my 20 gallon 200 lb tank, that was not the standard black plastic looking one sold from the pet stores. This is the only nicer looking one I could ever find.

Even nice looking TV stands all seem to say max weight like 150 lbs. I am now so happy that I bought this one. It has cut out sections in the back that the tank cords can run through, and it is great to have the storage for my fish supplies.

It is very solid, and the wood look matches much of my other furniture. I love the washed wood look of it. It does not look cheap at all.

I wanted to love this but it was super frustrating because the holes weren’t drilled at the right spots on one side. It was an easy fix for my husband but then less than a month later the hardware broke.

It is beautiful in color and looks just like the picture.

Easy to assemble and designed well. Have had it for over a year and it’s held up well. Not your average build it furniture it is very substantial and water drops don’t seem to bother it.

First and foremost, the dimensions on this tank listed here are incorrect. The actual exterior (outside) tank measurements of a 20 gal “long” is 30 x 12. 5 x 12. 5. I just measured it precisely, So let’s clear that up straight away.

Secondly, this is probably the least amount that I’ve paid for this size tank pretty much ever, so take that into consideration as well as you read further. It held water! I filled it half way and left it sit for a week on newspaper checking for exterior moisture every day.

None to find after a week’s time. So that’s the good news. Now the reason for the 3 stars, I’d probably give it 3. 5 if there was such a thing, but not 4. Aesthetically, it is poorly made. There is silicon on the glass all over the place.

I’ll explain; when the 5 pieces of glass are put together no care was taken to make sure that the silicon was ONLY in the places needed to construct the “box”. Instead it is clear that it was basically just “slopped” in there, it’s even on the OUTSIDE of the glass in places, this means that in order to have a clear “nice looking” tank, you’ll need a razor blade and a few hours of your time BEFORE you use this tank in order to clean and cut away all of the “over spill” of silicon both inside and outside at the edges.

If you don’t, when you turn on your lights and sit back to enjoy your creation, you will see the excess silicone in your window (it glares against the lights and makes it look “dirty”), on the corners, edges, wherever you didn’t get rid if it.

So take this into consideration when purchasing. If you intend to do any kind of “Aquascaping”, or want this as any kind of “display” tank, I would recommend a different brand. If this is just a “breeder” or a kids tank or you don’t mind cleaning up after the rush job that the factory just slammed together, then for the price, these are great.

They do come with a warranty, so if you get a “leaker” just take it back and Petco will get you a new one.

Looked at all the negative reviews on petco website, but decided to purchase anyway. So, I wanted to leave my own review in hopes of helping other potential buyers. -Caulking is a bit of a mess, as many stated in reviews the caulk job is subpar to say the least.

I looked at 7-8 different tanks in the petco store before selecting the least offensive caulk job. -These tanks are not the same tanks being sold in “higher end aquatic stores, visited the local fish store after purchase to get some ideas on set up and check out what they sold, and to my surprise the Aqueon tanks in the fish store seemed to be of much higher quality, in that the caulking looked better, the frames seemed more rigid, and they even had somewhat of a cardboard box.

Seems Aqueon, like many other manufacturers build products based on the store their going to. ps a John Deer mower from Lowe’s Hardware isn’t a “real John deer mower”, and it seems Aqueon has taken this approach in building tanks.

-The size of this tank is awesome, I prefer longer tanks with lowers sides, just a personal preference but also beneficial in some of the fish I keep that like to move across the tank and not so much vertical swimming.

-It’s holding water this far, some had mentioned leaks, I am currently doing a “leak test” on concrete floor in basement so I don’t ruin hardwoods in the main living areas should it spring a leak. I’ll let the water remain for a couple more weeks before inspecting caulk seams and moving upstairs to the main living area.

-The price is very fair, as stated, I visited the local fish store and some other tanks of similar size were double to 5x’s greater in costs. -it’s hard to find a good fitting top, I plan to have one custom cut at the local hardware store to fit my needs.

-To sum it up, if your expecting a very high end tank for $100. 00, you need to rethink things. I will say, you are getting what you pay for with this tank. It’s a decent tank for $100. 00. As long as it continues to hold water and doesn’t spring a leak with my Endler’s, I’ll be happy.

I do wish the caulk jobs were done with a little more accuracy and care.

I ordered this for pick up in store. I picked up the tank before picking up kids from school while my 4 year old was with me. In 111 degree weather. Where am i getting with this?. well after finally getting home and getting to cool off for a bit i decided to clean the tank.

And thats when i noticed how horribly the silicone was done. but thats not the worst part. The worst part was scraping my fingers along SMALL SHARDS OF BROKEN GLASS because it looked just the same as all the silicone! With the tank in the sink I blasted with water.

Nope didn’t do the trick. I had to use damp paper towel and my fingers to make sure all shards were gone. Normally I would’ve returned but again we have 111 degree heat and with running kids around all day and petco not being exactly close to us I’m dealing with it.

I’m using it as a terrarium. I wouldn’t trust is as an aquarium because of how badly the silicone was done. I’m just utterly shocked that the store gave me a tank with broken glass. Should be a $5 tank because of quality.

Using for my 55 gal tank. Everything is good so far but with my tank being on the top of stand, it just feels that it is really top heavy and could easily tip over. Stand was so easy to put together though.

Only like four quick snap ins and some leg boots which took literally a couple of minutes to do.

Sturdy and nice. Some of the reviews would have you believing that this stand is very wobbly. We haven’t had any problems, and it seems very sturdy. It fits our tank perfectly.
