20 Best 3/4 Guitar For Beginners (2022 Updated)

Bought this for my granddaughter who is getting ready to take lessons at the beginning of 2021. I loved the fact that it came with accessories such as strap, pics, etc. Opened the box to look at it when it arrived and it looks like pretty good quality for a beginner.

Very pleased with this buying decision.

Good size for my small adult hands. Love the color. Sound is great with the nylon strings.

I have a nylon string guitalele that I love to play sitting on the couch relaxing with. I wanted something similar, except with steel strings. I ran across this little Yamaha on YouTube, and decided to give it a try.

It’s only about 2. 5 inches longer than my guitalele. I love the size of it. It sounds good for such a small guitar. It has a sweet musical tone. Intonation is great, very playable. Plugged in, it sounds very natural.

The gig bag that comes with it is pretty thin and doesn’t offer much protection. I purchased an SKB Baby Taylor/Martin LX case for it from MF. It is a perfect fit, and a very nice case. I’m loving it!.

I bought this guitar because I have chronic pain and am a small lady and found that even smaller acoustic guitars are too big and bulky and unplayable. I like to play high up on the neck so wanted a cutaway and occasionally perform so having an electro-acoustic version means it ticks all the boxes.

When play acoustically it does sound really tinny, there’s not getting away from that. It also tends to be unbalanced toward the neck end, so I need a strap to keep it in place. But it is much more playable for practice and I am almost managing to play bar chords again.

Not chance on a normal size guitar. It has a full fret board just smaller but not too small.

I bought this for my friend that wants to learn how to play the guitar. I chose this for him because it’s a nylon string so it wouldn’t hurt his fingers which I noticed that most beginners easily gets frustrated when the steel strings hurts their fingers and then stops learning how to play the guitar.

The guitar is well made and it looks like that it will last a long time of course with proper care. It’s very light weight and compact so it’s easy to maintain and store this guitar and also good for traveling.

I bought the Yamaha guitar for practicing difficult classical guitar passages. The 3/4 size makes these passages easier for my small hands. However, I was surprised by the ease of playing barred chords through the 10th fret and the sweet sound that stayed true through exercises in octave scales.

I would select this guitar for the first guitar for a child.

We have a full size acoustic guitar, it is too bulky for my preteen and teenager. The Yamaha CGS103 3/4 size is perfect for young learners, and the nylon strings are easy on the fingers. This guitar is well made, easy to play, and easy to tune.

My wife is no novice, but she also isn’t John Mayer. The problem I have is that when you’re looking for an “affordable” nylon string guitar, you’ll also run into labels like “for beginners” or “starter guitar”, and it kind of puts you into a strange place bacause what if you’re not an amateur? Is your only choice to drop $300 and up? No.

THIS guitar is that option. Fender is a trusted brand, and the quality and sound of this guitar is awesome. If you know what you’re doing, and you need a reliable instrument, this is where your search ends.

Love this guitar. small but ideal for a beginner to learn on. Very easy to handle and for smaller hands the neck is a perfect size for the finger placements. I was able to tune the guitar with the tuner that came with the guitar.

The guitar is very nice in appearance and the sound is quite good for it’s size.

I am very new to guitar playing, as is my son, so I took a chance on this smaller guitar for my child and I to learn guitar. I couldn’t be more comfortable and happy learning on it. I wanted to make sure we could learn and that we would like it.

The size is very comfortable for my petite child. I’m sure after some time, we will purchase a normal size guitar to continue our studies. Or at least I will so we can jam together. I bought online and my package arrived in 2 days in perfect condition.

My son was so excited to get this! he is 13 and new to guitar and this was his first instrument. He got it and then had his first lesson the same day. his music teacher just loved it as well. Its a beautiful guitar, perfect size for him and for her she indicated.

Now he just has to play it enough to get the strings “ready” as the instructor said, to hold the tuning they set. Would absolutely buy this brand again.

I really want to give the guitar five stars and I would if the wood was just a little thicker stock. Compared to the baby Taylor or the Martin Jr the pf2mh is noticeably thinner. I’ve had the guitar for quite a while now and I gave it the benefit of the doubt at first because it was new strings but the truth is compared to my other guitars after they’re broken in it does not stay in tune you’re going to have to tune at least one of the big strings before you play it every time you pick it up just about.

But it’s a beautiful little guitar lovely really and it plays wonderful it has a wonderful time and it’s a great starter. I got it because I know my niece is coming out to stay with us for an extended stay and I wanted her to have something to learn off of while she was here visiting it she’ll probably end up taking home with her.

For the money difference this is a very good bargain between the other choices out there I’m not sure how long live this guitar can be with a flat top that’s that thin if you don’t keep up with it and don’t let it dry out you probably be okay but if it starts cracking it it’s not going to be long before it starts buzzing.

Again on the positive side this is a wonderful way to hear the difference between a solid wood and hpl to my ear there is definitely adifference in this guitar sounds better than the other two I’ve mentioned in this write-up which I also own.

I give the ominous the better tone of the three and I think it’s because it’s the solid wood and it’s as thin as it is but it has convinced me to buy another one of these in the bigger size and I am currently looking at an art wood series Ibanez set up and looking much the same as this only it’s a maple top as I recall.

Professional classical violinist here and I’m PICKY when it comes to instruments. Very surprised at how much sound this 3/4 size guitar produces but understand the “trick” that makes it work. Ibanez simply “thinned” out the wood for the main body, which produces more sound but reduces the overall life of the instrument (also the reason it’s light).

Many a luthier has ruined old violins with this “reconditioning” technique and it has been recognized as something that only works short term so is no longer commonly practiced by reputable professionals for classical bowed instruments.

That being said, overall (for the price point), it is a solid instrument. It seems to go out of tune frequently but that may change as the strings “settle” down or if I replace the tuning mechs. Fret placement is not super accurate as even when tuned properly, certain chords are still slightly out of tune (annoying but not a “deal breaker” for the cost).

Makes me realize what a precision instrument the violin is in comparison as the lack of frets and fine tuners allow for very fine adjustments in pitch. Four stars is the best I can give for a rating but like I stated, I’m PICKY.

huge upgrade from those big box store kid guitars. really great finish. the pictures don’t do justice. nice sound and feels expensive. we also own a baby t for 3x the price and i would say this def competes.

however, didn’t want to invest that money yet as my kid too small. this one will probably get bumped around, it feels quality though. only issue is maybe we put lighter strings on it next time. no complaint though.

I have, like many folk, over a dozen guitars. Some acoustic, some pure electric and some acoustic /electric. This Yamaha, is one of the best purchases I have ever made, it firstly sounds great through my Roland Street Amp and BOSS delay and secondly is so very handy to take out on trips, particularly when space is at a premium.

The advantage of playing either with or without amplification is very important to me and overall this Guitar ticks ALL the boxes for me. The service from PMT was excellent too, what more can you ask ?.

Purchased this awesome little guitar for my 9 year old daughter. It fits her perfectly and it’s really easy for her to use and learn on. The sound is great when not plugged in and sounds even better when hooked up to her amp.

The built-in tuner is easy to use and it tunes up quick and stays in tune. The finish is amazing, the pictures don’t do it justice, it’s beautiful. Solid quality and really fun to play.

Cordoba C7 Spruce When I was in my teens, I had a classical-style guitar that was given to me. I used it as a daily player. Now as an adult still casually engaged in writing songs on guitar, I wanted the soft tone and bright feel of the classical guitar again.

After looking around online and reading tons of reviews, I decided on a Cordoba guitar. The C7 spruce is light, played perfectly out of the box and has a warmth and intimate feel that I cannot get from any of my other guitars.

Of course the nylon strings and wider neck contribute to this, but the superior craftsmanship of this instrument is evident in every way. If you are going to invest in this, I suggest you also go in for a Cordoba case which has a humidity function included.

Superior instrument. Highly recommend.

This was my upgrade from a Lucero 150se and what a difference it made. In terms of playability there’s no comparison, the Cordoba is superior in every way. Start with the tuners/nut which are perfectly smooth allowing you to make small adjustments even on steel strings.

Playing the Cordoba is simply easier and there were things I could not do well on the Lucero due to the thickness of the wood neck. Mind you I’m not talking about the nut width which is 50mm on both, I’m talking the actual thickness of the wood neck itself below the fret board.

The slimmer profile of the Cordoba meant reaching certain chords easier, changing chords faster, and giving my hands the ability to put pressure when needed. The factory strings on the Cordoba appear to be superior as well although I would still upgrade them if you can afford it; the steel strings on the Lucero wore out at about 85hrs.

No fret noise of any kind on the Cordoba (so long as you play the chord right) whereas on the Lucero I would get buzzing on frets 5 & 6 from both 5th and 4th strings with anything other than light strumming, even with perfect finger placement.

The sound of the Cordoba is more sharp, crisp, and clear than the Lucero. My only con is that the shallower body does create a slightly more “twangy” sound than I’m used to but its a negligible difference I quickly settled with in exchange for the other qualities.

You get what you pay for. This is a very solid guitar for the price. I would recommend nothing less for serious beginners.

Research taught me that traditionally-built Flamenco guitars (like the GK) are different than Classical guitars (Cordoba makes both). The Flamenco neck is angled with the headstock further back (closer to a steel string guitar) so that lower 12th fret action can be obtained.

Typical action for Flamenco guitars is E6th: 3mm, E1st: 2. 5mm. Out of the box mine was E6th: 4mm, E1st: 3mm (typical classical action). But with saddle adjustments I was able to obtain E1st: 2. 5mm, E1st: 2.

25mm with no fret buzz. I also adjusted the nut to achieve lower 1st fret action. Also, the Flamenco body is a bit shallower than a classic. And that produces a more dynamic, punchy tone that is great for Flamenco styles but also acoustic fingerstyle and jazz/lead guitar playing, which is what drew me to the GK (along the the ability to achieve lower action).

Finally, I want to mention the tone differences between the GK Studio (cypress back) and GK Studio Negra (rosewood back). The Studio has a dryer tone with a little more cutting midrange (the traditional Flamenco sound).

The Negra tone is warmer with more depth (bass), which I happened to prefer. So, far I am very happy with my GK Studio Negra. It’s hard for me to imagine that the GK Pro could sound/play any better than my guitar.

I had been looking for a travel guitar a while now but could never find one. This came up after trawling the Internet FROM PMT. I’d seen a few reviews on this so ordered it. It was delivered very quickly and well packaged.

I think for the money I was expecting more but with a gig bag included I was happy. After tuning it I played it and wow! For a 3/4 the acoustic resonance is fantastic. The frets are easy to place because this guitar has the small fingered user in mind.

My problem is I have fat fingers and the gaps between the strings are smaller in relation to a full size Dreadnought. Despite this, it takes some getting used to but it’s great playing it on the sofa.

My alteria motive is to introduce it to the wife to play also. Its a good beginner’s guitar. Best to start with a good guitar first, buy a cheap beginners guitar and you will become uninterested in playing.

For me it’s great and I can take put it on the parcel shelf in the car. Good sounding guitar, will never replace a full size Dreadnought but it’s better than most 3/4 guitar for the money.

I bought this on the 7th birthday of one of my twin girl. I was on a tight budget of around $100 and then I thought to speak to one of the representatives at SamAsh. After having a talk with him I was convinced to get a good guitar to start even though I have to stretch my budget.

Since my family is a newbie in musical instruments i am happy that my girl is interested in learning music. She is very happy and we are thinking to take her to few lessons. It’s well-made and offers a good tone.

I really like the comfortable size this guitar is for me. I had a 610mm / 48mm nut and also a 660mm / 52mm nut full size classical (a Yamaha G-231. This size is perfect. I love the scale length and the slightly smaller width of the nut.

The string spacing is excellent. The sound is getting better as it gets played and the strings stop stretching so much. The bass on the Savarez is not a boomy as D’Addario Pro Arte normal tension but there is a nice balance in the set.

I really love the action height the guitar is currently set. I probably will not change it. The finish is classy. The packaging was fine. I am amazed that guitars do not get damaged in the two box system.

Does not seem that strong overall, but it came here without damages. Day 1 – but I can hardly take the time to write this or step away from playing the Dolce. It does sound remarkably better than my past two classicals, a 1978 Giannini AWN-21 (it was likely still a 3/4 or 7/8), and full size classical 1980 Yamaha G-231.

Both of those were nicely made, but one was twangy and had poor intonation and the other was a little muffled. I feel as though this new one has excellent projection and volume for its size and the intonation of notes are clean sounding between frets and combined in chords.

Bottom line is I really like my Dolce purchase. Collin was my sales advisor and I got a nice President’s Day sale discount. The guitar arrived in 3 days after order.

The guitar generally looks ok. The sound is ok for a guitar this size. The finish is rough and the fret board is very rough. I mean the fret board edges are rough to the feel. The edges if the frets are almost sharp though I do not think they would cut you.

The string height is very high – almost not playable, but that can be fixed. All in all, if I had to do it again, I would spend a bit more and get something nice. It is bilked as a good beginner guitar.

If I were a beginner I probably wouldn’t continue playing! It is not a good instrument! Made in China? Stick to shoes China. Cordoba – major disappointment! Unfortunately, there was no instruments in music stores locally to test due to the COVID pandemic.

Supply is at near zero. Try your guitar out before you buy. I promise you will be disappointed if you do not!.

I should have read the ad more closely. I was looking for a thinner neck for a guitar student because she is an adult and has very small hands, so the thinner neck is great. The thinner body, however, compromises the sound quality.

Overall, the guitar is beautiful; the fret edges are smooth, the action and pick-up are decent.

I am reviewing this guitar only because a request for a review came my way. I was impressed that it had a decent truss rod and plays fine when tuned up. I am not crazy about the flat fret board or the width of the neck.

Of course I purchased this for a back up plan for my mother in law that likes nylon strings. I find they don’t hold tune well, nylon strings that is. I gave it 4 stars because for the price it is well deserving of 4 stars for what it is.

I did some work on her old Gibson she wanted nylon strings on and this guitar was in case the project did not go well. She will have both guitars. The old Gibson project worked out fine. I’ll stick to wire strings no nylon for me.

I bought this guitar in mint condition (it had a few cosmetic blemishes near the soundhole). Through the years it has also earned some scratches and chips here and there but soundwise it’s always been great.

Compared to similarly priced Yamaha nylons (NCXs/192s) and the Cordoba the C7, IMO the Ortega definitely projects the best between the brands, and it also just felt like a better guitar in my hands. ‘Sounding Better’ is objective and is something the buyer should decide.

It does have a slimmer neck than a standard classical which is certainly noticeable if you plan on switching between a crossover and a standard often, but that being said the neck is comfortable and wide enough for classical/fingerstyle playing on nylon strings.

I use this to play acoustic songs, I like it for the lower volume, and practice classical playing. Absolutely great if you’re looking for a cheap nylon string guitar. Sounds great, stays in tune, and plays well.

It’s not the prettiest. The neck and frets really show off how cheap it is. But it’s really hard to complain at the price point.

I re-learned how to play the guitar recently (after playing it when I was a kid) and this was a great guitar to get back into it. The sounds is clear, and the strings are good quality but not too harsh for learning.

Very affordable and good value for the price. Would recommend.

There is something to be said about buying quality. Kremona S51C-OP is a good quality 1/2 size guitar for those little hands that are just starting to learn the guitar. My little guy, 7, was used to practicing on my full size acoustic and truly loves a guitar that is now his size and his own.

Further, the strings on the Kremona, is much gentler on his little fingers than the steel strings on dad’s guitar. This keeps him engaged longer for more complete practice sessions. He’s learned to tune and do a few simply strum patterns and chords.

Now that we’ve got his interest- we’ll be enrolling him in classical guitar lessons. The Kremona is built well and stays in tune (we’ve played with a few other guitar during our research and found that for the money, build quality, and overall value- Kremona was head and shoulders above the rest).

I’m please with the sound carry and the tone of this mini instrument, I was pleasantly surprised. Again, good quality all the way around- just smaller. In going to the Kremona website, I’ve found that there is also a 3/4 size which my son will eventually transition to when he get bigger and we’ll hand down this unit to his little sister.

I will be purchasing the 3/4 Kremona in a couple years time- hands down the best value in this segment. If their “kids” guitars are made this well- one has to wonder about the build quality of their high end guitars.

Perhaps this is a beginning of a lifelong relationship.

Definitely one of the best classical guitars in this price range! I bought this guitar after reading over 100 reviews for classical guitars under half a grand. If you aren’t looking for exotic finishes and fancy hardware, this guitar is the one.

When it arrived I was weary that it felt a little light in the body, but besides that I was blown away its playability and quality of sound. The 52mm nut width is what I learned to play on and feels great giving enough room for my bigger fingers while producing great sound on every fret.

I have played this guitar over 30 times now and I am still impressed with how effortless it is to play. I find my self playing softer because the acoustics of this guitar are excellent and each note resonates beautifully all along the entire fretboard.

I can only imagine how a more expensive Kremona sounds. The soft case it came with is nice, but I prefer to use a hard case for all of my guitars. Honestly, I have no complaints because this guitar plays better than many of those that cost a lot more.

I am just a beginner, and a “senior” learner. I started trying to learn guitar as a pandemic project and found out that I really enjoy it. I am frustrated by the guitar I am using (a large dreadnaught).

I am left handed and there are not too many left handed guitars available. I thought I would enjoy a smaller guitar, and was excited to see this one on a visit to NYC. I knew the Taylor name and it is a beautiful little acoustic guitar.

But it seems too small after I got it home and really started trying to play it. My hope is that after I get a little more proficient I will be able to adjust to it.

Love my new Taylor GS Mini Mahogany Top acoustic. The sound from this guitar is incredible. It projects extremely well and has beautiful tone. Playability of this guitar in my opinion is easy. I’m not an expert by any means, but I love to play and learn more each time I pick it up.

Also, can’t say enough about how this guitar looks. The combination of the mahogany top and the color variations in the ebony fretboard are visually very nice. It also came with a custom Taylor travel case that will make hauling it around worry free.

Finally, the folks over at Sam Ash in Lyndhurst were terrific! Isaiah my salesman was super patient allowing me to try several guitars before deciding on the Taylor. When I played this guitar it sold me.

Purchased this for my daughter to learn on. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money because she tends to quit things quickly. It is a nice sounding beginner nylon string acoustic. It does come with cheap strings (as expected at this price) that go out of tune quickly, so I will need to replace those.

It also has a nice neck shape and size for a teenage girl with smaller hands.

I bought this for my 8 yo son, it’s a perfect fit for him, he can get his hand around the neck and press the strings down easily. It sounds like a $100ish nylon string guitar, no surprises there, but to an 8yo it’s really fun for them to hear the sounds they make.

They don’t care. It has a great looking matte finish too. I find it’s quite fun to play, it’s been ages since I’d played a nylon. I’m enjoying teaching him and can’t wait to rock out together.

Good enough for beginner or guitar restarter. Narrow neck is suits for people who are more familiar with folk or electric guitar, may uncomfortable for heavy classic guitar user. Sound is good, need to reset tuning every day but not every song.
