20 Best 40L Backpack For Travel (2022 Updated)

I just got back from a 2 month traveling and farming trip throughout a couple states in the US. I brought this pack on trains, planes and buses. I found the zip-able backpack straps extremely helpful when checking the bag in at the airport (this bag was too large to have as a carry on for my airline) and convenient when I wanted to just carry the bag as a duffel.

I really like the space of this backpack, but after traveling with it, I think I am leaning towards retuning it for a different Osprey “backpacking” backpack. This backpack is very luggage- like. After my experience, I find myself wanting more pockets and functions for storage and organization as opposed to the giant cavity that the main pack (40 L) opens up to- like a suitcase.

Overall, convent and spacious, but felt like luggage on my back as opposed to the type of traveling/ backpacking backpack I’m in search for now. Fabric and zippers feel very durable and I really liked the small clip that secures the daypack onto the large pack after you zip the small on.

Would recommend this to a friend, but it definitely depends on your intentions with the pack. I was able to pack 25 pounds.

I absolutely love this backpack! I bought it to backpack through Europe for two weeks. Through the trip I learned how to pack it better and found it to be much more roomier than what I originally thought.

For flying, I had no issues taking it as a carry on (as long as you remove the day pack, I had the big bag on my back, and the little one in front). I flew Delta, KLM, Air France, and British Airways.

British Airways was the only one that actually made me check the dimensions and they still let me through. Highly recommend this backpack for traveling! And I was actually surprised at how much I liked the day pack.

Not to big, not too small, perfect for day adventures through a city.

I was originally going to buy the Ozone Duplex but after reading some reviews, decided against it and tried this one instead. I’m glad I did because I have no complaints about this one. I’ve used this backpack for 2 trips now and absolutely love it.

I used it for a 2 night road trip as well as a 4 day getaway. It fits plenty of clothes for a short trip. I haven’t used it for anything longer but could see it working for 2 weeks- 1 month if you pack light, use a 5-4-3-2-1 method, and/ or packing cubes.

It was SUPER convenient as a carry-on. I connected the 2 packs together while we got through security so I could just wear it as backpack and then once at our gate, when it was close to boarding time, zipped the daypack off to stow under my seat.

I had packed things I wanted to have handy during the flight in the small bag (chap stick, passport, a book, snacks, water, etc) and everything else in the larger bag. I put the cover on over the straps of the big pack to make it nice and neat to put in the overhead bin.

It fit in the overhead bin perfectly, even in a small plane we were on. We were never questioned about the size of it. My husband has the “men’s version” of this pack and also loved it. We used the small day pack a lot while out sight-seeing.

It’s the perfect size to pack your water, a jacket, snacks, and/or small things you buy while out and about.

Got this pack as my only bag for 2 weeks across Europe–5 airplanes, 6 trains, a couple local buses, and miles of city walking–and it was exactly what I needed. I fit over a week’s worth of clothes plus a pair of shoes into it without even fully expanding the bag.

It then packed down using internal & external compression straps to fit into a variety of overhead compartments (planes, trains, buses). Even on smaller planes (major airlines like Icelandair, Alaska Airlines, Lufthansa) it could be comfortably stowed in any direction.

– Sturdy shoulder pads with load lifters, sternum strap, and waist belt help it feel decently comfortable even after an hour of carrying ~20 lbs of stuff – all the zippers feel durable and secure. YKK zippers on the main pocket, all others either hidden close to your back or tucked in to slow down potential thieves – the bag stands up on its own if packed well (tends to be front-heavy when fully expanded) Things I would change: – waist belt strap has pretty minimal padding, so the thin strap isn’t super comfortable – the bag’s expandability means excess fabric when you tighten all compression straps which makes both handles a bit saggy.

Not a huge problem, the handles just don’t feel as sturdy as some other travel bags – very few built-in compartments–it’s essentially 1 large front-loading compartment with an internal mesh zipper pocket, plus 1 slim laptop pocket.

You’ll probably need packing cubes My spouse carried my second choice, the Osprey Porter 46L (side by side with this bag in one of my photos). Honestly this 40L bag is a better deal, easier to fit in small spaces, and more sustainable materials.

Couldn’t be happier with it!.

All in all I am happy with the purchase. There are just a few things that I believe could be better. One problem is the sternum strap. They slide up and down pretty well and they buckle into place but even when buckled they easily come off and I unfortunately lost one side of it during my travels.

Another issue I have is there are already threads coming off the pack which just shows quality of stitching. All in all the pack was great but these improvements would take it from a good pack to a great pack.

My boyfriend and I travel a lot for quick 3-4 day weekend getaways, and this bag has proven to already be exactly what I’ve been looking for. It allows me to easily pack a lot without having to deal with checking a bag at the airport.

I just use this as my one carry-on option in the overhead compartment and saves us so much time! I also love how when packing, you can lay it flat almost like a suitcase, which helps make packing easier.

I just got back from 9 days in Thailand and needed a bag that would hold everything PLUS be carry-on approved. This bag held everything down tight and I had my laptop inside the computer compartment.

Loved all the extras you don’t notice until you get the bag. Security features are awesome and I wonder who thought of them because they rock. This bag is has super clean lines when everything is cinched down and made it super easy putting in overhead plane bins, bus bins, on ferry’s and carrying on my back when riding a moped.

The ability to hide the waist straps is really good. When traveling I saw so many other travelers with waist straps that just hang free. Why is this an issue? When stopping at bathrooms, for example, they put their bags on the floor and the straps are resting on really gross bathroom floors; in Thailand some of the toilets are just holes in the floor and a bucket of water to “flush.

” My bag straps where neatly tucked away. The top hard case is such an amazing feature and the hidden water bottle compartment. My girlfriend had a similar Northface bag and she keeps bugging me to buy her one of these.

Only thing I would change is something I read in another persons review; I’d change the orientation of the top hard safety compartment’s zipper. When the bag is laying flat, say on a bed, and the straps for the bag are on the bottom side, if one opens the hard case anything loose will fall out.

It’s not a big issue at all though. I also bought travel cubes and that made a huge difference. Twice I was stopped by TSA and they searched my bag; travel cubes made it SO easy to put everything back and get on my way! Long story short, do not hesitate to purchase this bag! I never leave reviews but felt this bag deserved it.

I am a minimalist and after some research in the 40L/carry on backpack category decided to try the landmark. The good news is that the bag does a good job on the main areas. The main compartment is big and deep, organization is minimal and other features are well built: For instance the straps can be hidden but without having the big, cover and zipper that other bags have.

Also, the bag does not have a real frame, which makes it lighter, but still holds together very well. However I ended up returning it. The safe compartment did not work for me. It’s too small and can not carry everything I need handy on a long trip.

Also, very annoyingly, it opens forwards, to the other side than the main zipper, so everytime you want to access it you need to finish packing, or at least close the main compartment if you don’t want things to fall.

To prevent some of that, the safe compartment has a net and a zipper that just makes it harder to use. Also while I like the design I found the front is crested and does not look as great as it could, in fact the pack looks funny if it’s not completely full.

I bought this bag for my trip to india and I wanted to keep both carryon and personal item on my back because I have a baby strapped on my front. The amount of stuff you can carry in this pack is just amazing.

The little pack will fit two full size nalgene water bottles on sides. It also has. proper laptop sleeve. This bag is super packable. Larger bag pack on the top , i kept like 4 sunglasses without cover.

They were well protected. reatbackpack for life.

I bought this pack for an upcoming one-year, multi country one season trip. I haven’t used if for travelling yet, but I did some practice packing and I could fit everything I want to bring for myself and my 4 years old.

I need to say that I have a minimalist approach to packing. It’s not the best quality or nicest looking – you get for you paid for.

I have the Osprey Porter Travel Pack but I have really bad shoulder problems and thought I should switch over to roller bag, but still wanted the capability of on the back as I do a lot of adventure travel too, but that this could also work for work travel as well (the dark purple adds flare without being over the top).

-SPACE: The other reviews are accurate, that because of the shoulder strap design it does decrease cargo space however, I still find that the 36L is plenty of space – I was able to pack for 2 weeks (though about 4-5 days worth of clothing), including some camping gear (a sleeping bag) and multiple coats and fit between this and the 20L daylight daypack backpack.

I still think its plenty spacious for most flying travel if you’re not doing trekking of course which it’s not designed for and if you pack smart. If you are not checking the bag you can totally stuff extra coats in the area where the backpack straps tuck into to expand cargo.

Plus I have shoulder problems so this helped me pack light anyways. -BACKPACK DESIGN: The backpack straps and suspension I am really actually impressed with for a pack that’s not primarily designed for back wear — it’s way more comfortable than the Osprey Porter shoulder straps because it has the suspension/ventilation part and the padding on the straps is better.

-DURABILITY: I’ve taken it so far on planes and boats and is great – I checked it once on a plane and it held up fine. The satellite wheeler is a little more flimsy than a 2 rod design but I feel confident in Osprey’s lifetime warranty if I were to ever have an issue.

Also this bag attracts lint and cat hair like CRAZY. It gets dirty very easily but mostly because things stick to it.

I did lots of research and chose this pack for the capacity and the fact that it is sized for women with smaller torsos and narrower shoulders than the average man. I like all of these things and the pack is very comfy in those regards.

We are going to Patagonia and also on an Antarctica cruise. I will have high quality heavy camera gear so I bought this pack so I can trek around Patagonia or go see penguins on the ice with all my gear.

However I am amazed and disappointed that the waist straps are so short, that they won’t reach if I have some warmer clothing layers or a parka on. I will need warm clothes where i am going. I can only do the waist strap up with summer clothes and a light jacket.

I am not skinny but not particularly fat either and rather petit. These straps were not a fluke as we checked others in the store. I reached out to Osprey with the “Almighty Warranty” (NOT) and they are not shipping to Canada at this time or doing warranty work (WHAT??) So it was on my time and my dime to try and cobble up some longer straps for a $200+ dollar back pack.

So unless you never plan to go where you need some layered clothes and a warm jacket, or are as skinny as a rake, beware of those waist straps. Very disappointed in this as the cost to make them a couple inches longer would be minimal or non existent and it wouldn’t affect the function of the pack at all if they were pulled tighter on a person.

I paid a premium for this back pack and it has a major fixable flaw in the design.

The first thing I noticed about this bag is that it is very lightweight. It has both wheels and backpack straps and meets most carry-on requirements for international travel. I bought this as a carry-on so I don’t have to lug a backpack in the airport, or up stairs in subway and train stations in Europe.

The zippers are solid (though are not lockable), the pack has cinch straps in all the places I wanted them, and if you don’t want to use the hip straps in backpack mode, you can clip them back so they cover the wheels and aren’t flapping at your sides.

Negatives: – I have had convertible backpack/ pullman packs before; this one is lighter but it has a more cumbersome conversion from pullman to backpack- it takes a minute longer to put the backpack straps on, and longer if you want to cover the wheels by clipping the hip straps back to the front of the pack.

– The other spot where it loses some functionality for me is the single bar pull handle. With 2 bars, you can slide a bag with a pass-thru over the handle and it stays in place. With a single bar, the bag just keeps slipping around.

Keeping those 2 things in mind, and the fact that I have not used it in real life yet, at this point, it seems like the best available on the market for a convertible backpack/ wheeled carry-on sized bag.

You get what you pay for. It’s pricey but impressive- a lot of bang for your buck.

I bought this bag back in 2017, meaning I’ve been using it for the past 5 years. Granted, during quarantine I was not using it at all, but I’ve brought this bag on 4 week long backpacking trips around the UK, a 2 week trip to Japan and just week trips to Mexico, everywhere.

I love the detachable day pack, such a great detail about this bag tbh. I’ve never checked in bag since buying this one. The main bag fits perfectly in the overhead bins and I’ve never been stopped by any of the workers for it being too big.

The day pack acts as my personal item and I board easily. I was only stopped once when coming back from Mexico for not being allowed to have 2 bags so I simply put the stuff in the day pack into the main bag and attached it.

The workers were definitely not happy lol because they wanted that money, but the looks on their faces was hilarious because they were not expecting that. All this to say, this bag is a great investment if you travel a lot and don’t check in bags.

Originally, I was between this and the duffel because I wasn’t sure if this was allowed as a carry on but I’m glad I went with this because there’s more space and walking around for hours with a backpack is a lot more comfortable than walking around with a duffel.

Also, the zipper on the front of the main bag that allows for you to view everything inside is great. No more digging around backpacks and dumping everything out.

Bought for an overseas trip hand luggage as old faithfull had fallen apart. 6 flights and 15 days later I have new travel mate that does everything carry on luggage should. Top notch security and protection! Highly recommend.

Good tough material with good useable space. I like that there are no divisions taking up interior room. That lack of separation might be a detriment to some, but met my needs. Trying to figure out how to open the locking mechanism without any instructions was a bit of a mystery at first, but eventually solved that problem.

This is a great travel bag for going overseas. It?s compact and comfortable to carry.

The XS/SM fits my 15″ torso great on the Small setting! It differs from the Deva not only in capacity but in suspension style. Its back is certainly more breathable and torso length more customizable.

However, what you gain in breathability you lose in lumbar support. The mesh FreeFloat backing is reminiscent of the osprey’s anti-gravity system with less of the “hip clamping” belt. My back does appreciate the increased support of the Deva’s Response A3 backing over the Jade, so much so that I’ve opted to carry my 60L Deva over my 38L Jade.

The added weight is worth it for the amount of support my back gets from it. I’ve taken this pack everywhere, from the Grand Canyon to New Zealand to the Antarctic Ice! I purchased it hoping it could double as a travel carry-on/hiking pack.

It’s certainly a great hiking companion but not the best travel bag. The straps, the brain, the compartments – they were all quite cumbersome on 15-hour flights, 1-day layovers and endless unpacking/repacking of adventures.

I’m excited to try Gregory’s Proxy 45L travel pack for my next flight. The Jade 38L capacity is a great size for ultralight backpacking or fully loaded day hiking. Things I’ve Learned: 1. No matter what bag you’re wearing, you DONT want your heavy stuff below OR above the pack’s frame.

You want to arrange heavy items against the middle of the frame in order for the weight to transfer to your hips via the hipbelt. Use lighter stuff around the heavy stuff and cinch down your side straps to hold things in place.

2. You fit the pack, the pack doesn’t fit you. A wiser, more experienced backpacker taught me this. You must tell the pack where you want it to fit you. In order to do that, you have to adjust what feels like endless straps at times, but it’s well worth it when you find your sweet spot.

I suggest a bottom-up process starting with the hipbelt (buckled snuggly at the belly button,) shoulder straps brought JUST to tension, sternum strap comfortably strapped, and finally the load lifters for a final shift of the weight onto the hips.

If your feeling the weight in your shoulders/upper back try playing with the tension of your shoulder straps and load lifters. I’ll often loosen my shoulder straps to drop the weight down on my hips and then bring the load lifters forward to balance the load.

3. Readjust each time you put your pack on. Yup, things are constantly changing from where we feel the tension in our body to how the pack’s weight is sitting on our body.

I’ve used my Zulu 30 for a dozen hikes now, and while I like the way it carries, I am frustrated by several issues. Overall the value is good, but I wouldn’t buy it again for my purposes. Firstly, the pack is heavy for its size in 2022.

2. 7lb for 30L. I understand it’s a consumer-line budget pack, but there are numerous companies that offer full-suspension 30L packs sub 26oz. Premium packs (Zpacks Arcs) are 18oz for 50L! Of course, different spending class, but it’s notable that Gregory still is choosing heavy, bulky fabrics instead of using their company size to scale lighter-weight production.

Also, the exterior pockets are all poorly designed. The rear mesh pocket is “tight”, and has little flexibility when the pack is fully loaded. Sure you can stuff some socks in it, but is lacks 3D flex – why not have chosen a quality Lycra mesh? Frustrating.

The water bottle pockets are classically difficult to access while wearing, and don’t hold thin/tall bottles (1L smartbottles for instance) very well. Better off using a shorter/squattier bottle like an Essentia.

7L, especially if you’re doing any technical work. Anyway, overall the pack is fine, and it carries weight well. The suspension is “overbuilt” for a 30L pack. it’s pretty hard to get enough weight in this little pack to use the suspension well.

I would really like to see Gregory leverage the experience of deep country backpackers to address some of the functionality issues. It seems like they’re a little more focused on making their line of packs “look” the same, with sleek, tight lines and pockets, rather than increasing functionality.

Also, use the bulk-buying power of a big to lighten your packs!.

In just a few weeks after purchasing, I’ve already used this bag on several day hikes and one overnight backpacking trip. The things I like: 1. I absolutely love the mesh back panel, it keeps my back super dry and way more vented than any of my other packs.

2. The shoulder straps and hip belt are very comfortable and easy to use, including the small hip pockets. 3. The included rain cover is such a nice touch 4. I like the Gregory hydration carrier system so much more than Camelbak.

The Zulu includes the very easy to use hydration system – the hanger clip with an elastic pocket to keep the bladder in and secured, the retention clip on the right shoulder strap to keep the hose secured, and the magnet that the bite valve attaches to.

Brilliant. 5. Side compression straps are routed under the side mesh pocket. 6. The mesh pocket on the front is secured with a clip rather than being free floating 7. You can access the inside of the bag from the front, makes it easy to get stuff in and out quickly.

What I don’t like: 1. I bought this bag to use for 1-2 day backpacking trips, so I needed to be able to fit water, food, layers/clothes, stove, accessories, sleeping bag and pad, and my tent. My small gripe is the lack of straps on the exterior, to lash either my tent or sleeping pad to the outside.

I actually ended up getting 2 adjustable straps sewn on the outside to fix this issue, so problem solved. Just wish it would have come with some on the outside bottom like most bigger packs come with.

2. The zippers on the hip pockets are somewhat challenging to use with one hand. Otherwise this is a stellar pack.

Good rucksack but a replacement for a 40L rucksack and it seems a lot smaller. The main chamber is smaller and there isn’t an easy access external “day pocket” for small things you use frequently. I’d give it maybe 3.

5/5, mainly due to the fact its “small” for its quoted size.

This is a good quality beginner pack for the price. My 13 year old will use it this Spring when we get back out on the trails.

Great bag with lots of space and pockets. The raincover was useful in the torrential rain en route.

We are active and love hiking. This was a great pack to use, we’ve gone on maybe 5 trips with this backpack, but it unfortunately lasted less than a year because the seam on the bottom front is starting to come out.

It looks like it may be defective because it isn’t unraveling which I expected with lighter back packs, but I’ve been impressed with that aspect so far- instead, it looks like the seam was just sewn too close or not all the way, so it’s been coming out and there’s a little hole at the bottom.

Since it’s in the front/smaller of the two pouches where we put smaller items it’s not great. We will have to try gluing or taping to keep things from falling out. Only other complaint I have is when the pack isn’t full, the side water bottle pockets don’t work as well water bottles kept falling out easily, even with the extra straps.

This is probably because the bag is lighter fabric and it is long so folds a bit if not weighted down. They work when the pack is fuller, and we started just clipping the water containers to the clips.

Pros:Overall, this is a great light backpack. I love the teal color! The multiple straps to secure things in are nice- there are four clips around the bag two help to keep items in the side pockets making them adjustable.

There are also loops in a number of places inside and out that we clipped things to. There is also a front clip to secure around your front, and it even has a whistle, which is a nice feature. It is light and easy to pack away until needed.

The waterproof pouch is really nice- we put wallets and phones in there- it’s very large and would work great if you have a bathing suit or something wet to keep from other items. It is on the back of the bag, so it doesn’t make the bag as breathable on your back we ended up rolling it up when not in use to get some air.

It is fast drying. There are three smaller pockets, one inside the front zippered area, and two in the back one is smaller zip pocket, and the other a large.

I needed another backpack for my three week Brazil trip and this backpack was awesome! I was concerned at the sturdiness of the material as I’ve had backpacks that fold into themselves tear really easily but this one is different.

It held its own and I packed it with tons of stuff too. Plus it conveniently folds into itself for easy storage without taking lots of room. I LOVE the waterproof pouch it was built into themain compartment/pouch in the bag.

It definitely holds one pair of clothes. It can probably fit more but I had a full backpack already so one change of clothes worked for me. Also, if you don’t have wet clothes to carry, you can use it to keep your electronics or wallet or passport safe when traveling.

I kept my passport in this pocket because the zipper is hidden on the back part of the backpack so when I wear it it’s up against my back. No pickpocketer can take it since they don’t have access to it.

Just be careful how you pack it so it doesn’t rub against your back in an uncomfortable way. I used it to pack a spare change of clothes for swimming in the river and then put my wet clothes in it when I was done.

The straps have some minor padding that worked just fine. It’s not some super padding like I’ve had in other backpacks but those other backpacks DIDN’T fold into themselves either so I’m not using it to compare.

Compared to other backpacks I’ve owned that DO fold into themselves, the padding on the straps was non existent. This backpack hast the right amount of padding. Again, it’s not like super thick like hiking backpacks but it’s not crazy thin either.

I was hesitant in buying this backpack but so glad I did! I love this backpack and it’s pretty much my new day backpack that I’m going to use regularly on my adventures whether it’s to the beach, hiking, traveling to see family, or going to places like Disneyland.

I orders this thinking it would be slightly bigger than my current hiking pack that only holds a couple small items. It’s bigger than my child’s school backpack! Not cool. It came wedged inside its very own carry case that turns into a pocket inside the backpack.

Once I got it out, there’s no putting it back inside that little pouch and no instructions on how to get it back inside. The fabrics is so thin that I’m sure it would tear the first time it gets snagged on a branch.

I’m 5’2 and because the pack is so big, when I tighten the straps to fit my height, half the bag folds under, making it bulky and almost impossibly to have anything in the bottom. The chest strap also lands in a very uncomfortable place across my boobs.

This bag is NOT made for short people. I’m returning it immediately because it’s nothing like described and unusable for short people.

Brilliant design, the padding, the 17 in. is perfect for my new Dell computer plus the AOC portable monitor and all the adaptors, cords, chargers, etc. that I would travel with. And. it comes with it’s own rain coat.

The various pockets, slots, and even hidden compartments, the zippers in the padded shoulder staples- just brilliant! I started out first researching Gaming Computer Backpacks ( although I wasn’t buying a gaming computer) because I knew it would be more protective.

Being on foot, or using public transit with such a heavy load, protection of my equipment was a main concern of mine. AS SOON AS IT ARRIVED- I KNEW THAT I MADE THE BEST CHOICE!.

Great Quality with 1 Fatal Flaw (for me, maybe not you): Great quality fabrics, sufficient space, ample organization pockets, durable zippers. however, if you’re someone carrying a ton of stuff (current student), the entirety of that weight is placed on Plastic D-Rings that the straps attach to.

No other location in that area for me to clip the straps to :/.

*** First Impression I bought this backpack in a sale for $50, and for that value it was a terrific deal. The backpack materials and manufacturing is of excellent quality. No loose threads or defects found.

Straps are uncomfortable and difficult to setup for taller people but they work. I bought this pack for dual purpose, most of time it will carry my camping gear when I go camping, and from time to time I will use it for traveling both locally or internationally.

Cons: – There is no way to hide the shoulder straps, I wish I could do that in case I need to check the bag in. – The straps are incredibly uncomfortable, I used the pack for ~10min when I received it and the next day I woke up with sore shoulders.

(Make sure you get used to this backpack before going on a trip or hitting a trail, similar to breaking in a pair of shoes). – The straps are fixed and hard to setup for taller people, I’m 5″11 and the waist strap sits about 1-2 inches above my waist.

I wish I could adjust it. – Sternum strap sits really high at its lowest setting I wish I could lower it ever more. – The “shoe” bag included at the bottom of the pack gets in the way and it makes difficult to use the space at the bottom of the pack even when it is not in use.

– The so called “laptop” sleeve is more of a “laptop destroyer” compartment since there is a curved aluminum pole behind it, and it will surely put a lot of pressure on anything that is put in it. Do not put valuable electronics in this sleeve.

I’ve been using this backpack recently for my hand luggage bag for short haul, low cost airline, short trips (2-6 days). I like that it’s so light and basic although a front pocket wouldn’t go amiss.

The straps are basic so aren’t padded but if you pack strategically and consider what you’re going to wear to travel in you can navigate this easily enough. The same goes for general bag use, pack considerately to avoid items sticking in your back.

The foldable top is a nice feature although again it’s basic with not much leverage to hold the fold down, despite the side clips. So far I’ve been able to pack for short holidays with a water bottle and toiletries easily enough.

I think for the price, it’s a good bag, especially with the tighter restrictions on bag sizes with some airlines lately. It’s also quite smart and handy enough to use as a day bag on arrival at your destination.

As per the material quality its good and Stritch is excellent. Its opening like suitcase also good. I hope it will be good for long term use. Its is easy to carry in Train and Flights. I have found few disadvantage.

Its not looks like 40 L. I can able to use up to 37 L only and the dimension calculation is 37. 50 L only. The inside show compartment is not that much good. We can keep sandals and slippers if we keep hiking shows or running shoes its not much comfortable.

The Price is bit costly. 2. 5 K is best price for this product. 3. 2k is more higher and if you add another 700 rupees you can get 60L. So its not price for 40L.

I loved the separate shoe/water compartment in the bottom. We traveled through the Azores, Mainland Portugal, Spain, Croatia and France. We brought spring suits with us as we were traveling in early June and the water was still a little chilly.

The shoe/water pouch worked great to store our wetsuits as they would still be damp and our dirty hiking shoes. The main bag was easy to pack and access the entire compartment. I liked the quick access pouch at the top of the main pack as it was a good spot to store passports and documents.

The zip away day pack was great. We would use it for day hikes in town, beach bag, as well as long hikes. It was super quick and easy to disconnect for boarding when using as a carry on and checking in the bigger bag.

It needed a waist strap, however, especially carrying a Nikon D750 with my Peak Design clip and lots of water. Overall, it was a great bag for the extended trip.

I bought this a year and a half ago and I’m not sure it was a good choice. I own three Gregory backpacks and am generally a fan of their designs, but I think they could have done better on this one. The pros are that it is a comfortable backpack and the main compartment is decently spacious for a carry on pack.

The cons are that there are a limited number of pockets, and the layout of the pockets is not the best design. For example, there are no pockets on the waist belt, which is odd because it’s a relatively large waist belt for the overall size of the bag.

Also, the pockets inside the bag don’t provide much organization (e. g. for chargers, small items, etc. ) and there are no side pockets, for a water bottle, etc. Perhaps the strangest design is that the laptop pocket is located towards the front of the pack, rather than closer to the wearer.

So the load distribution is unwieldy if you have a laptop in the bag. It’s worse if you have a laptop and the main compartment is not loaded, or loaded with light objects. Normally, what you might be able to do is collapse the main compartment with the straps to bring the load closer to the body, but because of the rigid side walls on this pack, you can’t do that.

This is another strange design: the side walls that can’t collapse so the bag maintains its volume whether or not it’s loaded. The laptop pouch should have been put closer to the wearer and the odor proof pocket could be put further away from the body.

There should be more interior pockets. There should either be pockets on the waist belt or the waist belt should be smaller.

The bag is designed well for travel. However, it can be improved. 55 L has 18 L daypack so the actual pack is only 37 L. I traveled for 18 days and most of the items I need can be squeezed into the main pack.

However, my hiking shoe doesn’t fit so I need to put that into the daypack. The major issue of this pack is RAIN COVER!!! The rain cover did not fit the full pack when it’s fully loaded. Since rain cover did not fit, I wasn’t able to secure all the straps for pack check-in purpose.

The rain cover would have been useless if there was rain in fully loaded pack situation. Also, the back of the rain cover needs to be rolled and tucked back inside. It did not do well when the pack is full.

It will be nice to include some sort of velcro to secure the backing of the cover. Please please fix and redesign that rain cover to accommodate for easy packing at the airport when bag is fully packed as well as easy on/off when it rains.

Minor issue: Another nice thing will be to have compression straps inside the pack since this will give a relief on a zipper and the seams of the pack when you are trying to squeeze everything in. The mesh top on top is also a bit weird because it limited the easy access as well as being able to put things in last minute.

Not exactly how you can redesign this to solve the problem. Also recommends to include slight more room for the water bottle pocket outside of day pack to fit in slightly bigger bottle or include side water bottle pocket outside of the main pack.

This pack has good potential. I’m not too sure how many people actually utilize the active shield but I didn’t. It took up weird space in the middle of the pack. I just traveled for 18 days and I was able to carry pretty much everything except hiking shoe inside the main pack to accommodate for 4 seasons weather.

At this point right now, I can make a recommendation to other people to buy this pack due to the design of rain cover.

My wife and I used the Fairview / Fairpoint as our only bags for 2 weeks and 4 cities across Italy. These bags held everything we needed and allowed us easy movement while using trains, planes, bus and cars to get around.

We didn’t bring laptops (just a tablet) but others have commented the laptop sleeve is not against your back and I agree it would be better there. Similarly the mesh water bottle sleeves are useless when bag is fully packed and compression straps are tight.

I just used a small clip on bottle and problem solved. Packing cubes highly recommended. Have used these for long weekends and it holds up just as well. I won’t go back to checked bags ever again. One additional item- I needed a short extender for the hip belt and Osprey sent not one but two 6 inch extensions with clips for no charge.

I used this pack to travel to Costa Rica and Colombia. It got on the plane easily each time. I attached an Osprey Daylite Plus to the front of this pack with the little hooks and that expanded my total liters to 75.

I have very minor qualms with it but overall it was incredibly solid and I’m surprised to be the first reviewer. I mean the only thing I wish was different was it being more than 55L and still capable of getting on a plane but I don’t think that’s Osprey’s problem.

Their anti-gravity design is amazing and why I choose an Osprey but I think it shaves off quite a few liters because of that. I’ll get a ULA for my next travel pack since theirs seem to max out the liters and still be carry on possible.

Was very excited to receive this bag for an upcoming overnight. The clamshell opening style is really convenient and makes it more luggage-like but there are two deficiencies with this bag that have me wondering.

First, the zippers have nice long pulls but they get stuck around the top corners even when using care to make sure the tracks are aligned. It’s eventually workable but not great to need to spend the additional time and care still.

The most frustrating thing I’ve found with this bag is that the balance is way off. Both loaded and unloaded it falls forward when set down on its base. Sometimes bags need to be set down and there may not always be an object to carefully lean it against.

Not sure if I received a dud but for the price I expected better weight distribution in that regard. It’s not all bad though. The straps are comfortable and the multiple grab handles are really convenient.

There are pockets everywhere inside to store and separate all your things. The expansion and rolling bag strap are nice touches as well. On the fence as to whether to keep looking or live with the things that could have been better here.

This is my travel buddy! Especially when travelling through an airplane. I like that it has a lot of pockets. There’s a pocket for all the things you need while travelling. I like that it is made from 100% recycled fabrics and it is very well made and designed.

It is expandable from 28L to 32L. All you need to do is open the zipper from side to side. It secures my 13 inches laptop inside as it is padded inside. I also like that it has a TPU divider that keeps item separated, secured and dry during travel.

If I am trekking, hiking or simply travelling and it is raining, I make sure to put all my valuables and electronics inside the TPU divider to protect it from water. It also has a dedicated bottle pocket on the side that keeps your bottle secured and within reach.

Internal pockets are for smaller items like earphones and chargers so you can easily find them and grab them. This fits perfectly on the overhead bin or under your seat on the plane. I highly recommend it.

This could be the perfect carry on back pack to fit all your electronics, medium trip clothing and accessories and then some. But I found at least two design issues that inhibits it’s full potential.

I have used this as a carry on all g with a roll aboard carry on for a 8 day trip in the UK/Scotland. First, When the internal tie downs in the main compartment are cinched fully the zipper for the electronics compartment does not close smoothly.

Second, when you stow the pack on your roll aboard handle you have to flip the pack on its side. Which means you can’t keep your water bottle in its pocket when carrying it this way as the bottle slot is on the side.

Defeats the purpose!! Thule design team – maybe you will address in the next iteration. Happy to give additional feedback.
