13 Best 48V Golf Cart Charger (2022 Updated)

Installed MODZ Max48 as an on board charger in my 2004 Lido which is built on an EZGO TXT chassis. Chose the MODZ because of it’s small size, durable construction, trickle charging and plug and forget capablility.

It did not disappoint. Also the various status lights are a great feature that I did not realize it had until I got it. Hard wiring the charger just involves cutting the output cord to length, installing appropriate connectors and connecting the wires to the charging terminals.

Just look for the terminals your existing charging connector connects to. Now I can charge my cart not only in by garage, but anywhere there is an available 120V outlet. I can loan it to my kids or friends with having to worry about lugging along a 40 lb charger and it being used properly.

And I can leave it plugged in all off season as the MODZ has the trickle charging feature. If it has a down side it is that the cooling fan makes a little noise when the unit is actively charging but not when it is trickle charging or idling.

I purchased this charger on recommendation of my golf cart repair company. This is all he said it would be and more! I had purchased a used golf cart and as I am a snow bird when I arrived back in Florida the following year, the company I had purchased it from had gone out of business – now I see why.

The charger would not turn on and I found that the on board computer had been removed from the golf cart and thus was unable to turn the charger on, nor would it sense when the batteries were charged and turn off.

I temporarily jumped around the circuit that tells the charger to turn on when the batteries are low but I as only able to charge the batteries for limited amounts of time to avoid overcharging. This charger replaces that missing on board computer with an internal circuit that not only cuts back as the batteries begin to get charged, it will turn on again and build the charge up periodically during the time I am not in Florida.

The indicator lights let me know the state of the batteries when charging and is a much physically smaller, lighter charger.

nice charger, very light and compact, does not over heat the batts like the oem charger, the flashing light colors are very confusing if you dont understand how its working. but to make it easy to understand just know that when batts are more than 80% charged it goes to yellow then full green and charger turns off when complete.

it does charge around the obc unit if it goes bad on your club car, if you dont take the obc out of the charging system, thats why the cunfusion with the flashing lights. good charger highly recomend this and im a custom builder of golf carts.

Short term use so I’m still evaluating this charger. It doesn’t seem to provide the deed charge as the OEM model,but no problem completing 18 holes+ to/from course & home with two heavy guys. Small,compact and quiet.

Works great with my Yamaha golf cart. I was worried after my cart was sitting not being used for over a year. After an overnight charge it started up!

I have used the MODZ Max48 Charger for 1 month now. My batteries are much happier. No more overheating, no worries about leaving my golf cart plugged in for too long. The automatic controls make it such easier to enjoy my golf cart and it has helped reduced my electric bill.

I was looking for a 48 volt two wire charger. I bought this charger because we have a lot of different style chargers around and getting the right cart to the right charger is a pain. I wanted a charger that I could install onboard so that whenever i need a cart to charge i could just plug the charger into a 120 volt outlet.

This charger was able to do that. After it arrived, i cut the low volt plug off and crimped ring terminals onto the two wires. I then bolted the wires directly to the correct batteries for positive and negative.

I mounted the charger into the trunk of the golf cart and just like that, I had an onboard charger that I can plug in anywhere.

Bought the 48 volt version for my 2 golf carts. These are performing flawlesly in the cold Michigan weather. My only regret is that I didn’t buy them years ago. These are great maintainers. I highly recommend these maintainers and Battery Mart!.

This unit seems really well built and runs very quietly, even with the on board cooling fan running. That is a nice feature to keep the heat down on the electronics. Charges like it should. Only had it for one month, but like it better than old model PowerWise QE that usually needed replaced every 2 years.

Hoping for better durability on this model.

The first MODZ charger I received was tested and found faulty. I notified GOLF CART KING and they authorized the return and emailed a return shipping label within five minutes. A day later I called GCK and asked when the replacement would be shipped.

“Already shipped. ” was their reply. Amazing isn’t it. All at no cost. Being able to handle a problem extremely well with little hassle should be and is commended. This company is refreshing! Although I’ve only had the replacement charger for a couple of months, it works as advertised.

Saved me approximately 300 bucks compared to a quote for another charger received locally.

This charger is great! Works great on batteries that sit a lot; keeps them from sulfating. Make sure the water levels are always good.

I purchased this charger to have a more reliable, safer, and easier way to charge my EZGO Marathon. I have only used it for a couple drive and so far it has been easier, the only downfall is it is still overcharging my batteries.

Every time I have used it the next time there has been acid spots on the concrete.

Charger works as described! It doesn’t charge as fast as a Lester charger but it does charge quickly and efficiently for a 15 amp charger and you can leave it plugged up. Good value for the price! Highly reccomended.

You guys sent me a used charger, when I paid for a brand new one very disappointed. You guys didn’t even comp me for your error.

The antique Original Equipment charger that I got when I bought my 2003 Club Car DS a year and a half ago was heavy and clunky, but it worked. Until last fall, that is. Rather than spend money and effort repairing a very old and clearly beaten up charger, I elected to put the money towards a new one.

I am glad I did. This ModzMax36 is compact, quiet and modern – it “talks” to the batteries before starting a charge cycle and then does the charging job in the best way for the current state of the batteries.

Plus, it functions as a battery maintainer for long term storage! Waaaayyyy better than my old OEM charger! The icing on the cake was that they were having a promotion so I saved a few dollars. It seems to be very nicely constructed, a quality piece.

This charger replaced my original charger. The difference between the two chargers is remarkable. The old charger is heavy and big, Charges quickly, but probably too quickly for the long term use of golf cart batteries.

In fact, lucky to get 5 years out of them with limited summer use. Winter they discharge. The NEW CHARGER charges at 15 amp and trickle charges when left connected to golf cart. Should make batteries last longer and should allow for slow charging over winter to prevent discharge.

The cost of this charger is also substantial less that an original replacement would be. Now I have two chargers.

Great charger as advertised. Im only giving it 4 stars because I can tell that the charger was used. I paid the price for a new unit. The charger it self is working just fine. Im sure it is the best on the market at this time.

I dont have photos of the paint and putty that is on the charger as I received it. The repackaging was horrible, like it was received and shipped back out. Shipping was fast.

After my Power Wise started blinking the 2 slow red blinks with nothing wrong with batteries, connections, etc, as reported my many people with said charger I ran across this charger. Boy am I glad I did.

After downloading the Google Ap, doing some reading and getting familiar with how it is programed it worked like a champ. After first plugging in the battery charge level on the AP on my phone said the batteries were low and would take about 1,000 hours to charge.

All false, assume it was just the charger taking time to collect all the info it needed. Hours quickly started going down and the next morning yellow light was on indicating full charge with my Trojan batteries.

Cart appears to also have more power/charge now than before. Only issue is the 3 prong cart cable isn’t as long as the Power Wise cable. Think this one is 9 feet and the Power Wise @ 15 feet at a guess.

Saw in a review you can get a 12 foot cable for this but not listed anywhere, would have to call tech support, which I did and they are way too expensive. So, the nice tech support at Lester Electronics when asked stated there is no problem, voltage drop, etc.

for putting the longer Power Wise 3 prong cable on replacing the one that came with it, which I am going to do. This charger doesn’t have Wi-FI which I wish it did so I can check on it when I am away for months, it is just Bluetooth for programming from your phone/ipad when at the charger.

I does have the autocharge feature when voltage drops if detected after 10 days on the charger. A needed option for preventing the batteries from dropping voltage too low and possibly freezing in the winter.

The charger allows for months of inactivity such as for just seasonal user of their carts. Recommend this charger very highly after doing a lot of homework and going to the Lester Electronics website and reading about the company and products.

I purchased through the Golfcart Gargage that would indicate they know what a good charger is through a lot of experience. They will be my go-to in the future for sure!.

The Summit ll charger is quite a piece of rugged electronics deserving to be onboard a nuclear submarine or the Space Shuttle. Be forewarned, however, that it is not a Plug And Play unit. It arrives in one of the most well thought out packages ever devised.

But there are no instructions or owner’s manual inside. The owner’s manual and the manual for the Charger Connect App must be downloaded online and printed unless you can read fine print on your phone.

The power cord and charger hook up cord are included, but must be installed on the charger unit by the owner. Do you have a torque wrench that reads in inch-pounds? After the app is downloaded onto your phone.

You must determine the battery system you have and program the charger. Once the Charger Connect App talks with the charger, you are ready to plug it in the wall outlet and watch it do it’s magic. Do plan for a few hours or more to go from opening the rugged shipping box to listening to batteries bubble.

I recommend the Summit ll and have used it to fully charge those 4 big batteries about 6 times so far. I also like the four year warranty. Apparently, the manufacturer made a unit that is even more rugged than it looks.

I look forward to many years of service from the Summit ll.

Cables were not wired to the charger. Owners manual not included. Charger will not connect to ChargerConnect apt. so profile can be change to allow vehicle lockout. Charger seems to charge battery pack OK.

Lockout should have been done before shipping to customer. This charger is too complicated for most users.

Works great. They threw in an extra fuse clip, which came in handy because the yellow fuse holder that connects to cart wiring had the same end as the cart wiring. So, I had to cut the other fuse clip off, change the yellow fuse holder to the correct end, strip the wire and attach the extra fuse clip.

Whole replacement job took about 20 minutes, 10 of which was messing with the fuse holder.

This part works great with major modifications to thru wall mounting hole. Unit had several differences from my current plug. Mainly the fusing kit addition. I fabricated a 5″x5″ x1-12″ thick box to mount to wall so unit will stick out 1-1/2 in thus eliminating battery interference.

Everything else on this old cart has been modified to fit, etc.

Easy instal. Except after instal charger would not come on. Everything was wired correctly. I learned through the charger manual that the computer needed to be reset. Easily done, plug in charger to cart, unplug charger from power for at least 20 seconds.

Plug it back in (all while charger is plugged into cart) to the wall and 15 seconds later it’s charging.

This is a great charger at a very good price from Golf Cart Garage. It arrived quickly,; there was one cable to install and it was up and running. I bought this charger based on all the positive reviews and I am not disappointed.

Once charged, this charger then acts as a maintainer so you do not have to worry about the battery staying charged during periods of non use. This is not the least expensive charger available nor is the most expensive but you usually get what you pay for and after using it I consider this charger a bargain.

This new charger is something else. I was worried about all the bluetooth stuff as I am 60+ and not real good with that stuff. But setting it up was easy, just plug in and it took right off set itself to the 36 volts and charged good.

As far as the bluetooth all I had to do is down load the app and it done the rest. Only thing is I would like to know what the state the batteries are in when I first plug them in. It shows 0% charged when you first plug them in.

Is there an amount of time you have to wait before it reads the batteries before it shows that and is there away you can check on it from home. I have it out at the club in a metal shed. Any help would be wonderful.
