20 Best 5 Gallon Water Jug (2022 Updated)

Wow this is really high quality. I have the 5-Gallon size and can’t stress enough how solid the build of this container is. The walls are crazy thick, and first impression is this would not only last my lifetime but also my kids.

I mean you could probably just flop a shipping label on this and ship as-is and not have to worry about it being damaged on delivery. I did a simple rinse and filled it up and stuck in in the back of my vehicle where it would get to 100+ degrees F (it’s been over 100 each day here).

I then tried the water the next day and did notice a bit of plastic taste. I looked online and this is normal and there were a number of recommendations on how to properly clean these type containers for the first time.

I tried the one with filling it ¾ and adding a couple tablespoons of bleach and vinegar and shaking, placing upside down, etc. This showed the seal was solid. I let it sit a while then vigorously did the whole shaking thing again before draining.

I then filled about half-way with hose water and did the whole shaking, emptying, refilling this about 3 times and let it air-dry. After a couple days I filled it up and then tried the water the next day and there was no odor and the plastic taste and gone.

I plan to use this for campaign and as emergency water. It’ll go into my normal routine maintenance items I do every time change and will be on my checklist to change out the water every time change (so every 6 months).

I have been using 2 5 gallon scepters for about a year now and just bought a 10 liter one. Yes, they have some smell and taste initially. You do have to clean them and age them a little bit, but then they are tasteless.

Yes, I have had the lid leak once when I didn’t have it tightened well. The O-rings have to seat correctly, but afterwards they are leak proof. You can always treat the O-ring with some silicon grease.

I carry one on its side in the back of my truck off road and it never leaks. The other great thing about these is that due to the thickness of the walls you can drill holes to thread things in. For instance I have threaded stainless steel vent valve opposite the big cap, and I have friends who have added hose bibs spigots to the side of the can.

The separate flexible spigot spout you can buy is also fantastic for gravity feed water. You will NEVER puncture one of these or get a wear hole in it like the the thinner Reliance ones.

I was very excited to find a water container that is not 7gal weighing more than I do when full. This container seemed to fit the bill. After reading reviews from REI and other sellers, I knew that taste/smell was going to be an issue so I scrubbed this container thoroughly by hand about five times, letting it completely air dry for about a week in between washings.

Then I filled it with water and stored that water for several months. It still had a bit of smell when I filled it but I hoped this would not affect the taste. It did. I opened it up yesterday and the smell was very strong; I took a small sip and it tasted terrible! The after taste was even worse and lingered.

This container is a great size and very thick and durable, but for $50+ (plus another TWENTY if you want a spigot), I expected the water stored within to at least be palatable. I went to EvilMart and bought a clear 3gal container for $6.

I cant run over it with a tank but at least I can drink from it.

Being in a camping trailer I like these water containers because of their space saving narrow design. They are thick walled and sturdy, so are long lasting. But on the down side, these water containers are poorly designed with no hand indent on the bottom or second handle, so keeps slipping from your hand while pouring water out of them.

Then the air vent does not work well. You have to pull HARD while turning to open it, and is impossible to close completely, so leaks water if it falls over or tips too much while moving them. Also, there is no spigot, so is only good for storing and transferring water to another container that has one.

Although I was able to make a spigot on the second try, as it’s tricky to find a spigot that will fit inside of the narrow neck, locking nut, flange, and all, then altering the flat top cap and using the washer from the pouring neck.

But after making a spigot I no longer have to deal with the slippery holding while pouring issue, and find the difficult air vent only somewhat annoying. So find these water containers suitable for someone on a tight budget.

But if you need a spigot and can afford it, you would be better off buying a container that comes with one.

We have a permanent camping spot in southern Ohio, and it was such a pain to take down gallons and gallons of our reverse osmosis water from him each weekend. So, she I was offered to try these jugs, I was THRILLED! I can pop one of these in the sink and walk away while it fills with fresh reverse osmosis water from out separate tap.

We take them to camp, pop on into our XL cooler packed with ice and other drinks, we put one under the camper for emergencies and use one for cooking! I absolutely love them! With the thick plastic, I know the sun won’t penetrate the bottles.

The water never tastes like plastic or anything either! Such an amazing product! Perfect for those die hard campers!!!.

Scepter is known as a leader in this market And they certainly haven’t backed down with this product. I love the quality of the BPA free plastics that are used in this product because you know they are going to last for many many years.

I received my six 5 gallon Coleman containers very quickly from Walmart. I recently filled all of them and stored them in the basement. They are a little heavy as water weighs about 8 pounds per gallon.

So take this into consideration when deciding on your choice of storage areas. It comes with a convenient valve that is included with each container attached to the cap , even though that valve is not that noticeable in the picture supplied by Walmart.

I washed them out initially with a small amount of water before doing the final fillup of each container. What can I say further. They do not leak and they feel like pretty thick plastic. And they are the right type of plastic for water storage.

They carry easily. A quality product.

For the price this is tough to beat. We typically take a couple of the arrowhead disposable jugs with us on camping trips, but we have a reverse osmosis water purifier at home so it makes more sense to carry our own water with us.

For a 5 gallon jug this is surprisingly easy to carry, and reasonably easy to find space for it inside the vehicle too. If it doesnt last more than a year or two thats ok, it was cheap enough Ill just replace it! Great for a makeshift faucet too.

This is a rigid-sided and reasonably lightweight water jug. The plastic jug is essentially built like a coleman cooler, without the inner wall and spray foam between the inner/outer layers. I am hopeful that it will prove more durable than my previous flexible/collapsible clear plastic jug of the same size.

That jug sprung a leak after a couple uses.

I was very happy to receive my BPA free Tritan water bottles. They were delivered very fast and each one shipped and packaged very well. These are great water bottles because they are very safe for storing drinking water with no contaminants from the plastic.

I like to store water in these bpa free water bottles to use in my Berkey System. These 3 gallon jugs are very easy for me to handle even while filled with water. I recommend these 3 gallon bpa free tritan water bottles for everyone who needs to store their water.

I’ve gone thru 4 five gallon containers. These are poorly made as they crack very easily. Even when handled with care. They’re way over priced ($25. 99 ea). Never buying these products again. Whole Foods should use a different product.

Arrived safe and sound. Use to store water and being a senior, 3-gallons is so much easier to handle and carry. Great purchase!

This Scepter water jug is very well made and durable. We get spring water to drink and store it in water jugs so we always have a nice supply of water to drink. This water jug has a large cap that you can open to fill it with water and it is attached so it won’t get lost.

There is a smaller pour cap and vent on the top of the large cap so you can fill your water bottle easily. The handle makes it easier to carry and take along camping, fishing, ect. We spend a lot of time outdoors and having a clean supply of water is very important.

The great thing about this water jug is that it doesn’t add any odors or contaminants to your water. I like how simple it is to use and the amount of water it holds is perfect for our family. If you are looking for a water jug then this is a high quality product that doesn’t leak and definitely won’t get damaged easily.

I would definitely recommend it and it works great for our needs.

The first time I used this container it developed a crease in the corner and the cheap plastic cracked and leaked within the first 24 hours. I have this container in an earlier model from 2015 and it is going strong after lost of heavy use.

The older model has thicker plastic. I can feel the obvious difference in thickness.

in the picture they show it sitting square with the nozzle at edge of table so you can pour drinks. What you get is a nozzle that sits all janky and half under the bag on a rounded bag corner. Where the nozzle is should have a square shape but it is rounded and sits crooked.

If you want to just haul 5 gal of water, its ok, but it wont sit correctly like in pictures.

These jugs are very durable and easily hold the 5 gallons of water. We use them when there is a hurricane warning so we don’t have to go out and buy bottled water. With 25 gallons (5 jugs), we have more than enough water to keep us for more than 72 hours.

BPA free plastic, so there’s no contamination to the water. Great buy; highly recommend.

Coleman is our usual go-to brand when purchasing coolers and other camping essentials. I really like how this chiller cooler handle is of one single mold so that the handle does not snap off or break when it’s filled.

The handle placement balances the container when it’s full for easier carry. I also like the on and off knob that is on the spigot, however, I did notice that it is tight when you turn the knob to turn on or off.

The good part of this also is should it start to leak the replacement silicone Faucet Assy can be replaced for under 15. 00.

I was surprised at how durable and sturdy this chiller was! It is large and works great for long outdoor adventures, sports games, or camping. It is enough for a large group or for a smaller family staying outside for awhile.

It keeps the ice water chiller very well. I am so excited to take this on camping and fishing trips this summer as I always try my best to stay hydrated during the heat, but I do love my ice cold water! This is so nice as it keeps my cooler free for food and other drinks.

I really like the Coleman 5 gallon water chiller. It’s dual purpose for me. I like using it for adventures and camping trips in the mountains. It’s great to use to transport water. It’s a great size.

We use it for hand washing, drinking, and for using to extinguish a campfire. It’s pretty solid, super light when empty, feels like it’s good quality that will last for years to come. It is also great to store water in just in case of an emergency I have five gallons ready to go.

I bought this to replace my longtime container that no longer seals properly. Unfortunately when I was out camping I discovered that when the lid and tap are tightened securely the tap points sideways which is obviously not functional, if I adjusted it so the tap points down then it leaks.

When I returned it the store clerk suggested that I didn’t use it properly and would only give store credit since it was used. How else would I know it didn’t work if I didn’t use it?!? I would have bought another one, but in the store there is a sticker covering the lid, so there is no way to test the function before buying.

Maybe I got a dud since these get such good reviews, but I might as well use my old leaky one rather than a new leaky one.

I bought 4 of these and I also found that, except for one, when the lid and tap are tightened securely the tap points sideways or upwards. I have been switching the lids each time to the one that points more or less downward but even it does not point directly downward.

I have tried our solution of tightening the lid clockwise and then the spigot counter-clockwise and the lid still leaks. Initially I bought 2, and when one spigot pointed in the wrong direction, I thought I was just unlucky.

It also seems over time the direction of the spigot worsened. I liked the size (both for transporting and storing) and that they are BPA free but I don’t plan to purchase these again unless this issue is resolved.

Purchased my second Pak this week. My first Pak I purchased last year, the water spout when assembled was pointing at 8 o’clock position. I purchased a replacement kit to fix this. Now my second one was doing the same thing.

Also the color of the Pak has changed to are more solid royal color blue. Harder to see the water level and with the spout issue that is a chronic issue with this product I am returning and looking for a new brand.

Hard to support Canadian made when it does not perform.

These are a 5 star BOTTLE, especially considering the price. I even got free delivery with a $35 combined order. The shipping alone must have cost Walmart more than the price of the bottle. However, there is a problem.

As others have said, caps sometimes don’t fit. My first 3 none of the caps fit, all too tight. I ordered some 53 mm caps from Amazon and they fit better but not great. I actually found a cap on a calcium suppliment jar I had at home and it fits perfectly.

It too is labeled 53 mm. The second batch of 2 jugs I bought just a few days later had great fitting caps, but guess what? It’s not the caps but the bottles can be a little big — there just is no perfect consistency in the world of plastic jugs and caps.

But again, I’m happy with the quality of the jugs and willing to put up with the cap problem. Over time I’ll save all the caps from the calcium suppliments and all will be good. For the time being all five have reasonable fitting caps and, even after an Amazon purchase for a couple of caps, I’m still way ahead of the curve on price compared to elsewhere.

These 5 gallon water jugs are great for water storage, but after a couple refills, the caps start to leak making them impossible to store on their sides. I replaced the foam/paper seal with a circle of silicone I’d cut from a cheap baking mat.

I haven’t had a leak since. The only other problem you’ll have with these is finding a replacement cap to use with your “spike type” water cooler dispensers. The mouth of these jugs is a non-standard size which makes it very difficult to find something that fits.

There are videos online that make suggestions on how to over come that, some involving cling wrap and cutting a hole in your lid. But I’ve found that on my dispenser, the spike portion is removable and I’ve never had an issue since I removed it.

The carry handle is very sturdy and secure. These will last a very long time if you take care of them. I don’t know if it’s explicitly necessary, but I sanitize mine ever 6 months or so to keep the water tasting crisp and deter bacterial growth.

I have both the three gallon bottles, for the water dispenser, and the 72 oz carry-on water bottle. The water bottles are BPA-free and have a rigid and tough structure. The carry-on water bottle is convenient for me, so I could encourage myself to drink water throughout the day.

I recently purchased the 72 oz water bottle and I have been finishing my water by the end of the day. Although the water is not temperature regulated, I would still recommend the carry-on water bottle for those seeking motivation to drink more water.

I have been using zero water since 2008. I have tried other systems but this is the best. I don’t know why more people don’t know about this company. I have 2 units of the 5 gallon water cooler 5 stage system.

I just put one in the office. I got tired of using water bottles and proved to everyone that this water was cleaner, better filtered than the water bottles. Two of the employees who drink alot of water, 8-10 big glasses a day, were drinking out of the faucet.

Now with the zero water, they taste a huge difference and can’t thank me enough. Don’t ever stop selling this system.

The bottom reservoir is meant to only be filled to the “maximum water level” line, which only holds 3 gallons. The capacity in the specs is 576 ounces, which is 4. 5 gallons. It can hold more than 3 gallons in the jug itself, but the max fill line is about 1/3 of the way down the jug, and it clearly states it will overflow if you fill it any more than that.

I was looking for an alternative to have filtered water without having to order water jugs or go to a water fill station because we go through a lot of water. This is kind of that. It gets 3 stars because it could be a great product, and it’s better than the 18 cup Brita we have, but I’m disappointed in how misleading the capacity is.

Recently bought this to replace another popular brand of water filter pitchers. Aside from the fact that it does what it says, I really like the education side of the product. There is plenty of information available about why you should filter your water and the water quality meter is a nice addition that helps you understand water quality.

Other brands don’t do this and just expect you to trust what they do. I have always been skeptical about how well these water filtration systems actually work but this backs up what it says. As a coffee drinker this also improves the coffee quality.

It really helps to make the flavor of the coffee shine.

I had some other bottles, but they did not say if they were bpa free or not. I purchased these because it says bpa free on the label. I have to fill these up and use them as drinking water, because Kingsland Texas water supply sux.

They have the nastiest water I’ve ever seen. It clogged my brand new coffee maker in a week. So yea, hope this helps!.

Purchased These So In The Really Hot Weather, The Crew Working On The Golf Courses Could Take Enough Water Out With Them And Keep The Water Cold For a While. Perfect Size. During The Cooler Weather When They Don’t Need Them, We Use Them In The Breakroom For Gatorade And Lemonade.

I purchased two of these coolers on sale and during a time of heightened need: while preparing for Hurricane Lane in Hawaii. While I also thought it would be great to have the coolers for future and happier events (like family camping trips or outdoor parties.

or events, like sports and such, for my kids as they grow), the immediate need was for me to have additional water storage in my home (since you need at least a gallon a day per person to consume in case of a major storm that stops your water supply; we in Hawaii were bracing for a possible major hurricane impact and what could then be two weeks or so without water).

I had one of these perched on the kitchen counter and another on a bathroom counter (just for storage), in addition to purchased bottled water and other filled containers of water. Except for filling one cooler a bit to high (not to the brim, but high enough that depressing the lid caused spillage), it was quite easy and mess-free to clean and fill the coolers.

I am no superwoman (nor am I tall at 5’3″) and I could heft the coolers up onto counters myself, though they do get heavy so that is not advisable for all. Thankfully, I didn’t need to use the coolers for survival (since Hurricane Lane decided to dissipate.

as did Hurricane Miriam after it. though we are now watching the tracks of Hurricanes Norman and Olivia. ), so we used the cooler to fill cooking pots and my kids enjoyed the novelty of filling water cups at home.

Overall, I am glad I purchased the coolers, like the piece of mind of having them for future urgencies, and also like knowing we have these bad boys for fun events with family and friends as needed.

Great quality, kept huge chucks of ice for 3 days and water was still cold on the 4th day. My issues are, 1. It dripped from the spout the whole time, which was annoying, especially in the car (I didnt realise until I got it out after a 90+min drive.

) 2. The attachment on the side is for a cup dispenser and Igloo don’t ship items to Australia, from the US (BCF don’t stock it. ).

These are well-made beverage carriers/dispensers. They are even stackable while filled. (The tap comes tucked inside the filler cap when purchased. ) Why only three stars? We bought this for refilling standard water bottles.

However, the tap outlet is the exact same size as the bottle tops. If only it were a little bit smaller in diameter, it would fit inside the bottle tops, and would have been a 5-star keeper.

I’ve had two of these rectangular versions for about 15 years now… and I still have the round version from over 30 years ago. Great for camping or backup water storage. No leaks. The only issue with both styles, is it is almost impossible to get all the water out for storage.

The design of the opening is recessed enough that water stays inside the lip of the top. I have to shake vigorously to empty as much as I can, then leave them open for a few weeks to get the last of the water to evaporate.

This doesn’t affect how well they work, only slows down the dry storage process. Would buy them again!.

I purchased this cooler to keep water in my vehicle for use with a portable shower – I open the top, put in the pump and away we go. The cooler itself is solidly made, and I have it tied down in my vehicle using two straps and the handles to hold things secure.

In otherwords, the handles are very sturdy as well. It has not leaked from the drinking spout at all. The only ‘complaint’ I would have is that the top is a bit awkward to open (only a bit) and close.

when closing, I have to be very careful not to mis-thread it. I can open with one hand, but closing typically takes two. Due to the easy potential to mis-thread when replacing lid if I’m not paying attention, I have given 4 stars instead of 5 – but that is really just me being very picky.

Water within it stays cool even on the hottest days (in a vehicle on a 90 degree day, all day, and at evening the water is still cold to my touch). I had looked at all similar coolers, and this one had some of the highest reviews.

Great. so far no leaks. no spout problems. If you want water to stay in it as you travel. this is the one to get. I bought another first that rhymes with pigloo first. I use it as a trash can in my garage.

The rubbermaid has been great for me.

I purchased three Rubbermaid 5 gallon water coolers for use with our running group. We use them every weekend and haul them all over the place filled with water and/or sports drink. My only complaint is the lids will leak even if they are screwed down correctly and tight if they fall over.

If you don’t put the lids on right, they will also leak while hauling them about as the liquid splashes inside the container. The lids sometimes take a time or two to screw on correctly as the threads don’t always line up correctly the first time.

Insulation is ok, about what you’d expect from a cooler like this. All in all, very pleased with the product as it has held up well over the last year of being hauled all over the place. One last thought, make sure you unscrew the lid slightly when you’re ready to use as it will sometimes create a vacuum which will keep the spigot from flowing.

Last year at the beginning of the pandemic we did the panic thing like others did and stocked up on water and essentials. I found the big 4 and 5 gallon bottles were less expensive and not as much recycle waste.

The issue was figuring out how to get the water out without one of those big water tanks like you see at offices or trying ot dump it. Therefore the search was on. Found this – now this is our third one as I keep one in the basement refrigerator cold, one for our camping trips or honestly road trips.

We put the jug in a big tub and we are not constantly stopped for water and spending so much. The USB charging is a game changer. It takes nothing to install it on the top of the water jug. With a push of a button the water comes out.

Definitely worth the price and now days this is very gift worthly.

I originally wanted a large filtered water holder but didn’t want it to take up so much room. I thought I would try this because it is obviously much smaller and takes up less room. I figured for the low price-why not.

I am so pleased with this device. It not only filters but it is rechargeable which is so easy. I didn’t need to read instructions-just put it on after charging and it works so smoothly. It is encouraging all of my family to drink more water.

I know that being properly hydrated is important and try to drink as much water as I can but sometimes it’s hard when it’s not convenient! This helps a lot with that. I live in an apartment so I didn’t want to get one of those big bulky water dispensers but i also didnt want to just keep on getting single use ones.

So this was PERFECT. I can get the big bottle so good for the environment and have the convenient of having a pump so i can put in my reusable bottle or glass! Definitely well worth it!.

Absolute must for summer picnics. My family has used this for years outdoors for every picnic or outdoor event. It keeps drinks cold for hours and is easy to refill. It’s cheaper too cuz this way you dont have to buy a while ton of different beverages.

Everyone always seems to go for the cold iced tea in the cooler anyway. This is a definite summer must have in my opinion.

I love this cooler. It was my go to cooler for fishing, camping and even competition bow shoots where I would have to walk alot of land to shoot my bow qt different sights and it kept our drinks and sandwiches cold also makes a wonderful seat if you need a break.

I have tested the items that are in my survival bag and they test out great. I have filled my water storage bags and my only wish is that they were stackable. It is my hope that none of these or the rest of my supplies will ever be needed! But if there ever is a need I know I and my family will be ready and protected, so Thanks!!.

This sure came in handy, as I rinsed it out, then filled it chock full, and shortly after had a plumbing issue. BUT i had 5 gallons of fresh water on hand until the plumber arrived – perfect timing! hahaha.

This is a great product.

Looks great but I do have a complaint. The top starts to come up on it not matter how much stuff you have in it. At first we thought we had over filled it but that wasn’t the case. A screw top would be much better.

Love it, we fill it with ice and beer by the pool as an open serving cooler. Also fill it with ice and water for sports, perfect size, good spout and lid fits tight.

I checked several companies and this was the best pricing available on this cooler. We have used them for years and know the quality of the product.

I purchased several of the 5 gal. containers as water a storage solution for my closet. So I could pull down 5 gal. of fresh RO/DI water when needed for a small batch of saltwater. In my experience, this are more one/two time use containers.

They all start developing leaks. I even tried patching the leaks which only worked short term. I woke a few times to my fianc freaking out at 7am due to the water and wet towels/items in our closet. I tossed them today.

Not worth it, get buckets or a larger more sturdy water housing!.
