20 Best 42In Zero Turn Mower (2022 Updated)

The Z24 was my second choice, because my first choice was not available. But this is a very nice mower, and I’m happy it. I chose the 42″ deck because it’s more maneuverable and easier to store than a 54″ or 60″ mower.

I can probably mow my 2 acres just as fast with the 42″ deck than the bigger models because it can squeeze around flower beds and trees a bit easier. It’s fun to drive, so even if it takes a few extra passes to mow, I don’t mind.

The big 725 cc Kawasaki motor is a beast, with tons of power to spare. It starts easily and runs really nicely, and the controls are linear and easy to handle. Be sure to compare the blade speed to other mowers you’re shopping – the X242 shoots clippings about 20 feet! The only real compromise is that the Z242’s rear tires are a bit small and they slide and spin a little in the steeper parts of my yard.

They also look wimpy. I’m going to fill them with RimGuard to try to improve the traction.

I received the Z24 on a Friday and used it for the first time on Saturday. The hardest part of using it was getting it out of the well-secured shipping crate. I was halfway through mowing my 1-acre lot on the lake when a rock ledge I was mowing near gave way.

When it did, the mower with me on it flipped backward over the ledge and did two or three somersaults down a 45-degree grade hill toward the lake. A small tree stopped the descent about 65′ down the hill with the mower resting on its right side and the engine guard embracing the tree.

Fortunately, the mower ended up between me and the tree. The zero-turn levers had acted like a seat belt, so I never left the mower all the way down. When it suddenly stopped, I fell from the seat with only a few scratches.

The severe slope had apparently kept most of the mower weight off me as we did the somersaults down the hill. With the help of some good neighbors, a 4 wheel drive pickup, and some really long straps, we were able to pull the mower up the 65′ of 45-degree grade hill and over the ledge that had collapsed.

The only damage to the mower was the left hydraulic wheel lock pin was bent. I took the bracket off, straightened it in a vice, put it back on, and started the mower. It ran like new, which it was, and I was able to finish mowing the yard.

I doubt that anyone else has driven their zero-turn off a cliff, winched it back up, and then finished mowing the yard, all in one day. God was with me that day, or maybe the feral cat I’ve been feeding for the past 13 years gave me one of his 9 lives.

It truly was a miracle that I was not severely injured or killed, and it was also a miracle that the mower suffered no real damage. Anyway, if you find a more durable or reliable mower, please let me know.

I will buy it if this one ever quits working.

I chose this model because of the additional horsepower above the standard model sold at the local hardware stores. Online demonstrations confirmed. Actual performance has been outstanding with a little bit of a learning curve on driving a zero turn for the first time, but the machine works perfectly.

The grass catcher is a must and works great. With a huge leaf cleanup effort, I found that allowing the chute to plug makes the machine function as a mulcher for the leaves and it really worked through huge piles of leaves.

Great machine and appears really well built.

IšverstiShow in original languageI have not had a riding lawn since I was a kid and my father got one. This mower was given to me as a gift from my children. I love having a riding lawn mower. However, after the first mowing my battery went dead.

I am currently jumping it to start it which is not difficult but just a pain. I’m going to have to buy a charger and charge the battery to see if that will fix the problem. The mower doesn’t charge the battery that I can tell.

I like that the chute is made of heavy plastic so I can get through the gate from my front yard to the backyard. It is a pleasure to mow the grass while riding. I still use my small walk behind to outline the yard and do the close work around the deck etc.

Mower has plenty of power to mow through my thick grass. I wish my kids had bought the bagger kit to go with it. But I really can’t complain!! I’ve got a riding mower!!! I have my reliability ratings due to the battery issues I’m having so far.

IšverstiShow in original languageI have had this lawn tractor for 3 years and worked well. This spring the throttle control cable pulled through the plastic control lever and had to take it apart and order a new one.

Very poor design and cheap assembly. Would recommend mfg to redesign throttle control assembly. Cable has to snake from left side around engine and up front to throttle lever. very tight, should have throttle control assembly lever on right side.

Also redesign throttle lever assembly better, after some use it wears the plastic connection to lever assembly out and just pulls through, reguiring new cable assembly.

IšverstiShow in original languageI first bout this 3 years ago. The 1rst season started have trouble with the starter solenoid. Called the local rep in Fort Wayne and was told it would be weeks until they could get to me.

I told him all I wanted was the solenoid but he wouldn’t even take time to answer me. He muttered something and hung up. Ticked off, I gave him a very poor rating, found the part I needed on-line and had it fixed within days.

So much for Lowes service plans. Never again! Seat cover split open last summer and I store it inside so disappointment in that. Those have been the only problems I have had and I mow about 1. 5 acres of grass.

The mulch kits shown do not not fit very well and cause grass clipping to pile up along the edge instead of being spread out. Cutting is okay and easy to change oil and filters. It has reverse mowing option to allow mowing in reverse which I use a lot.

Gas tank is a little small. The bracket could hold a much larger tank. Steering is pretty loose. The mechanism and linkage is cheaply designed. I have looked at it but do not see a way to improve it.

Nothing is loose. Just poorly designed. Troy-Bilt is nothing like it used to be. I still have a tiller bought 30 years ago and still going strong. Like most things now, company profits determines durability and quality of the product.

Brief personal background: I am a retired electrical engineer with 4 years in electrical generation power industry and 42 years in semiconductor design/manufacturing. I have been mowing yards for over 50years and in my youth worked on farms running mostly tractors with different attachments.

I mainly have experience with gas power push mowers and on the farm with large 20 ft bush hogs. This is my first for both electric and Zero Turn Mower (ZTM). Brief history of ownership: I have used this mower 2 times mowing a little over an acre that is mainly Bermuda grass but does have some crab and blue grass.

First time yard was little wet and about 4. 5 inches high, second was dryer and the grass was about 3. 5 inches. I use the 2. 67” blade height setting. My yard has about 25 obstacles to mow around and is mostly level (only a small ditch).

I mowed during the day, so lights were not needed. Brief Summary of mower: I bought this from Lowes and had it delivered. Lowes had already assembled it before delivery but from instruction seem to be very straight forward.

This ZTM has very good ergonomics (I am 5’7”, 190lbs), very easy to operate (setting are mostly intuitive), with very good displays showing different setting, status of battery level, and alarms if they occur, very quiet compared to gas mowers, cut quality at the 2 highest blade speed setting was very good and even, steering controls good (since first time with ZTM it hard for me to compare this to gas version or other electric but I do think the control of speed and turning could be a little more linear), battery life good (It took about 50min to mow and had 20% left on battery using 2nd highest setting on blade speed and 2nd setting on drive speed, this is from a 100% charge).

The charger was very easy to mount and will run on a 15amp service. From ~ 20% battery level to 100% took 1. 75 hrs. Cleaning after use was very easy with hose quick disconnect and just blowing off the upper deck.

The main reason I bought this mower was I had good experience with their trimmer and edger. Also, I like the battery pack design that displays battery level and appears to provide good cooling of the battery and charger.

I like the ability to remove and replace batteries if needed. The S/W application was easy to down load and run, check the firmware for any updates (mine did not need any), and status of the mower. EGO web site for registering was easy to use (It would be nice if EGO had a way for the mower to read serial number of the mower, batteries, and charger, so when you log in with the app this would automatically load for registration) Pros: Ergonomic, chair comfort, controls/displays, battery design, cutting quality and power, manual is very clear and coverage of operation/safety, S/W app and firmware update capabilities, overall design.

Cons: Price, speed and turn controls (needs to be little more linear) Recommendations: 1) Include the full six 10amps/hr batteries and mulching attachment 2) Blade height setting needs a better way to display the setting, I would recommend showing this on the main control display it could easily be done.

3) Have mower read serial number for easy warranty setup. 4) On the discharge chute add a simple way to lower and raise, to improve storage and maneuverability.

I used to do professional lawn care using commercial grade Scag zero turn mowers. I feel very qualified to provide a review of any zero turn. Although I am no longer mowing professionally, I wanted to keep a zero turn mower for my own yard.

A couple of things are very important to me when it comes to mowing: efficiency, which means mowing fast while also doing a good and thorough job without damaging the lawn with spinning tires or running into obstacles, clean lines, and the blades not skipping over areas leaving uncut grass.

I also wanted to get an electric mower to reduce maintenance requirements. I no longer wanted to mess with belts, oil, spark plugs, or lead batteries. I tested an electric Cub Cadet zero turn but got the Ego because the steering on the Ego is smoother and free of jerks.

Coming from commercial grade, the 42″ Ego satisfies my needs and probably would for almost any homeowner. I like how the entire deck can be easily removed which makes accessing the blades for removal/sharpening easy.

The seat is very comfortable and the front lights are very bright. The only negatives are that the Ego is lighter weight than a commercial grade heavy duty mower with relatively small drive wheels so it can struggle to travel lengthwise along slopes without slipping down the slope (most of my 1 acre is on a slope).

I can take my time and mow all of my property which totals about 3/4 acre worth of grass and have 25% battery remaining. For tall grass it skipped in a few places which requires a second pass. Since I am spoiled by the weight and thorough cutting of commercial mowers, I know what mowers are capable of.

This mower is not a commercial mower and keeping that in mind with the pricetag on this Ego, I can easily give it a 5 star review. A commercial grade mower can easily cost 5000 to 15000 more than the Ego, so in my opinion you get a really good value in the peace ofbmind that this mower will work eveytime you go out to the garage or shed and it will do a satisfactory job of cutting your grass.

Add to that the compatibility of batteries with other Ego products and this makes it a good mower.

Having owned 34 inch Arians zero turn gas mower with a 14 hp Briggs & Stratton engine (engine died after 5 years) ,and I have also owned a Ryobi 480me 38” electric riding mower both for 5 years ( battery was losing capacity) , I am neither new zero turn mowers or electric mowers.

Compared to the gas it’s refreshing to have quiet, reduced maintenance and not having to breathing the fumes especially when parking in the shed. I am able to cut my grass sideways in the ditch whereas my gas version I could only do up and down as it would just turn to the bottom.

It’s a crutch of all zero turn mowers but the Ego handles it much better. Compared to the prior will be electric with lead acid batteries, it has both way more power and better control of speed, blade speed and different control mode.

The lead acid batteries just did my acreage when they were new, the Ego I did my acreage and the ditch and I had 50% of the battery left. Being a zero turn it also does the job a lot faster as I have lots of obstacles and irregular shape of my lawn.

The Ego powertrain is quieter than the Ryobi electric. I haven’t cut any deep grass with it yet as I am currently in a drought and it’s the fall, so the real test will come in the spring. The only thing I don’t like about it is the deck makes a lot of noise when it’s going fast over bumps, a lot more than the other two mowers.

I think the frame is good because a lot of times and uneven surfaces when we will be in the air which suggests a strong frame but maybe you need some bushings just to get rid of the noise from the vibration in the deck, Ryobi had way less.

I also wish it came with 12 amp hour batteries. This is my first mower where you can attach a hose to clean the deck which to me is important. I also wish the batteries were under the seat to reduce overall length of the mower for easier storage but that’s just nitpicking.

I purchased this mower in March of 2019. I was very pleased with it. All the reviews were great, which helped me make my decision on purchasing the mower. After the first year of use, I am not pleased at all with the mower.

I have had to replace belts several times. One day the mower wouldn’t move at all, nothing, not a budge. A spring had broken. One day while mowing, the blade just stopped turning, a wire in the switch that controls the blade had broken, yesterday, after less than 5 uses, the same issue again with the blade stopping.

I really thought this mower was going to be worth the money. I’m getting very tired of almost every time I mow grass, the mower need to go to the shop for repairs afterwards.

I purchased this mower well over a month ago from the dealer in Greensburg on Route 30. The performance of the unit is less than I had hoped for, as a matter of fact the unit even just slightly graded property can be a hand full.

Perhaps a more aggressive tire pattern would help. The unit that I took delivery of, was missing two different bolts. I was promised that they would be mailed to me. Never happened. I went to the hardware store and bought them myself.

That is on your Dealer. I didnt care, but that should have been an easy task for them to do. Bought a Cub Cadet and now that takes care of my of my needs.

My Z248F is my tractor. The tractor was well-crated and arrived with no damage. Following the instructions was pretty easy, and did not take long to complete. The operation instructions were not so easy to follow.

I would recommend going to YouTube and using those videos to help understand the initial procedures to start and operate the tractor. They were very helpful. Once I watched the videos I was ready to start using my zero turn tractor.

I have since cut our 1. 67 acres with no issues and appreciate the time I have saved by using the Z248F.

When I got to first turning the blades on, I noticed the belt was extremely jumpy, and after cutting a few swaths, I noticed smoke coming from the deck. Low and behold, one of the tensioner pulleys wasnt turning.

Someone at the factory used the wrong size washer on the top of the pulley and caused it to seize the bearing. This was the only quality issue I found, and after replacing it with a washer I had in the bin, the deck blades spun well, and the belt was smooth.

The mower is absolutely a blast to use. The setup was straightforward, and the controls and maintenance are very intuitive. I had a smile on my face the entire time I mowed my lawn – which used to take 60 minutes on my old lawn tractor, now only takes 15 minutes.

The quality is good, seems like they thought of everything. Except for a fuel gauge. Even my 25-year-old MTD had that. You can mow tall grass at full speed, and the engine doesnt even seem to notice.

The cutting is fantastic (very even). Its not crazy heavy either, so it doesnt put ruts in the lawn. Not sure the deck wash system is very practical, but I tried it anyway. Id recommend this mower to anyone.

Great first-time ztr mower. Its not a Gravely or an Exmark, but its perfect for what I need it for, and I expect it to last well beyond its warranty. Cant go wrong with Husqvarna and Kohler.

We purchased our Z254 in the summer of 2018 and it IS the a work horse. Until recently the only thing that we have had done is routine maintenance thru a local repair shop. Our model has the Brigg and Stratton engine and is running just as strong and reliable as the mower body.

Due to unforeseen circumstances with the repair shop closing and my husband is the only one able to work now. We are forced to do our own maintenance and replace the deck wash port, deck gauge wheels and a front tire/hub and chute.

We hope to find a paint tube to fix a few places that need touched up. These parts just recently has broken or became worn. We would recommend this mower to the world if asked about the durability, ease of use and the flat out quality of this CUT ABOVE any zero turn on the market.

I have worked with a couple of local commercial mowing companies and our Z254 SURPASSES in EVERY aspect to any of the machines they are loyal to. “DECKS DOWN!” I am sorry, I can’t post pictures of the mower.

The packaging was so sturdy! Had fun taking it apart with my wife, 10-year-old son and a crowbar. It took less than an hour. The crowbar is essential. Ours was like 16 – 18 inches long with flat ends.

I didn’t know anything about riding mowers. It’s difficult to attach one side of the battery because it’s hard to reach. There’s no gas gauge. It comes with practically clear synthetic oil prefilled.

I filled it with premium gas and it starts right up. It’s pretty fast! I like how zero-turn mowers have a wider swath than non-zero turns. It takes much less time than my neighbors. Our 1. 5-acre yard has a steep slope, and it angles too.

It does not handle well at all trying to mow downhill when there’s an angle. But like I said, our yard is steep. If mows fine downhill, as long as there’s not much angle. You must mow uphill if there’s an angle.

We got the light accessory. It wasn’t too difficult to install. The light is always on once you turn the key. The seat is comfortable. Love the 2 drink holders. It’s so cool the way it maneuvers so closely around trees, bushes, and everything else.

We paid for the shipping via truck with a lift ramp. The driver wanted to drop it off way downhill at the start of our driveway. I had to talk him into backing up the steep driveway, which he handled quickly and easily.

It was no problem at all.

I’ve owned my mower for a couple months. I mowed my 1 acre property and it mowed like a charm. Loved everything about it. 2weeks later I started mowing and It took 3 days to finish because the large deck belt would not stay on.

It appeared to be WAY too big! Finally found a place to go buy a belt to replace the seemingly perfect just too big belt that was on it and the dealer was more concerned with why I didn’t purchase my mower thru him then helping me find the belt I needed.

I replace the belt and cut my grass for a 3rd time, the deck seemed to rattle a bit more than I thought it would but otherwise did a great job. The 4th time cutting my ONE acre property however proved to one again leave me struggling to finish the job.

Now I’m forced to load up my less then 5 hour old mower and haul it 4 hours in order to be serviced because I’ve of the transmissions keeps locking up. I’m very disappointed in my first zero turn purchase.

From the go, one valve cover leaked oil. The muffler guard was too small and if I stopped on the lawn THE EXHAUST WOULD KILL THE GRASS. I made a larger baffle I had to adjust the brakes as it was too hard to go into park.

I added a trailer hitch, hour meter and arm rests. I did not take it back to dealer due to the distance, but did the repairs myself (20 yrs mower repair business. ) Excellent mower but assembly workmanship not so good.

I bought this 2 weeks ago , seems to cut good but there is no Hr. meter or gas gage. in Manual it has service intervals in Hours used. but no meter. also you have to guess at how much gas is left. I put the mulching blade and cover on it but haven’t tried it yet.

when cutting leaves they don’t cut very fine. hopefully the mulcher is better. I did not know I was paying a new price for a discontinued model.

This is my first Zero Turn. Probably overkill for my 0. 28 acres, but I wanted more than a push mower and wanted the control of a zero turn and wanted to have something I didn’t need to keep gas sitting around for.

Overall the build quality seems great. I like the full metal frame and metal deck. Competitors are now moving to plastic and I just don’t think that would last for a mower. There’s some lighter paint coverage (dark spots) on the front wheel mount of mine, but it was the only one my local TSC had.

Driving it is smooth, control is great. I noticed that one side seems to be a little faster than the other. Not by much, but my lawn is not perfectly flat (it slopes down from the house to the sidewalk nearly all the way around) and I found that I had to adjust one of the bars further ahead than the other.

After mowing the first time (slowly and getting used to the mower), I had used 15% of the total battery (more later). Traction is okay. I had some wheel slip on what I would not consider complicated obstacles.

One front wheel got stuck in a 2″ rut where some recent sidewalk work had occurred and I needed to use both rear wheels to get it out (if I used one side only trying to go up the lower slope of the hole, it would just spin.

Maybe it’s my newness with zero turn mechanics?) I weigh ~230lbs with the mower, so I don’t know why the traction is light. I dropped the air pressure a little in the tires, maybe it will help this week.

I kind of wish reversing wasn’t such a huge difference (limited speed) from forward driving because it feels jarring to me when reversing that it feels limited too much. The seat could possibly use more adjustment to the rear.

I feel like I’m too far forward in relation to the control bars. (I’m 6’2″) I would rate it 4/5 because I think it’s a good mower and it seems like it will serve me well. It’s not perfect but close. Some minor nitpicks.

I pulled a star because of some confusion around the TSC site and the Greenworks documentation. My local TSC assembled the mower already, so I could not inspect all the parts and pieces that are supposed to come with it before I took it home.

I’m missing a QR code (never got any paperwork either) to apparently connect up the mobile app to the mower. I can connect the batteries. They handed me my batteries in a cardboard box from another product (beef jerky or something.

) The one associate that helped me made a mention to driving the other the floor model with the steering wheel around the store to try it out. I really didn’t care at first if they wanted to run it a bit, the 2 hours of run time mine had before I got it home is not going to impact the performance or quality.

If it does, there’s other issues, but if that’s why I got 3 different batteries then I would have preferred to just get the batteries sealed in their original box. I charged up all the batteries to 100% and after my first mow three of the batteries were lower than the other three.

This is my biggest concern, but it has a 4 year warranty. We’ll see how these batteries work out. I have marked them to keep an eye on the levels. I don’t know if I got three old/other batteries or if they just discharge at different rates depending on where they are in the slots.

The confusion around documents and features listed on the TSC site is that everything around this mower lists it having mulching capability as well as mulching blades, but TSC phone support confirmed with me that no mulching cover comes with this mower (although the sister model with the same mowing deck, but with a steering wheel, has a mulching cover.

) I mulch my lawn clippings and I was hoping to be able to continue doing this. So far TSC has stated no mulching kits are available and Greenworks apparently commented on another review that it’s not available.

I wish I had seen that before. I really don’t want to return a whole mower over this so I guess I wait to see. The user manual has a section on installing the mulching cover as well. It also states this mower has an ETO socket (2″ receiver port on the front of the mower) and the socket is there, but there’s no electronic ports or wires anywhere on the front of the mower and as far as I can tell there are only a handful of things you can even get to possibly put in this socket.

I’ve seen it on other zero turn mowers, but accessories seem to be non-existent.

I’ve been using Greenworks for years (push mower and weedwhacker) and those batteries still work great, so I decided to go for this ZT and. its amazing. Tractor Supply tossed in a free hedge trimmer and ZT mower cover, if they offer you a freebie I would recommend the blower since you can’t wash these mowers.

Its rated for one hour and 2 acres of use, but I seem to get about 3 1/2 acres consistently so range depends on the rider and the lay of the land. I love the trunk, I use it far more than I expected, I also use this ZT to tow a small garden trailer sometimes.

Its so easy to use my kids even like driving it (or going on rides in the trailer) :-). I live on 11 acres so I’ve cut everything from my front yard to the back pasture (at night, its so quiet it doesn’t bother anyone like a normal gas mower would and the headlights are actually effective!!).

With front yard style grass it cuts beautifully, my back pasture is more of a bush hog type situation but it breezes through that easily too with my deck set to 3. 5. So yeah, knee height grass and still easily breezes through 2 acres with room to spare on my batteries.

Batteries charge quickly too, only 90 minutes from empty to full recharge. Charge and store the batteries inside your house, these are lithium batteries so you don’t want to leave them in a garage that isn’t temp controlled.

The negatives are few-my left arm bar seems slightly higher than my right one, and it can’t be corrected. Attempts to call Greenworks customer service failed, nobody ever answered the phone, I stayed on hold until eventually Greenworks disconnected the call.

Lastly, the rear wheels are a bit too smooth for my taste. They’ll work great on flat land, but they tend to slip and slide on hills especially if there is any dew on the grass. If you have other 60V Greenworks tools then you’ll be even happier with this purchase, since the batteries you’ll get with this mower will really really increase the operating time of your tools.

This is due to the higher AH you get with the mower vs the tools (8AH vs 2AH).

I bought this to replace a 42″ Hustler Sport. I have 2. 3 acres with a little over 1 acre of grass lawn and have around 10 hours on the mower now. Below are my thoughts: Batteries: Heat is the battery killer and I love that that these have air vents for cooling.

The chargers and mower have fans which force air through the batteries which should help extend their lifetime. The capacity is great too. After mowing my 1 acre of grass I still have 60% charge and can use the mower for hours hauling my cart around with the charge level barely moving.

Battery charging is REALLY fast compared to my 40v Ryobi tools. Ride Comfort: Smoother than my old zero turn and the seat if very comfortable. Quality of Cut: Very happy. The anti scalp wheels work well and I am able to mow at a very good speed.

Mulch kit performance is great. Power/Performance: I have found that mowing with blade speed set to low and drive speed set to high is ideal. I haven’t found anything yet that requires the high blade speed setting.

Compared to my old hustler it is a little easier to accidentally spin a wheel if not careful. I have had to get smoother with the drive handle input. Utility: Towing works great and I use the rear cargo bed almost constantly.

Find a few pine cones you don’t want to run over? Throw them in the back! Want to bring pesticide? Keep a sprayer or bag of granules in the back while mowing. Maybe a bag of leveling sand for rough spots! I also compared this to the Ryobi zero turn and this one felt much more substantial when sitting on them.

The Greenworks looked like it belonged next to the other gas zero turns sitting next to it. Overall I am extremely happy and hope I am able to keep this mower for many years. I am considering switching from Ryobi 40v yard tools to Greenworks 60v tools if I continue to have no problems.

IšverstiShow in original languageGood quality machine. Runs and mows good. Plenty of power, 22hp. Actually I purchased a 34″ machine, not 42″. This is because anything bigger would not fit in my storage building or gate.

The only negative is the narrow cutting deck that is the same width as the back wheels. It is not possible to cut closely all the way around trees or other objects. If you try the wheel hits the tree.

Otherwise it will make a zero turn with no problem.

IšverstiShow in original languageWe’re a couple of senior citizens, ages 82 & 90, maintaining several acres with a traditional riding lawn mower until our son encouraged us to get the 54” Toro TimeCutter MyRide Zero Turn Mower (75757).

The White Glove Delivery was extremely helpful and resolved all of our questions. Our concerns about driving a zero turn disappeared quickly as we experienced how easy and natural it is to drive this Toro.

A huge bonus for us is the comfort of the MyRide suspension seat and we are really impressed with the finished cut on our lawn using the Toro.

IšverstiShow in original languageI have a 1. 5 acre lawn to mow. It’s big and it’s bumpy. For 20 odd years I’ve been bouncing around on various lawn tractors. It took 3 and a half hours to mow and my neck and back hurt for days.

I just took 5 of them to the dump. I finally decided to go with a zero turn unit. This Toro with its 54 inch cut, 7mph speed, and my ride suspension can cut the lawn in just over an hour and a half. After which I can get off and continue to work virtually pain free.

Switching from a steering wheel to the zero turn steering took a little getting used to and I did tear up the grass chute in the first 15 minutes. (Put trees on your left side when going around them).

I’ve only put probably 20 hours at most but I expect that the Kawasaki engine will out last the Briggs and Stratton and Koehler engines I’ve had before. With the Toro name backing this machine I believe I’ve made a good choice.

And no more aching back!.

Used it about a dozen times so I think I can give it a fair review now. I use it to mow about a one-acre yard on my farm and then I trailer it to mow a one-acre commercial property. It replaced a push mower, so beware I might be more favorable towards it than others might be.

This is my first zero-turn machine so there was a bit of a learning curve to overcome in driving it. I purchased it fully assembled from my local TSC, they did a pretty good job except for not sufficiently tightening some bolts on the steering bars (I should have more thoroughly test drove it before taking it home).

This nearly ended in disaster on the first use when one of bars loosened and I lost control of the machine. Fortunately, I had enough time to collect my senses and kill the motor before too much damage was done.

(Hey engineers at Toro, research the concept of safe-failure before starting your next design. ) Otherwise, I’m happy with the machine and it almost meets all expectations. Easy to start, seems economical on fuel, reasonably comfortable (but it is loud – buy ear protection along with the mower).

Mows close to fences pretty good. What I wished was better: 1) quality of cut – have to drive it slowly to get the best results, 2) ground holding ability – the slightest slope is a challenge, especially for this newbie, 3) the grass clippings chute sticks way out there and is easily snagged on fence posts and trees (needs some kind of mechanism to allow it to deflect?).

This review lost one star because I cannot get its drive motors balanced. One hydro-motor has noticeably less torque than the other and I have to drive with one steering bar offset by about a half inch from the other.

In effect always having to slightly counter-steer to go in a straight line (it was originally pretty bad). This gets irritating after a while. My mower does not have enough range of adjustment to correct this.

I purchased my mower from a local big box store online. The mower was shipped to an auto parts store dealer in my town to be delivered to me. The auto store called me when they received the mower and made arrangements to deliver the mower.

The man delivering the mower got on it and drove it a little bit and then showed me the basics and left. Not ever using a zero turn mower I quickly went through the owner’s manual and then proceeded to pretend to mow with my new mower.

I had a little trouble getting the hang of things because as soon as I brought the handles up to what should have been the neutral position the mower started to move ever so little to the left. Also when I had the mower on a straight stretch it pulled more to the left and I had to pull back on the right lever.

Then when backing up the right side would hardly pull at all it was most the left. Needless to say I was having a terrible time learning to drive my first zero turn. After taking the mower back to the auto parts store and going over the manual myself I was able to adjust the motion going forward so that both sides were pulling the same but then when I had both levers push all the way forward the two levers were off (not equal) by several inches.

I thought surely this cannot be correct on a brand new mower! So I called Toro and they suggested I take it back to the auto parts store which I already had to no avail. So I look around for other Toro dealerships which had a service department.

I found one about 40 miles to west of me. I called Toro again and asked about having the Mower checked out under warranty and the representative told me I could but when I contacted the dealership they told me it would not be covered under warranty that I would have to pay for any adjustments made unless they found a faulty part was the cause of my problem.

I needed my mower setup correctly so I could learn to mow with it so I took it had it adjusted and paid for it out of my pocket. It’s hard for me to believe that Toro is not able to setup these mowers correctly at the factory before they are shipped out.

You should only have to add oil and gas before being able to use your new mower. I feel this is quite an unacceptable practice by Toro and it does not make me look favorable toward their product name.

I purchased the mower about a month and a half ago. I also purchased and installed the recycler kit. The recycler kit was easy to install and all parts fit perfectly. It’s nice not having to worry about grass discharge as I have many mulched planting beds in my yard.

I’ve only mowed with the mower three times. It takes a little time to become accustomed to operating a zero turn mower, but after a few laps around the yard, things become a little more intuitive. I can see that mowing time will be reduced substantially.

I’ve had two problems with the mower. While mowing, the engine sputters and then stalls out. The first two times I used the mower, this problem occurred after approximately 30 minutes of use. The third time, the problem occurred throughout the mow.

After a stall I have to wait a few minutes before restarting, then mow for a short while before the next stall. This is very disappointing for a fairy expensive yard mower. I plan to limp through one more mow this season and take it in for a warranty repair.

The other problem is that the right drive wheel rotates at a faster rate than the left wheel causing me to back off the speed on the right wheel to drive straight. The owner’s manual has instructions for making an adjustment for this situation.

I have not attempted the adjustment and will ask the repair shop to address the issue when they address the stalling issue. If these issues are addressed, I think I will be very pleased with my purchase.

I’ll update my review after a few mows next spring.

I have a pretty big grassy area at a lot I own that I have to keep maintained in addition to the lawn at my house so I’m very well versed on zero turn mowers. Now I have to state upfront I am a Cub Cadet fan and have been for many years so getting the Ultima ZTS1 42” zero turn mower didn’t even require a second thought, that said lets cut to the chase and get into this mower.

Shipping packing/de-crating – The ZTS1 comes fully plastic wrapped strapped to a custom built wooden protective frame. This shipping frame is quite large as it must contain the full mower, keep note of that should you intend to pickup and transport it yourself, in my case the unit was delivered by a trucking company.

The frame did it’s job well as the unit had zero defects that I could find after de-crating. To de-crate you will need a nut driver and drill as well as a straight claw hammer or, as I used, a crowbar.

First I removed the lag bolts on both ends of the craft and then crow-barred off the sides. Once down to a bare frame I cut the three straps holding the unit to the crate bottom (the crate in my case sits on top of an additional pallet) and WITH HELP (the unit weighs approximately 600lbs) lift and push the unit off the crate bottom.

NOTE do not try and drive the unit off the crate, it’s easy to tell this won’t work but I am sure that someone will try, trust me, get a couple of people and work it off. Assembly – Assembly was a breeze as the unit came 99% assembled.

Once off the crate I located the manuals and parts bag then got to work with the couple of items that needed to be installed before use. Note that the key is zip tied to the discharge chute deflector and includes a small quick ref card which was a nice touch.

I checked the oil level as well as the tire pressure, note that the tires were at various inflation levels but all above the level indicated on the tire, make sure to deflate to the appropriate PSI. I then hooked up the battery and filled the fuel tank.

Note that you need to use regular gasoline or, a maximum of ethanol 10 either at 87 octane, I am calling this out as ethanol 15 is common in some areas. Use – The ZTS1 fired up almost immediately with the choke on and quickly came to a nice even idle.

I don’t know if it is me or just that my old zero turn is louder but the Ultima ZTS1 seems at least a little quieter than my 7 yr old Cub. The controls should be familiar to anyone that has used a zero turn mower except the steering wheel, I know everyone is used to the directional control levers but the steering wheel is just as responsive, even if it takes a few laps to get used to.

I think it took maybe four passes to quickly get some dexterity using the steering wheel but it quickly became second nature. Now as for the features lets dive in (note I will probably leave some off as it’s these that come to mind after my first use), I love the LED headlights, they really light the way in low light well.

The steering wheel tilt is very nice and has a great range BUT the lever leaves something to be desired. The deck height knob is nice and it’s easy to select the desired height, and in my opinion, is much nicer to use than the lever type I have on my old Cub.

The deck height range is more than sufficient from 1. 0” to 4. 25”. The transmission is super responsive to all inputs and lends to very precise maneuvering. All in all I am in love with the ZTS1 and am ready after the first use to retire my old Cub to my dad.

My Final thoughts on the Cub Cadet ZTS1 42” is that, as I have come to expect from Cub Cadet, it is a cut above and them some from the competition. Everything from the intuitive control locations and layout to the precision of the steering, the ZTS1 brought the enjoyment back into mowing that I felt with my first zero turn, and as I have learned with Cub Cadet the ZTS1 will be mowing with me for many years to come!.

First off I have to say how amazed and excited I am that I was actually able to get this because from what I have heard, riding lawnmowers are very hard to get right now and this one specifically shows out of stock everywhere I’ve looked atleast locally to me.

I will start by saying this is my first riding lawnmower (Incase I get any of the terminology wrong or leave something out of this review that the pros think should have been included) and I wish I didn’t wait so long to get one because with the added speed and maneuverability of this mower I have reduced my cutting time significantly.

It has blown my mind how fast I can get my yard done now and the results are amazing, even my neighbors agree! I do not have any experience with the lap-bar zero turn mowers so I cannot compare this to those ones but I can tell you that this works just as good if not better than what I’ve seen in videos of that type of mower and actually better because it’s much easier using a steering wheel.

The ride on this ZTS1 is so smooth and comfortable to ride I can’t believe it. I always just assumed that most riding lawnmowers were uncomfortable and had a lot of shaking and rattling going on but I get none of that with this.

It feels to me that everything on this mower is made of high quality materials and just feels really solid when I am riding it. It also responds well to doing anything I try to do meaning when I want to go faster I push the pedal down and it goes, when I want to stop I let off the pedal and it stops, when I want to back up I stop and use the reverse pedal and it backs up.

I know you are thinking that it’s just doing what it’s supposed to do I’m just saying that it’s very responsive and quick to react to the things you want it to do. When I sit down in the seat it just feels great! All the controls are positioned perfectly and are easy to use like the steering wheel adjuster, the speed control adjuster that moves from choke to turtle and rabbit speeds, the parking brake and the deck height adjuster.

I also no longer have to ask my kids to go out and cut the grass, they volunteer to do it now! The only thing I am missing that I wish I had is a bagger for it!.

I wanted another Country Clipper like the one I bought in 2003 and gave to my Son 2 years ago. I could not justify its $9500 price tag! If Cub Cadet had parts to still build the ZTS model (steering wheel) I’d have bought one of those from the hardware store dealer that used to carry CC and who has provided good service through the years.

Bought this ZT1-50 for a reasonable price and it looks to be well built. My Son’s CC has a 19HP Kawasaki that is still going strong in its 19th season, so the 23HP Kawasaki influenced my decision for the ZT1.

Mowed for the first time today and have no issues with the quality of the cut or its lap bar steering. I AM going to have to trim all those low hanging branches I used to just push aside as I mowed. No free hand with lap bar steering – LOL.

BTW for $10 I’ve bought an inductive hour meter like the one I mounted in about ten minutes on my 2022 60HP Honda Marine outboard. And for $18 Cub Cadet is sending the deck wash fitting that I will also install.

People who care to provide good maintenance for their equipment should understand why Cub Cadet no longer installs parts that the majority of buyers simply ignore. For a reasonable price I also bought a replacement oil filter and air filter from them to put on my shelf.

Cub Cadet should, however, be ashamed of the quality of the Owner’s Manual and Replacement Parts List they provide for this machine! Printed on newsprint quality paper with several smudged sections. And they are filled with information with statements that it may, or may not, apply to the ZT1.

Come on people! You have reference to lubricating all grease points every 10 hours without listing or illustrating them (do they even exist)? They show a “break-in oil change” after 5 hours, while the Kawasaki Owner’s Manual makes no mention of any need.

They list the multi-tool functions to include using it as a “lockout for the deck lift” with absolutely no further reference to uses beyond 1/2 inch socket for lap bar adjustment or removal of deck floor.

And you list replacement parts without reference to which model they fit. Hopeful that this ZT1 last as long as the lawn tractor my father bought back in 2012.

I had been harping about the fact that I needed a new mower. I’ve got a 12-year old MTD rear-wheel drive push mower that I was beginning to tire of. I looked at an Ariens LM21 and got some pricing from my local dealer.

My Wife kept telling me that I didn’t need a new mower, causing me to protest. This went on for about two months. Imagine my surprise when she told me to buy a zero-turn instead! I immediately went into action, hoping she wouldn’t rescind the offer.

I did a lot of research online, looking at competitors to this unit. I kept coming back to Ariens, as the unit rated really well amongst owners. As a bonus, I have a dealer just a block away from me.

I wrestled with which size to get. I was originally going to go with the 34″, but liked the engine and wider cut of the 42″ better. After measuring around some of the obstacles on the property, I decided to go forth with the purchase of the 42″ I drove the unit home from the dealer since it is so close to home.

I have to tell you, I had no idea the steering was so sensitive on these units and if anybody was watching me on the drive home, they probably got a laugh on me. I spent about 15 minutes in the back yard, maneuvering forward and reverse and then it just clicked.

it almost became second nature and doesn’t require any thought once you get used to it. I have had the unit for a little over a month now and have mowed 5 times with it. It has taken the chore out of mowing and I complete in about 60% of the time that it was taking with the push mower.

The lawn looks great and the neighbors commented on how good my lawn looked after the first mow. I have added a SenDEC hour meter to mine, which was an easy install and I purchased a CheckMate lawn-striping roller, which is mounted to the rear frame.

I just dropped the mower off this evening to get the mulching kit installed. I’m really pleased with my purchase. The unit is comfortable to sit on and operate and it has made mowing fun. I’ve never minded mowing – in fact I enjoy it, but this unit makes me look forward to the next time out.

I’ve often told my family that I would love to start my own lawn business. If I ever do, I would certainly look at upgrading to a more commercial Ariens model to get my business off the ground.

I bought a Zoom 42 in June 2013 because it was narrow enough to mow around my many trees. I must say on a level lawn it is an amazing mower, very fast and easy to operate. However on a slight incline it is useless.

The tires have no traction and you slide sideways out of control without having a brake. The only way to stop is to pull both levers back which makes the wheels spin backwards and hopefully you are not going to slide into something.

I cannot mow the side ditches of my driveway with this machine. I have to mow them with my old tractor which totally has no problem with this slope. Another annoying thing is that the muffler is so close to the ground that it burns patches of grass at every turn or slow maneuver or god forbid stop on the lawn to do something else or run out of fuel for instance.

The thing is you only notice it 2 days later. I was ready to return the mower only to find out there is a 25% restocking charge so I fixed the problem myself by manufacturing a heat shield and bolting it to the rear bumper.

This is a huge design fault. The gas tank is also fairly small so you can mow for about 2 to 2-1/4 hours before running out of gas. There is no gas gauge visible from the seat so you have to keep track of your time to prevent running out of gas.

If the company addresses these issues and rectify them it is definitely a good little machine for a perfect level yard.

Main problem with bagger that I bought with unit. Chute did not fit properly and destroyed it on 1st running mower. Very hard time finding the proper one but finally did on ebay. Mower tracked crooked to start off with but got adjusted after a little while.

Learning curve to figure out how to drive without tearing up lawn. Mower works great, cuts evenly and quick. Looking forward to a long lasting quality mower.

My husband (Garry) has had a difficult time mowing our yard with the push mower. He has has a tough time breathing and we purchased this mower. It would have to take him 3 hours and lots of resting to mow the back yard.

With this Toro he mows it in about 30 minutes. This is a God send. He was just diagnosed today with a type of lung cancer. So I will be learning how to mow with this great machine as well. He has only mowed twice, but I do enjoy watching him mow with this machine!.

So my mower died at the beginning of the season. I looked at several online and compared features and reviews. The reviews seemed pretty good on this unit. Unfortunately TSC did not have one assembled, but it was the las one within a 60mile radius and my grass was literally 12″ tall so I had to buy it sight unseen.

I sure wish I had paid someone to cut my grass that week and did more shopping. Overall this is not a good mower. First off, the most important of any mower is the cut. It just simply does not cut well.

I have winter rye still which is a little harder to get a good cut on, but this mower requires at least 2 passes to make sure the grass is cut. Since I have. 7 acres, that is now 1. 5 acres that I need to cut each week since I have to do it twice.

The seat is very uncomfortable. The high back is nice, but the lumbar is so far back on it that I feel like I am in a hunched position. My back is killing me by the time I’m done cutting. The tires are absolutely horrible.

If there is any kind of moisture on the ground at all they just spin. If there is the slightest of angle of the yard then the rear end wants to slide the hill. Literally, not even enough dew left to clump grass, but it’s enough to make this mower slide on about a 10 degree angle.

It gets stuck super easy if the front wheels roll over a root or anything because the rear tires have no grip. Since it was put together in a few hours by a TSC employee, the handles do not line up. My drive handles have at least 1.

5″ in difference in all positions. Makes it very difficult to track straight. The front wheel hubs are not greaseable. Mine were squeaking day one. It started with one and now both squeak. Not having greaseable hubs means that I need to literally jack the mower up and remove the wheels to grease the front axles rather than just a few squirts of grease on a fitting.

The rear plate might as well be made of paper. I use my ZT to pull small trailers around the yard, and I use it to park my trailers because of the maneuverability. The flimsy rear plate on this thing would never hold any weight so now I have lost another yard tool and will have to figure out that option.

The deck has no mounts to add a striping kit. I like the fact that it’s fabricated deck, but they can’t add either holes or mounts to add a striping kit? There are also no belt covers so I am sure it’s only a matter of time before a stick get ran over and goes directly into the belt and messes something up.

This is all after only owning this unit for 3 weeks. I am sure I will grow to hate it even more over time. Granted I am coming off of a commercial mower, but it’s a 1996 model with a 22hp motor and it will still out perform this mower.

I would consider this a mower for the yuppy in the burbs with an acre completely flat lot that just wants to own a new mower and when he’s talking to his neighbor he can say, “Check out this Bad Boy”.

My yard is by no means complicated, but this mower makes it complicated.

I really like the mower so far, very sturdy quality construction with obvious attention to detail. Bad Boy has established quality and performance. It’s my first zero turn and with the 60″ deck the task of mowing my yard is much faster and quality of cut is best I’ve ever had.

The ability to easily clean and maintain the unit with the flip up floor pan and seat is crucial to me coming from a maintenance background. I chose the Kohler 7000 Pro series motor because I have had good service out of Kohler motors on my wood splitter, generator and Cub Kadet riding mower.

The hydraulic drive units (3100) are technically “commercial grade” and are serviceable with a filter on each drive unit, again important for me and longevity of the mower, I believe in preventative maintenance not “Run to Fail”.

Bad Boy extended the oil drain tube to just below the frame to make it easy to place a drain pan on the floor below the drain tube. The front suspension makes the ride very soft and helps in transition areas (bumps and elevation changes).

The reason for the 4 star rating instead of 5 is due to my discovery that the unit came with wrong size rear tires. The website info and my owners manual on the ZT Elite says I should have 22x11x10 tires but my unit has 22x10x10.

I contacted Bad Boy via web site contact page about 10 days ago and have not heard back yet (gonna try again). They haven’t answered the phone and the contact phone numbers are confusing. Another issue is that the owners manual states to make sure your dealer registers your unit to activate the warranty within 30 days.

Problem is Tractor Supply is evidently not a dealer and does not notify Bad Boy so if I get in touch with them I will ensure “registration”. Kinda not the norm as I’m used to going to the web site and Registering my unit serial number and all pertinent information.

Finally I want to say my local TSC is Great and provided fantastic curbside pickup, they are the “Best”! They had the proper oil and filter for my mowers first 8 hour recommended change.

I bought this for the pricepoint. my mistake. I will try and make this an in depth review; I have a 3. 4 acre lawn. mostly flat with a couple of ditches to mow. this is NOT my first zero turn. I’ve run walker, Exmark and Ferris products; in comparison to a 60” toro this Bad Boy is like riding a brick on wheels.

the seat has poor comfort, when my unit showed up the controls were so out of adjustment that the left side control would run into my body before it would back up. the hydraulics are extremely noisy and inconsistent.

how it acts on one turn will be the different on the next one. the blade balance is off. it vibrates so bad at some points that it makes my hands go numb. it is fairly quiet. it is NOT fuel efficient.

it holds about 6 gallons and it burns almost 2 gallons an hour. It does have good side hill traction. its control station has no adjustability and if you are over 5’7” or have longer arms it will be uncomfortable to use for extended periods of time.

it leaves behind an excellent cut, the overall construction is very tough and some portions of it look like it would be easy to work on, however in my opinion after putting 12 or so hours on mine is that it is NOT worth the money paid for it.

I wish i could have demo’d one before buying in because the machine has left a sour taste.

I bought this about a week ago as a dual purpose secondary mower/carryall. It mows well a really nice looking lawn afterwards and this should be expected being new blades and deck on the first couple mows.

My grass is mixed in the areas where it is mostly going to be used city grass ( st augustine, and such) will be great and batteries should last a good long time on this, however I decided to also try it on country grass which has a mix of bahaia and other grasses it did well on this but put a larger load on the mower and at times I slowed down to a crawl.

The larger load of course made additional drain on the battery. Our about 3 acres took about 3 charges with just a bit of the rougher areas left to do with our larger mower as it has air ride seat. I figured I could mow all the city grass and have plenty of power left for my dad to use it as his shop transport.

One thing to note the chargers draw a hefty amount so make sure they are on an unused circuit or on a large draw one so it does not kick out. Also the time should be about the same for this mower to our larger one since it is faster 60″ zero turn vs 42″ with a steering wheel.

Also when charging make sure to have the units in a well ventilated area as they put off some decent heat. Getting used to a steering wheel also slows me down a bit. I also would have loved an alarm for mowing in reverse rather than holding a button ,it cuts off if you release the button before coming to a complete stop.

I hope I answered all of the questions you may have cause these were the questions I had and maybe a few more:) OH and it is super quiet less noise than a good wet/dry vac! Only cons I can really have is that I wish it were available in 50 inch or so and the fact you have to remove the batteries to charge.

Another pro is the fact we do not have to change oil in the engine or add gas also worrying about the spindles for the blades is gone though I am sure sooner or later the motors will have to be changed.

I keep coming back to the top and adding things. I bought this mower at TSC.

This is an amazing piece of equipment, batteries charge super fast (I think initial charge from 1 light to all 4 lights took less than 45 minutes). I cut 1/4 acre in less than 30min. and battery was only down to 80%, I noticed if the blades are not engaged batteries don’t drain fast, my kids riding this for more than 1 hr for fun without engaging the blades and the battery level was still 90%.

I have Greenworks other tools and they are very reliable, I chose lawn tractor over zero turn after seeing review on Youtube from Tracktor Supply Co. , they’re pretty much build on the same platform but you get more run on tractor compared to zero turn version.

I also looked at Ryobi but they don’t come with Lithium Ion batteries, so Ryobi is inferior in many ways to this machine, and you’ll notice the difference in the second or third year, while this machine will keep running the same for at least next 5-10 years as the day you purchased.

I only had it for couple of days but it cut my yard work on my loan by 3/4 of the time. It usually takes me over 1hr on my John Deere D105 to cut front and 1hr back yard. With this mower I did in 15 minutes each side, I can’t believe how fast it can go, and speed makes difference, no more clumps of grass shooting from the underneath of the deck.

Even my 8 yr old can easily ride this and looking forward to leaving the mowing the lawn to my kids, they fight who will rider first. I do expect to get at least 5 year full power from batteries before they show some wear, from my experience with these batteries don’t leave them on the equipment or on the charger if not in use and keep them charged, so you’ll get more life out of them.

The best part the batteries are easily removable, it looks like the batteries are the only thing you would have to replace and maybe use grease on some parts to keep this running for very long time.

My first Toro Zero Turn was a Z4200 and I kept it for 12 years and never had any problem and I resold it used for a decent price. My lawn was less than a ½ acres at this time but when we built our new house, 2 years ago, the lawn became 2.

5 acres and I needed an upgrade. I went with the 50” because it fits in my utility trailer and it’s very convenient if I have to take it to the dealer for repair. I was targeting a slightly larger deck but discovered that the engine is more important than the deck.

With the 42” and the 19HP it had, if the grass is high you can not cut a full deck width as the engine suffers to keep up, so I end-up overlapping by ¼ to a ½. With the 50” and the 24. 5HP it’s a game changer.

If the grass is taller than it should be you can still cut the full deck width. This is the biggest time saver for me. I needed 30 mins to mow in the old house with a small yard that was square to less than 2 hours with the new yard that is not square at all.

The deck attachment has been improved and it’s much easier now to remove it, including the belt covers. I use 2 sets of blades so I have time to sharpen them between full deck clean-up that I do after spring (end of sticky grass) and end of the season.

I do all the maintenance myself and the oil change is easier now with the tube system. I was not asking for MyRide Suspension but the model available had it and I ended up liking this feature. It really makes the ride more comfortable.

After 2 years and 60 hours, there are 2 things that could be improved. The starter and clutch control are close to each other and I always pull on the starter when I want to engage the blades if I don’t look at it.

Switching position of these 2 controls could prevent that. The other thing is the grass deflector, as I don’t mulch and don’t bag, I use it. This part is way too long and rigid so you end-up breaking it very quickly.

I have seen other brands doing something with flexible rubber. Another solution could be a system to lift it when you come close to an object and it’s on the way. Overall very satisfied with this Zero-Turn and looking forward to many years of service.

I tried my neighbor’s Toro TimeCutter last year and realized it was time to change from a lawn tractor rider to a zero-turn mower. I visited my local dealer (Dombrowski) who sells Toro’s as well as other brands.

They asked me about my yard and recommended the Toro TimeCutter. Now I had to select from standard 50” model or the one with shock absorbing seat. It was not an easy decision but my yard is very bumpy and I went with the upgrade.

OMG…this mower makes me want to mow my yard at least twice a week. The steering took a few tries but it is easy. I’ve cut my mowing time by nearly 40% and let me tell you…the shock absorbing seat is amazing!!! For a 67 year old guy that was getting his back pounded on a lawn tracker, I am in Heaven with this machine and I feel good afterwards.

A friend who lives down the road complimented me the other day that my yard looks like a baseball field, all straight line! Love it! The quality of the product and cut is outstanding. I know I made the right decision!!! Thank you!.

Cuts nice and is very comfortable. However, it is not good on slopes over about 8 degrees. This is the reason for the 3 stars, everything else about this mower is 5 stars. The documentation on this mower says its safe up to 15 degrees and I disagree.

My yard slopes to about 12 degrees and the mower struggles to stay stable. It can go up the slope fine but will slide going down unless I go backwards. I can go across the slope very slowly, but it tears up the grass because it wants to slide sideways down the slope.

I put lug tires on it but it only helped a little. This mower is not safe on slopes over 8 degrees. Since the end of the slope in my yard is a road, I will need to switch back to tractor style mower.

I slide out onto the road once so thankfully no cars were coming by at the time. The main reason I purchased this mower was for the MyRIDE system, which is awesome. Unfortunately, I cannot return it since I used it.

I’ll need to mow about half an acre with a push mower until I can sell this one.

Comfort, reputation, reliability and a company that stands behind their products were my primary reasons for choosing the Titan. The seat is very comfortable, the mowing speed is great and Toro builds a quality machine.

As for the warranty is excellent and my dealership experience was much better than I could have ever expected. Since picking up the Titan, I have mowed our St. Augustine backyard a couple of times and our 4 acre bahia lot twice.

I felt the cut quality on the St. Augustine was a very good, clean cut. The bahia, comes out well, but takes a bit more effort if the grass hasn’t been mowed in several weeks. The mower doesn’t bog at all, but I do have to make a first pass at say, 5″ cut height, then back over it at 3.

5″ cut height in order to get my best cut. Overall, I am very happy with my choice to go with the Titan Max. The power is great, it’s a low maintenance mower, very heavy duty, comfortable and looks good.

If you are in the market for a great zero turn at a reasonable cost, you should consider the Titan Max.

Purchased the mower in March of 21. It had 24 hours on it and needed blades. The quality of steel used for them was low. When replacing them two of the blade bolts had seized in the spindle shafts. The spindle shaft are a bad design with no taper for the pulleys.

So when the factory put the blade on they ran the pulley nut down and stripped those threads as well. When I received the new spindle shafts I drilled holes in them for a spanner wrench so I wouldn’t have the same problems again.

And the blades I purchased are quieter then the factory ones. I mow about 4 acres. It was taking me about 2 1/2 with “old blades” the blades now take about 1 1/2. If anyone reads this be prepared for this.

The engineers dropped the ball on this. The rest of the mower is great. Strong engine and deck. Comfortable seat and controls.

My girlfriend finally helped me pull the trigger. We have 2 acres that I’ve turned into an orchard so with your conventional rider it was taking quite some time. So first time out little hesitant on what my capabilities would be.

Backing up turns out to be really tricky for me haven’t put enough hours on it. maybe have an hour and a half on it. With this being said there is no hour meter on the model (only 60in. Model) bummer.

So hour meter is on the way $100 later from my toro app available in the playstore. Also purchased the recycling/ mulching kit from from third party thru tractor supply co. Reason behind getting the recycler is because the chute is quite large and keeps you further away from objects tends to be in the way and forces you to make a lot of left turns so you weren’t blowing the grass everywhere you do not want it.

Also makes the mower more sleek and now right turn capable. The bagger was just to big and bulky so that was a no go. And the mulched tips is great for your lawn. Love the feel of the mower like I said I’ve only ran it for about an hour but after going around our berries and 20+ fruit trees it was a breeze I felt comfortable after about 10 minutes.

It seriously cut my mowing time in half. I loved it. The MYride suspension felt like I was in my rocker just jamming away on my 3m worktunes. Thus far I’m happy with my purchase and I would recommend if you are on the limb about going from a conventional rider to a zero turn make the jump.

IšverstiShow in original languageSave your money and get something better! less than 100 hrs and its breaking down. Needs new battery already and one of the throttle arms just free floats with no tension because one of their cast parts snapped.

Its a minimal stress part and it broke. Needs to be sent in for repair (they say). The blower guard is brittle plastic, turn to close to a tree or any obstruction and it doesn’t bend out of the way, it just snaps and cracks off, already on my 3rd one.

DOES NOT LIKE TO START! They don’t know how to tune their motors, you have to crank it over and over and over and over and over and over and over before it starts. I’ve had to adjust the carb multiple times but it doesn’t seem to like starting.

And probably the most frustrating part, is it gets 0 (ZERO) traction. Flat level ground and it will just spin a tire when trying to turn. If the grass is damp or you’re on the slightest of inclines, FORGET IT.

Save yourself some aggravation and a broken lawnmower in the first year by looking to higher quality.

IšverstiShow in original languageTires tend to slip even in dry grass. The gas tank is small at only 3 gallons but will do right around 1. 5 acres. Overall, this mower has a superior cut and the deck clean-out ports do work (follow the owners manual on their use).

Seat is very comfortable. The easy ride system helps with rough yards but will require you to adjust to how it works during your mowing sessions (you tend to feel like you’re swaying at first). I would buy this unit again but like I noted, a larger tank and better gripping tires would be something to keep in mind.

My previous mower was a 20+ year old ExMark, so this change came rather reluctantly. I’m not disappointed.

When doing the first oil change I broke the plastic piece inside the drain hose which was a problem getting out with needle nose pliers. The oil was still able to drain out but definitely obstructed the flow of oil draining from the engine.

For this reason I would forewarn anybody who changes the oil for the first be careful of how hard you pull on the black drain hose so as to avoid what happened to me. I honestly thought it was a great feature not needing any tools to do the oil change but I guess I was wrong.

The mower also has a hard time turning to the right almost like the right hydro pump is struggling to move the mower forward. I am looking online to see how to adjust this or to make sure there is not a problem with the hydro motor.

Overall I have used the mower to cut my 2. 5 acre property 4 times now and am happy with cut quality, but I sure wish the mower had a larger fuel tank as the three gallon tank I feel is undersized for a 60 inch mower.

GOOD LUCK USING THE WARRANTY! I took delivery of this mower in June of 2020. I loved it and got through the mowing season without incident. In November I cleaned it and put in in my barn. Out it came in April and during the first use of the season the belt broke, Tractor Supply was nice enough to give me a new belt.

I installed it. Please note that I did not depend on the warranty to have this done by the service repair center. I installed the belt myself. All was well for several cuttings then the belt came off.

Upon inspection there was a missing bolt and the spindle was loose. I got a new bolt from tractor supply and tightened the other bolts. Replaced the belt AGAIN. In June the belt broke once again. When I removed the deck cover I observed all four bolts were missing and and the threaded holes were stripped and enlarged in an oval shape making them useless.

I brought the mower to an authorized repair shop. TORO DENIED THE CLAIM. At no time was there an accident involving the mower. It never hit anything as can be seen by observing the deck itself. Why there has always been a problem with the mower deck is unknown to me at this time.

But I can tell you for certain that there has been a problem with it from very early on in it’s time of use. I don’t know the experience that other owners of this unit have had, but I’m sure the people at Toro have some data of problems that others have experienced with the 60″ deck.

To say that this problem is not caused by a manufacturing issue is ridiculous. No one has told me what could have happened to have these belt problems. When I purchased the mower I was assured it had a three year warranty.

In less than one year I began having belt problems. The result of these problems is an unusable mower. I am incurring expenses every week having to have a service cut my grass. This has not been a good purchase experience.

Toro has denied the warranty claim. The “authorized” repair center has told me it will cost more than $900 to repair.

I just bought my Toro a few weeks ago. I have used it 3 times. I hate mowing but that is because my JD X300 w/42″ deck takes so long. The first time I mowed, I mowed half my property like I usually do and it took me 1 hour and 8 minutes.

It usually takes about 3-4 hours with the JD. The next time I mowed I mowed our entire lot and it took just a little over 3 hours. It usually takes 5-6 hours. I am an older man with some health issues and sitting on a mower for that length of time just wears me out.

Sometimes I did not know if I was going to be able to get off my mower. With my new Toro, I’m no longer tired like that. It is comfortable and does the work in half the time or less. I have a JD tractor with a 60″ mower deck but I prefer my Toro and talk about a beautiful cut.

It looks so neat and even as if someone laid a huge sheet of glass on top of my lawn. I recommend Toro Zero Turns to everyone. I love my new Toro Timecutter.

I was the first person to buy the new EGO 52″ battery-powered mower at our local Ace Hardware store. Ace delivered it fully-assembled and ready to mow. My 16 acre farm property has about 3 acres of grassy areas and paths to mow.

For many years I’ve been using agricultural equipment, currently a 33 HP compact utility tractor pulling a 60″ flail mower. This rig can cut brush and very tall weeds as well as grass, but it is slow, hard to maneuver, loud, and challenging to maintain.

I wanted something more maneuverable, especially for around obstacles. I’d been considering ZTR mowers for years but waited for an EV model to meet my needs. This seemed like a more cost-effective way to do my bit for the environment than a pricey new EV truck or SUV.

So I was excited to learn about the new EGO 52″ model, which seems to be one of the few (maybe the only) battery-powered mowers with a fabricated deck this large and run times up to 4 hours (unless you get into one of the few, very expensive commercial EV models.

) Although this EGO mower probably is best suited to fairly level and smooth suburban lawns, in my opinion it also has potential for agricultural operations such as vineyards and orchards. It seems to be a good fit for my property (although it isn’t quite up to handling ditches, embankments, or heavily overgrown areas).

If you’ve decided a battery-powered “residential” ZTR is for you, then in my opinion, the EGO 52″ should be high on your list. That 52″ capacity and fabricated deck sets it apart from many of the residential EV alternatives.

Another great thing about EGO mowers is that the same batteries can be used all across their product line (in trimmers, blowers, etc. ) They can even be used in the EGO Nexus 3000 watt portable power station, which you can buy without batteries (in case you decide the ones in the mower are enough).

Unlike gas generators, the EGO power station can be operated indoors (assuming you’ve been careful to keep your batteries charged when power goes out). I’ve only mowed a few times with this machine. First impressions are very favorable for ease-of-use, cut quality, maneuverability, and build quality.

It is quiet yet very powerful too. The seat is very comfortable but the frame does not have a real suspension system (nothing like the optional “flex forks” that Hustler sells). So it’s a bit bumpy over rough terrain.

As is typical of many residential ZTRs, there is no ROPS bar. If you’ve never driven a ZTR mower, another potential safety issue is stopping the thing. You have to train yourself to pull pack on both levers to stop (like pulling in the reigns of a horse).

This was harder for me to get the hang of than the steering. In quite a few attempts, I was unable to get the iPhone app to pair with the machine over Bluetooth. This is necessary for firmware downloads.

Fortunately, a “Help?” label with a phone number is printed all over the manual, packaging, etc. I got through to the Help line pretty quickly, the assistant evidently was a native speaker of English, and EGO resolved the problem.

Another issue was that the control levers needed calibrating (because as delivered, it tended to pull a little to one side). The manual clearly explained a simple calibration procedure for this. The big question mark for me, going forward, is the quality and dependability of after-market service/support.

EGO has built an impressive retail sales network in the USA, and the Help line seems to be good. However, they may not have as extensive a network for local mechanical support, as some competitors (like Stihl and Hustler) do.

But then, AFAIK, the competition does not offer anything quite like this product.

Been using Toro ZTRs (42- and 50-inch) since 2005. Our place (3. 5 acres) requires mowing about once a week from May-Oct. I use a self-propelled Toro (22 inch) push mower for some steep areas. Physically, I am 6’3″ and weigh 220 pounds.

(I should note that I am a former helicopter pilot, and ZTRs are the closest I can come on the land to that experience. ) Toro ZTRs use belts, and we have a lot of trees (viz. twigs and gumballs) that periodically would dislodge the belts on the Toros, both blade and drive which led to downtime–sometimes for over a week.

The engines are loud (85dB) and kicked-up substantial amounts of dust so that I would need to wear a dust mask. Have been shopping for an EV for a couple of years, mainly because of the belt issues. Gravely was too expensive, and other makers’ models had questionable ability to climb inclines.

Other ZTRs are in development. One criteria I had is the width (with the chute-raised) had to fit through the opening in the mower shed. Lowes delivered the mower at the end of May, 2022 so I have mowed the entire area.

I could not get it to operate after charging so I went to the troubleshooting section in the manual and deduced that the seat safety switch was not connected. I removed the seat and reconnected the plug, and it operated properly.

It takes a couple of full charges to complete the mowing, which is similar to the refueling I had with the Toros. I am quite happy with the EGO because it is very quiet (75dB) and (so far) does not seem affected by the small twigs and gumballs.

Overall, the handling is precise, but I don’t think the EGO holds mowing on inclines as well as the heavier Toro. In the rougher parts of the yard, the deck tends to rattle excessively when bouncing (I mow at the lowest speed; though, it is speedy).

I did have an interesting situation that I backed-up while mowing and got raised up on a smooth rock wall so that the mower’s rear wheels would not propel. I had to remove the batteries (as per the operating manual) so that I could dislodge it from the rock.

The 4 acres of mowing on one charge must be for absolutely perfect, flat, treeless, dry, short-grass conditions. We’ve had our mower for about a month and mowed our grass ( about 2 1/2 acres of thick, fast growing grass that is getting a lot of sun, heat, and rain in June in Pennsylvania) 4 times, and the best I’ve done is about 130% worth of charge.

There is definately a sweet spot combo between mower speed and blade speed. Mowing thick grass with the blades on speed 4 takes a lot more power. The electric drive motors on the wheels are also MUCH more responsive than the old trannsmissions on our gas powered zero turn, which makes for a little bit of a jerky ride that takes some practice getting used to, so we’ve been using the control mode and not the standard mode and not even thinking about the sport mode (what’s that for anyway, lawn mower racing?) The mower is surprisingly fast, and has a lot more power than expected.

It does a great job cutting grass, although, like I said, when you cut the taller, heavier grass you need to use higher blade speeds, which really suck the battery power. On the other hand, charge speed is fast – 4 hours will charge the mower from 2% to 100%, with charging going much faster when the batteries are low, then slowing down as they get closer and closer to full capacity.

Mower deck design seems to accumulate a lot of cut grass that the deck wash doesn’t clean out. It’s weird being able to just get on the mower and go – no checking gas or oil, or greasing the spindles, or worrying about belts etc.

The quiet is great too. I still put in ear plugs when the blades are turning, but I’m not sure if you have to or not.

My lawn has quite steep slopes +/- 20% in places and several tricky spots to get around and in and out of. I had used a Snapper ride on for the first two years, it was fine the 1st year but started losing drive and traction in the 2nd year culminating in a rather painful turnover.

So having read up a lot about mowing on hills I decided to purchase a stand on mower with a walk-behind feature. This would have worked fine I am sure but the drive/steering functions are not really meant for your resident weekend warrior.

Fine if you are a commercial guy using it every day it becomes second nature. For me it was like a trial and (mostly) error every time I took the stand on out. Honestly, it scared the you know what out of me every time, it was a heavy machine, 900 lbs or so.

Crazy. Then I happened to read about this Cub Cadet zero turn with a steering wheel. It was the first literature that featured mowing safely up to 20% slopes. So I sold the stand on and purchased the Cub Cadet.

Having used it now more than 10 times, I am totally impressed with this machine. It is powerful, fast and yes it will very safely mow 20% slopes. It is very easy to use and now I actually look forward to mowing my lawn.

Especially because it takes probably half the time as before. Very good clean cut too. Bonus is the CC is so maneuverable that I can now use it to mow a fairly large area that I could not before, which I used a smaller walk behind.

Saves me a lot of sweat and twisted ankles in the hot summertime. Summary: totally 100% satisfied with this mower. It safely, comfortably and efficiently mows hills as advertised. Just a great all round mower.
