20 Best 49 Inch Ultrawide Monitor (2022 Updated)

I have had this monitor for a few months now, and would rate it a 5 star, were it not for a few baffling design/techincal decisions, and its hideausly high price tag. 1. USB Hub/KVM is not shared across HDMI or DP ports – absolutely Baffling!!! Monitor requires an urgent software update to support this.

2. The joystick control is great, however it is on the back left hand side, which makes accessing it a pain, especially if you are short limbed, or in my case have speakers at the side of the monitor – would be much better placed botom centre, or very slightly offset from the the bottom middle.

3. There is only one USB-C port – I have to use an external USB VKM to connect my laptops – Add more USB-C slots 4. When USB-C input is selected (changed) on the (external) KVM, it drops connection to all connected USB devices, which means that when I go to log on to another device, windows Hello on the montor connected USB-C webcam does not connect properly to the external device.

I really, really want to stress that this monitor is fantastic in *just about* every way. I use it 8 hours a day, five days a week for work, and it has changed my workflow, definitely for the better.

It sounds odd, but not thinking about which “screen” a certain piece of information might be on sped me up, having come from using two 27-inch monitors. What really let me down was LGs commitment to customer service.

I order it in April of 2019, immediately after it came out, and it worked flawlessly for about 9 months. However, it then started experiencing intermittent power failure, where my monitor would sporadically turn on and off – and sometimes refuse to turn on altogether.

That was a huge issue, as it’s my only monitor for work. LG Support was reasonable enough to hook me up with an authorized LG repair shop, as they had no factory repair centers near me. They concluded that there was an issue with the power supply, and opted to replace the board for me – under warranty – for no cost.

That’s the end of it, right? Everything was working correctly until I noticed a couple of days ago that my monitor is having trouble recognizing/waking up when prompted with an active display port (DP) signal.

I used the LG provided 5K DP cable, and another high-quality cable, but neither can reliably wake the display to the correct input, requiring me to manually select the DP version. Suffice it to say, it’s been a somewhat frustrating ownership experience.

It’s really, really tough for me to recommend this product based on my personal experience. I want to love this monitor – but I can’t do much more than like it if LG isn’t going to stand behind their products.

Good monitor panel, good screen estate. But USB-C connection insufficient. You want to buy a monitor which you connect by one cable and which keeps clutter off your table. This is not possible with this monitor, unless you connect peripherals to your computer and not to your monitor: The USB-C connection allows only for 5Gbit, so if you connect for 5120×1440, your peripherals can only connect with 480mbit.

A Gigabit Ethernet connector connected to the USB of the monitor will only result in 300 mbit instead of 1000 Mbit. Technical service confirmed that the bandwidth of the USB-C connection is insufficient to handle higher speeds of peripherals connected to the monitor.

If you want the USB connections of the monitor to work with USB 3. 0 speed, you need to connect a second cable – so the dream of the one cable connection is already over. If you connect with DisplayPort and USB-C at least an Apple shows you two monitors where is only one, but does not give you USB 3.

0 speed. Technical support has not yet managed to clarify what needs to be done to get USB 3. 0 speed to the monitor USB connectors.

I’m a huge fan of Samsung 49″ ultra-wide monitors. I was an early adopter for their first generation and have purchased 2 others since before this one. This is an equivalent to two 27″ monitors side by side without the bezel between.

I had been using multiple monitors for years before switching to a single ultra-wide which as the first gen Samsung which had a 3840 x 1080 at 144Hz display. So it’s a big improvement with the Neo G9 having 5120 x 1440 resolution at 240Hz.

If you are a gamer, first and foremost, the curved screen ratio had been improved from the first gen monitor making a tighter radius with greater peripheral view resulting in a more immersive feel during game play.

It also has Freesync and G-Sync which when enabled in the game video options helps prevent what they call screen tearing which results in smoother play. A few things changed from previous Samsung 49″ ultra-wide models besides performance, resolution and refresh rate.

The inputs went from a DisplayPort and mini DisplayPort and one HDMI to only one DisplayPort and two HDMI ports. If you are only hooking up to a single computer you have the standard options and I suppose with the additional HDMI port it’s easier to connect consoles or another computer.

I actually use the one DisplayPort from my main home use/gaming rig and one of the HDMI ports hooked up to my work laptop when I do work from home. Using PIP (picture in picture mode) the monitor will allow you to set up side by side displays from two different inputs so basically having two independent 27″ monitors.

I really like that feature!!!! As for as NITS and all that other good stuff. I don’t know anything about that because I’m not a graphics artist or content creator but I imagine true colors and color brightness are a huge attraction as this monitor does deliver.

It sports a classy clean look. The gloss white really goes with my home desk setup and white PC case. Yeah, it’s a lot of plastic but it’s well done. I only experience one issue from time to time. When playing New World and I ALT-TAB to another window to quickly check email the display will come back almost blacked out but a dull image.

like looking through a black cloud and you can’t make out the image. To correct this I have to unplug the monitor and plug it back in. I think it has something to do with HDR being enabled so I disabled in the game menu and haven’t had a problem since.

I do understand there were earlier problems with HDR but a firmware patch corrected the issue. I checked and I have the current firmware so for now I can live with HDR off when I play. I’ve seen mixed reviews on this monitor and I will admit that the price point is pretty high so it’s not for everyone.

If you are content creator, streamer or graphics artist then you can probably justify the $2500 price tag. For a gaming solution. I’ll leave it up to you if you think it’s worth it. There are a ton of preformance reviews on Youtube so I didn’t delve into all those stats and numbers but attacked this review as a pure gamer.

I usually am on the bleeding edge of technology and willing to pay extra for things that I know I will get a lot of use out of. I love this monitor and paired with my new Alder Lake gaming rig with a RTX3080Ti it’s an amazing addition to my overall gaming setup.

I would have given this 5 stars if the price was say at the $2K or less. But if price is not an issue then I can’t recommend this enough.

This is the best monitor for gaming and productivity I’ve ever used. If you’ve got the scratch and want top of line go for it! Add some hue play or gradient strip lights to the setup and it’s one of the most jaw dropping immersive experiences I’ve ever seen.

I don’t often leave reviews but when I do it’s for products that have blown my mind or left me feeling robbed. Fortunately this monitor falls in the mind blown category and I can honestly say I would have paid retail value for it and still felt like I got my moneys worth.

Lots of reviews say this monitor is trash or has build quality issues which made me hold off on buying the monitor when it was released. I guess the reviewer world is full of trolls or people who nit pick at small details that overshadow the major positives of what this monitor offers.

Contrary to the negative reviews I have not encountered any dead pixel issues or crackle popping from the panel shifting as it heats up during use. Maybe I got lucky but I have not encountered these commonly reported issues.

If you’re a gamer you’re gonna love this monitor. Super immersive for all the games I’ve played (it’s like wearing a VR headset), lightning fast response time, and the mini led thing is not a gimmick the blacks on this monitor are the best I’ve seen on a non-oled tv.

Keep in mind, there are some games that do not support 32:9 but it’s only a matter of time before more titles start hopping on the bandwagon, I’ve even heard rumors ps5 will start supporting it which will make this monitors value instantly improve.

The curve took some time to adjust to but once you find that sweet spot for viewing and seating distance you’re gonna love every inch of this behemoth for long hrs of gaming. If you work from home this monitor far out beats a dual monitor setup.

I went from a 38inch lg with a horizontal 27inch side monitor and feel less strained at the end of the day when I’m working with multiple windows open. I can now center my main window in front of my face while having outlook and slack open on each side and not feel like I constantly have to turn my head or re-configure windows to manage real-time communication or email while I’m working.

The stand is actually very good for an out-of-the box setup. It does take up quite a bit of space and I will be getting a monitor arm to reclaim the area under the monitor to make the set up look clean.

Keep in mind you will need a lot of desk space for this monitor as the curve pulls the sides of the monitor in so measure your desk space before you install it. If I were to nitpick I would ask for built in speakers, an extra inch or two for screen height, already updated firmware or a way to plug my computer into the USB port to directly update it, and a thank you card from Samsung saying thank you for believing in our products you’re the bestest.

Treat yourself or someone who’s socks you want knocked off to this amazing marvel of modern monitor!.

This monitor does it all. It’s perfect for being able to play all of my consoles and multitask. Optimal for watching videos and movies, playing games (both competitive and cinematic), and productivity.

I’m able to stretch the timeline for music/editing software and fit more on the screen. HDR is stunning, and multifunctional. As consoles and PC support for HDR grows I find more of my library being accessible and exciting to experience with high quality.

PBP is very nice for being able to play a console and monitor a stream, or watch videos or walkthroughs, etc. No compromises experience. High refresh rate, high resolution, and a very bright and beautiful visual range that helps you fully experience a detailed scene without getting washed out or blurry picture quality.

G-sync/Free-sync support even adds more to that no compromises experience as it lets you reduce screen tearing without adding latency. The monitor itself has a very good build quality as well. The design isn’t distracting and has accents that don’t feel out of place in most setups.

The back light is customizable and looks very cool. The I/O is also very functional. I find it supports just about any device I’d use with little to no difficulty. The only thing that it leaves to be desired is more local dimming zones to make the HDR a bit more involved which is solved by the succeeding model the Neo G9.

Any other deficiencies are due to other technology being behind (HDCP and HDR in particular. ).

I bought this monitor for flight and racing simulation. It has definitely enhanced the experiences for both simulators. In racing, I can now see further into corners without having to change the viewpoint.

As far as emersion goes, it’s nice to be able to see the driver’s side and rear view mirrors at the same time. Depending on the vehicle, sometimes you can see both side mirrors, which feels nice to me.

It’s use for flight simulation is even more pronounced. Situation awareness doubles with half the movements. Immediately, taxiing and landing become easier because of the side references. It’s also easier to track gauges during these operations because of less viewpoint changes.

Of course, looking out of the window on VFR flights is stunning. It is also a great monitor for having multiple pages open. I can have 4 pages of notes open simultaneously with no problem. I did have to adjust the font size for this type of operation, but once adjusted, everything is great.

Here’s why the monitor looses a star. When you are looking around (changing the viewpoint) in flight simulation, the outer quarters to thirds of screen will begin to distort and elongate. It’s usually not that bad, but I thought it is worth mentioning.

Really 4-1/2 or 4-3/4 stars is more accurate for this monitor.

I have enjoyed having this monitor as my only monitor for gaming and daily computer use. There has been many firmware updates, each improving bugs one at a time. There should have been maybe four updates since this monitor came out, each containing more fixes and features, but they haven’t.

It updates randomly and I need to check reddit to find out, or go through many hoops to find it on Samsungs site. To update the firmware, you have to pull the monitor out, pop the cover off, and then connect a USB formatted a specific way in order to update the monitor.

If they are going to continue updating this to address the bugs that still exist, they should have a way for you do it over the USB hub. I got this in December of 2020 from Amazon for $1100 new. That is the very max I would recommend paying for this monitor.

Other than the annoying firmware updates, the random flickering that occurs with multiple windows and opening certain games makes it feel like you are paying to test the product for them. I will end on a good note and say this monitor works great with PS5 and PC with PS5 on HDMI and PC on DP with it split 50/50 and looks great too.

I bought the 43. 3 version to replace my 2x 32 monitors as they were giving me neck ache moving my head from side to side all the time. Now this doesnt offer the same real estate as they did, and I would say this is more like having 2x 27 1080p monitors next to each other without the middle bezels.

I will try to split out the review into a few subheadings, Office, Gaming, Functions e. g. the inbuilt KVM. Overall TLDRThis is a fantastic screen for the money, yes it does have some limitation like no GSync etc for gaming but as an office tool it is perfect.

It removes the need for multiple monitors and also gives you the huge benefit of having one giant screen which is wide, crisp and clear. I dont video photo edit so couldnt comment on the colours etc but in games and in the office environment it is spot on.

I can use it all day and then play a few hours in the evening with no eye strain or tiredness. Yes, it is an investment but if you have the funds and spend long days in front of a monitor with multiple programs open this is spot on.

Office WorkI bought this screen mainly to work on with some mediumlight gaming in the evenings will review further down. This screen allows me to easily have 2x Office documents open or other programs.

You can actually split this in to 4 areas TL, BL, TR, BR but with the screen being only 1200px high having 4 windows open is a bit of a push, I think after a week I have only done that once. I mainly use this screen for project work and it certainly helps there with being 3840px wide.

I can have MS Projects open and see pretty much most of the GANTT chart without having to zoom out or scroll along. It also is a benefit in MS Excel as again I dont need to zoom out making the text tiny or have to endlessly scroll along the columns.

When doing Dev work, I can comfortably have multiple screens open and all within eye shot or a slight head movement. It is a perfect office screenGaming mainly FPSOut of the box this screen defaults to 60hz and you have to manually set it to run at the 120hz though the Advanced display settings Display adapter properties in Windows 10.

Once you have done this you will be able to set your games to run at 120hz. You need a fairly beefy graphics card to get the best out of this at high resolutions and I also had to reduce my field of view from the normal 100 back down to 90 as it made seeing peoples heads nearly impossible due to the physical width.

The width of the screen certainly helps with feeling more immersed and the slight curve keeps everything in sight and again helps with not having to move your head around. The colours are good and the 120hz stops any blurring or tearing when you are flicking from side to side and running through the game.

I had to adjust the sensitivity on my mouse as well to accommodate the extra pixel width and relearn flicking and aiming, this took about a week as a casual gamer. Setup and EquipmentI have mentioned you need to manually set the screen to run at 120hz in Windows as it doesnt out of the box.

This is a big screen and it is also very deep My desk is only 60D x 120W so I had to pull my desk out by about 6 inches so that I didnt feel like my nose was pushed up again the panel The stand is about 10 inches deep from front to back and about 40 inches wide but has 2 legs that splay out to the front which are narrow and it has the illusion of not taking up much space on your desk.

The height, tilt and rotation on the screen are very good and being around 511 I can easily set the top of the screen in line with my eyes with about an inch of further height still available. The screen has a matt finish, but you will still get some glare if you have a window behind you during bright days.

During gaming I have on occasion had to pull the curtains to try and reduce this but only when the sun was low in the sky. Cables and KVMThe rear panel has a cover and it basically runs from end to end of the panel, you pop this off and all the slots are available.

It does have a cable tidy built into the monitor arm but because this screen is up against my wall I could not use it as it would pinch the cables as they come out at the back of the arm. There is plenty of gap between the slots and the bottom of the area so you shouldnt have too many problems getting everything in.

The cables then run along inside and out in the centre through a whole. When putting the rear panel cover back on, I found it easier to do it one side at a time, line up the bottom holes first and then the top section pops in nicely.

It is not overly fiddly but dont rush it. I run a home PC and a work laptop through the screen, PC is via DP and laptop is via USBC. My keyboard and mouse are also plugged in to the screen so I can switch between the two easily so I dont have to unplug etc.

I havent noticed any lag running them through the screen even whilst gaming. Speakers are OK but mainly treble, I use them on video calls as I find you dont get as much feedback with the lack of bass and it provides a clear and crisp tone for peoples voices.

KVM for me this is fairly pointless as I have no requirement for it, I have tested it and because the screen allows Picture in Picture and Picture in Box you could have two devices hooked up side by side or one in a small box at the edge of the screen say as a streamer.

To switch the keyboard and mouse over you click a button at the bottom of the monitor and there is about a 5 second lag. Not the end of the world if you were working long periods on either devices and only switching every so often but as its not instant could be a pain if you needed fast switching.

Menu is limited and you do need to read the manual in order to navigate through it but the 3 main functions source, KVM, PIP PIB are within easy reach and are a solid button to find and click.

I really wanted to like this monitorNegativesEasy settings box. Probably the worst display software out there. I know there are alternatives like display fusion, but that comes at a cost. If Samsung want to sell such a premium piece of hardware, they should have the software to support it.

The KVM only allows one source requires USB port to power from source device, so you cant easily switch between 2 machines like it claims. The dell equivalent you can. Switching between devices just input hdmi gt DP or vice versa just didnt work.

This always failed to switch device. Took about 5 mins of plugging and unplugging yes I tried different cablesIt claims the HDMI can run at full resolution. HDMI can only run at 3840 x 2160 resolutionat 120hz over HDMI I have a 1060gtx which can handle more through HDMI.

Running the full 5 resolution required Display Port. My work laptop dell xps 9570 would only drive the HDMI 30hz which is weird. Some times the screen kept flickering to this letterbox view had empty blackness on the top and bottomI really wanted to like this monitor.

The 49 inch was amazing, the curve was amazing Hell, the picture quality was really nice. The monitor felt premium quality. It was a lump of a thing though. But, either I had a faulty device or this just was not ready for the market.

I felt like a Beta tester, which is just not acceptable for a 1,000 piece of hardware.

Back when I did more coding than writing, I was opposed to ultrawide monitors, but with the launch of the Samsung C49RG90, I have been keen to try them out again. 5120 x 1440 effectively gives me two 2560×1440 monitors, which is perfect for writing and having research open at the same time.

Similarly, this is fantastic for content creators using editing apps thanks to the insane horizontal resolution. The setup was easy, there is not much to do if you follow the instructions properly, you attach the monitor mount with the screen still in the box, and you can be done within 5 minutes.

While it is obvious that the monitor itself will take up a lot of desk space, the mount eats up quite a bit of usable space and requires quite a deep table in my opinion I use an Ikea dining table. The controls for the OSD and the OSD itself are quite userfriendly, the power button is a digital stick allowing for easy navigations.

For day to day use I have switched to the eyesaver mode, this gives a sort of grey tint to everything but it does seem to make it a little easier on my eyes when writing. There was a little bit of an adjustment at first, the text looked a bit off, but I think thats more just me being accustomed to my old monitor.

However, over the course of the week, I have adapted to it, and I have put about 45 hours of work time on it and 5 hours of gaming. Productivity feels subjectively much better it is far easier writing and crossreferencing with two windows at 2560×1440.

For gaming, it has been great. Sadly, I am still on a GTX1070 so perhaps have not pushed this to its limits but in Far Cry 5, Witcher 3, and the Division 2 it has been superb. Switching to the gaming modes and using HDR with a higher brightness looks fantastic on Far Cry 5, so much better than my previous monitor.

The 120 Hz refresh rate helps make things buttery smooth and thanks to the changes to GSync I can use the FreeSync 2 to help keep things smooth when my GPU cant keep up. Overall I have come to love this, in the past, I would never have dreamed about spending 1100 on a monitor, but thanks to the improved productivity I think it is something I could just about justify.

From what I can tell there has been no backlight bleed, dead pixels or anything else to cause concern so far. The lack of USBC and Thunderbolt3 is disappointing, though not a dealbreaker.

Firstly, if you are considering a monitor this size – don’t hesitate. The increase in productively will pay for it very quickly. Our company provides architectural and building design solutions. We use the monitors for CAD work and the large size means you can view drawings full width.

We now have 11 of these monitors and counting. There are other similar size monitors out there but we have never had problems with Dell monitors so didn’t want to look elsewhere. The Dell comes with software which allow you to split the screen in various different ways (I have mine divided into 3 – one for emails, one for photos and one for technical publications – its also easy to change on the fly.

The built-in USB hub is very useful. I have a single USB-C cable from my Surface Laptop 4 laptop to the monitor will all my other devices connected to the monitor (not the laptop). I even have an Ethernet to USB 3 adapter connected via the monitor hub and then feeding the laptop.

The single cable between the laptop and monitor is the ultimate in decluttering. The only improvements I’d like to see are audio-out jack, an extra USB-C socket and compatibility with DisplayPort v1.

2 MST so we could daisy chain extra monitors (i. e. its not currently possible to do this with this model).

The split screen functionality is fantastic. If you want to dynamically switch between full screen and half screen on a Windows machine you need to drive the monitor off USB C, and it will then auto resize from 5120×1440 to 2560x1440p.

If you use a non-USB C input when you go to PBP, you’ll get a scaled version of your screen instead of resizing. I use this all the time to flip from full screen to split screen to bring another machine (or gaming console) into my workspace.

Dell Display Manager has a command line interface so you create batch files to switch between modes instead of fiddling with the controls or opening DDM. My only complaint was that Dell vastly underestimated the shipping time.

I was quoted an Aug 31 delivery date with expedited delivery. It shipped on that day but did not arrive until 9/15 because of the shipping method they use for packages of this size. The Dell website consistently underestimated the actual arrival time.

This is a pretty amazing monitor. It essentially exceeded all of my expectations. I first went with the Samsung C49J890DKN, but returned it in favor of this Dell. I am very happy I did. Depending on my location, I use to either use a dual or triple monitor setup – with a combination on windows and Mac computers.

This thing easily replaces either setup. I stuck with this over the Samsung because: 1. The FOOTPRINT! Every other 40″ that I have seen including the Samsung had an enormous footprint that essentially took up my entire desktop work space.

It looked horrible and was not functional. And with my desk setup, I can not do a wall mount and absolutely refuse to put any holes in a very expensive solid wood desk/ hutch. This is the primary reason this monitor won out.

The engineering of the stand to support the significant weigh is SO MUCH BETTER than all the products out there. 2. USB-C 90W charging. Put simply, it works. On the Samsung it didn’t – it connected but did not charge for my Dell Latitude 7200 2 in 1.

This was a show stopper for the Samsung because a huge benefit for a USB-C monitor is being able to ditch the docking station to have a cleaner desk setup. 3. The resolution. Wow – I just wasn’t ready for it.

So much better than what I had been working with in the past. For my windows machines, it looks wonderful (I needed to adjust the text to 125% because everything was just too small. But windows makes this very easy.

). For my Mac, its a pain because Mac OS doesn’t have a great way to only adjust font size without dropping the resolution to 3840×1020. 4. The curve. Honestly, the curve of the Samsung was a bit obnoxious and made this enormous monitor stand out more – in a bad way.

It almost looked comical on my desk and limited space usage on either side of the monitor. I find that the dell curvature is perfect – it is functional and looks good on my desk. My only two gripes: 1.

I wish it had 2 usb-c connections. Like I said, I am using 3 computers and 2 usb-c connections would have been awesome – instead I have a hokey setup with the 3rd computer with and HDMI to USB-C cable AND a power cable – I hate it.

2. No Display Manager for Mac OS. As many have said, this sucks and Dell should address it. At this price point, I am sure than a more than expected share of the purchases are Mac users have much more price inelastic tendencies with purchases (its true.

) Overall – absolutely the best monitor I have ever owned or seen. If you have the cash, I would get it although I know it is very pricey.

This is an almost perfect monitor for my daily work. Now that the situation has eased a lot, I could resume working in office every day. But this monitor is the main reason why I still prefer working from home.

It delivers great image quality, has a built-in usb-dock and plenty of ports for peripheral devices. I use a HDMI cable and a usb-a cable to link my work laptop to the monitor, a usb-c cable connects my private Surface Pro, everything else goes through the built-in usb-dock, e.

g KB, mouse, Ethernet. Perfect. The only limitation I have experienced is that if the screen image is to be 60Hz, the usb-c port has to be configured as version 2. 0, which limits the data rate significantly, including the gigabit Ethernet, which is then throttled to only 480 mb/s.

If the usb-c is configured as version 3. 0, the screen image would have only 30Hz, absolutely unacceptable for me. Another point for future improvement is that the PBP function should be activated/deactivated automatically depending on current input, i.

e. if PBP is configured to DP+HDMI1, then it should be deactivated automatically when input is switched to usb-c. Apart from the two points above, it is a great screen for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

I had this monitor for three months now and I am really happy with the product. The only two main plroblems that I have encountered was ( the webcam/microphone not working) and the video (youtube, netflix ecc.

flickering!!). For the first problem i just had to connect my pc with the Usb UP and it worked fine. For the second problem, after looking for ages on the internet (with no success) the flikering was a bit better with the usb up connected, but still not working in full screen.

I tried (again) to use the HDMI and the broblem was stil there. Until. miracle! I connected HDMI+ Display Port + Usb Up and it is working. I don’t know if it is normal that it works only like this but it is working (for now).

Pros: I am a softward developer and I bought this to replace my two 24 inch 1920x1200px monitors. It turned out to be capable of displaying more because I can have three large windows open instead of just two.

The built in webcam works well for meetings although it covers a much wider angle than my old one. I previously used a lapel microphone, but I don’t any more because my associates say that the sound is good using the built in one.

Cons: I am using the built in KVM switch, so my keyboard and mouse are connected via this display. If I turn the monitor off and put the computer in sleep mode, after I turn the monitor on again then the keyboard and mouse will not wake the computer up.

I have to press the button on the computer to wake it up.

I thought the size of this screen was going to be overkill but now it’s in use it is fantastic. It’s used primarily as a “working from home” monitor for multiple office docs and apps. For this it works great.

Good resolution. Can’t comment on the built-in pop-up web cam or the ability to charge device, run multple concurrent PC’s etc but can recommend it as a great large size montior. Probably be great to play Star Wars Squadrons or MS Flight Simulator too.

The only downside was having to buy a (cheap) video card to run it at full resolution as didn’t think about the crappy onboard graphics on the basic desktop PC not being able to run it in full res (eg Displayport connection).

I wouldn’t go back to a standard size screen now.

Cons: Poor quality Assurance for a $3000 product, mine had 2 patches of dead/stuck pixels, 5 in one spot and 3 in another spot. Has some sort of horizontal scanline issue on certain colors where 1 row of horizontal pixels produce slightly lighter color.

Peak brightness does not hit advertised 2000cd/m2 in HDR in both modes and sustained peak brightness is quite low even in small windows. This is more like a HDR800 monitor, sometimes 1000 and not even 1400, let alone 2000.

My local dimming setting in the OSD keeps resetting to “off” everytime i shutdown my pc and turn it back on or when i turn off the monitor and turn it back on. I have to manually set it to “high” every day.

poor firmware control for a very important feature. HDR doesnt work properly in some content and is washed out and really bad and worse than sdr. DCI-p3 coverage doesnt hit the advertised 95%, my $600 LG monitor had 98% and could hit over 100% The 1000R curve is still not great because of the 49 inch size VA panel the colors on the left and right sides are a bit off when i turn my head.

I think this panel is not true 10bit ? as i can see some banding on 10bit images/content. Not many options for refresh rates. For example i cannot select , say 100hz or 144hz or 165hz or 185hz refresh rates with Display port 1.

4, poor firmware. i can only select 60hz, 120hz and 240hz. but i want to use 144hz. Pros: Monitor has Super good Black levels, almost close to OLED and its impressive. blooming with local dimming is not noticeable.

HDR is ok when it works. very fast response and no smearing for a VA panel.

How on earth Samsung thinks it is ok to release such a half baked product is beyond me, especially when the G9 received all the same criticisms. They literally did not fix a single actual complaint and instead focussed on improving the dimming zones, which is the only impressive thing about this monitor ON PAPER.

In real life the dimming zones mean absolutely nothing because of the poor implementation. HDR is broken to the point where you will never get to experience anything close to the 2000 Nits of peak brightness.

And in SDR the tone mapping is horrendous unless you simply turn the FALD backlight off. There are horizontal scsnlines across the screen when using 240hz AND 120hz. HDMI at 144hz and 8 bit colour seems to be the only setting that doesn’t show these.

The monitor constantly pops and cracks as it heats up. There is 1cm horizontal banding on any grey background. Sources constantly disconnect and reconnect (especially HDR) VRR control mode (setting designed to stop flickering in VRR) turns itself off EVERY TIME YOU TURN OF THE MONITOR.

I can’t begin to explain how frustrating this is. Utterly unacceptable even for a first release of a product like this, AND THIS IS SAMSUNGS SECOND TRY! How they can in good conscience ask people to pay $3000 AUD to be a beta tester for a half baked product is beyond me.

They don’t even seem interested in fixing the issues.

Purchased the G9 Neo the 1st week it was released and apart from a couple of firmware issues which Samsung has addressed over 2 upgrades now this monitor is brillian and cant praise it enough. The latest firmware combined with Windows 11 the HDR absolutely pops and running G-sync have had no frame tear issues.

Using it on a sim rig with the monitor 800mm from the eye it is totally immersive and you forget that the rest of the room exists (AC, ACC, iRacing, F1 2021). Using a PS5 through HDMI the HDR gets even better and the monitor downsamples the PS5 4k output back to 1440p so smoothly you would never know.

(Note running a PS5 in the centre of the screen at 16. 9 you obviously are not using the outside 1/4 of the screen on each side) Well worth it for PC gaming but if you are thinking of only using it for console then you need a G7 instead.

The only thing I wish it had was a remote control but once set up properly you dont need to touch the display controls much anyway.

Has very clear text, although, because of this VA panels partial subpixel illumination it can make certain fonts look more grainy than others when using the monitors native resolution and 100% scaling in Windows.

The solution I found on my Windows 10 to display small font sizes of point size 11 or 12 is to use fonts which use the most amount of pure black pixels for the font (in my experience Courier and MS Reference Sans Serif look excellent on this monitor for programs like notepad or in my compiler).

Then in other programs like word or a browser you can make any font look good by just zooming the applications display scaling to something like 130%. Also, on Windows 10 I highly recommend installing the Fancy Windows application from Microsoft in order to be able to easily and quickly position windows on this beautiful and very wide screen.

The screen was ok. With HDR on from Windows 10 setting, the overall color became brighter and there was no distortion in white background. The stand was stable and height/tilt adjustable but I found the maximum height of this monitor (while on stand) still too low in comparison to another monitor I had.

With PBP, the screens kept retaining the default resolution (3440x) showing black letterboxes top & bottom, even when I changed the setting to “Full screen”. The speakers (2x2W) were too quiet, muffled and just very poor quality, even with loud equalization on.

Coming from another monitor with 2x3W speakers, the difference was HUGE. I ended up returning it for another ultrawide monitor with 3W speakers. And I agree with another reviewer that the toggle thingy on the bottom of the monitor operated feebly, felt like it was going to break with excessive/frequent usage.

I was running three screens for my work activities and was finding that for more complex projects, I needed something better and simpler at the same time. I had been looking at the Samsung CHG9 monitor as a replacement and finally bought one to see if it would work.

I saw the on-line comments about needing enough desk space – which I have and the comments about light bleed, dead pixels and mysterious noises – none of which have I experienced. Right out of the box, this monitor has worked splendidly! There are a couple of points I would like to make: 1).

You don’t absolutely need 2 people to assemble and set up the monitor, but it would be easier with 2. 2). This is a $900 – $1000 monitor and I was hoping for a bit more ease-of-use in accessing and setting up the monitor.

I understand about keeping costs low and not over-complicating things in the design, but the ‘joy-stick-like’ buttons for accessing the internal menus leave much to be desired. For this kind of money and technology, why couldn’t you design this to take advantage of the computer and the keyboard it is attached to, to make the initial setup easier? How much extra would it cost to get rid of the menu configuration buttons and go with something a bit more straightforward? I am in the semiconductor industry so I know about design costs, and trade-offs.

Why make the product with difficulty built-in when high-end compute resources sit within 3 feet of the monitor? 3). One very annoying quirk is the monitor trying to become the default for the sound system instead of the desktop speakers most people have? This is fixable with a couple of mouse clicks, but why do it in the first place.

I seriously doubt that he monitor speakers will be better than most peoples’ desktop speakers! Having said all of that, I would definitely recommend purchasing this monitor to others who need to become more efficient in their work by have a larger visual field to work with.

I don’t do any gaming on this system and use it only for work. One almost-issue is trying to right-size the windows and their placement on the screen. It takes a while to feel out the best arrangement of applications.

For those that worry the screen is too large – especially at the periphery of their vision – you get used to this very quickly and I found that within one day it was not an issue for me. All-in-all, it is a well done monitor and worth the money if you are pulling charts, graphs, tables and text from multiple applications to put into a Word document like I do for business purposes.
