20 Best 4K Tv For Monitor (2022 Updated)

Been wanting to upgrade but loved my plasma and didn’t want to put up with the motion blur from newer TV’s. I did debate between this 5 series TCL and the 6 series because the 5 is only 60hz. However, my built in cabinet wasn’t wide enough for a 55.

so the decision was made for me, 50″ it is with the 5 series. I also looked at the Sam which costs easily twice but couldn’t justify the cost. Decided that it was time though. I had a Roku Ultra attached to the old one and decided to skip using it and go straight to the TCL with Roku built in.

First, Best Buy was super easy, literally ordered online, drove up in front of the store, checked in and the guy loaded it for me. Time at the store – less than 5 minutes and no loading woes. Nice job there! Got home and brought it inside, I was appreciative of the handles on the side of the box for sure.

Got it out and assembled the feet. Gently pulled off the tape protectors on the edges of the TV. Plugged the electric and ethernet in as well as the external antenna coax. There ya go, done. Hardest part was not liking the cheap remote.

Thankfully, I had purchased a Roku Voice Remote Pro already and easily paired it for a much nicer setup. I totally recommend this, it WILL make you enjoy the TV more. Out of the box the picture was really nice.

In fact, upgrading from the 42 to the 50, while didn’t sound like much in theory, I was a little surprised at the difference and it made my head a bit swimmy. The picture was so good, I didn’t miss my plasma like I thought I would.

Only tweak I did make was I changed a setting for smoother motion. I did not change any color settings or use IPQ, was very nice right out of the box. Sound is very good, no distortion. I also like using my remote with the headphones (again, get the better remote).

It is plenty loud in the room and I do not have a soundbar or other external speakers. Wired or Wireless setup is a breeze. Most everything else is too. Especially if you already had a Roku. Though, I swear the TV Roku menu is slower than my Ultra was.

Both were hard wired to a gig of download, so there were no changes in internet. I would absolutely recommend this to a friend, maybe even someone I didn’t like. The simple remote might be a plus for those remote and technology challenged in our lives, simply because it has so few buttons and the ones on there are straightforward.

I did a couple weeks of homework on various makes and models of televisions in the 50″ to 55″ mid-price range. I concluded that TCL’s Roku QLED was a good choice and it had the number of inputs I needed for my home setup.

I have only had the TCL running in the house for about a week but no obvious issues or setup complaints. I have had Roku in our house on other streaming devices so I was already familiar with the graphics.

(I was leaning toward Roku because of the ease of use for our household. ) Suggestions for others considering this TCL TV. 1) I chose to purchase a universal center stand and not have to install the included legs.

The included legs require a wide piece of furniture which did not fit my current living room setup. 2) I chose to purchase a Roku voice remote. The cost is minimal as the included remote control lacks the voice feature.

Very good decision as I enjoy the flexibility to control the TV. 3) I re-evaluated my current HDMI cables. I found I had a poor quality one in the mix and purchased a new one. After all the picture and sound for connected equipment are only as good as the cables.

4) I was surprised but TCL did include the VESA screws. My universal mount worked perfectly once I noticed the screws were already screwed into the VESA mounting holes on the back of the TV. (All I had to do was unscrew them and complete the mounting setup.

) I would purchase this TV without hesitation.

most of the reviews on this product were accurate. I will not talk about the complexity of changing the picture for each specific app or why it will often change to closed captioning when not requested – you can see that in other reviews.

But I will focus on is the picture. Overall, it is a decent 4K television for the money. There are not too many options in this specific size, so this is probably your best bet for the price. As a Roku TV it is also easy to use and to set up, especially since we already had an account.

However, the picture is not perfect and in some scenes I have noticed two specific problems that bother me. The first is that there will be distortion and strange blooming affects when the contrast is fairly significant.

You will see some slight halos and odd geometric patterns on walls in certain scenes that are simply a reflection of the cheap panel. Sometimes the colors are way over-saturated despite changing the settings to dampen it.

It is at these moments when I realize it is a cheap television. The speakers of course are meh, and it will sometimes “crash” unexpectedly requiring a reboot—not too often, luckily, but it happens. Overall, I still recommend it—just don’t go into this television thinking it’s top of the line.

It’s not.

The 55″ C2 OLED TV from LG is quite possibly the best TV of 2022 in that size. First impressions – you immediately notice how light the package is and it is also climate-friendly with recycled materials used.

Not only the packaging itself but the TV itself is also surprisingly very light compared to its compatriots from previous years. Despite being lighter, the TV is sturdy and the materials look & feel premium.

The TV looks beautiful and is very easy to set up. The user interface and WebOS take some getting used to. The settings are easy to understand as they are differentiated and explained very well. Picture quality is incredible and has a noticeable difference from my previous OLED from LG.

There are the standard picture settings but also a new Filmmaker mode which I really like! All picture modes are highly customisable and the quality is excellent straight out of the box. Although it is recommended to customise the picture quality using the settings to get the best possible image.

HD/4K/HDR content looks incredible and very immersive. I have watched movies, TV shows, sports, animated content and specific content to fully utilise the TVs HDR features – I was pleased to see it perform amazingly in each case! Sound quality is also really good from the TV, although I have connected it now to my soundbar.

It syncs without any problems. It is possible to go through the individual connected devices to set them up to be used with the TV remote. I did that for my soundbar and now I can control it using the TV remote itself.

I also did that for my set-top box, so convenient! It is the perfect TV for gaming with a dedicated gaming mode which works brilliantly. I have had no issues whatsoever with the TV when playing on my console.

I have also used the in-built Stadia app to play games through it and it worked flawlessly. The TV has lots of great features to really make it the centre-piece of in-home entertainment. The remote is well-designed and the hotkeys are incredibly convenient.

The TV is really fast thanks to the latest processor and switching between apps is seamless. I will wholeheartedly recommend this TV. It is fantastic with lots of latest tech and features. I will say – please take some time to explore all of the TVs amazing features, it will enhance the experience and ensure you are using it to its fullest capability.

This is LG’s flagship G2 77” OLED evo Gallery Edition TV and its simply gorgeous. Despite the premium price tag the G2 only comes with a wall mount and the LG G2 TV stand is not yet released in the UK to order, we had to use a universal TV stand for now to suit the setup in our conservatory until the LG TV stand is available.

That aside LG designed the G2 with an eye catching premium finish which looks gorgeous however you display it. Once up and ruining you can see immediately how intuitive LG’s new version of the webOS is to navigate and frankly it really impresses.

Navigating the Freeview TV channels as well as the built in Apps is the most user-friendly menu system that I’ve seen on any TV. It is very fast and intuitive with an ergonomically designed LG smart remote / pointer / roller to navigate and Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Rokuten TV as well Alexa dedicated buttons for instantly switching between apps.

I really like that Alexa is built in and works really well with LG’s fastest A9 Gen5 AI processor 4K, Dolby Vision IQ, Filmmaker Mode, Dolby Atmos along with gaming features such as Nvidia G-SYNC and FreeSync Premium only further enriches the viewing experience.

The G2 boosts an upgraded OLED evo panel, with the all-new Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor and much improved heat dissipation than last year’s G1 model. The panel is in fact extremely bright with deep blacks and rich vibrant colours when watching any TV channel, movie or show, so much so it that I find watching TV much more engaging and enjoyable seeing detail the likes of which I’ve never experienced before.

It’s worth mentioning that the smart picture options on the TV automatically select the best picture mode for you as it accurately determines what type of content you are watching and adjusts the image to suit movies, TV series and gaming etc.

Nice! As for the sound quality the G2 built in down firing speakers are surprisingly good and noticeably better than the C2 model for example though we use our home theatre system when watching movies etc for full 7.

1 surround sound. In summary the new LG G2 77” OLED evo Gallery Edition has a gorgeous design and produces the best picture I’ve ever seen on any TV. My only real gripe is that I feel it should come with a TV stand included as well as the wall mount.

Never the less it’s truly stunning and if you have the budget, this is one TV you have to add to your wish list and experience it in person.

I upgraded from a 65″ LED TV from a different make. Wow, what a difference. Starting with the externals, the TV itself is very thin and once mounted on the wall using the included wall mount it sits very close to the wall for a fantastic look.

Setup is straightforward. For me I plugged in the three HDMI devices I use and turned it on. The TV guides you through the setup process and this is all very straightforward. At this stage you’ll notice the remote which is different to other TV remotes I have in that it supports a point and click type operation where you move the remote and the pointer moves allowing you to select things (think a certain games console with a plumber as a mascot).

This is an interesting approach and works well. Once setup I mainly use Google TV rather than the built-in WebOS interface, but this is primarily because my family (including two young children) are used to the very simple remote.

If it was just me I would be more than happy using the built-in interface. I also have a PS5 connected and the TV supports all the cool features you’d expect like 4K, HDR, VRR. Gaming looks absolutely fantastic.

So far I have mainly tried Horizon: Forbidden west and it is mind bogglingly beautiful on this TV. Regardless of the source I use a Denon receiver for audio. This is sent from the TV to the receiver using eARC and this has worked very well.

HDMI CEC which tends to be problematic with most devices has also worked flawlessly. This is where you can use the remote of a connected device (in my case Google TV or PS5) to turn on/off the TV and also to select the correct input.

This is fantastic as it means a single remote for my family members to watch TV whilst still using surround sound. There is some glare during bright days when the sun hits the TV, but this is to be expected with any TV, and especially so with OLED.

OLED is often criticised for not being bright enough but I can’t say I’ve had that problem. It would be nice if LG started having connection boxes where there is a single cable to the TV which goes down to a box with all the other connectors.

Some other brands have this and it would be great with this TV since it sits so very close to the wall. There is, of course, the issue of price. This is a very high end TV and is priced accordingly. Having said that, if you have the money to spare and you’re int he market for a high end TV you definitely won’t go wrong with this one.

I preferably use my monitor for watching movies, PPV’s, work, and school. Work and school more importantly. The overall is experience is great but the monitor does lag and glitch in certain areas where I would like it to improve on.

I’ll mention it from the area I’ve been troubled with the most to the area where I beleive connections seem to be the problem. (1)Microsoft (MS) Word does a lot of glitching when I type. I am not sure if this is the case with other MS applications but I’ve been working around it with my other devices.

Due note that I use a Bluetooth (BT) keyboard but the issue does to be the same on other devices) (2)There is a bad & noticeable lag at the start up when opening and operating the menus in moving through applications or settings etc.

This lag slowly fades away as the moniter adjust. (3)My BT mouse appears on the list of BT connection for the monitor but does not pair. My 3 keyboards don’t seem to have this problem (nor do my other devices when connected vai BT) as they connect with no issue.

There is also a small lag with the BT mouse through DEX. I am not very concern about it as the finger pad DEX uses through devices has no latency. (4)Websites are very small & hard to work with when connected on DEX.

My tab doesn’t have this issue. In general I really enjoyed the monitor as it provides me with the entertainment I need & more. All the functions I need for productivity are there & can be even greater if these technicalities weren’t yielding.

I had used 34 monitor with 3440×1440 resolution for 7 years. But for the first couple of days I was still a little overwhelmed by this 42. 5 viewable size. I had used this monitor for about two weeks.

and think it’s a great monitor overall. I put it on desk with viewing distance being 3 to 5 feet. The stand is neither too high or too low and its thin foot did not take much space. I abandoned the thought to buy an after-market adjustable stand.

The image quality is very nice and 42. 5 viewable area with 3840×2160 resolution can display multiple windows for easy viewing. The thin bezel on all sides also made the monitor neat and not too big on its physical size.

I am using a digital KVM switch for mouse and keyboard switch and shared external hard drive and USB flash. I do not know if blue tooth keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor can control all PC or macs or drives connected to the monitor.

The inputs are little lacking, I do wish it has at least one Display Port. The most annoying thing is the remote control. Some may like it with fewer buttons but to me some times its annoying, maybe I haven’t found the right way to use it.

e. g. to switch among the 2 HDMI and USB-C and other streaming sources except dedicated Netflix and prime video , you need to press the buttons on the menu many times. If you want to change settings, after you are done and you also need to press it multiple times to exit on screen menu.

With additional 1- 3 buttons in a row on the remote it may make some task much easier and quick with fewer presses. The Blue tooth connected audio degrades the audio quality, it could be the fault of my DAC / Amplifier which has older version of Blue tooth.

I haven’t tried the digital audio via the ARC and can’t comment on its quality. The free stream services are nice to have. Though I pointed a couple of minor issues, I still love this monitor and recommend it to anyone liking big monitor.

So i bought this because I wanted a monitor to connect my xbox to it and this was perfect because when I’m done gaming I can just just watch some shows on it just like my tv. I love the 32 inch size, the fact the its 4k and that it’s smart.

Iconnected it to my alexa devices and now I can control it with my voice. Its great for gaming too and as a regular computer monitor. I have a mini pc that I hooked up to it which is amazing. So i basically have a tv, computer and gaming monitor all in one which i so awesome! Would definitely recommend getting this especially if you’re limited on space and can’t fit a tv.

Bonus fact is that its more portable than a tv so if you have to pack up and go somewhere you can being it with you and watch your shows, do some work or have fun and game a little. This really is the best, plus its samsung so you know its top tier quality.

Most of the stuff I own are samsung. A samsung phone, tv, computer monitor, sound bar, chromebook, earphones, watch, laptop, now they just need to make a samsung smart glasses and I will be all set! Seriously buy this thing because you don’t want to be missing out on something that is this great and the price is really good too which is a bonus.

Basically if you’re looking for a really good quality monitor, look no further than the m series smart monitors from samsung. Im even thinking about getting a second monitor for my gaming set up which would be really awesome so I can use one to game and one to stream my shows!!.

If quirks are features this thing is jam packed! Joking aside I like this TV. It has a good image quality and brightness. I much prefer Google TV over other choices, which is the main reason I purchased this for my room.

The good: – cheaper than Sony – great color and brightness – affordable 4K tv – nice form factor, simple install The bad: – doesn’t always work with Google assistant – colors funky out of the box – sound + sound features could be better – restarts if black screen on too long While it’s a nice TV and I’m giving it 4-stars, I really hope the software gets massively improved.

It shuts off when I idle the firestick, restarts, then goes to the home screen. Undesirable as I have this on 2 TVs (quality splitter) and my intention is to leave it black when I wish. I have an LG OLED that doesn’t suffer from this.

The picture out of the box is very saturated – greens seem unreal and almost neon. It took quite a bit of tweaking but it’s finally decent. The 27 lighting zones on the 50″ give it a bit more depth; not OLED level but a nice midground and better than full panel backlighting.

Colors really pop thanks to quantum dots. Only complaint picture-wise is motion blur, but it can be minimized in settings by turning the related features OFF (or to low). Headache inducing + experience breaking if you don’t.

The quirks really bother me, but I think it has more to do with the software than anything hardwared on the TV. Aside from what’s mentioned, it has this issue where it WILL NOT TURN ON by Google Assistant unless it’s been on the the last 12 or so hours (otherwise I have to use the remote – very annoying).

On this same topic the Google Assistant built in was a bit distracting. I already have my phone + a mini sitting right beside me. I disabled the one on TV as it hurt more than help. I WISH I could do more in settings regarding audio: I messaged about setting a delay for optical out – which is there now – but isn’t enough.

I run mine thru my sound card on my PC since it’s a hub to my sound system. My other TV lets me choose how I want audio out, even combining outputs like the 3. 5mm with the built in speakers; the TCL does not.

If you plug in a 3. 5mm, YOU CANNOT USE BUILT IN SPEAKERS without unplugging it. No software option to disable, unplugging it from the other end doesn’t help. My original plan was to use this (3. 5mm) on a splitter to share with my LG TV.

Unfortunately I now have a cable and splitter just chilling until TCL does something with this. To use my sound system I either have to run content to both TVs and use the LGs controls, or control the volume via PC.

Isn’t a *big* deal, but annoying. I tried 2 different routes hooking this thing to sound and both somewhat disappointed. The built-in apps are nothing special but it does run Android so you get the full sweep of apps.

For $500 it’s not a bad TV. If this is an extra and not your primary, definitely worth hooking up (unless you can swing for a better like OLED TV – it’s nice enough but if you can afford better get a Sony OLED (uses LG panel) or upcoming QD-OLED (uses Samsung panel) to have the features of Google TV and quality of Sony.

I couldn’t justify the price tag so I got this and LG – not disappointed with either but for $1. 2K+ you can get much better).

I might have waited and missed this excellent TV at its Sale price. The TV checks all the feature boxes in the 50 inch size that it has on the 65″ size and that is *not* true of many other manufacturers’ models.

(So maybe they do but don’t believe a reviewer that says “we tested one size but the other sizes should work the same. ” Maybe they should but more often they don’t!) It has 60Hz panel with good picture quality.

To me, the screen is more than bright enough for the bedroom and I need to investigate more to get it dim enough to watch comfortably in the dark. There are a lot of image quality controls. You need to pay attention because some effect the entire TV, done only effect the input that they were set on.

The remote feels cheap and is not intuitive. You might have to read the manual! I choose a Google TV because I was already use to running a Fire TV dongle and I hoped to get additional functionality with the Google environment as another option.

I think that YouTube offers more on Google TV and I can view my Google movies directly without having to cast them from another device like you do with Fire TV. Other than that, I’ve spent most of the time on the Fire TV dongle as I think it has a better user experience.

Important to me: when I ask Fire TV assistant a question it directly returns to the movie or whatever I was doing when it’s done. The Google assistant stops the action, exits the app and leaves you there when it’s done.

You have to manually re-launch the app you were using and restart your movie selection. That seems very primitive to me. I have the Fire TV dongle, the cable box and my laptop connected. My old laptop only supports 4k at 30Hz and that is crystal clear and laser sharp while working with text or surfing.

My gaming rig is in another room. I’ve installed the Steam app on the Google TV side and it works as expected though I’ve only tried 1080p play so far. Growing pains. Voice activation of the Google assistant hasn’t worked since the last update though still works if you push the button.

The Fire TV dongle used to turn the set on and off (when using Alexa commands) but that doesn’t work right now either. I expect these back in another update and don’t deduct for that because they seem to be coming often enough.

The clunky task switching when using Google TV though is a real bother and that does take one star off. Hope that helps!.

After a month of research it came down between the TCL 5-series and the Sony X80K both in 65″. The store demo of the Sony was absolutely gorgeous and I must say for a direct lit panel I was very impressed.

However, I wanted full array LED dimming which the TCL 5-series has. Unfortunately the TCL 5-series was not on display for demo purposes. For $250 less the TCL offered more in terms of picture quality.

on paper that is. I knew based on all the reviews I’ve read and all of the YouTube videos I’ve watched that it was a gamble whether or not one would get a great looking panel or one that was bust hence the term the “panel lottery” After pacing around the store for 20 minutes, I ended up purchasing the TCL knowing that BB had a 15 day return policy if I was not happy with this it.

When I got home I nervously set it up hoping I had made the right choice. Overall setup, from unboxing, installing feet, updating software, and tweaking the picture took about 30 minutes. I then went to NETFLIX and started watching one of the latest nature shows narrated by the British fellow and boy I knew right away I had won the “panel lottery”! The picture was beautiful! The colors were so vibrant and the blacks were inky and dark.

It blew away that Sony X80K that was on display at BB!!! My previous TV was a Samsung 50″ plasma from 2013. This 65″ TCL is huge for my medium sized living room. But after a week of watching it I got used to the size.

The QLED technology is getting so good it’s giving OLED a run for their money. TCL in my opinion is the best value for your money. I paid $499. 99 for this TV as opposed to an OLED that’s 3 times as much.

I am very happy with this purchase and I highly suggest this TV to anyone who wants an awesome picture quality on a budget! The sound on the TV is not very good. I am running an optical cable out from the TV into my Denon receiver.

And lastly I will say if you don’t want the “soap opera” effect you’ll have to go into the settings and turn it off in the “motion” portion of it. I hope this review helps you in making a decision in getting this TV! Happy shopping!.

First of all, I hate being spammed after I buy a product to provide a review (like VIZIO does). If I feel strongly about a product, I will find a way on my own to provide feedback. But you asked for it.

PLUS’s: 1. Set-up on both the TV (and optional VIZIO sounder) was easy, but both the devices and the remote controls had to be rebooted several times when they locked up (for example, when I tried the first voice command suggested by VIZIO, the whole system froze) 2.

Good price point 3. Three HDMI ports, including eARC for sound bar hook up 4. Looks really good, with bezel-less design and sound bar that matches in flat black MINUS’s 1. Junky plastic legs were really, really hard to attach without stripping the phillips head screws provided, and they’re not that sturdy.

If you live in CA, you might consider an earthquake cable to anchor to the wall if freestanding 2. Battery covers on the junky plastic remotes were almost impossible to remove, had to literally pry them open with the edge of a very sharp knife 3.

Believe it or not, VIZIO TV’s do NOT support Bluetooth earbuds or headphones “Currently, VIZIO televisions only support Bluetooth LE, which is a low energy form of bluetooth used to assist in pairing the VIZIO SmartCast Mobile application to use devices like smart phones and tablets as a remote for the TV”- from their website.

Fortunately, Apple TV does, but DISH satellite box may require a USB adapter. For SmartCast and WatchFree content, forget it. 4. Picture looked better next to all the Cheap-class TV’s at the store than it does at home, “4K HDR” may be more hype than reality depending on what you watch-DISH requires a DVR upgrade, the bandits at Netflix make you upgrade to their Premium plan at $5 more per month, etc.

Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video do not charge extra. 5. Power cord is permanently attached to the TV, so you have to climb around behind to your wall plug or surge protector for every reboot. 6. Response time on the TV to the remote control can be quite s-l-o-o-o-w at times.

Purchased this over the phone. Sales advisor as ever was polite, knowlegable and took their time with my questions and order. 6 year guarantee thrown in and you just can’t fault Richer Sounds with their service.

Delivered within the time advised and I was able to track where the van was on its very precious journey which was very handy. Had the TV over a week now. I managed to cobble together a lattice work of pure bodging style to get the TV to mount on my existing 15 year old wall bracket which was substantial enough to take the new monster but just lacking the bracketry.

It is definitely a two person job! My previous TV was a top of the range 5 year old Sony LED HDTV, KDL43W805C which produced an amazing picture. When I fired up the A80J, it went through the set up. First thoughts were “It doesn’t seem that bright” but suddenly a wonderous 5 second video of colourfull swirling images demo’d and myself and my two kids bellowed a synchronous “WOW!”.

The video punched from the screen with its vibrancy giving a tantalising hint at what this TV was going to be capable of. Alas, it was short lived as out of the box, the picture, although bright and vivid, left somewhat to be desired depending on the source material.

It has taken quite a while to work out what settings I needed to make it my own. Picture quality is always very subjective and perhaps some of my hesitancy in not singing the A80J’s praise too highly may be because I was perhaps spoiled by the quality of the HD picture on my old Sony.

I think the reason why I spent a small fortune on this (because I had to buy a new sofa as well to keep the missus happy!) was because I wanted a forever TV and perhaps my perception this TV would deliver that was just too high.

Having said all that, it does depend on the source signal as to the quality you will eventually end up with displayed on the panel. The 4k videos from YouTube really do show what this TV is capable of and the quality of the screen and processing does ooze through.

I have Dsiney Plus and though some movie and programme streams seem to be well done and well suited, some are just not very good though that is more a problem with Disney I feel rather than the TV. The trouble is, when the source quality is not that great, this TV really does show up those glaring inadequacies and no amount of picture fettling will polish a poopy image and to be fair, I wouldn’t expect it to either.

One nice little bonus with the purchase of Sony XR TV’s is they give you free 12 months unlimited streaming of movies on their Sony Bravia Core App. There are quite a few titles to choose from and the couple I have seen have been of superb quality which again goes back to the thing of if the source is good, you will get a quality picture.

I also have Sky+HD and this is perhaps where I have had most trouble. When I first loaded the planner with all of its blue and white, the text just seemed really blurry and my eyes were trying to focus to make it sharp which made it difficult to look for any length of time.

This also seemed to be apparent whilst watching Sky F1 HD. I finally found that if I turned Digital Noise Reduction setting off, it vastly improved the sharpness. The SD channels are OK and watchable but the increase in screen size invariably has a knock on affect in viewing quality but it’s Ok.

I mainly watch motorbike racing in HD throughout the year and I tried some on the A80J but I am having truble getting the motion control set up properly to get smooth pictures but avoiding the blocky artefacts that plague the screen when riders pass barriers and the like in the near background.

I’m hoping I can get there with this one as on my old Sony I’ve virtually had none of that which made viewing a pleasure. The other thing I notice is that the dark areas really do look dark with littel shadow detail.

I have been trying various settings that has improved it but I feel like this one will just be a limitation of what the A80J can do. Blu-Ray content again looks really good. I can’t wait to get a 4K player and some titles because I think that will really make all the difference against streaming to a limited download speed.

Although I was fully aware of the problem with catch up services not being present yet, it is quite astonishing that Sony don’t have this sorted yet. It doesn’t actually bother me (yet!) as I can use Sky for that but should I ever get rid of it, it doesn’t fit that a high-end TV doesn’t have catch up services.

So in summary, if your source material is of appropiate quality suited to a 4K 55″ OLED, the A80J will do it justice and then some with its vibrancey and depth of colours once you have managed to adjust the picture settings to your liking.

For lower quality material, no amount of processing will gloss that over on a TV this big so I would lower your expectations on that particular point and accept it is what it is. All the Apps run smoothly and the TV on the whole runs Google TV much faster than my old Sony which is very welcome.

I run my sound through a Home Cinema System but I did briefly try the in-built speakers and was mightily impressed. Overall, I am pleased I made the leap and I am still learning but I think my expectations were just a little too high to what the A80J can actually deliver.

I knock half a star off for having to spend so much time getting the picture settings right across a wide range of source material which might seem a little unfair as it’s my perception of what should look good and a half a star for not having the most basic of catch-up services on such an expensive TV which is most definitely Sony’s fault! I bought mine to upgrade from a older LG OLED and all I can say is wow what an improvement. To start off, the 77 inch version of the A80j uses the same Evo panel as the G1 and C2 along with Sony’s best processing, which means the 77 inch version is a bit better than the 55 or 65 that’s typical reviewed or compared on most sites.

What does this mean? It’s noticeably brighter than most other OLEDs with only the A90, G2 or S95 being brighter. Highlights and white text especially have more noticeable punch behind them than on a non-Evo panel OLED.

Colors on the Sony are way more accurate than my old LG, especially noticeable in skin tones where subtle things like Aloy’s rosy cheeks are rosy without overaaturating and making her appear sunburned.

Explosions have significantly more meat to them without colors desaturating as badly as my old OLED and are a real spectacle. Watching Last Jedi and things like the throne room duel have such deep lovely red, the brightness of lightsabers clashing is wonderful and Phasma’s armor is blindingly bright (in a completely dark room of course).

Moon Knight had absolutely stunning visuals on it as well. Of course it goes beyond color, the Sony also has excellent shadow detail and is less likely to crush shadow detail to black the way my old LG did.

So subtle dark scenes have more detail, especially evident in the night scenes in Moon Knight where there’s very little light going on or The Greatest Showman’s opening act with detail being visible in the shadows.

Motion handling is one of Sony’s strongest areas, with panning shots being noticeably smoother without artificial smoothness (soap opera effect). The reality creation engine does an excellent job handling older sources, episodes of Star Trek Voyager up converted quite nicely.

It’s not a miracle worker but it’s still better than my old LG. In fact just about everything from 4k disc’s to streaming looks noticeable crisper and sharper than my old TV. Gaming is an area a lot of reviews knock this TV on, but honestly it does great for most people gaming on it.

I have both a gaming PC with RTX 3080 and a PS5 attached to it. I finished up Horizon Forbidden West on it and was stunned at how much better it looked, large vista’s of bright snow or desert look way more impactful and highlights stand out from them more than on my older C8.

Adaptive sync works perfectly on both my ps5 and my pc on top of it which is awesome. If you’re going for a TV like this I think you probably should invest in a soundbar or speakers, but that said while setting it up I did use it’s built in “acoustic surface” sound while getting my speakers hooked back up and was rather impressed.

It definitely sounded better than the built in speakers on my LG or most other tvs I’ve heard The software is very smooth and easy to use. If youve used an android phone you’ll be right at home Overall I highly recommend the TV.

Everything I’ve watched on it has looked stunning and I’ve had no issues with it.

This is a phenomenal television. I made an upgrade to this coming from a 65″ Samsung (2014 model hu7150) which was really a great TV, but not 4k and I was looking to improve my viewing experience. I spent about two weeks debating between this a80j and the C1, and I’m glad I pulled the trigger on the Sony.

Both are equally great sets, I’m sure, but I chose this one for the supposedly more accurate picture out of the box, and of course Sony’s renounced processing power. After living with it for about two weeks, I’m confident I made the right choice.

The picture is absolutely gorgeous, and any concerns I had about oled not being bright enough are not an issue. This thing is blinding compared to my old Samsung (which I did have set up for optimal black levels etc, but due to the nature of led, the picture was turned way down to achieve that), the oled has incredible black levels naturally but highlights, especially on HDR content, are intense and this thing is extremely immersive in any of my viewing circumstances but it’s really mind blowing while watching in the dark.

The XR processor from what I can tell does a great job. Any upscaling it’s doing seems good and pretty much any content I throw at it, it manages to make it look beautiful. Most importantly for me, is the way it handles motion.

Generally, I can’t stand motion smoothing on tvs. It makes everything look so artificial. But with this tv, I haven’t noticed any weird soap opera effect. I have it set on minimum or low setting depending on content, and it keeps the picture smooth and mostly blur/judder free without looking fake.

The Google TV experience works perfectly but I was coming from a Chromecast with Google TV so I’m well familiar with that already. The TV speakers are acceptable and better than any I’ve ever heard, but I only tried them once just to see how they worked.

It’s nice to have but is a not necessarily important for me as I’m hooked into a full surround sound home theater system. I suppose with all that, I really feel like I bought the perfect TV. But, there’s always a but – and for this set I feel like burn in concern would be the only issue.

Sony has obviously baked in software to try and prevent that, and with that, only time will tell. The pixel shift feature, I must say, is kind of annoying for someone who has a bit of ocd. It moves the picture around slightly on the panel, which leads to the black bars not always being symmetrical, more noticeable on the sides.

It’s not extremely obvious, but I do notice it. I chose to leave it on however because I would like to preserve the picture quality as long as possible. With that being said, I watch a ton of varied content and am not an avid gamer nor am I using the display as a pc monitor, so I’m hoping to get many years of valuable use from this panel.

As far as gaming goes, the Sony only having two 2. 1 inputs vs four from the C1 was not a concern for me, but I could see how it would be for some. Either way, when it comes time to upgrade my HT receiver, I will make sure it has the inputs/outputs necessary so that will certainly not be any concern at all.

Bottom line, if you’re in the market for an oled television in 2021, I honestly feel like this is the one to buy. The a90 is fantastic, I’m sure, but I didn’t really consider it. I could have bought two of these vs one 83″ a90 and still had 2k cash to spare, so I’m pretty confident the slight improvement in PQ and size increase of the a90 isn’t worth it.

And vs the 77″ C1, well that’s just a matter of personal preference, and I’m sure anyone would be equally pleased with either in their home.

PROs: + Price for the picture is very good + Picture quality is good, with good viewing angles + Google TV is a nice OS (with caveats) + Good array of inputs + Thin bezel and good design makes it appealing + Ability to turn off “Smart TV” and set it up as a “dumb” TV should be a feature on all smart TVs CONs: – Black levels are poor, making it seem a bit flat – Audio from TV speakers demands an upgrade – Google TV is riddled with advertising which is extraordinarily annoying for a purchased product – Remote control is too thin and difficult to handle Purchased for my parents to upgrade their TV, and it is excellent for their needs.

Unfortunately, they are getting older and these new-fangled technologies are slowly driving them mad. Google TV is a very good OS, and they seemed to pick up on it quickly. However, I do think they preferred the Roku OS which is a cleaner and more intuitive interface.

The biggest annoyance I have with Google TV is the advertisements they drop in. For a purchased product, this feels intrusive and acts to trip up people who don’t realize they are clicking on an advertisement.

Seriously, Google, how much money do you need?? One quirk we had was when hooking up the Facebook Portal TV, it would cause the entire CEC system to fail. This isn’t a fault of the TV but of the Facebook Portal device, yet it was frustrating to learn that we couldn’t use CEC with the Facebook Portal TV installed.

A workaround was to get an adapter that blocks CEC from the Portal, but it makes it harder to use now. The thin remote is solidly built, but it is so thin and the buttons are so small and illogically placed, it makes it more difficult for my parents than the old and more simple Roku remote was.

Overall, a decent TV, but there are better TVs available now with better picture quality. I tried to stay all Sony for my parents’ entertainment setup, and I’m glad they all work well together. But I wish these devices from Sony were better at communicating with each other too.

It is frustrating have 3 different Sony remotes that won’t work with the others.

THE GOOD: My first 55″ tv ever and the first Sony in 25 years! First, the picture (4K) is superb and worth the cost. It walks all over ANY 1080 image! Plenty of adjustments you can make )some required reading to see exactly what they do).

Another positive is the weight at appx 50-55 pounds. Not bad because it is a big TV and should have some heft. Finally, sound is surprisingly GOOD for flat screen TV speakers. These speakers can get loud while staying quite clear, but this is no hard hitting subwoofer! As it sits, I had an easy time adjusting settings for loud/clear audio for NASCAR races and Indycar races.

I wish this Sony had 4 corner woofers for tight bass accompanying the good high and mid range sound it already has. The Neutral: I’m not happy, nor mad about the constant gagging to “setup your Google Tv channels now.

Well I use a ROKU with about 6 pay-for streaming channels and none are Google TV that the Sony software pushes so hard. It wasn’t very difficult to setup my ROKU, yet it wasn’t CLEARLY STATED / recommended for the best HDMI cable needed for true top of the line 4K viewing, great sound.

Sony should offer a TOP version HDMI cable for a great HDMI experience. PRICE: Obviously not cheap or free, but under $1000 with taxes and shipping. $865 shipped by FedEx 2-day delivery was fine with me.

The BAD: I feel Sony could have given a stronger warranty for a new, higher end set with a load of tips and tricks. I think a solid 6- month FULL COVERAGE warranty of items with shipping, handling, wear and tear, AND a comparable to even 1 step-up better model TV set to take its place in the event something goes afoul.

Finally back to speakers: these are great but with some Sony engineering magic, add a true bass speaker in the lower left and lower right front fascia to broadcast out hard hitting, tight, snappy BASS! Not a subwoofer; they would need too much room.

2 or even 4 square woofers would add next level sound! David.

This TV definitely lives up to the Sony name. This is the first Sony TV I have bought, although I have owned Sony Shortwave radios and I am still using an old Sony DVD recorder with a ATSC tuner. I have always consider Sony to be top of the line with receivers.

This TV has an awesome picture and for a flat screen great sound. I had to tweak the sound and picture settings. Especially the sound settings, to get the best performance, the factory settings really did not produce very good sound.

I was also able to pair a Bluetooth headphone set to the TV. I primary bought this for the Next Gen tuner, although I have not been able test it yet, but I am sure I will. I primarily watch OTA (TV over the air) and live in a marginal area for TV reception, so I am more interested in it as a receiver.

I have been watching OTA for over 12 years with a Roku box added in. As far as the receiver, it works as good and marginally better then other TV’s I am using on the same antenna system. In the help menu it has a signal diagnostic feature which gives signal strength and the all important Signal to Noise Ratio.

It also lets you add digital channels, so you can turn the antenna and add channels, without having to do a full channel scan. Features I like about Google TV. Sony allows you to install a full feature web browser.

Google TV, also allows to add channels from Pluto and Xumo (and actually pick which channels you want to add) to your TV tuner app, allowing you to surf streaming channels with your over the air channels.

So far I have nothing negative to say. I would recommend this TV to my friends.

The unboxing process is as simple as can be, with all of the required wall mounts and screws included. In addition to the standard remote, there is also an IR blaster, so than any additional devices connected to the TV can be controlled with the built in remote.

The TV software setup is reasonably easy, if not a little long. There are A LOT of screens to go through, with a lot of agreeing to terms and conditions, and a mix of different user interfaces to navigate.

I did get stuck on one screen where no matter how many times I clicked a “Continue” button it simply wouldn’t, but restarting the TV seemed to fix that issue. Once up and running, you are dropped on the main Home Screen, which is quite daunting, as it’s full of things that you will probably in all likelihood not use.

I suppose it depends on whether you are planning to use the built in apps or not, but as somebody with an Apple TV, this Home Screen is something I will never use. Luckily you can configure the TV so that it just goes to your last input on boot, rather than to the cluttered Home Screen.

In terms of picture modes, they are highly configurable, and if you are not a fan of the “soap opera” effect, you will want to get into the settings and turn off TruMotion. In terms of the Dolby picture settings, there are modes for “Home” and “Cinema”, which essentially cater for a room with lights on, versus a completely dark room, that look quite good out of the box.

The sound is “fine” if not a little “uneven” so to speak. Depending on the mode, I’ve found that for example, dialogue is a little quiet, so requires the volume to be a little louder than normal. However, when music or action sequences start, the volume is MILES louder, meaning it’s tough to find a balance between dialogue than can be heard and other sequences being way too loud.

There doesn’t seem to be any mode where both dialogue and music/action sequences are at an equal volume. The remote again is “fine”, though if you are using an external box for Netflix etc. you will rarely interact with it.

The pointer style navigation works, but it can be a little hard to hit some of the on screen targets. The design of the TV itself is beautiful, and the G1 setup for wall mounting is excellent, in terms of how the external ports are arranged.

In Australia, the optional legs should also be shipped with the TV, and these were easy to attach (and unattach). Overall this is a solid TV that I would recommend to anybody who wants a best in class OLED.

First of all, I would like to say that the Insiders did a great job updating us on delivery and having tracking available for something as expensive as this. Initially I had planned to pay a professional to fit the TV because I had never wall mounted a TV before.

However, I decided against that because luckily my dad is a construction supervisor so already had all the necessary tools to do the job. It turned out to be easy, only took us roughly an hour to wall mount the TV and most of that time was actually spent looking at the instructions inside the box! The TV is thin at only 2cm wide! The remote is very comfortable and quite light, but the best thing about it is the motion controlled pointer with gyroscope.

This allows for much quicker navigation of the menus than most TVs, including typing text on apps such as Youtube which we use frequently. The TV turns on instantly, timed it at roughly 3 seconds. The picture is amazing, especially when watching 4k content, however surprisingly even standard definition content looks a lot better than my old TV as the colours are much more vibrant.

The TV has great viewing angles so even when looking at it from the corner of the room the image will still look exactly the same as looking at the TV head on. What I would say is because the TV is near a window I have had to increase the brightness in the settings for daytime viewing but this TV does get very bright if you need it to, I only had to slightly increase the brightness to get a clear picture – up to 65 (originally at 50).

With blinds/curtains closed and in particular with the lights off is when the TV looks amazing and the colours pop even more. Be sure to remove the protective film that is installed on the TV once you have wall mounted it as it unnecessarily makes the picture blurrier.

The TV comes with 4 HDMI 2. 1 ports with all the latest tech built in such as HDR and VRR. This TV is future proof for at least the next 6 years, especially for video gaming. The input lag is super low on this TV which is great for gaming and for something like Xbox Series X as it has all the necessary features to take full advantage of the system.

In fact I would say the Xbox is lagging behind as very few games currently run at 4k and 120fps with HDR10 or Dolby Vision, an example of why this TV is definitely future proofed. There is a great game optimizer option which allows for all sorts of settings to make your games run to their full potential.

Coming from an older Plasma (a GT60, which was still going strong. , ish), I was expecting quite a wow factor & I really was not disappointed. I’d been following the progress of OLEDs for a while & even though I wasn’t tempted by a QLED, I had compared the pros & cons of each, with the only definable advantage of the LEDs being how bright they can get.

Now, upon initial viewing of the G1, I honestly don’t understand how people can say OLEDs aren’t bright. I was VERY surprised with how bright the screen can get. The missus has said on numeous occasions that it’s too bright at times (I have altered the settings with the help of Vincent, of HDTV Test fame), so it’s not the Vivid setting burning her retinas out.

I guess in part coming from an older plasma set, it was just too much for her to handle :’) The magic remote is a nice upgrade over the old remote, as having a pointer is a very welcome bonus & is just a really good QOL improvement.

As I didn’t want to wall mount it, setting it up on the feet I bought for it was simple, though lifting it from the packaging & placing it somewhere flat is definitely a two person job. Getting through the initial setup & into the meat of it was easy enough & I had “expert” settings ready to go to give me the best picture.

& what a picture it is. For movies the blacks are nice & inky. The colours are rich & pop out at you & with this being the Evo panel, HDR content really shines. The sound is rich & clear & is certainly a stepup from my old plasma.

The only downside I’ve found so far, is when I recently visited the cinema & as you do, I couldn’t help but compare the big screen to my little 55″ at home & the G1 trounced my local cinema screen. This isn’t something I’d noticed with my old TV, but having used the G1 for a while now, the graininess was more prevalent & it didn’t look anywhere near as rich – victory for home entertainment! Speaking of home entertainment & as with most smart TVs nowadays, the G1 is compatible with the latest apps & has specific buttons for Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime & Rakuten built into the remote.

For gaming the G1 really comes alive & is the main reason why I wanted the G1 over any other set. As this was my 1st foray into HDR, the PS5 is improved no end & now my games look so much more vibrant.

Response time is up there with the quickest on the market too & the G1 just has me covered going forward & makes me just that much more excited about the future of gaming.

I used to live alone so I didn’t watch much TV in my living room. I recently got a roommate with similar entertainment preferences to mine, so we started watching quite a few TV series together. I had an excellent 55″ TCL TV with a great picture and sound.

wanted to upgrade to a larger TV as a Christmas present to myself, so I spent several hours over a 2 week period researching online. I made myself a chart comparing specs, prices, and availability, then headed to my nearest Best Buy with it in hand.

I was was pretty sure I was going to buy either a Sony 75″ X85J or a 65″ X90J, which are both the same price. According to my research, the 2 series were very similar, with the edge going slightly to the X90J.

That being said, some of the specs that were important to me tilted to the X85J. Best Buy had a lot of different brands and models on display, so I spent some time looking at some of the models that I had ruled out on paper.

After viewing several models, I agreed with my research that the Sony TVs had the best picture and specs for the money I was intending to spend. One of the displays they had was exactly what I needed to see, a 55″ over a 65″, right next to a 75″.

Seeing the 55″ over the 65″ quickly convinced me that there wasn’t enough size difference to justify spending the money for my upgrade, so I was leaning heavily toward the bigger screen. The sales rep that helped me had been with Best Buy for a couple of years and was very knowledgeable.

He pointed out the differences between the 2 models, then discussed my needs. He agreed with me that the 75″ was going to make me happier. The next challenge was whether or not it was going to fit in my SUV.

He borrowed a tape measure for me and we measured the box. I went out to the car and measured, determining that the width would work getting it in, but I was about 8 inches short getting it in lengthwise with the front seats as far up as I could get them and still drive.

I remeasured at an angle and estimated that if I took the headrests off we could rest it on the back of top of the seats. I went back inside with a big smile and said “Let’s do this. ” I bought the 75″, we opened it to make sure the screen wasn’t cracked, and plugged it in and fired it up to make sure I didn’t lose the “panel lottery.

” Everything checked out, so I went to get the car while he brought the TV to the front door. It took a lot of maneuvering, and I think he said 3 times “It’s nit gonna fit,” but sure enough, we got it in safely.

Once I got it home my roommate and I had it unboxed and up on the wall in about 1 minutes. Setup was a breeze, and the picture looks fabulous in my living room! Just a reminder, TVs look a whole lot bigger in your house than they do in a massive warehouse sized building with high ceilings.

Make sure you measure where your new TV will go before you buy it!.

I absolutely love this TV. The main reason is that Sony has the best processing of color. The color is fantastic, very natural, excellent color gradient, and the HDR pops just enough to make an impact.

Before doing my research, I thought Samsung or Hisense looked better because the color pops so much. However, I came to realize three things that were wrong with these brands. (1) the color pops so much that it completely misses the mid tones and everything looks unnatural.

(2) color calibration is way off. (3) they are terrible at reducing 24p judder. Sony has the best color and best motion. I don’t have that much space and didn’t want to break the bank. It’s the first year in a while I noticed Sony mid range TVs had 43″ models.

The x85j was the best bang for my buck. It doesn’t get as bright as the models above it, but it has all the processing power I need. Plus it has HDMI 2. 1 so my PS5 looks great. Some other perks: -I can control the PlayStation 5 with the TV remote -Google TV is very easy to navigate -the remote has a mic that you can turn off except for searching for things via voice, like on YouTube (though you can keep it on if you want Google assistant, but that’s creepy) -because it’s connected to Google, I could log in to my apps really quickly -the settings are very easy to navigate -i connected the PlayStation headset receiver to the TV’s USB port and I could use the headset with the TV Cons: -if you don’t update it it can very buggy, especially when using devices like the PlayStation and the switch, so UPDATE IT -sounds crappy but I have a low end soundbar -had some bugs with audio syncing at first, so I had to play around with the audio settings and make them very simple.

It seems the TV favors Sony surround sound systems and outputs to non Sony sound bars only in a very basic way.

The item doesn’t have the quality feel of a Samsung product, from the plastic look of the tv and the remote control. I had a bravia 12 years ago and remember that item really standing out especially with the sound.

My last tv was samsung and that still feels premium compared to this tv. The standard Sony web browser is poor and crashes so much that its not worth using. The OS is irrelevant if you don’t use any subscription services.

It focuses on these and if you don’t use them they get in the way because they are at the forefront of the OS. It’s a Google tv so Google should be at the forefront of the OS but it’s not and is in the background.

The app search is restricted and you can’t find all the apps you can on your phone. BBC apps still not available, itv too. You can get these on far cheaper tvs so this is unacceptable. Sound isn’t as expected, it’s a bit flat and not many profiles available to adjust this as with other tvs.

Same with picture, not many profiles and doesn’t handle fast moving images well. Wifi and screen sharing is really poor. My old Samsung still does this better the this Sony tv. Constantly losing connection and crashing so had to use a cable across my lounge for internet connection.

Full of bloat wear, a lot of apps which can’t be uninstalled and if you don’t use the big subscription services, ie, netflix, disney etc you’ll find the TV very annoying. Good points are, not much screen glare, better than the LG and Samsung items, PS4 connectivity is good and works seemlessly.

Has a designated slot once plugged in. Also connecting Bluetooth mouse and keyboard is also good, however, mouse does not work well, is too fast and so far can’t find options to adjust this so is useless.

I returned two LG 86′ UP8770PUA UHD Smart Televisions, due to serious screen clouding and vertical banding issues. Still, I thought the color, brightness and sound justified a third purchase. Due to the fact that I’d purchased my first two defective sets via Amazon.

com, I thought my experience would be different if I bought one from Bestbuy. I reasoned that Amazon was probably selling televisions that had been returned. Once the LG 86′ UP8770PAU arrived at my home, I turned it on.

Sorry to say, I still encountered vertical bands all over the screen. There are about eight altogether. I was so disappointed to see this defect for the third time. I was tired of returning LG 86′ UP8770 4K UHD TV’s, so I kept my third set.

Getting a UP8770 LG TV without major vertical banding issues is vertually impossible. After watching my set for about 4-weeks, some of the vertical bands seemed to dissipate. I’ve compared my set to some of the other well kknown brands that I’ve seen in stores.

The other brands have very clear screens with hardly any noticeable vertical banding or clouding issues. Still, I think the color, brightness and especially sound of the LG UP8770 makes it a good choice even with it’s obvious short-comings.

I just have to learn to live with the virtical banding issues.

I took a look at this t. v. at the store and thought it looked good, and the price was really nice. I always have a little bit of fear when I make big purchases that I won’t end up liking the product.

However, that didn’t happen here. We got the t. v. delivered and set up. After a couple of days learning about the t. v. , and tweaking the settings, I’m quite pleased! Some thoughts: -Whatever you think of the size in the store, it’ll seem bigger in the room.

We got this one, in part, because we have a rectangular room that is very big. We had a 70″ which never seemed big enough. This one, even in the overly long room still seems to have such a big picture.

Score one for the t. v. -I had read some reviews that it was not very bright. This, I suppose, could be true as compared to some other tvs. However, we have three big windows, south facing, and it hasn’t been a problem.

-Once we got the picture settings dialed in to our preferred look, the picture is remarkably good. Especially with a quality input like a Blu-Ray. -If you have a soundbase, or cable box that needs to sit under the t.

v. , keep in mind the t. v. sits pretty low. It’s only just under three inches from the surface to the bottom edge. -There are a couple of mild edge bleeds, but I’ve read they can fade with time, or that you can just barely loosen the screw on the back to relieve the pressure.

Even if I don’t do anything, and they remain, they are mild and only really visible on a black screen at night. All in all, I’m very happy in just about every way.

I’ve owned the 65″ 2022 for a month and a half. Here are my take aways as a photographer with a particular eye for image quality. – Beautiful 4k image with vibrant colours and brightness. Excels in this regard, and short of up close viewing is convincing as an artwork at a technical level.

Read on however. – Matte finish is exceptional and makes the tv usable day and night in our lounge room. This feature alone is the most compelling thing about the frame over other qleds. – The viewing angle is utterly atrocious.

Blacks turn to near purple at 30-40 degrees off centre, and saturation drops considerably, both vertically and horizontally. This means mounting it at eye level as an artwork degrades blacks and colour for seated tv viewing, and the inverse is true if mounted low for improved quality for seated tv viewing.

It’s very, very far from believable as an artwork. This is so bad in fact that even when viewing an image dead on in the middle the colours and contrast are dropping away in the corners. Don’t even get me started on how bad it is when approaching from the side.

I think if the tv were in a spot in the room where you didn’t have to walk past it, and if it was only used for artwork or tv alone the deficiencies could be worked around. – The grey and black uniformity when watching movies is worse than the 10 year old LCD TV it replaced.

There are massive light splotches in the middle, sides and two corners, so much so that details in dimly lit scenes are darker than the splotches. If the camera pans at its like someone smeared @#*& all over the screen.

The same is true of grey images, just with a different pattern. Then there are the super bright / discoloured vertical areas on the far left and right of the screen when viewing light grey images, i.

e as a computer monitor. The only remedy for the poor uniformity is to turn the brightness down to around 20 (40%). It makes the defects less obvious but it’s a very dim image then. – The ambient light sensor is insufficient at picking up subtle light changes in dim lighting, meaning the tv is always way too bright.

The issue here is actually that in my lounge room the tv itself casts a shadow on the sensor and therefore is ineffective. Unfortunately the sensor is tucked away under the frame and can’t be moved. This also breaks the believability of the screen as an artwork as it’s just glaring all the time.

Samsung don’t allow you to control the brightness of the screen via IP either so I can’t even build home automations to manage this externally. All in all, if you use it to display artwork in the background it’s ok.

If you use it for the kids to watch tv it’s ok. If you’re a photographer or an artist who has an eye for quality, stay very, very far away. It’s just not there yet for artworks if you’re serious. As a tv however if they actually release a version with local dimming like they falsely advertise this as having (they lie and say it has ‘Supreme UHD dimming’ which is just a marketing ploy) then it would at least help with their poor image uniformity issues and get it close to being a respectable tv.

Needless to say I will be returning this tv and opting for an oled or qled with local dimming and foregoing the dedicated art mode. As it is it’s a Jack of all trades and master of none, and you pay a premium for it.

I wish I had actually looked at this in a store and not bought into the marketing hype. I should have known better.

This summer I got Samsung’s The Frame TV based solely because I did not want the living room wall dominated by a huge black rectangle when I wasn’t using the TV. Unfortunately, I’ve been sorely disappointed by the TV.

The art mode only works so-so because it is not good at turning itself on when someone comes into the room. By far the worst aspect of the TV is its operating system. Recently, while playing Spiderman: Miles Morales on my Playstation 5 the HDMI connection frequently cuts out.

In this video you can see that happen at 13 seconds in. At that point I have been playing for about 20 minutes and it had already happened about 4 times. To make matters worse, sometimes the connection never comes back and I have to unplug & replug the HDMI connection in order to continue playing.

Sometimes what I plug it back in then the TV does not recognize what type if device it is. This issue is unpredictable but it does seem to happen more in during fast action with lots of effects on screen.

Before getting The Frame, I used the PS5 quite a bit with my previous 2014 TBV and never had issues like this. The OS is truly disappointing, especially considering how expensive The Frame is. Some other observations on it: — I have a Samsung soundbar connected to the TV.

I estimate tha more than 50% of the time that I turn the TV on it is using the TV speakers and I have to go back into the setting to switch the audio to the soundbar. The Soundbar is connected to the eARC HDMI port so even if it were turned off the TV can turn it back on.

— This TV’s multiview is really annoying. Anytime I cast something from a phone it goes into multiview unless if the TV was already in the same app. Turning off multview then takes 2 or 3 clicks. I’d like to be able to completely disable multiview but there is no option to do so.

— Its not uncommon that there is significant lag remote between button presses on the remote and when the TV registers the action. on one occasion it seemed like none of the button presses were registering so I pressed the button multiple times and then all the button presses happened all together.

On another occasion the remote was not working at all. I have to use the phone app to control the TV until I did a complete shutdown of the TV. — The home screen for the TS has ads for moves and shows that I’ve never expressed interest in and that I cannot remove.

I already bought this very expensive TV and I’m still being served ads. 00:13 HDMI connection from PS5 cuts out.

I purchased this television in mid-June from the Samsung website, and it was delivered in good time in early July. I have been using this television for approximately a week and a half as of the time of this review.

I find the television in general to be very good quality with good features for optimising its use for playing video games (the primary purpose I intend to use the television for), and I also appreciate the realistic simulation of a physical framed painting/photograph when in Art Mode.

My one major complaint, though, is the Tizen operating system that the television uses. It has very limited applications available to it, and does not allow me to download any video calling applications other than Google Duo, which I use infrequently.

As far as I am aware of, Tizen does not natively allow the installation of APK files for third-party applications not available on the Tizen App Store, and while I am attempting to find a workaround for this at the time of writing this review, it is highly disappointing that the ability to natively download third-party applications is so highly restricted.

I would recommend at least that many, many more non-streaming applications should be added to the Tizen App Store, as while there are plenty of streaming applications available, there are virtually no other types of applications, such as productivity (e-mail viewers, word processors, etc.

) or social (video calling, Text Chat, etc. ) applications available for Tizen. Aside from this, I am generally happy with the quality of the television, though I would have much preferred it if all the advanced features (such as FreeSync and 200 Hz refresh rate) were also available on the smaller models of this television, as I purchased a screen size slightly larger than I would have otherwise preferred due to the fact that any television screen size smaller than 55 inches did not include these features.

In the store, I saw little difference between the 65″ NanoCell 90 TV and its OLED counterpart, so chose the NanoCell because it didn’t seem worth the $700 price difference. Once the TV was installed at home, I was less impressed.

I’ll begin, though, with some positive items. The clarity of 4K images is amazing, and there’s a lot of 4K content. Pretty much everybody except Netflix provides it at no extra cost. The installed apps for Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+, etc.

work great and I’m debating whether an external Apple TV is really worthwhile, although it’s the only way I can run the Spectrum app for a few channels that don’t have their own app on the LG. That said, I’m feeling a bit of buyer’s remorse.

I realize this is not a top-of-the-line TV, but it’s not a budget model, either. First, the picture seems dim overall, except for the lightest areas, which can appear as blown out. People often look backlit and almost silhouetted.

I tried various picture modes, which gave varying results in combination with the AI setting for automatic brightness adjustment for ambient lighting. It helped a bit, but too many indoor scenes appear to have been filmed at night by flashlight.

LG advertises this TV as having advanced color accuracy, but some scenes have psychedelic over-saturated color and most are dull, muddy, and orange-ish. Maybe the advanced settings (contrast/brightness/color, etc.

) will make a big improvement, it strikes me that the default image should be well in the ballpark to begin with and these controls only useful for fine-tuning for a few discerning users. The 13-year old Sony HDTV this replaced has better color and contrast than this.

Blooming is a known problem with TVs, and this is worse than I’d expected. Maybe I’m spoiled by computer screens that display white text flawlessly, but white titles and subtitles appear to glow with blurry halos as though they were projected through a greasy lens.

It would probably be disingenuous to return this TV as “defective” (maybe it is, how would one really know), but it doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade aside from the size. I hope your experience is better than this.

I purchased this tv for a replacement to my 70in Samsung Tizen tv that my toddler attacked with a toy and cracked the screen. I planned on upgrading to this tv mainly for the hdmi 2. 1 gaming input to utilize the 120fps capability.

I read alooooot of reviews and now that I have had a bit of time with this tv I’ll save you some trouble. The tv does have a nice picture quality. It also has potent enough speakers that unless you need seriously loud sound or have a large open floor plan and want to hear it outside the house.

Would a sound bar improve the sound? Absolutely, because that is what they are made to do. I just do not view it as essential if you purchase this tv. I have noticed some bleeding on this tv where when the screen is pitch black in the lower right side it looks somewhat like a topographical map of Hawaii (the water being black and the land mass being white) trying to rise up.

It is subtle and I really can’t say I notice it while gaming or watching a movie, just when the entire screen is supposed to be black like at power on or off. If anything changes I will update my review.

All in all it is a good tv at this price point that has the 120fps gameplay rate. If you plan on using it for gaming, get it. If your just going to stream or watch movies, buy a 70in for cheaper. The 120fps — only on specific outputs so make sure you have it connected correctly— is a great feature ,but the only real feature that makes it better than any other 65in at this price point.

Now for the deeply disappointing part. I purchased my tv open box —excellent condition— what I picked up at the store was a horrible excuse for that. My tv was wrapped in bubble wrap with the power cord and absolutely nothing else.

No box No stand No friggin remote. It is a huge pain if you don’t have the remote for this tv so do yourself a favor and make absolutely sure you receive the remote for this tv or don’t get it.

I hate to say it, but I have to say to avoid this tv or any LG tv that uses local dimming. I was sooo excited to purchase this tv and get it home. But after a few days of viewing, a few things stuck out consistently and could not be ignored or gotten used to, And I tried for a month.

The way the local dimming is implemented causes u to watch shows with somewhat of a spotlight moving around the screen to focus on the bright areas. There was an area about a foot in from both sides that always seemed to not dim/light properly.

This made our eyes crazy. And if you turned it off, well the picture looked great and bright, but when viewing 16:9 content the bars on top and bottom were grayish(not black as when local dimming is on).

And the worse thing of all was that there was a whiteish area glowing in the top right corner that caused a glow on the whole corner. There were a few other glowing spots along the left edge of the screen but less noticeable.

The top right corner glow was about a foot in diameter and as I imagined keeping the tv for several years, could I get used to the glowing spots, NO and we shouldn’t have to. Oh, and the vertical blinds-like way LG displays the image onscreen caused the view from the side to be extremely dim.

So unfortunately I had to return the tv and purchased Sony OLED instead, GORGEOUS!! LG C1 OLED should be very good as well. But if u need to or prefer to stay with LED, then go with Samsung QLED, u won’t be disappointed.

The Q70 was delivered and installed by BestBuy. It worked great for maybe 4 months. One day I was watching a workout video and noticed a weird distortion in one corner, then realized the screen had separated from the back panel.

That separation then allowed a couple bugs to get between the lcd and backlight. I called Samsung who sent a tech a few days later who saw the bug and said it was an insect infestation (one visible bug) and that voided the warranty and he left.

I got ahold of Samsung via Twitter and got gaslighted by their rep and told too bad, so sad, there was nothing they could do. I tried the phone and got somewhat better results, insisting that they send a competent repair person or a new TV.

The agreed to look at it again. Today while I was at work the entire screen just fell off. I called the Samsung and told them no need to rediagnose, the screen fell off and broke, so send the tech with a new screen or whole new TV.

The wanted to know if I’d gotten an exterminator, etc, and admitted they were not planning on bringing any parts to perform the repair. Now they say they’ll try to get it fixed depending on what the tech finds on Friday.

We’ll see, but after having to reps just blow me off, and having to try multiple paths just to get an honest resolution isn’t a good sign. A TV that falls apart on it’s own after only 4 months should be replaced by the manufacturer no questions asked.

When consumers look for reviews, they want to know more about the products. Honest opinion about how good/bad the product is before they to commit to buy is important. It also is a good way for the manufactures to look our reviews and try correct their mistakes and to make better future products.

Sometimes people simply complain about the shipment or broken item which does not really provide tangible information about the product itself. Now about this TV Q70R 82″ size. I have had this TV for a few weeks.

I have spent a few hours to calibrate the TV to achieve the desired results that suits my situation. This TV a mid-level from Samsung in terms of pricing, and it is a really bright TV with bright vivid colors.

Samsung has always separated itself from other by providing bright colors by default, but you can adjust colors and calibrate the TV to your desired settings. The black levels are on par with what Samsung has advertised.

They are not super black like Q90R but really decent enough that you can enjoy your movies or TV shows. Next to LG, the Samsung TVs have one of the most efficient and smooth operating system. Going to Netflix Amazon Prime apps take a bout 2 seconds.

Navigating through apps are really buttery smooth. Shadow details are better than Q80R, but Q80R provides better black levels. Simply put the picture quality on this TV is simply fantastic. But there are some issues with motion blur and ghosting on 24fps movies.

No matter how you adjust the setting for “Auto Motion Plus” , you will still have motion blur. I called Samsung Support, and they even sent the tech support team to my house and you will still have this issue.

I notice this mostly on Netflix or Amazon prime videos. I do not have cable, but I do have Live TV from Youttube and I have not experienced this with any Sports. Bixby works most of the times, but you have to speak at a normal voice (not too fast), but Samsung has some work to do to make Bixby more user friendly, otherwise most people will get annoyed by it.

But right out of the box, the Picture quality for the average TV consumer is really great, and that is why I recommend this TV, knowing that you might experience soap opera effects and motion blur issues with movies that are filmed at 24 fps.

bought 11/2019. ota and streaming only. screen goes black with sound playing in the background. i can shine a flashlight at an angle and i’m able to reset the tv which i do twice a day currently researching other brands too bad.

faithful samsung owner. my last samsung lasted 10 yrs this one did not! bought parents samsung. loved this tv and with the price tag it was a disappointment. been hanging on wall since its arrival. time to give my $ to another brand.

Using Personal artwork requires using a USB to upload pictures to the TV or uploading to your Samsung account and logging into the account on the TV. Using a USB, all of the photos that I tried to upload were larger than 4k and the TV could not resize the images and use them.

That is a suprise as other TVs I have used have not had a problem resizing photos. One thing that seems to be missing is the capability to schedule artwork. For example if you want nature photos between 6am and 9am, and family photos between 9am and 3pm, and sunset photos between 3pm and 9pm, and Web Space Telescope pictures between 9pm and 6am, then you will not find that feature on this device.

That is why the 3 star review; the Frame is just a regular digital photo device with the most basic of shuffling and scheduling features. These to lack of features are the reason for the review title “Dumb Digital Photo Frame”.

The flush wall mount is not really flush like shown in the marketing pictures. The 43″ has a much better wall mount, and is nearly flush. The 55″ does have a gap and it is about the same space a painting or flat back picture would be.

My sits about 1/2″ away from the wall at the top and is nearly flush at the bottom. I did not use the included foam spacers on the bottom of the TV, otherwise it would have the 1/2″ space at the bottom also.

The frame around the edge of the TV is about 3/16″ further away from the wall than the actual back of the TV, so the edge of the units (both 43″ and 55″) can never really be flush with the wall, as you would expect with a metal frame picture with a hallow back.

Adding the Samsung custom frame pieces do not close this gap. The cable is poorly sized at only 5M long (<16'). It should either be 1. 5M or 15M long. The 5M length make a mess of wires if the control box is below the TV, and the 5M length is not long enough to make it up the wall to the attic and back down to an adjacent room to put the control box out of sight.

The control box has the USB connection, so don’t plan on putting that in the attic, however using a USB extension cable I did not try. The 15M cable is available from Samsung and is another $300. The “invisible” cables are not compatible between all Samsung TVs.

It would have been preferred if the TVs were $100 less and you had to buy a separate cable for $100, that way you could get the cable you required. We also have the 43″ 2022 model hung in portrait mode; when in portrait mode Amazon Prime does not work, nor do any of the other apps that do not allow for resizing of the display.

That was a suprise.

I returned it to be honest. I didn’t know there was a difference between BESPOKE vs. non-BESPOKE products by Samsung and Bezel meant for TV’s until after I purchased this item. Basically, my friend and I saw The Frame and even on display at Best Buy it was absolutely gorgeous.

After running to 3 different Best Buys, we , it was obvious based upon on conversation amongst each other in front of the sales guy we wanted The Frame for the flush feature and painting-like display.

When we both got home, after a 2 days, we were so disappointed it wasn’t the item we actually wanted or saw on display. There is a difference between The Frame with or without Bezel feature and I recommend verifying any product by Samsung prior to purchase.

There is a significant difference aesthetically and financially. My friend ended up keeping his but I had to return mine b/c I noticed the colors weren’t consistent across the display panel. There was a section of the TV in which the colors displayed were different than the rest of the image.

It is really hard to see but I can pick up on visual hues every well. Also, the black points were well achieved but in contrast, the brighter colors seemed more off and the balance between dark and light was not visually pleasing.

In fact, my brother had the same problem with a different Samsung TV model. These Samsung TV’s, however, were manufactured in 2021. Apparently, there is a significant improvement in the 2022 models and beyond b/c many had this inconsistency.

A huge deal breaker for me was the speaker sound. Recently, Sony Bravia changed up their technology and the speakers on the TV are insane b/c it comes from every point behind the TV display vs Samsung which in the speakers are set on the bottom in one location.

The sound level of a Sony Bravia at say 30 is the equivalent to a Samsung TV at 80. And it’s very annoying considering its rigid emitting sound from one focal point and the sound quality isn’t as rich as Sony Bravia.

My friend, however, he is okay with it and kept his TV. He was disappointed but he got over it. The price he purchased his for was a great deal for the size. He is a very picky person yet he kept it out of inconvenience to deal with the return process I guess and he had already mounted it on his wall.

It just depends. I do highly highly recommend making sure the TV is 2022+. It seems as though there is not much of a price difference yet significant difference in quality and change in technology. Hope this helps!.

Use case: this TV is going into a multi-purpose bedroom that is also an exercise room. This tv will only be used to display art content and look like a picture frame for most of the time. However, this will also be used to display workouts on an Apple TV via Fitness+.

I do not have much opinion on the built in apps and other Samsung software offerings because I disagree with their ad targeting, data collection and reselling practices. However, the cost of the tv is only as low as it is because of those data collection and brokering practices.

Would I opt out of most data collection practices if that could be easily done while not suffering a lesser software experience for my tv purchase. ? Yes, yes I would. Is that currently possible? No, no it is not.

The Pros: Good picture quality for the particular screen tech The complimentary digital art is attractive The one connect system is attractive in theory The Cons: The one connect connector cable is too dainty and not UL rated for hiding behind walls.

A UL rated option is available for an extra 300. 00 which is rather ridiculous considering that the VC point of This product is to not look like a tv. The included wall mounting solution is rather finicky and not at all particularly easy to level and mount (they’ve given the bare minimum effort in the wall mounting solution for the 43 inch model).
