20 Best 3D Printer Stepper Motor (2022 Updated)

strong as heck. i paired the wires to test holding strength and its more than i could twist. excellent quality. as a note: one motor was wired backwards. the x/y pins were reversed and would not correct through flipping the axis in a grbl setting.

i would have where i could press X+ 10 times and 5 out of those 10 times the motor would go to X- so i did research and saw a post the socket needed to be flipped. so being that i have a directional socket i took breakout board wires plugged them into the socket of the motor plug and then flipped it so pins 1234 were now 4321 and boom machine working perfectly.

but i stand by these motors. they dont eat current they say 2. 1 amp and it runs just fine on a 1. 6 amp controller board and is still strong as can be. in addition these motors are much quieter than the stock motors that come on a 3018 Pro and im sure that if i had better drivers they would run silent.

was able to cut through plywood like a hot knife through butter where the original steppers would bind if moved at anything past 13cm per minute. this i ran at 30 cm per minute and no issues and it still had plenty of room to spare.

cant wait to do final feed and speed tests to see what it actually can do.

This stepper motor is bulky in order to promote sufficient cooling for the motor which is a good thing. Small light weight motors are prone to overheating if required to work continuously. The only problem is, this motor is noisy (in relation to the stepper motors in my 3D printer which are much higher quality and cost a lot more) so not recommended for use in a quiet environment.

My application only required intermittend operation so the noise is not a real problem. Also I am able to switch off the electronic controller output FET’s via software when the motor is not in use. this reduces power consumption and therefore heat generation and noise.

Lesson learnt is stepper motors require carefull selection for the required application. You need to consider heat, noise as well as power consumtion as well as everything else for a successful implementation.

This stepper motor is A STANDARD SIZE. This motor is QUIET if you use a good quality stepper driver like for example a Trinamic 2209 (Bigtreetech). Comes in a very sturdy box with all required information on a handy business card.

A well made, solid Stepper motor. The motor is working well, I don’t envisage having any problems with it.

I have used this motor to move a micrometer-driven linear stage at 1 nanometer per second and I actually get relatively smooth motion. If you move in one direction (to avoid backlash), you get extremely small angular steps.

Been playing with this for a while. Works well but gets very hot at 12v. This seems to be normal with stepping motors though. Stays cool using it at 5v.

I was happy with the quick shipping on this motor and happy with the build quality, seems to have a lot of torque.

Nicely presented product, only complaint is gear box a little noisy

Have used these motors previously on various projects and always found them reliable (apart from 1 unit which ‘stuck’ but was replaced). No reason to think these latest additions will not perform equally well! Prices do seem to have escalated somewhat since I first bought (from China) around 5 years ago!.

I recently placed my second order for another of these Steppers. Works great. I use it for winding inductors and use I Arduino with a Stepper driver to drive it. Although you can run it at 12 volts, I run it at 6 volts because it runs much cooler and even at 6 volts, the torque is still very strong.

Don’t forget to get the Stepper motor mount to hold the Stepper in place.

Can’t say enough about this board! Really like it. I have loaded Marlin 2. 0. 7. 2 along with BLTouch and a BTT smart runout (aka jam) sensor, and a working neopixel. Very happy with it. Enabled every Marlin feature I could think of and it has plenty of room to spare.

Paired it with my new BTT TFT35 E3 and it’s perfect! Go ahead get them both you won’t regret it.

Replaced dead board in Ender 3 V2. Board works without issue but be warned that it technically only has 256kb of memory. Lots of people online are compiling the 512kb firmware packages on these chips but that’s extremely dangerous and can cause lockups and other unexpected behavior.

The chip is a stm32f103rct6 which according to the manufactures datasheet has 256kb of memory. Big Tree Tech themselves provide firmware packages with 512kb so watch out.

Best money I’ve spent on any upgrade for my ender 3. The steppers are silent, the 32-bit board and expanded memory have allowed me to use so many more settings on my printer. It’s opened up my options for experimenting and refining the Marlin firmware, but also just worked great out of the box.

Along with upgrading the springs and getting an all metal extruder, this an essential upgrade in my mind. Definitely if you have an 8-bit board, it’s a must buy.

This is a great stepper for projects that need the extra power of a nema 32 but don’t have the space for it. The 3 that I received we actually nema 23, not the nema 24 that the title says it is. I actually had nema 24 servos on my mill but they were junk so I replaced with these steppers and didn’t need the adapters that I had made.

The shaft is 8mm and has an 8mm rear shaft that you can mount handles or dampers to. The mounting holes are good for 10-32, 10-24, or m5. The wires are about 18″ long and the motors come with a wiring diagram and dimensions.

I’m currently getting 200ipm rapids on my linear rail mill, but I could probably go faster.

Asian NEMA 23 425 oz/in (high torque) stepper motor with a 10mm shaft. No problems when driven with Gecko G540 or generic Toshiba TB6600 step control/driver while attached with rigid coupler to a ballscrew shaft or directly to a pinion gear.

This motor was inexpensive so I was a bit apprehensive. But my fears were unfounded. This is a beautiful piece of precision equipment. I am 100% satisfied and the motor is performing perfectly in my application.

The motor arrived on time, well packed. Everything about it was as expected… High quality… !

I think this is a great motor. It is sturdy and appears to be very well made. I think it is an excellent value for its price.

Have not done formal speed or torque measurements on this unit, but it performed to my expectations and requirements (spinning a LIDAR turret) with convenient shortened profile to fit in confined space, while allowing stardand NEMA-17 face on the mounting panel.

Ball bearings are of bad quality. You can hear them even when rotating the shaft by hand. I would not recomend this motor.

This is a perfect replacement for the 42-40 stepper motors in use on the Ender 3 3D printer series. The package I received contained only the motor, no gears or anything. The reason I bought it was because the dual extruder kit I bought requires replacement of the extruder gear that is mounted on the motor, and the stock gear is a press-fit gear, which I could not remove.

This motor comes with a D-shaft, so there is a flat face that the replacement gear’s grub screw would tighten against. The motor works great. If you want the pulley gear as shown in the picture, you’re either going to need to use your existing gear or buy one separately as it’s not included.

At least, it wasn’t with the box I received.

If you update anything that requires an adapter you’re going to need a new stepper motor. The ones that come now with Enders are all press fit. It is almost impossible to get this fitting off without destroying/ damaging the motor.

This is a great option at a good price.

My ender 3 pro had a failing stepper motor. It is great that I could quickly pop into Microcenter and pick up a new one. It’s actually better than the original. Although I had to buy a gear separately, it was somewhat adjustable as opposed to the one from the factory which is glued on.

I definitely will be coming back for my 3D printing needs in the future.

Be aware that these steppers do not have connectors on the wires. Two of the motors were very stiff when trying to turn the shaft by hand but when I connected them up they all run fine. Good value.
