20 Best 4-Season Tent 6 Person (2022 Updated)

I bought this based on the reviews that I found on YouTube and it was a very good purchase for me! Setting up and taking down the tent is very easy, even for just one person. The system of putting the tent up is quite easy and seamless and it only takes me less than 10 minutes to put it up.

The yellow/golden color of the rain fly is very attractive and it gets a lot of compliments, especially when they see the brand name! One really nice and convenient thing about the tent is that it has two entry way, which two persons can use either side so that they don’t have to clamber over the other when getting in our out.

The zippers work fairly well as they would snag at times, but not that frequent as long as you do it in a deliberate careful fashion. I also bought the matching ground foot print for it, which helps keeping the bottom of the tent cleaner and adds a tiny bit of cushioning from small imperfections of the ground.

During our first time using it, it got tested by heavy rain and strong winds. I made sure at the start to guy out the tent properly during set up. Aside from mud getting splattered inside one of the vestibules that was facing the direction of the wind, the inside of the tent was completely dry! A testament to the name brand perhaps! The only thing that made me return this product in exchange for something else is that I wanted a tent that I can stand in.

Otherwise, I would have kept this tent as it is that good!.

This has been my backpacking tent for a few excursions in the 2-3 night, 10-mile hike range, nothing too wild. It’s quick to set up (there are a couple quirks you’ll figure out after a few times) and take down and has plenty of space inside and enough but not too many pockets and loops.

Symmetrical so you don’t need to worry about which way goes where, you can always just flip around inside for whatever reason. I had tons of room for just myself (6′), could easily go smaller but at the same time I wouldn’t say it would be spacious for 2 unless you’re both small and pack light.

But we all know that already about any 2P tent. This tent is not the lightest or most compact by a long shot in this category. But it definitely lives up to its name. One of these trips we had a surprise storm, 12 hours of constant, serious rain.

I stayed as dry as a bone inside (except for my gear that was already soaked and wouldn’t dry in the humidity) listening to the rain for hours and hours, and later discovered due to my own setup the tent was lying on a puddle and never let a drop in.

So, I can vouch for its weather readiness and comfort, but if you’re trying to stay UL this isn’t the one for you. Casual 3-season backpacking in the NW, though, this is perfect for.

For car camping in a small vehicle, this is a lot of space in a small package. Generous for one, with a cot and a chair. Decent for two. Setup is pretty easy, be sure to READ the unusually GOOD directions through first, both sides of the page.

Poles are very long, so consider this when choosing site and before pounding the stakes in – need room to maneuver. The pole sleeves work well, setup was quick. As others have noted, the zipper seems frail, although blessedly quiet.

Also, Kelty could put toggles and loops about a foot below the rear fly velcro tabs so that the rear of the fly can be rolled up halfway and secured for better ventilation in dry weather. You can still do this, it sort of holds itself if you’re careful rolling it.

A clothespin would work, too. Front porch option is great, and unusual. Velcro tabs on fly front are also good, so you don’t need to use zippers for quick privacy needs. You can’t stand up fully, but enough to maneuver fairly comfortably.

Keep this design, Kelty – no one else has it in this size.

Solidly-built and functional car-camping tent. Ample space for our crew of two adults and a toddler. Easy setup. Pitches taut. Fun, retro color scheme. The guy lines can be rolled up into the attached sleeves when not in use.

Included stakes are heavy duty. The front porch awning wins the day as a stow area for gear or as a covered area to hang out. Initially I wondered how the tent would breath with just the one small vent, but the rain fly stakes out nicely creating airflow (not to mention the ventilation options provided by front awning system).

The tent easily fits back into the included carrying pack – no wrestling required. Cons: the front zipper is really tight and requires two hands to zip (may just be my tent, idk). No included ground sheet, which would be recommended to extend life of the tent.

Overall, this is what I feel is a best-in-class considering all factors. For a reasonably priced four person tent with some thoughtful product design, you could do no wrong with the Kelty Rumpus 4. Can’t wait for the next outing!.

This was the best price I found on the rumpus 6. Free shipping and no tax! I like the tent so far and I have used many different styles of tents. The front and back doors are handy. The front vestibule/porch is great and pretty roomy.

The zippers feel smooth and they don’t snag as easily as other tents I have. Setup is very easy once you figure out which end is the front. The rain fly attaches with snap buckles which is nice. Definitely get a footprint or tarp because the floor material is very thin.

We camped in the tent 6 days strait on it’s maiden voyage with no trouble.

This is a timeless tent design that I have returned to after using a domed shape tent the last few years. This modified original has more head room. It has two doors, front and back, both of which have inside zippered panels that can be closed for privacy or warmth, or left open for breeze and views.

It has four corner pockets for small items, and D-rings on opposite peaks to string a line to hang a few wet items or your lantern. Both long sides of the tent have screens, which allow for great air flow; the fly provides privacy and warmth.

This is a three season tent for that reason. The poles are lightweight aluminum and a classy orange color. The corner tabs are a good substantial webbing with metal grommets. It’s a great tent, I could go on and on.

I have a 30+ year old version of this tent from Eureka that just died. The old version held up against everything, year after year, with no leaks even in terrible rain. I have been looking to replace my old tent and when this modernized version came out, I was sold.

The spots where my old tent failed all seem to be improved with this new version. I have not camped in it yet, but I trust Eureka.

We use our Big House 4 Deluxe for car camping and on road trips. Very roomy and pleasant for two people, we sleep on our cots and place the dog bed on the floor, but this tent could easily accommodate four people on sleeping pads.

The tent has held up in heavy winds with gust up to 60 mph and has kept us dry in heavy rain, even when we didn’t include the vestibule attachment (we do love the attachment though, and often bring this along).

A very cheery home away from home! My only complaint, as others have stated, is that it would be nice if the doors had more extensive screen options for better ventilation and viewing the scenery. A small item overall though, and in dry weather it’s very pleasant to sleep with the fly off and view the stars from the top and side screens 🙂 We find it very quick and easy to set up, even for one person.

This tent is roomy and easy to set up, we were stoked to take it out! Unfortunately THE FIRST TIME we took it out the floor tore. There was a decent gust of that blew the tent over. The fact that it blew over is fine, because we didn’t have the guylines out, however we had a couple duffles in the tent and the floor ripped around one.

There were also a few tiny holes from ??!? We were shocked. Definitely expected the floor to be more robust given the price we paid for it. Wanted to love it, but overall, disappointed.

My wife and I were looking for more space after our first camping trip with our 6mon old in the Copper Spur 3. In that trip we discovered that everyone was much happier with the little one safely confined in his travel crib and that my delusion of a one-tent-for-all trips was naive.

So we decided to go bigger. And since we’re going big, might as well go Big. I’m glad we did. I spent some time researching the competition and was trying to decide between the Orbit 6, Wawona and the Big House.

Frankly, the looks didn’t impress at first (Marmot gets my nod there). All are similar in size and are arguably close in build quality. What was the deciding factor for us was the optional vestibule (with optional being the key word).

My wife also liked that there was a separate fly (vs. the Wawona) for star-gazing on dry nights. So, we cried (in theory) once and made our purchase. We spent a week in the Smokies at Deep Creek with the Big House 6 and its vestibule.

Overall, we were thrilled with the space. It was luxurious. It was amazing to be able to come in at night, stand up (6′ 1) while I got ready for bed: put away my headlamp in the upper mesh pocket, go over to my duffle (all of our luggage fits), change, etc without having to disturb the entire tent.

In addition to the travel crib, a Hikenture double sleeping pad (also a new addition and total game-changer), and our three and a half bags, a walkway in the center, we even had space for a small camping chair so my wife could privately feed our son.

(insert mind-blown emoji here). In the vestibule, we’d store our chairs and a travel table for the little one when we were away or at night to keep them secure and dry. But you already probably suspected the space would be there.

so here’s my take on the other stuff. Ease of assembly is good. It did rain (daily afternoon shower) and we kept dry. Breathability is acceptable. It’s not quite as breathable in hotter temps as the Wawona (don’t ask me how I know), but I expected that and it does have the benefit of a sealing off the vestibule (I suspect this tent will be more comfortable in dusty and cold conditions).

I did struggle with the zipper a bit on the front door; BA tout their weather flaps on their zippers and though I do ultimately think it’s a good thing, I found that it loves to get caught up in the zipper.

even at one point in the middle of the night managing to put a visible loop offset in the zipper (much to the delight of my wife who, despite the prospect of having an inoperable front door, thought this 5m middle of the night struggle was primo entertainment).

I can say that the zipper is durable because after exhausting all other options, I pulled on the thing as hard as I possibly could and managed to free and resolve the issue. So all’s well that ends well? With care (and probably some improved guy tensioning), this is an avoidable issue.

One other thing to note: this tent is huge. so presume you’re taking up the entire tent pad with this one; we went border to border on the pad front to back and took up about 80% side to side. Aside from a few minor gripes, I suspect this tent will serve us well for years to come.

Like my title says, this is a great tent for great weather. When the weather turns though, not so much. I have spent roughly 20 nights in the tent this year. The best part about this tent is how tall it is, which is also part of its downfall.

Set up is a piece of cake, but shorter individuals will have a very tough time reaching the tops of the front and rear to clip the poles to the tent body. The poles can be extremely cumbersome if you are in a tight space.

The tent holds taut and anchors well, unless there are strong winds which caused my fully staked and guy wired tent to fold and collapse in on itself. In wetter climes, we had what NOAA described as nuisance rain, which led to the entire interior of the tent being soaked even with the windows closed.

Overall I do not think this tent does a good enough job at being a tent to justify the price.

Recently picked up this as a garage sale item at the Bend store. The tag said that the prior customer didn’t like the ventilation. I figured there must be something else wrong. I quickly grabbed it and took over a part of the store next to the sleeping bags.

I took everything out of the bag and almost to the point of completely setting it up in the store, I could not find anything wrong. So I read all the reviews to find out the real reason someone would return this tent.

There were a couple that mentioned bad ventilation and others that mentioned it was no good in the rain and weather but just as many and more that spoke positively about it holding up marvelously. So for 60% off the normal price, I took a chance.

At the time of purchase, my wife and I were camping along the Cascade Lakes Hwy so we set it up as soon as we got back to camp. Setup did take a little bit of trial and error as the pictographs for instructions were not that good but after about 20 minutes we figured it out and realized that the design was actually quite simple… just a really poor set of, or lack of, directions.

It was about 3pm at this point and about 90 degrees so we were immediately able to play around with the ventilation. I could not find any issues. It certainly wasn’t an air conditioned hotel room but air seemed to get in and out just fine and later that night when it cooled off (we were at 5k elevation) I adjusted the window flaps and all was well.

At about 2am I awoke to lightning and thunder and soon after that came the rain. The rain continued off and on through most of that next day, sometimes at a downpour and sometimes just a sprinkle. I secured the side window flaps and throughout the day not a drop of rain got in the tent.

The only thing we didn’t experience that day was snow and hail but somehow I believe it would have passed that test as well. Get this tent is all I can say. I imagine this will be the last one I buy.

Overall, pretty dang impressive how big the space is for the 8p, lots of room for 8 people and their stuff (although my wife and I use it as a duo for tent glamping!) The vestibule is nice and big, there is tons of room inside and perfect for car camping when you’re not going to be moving sites daily.

Owing to it’s size, it takes a while to set it up and tear down. It’s not hard to set up, just takes about 15-20 minutes. Inside there are a nice amount of pockets and the ‘wall’ dividing the living quarters was nice to have when I stayed up reading and my wife went to sleep.

The tent ventilated reasonably well all closed up in a wet rainy environment and was pretty comfortable in dry warm weather with the windows and vents opened. We ended up using it in a few days of heavy rain the first time out and did have some water ingress along the seam where the rain fly for the double wall section attaches to the single wall tent body.

Maybe 4-5 tablespoons for 2 full days of rain. Some aftermarket seam sealing did the trick to keep water out since then, but I was a bit disappointed for how expensive it was to have to seam seal on the first use.

Overall, I’d recommend the product if you’re looking for a HUGE tent, but buy some seam sealant to go with it.

Purchased the tent Memorial Day Sale 2022. First use was 4th of July weekend near Bishop’s Castle. Size: I’m 6′-1″ and was able to stand up to get dressed in. This was my first tent I’ve been able to do that with, and it was such a convenience.

Floor space; I had a queen size air mattress and there was still 1 1/2 feet remaining on each side, and probably close to 3 feet remaining at the foot of the mattress for clothes and and gear you may need.

The fly creates two vestiblues which I was able to have all of our shoes out of the tent and even our cooler to make lunch in the tent during the rain. The tent also comes with an oversized duffle bag and is extremely light in weight for what this tent has to offer.

Fantastic weather performance: When we arrived to our site, it was consistently drizzling, but setup was relatively easy being the first time. The corners of the the tent and and fly are color coordinated which I got lucky with.

There are only 4 poles which helped with ease of setting up. It continued to rain for another 2-3 hours after setup and all the water just ran the off the fly with no issues. Only minor issue was the inside floor got a bit wet during setup, but easily soaked up with a towel.

Night 2 was the same as night 1. Afternoon rain for almost 3 hours which, not one drop made through the fly or the tub. Fantastic! Night 3 was very minor rain, but heavy on the wind. Laying inside, the tent was so tight (even without any guy lines), all I heard was the wind in the tress, not one piece of fabric was fluttering.

I only wish I got to experience one night without the fly to see the stars. I don’t really have many cons. I would say my biggest inconvenience was, which is pretty minor is with my height, squeezing in through the fly was a bit tight with it cinched down tightly.

The other is that the picture shows two tarp poles making a little shade canopy. Those are not included, but can be purchased and maybe I missed the info somewhere, but discovered it in the carry bag with the setup instructions.

So that was a little disappointing to find out. All in all, a fantastic tent that I would buy again. It also didn’t hurt that with the sale discount, I got it cheaper the the 4 person version (at full price).

The Aurora Highrise is surprisingly simple to set up. We practiced our first set up in our great room with “help” from our 2 and 5 year old grand kids. Other than wrangling our little help-monkeys and yards and yards of gorgeous blue fabric, it was a straightforward process.

The rain fly has color-coded straps to assure that the correct sides are aligned. Slightly shaped aluminum poles snap together quickly and thread through sleeves along the top of the tent. We loved the handy sewn-in pockets for headlamp, keys and phone.

The 6 person tent will be great for when we’d like to keep our mountain bikes secure and dry overnight — there’s of room for 2 people, gear AND bikes. Heavy duty zippers, tabs and hooks all worked flawlessly with minimal hassle.

Extra tabs and strings have been added where fingers need a little more purchase area for tugging. We loved those thoughtful touches. The air flow is a great improvement over our experience with Nemo’s Wagontop tent.

While we didn’t have any rain during our outing, the fly covers just enough of the vented areas to assure you’d have coverage from weather as well as adequate airflow. Having two covered entrances/vestibules is super convenient.

The durable floor fabric should stand up well for those with dogs, kiddos and traffic. Packing up in the morning was simple. Flatten, fold, roll and go! Tent, fly and separate pole bag slip easily back into the 12 x 12 x 36 inch duffel.

This tent is good from a design and layout perspective. It sets up easily and keeps you dry. Unfortunately I noticed small tears in the ceiling screen after a one week camping trip. At first I thought perhaps some campfire cinders had landed on it, but the screen is underneath the rain fly, which was undamaged and had no signs of burns.

I also think the windows were designed to save cost, at the expense of ease of use and functionality. I don’t like having to attach a bunch of loops to put the window flaps up. These should be zippers, just like my good old Backcountry 4.

There are NO tie downs to hold the wrapped up window flaps either. You are apparently supposed to roll it up like a burrito and stuff it in the small pocket at the bottom? This makes stepping on, tearning, and tripping over window flaps a real problem when you’ve got children.

I bought this tent because it’s big, comes from a reputable brand, and is almost $200 cheaper than the comparable REI version. However I am most likely going to return it and spend the extra money if the REI version has better window/screen functions (like zippers).

Overall I like the tent. It does what it needs to do, and has a relatively easy set up. But, the windows don’t zipper close, great for ventilation but I’m worried about rainier weather with it. There is a pocket where it looks like the rain would funnel.

In theory, it should be fine but I can’t know until I camp in the rain. The door zipper is easily snagged on the fabric, and isn’t one continuous track. The fabric on the bottom of the tent is also very thin! No rips yet, but it felt as if one mildly sharp rock could tear a hole.

The pockets for storage are basically at the roof of the tent. I am 5’2 and will be unable to use these pockets. My partner can reach them, but if you’re laying down for bed they’re useless. Again, overall I still really like it, but I don’t know how many camping trips I will get out of it.

Purchased a couple months ago and have had it set up and used once. Storage bag is smaller than I would have thought for the size of tent – but it is a bit heavy. I could not find a purpose made ground tarp so I had to make my own.

Set up was easy for two and instructions were complete and clear. The online video also helped in identifying which poles go where. Once up, there is plenty of room inside for people and gear. We use with only 2 people and like all the extra space for gear.

We have enough space for a small table and chair and can even store the bikes and other bits inside the tent when needed such as bad weather. Looking forward to more use this summer and will update review as I get more experience.

This Tent is high quality canvas and heavy duty stakes. Our first night in it, we were hammered by hail and heavy rain for hours. It stayed water tight with no issues. The only drawback is it does not come with a bag for storage and is quite large even when compressed and folded.

We found a XL waterproof duffle bag that works awesome but cost $120. I will be ordering the new version of the wall enclosure for the awning section as we will be using this tent for years to come. It is well worth the price tag.

Ho-ly cow. this thing is HUGE! When I first decided to go with this tent over the similar instant-up tent I was a little worried I had made the wrong decision. Yes, it takes a lot longer to set up and tear down, but in my opinion it is WORTH it when you realize the real-estate you’re creating.

Things to note: We have a family of 5, camp a few times a year, and typically stay on site for 3-4 days (an extended weekend or longer). The GOOD: –The space. it’s incredible to have headroom and walking-around room in a tent like this.

–Front porch. this hybrid area can serve as a mudroom or a bedroom if that makes sense, and it’s great for keeping bugs out of the main cabin. –Built like a brick house. during out first camping trip with this tent we had torrential rains for 30+ hours and major wind gusts and this thing just laughed at the weather.

Obviously it’s not going to protect against things like tree branches falling, but rain and wind didn’t affect this thing at all –the BAG! Finally a tent that actually fits back in it’s storage bag with room to spare.

Use the tent pole bag to roll the tent around – works great. The BAD (no deal breakers here!): –It’s heavy. You’re not hauling this thing much further than your car, but that’s also the trade off for the incredible space you get out of this tent.

–25+ minutes to set up, and the same (or more) to tear down. and much more difficult if you’re by yourself. Did a backyard test before taking it to the field and learned the hard way how to best set it up solo.

Stake it in BEFORE adding poles and it will save you a LOT of time and effort. The UGLY (Being super nit-picky here): –I wish the 3 sides of the rain fly over the main cabin curved outward to better cover the windows during a rain storm.

–Not a fan of the split in the material where the poles go through across the sides (grey and orange poles especially. ) Not sure why this isn’t one continuous sheath for the poles to go through, but perhaps that’s just a limitation of the manufacturing process.

It’s super annoying to have to fish the pole through the second half of the sheaths they go through. — The rain fly metal rings (for lack of a better word) on the black ground poles are not well-designed and two of them came out during the first set-up.

Not a huge deal, and I found a way to replace them with actual metal rings (keychain rings) for a more reliable anchor for the rain fly hooks. Despite my critiques (being overly critical in hopes it helps tweak future models), I still need to give this tent 5 stars because it is just incredible, especially for the money I paid (and THANK YOU for offering a military/veteran discount, Core!) Now this tent is clearly designed for a very specific use – big family, longer duration trips, etc.

– so consider this before buying, but if you are anything like us, you’ll find that the weight and the extra setup time is 100% worth the benefits gained from a large, high-celine cabin with front porch that keeps the dirt, rain, and bugs out of the main cabin.

This was my first time purchasing a Core tent after years of using the other C brand. I set it up for the first time pretty easy to understand. I was concerned with how tight and difficult it was to insert the pins into the poles.

I am hopeful that the next time will be easier. The tent is HUGE with plenty of room for my family. I am tall and really appreciate being able to stand up straight in the entire tent. I am excited about the amount of ventilation ability with this tent during the hot summer months.

The biggest issue I have is that there are already small holes at the top of the ten cross beam. A defect that I am concerned will continually get worse after each trip. Core customer service started out great with communication.

However, it has been over a week after I have reached out to them about the holes and it has been radio silence. I am still hopeful.

I only have 4 people in my family but wanted a tent that would grow with us (and our stuff). Some of the things I was looking for during my research were: screened in porch with a sealed bottom, large interior space to fit 4 comfortably, random perks like hanging pockets/pouches, an electricity flap for plugging things in, easy setup, and affordability.

I think this tent crossed those things off! While I wouldn’t think you’d actually want to fit 11 people in here, you probably could, though it would be a tight squeeze. For our maiden voyage, we only had one queen-sized air mattress and had at least 2-3 feet of space on either side (even more in front).

The front porch area is spacious enough to store gear or have a couple camping chairs and small table. There is a lot of ventilation and even with the rain fly on, it felt like we had decent air flow.

I can also attest to how it handles water, after personally experiencing getting caught in a multi-hour thunderstorm. For the first 30 minutes, there was no rain fly and plenty of rain, both in and out of the tent.

After getting the rain fly on, the rain stayed out for the rest of the night. This did result in us having to tear down and hang the tent out to dry, but I can now attest that it dried out fully in the sun and was able to be set up again later that day without any problem.

Set up and tear down were both relatively easy. Set up is easier with 2 people but could possibly be done with 1. Tear down is doable with 1 person as well. Fitting it back into the bag takes some trial and error, but again, doable.

The ability to stand in both sections is really quite nice. The only “downside” is that the tent is big and heavy, though you can’t really expect anything different for an 11 person tent. You probably would not want to take this backpacking unless your hike was very short.

Overall, highly recommend and can’t wait to camp again.

I recently purchased this Eureka Kohana 4 tent from Backcountry via eBay. I was attracted to this tent’s rugged fabric, burly aluminum poles, and very thick waterproof coating. I have purchased other Eureka tents in the past and have been very happy with their performance and value.

At first sight and inspection, the Eureka Kohana tents seem like great, solid tents. Unfortunately, the Eureka Kohana 4 and 6 person tents are brand new products from Eureka for 2021. Like many brand new products, these tents have their share of flaws and defects.

I found this out the hard way while camping a couple times in my new Eureka Kohana 4 tent during some steady rainstorms. The primary design defect concerning the Eureka Kohana tents concern multiple leaks emanating from the rain fly in the dual vestibule areas.

There are two areas in the rain fly portion of each of the two vestibules that cause the annoying slow leakage of water into the tent during rainstorms. Again, these leaks occur in BOTH sides of the tents in the vestibule areas.

These four total leaks then slowly drip water down onto the mesh doors of each side of the tents. The drops of water pass through the mesh of the doors and then drip onto the tent’s floor. You then end up with four separate puddles of water in the tent (two on each side) near the doors.

This problem is not limited to only the Eureka Kohana 4 person tent. Look at the review of the Eureka Kohana 6 person tent (by Richard I. dated 4/25/21) on this Backcountry site. You will find that the Eureka Kohana 4 and Kohana 6 tents are both plagued with leaks.

Unless you enjoy constantly mopping up four separate puddles of water IN your tent, stay far away from these two defective tents. Eureka needs to work the “bugs” out of both these brand new model tents.

Even though Eureka has taped all the seams in the rain fly of these tents, they STILL leak. Even though I applied a seam sealant to the external seams on the rain fly of my Kohana tent, it STILL leaks.

There is not way to remedy the leakage problem in the Kohana tents. They truly suffer from a serious design defect. An upper end brand new Eureka tent should not leak at all. Buyer beware!.

I liked the size of the tent and it actually packed in a fairly small package that was light to carry. The tent was easy to set up and had enough space for our 3 fairly wide sleeping pads and a few of our bags.

The body of the tent is mesh only so it’s pretty breezy and keeping heat in would be an issue on cooler nights. Unfortunately, on the only day it rained during our first time camping out with this tent, water seeped through the seams and started dripping into the tent.

Altitude was extremely helpful and prompt to fix the issue especially considering that we had another camping trip coming up. Though no other reviewers seem to mention a similar issue, I was too afraid to end up with the same problem if I reordered the same tent.

So far I like what I see. Full double wall ventilation seems pretty good as long as you can keep the doors partly open. It guys out in a way that I think it’ll be sturdy in the wind. I was able to put it up by myself for the first time in under 30 min.

That includes attaching the Guy lines. The steaks are trash but all steaks that come with tents especially car camping tents are trash. They’ll be fine for soft ground, I will probably upgrade to some heavier steaks.

There are 2 doors so you don’t have to climb over each other and vestibules on both sides to keep you gear out of the rain. There is no footprint that comes with it so I might make one out of tyvek or trim down a tarp.

Something to protect the bottom and make it so the ground under the vestibules stays dry. Also, there is not a ton of interior storage. It has 4 pockets 1 in each corner. Update: Used this today in the rain for the first time had about 8 leaks.

Seam sealing is no good wherever there is an internal Velcro loop or tie it leaks like crazy. My first impressions but what use is a tent that doesn?t keep you out of the rain?.

This is a great family camping tent. In addition to using with our family of four, we’ve lent it to a family of five (kids ages 8/6/1), and they raved about it too! Pros: – Great size: Spacious and easy to stand up inside.

which is likely true if you’re using a 6-person tent! But if you’re the solo adult with lots of tiny kids, prepare for a bit of a challenge. – Due to the lightweight materials, they’re not super super durable.

Our toddler dragged the heavy pole bag on asphalt, and it instantly got a few small holes. I don’t blame the tent-maker for this, I blame my kid! The bag still works fine, and it was a good opportunity to teach my kid a lesson about taking good care of our camping gear.

But if you need something completely indestructible, this tent might not be your first choice. We absolutely love the light weight, and will teach our kids to take good care of these higher performance materials.

Extremely happy! We’re a family 3 (2 adults and a 10yo) plus a large dog and with all of us and our gear, there was room to spare. The tent was extremely easy to assemble with easy-to-follow waterproof directions (for both set up and breakdown) attached to the handled bag.

We’ve now set it up twice now and each time took us less than 10 minutes to fully set up from beginning to end. It has excellent ventilation, a large entry opening, roof and side pockets for storage, and we all absolutely love the star view window! We slept without the rainfly the first night and second night with.

Construction-wise, everything is extremely well made, and the design is well thought out. The poles are very sturdy but lightweight, strong grommets and the tent is well reinforced so it should hold up for years of excursions and use.

Breakdown was also very simple and we were easily able to get it down and back in its carry bag with zero struggle. We all love it and look forward to creating many wonderful memories and adventures with our Peak1 Tent!.

My family got the Coleman Sundown 6- Person Dome Tent to use when I was young to go camping which we really enjoyed doing as a family most weekends every summer before my parents got a divorce. My father kept some of the camping equipment that was still in good condition at the family home.

So just a few years later, when me and my now husband, boyfriend at the time, had our daughter, we absolutely wanted to show her the simplicity and enjoyment you can have away from electronics. She wanted to help with everything!!! The Coleman Sundown 6- Person Dome Tent is fairly easy and quick to set up.

It DEFINITELY helps keep you dry as we learned one night when while my husband was trying to cook over the tripod, it started to pour rain instantly. Without thinking about the rest of the food, we ran into the tent thinking that it should stop pretty quickly.

Instead, within 1 min of us going into the tent to get dry, we hear noises from right outside the tent and a large group of about 30 raccoons came to take EVERY SINGLE ITEM OF FOOD WE BROUGHT!!! They were tag teaming by sending 1 raccoon in to grab a whole large box of donuts and run out.

Then another would come running right up, dig in the grocery bag and grab a whole bag of bagels, next one- cream cheese, next one- chips, then came over to our cooler that was right outside the tent to get our bottles of water etc.

All my husband, daughter and myself could do is stand there and laugh as we watched them out the window of the tent. We laughed all night UNTIL our daughter had to use the restroom and we were still surrounded by atleast 30 sets of raccoon eyes.

Let’s just say we NEVER visited that camp site again. Then a few years later the movers we hired somehow lost that wonderful memory maker of 2 generations just about 😢 But I would absolutely recommend that Coleman Sundown 6- Person Dome Tent to all the beginner campers or all the experienced campers who still love camping the traditional way.

Great tent. I set it up in my backyard, to give it a trial run (and seam seal) before taking it out camping. There are pros and cons. Pros: Carry bag – the tent comes neatly packed in a carry bag, with tent, poles, rain fly, ground stakes, door mat, and instructions.

Setup – Easy. Set up by myself, with rain fly, in under 15 minutes. Didn’t have to look at the directions. Only suggestion would be to put the word “front” somewhere on the rain fly to indicate which way it goes.

However, a quick glance at the packaging will tell you. Materials – the tent material seems to be of good quality, and should hold up well when taken care of. The zippers are not heavy duty, but i see no issues with them.

The floor is heavy duty tarp material. Screens – the tent has large screen panels on the “ceiling”, which makes for a great view when the rain fly is not on. There is an additional window, and screen on the door for extra viewing and airflow.

Floor Vent – there is a vent near the rear of the tent, which allows for additional airflow. Cord access – there is a small zippered panel in the front corner, that let’s you run an extension cord into the tent.

Other “Pros”: I got the Navy/Grey tent, and the colors are cool. Got some compliments from the neighbors on it. I like that the rain fly comes with the guy lines already attached. The interior gear pockets are fine, good for holding your phone.

Wouldn’t stuff them with anything heavy. There is a little “ring” at the center of the ceiling, to hang a small light. While you could technically fit 2 queen air mattresses, I would not. It leaves no floor space for gear.

I will put in one mattress, and leave the other half of the tent for my kids Pack n’ Play, and gear. It will fit the 3 of us comfortably. However, unless you intend to get cozy, I wouldn’t advise this for 4 adults (but it could be done).

Cons: Stakes – the stakes are just ok. they are the generic skinny steel ones. I would recommend spending an extra $10 bucks and buy some good ones. Footprint – the tent doesn’t come with a footprint, though I imagine this helps keep the cost so low.

Not a big deal, I use a tarp anyways. Door Screen – the upper half of the door can be unzipped to reveal the screen window. I really would have liked if the entire door could be screen, not just the top half.

I also purchased some Coleman Seam Sealer, and sealed all the seams inside the tent, and the rain fly. Some of the seams are taped, but it’s just good practice to spend the time to do this, no matter what brand/cost/etc tent you have.

It saves headache down the road. Overall, I’m very pleased with the tent, and the cost. It will work well for short camping trips with a small family, couple, or individual.

The bag in which the tent and it’s related rods or pins come, is nicely packed inside. Instruction manual is stitched with the bag so it was helpful in windy weather not to worry about it being flown away.

The tent was big enough for a family of three and a dog and had ample space left for keeping something overnight inside that we didn’t want to left it in open. Installation as well as dismantling was really easy.

It comes with small foot mat sort of thing. The flooring is already stitched in it in case someone is worried about keeping extra tarp. Extra tarp is not needed with it. The windows are given that can be opened or closed and few pouches stitched inside to keep your bottle or something in it.

Overall, it was a good experience in camping using this tent.

My email to North Face. I just wanted to touch base with you after my first experience with my new Wawona 6 tent, the one with the separate rain fly. Basically, I just want to know if I should expect the bottom of the tent to be completely waterproof.

We had decent rain for about an hour and the rain fly protected the top of the tent but a puddle of water made its way between the bottom of the tent and the footprint. This was around 8pm and by 8am the next morning the bottom of our tent was wet inside, as the water had seeped through.

Is this normal for this tent? Thanks. Their response. I am so sorry to hear about your camping experience in the rain. I don’t think you can expect the tent bottom to be completely waterproof. If the bottom of the tent got wet inside it may have been at an angle for the water to flow in.

High quality gear, very lightweight given it’s spacious interior and folds up into a relatively compact bag, no need to press down to fit everything in the bag. Roomy vestibule is a great feature of this tent.

The only con of this is that you cannot use a rainfly without needing to set up a vestibule. Not so much of an issue but could have been more flexible this way. We haven’t tested it a camping yet – looking forward to it.

But I tried to pitch it at home – everything fits just fine. Totally worth it’s price. We are going to use it for 3 persons – 2 adults + 1 child. Found out that Wawona 4 is not roomy enough for 3 person and some gear and maybe some extra space just in case.

So decided to try Wawona 6 and glad we have chosen it.

This tent was very easy to put up and take down, even with no instructions included. There are two black poles, one for the front of the tent and one for the fly. I guessed wrong the first time I was setting up, so I found a video online to check and switched them around.

We camped out in the living room the first weekend we got it because it was going to be storming all night (didn’t want to be in a tent during a lightning storm with three little girls). We all loved it.

So many pockets, and I love that I can stand up all the way through it (not just the middle). 6-people would be way too close for comfort. We had a disc-o-bed bunk (amazing by the way) set up, which took up a lot of room, but we had two adults, a kid, and a Great Dane on the floor beside it.

We had plenty of room. Great family tent! In total we had two adults, three kids, and a very large dog in the tent.

I’m very impressed with this tent. It’s the simple design that makes it stand out above most other tents. This is by far the biggest tent that I’ve ever used but since it’s a family tent the size is still well within what I would expect.

I believe the weight comes in right around 16 and a half pounds which does seem heavy but we are using this as a car camping and canoe camping tent so I can live with it. The closures are extremely smooth.

I love the big D closures on the tent body. The only thing that I would change as far as closures and entry points go is I do not care for the double zip flap on the one side of the fly. I would much rather have two D closures on the fly and move away from the idea that I’m going to bring trekking poles with me to set up an awning that really wouldn’t protect me from a whole lot.

My other only gripe is the amount of stakes given with the tent. So there’s four corners on the tent and then for each fly there’s two points to anchor. These all have stakes but in my opinion the two most important stakes that you could possibly put in this tent would be to stake out the side of the fly.

Staking out the side of the fly is critical because it will allow you to use the tent with minimal condensation. It seems to me that the choosing to save a few cents by not including stakes for the side fly Guy out points is a pretty bad decision.

So basically add two steaks and I think this would be the whole package deal. Other than that I’m super impressed, the floor is bomber, the pockets inside for lighting are awesome all the extra storage pockets inside were great.

My wife and I have three kids and the amount of pockets gives everyone a safe place for headlamps and phones or whatever else they might need. The vestibules are perfectly sized, they give us plenty of space for storage of shoes and gear and allow easy entry and exit.

The basic shape of the tent is perfect and allows us to use it in every spot that I had to so far. Many of the oddly shape tents and longer tents don’t fit on camping pads and that can be a real pain in the butt.

I currently own four tents all from different manufacturers and the quality and design of this tent is equal to if not better than my previous favorite solo and two person tents from Big Agnes and MSR.

Keep up the good work but next time don’t cut corners and add the two extra stakes!.

We bought this tent with the intent of taking our family (6 people, 4 kids) on a trip to Glacier National Park and several other state parks this year. It was a large tent and simple to set up, though we did buy heavier duty stakes to secure it into the ground.

Our whole family fit, including a pack ‘n’ play, with no issue. Storage space was incredible, as each corner had a pocket at the top, and there were pockets throughout the base of the tent for books, glasses, and flashlights.

The tent did not come with the awning poles, though, which was a minor inconvenience. More importantly, the rainfly did not perform well, as we dealt with water dripping in from above during our nights of rain.

The fly also did not function well over the vestibule/storage area, and could benefit from an additional staking loop in the middle, to keep water off of the wall and out of the tent. The biggest negative, however, is that the tent does not stand up to wind in the least.

At the end of our trip, the two main (not pre-bent) poles ended up bending to 90 degrees and one snapped, while every other pole has mild to significant bending. One of the velcro straps also tore away from the rainfly, rendering it useless.

We loved the space and storage in the tent, however the overall performance left us disappointed for the price. I would recommend this tent if you are certain that the weather is fair, but if there is a chance of rain or wind then something else will be more suitable.

We recently purchased this tent and took it out for a camping trip in the Olympics. There were frequent showers, but no sort of major rainfall for any significant amount of time. Maybe 5-10 minutes at best.

It probably lightly rained 50-60% of the day. After less than 36 hours the rain fly already started to give and it started raining inside the tent and woke me up at about 4AM. All the gear we had hung in the vestibule area also got soaked.

The way the vestibule is built also allows water to pool right above where the zipper is, and even with both sides of the vestibule staked out, every time you opened the door, water would pour on your head/back as you got in or out of the tent.

There were also not even enough stakes included to stake down all points of the tent, let alone guy lines. It’s appalling enough that for the price you don’t get a footprint included. There should at least be enough stakes to properly set the tent up without having to use your own or improvise a solution.

While the tent might be 63″ tall, the interior is closer to 58 or so. Standing was a no-go. On the plus sides, the tent was easy to put together. It was returned to REI the next day.

I try to buy quality things so I don’t regret a cheap purchase in a year or two, and this tent is everything g it says it is and more! I bought it last week and used it on a family property the pst four days.

On night two, two of the worst storms I’ve ever been in came through at midnight and again at 3:30AM. It was the first time I ever used it, and I got two high-wind horrible storms. There were tornado warnings in the area for both.

Not only did the tent survive (and me too luckily), but it did not leak a bit and took no damage! The awning came loose, but not a stitch was busted. Weather reports say there were 70 MPH sustained winds! When I emerged from the tent in the morning, there were trees uprooted on either side of me.

Insane night to be sure, but this tent was nothing short of amazing. I’ll never buy another brand but Kodiak Canvas again. Worth every penny and then some. Quality matters.

This tent is heavy but if you camp close to your car (or dont mind lugging this thing around wherever you go), this is the best tent out there. I bought this tent for my family of 5 and its been perfect for traditional campsite camping.

Its easy to set up, spacious, extremely strong, and keeps water out as good as any other tent I have used. My current Kodiak canvas is 5 years old. Ive used it a couple dozen times now and it still feels like its new.

If you take care of it, this tent will last for years. Long story short, dont fall for the trendy, thin, flimsy tents at the fancy sporting goods stores. This tent is waaayyy better!.

I’ve had this tent for about a month and have used it on several weekend trips. So far it’s been just fantastic. It’s really easy to set up and take down for a 6-person tent, and I can do it myself (I was concerned it would be a two-person job.

While 2 make it easier, it’s definitely not required). The steel poles, the reinforcement points, everything seems really well made and very solid, which is why I got a Kelty. The headroom is awesome- I love being able to stand up in all corners of the tent.

The vestibule is a decent size, and there are a decent number of interior pockets. It has tons of space to sleep two adults, a baby in a playpen, and two dogs, and it’s great to be able to put the baby in there to play during the day as well.

A couple of minor things I would do to improve it: I do wish there were two doors in order to be able to get some air flow on warm evenings when I want to leave the rain fly up to keep out the morning sun.

We unhooked the back of the fly and rolled it up, which works ok. Second, I wish the door had one long zipper instead of two so it could be opened in either direction. Finally, the seams between the wall and the floor are right on the ground, rather than coming up a few inches like a bathtub style.

I haven’t used it in the rain yet, and the sealing looks solid, so I hope this tent holds up to Kelty’s great reputation. But these are pretty minor complaints for a very solid tent. I would definitely get it again.

I bought this tent a few weeks ago to replace my 10-year-old 12-person tent. I used it for the first time shortly after receiving it, and my only regret is that I only had one camping trip left for the season! I love the screened-in construction of the tent that allows for beautiful views and air when the rain fly isn’t needed.

I kept the fly on only because I sleep on a cot and there would be zero privacy, but if I had a more secluded space I would have kept it in the bag. One nice feature with the rain fly is a vent on the back that allows for airflow.

Even when it was hot outside, the tent did not feel stuffy. The height of this tent, along with the steep slope of the walls, is what really struck a positive chord for me. I am 6’3″ so I always struggle in short spaces.

The height in this tent was absolutely awesome. The amount of floor space was great as well; two cots and gear for two people and we had plenty of room. We could have easily fit more in if we needed to, but I will likely never have more than a couple of people in this tent.

I was nervous about downsizing from my 12-person, but I was not disappointed. The only downside for me on this tent was the weight and cumbersome nature of the main poles. These steel poles are a lot heavier than I am used to, and the design makes it a bit challenging to get them through the sleeves.

I can put it up myself, but it is definitely easier with help. Overall this is a great tent. I like it so much that I intend to purchase the 4-person version for my son as a gift. Well worth it!.

Bought this tent for rafting and car camping to give us more room than in our backpacking tents. The tent held up well to strong canyon winds, and has performed well on week long rafting and camping trips.

Thankfully, I have not yet had a chance to test the waterproofing of the tent, so I cannot comment on this feature. On the down side, the poles are really heavy, and this makes the whole package only suitable for camping with some kind of vehicle support.

Secondly, the pegs supplied bend pretty much as soon as you look at them, so purchasing a stronger set of pegs is a pretty good idea. I found that erecting the tent is really a struggle unless you make sure you stake out the corners before you try to insert the poles.

The instructions point this out, but I managed to miss this important step and the resulting frustration is not something I would wish on anybody. Once I figured this out, setting up and taking the tent down was a whole lot easier.

It is certainly nice to have a helper or two, but definitely not too much trouble for one person once you have practice. Overall this tent has performed admirably and provided a spacious housing for three adults plus gear for multi day camping trips.

It will sleep four people with no trouble, and has a modest vestibule to store shoes and small bags.

Does not at all fit 8 people. Does pop up though. Great for a couple

I purchased the original one almost 30 years ago 2nd hand from a friend who upgraded to the six person model. Initially, set up can be problematic but rapidly improves once you you have done it a few times.

Just give yourself about an hour at the first go. This tent was ideal for two adults and two kids and was used mainly for dry weather camping all over California. Set up can take place in less than 15 minutes if it is a team effort.

It performs flawlessly especially in high desert wind storms and keeps out the high elevation mountain cold. After years of use, the elastic chords on the poles and rain fly stretched a little and the water proofing seam strips on the fly came off and the zipper on the haul bag gave out.

Nevertheless with a new sealing, the tent is still totally usable and has been passed on two my teenage kids. I recently replaced it with the newer model and also purchased the optional floor liner which makes cleaning easier.

I love this tent and would highly recommend it to young families looking for a compact capable unit for remote Jeep camping where it’s weight is not going to be a drawback or to empty nesters who can now haul a pair of cots along instead of the kids.

My recommendation would be to replace the stakes with 8-10 inch landscape nails which perform better on hard ground once the original stakes can no longer tolerate the abuse. With some reasonable upkeep, the R.

O. I. Would be 20 year+ of safe, comfortable, dependable shelter in all kinds of weather. This tent is way to heavy for back packing, but is great for Jeeping, hunting horse camping, beach camping or any activity where you do not have to actually carry it on your back.

It was good to review the video tutorial before setting up the tent. The set-up is pretty straight-forward. If you follow the instructions, you shouldn’t have a problem. The tent can be set up with one person, which is what I did in my living room, yet it would be faster and easier if there was a second person to assist.

The material is very sturdy, the best I’ve seen. The tent will fit 4 people and their sleeping bags without extra gear -or- it’s spacious enough for 2 people and their gear. I’m looking forward to using the tent.

I’ve viewed a video from someone who has had their tent for 8 years and spent a night in the tent during a storm with 80-mph winds and 2. 25 inches of rain barreling down on them. Whereas everyone else’s tent was demolished, this tent only suffered a minor tear in the rainfly from a fallen branch.

I hope I never have to go through that kind of experience. However, if I do, I will feel much more at ease in doing so.

I purchased the 8 man in 2004 and have used it multiple times a year. Every year, before turkey season, I pull it out and use Seam Seal on all of the stitching. After the Seam Seal dries, I spray the rain fly with a tent waterproofing.

I then check all of the zippers. This tent has preformed flawlessly for the past 18 years I use it for hunting and family camping. I have camped in it when the temperature had dropped to 20 degrees to upper 90’s.

This past weekend I used it in Northern Missouri on a turkey hunt. We had some rough storms move through our area, with high sustained winds of 50-60 mph. We also had heavy rains for most of the night.

The tent and rainfly were tied down. The tent moved with the wind but we had no issues with the tent standing up to the wind and rain at all. I am very impressed how this tent has held up with just regular and preventative maintenance.

I first bought this tent about 2 months ago. Upon opening it and first setting it up, I realized that the gear loft wasn’t included with the tent at all, although it’s supposed to be and the tent seemed to have been completely unopened.

I had to return the entire tent and exchanged it for a new one, with all the pieces included. This tent I took camping for 6 nights. It rained for 3 of those days, and it held the water out entirely, although I did use a tarp for a ground sheet which probably helped.

I bought the Woods waterproofing spray based on another review, but I didn’t use it and don’t find it needs it so far. It breathes great with the mesh roof, doesn’t get a lot of condensation, and has tons of storage.

I like how you can entirely open up all sides of the fly to ventilate the tent, and the two full-sized doors on either side. I’m extremely impressed with the quality of the tent. I use it with myself and my boyfriend and it’s very roomy for two people, would be fine for 3 and tight for 4.

It’s 5’8 tall, so I can stand up in the middle which is great, and it’s very easy to set up and take down. However, on setting it up the ridge pole that holds the fly was very tight to put in and doesn’t sit properly, causing the pole to stick up from the roof and the fly to fold and create pockets which held rain water.

It still never leaked, but puddles of water sat on the roof. No amount of changing the way the tent was set up fixed the issue with the ridge pole, but I did not have this problem with the first tent I bought and returned.

Comparing the two pockets that the pole is inserted into, one is stitched into the tent a little bit off to the side, which makes the pole sit sideways in the fly and the entire fly doesn’t fit properly.

I’m going to try to exchange it for yet another tent, which will hopefully come with all the parts AND be manufactured properly. I am still overall happy with the tent, it’s annoying I had to go through 3 before I found one that was made the way it was supposed to.

I would recommend this tent to anybody, but definitely set it up and examine the way it’s made before taking it on a trip.

I bought this tent a year ago and love it. I was looking for a larger tent that had a height that would allow a playpen for my youngest to fit into and our family of four with a large breed dog. This one had the space and the height.

My husband can stand in the tent at 6ft taller. It has big beautiful windows as well to enjoy the fresh air and the views while camping. It is quite large but it very easy to assemble. I took the two kids and myself in this tent and was able to put it together on my own, the rain fly may be a little.

but of a challenge for a shorter person, I am 5’4 and it took a stool for me to stand on to get it on top without help on the other side. The tent is quite spacious, it would easily fit two queen air mattresses if needed, with some room to spare.

I used a double mattress single and was able to lay down some yoga mats in prep for a rainy day inside the tent for the kids to have a play area. There is also space in the vestibule that comes on either side of the tent for any extra storage that does not fit.

It has amazing airflow and while camping we were hit with rain during the night. The tent never leaked. The bottom lining of the tent admittedly feels thin. I would lay down some mats in high walk spaces, especiallybat camp sites with gravel, just to keep the bottom intact for long term use.

I am very happy with my purchase of this tent and would say 8 adults would be tight, 6 comfortably. Our family of 4 with a dog have plenty of space.

Woods Tent I am so very pleased with this tent!! It arrived about three days after I ordered it online. I had a problem with one of the poles, and left an email message on a weekend about that making the tent dysfunctional.

I received an email reply by the end of Monday and another tent in a few days which checked out fine. That’s speedy service for you!!! I bought it because most of the reviews are positive and some are ecstatic (and I’m one of them), because of the reputation of the company being very responsive and it fit all my “wants”: Two doors, two windows, roomy, fly comes all the way to the ground, under $200, rain and wind resistant, easy to assemble.

Here’s some of the features that make this a good tent: • It performed well in rainy weather, even without seam seal on the fly. (though I would recommend following this requirement in extended or monsoon weather.

) • All openings have double sturdy zippers. • All openings can be secured open or zipped shut. • The door and window openings on the fly can be secured open or shut. • There is a “vestible” for each door that can be secured to the ground to provide a protected entryway.

My camping chair fit into this area, as well as shoes and a wipe off cloth. • A separate pocket is provided and a hook at the peak of the tent. • Even the fly has a couple protected vents in it. • The carry bag is very roomy.

• It’s not overly heavy. I’m 80 and could carry and put it up with a friend easily. These are my recommendations: • Read the instructions before setting up the tent. Follow them. It’s much easier to use two people to lift the top pole first, bringing the bottom pole along with it, as shown in the picture.

• Since the fly does not come completely down to the ground on the window sides, stake them away from the tent a bit to protect from rain. • Put seam seal on the fly if you expect a lot of rain or snow.

• It was difficult for me to find the “pockets” that the fly pole went into. I used a marker to highlight them. • Be sure to take the tent down in reverse order; it’s easier that way. • I bought an 8×10 tarp for ground cover, especially good if the ground is rough or pokey.

It’s not recommended to have the ground cover extent too much beyond the tent as it can guide water to the tent. • I recommend two rugs for the entrances. • Bring along a mallet and stake puller. My recommendations for the company: • Change the label.

This is not a 4 person tent, unless they are all children (this is true of most if not all advertised 4 person tents. ) With my dog, her bed, and my gear, this felt roomy and big enough for us. It might be ok for an intimate couple and small pet(s).

• Manufacture the tent poles separately so you can replace those that are defective without having to replace the entire tent.
