18 Best 30 Cal Muzzle Brake (2022 Updated)

These brake shoes were the direct factory replacement part, so they should work just fine. I can’t understand comments from others that these didn’t fit — if they ordered the correct replacement part number, then of course they will fit.

If they ordered the wrong part, then of course they didn’t fit. I will say that Shimano doesn’t make it easy to figure out the correct part number, and that there are confusingly similar brake assembly model numbers.

These were easily installed, easily adjusted, and work just fine. No squeal, chatter, etc. Since the original shoes lasted 20+ years (much of it in the Florida heat and humidity), I expect these will do the same.

Uncle gave me a trek 820 from 1996 with these same pads on cantilever brakes. He used the bike inside but the pads are rubber so they harden overtime. Watch a video on adjusting brake pad placement and levers and there will be no squeaking.

I ride the bike downhill 40+mph every morning and am not worried about stopping.

Happy to find these pads as exact replacements for project to replace all rubber components on an old, lightly used Trek bicycle for granddaughter. This ensures the pads work in harmony with the rest of the Shimano brake components.

My family and I just moved to our first home that has weather cold enough for snow. After just a couple weeks of winter weather and wind, the brakes on our SUV started squeaking. It echoed in the garage and was grating to listen to.

Once we applied the Disk Brake Quiet, it did exactly what we hoped it would and stopped the squeaking noise when pulling out of the garage. It has been a couple of weeks since applying it and we have not needed to do another application yet, but if we do, there is plenty of product to do so.

Got this to work on my girlfriends car whose front brakes wouldn’t stop squeaking. Thought she needed new pads, but they were fine, so I applied this after cleaning the back of the pads + surface area, waited 10-15 minutes then put it all back together, rode around the block a few times and the noise was gone.

Asked her to update me if it comes back, but its been a few days and nothing so far. Will be using this any time I have to change brakes again and would def recommend its use.

Me and my husband have always taken very good care of our car, we always make sure to get the tuneups on time, and get the oil changes when it’s needed, and also getting brakes pads and all that stuff taken care of when needed as well.

But our car is now 9 years old, and sometimes we heard the brakes squeaking for what ever reason, so after using this CRC Disc Brake Quiet, it seems that it has been helping because me and my husband have both said that we have not been hearing any squeaking from the brakes since using it and since this is the only thing we have don’t different to our car we are thinking that it was because of the CRC Disc Quiet Brake.

So I’m my opinion this stuff has helped out, we always talk to the mechanics at the shop we take our car to if it’s ok to use different liquids for our car, so we felt ok about using this since we know our car has already had its tuneup and brakes checked.

I didn’t buy it for my brakes. I used it to pop out the transmission output shaft seal on my 02 Corolla. Worked flawlessly, though.

Works fine as a drum brake adjustment tool. The bends don’t seem to make that much of a difference than a small pry bar, though.

This tool fit perfectly! The bends offer a variety of angles to reach the sprocket. The metal is very strong. The width left a little wiggle room.

Overall, a decent brake – I suspect I will be happy with it. But. Seriously? “Insert a smaller Philips screw driver into one of the several holes aournd hte circumference of the cam. ” Saving perhaps $5 by not including a lever that could be used to adjust the bend radius? The holes in the cam are too shallow to use “a smaller Philips” and the diameter of the holes doesn’t match any of the screwdrivers I have – which is surprising given I have a lot of them.

Heaven is in the details and this one misses.

I bought this to bed up some 16ga steel, and it does a decent job. I had a lot of trouble trying to get the fingers to set flat on top of the steel, there isn’t enough adjustment. This is my bad, the description clearly states it is designed for 18ga and lower material.

The adjustment for the radius of the bend was more then enough so it wasn’t a big issue. I just ended up wasting a bunch of time messing with it. All that being said there is no issue strength wise bending the 16ga steel.

I can make all the small stuff on this brake. It’s like a small version of my big brake. I really prefer to use this one because of the ease of adjustments. It’s well designed and it’s light enough that it can be carried to job sites in the back of a small SUV.

Bought this brake caliper after using a next to useless Avid BB5 rear brake for a few years. The braking distance is considerably shorter than BB5s and there is no squeaking I was so used to. It looks like a well-made product.

I recommend it highly.

Replaced a screechy temperamental Hayes caliper with this and it’s made a huge difference for very little cost. Brakes are now quiter, smoother and have better progressive feel. Easier to adjust now too.

I have to say the welds on it are pretty badly done, like only unskilled mid-post pandemic welds would be. In the grand scheme of things, it is not likely to cause serious bodily harm if the welds fail, so neither here nor there.

The materials used in construction seem adequate. It is VERY well packaged in it’s own crate with no missing parts or hardware, which is always nice. I also modified it, like others have by adding a length of angle iron level with the moving surface.

It was a bit of a pain having to drill and tap the holes to add it, but totally worth it when you get done, and it eases the stress on the other parts, via the added support. With no adjustment for the thickness of steel, I stuck a foot wide piece of 18 gauge in it, clamped the jaw down, and went for it.

It easily put a 90 degree bend in it like it is supposed to. This is a tool I have needed for 30 years, so glad to finally have one even if it is a “budget” model. It does what it says it will do, and it works IMHO.

I will have to add some angled casters to one side, and a handle, like I saw on the one modified unit. I got done assembling and modifying it, and then had an oh crap moment about to to move this beast.

I put cardboard under one end, and put a dolley under the other side, tilted back, and drug it into the garage. A handle and a couple of casters would make a HUGE difference.

I get it, it’s cheap. It’s for home use, so my expectations were very low. But on assembly, two of the ten nuts were so worthless, they could probably not hold two pieces of paper together. The thread fitting is so poor, I thought they were different sizes, but no.

Plan on replacing some or all the bolts and nuts potentially. Aside from the nut issue, it seems very sturdy and solid, plenty for what I will use it for. Not my first HF product, and I accept this is the quality they offer for the very low price they list.

If it were one bad nut, I would dismiss it as an oddball defect, but with two the same, and the rest being generally loose fitting thread, I have to give it a three. If the bolts were good and I didn’t have to replace any, I would give a 5 star.

This brake has the ability to make a good bend but you cannot make it work when working alone. When you put a piece of stock in the throat and lock it in place with both handles the stock will move slightly, creating an uneven line of break.

So, you must lock one side down slightly, then like the other side down slightly, then go back and forth to try to get it straight. It was not possible for me to get a good straight cut. If two people work the break at the same time, one person could keep the stock lined up in the throat while the other person could lock the stock in place with both handles at the same time.

Or, if both handles were locked together with one handle, then it would be a one person job.

Needed to replace a brake lever that broke during shipping through BikeFlights from California to Colorado. Third time I’ve had bike stuff broken in shipping. Ugh. Needed a replacement brake stat, and Cambria had one ready and on sale.

Paul’s makes great retro stuff, but the company is so backed up on orders, you can’t get anything from them for months. Thanks Cambria for getting me a new brake lever in three days! As for the part, it’s aluminum and so it bends easily.

Looks good on my retro bike, but if you need a more hardy break for heavy wear and tear, you might find another type of brake component. Retro is cool. Not necessarily damage-free. That said, my Sram Red brake hoods ripped in a previous shipment.

Moral of the story: don’t ship your bike!.

Yes, it’s beautiful. It also works very, very well. Braking is responsive, no need for a white-knuckled grip on levers when you want to stop. Installation was probably the easiest ever for a canti brake, as the spring tension adjustment is so simple, just an allen key and an open-end wrench needed.

Likewise pad adjustment: put the pad in place, pull the lever slightly to depress the pad lightly against the rim, adjust pad position, tighten the bolt, done.

I’ve never understood why Paul’s was so highly revered in cycling community. I get it now. Saving up to get matching levers. As a retired machinist, I’m amazed at the workmanship and quality.

Good quality tool. Turned out not to be the disk rotor that was causing the issue but a serious grade tool none the less.

These seem like great brake shoes. The only problem I found was that I had to slightly file down the area where the automatic brake adjuster fits on each shoe. There was just not enough clearance to get the two ends to fit.

It seemed like the black paint was causing most of the clearance issue. Definitely not a deal breaker. I am using the original GM adjuster so maybe some aftermarket ones are a little smaller.

Don’t waste your time and money. Had to purchase two sets to get one functioning set of shoes. The rear right e-brake lever pin was not properly pressed in so the the lever did not seat fully and rendered it useless.

Took a hammer to it to see if it could be seated fully. It didn’t work and it mushroomed out the pin so I didn’t feel comfortable returning it and complaining. Bought another set and chucked the left side shoes.

Save yourself the frustration and don’t buy BrakeBest shoes/pads!.

WOW great kit. I was going to be cheap and try to peace this together from my local parts store. and make my own brackets. this kit was a direct bolt on every part worked great no problems. it probably would have taken me a few week back and forth to the parts store to find the correct parts (brgs, seals,nut kits rotors)and with the brackets included i think i saved money in the long run with this kit.

Put the front disc brakes on my solid axled 32 5 window coupe, fit was very nice. Everything went together great, everything fit as advertised.

On My Last Mongoose I had BBB Brakes with Un-threaded Posts. My New Mongoose needs Threaded Posts and I couldn’t find any from BBB so I bought these and They are Grrrrrrr8. ! Easy to Install using a Allen Wrench and They Do STOP the Forward Progress.

Make sure You use the Rear Brake FIRST or You May go Flying. ! I do all My Traveling with My Mongoose as much as 15 Miles a Day. I am 70 Years Young and I can”t Count on Drivers Stopping at Intersections where We have the Right-of-Way so I Need the Stopping Power of these Brakes.

They’re good. Not a whole lot of options when you have this style of breaks but this is what you want when you do. Good level of rubber hardness/softness

I got HED Belgium tubeless wheels and needed a lower profile brake pad. My old wheels use Mavic Open Pros which have massive sidewalls accepting huge pads I was running old school XTR pads but they are to tall for my new rims.

I noticed no drop off in braking power with these pads and they are quiet and look nice with my vintage XTR Cantilevers.

Purchased a proportioning valve for my 77 C10. Hard to find product but JEGS had it and it’s worked out great. Great warranties, too. Fast delivery.

Works great. Have had to reset my prop valves several time (including this new one). In case you’re wondering how to do it, check out this video I made on my old one before swapping it out.

The valve looks slick on my pick up truck and it was easy to install. The performance is better than expected.

My oem brakes were pretty much brand new but squealed like a bus. I decided to get these even though they were a lot of reviews against them. Overall the best brakes I’ve had on this car considering they were only the “street” model.

Next time I’ll try the “sport” but other than that I’m sticking with these.

Good brakes for the price and have some good performance to them. The first week i had them on, they tend to squeek but after that it was all good. The rear brakes came with hardware(pins and brackets).

Pads are working well at the moment. Freshly installed so I can’t fully assess under other conditions.

The product has the typical Formula brake issues – the caliper pistons are sticky (won’t retract) so you will have to clean and move the pistons until the seals are flexible enough to retract. Also, the organic pad that came with my order seem to be contaminated – there’s almost no braking power.

After these issues were resolved, my brakes worked great. But it took me a lot of effort to resolve.

Beautiful set of brakes from formula, I’m replacement my old avid elixir cr and moving from Dot oil to mineral oil.
