20 Best 3 Ton Heat Pump (2022 Updated)

Quality Control lacking in final assembly process: they banged up the aluminum fins, two cage screws stripped and one missing, and no compressor blanket which Goodman says they put on all these compressors nowadays.

The shipping box was picture-perfect, so these things happened prior to final packaging. This unit sounds very healthy, but the compressor is LOUD. Paired with new CAPT3743C6 coil and new 7/8 / 3/8 x 16′ line set.

Pulled coil/lineset deep-vac (150 micron) which held steady at 224 with 82 degree indoor temp and 1600 CFM running for 20 minutes. Broke vacuum with precharged R410A and fired that mother up. After 20 minutes (at 1600 CFM) TXV working perfectly, observed 8.

3 degree SC and 8. 2 to 8. 4 SH (that’s the TXV). RECOMMENDATIONS: STOP putting the liquid line filter/dryer inside the cage. I prefer to put it indoors. START putting a 16 Cubic Inch suction line filter dryer in the cage just before the compressor – Condenser Engineers should protect their condenser, and the suction line is where they can best do that.

OK we moved bought this house 4 years back in September (will be 5 this upcoming September) and had a home warranty which we maintained. 2 years in the AC went out in August. I got the Home Warranty company to finally agree to replace it with the help of the AC company they sent out to service it the second time.

I chose this one after doing a good bit of research and they agreed. It replaced a 2. 5 ton unit and I chose this one because I knew from my research they did a quality bottom end (IE quality of parts) for reliability and longevity on these.

It has 2 warranties on it and is made by (Goodman Manufacturing in Houston, Texas makes all Goodman, Daikin, Amana, and Franklin branded air conditioners. Did you pay extra for the Amana name? It’s a Goodman!).

We were finally able to get our unit installed and it’s working great so far with all this heatwave we’re experiencing. The only issues we had was ordering the wrong unit and having to send it book took quite a bit of time to get situated, and finding an hvac installer qualified that had an opening.

My guy only took a couple of hours to get it hooked up and running and we were back in the cool. Alpine did a great job in helping me get the item returned, but i would like to recommend you advise residential customers on the front end that they definitely will need a lift gate delivery so they arent later hit with a lift gate charge.

Also many installers in my area hadnt heard of ALPINE as a distributor so that made it a little more difficult to find an installer that wasnt going to charge me an outrageous amount for an install.

The unit is larger in size that the older models of the same type and tonnage. Which makes it a little tricky if you have limited space to fit the unit. The unit doesn’t come with the duct attachments.

You have to buy those separately. Overall, once you have it installed, the unit works great. Well worth the price as compared to the “rip off artists” who would sell you a comparable unit and install it.

If you can find an installer that’s willing to put the unit in, you’ll save a couple of thousand on the whole thing. Just make sure that if it’s a new installation or a replacement, that you get someone who knows what they’re doing.

We all have something to sell, cars, parts, or Air conditioning system. We who do the selling have to understand there are 100’s of companies who sell the same products and just as good! So all we really have is customer service and how well we do it.

Did we make the customer happy? Did we give them what they want? Did we talk to them like they were important? Did we do what we said we would do? DID WE FOLLOW UP? These are just some of the ways to make your business better than the competition.

I don’t know if Ingram Air Conditioning is a young company or just have alot of new people, but I do know that they have a National sales manager name Kevin. Kevin went above his call of duty to help out his office to provide that “Customer Service ” that is needed.

With all the problems that occurred, Kevin took the bull by the horns and tried to make things right. For this I am willing to give Ingrams 3 stars. Thanks Kevin for your help and I hope you pass this memo on to you office.

Alpine is amazing. I literally received my furnace less than 24 hours after I ordered it. R&L shipping was outstanding and with the tale gate service he helped me get it to my back yard too. Furnace was intact and packaged well.

The ONLY thing I can say is for some reason the unit got shipped with the gas valve OFF inside the unit. Took me awhile to figure out why it didn’t light. But anyway it was an easy fix. The furnace then fired right up and it was amazingly quite!! The furnace case seems thick and has a nice finish.

Did not seem cheap. Very happy glad I went with a Goodman and Alpine as well. I also took advantage of the Affirm finance option that too was painless. Don’t hesitate to buy for Alpine.

For the price this may be the best deal on the web. Sturdy construction and much quieter than my old unit, installed in the beginning of December in Tennessee. Still waiting on my first bill. I am using a vision pro thermostat to lockout heat pump and gas furnace at preset temperatures 25 heat pump and preventing gas furnace from cycling on unnecessarily if above 40.

This is a dual fuel unit, Two stage gas valve. The furnace comes on in first stage and remains for 10 mins before going to 2 stage if desired thermostat setting not reached. So far I am really satisfied.

If I come across any problems when summer arrives ,I will edit review. My defrost timer is set for 90 mins.

After reading the glowing reviews I decided to go for the Mr Cool universal. I was able to pretty much install it myself with the precharged lineset. I turned it on with the house at 75 degrees and 75% humidity inside ( 82 outside) (hasn’t had hvac on for years) and put it through a tougher test of bringing our 2000 sq ft house down to 64 degrees, which it got there after 9 hours.

Our humidity is down to 58% and hopefully as we dry out the house it will get easier to keep it at temp. So I’m very happy with my initial experience; hopefully things continue to go this way. I’m absolutely amazed how quiet both the air handler and the condenser are.

There may be better units out there but at the Mr cool price point/performance and DIY capable it seems hard to beat. 1 year later. still working great. I take the heat/AC for granted at this point which is the way it should be.

Whether it’s a 95 degree day as it is now, or down in the teens as we got this last winter (no heat strips!!) the Midea/Mr Cool unit is doing great at maintaining temp at low wattage.

My best friend, a 73yr old woman, contracted with a local HVAC company C&S Residential Heating and Cooling to install a new Mr Cool Universal 3 Ton Heat Pump. After paying him $7000. 00, 2 months later the unit stopped heating.

The contractor kept making excuse for not returning to repair the unit. Finally she gave up and called Mr Cool directly. They expected her to climb in the attic and troubleshoot the unit. They refused to send a tech to determine the problem.

It has been several weeks now, she has been without heat for a month and a half (during the height of winter Jan and Feb). They say they are sending her a new condenser unit but so far nothing. She is going to have to pay another contractor $2800 to install the condenser and repair all of the mistakes made by the first contractor.

Mr Cool treats their customers poorly, doesnt stand behind its equipment or the work of their own authorized contractors. Do not purchase a Mr Cool system. Buy an American Made System instead of this Made in China Junk.

So far so good. We had it installed about a month ago and it is doing an excellent job. I just wish the control screen would light up when using it, but other than that, very happy with it.

Two heads came with broken lines. I will give credit that they are allegedly sending replacements; but two defective units?

Great products from great people! I have been a Ingrams water and air customer for over 15 years and have bought multiple systems from them. Their prices are unbeatable as is their service. Paul R. went out of his way to make the purchase easy.

This unit replaced a 1st generation mr cool. This one is much more robust and quieter. Very simple to install.

Not only does this mini split system do a great job, it looks great too! Thanks Premium Home Source and MrCool for such an amazing product!!

1. It took two 12h days (for one guy) to install the air handler and the condenser (replaced old AC unit and electrical connections were already there) 2. The hardest part was to bring the air handler into the attic through the attic door (make sure you have enough clearance).

My attic access is 30×50 and it felt tight. Also, the unit is over 200lbs. Make sure you know what you are doing. 3. The line sets were the second hardest thing to install for one man installation. Make sure to measure twice and order one length up from what you need (hard to account for wide radisu turns and rigidness of the lineset) 4.

Download most recent installation manual from the manufacturers site (IWAE links to old manual, the manual that came with the equipment was old too). 5. The wire to thermostat needs 6 conductors (not 5 like the old manual says).

The unit works with ecobee, next, etc. 6. I got adjustable digital torque wrench – up to 26mm – but that wasn’t big enough. Ended up using groove joint pliers and tightened it to the max. 7. The fan speed on the airhandler can be change on the control board.

Default is low speed which seemed more than enough for my installation.

I have installed 2 other split systems DIY with a tech to do refrigerant. The Mr. Cool universal with the pre-charged lineset makes for a quick and easy install with little to no tools and no refrigeration knowledge.

All you have to do is run power and thermostat wires, drain line, and install the lineset. Its pretty much plug and play. So if you have very basic electrical and plumbing skills you can install this Heat Pump by yourself.

The line set installs with crescent wrenches!! A conventional lineset requires a brazing torch, vacuum pump, refrigerant gauges, special thermometers, and scales to weigh in refrigerant. All those tools are replaced with 2 crescent wrenches!! The lineset also comes with insulation that has a tough skin so you don’t have to baby it through holes.

This also seems to give it some kink protection. Anyone who knows how to use a crescent wrench and knows how to read can install this lineset. I Never thought I’d enjoy listening to an air conditioner run.

It’s fun listening to the compressor and fans slowly come up to speed, instead of the old compressor slamming into action. The inverter makes both the fans and the compressor quiet compared to conventional condensing units.

The outside unit does stick out a little because of its height, but that’s okay because it looks high tech and futuristic. HVAC used to be the one area of home improvement I had to hire help. It’s about time HVAC technology caught up with the rest of the world.

We live and central MS. I ordered this unit from Ingram’s on a Monday and arrived the next Monday by freight. The driver unloaded it and placed it in my garage. I had a local HVAC installer put it in the next day.

He had never installed this type of Mr. Cool unit but was impressed with it’s performance and build. After installation we did some testing using the installer’s pro equipment. We heated the house from 68 deg.

F to 89. The air at the register got up to 97 deg. F during the heating cycle. We did NOT install any emergency heat strips. We then turned the thermostat down to 62 deg. The air at the register immediately plummeted down to 52 deg.

AMAZING!!! We used a Honeywell digital thermostat that had I on the old unit and it worked fine with this new unit. Over all, now 3 months in, I am very pleased.

First, I had a good experience with ordering through IWAE – Matthew was very helpful with my selection. My equipment arrived two days ago and I installed most of the first zone (24K) yesterday and finished off the electrical today, after picking up a couple parts.

Regarding function: The unit seems great after operating for the better part of the day. Very quiet and very effective. Regarding fit and finish: Looks pretty good except for some misaligned panels on the front of the air handler.

Will look into whether it is fixable or not. A bit annoying to look at. Regarding installation: I ran the lineset through the crawlspace and up an interior wall to best accommodate the center of my garage space.

Routing the lineset was somewhat challenging, due to the stiffness, especially as it made the turn of the wall. Franklly, this was easier than I expected. Hanging the air handler was a breeze and took a couple minutes.

With the help of a dolly, I was able to easily set the condenser unit on the pad that I had leveled about a foot from my house – easy. The challenges/frustration: 1) One end of the lineset had different lengths of greater than a foot.

This made partnering up very challenging and required that the lines be decently separated from each other, tearing the insulation away and requiring a much greater installation space. Due to this, I had to make a decision to either have an ugly outside setup or create a new false wall inside to accommodate the cluster – I chose the latter.

It is very ugly, but I will conceal it after I buy some more insulation sleeves. This will likely be a huge factor in deciding whether to buy one of these units again. Not a good situation. 2) The electrical knockouts are only setup to accommodate a 1/2-inch whip.

With a Max Breaker rating of 45a, I chose to use a 40a breaker, which, by code, requires 8-g wire, which functions well with a 3/4-in whip. Not the end of the world, but, if you choose to follow electrical code and/or get inspections, prepare for a frustrating time of trying to expand the knockout hole if you don’t have a stepping bit handy ($50).

Another questionable DIY moment. 3) I called IAWE and MRCOOL for support yesterday to help me with a couple points of confusion. End of day 2 and still no call back. Sure, I figured it out, but if not, I’d be adding a couple more days to my “simple” DIY job.

Installation from start to finish is simple and straight forward. My hardest part was determining exactly where I wanted to install the unit. I opted to use the full 25 feet of line set as to not have it bundled which is ok to do but I’m a stickler for a smooth finish look.

I would also suggest making a punch list before you begin. I choose to pour a slab for the outside unit instead of the bracket mount or other options for my install. It truly is DIY if you have knowledge doing any electrical safely and by code.

My installation took a little longer than Mr Cool’s video (recommend) did but only because I ran in to a triple wall stud drilling my through wall hole for the line set. Again, it’s straight forward and the end results were a room staying at very cold temperature with little to almost no noise.

My ceilings fans have a higher hum than this unit. The outside is just as quiet, you have to see the fan turning to know it’s running. It’s only been running for a month but I feel confident it’ll last.

Also made a couple calls to them for clarification and they picked up the phone immediately and answered my question.

Premium Home Soource had the best picing on this – you get a lot of savings buying in a package rather than individually. Very quiet and energy efficient; I installed the unit during the last 2 weeks of my billing cycle and it reduced my bill by over 30 dollars for April; Mays bill is currently at 18 dollars and is projected to be 36 dollars for the month.

It was very easy to install. The condenser weighs at 125 lbs. according FEDEX. I watched a few YouTube videos on others who had installed a Mr. Cool to get an idea of what to expect. I’m a licensed electrician so that was no problem for me.

If you can operate a drill with a hole saw and know how to use a couple of wrenches to connect the line-set, then you can do this install yourself. If you don’t know anything about electrical you may want to hire that done.

I am very happy with the unit. The way it has reduced my electric bill, I think I will make my money back on the cost of the Mr. Cool in 3 years easy. If your home or trailer isn’t well insulated, you may not save as much as I am but I keep mine set at 70 and use the follow me function to use the remote as a thermostat and it keeps my 12′ x 60′ trailer more than comfortable.

I could say so much more but I don’t want to make this too long!.

Like some of my furnace reviews, It is important for people to know that Goodman is a quality assembled product just like the rest, but at exceptionally reasonable price. All manufacturers use the same parts GE, Emerson, White Rogers, Copland compressors inside their products.

Frankly, I am not aware of any that utilize their own proprietary components other than the cabinet frame, heat exchanger, and coils. All of which are non-moving and without circuitry to fail. Moisture and incorrect pressures are the only enemy to those components.

Goodman (like the competiton) details the design and install parameters as well as the operating conditions of their equipment. So long as you install inside these guidlines you should enjoy a long lasting dependable unit.

I’ve been installing goodman for 20 years now, and have never had a warranty claim.

The unit is exactly what I needed. This particular unit is cooling only, not a heat pump. After looking for some time for units, Lennox, Carrier, Rheem etc. , I found Goodman. After looking at the top 10 units for 2020.

these guys came in at number three. It has a 10 year warranty, which is better than some of their competition. It has a line dryer that some of the other units do not offer. Looks nice and well built.

Had the unit installed on Nov 9, 2020 and have used it several times before cold weather. Unit runs extremely quiet. So far I am very happy with the unit and would say it is worth anyone looking for a A/C unit, you should at least consider looking at one before making a purchase.

The side grills on this unit are very flexible. You can push the grill into the coil with just your thumb and the punched louvers have sharp edges on the inside. With the first unit I received the box looked fine but when I unboxed it I discovered the grill louvers had cut into the coil enough to create a leak.

The base of the unit was full of refrigerant oil and my leak detector went off where the coil was damaged. Alpine’s position initially was it was on me to file a claim with the freight company (R&L) as I signed for it with no damage indicated.

After some negotiation, however, they agreed to do the right thing and replace the unit at their expense. Still, it wasn’t fun to repackage the damaged unit and wait over a week for the replacement. Goodman really should spend an extra few dollars for four pieces of 1 inch styrofoam board between the inside of the cardboard container and the unit or upgrade to stronger grills.

When freight guys move around a 200 pound item they’re likely to sometimes just grab it by the sides and gorilla it around rather than use a pallet jack or fork lift. The replacement unit, which I unboxed still in the truck, had only very minor coil damage from the grill and no oil in the bottom.

It works great but I had to work to stop some nasty sheet metal buzzing with the top fan assembly. Once that was fixed it’s fairly quiet for an entry level unit and the cooling performance is great. It’s also pulling several amps less current than expected which means it will be cheaper to run.

This unit has a genuine Copeland US made scroll compressor as advertised. The components are high quality except for the steel cabinet. Beware, however, this unit has neither a high pressure cut off or a low pressure cut off.

So if the unit is run with little or no refrigerant due to an unknown leak the compressor will self destruct in just a few minutes.

I installed a Rheam condenser a year prior and the compressor went. Yes. I didn’t even make a full year on it. Rheam wouldn’t cover the warranty because I want a “Rheam licensed installer”, yet I hold an education and background in HVAC and was able to prove it was a faulty compressor.

So I decided to take a small gamble and try out the Goodman. I’m pretty impressed with the quality an way this condenser is built. It’s actually the same size and seer rating, yet so much quieter! I’m considering replacing my handler with a forced air furnace from Goodman now!.

Goodman products are always a good value, BUT, get a licensed, qualified contractor to install all products. These are not do it yourself projects. A contractor has the right tools and instruments to install properly.

And if it’s not installed by a professional, the warranty is void.

Our old unit went out so by the time we pay to get it fixed we were better off buying a new one. My nephew works for Ingrams Water & Air Equipment in Hickory, KY. He told us the units they sell so my husband went their.

Glad he went!!! It is awesome!!! Every time someone comes to our house, they say “it’s too hot” or “it’s too cold”!!! Highly recommend this unit!!! The staff where we bought it from is awesome and so was the person who installed it!!!.

The unit was delivered in great shape and we approved. We took off the old unit and put the Ingrams unit on. It hooked up great and worked the first time we tried it, both heat and cold.

My prior purchase from Ingram’s was met with difficulty. This purchase was smooth. Very pleased

I ordered an outdoor condenser and the order came with FedEx in about 5 work days, as expected. Everything on time, no tax, shipping included. The customer service was great by email. They responded within minutes earlier today, regarding my questions related to warranty.

Talking about that, the only warranty you get is straight from the manufacturer. I think the company can do a better job at displaying how much warranty each brand offers. This can make the difference which product people would buy.

Took 3 weeks to ship 1 condenser unit. Rheem. is a good quality product. My problem was how long it took to get my equipment from Houston. I live 6 hrs from Houston & this unit somehow took all of 3 weeks to get to West Texas.

No reason it should of took this long to deliver in the same state only hours away. My advice to future customers place your orders with an agent so it’s personal and detailed. My mistake I ordered online with no agent & no one had a clue where my order was over a week had passed.

Please follow your orders through Agent or Online should get the same attention.

I expected no problems. But when I needed the thing to work, twice it started leaking freon less than one year in service. The dealer/RUUD say that’s too bad.One blamed it on the installer.
