18 Best 4 Person Board Games (2022 Updated)

My husband and I really enjoy playing the original version of Codenames with our friends, so we also bought this version designed to enhance the experience for just two players (or more,) not knowing what to expect.

To our delight, Codenames: Duet is even more fun! While the basic theme and method of play are similar to the original game, we like that the way to success is truly cooperative. Whether its just the two of us playing or if were playing the game with others, the goal of the teams is to identify agents (the good guys) and assassins (the bad guys) so the good guys can prevail.

The game is easy to set up and the rules are not complicated, so plays can start quickly. Included is also a way of playing (finding agents in different cities) that extends cooperative play but doesnt put stress or pressure on any one player like the game Scotland Yard tends to do.

Altogether, Codenames: Duet has been designed to provide an experience that encourages discussions of strategy and gameplay that are enjoyable for everyone and it doesnt take hours to play. We recommend this game for couples, families and groups of people who prefer cooperative play where every player is important and involved rather than cutthroat competitions where people are only in it for themselves and their fellow players are essentially the enemy.

With a Codenames: Duet, a relaxing and friendly time can be had by everyone. I pay full price for all of my Home Essentials Direct purchases and I rarely write 5 star reviews. Codenames: Duet truly deserves 5 stars!.

I’d played Codenames before, and really enjoyed it, and felt the need to add this version to my own collection. Word games have always been my favourite, and this being a game aimed at just two players definitely hit the spot.

The instructions are a touch more complex than for the original Codenames, but still easy enough to understand. Great selection of words, good quality cards and designs, and while the current Wordle craze is sweeping the world, this is a close second.

After playing the original codenames at a friends house, I was keen to get my own copy. Decided to give codenames Duet a go as I don’t have many games in the house that are fun with only 2 people. Codenames duet is definitely worth buying even if you already have the original.

Another bonus is that it’s very easy to make the extra cards up and use the codenames phone app to play the original version of the game with the duet pieces.

The worker placement genre is a crowded one, and many of us were introduced to the resource gather – spend resource – get worker cycle through the classic Agricola. Many (MANY) worker placement games later, you see the creaky folds and paths to victory through the classic game, and rarely do you have a desire to return to it.

Enter Caverna. Caverna is classic pub grub but served by a Michelin star chef. The game has much more depth, more options to victory, more opportunities to allow for additional workers (my analogy is falling apart) and it removes any random elements caused by the random job card system.

With job removal, the game introduces a more substantial caving mechanic, where the player is tasked with first digging out the necessary paths and rooms then furnishing those rooms-often generating the same job mechanics as were available in Agricola.

Also introduced is a expedition action, which allows for more ways to generate resources using an ever growing axe; but with it comes an ordering complication as those equipped must be played last in the round.

So, if you have warm fuzzy feelings of those early days of worker placement but feel like you have grown up since those days, Caverna is an absolute must.

Thanks Game King, this arrived in just over 24 hours while in lockdown – very impressed thank you. Caverna is an excellent game quite complex, great with 3-4 players. Takes a couple of goes to figure it out, there are many different strategies you can take.

My 12 and 13 year olds really like it. It has a lot of Agricola farming elements in it and expands on them in clever and enjoyable ways including mining and expeditions. Would recommend to players used to slightly more complex games and enjoy lots of parts! Thanks very much Eliot, Poppy and team.

Although I do love Agricola, I own it too, I like Caverna much better. I think this worker placement game by Uwe Rosenberg has a much more cleaned up and refined taste compared to his earlier games. I love the tiles in this game compared to the cards in Agricola because it is much more simple and everyone gets to choose from the same ones.

This does add up in set up time though which is a bit of a pain. I think this one plays great with 4 players and all the way down to solo. I like that the number of players diversifies or simplifies the player choices in game play.

Wouldn’t do this with bigger groups because it would take so long to sit through even though it plays up to 7! If you like Agricola but feel like the number of choices are too overwhelming you’ll love this more balanced structure.

My brother discovered Catan while in college and introduced it to the family. It quickly replaced the original board/cards games from our childhood, Monopoly, Sorry, Eucher, Uno, etc. 5 years later, it is without question, that everytime we are able to get the family together, we play Catan! The original game has three scenarios, I believe, which I have only recently discovered.

We have only ever played just the original probably unaware of the other scenarios, because the game play is always, always different. It is a game where you will most likely never play the same thing over and over (obviously the concept is played over and over, but the access to resources, ports, dice chances, and development cards make the game play different).

This last Christmas, I purchased the expansion Traders and Barbarians for $60. This expansion also has 3/4 different scenarios to play, including a two player card options. We have loveddd the added game play from this expansion.

There is a mobile app game option for all of Catan Universe. The mobile game is definitely not the same as playing the board option. There is colluding, cheating, game chat harassment, and disproportionate dice rolls.

I am on the Discord server for Catan Universe and the owners/operators do not care nor listen to the ongoing complaints from the users. I would give the mobile app a 2/5 but the board game is definitely 5/5!.

My family loves Settlers of Catan, and this extension pack allows us all to play together. I bought it along with the Catan 5th Edition 4 player game, and the extension matches the rest perfectly. I also bought the Catan Scenarios Helpers of Catan card pack, which makes the game a little more fun.

This game is so interesting and there are so many ways to win. It’s my favorite game to play with family and the kids just love playing it! It’s a great alternative to the other standard games I grew up with.

The game isn’t cheap, but it’s totally worth the investment because you’ll get years of fun for the whole family out of it. You will not be disappointed!.

Currently my favorite board game, getting to this point in my life was not easy though. I hate doing new things, but at first everything is new. So there was a time that I hated everything. When I started to try more things, I started to realize that I don’t hate everything.

I just hate the things I haven’t tried yet. So before I tried Catan, I absolutely hated it. It wasn’t until my sister forced me to play that I realized it was actually my favorite game ever. It took my sister a full day to read and understand the instructions.

When she tried to explain it to me, it was way too much knowledge to take in at once. She was talking for like 20 mins and I have a solid 2 mins of active listening in me before I start to zone out. So the only way I was going to learn this game was through trial and error and there was a whole lot of errors made in the beginning.

The first few times we played, we played it wrong. It wasn’t until my sister re-read the instructions and then had someone else peer review the instructions, that we started to get it. Even when we were playing the incorrect way, I still liked the game.

If you’re like me and hate trying new things, I’d suggest that you continue not trying new things, except for this one game.

The Lord of the Rings Monopoly is amazing! Its super cool how they made all the properties reflect the plot progression in the stories, starting in Bag End and going all the way to Mount Doom. It always entertaining the People and Events cards since they have cool references to the stories.

It also includes an optional special rule with the Ring of Power that enhances game play and specializes it even more to the Lord of the Rings story! I would 10/10 recommend it to any Monopoly and Lord of the Rings fan!!.

Combined Monopoly and LOTR. Great gift for my grandson whos an enthusiasts of both!

It’s a Must Have for Lord of the Rings Trilogy Fans and Monopoly enthusiasts.

My husband and I have watched all the episodes of bridgerton and are pretty clued up with the goings on and characters etc. As brits ourselves, we jumped at the chance to play this without the presence of our young children as some racy twists can come up, but not to the extent that only 17+ can only play.

The board itself is well made and the pieces are well recognisable from the show. Once you get used to the differences from your typical clue, the game itself runs smoothly with a cheeky eyebrow or two to keep it interesting! We love it! And will happily keep playing it and urge others to try it at least.

If your a fan of Bridgerton on Netflix and also liked the original clue game this is the game for you. My wife (not a big game player) love the series Bridgerton. So more out of curiosity she played this game and she loved it.

Let’s just say we have now played the game multiple times with friends also. The game keeps you intrigued and got me to start watching the series so I know what is going on. Great I tell you.

This is a very gentle tile drafting game. Players select land tiles to attach to their planets, and attempt to match their land theme, or form groups of land to attract animals to live there. With points for both objectives totalled to determine the winner.

The joy of this game is playing with the planets themselves. They are large, with magnetic plates to easily attach the land tiles. Our kids absolutely love rolling the planets round in their hands and watching them build from base blue to a riot of colourful lands.

While not a choice for hard core gamers, Planet does reward those people with a flair for planning, as managing the drafts to combine lands is the only way to ensure that you win the (well presented and often incredibly cute ) point scoring animals.

A gentle joyful game, especially with children aged 6-12.

This game is just fantastic. Reading the rules I was expecting a fun game but something on the simpler side. It is actually a real brain burner and you have to be thinking rounds ahead if you are going to edge out your opponents.

Although it is possible to fall prey to analysis paralysis we have always felt fully engaged – rememebering to give the correct planet back to each player when you are scouting out their land masses is the hardest bit! #224745.

As with other Blue Orange games the components are beautiful and tactile (the magnetic globes are super cool). It is super easy to learn and very quick to set up and play but there is a plenty of variation and tactics to give it replayability.

Suitable for both young kids and more serious gamers looking for somethink quick and lite.

I was drawn to this because it looked like and exciting way to learn about healing plants, which it definitely is! I was worried because my boys ages 9 & 6 are very competitive and in this game, you are to work together.

I thought they might not like it but they LOVE it! It’s so good to see them working together for once! It’s also something they can play together without an adult. This is by far all of our favorite game we have.

Purchased this as a family Christmas gift, so we have not tired it out yet, but it looks lovely! It has been on my wish list for a while, so I’m excited to finally try it out. I am studying herbalism and my 4.

5 yr old is always right along learning and mixing things up with me. I think this will be a fun game to add to our learning.

I bought this to for our homeschooling this and I am SO GLAD I did. My daughter wants to be a doctor of medicine and create natural remedies at home. It’s been a wonderful way to not only be introduced to herbs but a great way to spend to e as a family.

I recommend this for everybody and it just homeschooling families.

This game brought great joy to me and my family. With a K and 2nd grader, they were able to learn the rules quickly through the very understandable with the Dized tutorial app. The app tutorial is actually pretty cute and funny.

This game is competitive and you do go after the other characters sometimes, but everyone scores at some point. Kids can get down about it when they aren’t doing well, but usually one good shot will get them out of it.

Still, it can be frustrating, which is probably good because they have to be persistent to get through that and not bog down in one mistake. This is also great at teaching fine motor skills. The kids would practice on their own sometimes after we played, just messing around, which was fun for them also.

Everyone can play. tldr; great game for families, for kids, for learning fine motor skills, and fun!.

Wow! Such a fun game. My son loves penguins and board games. We got this for him for Christmas and played it immediately! Fun and fairly easy to learn. The rules are similar to tag. You take turns flicking your penguin around the school.

Setting up the school is really fun, the rooms are drawn well, the cardboard is very durable. The penguins and fish are a light wood. Colors are vibrant and pretty. I am very impressed. Some of the rules are odd, so we changed them slightly.

The “tagger” tries to catch everyone, which is done by bumping into them. You try to avoid the “tagger” while you are trying to “grab” your color fish. If you get tagged, you can still try to catch your fish but you don’t get a point.

We allow players to still get a point if they get all their fish during that round. The round is finished when the tagger bumps every player, or one player grabs all their fish. Everyone takes turns being the tagger.

Really quick and fun! My sons are 8 and 5, and both have fun! Younger children would probably have difficulty with navigating the rules and logistics of moving your penguin. This would be a cute gift!.

It is hard to find fun games for both of our children (ages 2 and 5) to play with as a group, and this one is a winner. Now with that said, I do have to modify the game slightly as the idea of extra turns is too advanced for our 2 year old, and at times even for our 5 year old.

I also count the points for them. Both children can play it and they love flicking the little penguins around trying to get their fish and each other. I enjoy it as well because I like to try the more advanced flicking techniques, and our 5 year old tries some of them as well! The boxes are made of thick cardboard which has held up well.

I was worried because I was playing with a 2 year old, and yes the 2 year old has pressed on the boxes with his hand on both the edges and the bottom, and has not even had major creases in the boxes which is amazing and unexpected, especially because we play it on the carpet (maybe not the best idea as I think about it for longevity, but so far not an issue).

Very creative, high ingenuity, actively engaging and great fun.

Our family of ten, ranging in age from 34 to 74 got a big hoot out of this game. We didn’t follow the specific instructions or attempt to keep any kind of score. After dinner, we went around the table and each person picked a card to read out loud.

Then everyone pointed to the person they thought to whom the question applied. And examples were given to support the claims. It’s great for family because we know each other so well.

We played who’s in the room and it was a blast. There were eight of us. It was hard to point our fingers at any particular person even though we’ve known everybody in the room for many many years, however the questions generated lots of fun talk about the topics and experiences in our lives.

A great evening.

This game is small enough to tuck away in a purse or bag and take it where a group of family or friends will be together. What better way than playing this great game while it is raining or keeping everyone indoors.

And we play it instead of being glued to the TV. It is good for all ages and doesn’t take i long, drawn out instructions. I love it.

It’s a great evolution of the beloved Monopoly game. I’ve only played the original game and not any of the previous special editions, but we love Stranger Things so decided to give it a try and it’s great! It’s the same Monopoly game we always played, but with all the awesome locations from the show, including everything from Season 4.

On top of it, the game comes with a fun twist of Vecna’s clock, which has to be spun based on how you roll the dice, sending the properties into the upside down and requiring you to buy them out to bring them back into play.

Makes it a lot more random and interesting. Good iteration on a classic!.

This game was the most fun I’ve had playing monopoly in so long. Coming fresh off of finishing the new season of stranger things, the attention to detail is extraordinary. The game pieces even are key parts of the series with a cool hue to them.

There’s a dice image that will give you the “upside down” and that created so much chaos for us playing in the best way. This game had so many dimensions and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

This monopoly has cool aspects from the show, but is centered around season four. The play pieces were average, would’ve liked to see better theming here- they’re boring. Eddie is no where to be seen on the board, but is referenced in the cards.

The spaces were themed from the show, and were well done. Would’ve prefered more theming from the earlier seasons as well, rather than just season four.

Always a bit of a gamble when buying a new game and although the written instructions were initially a little confusing once we started playing it soon made sense. The concept is actually quite simple but it’s the tactics involved that make it an interesting and exciting game.

It certainly kept my family entertained over the Christmas period, however if younger children are playing some help may be needed with the scoring at the end of each round.

This is an excellent game to introduce people to some basic concepts such as drafting and tile placement. It’s a very simple teach though you may have to help new players with counting their points at the end of each round.

The game components are very high quality. It’s a must-have in any collection!.

This is a strategy board game using a novel play format. I bought it primarily to play with the grandchildren but my wife and I enjoy playing it together too. The rules are comparatively simple and straightforward and for people who find it difficult to read rule books it is easy to explain as one starts playing stage by stage.

The quality of the pieces of the game is very good. Highly recommended.

I bought this to use with immediate family when we celebrate Christmas or New Years this year in the pandemic and what a fun idea a board game but on the festive season. I looked over cards and answers and yes ages 12 and up Will be able to answer questions but mainly for adults who have watched enough movies and seen more of the Christmas nostalgic things through the years.

We buy a new game every Christmas Eve this one was a huge hit. It’s super fun. my kids had a little bit harder time with it but we played with some adults and we had a blast a lot of fun and it will definitely be fun as my kids get older great purchase!.

Just played this with my family. I will say it’s hard to come up with answers quickly but it was a lot of fun. Definitely need to be older. Not for little kids.

I’ve played a knock off version of this game made out of cheap plastic tiles but this is the real thing with high quality pieces. Great game for beginners and experts as there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Great game, easy to pick up, it really makes you think, its not just a dice game or a word game its a real strategy game. We play board games and attend board games parties etc. would recommend it highly for both learners who want to try and play board more cerebral than Monopoly and Scrabble but also experienced gamers really love it too ! PS My partner and I have no connection with anyone who makes games but we do attend gaming nights and sessions.

Sorry is and forever will be one of my all time favorite board games. I get so competitive every time I play Sorry! It is just so much fun sliding and knocking other peoples pieces back to start. So this game can be a two to four player game.

The object of the game is to be the first person to get all of your pieces into your home. One of the most exciting parts of this game is that you have the opportunity to knock other peoples pieces back to the start spot and get ahead of them.

As a child my brothers, parents and I had so many fun exciting games of Sorry. My family and I currently own two versions of the board game. The newer version is a smaller board, which I am not very fond of.

We also have a version from about 13 years ago that has the regular size board, which is the one I prefer to use. This is one of my favorite and most exciting board games that my family and I play.

I remember this game from my school days when they first started doing in school detention. They gave us worksheets according to our grades, our teachers from each subject would turn them in to our gym teacher who was in charge of detention.

If we got done with the worksheets in time, we would play sorry. But once, I was the only one in detention so he got a female TA from the college and I was in for about a week that time, so he actually taught me how to play chess and I’m pretty good at it.

One of the days we did play sorry though and I totally whooped his butt. I am pretty sure that’s the only year I participated in sports when it came to PE and actually passed.

Not opened yet waiting for Christmas to come! 🙂 But my kids had a blast playing the playground version of it so I am so excited to see them that is their present from Santa!

I purchased the Connect 4 game online from the Entertainer. I brought it for kids birthday party as was advertised as a giant garden Connect 4. I only realised it was the normal one on the day of the birthday party which was very disappointing and felt let down.

I have purchased many toys for my kids from The Entertainer, however on this occasion was very let down by the whole experience.

I bought this for my wife as a stocking present as she played it as a child, so I thought it would be a nice surprise. On opening it on Christmas morning the look on her face was a picture, we played it most of that day and have used it several times since then.

The only problem was the discs were a lot more thinner than we remembered and they don’t have dimples on them also the frame was more flimsy, but all in all a great game all round.

The game was not covered in plastic. It was only taped with one small white tape on each side. This allowed us to open it too easily. Also, nothing inside was bagged up. So when we opened it, all the chess looking pieces were all over as if it was already opened.

Brought for Christmas not yet had feed back but looked like a descent gift

This is a perfect game for older children that have outgrown Candy Land. It teaches patience and how to be a good sport. Your pieces start out in the start circle. There are certain cards you draw that will let you come out.

The object is to get all your pieces around the board and to Home. However, if your opponent draws a SORRY card they can send you back to START. I have had a lot of fun with this game. I played it as a kid then my kids and grandchild plays it.

Highly recommended.

I’ve been buying this game every since my daughter’s were 5 and 10 and they are 25 and 30 today and we love it for the competition and they team up to try and beat me. Because I never seems to lose. An its a great game game for families to come together and have fun.

We all play the best 3 out 5 or the first one to 5 wins. If your reading this go buy this game. Especially the new version is even more fun. With the Ice and Fire. So much fun. Sorry need to send this game to me for free.

As many as I have bought. Because when I beat my daughter’s sometimes they get a fun mad and turn the game board over and quite a few times the board would tear so I would have to go buy another one.

20 plus years and it’s the best family fun game ever to my family. And we’ll never go without one. So hurry and send us the one we ordered its spring break.
