20 Best 54 Zero Turn Mower (2022 Updated)

When I got to first turning the blades on, I noticed the belt was extremely jumpy, and after cutting a few swaths, I noticed smoke coming from the deck. Low and behold, one of the tensioner pulleys wasnt turning.

Someone at the factory used the wrong size washer on the top of the pulley and caused it to seize the bearing. This was the only quality issue I found, and after replacing it with a washer I had in the bin, the deck blades spun well, and the belt was smooth.

The mower is absolutely a blast to use. The setup was straightforward, and the controls and maintenance are very intuitive. I had a smile on my face the entire time I mowed my lawn – which used to take 60 minutes on my old lawn tractor, now only takes 15 minutes.

The quality is good, seems like they thought of everything. Except for a fuel gauge. Even my 25-year-old MTD had that. You can mow tall grass at full speed, and the engine doesnt even seem to notice.

The cutting is fantastic (very even). Its not crazy heavy either, so it doesnt put ruts in the lawn. Not sure the deck wash system is very practical, but I tried it anyway. Id recommend this mower to anyone.

Great first-time ztr mower. Its not a Gravely or an Exmark, but its perfect for what I need it for, and I expect it to last well beyond its warranty. Cant go wrong with Husqvarna and Kohler.

We purchased our Z254 in the summer of 2018 and it IS the a work horse. Until recently the only thing that we have had done is routine maintenance thru a local repair shop. Our model has the Brigg and Stratton engine and is running just as strong and reliable as the mower body.

Due to unforeseen circumstances with the repair shop closing and my husband is the only one able to work now. We are forced to do our own maintenance and replace the deck wash port, deck gauge wheels and a front tire/hub and chute.

We hope to find a paint tube to fix a few places that need touched up. These parts just recently has broken or became worn. We would recommend this mower to the world if asked about the durability, ease of use and the flat out quality of this CUT ABOVE any zero turn on the market.

I have worked with a couple of local commercial mowing companies and our Z254 SURPASSES in EVERY aspect to any of the machines they are loyal to. “DECKS DOWN!” I am sorry, I can’t post pictures of the mower.

Hillclimber, very stable, the engine is powerful. I’ve owned regular lawn tractors, and when my last one crapped out I decided to look at some zero-turns. I almost didn’t go with a zero-turn because I have very hilly property.

I read several articles comparing reg lawn tractor versus zero-turn and they all recommended lawn tractor over zero-turn for stability. I didn’t find this to be the case. Several spots on my property I’d get an uncomfortable/ queasy feeling with my reg lawn tractor.

Not the case with this mower. I don’t know, low center of gravity, wide wheelbase? Whatever. Comfortable, stable, powerful mower. I would recommend it. I’m only going to give it a 3 star for quality.

It seems to be of high quality but I’ve only run it for about 3 hours. I can’t fairly judge a machine on quality after that short time.

The packaging was so sturdy! Had fun taking it apart with my wife, 10-year-old son and a crowbar. It took less than an hour. The crowbar is essential. Ours was like 16 – 18 inches long with flat ends.

I didn’t know anything about riding mowers. It’s difficult to attach one side of the battery because it’s hard to reach. There’s no gas gauge. It comes with practically clear synthetic oil prefilled.

I filled it with premium gas and it starts right up. It’s pretty fast! I like how zero-turn mowers have a wider swath than non-zero turns. It takes much less time than my neighbors. Our 1. 5-acre yard has a steep slope, and it angles too.

It does not handle well at all trying to mow downhill when there’s an angle. But like I said, our yard is steep. If mows fine downhill, as long as there’s not much angle. You must mow uphill if there’s an angle.

We got the light accessory. It wasn’t too difficult to install. The light is always on once you turn the key. The seat is comfortable. Love the 2 drink holders. It’s so cool the way it maneuvers so closely around trees, bushes, and everything else.

We paid for the shipping via truck with a lift ramp. The driver wanted to drop it off way downhill at the start of our driveway. I had to talk him into backing up the steep driveway, which he handled quickly and easily.

It was no problem at all.

After using lawn tractors for many years commercially, the Z254 was my first zero turn and I must say I’ve grown to love it over time. Kohler’s V-Twin motor is super powerful and can handle anything you can throw at it.

The hydrostatic transmission is super smooth and powerful, but can be too powerful and rip up grass if not careful. Everything is fairly easy to replace and maintain. Spark plugs can be a bit challenging due to how tight it is, and the oil changes could be easier but that’s more the design of the engine than Husqvarna.

The deck belt is easy to replace and every greasable part on the mower is very accessible. The cut quality is good, but I’d recommend thicker Amazon high lift blades for better results. The gas tank is more than big enough, but has no gauge, so be careful when you think you’re running low.

Almost 400 hours in a year and a half and it has thrown no issues at me. With ~25 hour oil change intervals, yearly tune ups, and blade swaps every now and then, it will treat you right. If it can stand up commercially, it will have no problem for a normal homeowner.

I was hesitant to make this purchase but when my Husqvarna lawn tractor gave up the ghost after many years of service, I knew that whatever I replaced it with had to be Husqvarna as well. The Husqvarna 0% financing made it affordable for this widow with 3 acres to maintain.

It was a completely new experience and took some practice to learn to handle a zero-turn but it didn’t take long to realize what a well built, easy to use machine this is. It cut my mowing time in half and the lawn looks fantastic.

Yeah, I’m sold on Husqvarna and especially this Z254F.

I picked this mower up because my old Toro(2002) zero turn was going to cost me a fortune to fix. My dad(97) had purchased a Husqvarna RZ46i back in 2014. He was using it to mow 3 acres of grass and was wearing it out.

I bought this Z254F and promptly took it down to his house and traded him for his old Husqvarna. He loves the new machine-faster machine, additional 8″ of cutting width, three blades and a great uplift deck for beautiful lawn cutting.

He also really appreciates the spring assisted deck lift system and the nice cushioned seat gets a 5 star rating with him. So far it has knocked 40 minutes off his cutting time.

The 24 HP Briggs engine supplies more than adequate power and the 54 inch deck does a beautiful job of mowing even when the grass is too tall or heavy! With a mulching kit, this machine makes fall leaf cleanup a snap! The only problem has been the parking brake adjustment, which is not a limiting factor.

Love the removable foot plate for easy cleaning of the mower deck although the finger notches could be a bit deeper for large hands. Overall, no buyer would be disappointed by purchasing this machine.

This mower is a game changer for lawn care. It turns on a dime has great horse power, it does take practice if you have never driven a zero turn. It also has a lever to adjust the cut of the grass which is a big help.

The only thing I didn’t like was the directions were pretty vague but youtube has tons of videos if you need help. It comes with different speeds from rabbit to turtle so that’s helpful. It’s comfortable to drive and has a cup holder for hot days.

It starts right up and it hasn’t stalled out while I’m cutting grass. But the absolute biggest thing is to practice driving it, you don’t want to get hurt or hit the mower off anything. Once you get the hang of it you will never want any other mower.

Bought this thing last year, loved it. Cut way better than my old JD ridin mower, and a little more rugged in comparison. However, first cut this season and I hit something in my yard that jarred the middle blade enough to break the spindle from the deck.

I walk my yard regularly, remove debris (limbs/rocks etc) and keep things tidy, so this was totally unexpected. Now what?? I got a buy an entire new deck to remount the spindle?? This is potentially going to be insane.

Nevermind that the people at Lowes did not have the manual available for me at purchase. =/.

I wanted another Country Clipper like the one I bought in 2003 and gave to my Son 2 years ago. I could not justify its $9500 price tag! If Cub Cadet had parts to still build the ZTS model (steering wheel) I’d have bought one of those from the hardware store dealer that used to carry CC and who has provided good service through the years.

Bought this ZT1-50 for a reasonable price and it looks to be well built. My Son’s CC has a 19HP Kawasaki that is still going strong in its 19th season, so the 23HP Kawasaki influenced my decision for the ZT1.

Mowed for the first time today and have no issues with the quality of the cut or its lap bar steering. I AM going to have to trim all those low hanging branches I used to just push aside as I mowed. No free hand with lap bar steering – LOL.

BTW for $10 I’ve bought an inductive hour meter like the one I mounted in about ten minutes on my 2022 60HP Honda Marine outboard. And for $18 Cub Cadet is sending the deck wash fitting that I will also install.

People who care to provide good maintenance for their equipment should understand why Cub Cadet no longer installs parts that the majority of buyers simply ignore. For a reasonable price I also bought a replacement oil filter and air filter from them to put on my shelf.

Cub Cadet should, however, be ashamed of the quality of the Owner’s Manual and Replacement Parts List they provide for this machine! Printed on newsprint quality paper with several smudged sections. And they are filled with information with statements that it may, or may not, apply to the ZT1.

Come on people! You have reference to lubricating all grease points every 10 hours without listing or illustrating them (do they even exist)? They show a “break-in oil change” after 5 hours, while the Kawasaki Owner’s Manual makes no mention of any need.

They list the multi-tool functions to include using it as a “lockout for the deck lift” with absolutely no further reference to uses beyond 1/2 inch socket for lap bar adjustment or removal of deck floor.

And you list replacement parts without reference to which model they fit. Hopeful that this ZT1 last as long as the lawn tractor my father bought back in 2012.

My lawn has quite steep slopes +/- 20% in places and several tricky spots to get around and in and out of. I had used a Snapper ride on for the first two years, it was fine the 1st year but started losing drive and traction in the 2nd year culminating in a rather painful turnover.

So having read up a lot about mowing on hills I decided to purchase a stand on mower with a walk-behind feature. This would have worked fine I am sure but the drive/steering functions are not really meant for your resident weekend warrior.

Fine if you are a commercial guy using it every day it becomes second nature. For me it was like a trial and (mostly) error every time I took the stand on out. Honestly, it scared the you know what out of me every time, it was a heavy machine, 900 lbs or so.

Crazy. Then I happened to read about this Cub Cadet zero turn with a steering wheel. It was the first literature that featured mowing safely up to 20% slopes. So I sold the stand on and purchased the Cub Cadet.

Having used it now more than 10 times, I am totally impressed with this machine. It is powerful, fast and yes it will very safely mow 20% slopes. It is very easy to use and now I actually look forward to mowing my lawn.

Especially because it takes probably half the time as before. Very good clean cut too. Bonus is the CC is so maneuverable that I can now use it to mow a fairly large area that I could not before, which I used a smaller walk behind.

Saves me a lot of sweat and twisted ankles in the hot summertime. Summary: totally 100% satisfied with this mower. It safely, comfortably and efficiently mows hills as advertised. Just a great all round mower.

The 54 inch cut Cub Cadet zero turn mower places many conveniences and performance in the users control. The Kohler engines is famous for it’s performance and is a major reason I chose this zero turn.

But also the cutting deck size and the blade arrangement make this mower work better than my old zero turn. I have a few acres to cut with some trees to circle around and fences to get up close to. The ZT1 handles this fine.

Additionally the tires are larger and frame a little larger than my old 20 horse 50 inch. I can cut with this mower at higher speed and tge ZT1 is almost as maneuverable. This may be due to the “swirl blades” and the four inch greater cutting width.

I have some rough areas to cut and done uneven ground. The larger tires on this model allow for a smoother cut over this terrain. Oh, the foot adjustable mower deck is nice. You raise and lower the deck with your right foot and leg, and dial up the curing height.

Works well! A few things as I compare this ZT1 mower against my older model, I found while maneuverable this mower is on the larger size. It will not go several places the 50 inch smaller frame mower would drive and cut right through.

Also, while safety glasses are a must on mowers, they really are absolutely needed at all times if the blades are engaged. This mower with these blades has great “lift”. Cut grass, gravel, sweet gum burs and so forth fly out very strongly from this mower! Much more than from my old 50 inch! A great mower and I am very happy with the power, performance, speed of mowing, and general operation.

Let me start by saying the ZT1-54 by Cub Cadet has been a beast since I purchased it. It’s fun to use while mowing our 6 acres of uneven pastures and farmhouse yard. So far, so good. As for Cub Cadet, their delivery and customer service could use some work.

I called two separate dealers, who both told me they couldn’t order this particular mower because they were out of stock at the factory. Wrong. There were 1500 units available to ship at the factory, so I ordered one direct.

Once ordered, I probably had to call the company’s 800-number 6-7 times to get any sort of updates, to finalize shipping, and to get them to authorize the use of the lift gate on the delivery truck. I wish I had a forklift to unload it, but sadly I don’t own a factory, so I don’t have a forklift in our garage.

I honestly wish I could post photos here. The mower came in a wood frame crate, not steel and not solid, just pieces of wood stapled and nailed together on a pallet. To make things worse, they stack them on top of each other.

These things weigh hundreds of pounds, so the frame was smashed, and the mower had some damage. Lastly, when I wrote a review on the Cub Cadet website, their internal staff reviewed it and cut half the post so they wouldn’t have a negative sounding review.

How about some honesty and transparency? Overall, I would just appreciate Cub Cadet owning up to this. Will they? I think we all know the answer to that question.

First test run was a little rough riding but once I let the tire pressure out to the recommended pressure it was much better. I had an orange zero turn made by a company that also makes chainsaws. Both 24hp but with this heavy duty deck design it handles thick grass much better and at a faster speed.

The old mower would take two passes at times no matter how slow I went. Wish it had a switch for the lights, why? Also an hour meter for oil changes would be good. The only thing else would maybe be flat free tires on the front, was an issue on old mower, we’ll see on the cub cadet.

Old zero reduced mowing tome from 5-6 to about 4-5 hrs depending on grass height. The cub cadet should be in 3-4 hr range. First test run is fairly thick, lot of rain and it’s handling it great. Turns are much smoother, one of the things I like was the hard rubberish handles vs.

the foam covered type on most the others. Foam doesn’t last long in the Texas sun. Thick grass doesn’t bog down or even kill the engine like the old mower would and like I said both are 24hp. Haven’t evaluated the fuel use, use to use 5 gallons on 3 acres.

Not quite done so not sure of total gallons on cub cadet. Headlights was another thing I liked because there are times in the Texas summer when that as close as you get to pleasant mowing weather.

My girlfriend finally helped me pull the trigger. We have 2 acres that I’ve turned into an orchard so with your conventional rider it was taking quite some time. So first time out little hesitant on what my capabilities would be.

Backing up turns out to be really tricky for me haven’t put enough hours on it. maybe have an hour and a half on it. With this being said there is no hour meter on the model (only 60in. Model) bummer.

So hour meter is on the way $100 later from my toro app available in the playstore. Also purchased the recycling/ mulching kit from from third party thru tractor supply co. Reason behind getting the recycler is because the chute is quite large and keeps you further away from objects tends to be in the way and forces you to make a lot of left turns so you weren’t blowing the grass everywhere you do not want it.

Also makes the mower more sleek and now right turn capable. The bagger was just to big and bulky so that was a no go. And the mulched tips is great for your lawn. Love the feel of the mower like I said I’ve only ran it for about an hour but after going around our berries and 20+ fruit trees it was a breeze I felt comfortable after about 10 minutes.

It seriously cut my mowing time in half. I loved it. The MYride suspension felt like I was in my rocker just jamming away on my 3m worktunes. Thus far I’m happy with my purchase and I would recommend if you are on the limb about going from a conventional rider to a zero turn make the jump.

IšverstiShow in original languageSave your money and get something better! less than 100 hrs and its breaking down. Needs new battery already and one of the throttle arms just free floats with no tension because one of their cast parts snapped.

Its a minimal stress part and it broke. Needs to be sent in for repair (they say). The blower guard is brittle plastic, turn to close to a tree or any obstruction and it doesn’t bend out of the way, it just snaps and cracks off, already on my 3rd one.

DOES NOT LIKE TO START! They don’t know how to tune their motors, you have to crank it over and over and over and over and over and over and over before it starts. I’ve had to adjust the carb multiple times but it doesn’t seem to like starting.

And probably the most frustrating part, is it gets 0 (ZERO) traction. Flat level ground and it will just spin a tire when trying to turn. If the grass is damp or you’re on the slightest of inclines, FORGET IT.

Save yourself some aggravation and a broken lawnmower in the first year by looking to higher quality.

IšverstiShow in original languageTires tend to slip even in dry grass. The gas tank is small at only 3 gallons but will do right around 1. 5 acres. Overall, this mower has a superior cut and the deck clean-out ports do work (follow the owners manual on their use).

Seat is very comfortable. The easy ride system helps with rough yards but will require you to adjust to how it works during your mowing sessions (you tend to feel like you’re swaying at first). I would buy this unit again but like I noted, a larger tank and better gripping tires would be something to keep in mind.

My previous mower was a 20+ year old ExMark, so this change came rather reluctantly. I’m not disappointed.

We’ve had this mower for a little under one year. We have 3 flat acres that we cut regularly and the mower works great. Go extra slow over very tall grass and keep at a higher cut level and it works fine.

We also have 10 hilly acres of pasture. Disappointed here. If the terrain is anything but flat, the mower makes all kinds of noises, rattles, and strains — mower is being driven slowly. We can tell the mower doesn’t like it.

When the mower didn’t start, we had to check that connections were still attached to the battery. The spring broke on the side discharge chute and so the chute fell off. We will need to replace the spring.

The floor mat is not attached and has flown off the mower several times. It has gotten cut up under the blades and we finally took it off completely. Gasoline tank size is fine. We’d like it larger, but have had no major issues with its current size.

It just about holds enough gasoline for our upper 3 acres. Height Adjustment selections are fine. We wish our model had a “wash out” attachment so we could clean under the mower after use. We’ve put SLIME in the tires after they went flat because we had a lot of Mesquite trees with large thorns, and the tires have held up okay since then.

Again, the best thing about this machine has been the seat. After riding other zero-turns, this is the most comfortable, especially if you are cutting multiple acres for hours on end. I would not call it “a beast” like some people do, and wish it would not rattle so much during and after bumpy rides, but overall we are satisfied for now, as the cost of a tractor is out of reach for us at this time.

I bought the Toro 75315 mower the week after Christmas 2021 to save money before the spring price increase so I have only mowed with it once so far. I chose the Toro myride system based on comfort and thus far I’m very pleased with my decision.

The ride comfort is different than any other mower that I looked at. It mows very well and has ample power to keep it from bogging down in high grass. The price was reasonable and in line with similar machines when you added in the $500 extra they wanted for their premium seat upgrade.

On the Toro you rock with the rough terrain instead of being pounded up and down. In my opinion there is no other comparable suspension system in this price range on the market. Having had 2 disc fusion’s in my neck ride comfort is critical and the Toro MyRide system delivers.

Time will tell but as this point I would recommend this mower to anyone and especially to those that need the extra ride comfort this mower delivers. Thanks Toro.

I was wrong. I had a riding mower with a 54″ deck that I absolutely hated doing the yard with. 2 acres of bumpy yard that would have me feeling like I had went a few rounds of body blows, bumped around so much my insides hurt.

It normally took about two hours to cut all the grass because of obstacles, so much turning. Now cutting the grass is a pleasure. 45 minutes and all done. Bumpy yard but not a bumpy ride at all. I feel better after cutting the yard now than I do before.

I know it is a bigger deck, but the riding, no more doing great big circles to get back in the line, just a touch on the lever and all is good. This is a huge investment to someone like me, but the first time I cut the yard with it I knew it was completely worth it.

It’s like finding your yard’s soul mate. If you think this investment is not worth it, I urge you to reconsider. The MyRide feature, I can’t say enough about it. The best way to describe it is to say that after mowing the yard I don’t feel like I’ve been punched in the gut for an hour.

I did on my riding mower, all that twisting and turning and bumping. Thank you Toro for MyRide, you’ve turned my chore into an enjoyable experience, something I can look forward to. Once again I can stand on my deck after cutting the grass and feel good about it.

My yard has never looked better, it doesn’t miss anything. I go over a spot and I know exactly what it will look like after my pass. No more looking back to see if it left a streak of tall grass that needs to be gone back over.

One and done, saving time and sanity. Please do yourself a favor and give this machine a try, it is one decision that I will never regret!.

I’ve had my RZT SX42 for just over three years and it’s been great for my hilly ½ acre. Very stable and controllable on my steep slopes. There is a lot to like about this mower. However, It is has been at my local Cub dealer for the last month.

It just stopped running and they had to come and get it. Turns out the ignition coils need replaced! That’s rather unusual for any fuel injected engine especially in 3 short years of summer mowing in NW Penna.

To make matters worse, they can’t get the parts for another 5 weeks at best because Cub Cadet can’t supply any! So here I sit with my pricy mower in the shop waiting for pricy parts while I hand cut ½ acre weekly for the rest of the season.

Not happy This type of reliability and support might make you think twice before buying Cub Cadet.

I bought this mower and bagger to not only pick up grass but leaves in the fall as well since we have a lot of trees. My previous 2 Craftsman mowers did a great job with both. Getting a lot of age and in need of several repairs help make my decision to buy a new mower.

The Cub Cadet did an good job in the summer with grass but is near worthless to pick up leaves. So I spent the several hundred dollars to fix the Craftsman so now I have a summer mower and a fall mower to store and maintain.

I you need to pick up leaves too you don’t need to spend over $4000. 00 for this mower.

I just purchased this awesome mower two months ago; along with other fantastic Cub Cadet products. I have used this powerful mower every week; and enjoy it more every time. It is well built with a solid frame deck.

Mine has three mulching blades that do a wonderful job on any lawn. The 0 turn feature, on this easy to operate machine, cuts mowing time, greatly. The adjustable driver’s seat is very comfortable, with armrests, and a beverage holder.

I have also noticed that this mower is very good on gas. I can see many years of satisfaction and enjoyment with this, and all of my other Cub Cadet products.

We’re a couple of senior citizens, ages 82 & 90, maintaining several acres with a traditional riding lawn mower until our son encouraged us to get the 54” Toro TimeCutter MyRide Zero Turn Mower (75757).

The White Glove Delivery was extremely helpful and resolved all of our questions. Our concerns about driving a zero turn disappeared quickly as we experienced how easy and natural it is to drive this Toro.

A huge bonus for us is the comfort of the MyRide suspension seat and we are really impressed with the finished cut on our lawn using the Toro.

I have a 1. 5 acre lawn to mow. It’s big and it’s bumpy. For 20 odd years I’ve been bouncing around on various lawn tractors. It took 3 and a half hours to mow and my neck and back hurt for days. I just took 5 of them to the dump.

I finally decided to go with a zero turn unit. This Toro with its 54 inch cut, 7mph speed, and my ride suspension can cut the lawn in just over an hour and a half. After which I can get off and continue to work virtually pain free.

Switching from a steering wheel to the zero turn steering took a little getting used to and I did tear up the grass chute in the first 15 minutes. (Put trees on your left side when going around them).

I’ve only put probably 20 hours at most but I expect that the Kawasaki engine will out last the Briggs and Stratton and Koehler engines I’ve had before. With the Toro name backing this machine I believe I’ve made a good choice.

And no more aching back!.

Have an 1/2 acre lot. First time using a Zero Turn. Coming off using a 42″ lawn tractor with Fwd. /Rev shifter. What a pleasure using Z turn. Took a couple of times cutting to get used to new control system but now am quite comfortable with it.

Would never go back. I personally keep the Ground Speed Control on Tow setting as my yard has quite a bit of maneuvering around beds and trees. Works well and I’m never in a hurry to finish as it has become fun!!.

Make sure to adjust the deck peddle to further hole if isn’t already especially if have longer legs. The adjustable levers help get that perfect fit to your arms just make sure they are tighten good I mean really good or the lever will come undone.

Its weird and takes a second to relize whats happening, I was going under mulberry branches and it cause me to go all up in them it was actually pretty funny well I laughed. the only down fall well not really but dumb is that it doesn’t come with the hour meter have to purchase separate.

I bought at same time cause thats important to have and should be already on it like the older models. The oil drain plug what ever the red crap they used or He-Man put it on!!! It would not come off I actually broke a box end wrench trying to get it off, Had to use longer wrenches for more leverage.

So I clean all that out and used Teflon tape and its just fine now. also the arm rest should be on it too with the price of these things other than that its a fantastic mower.

I purchased this Stand On back in June of 2019. This was my first Huskvarna purchase after being in the commercial landscape business for 23 years and I have to say I’ve been very impressed. Pros. *Very compact great engineering, takes up less space on the trailer.

*Lots of power to cut thick grass properly at an impressive full out speed. *Super easy to service, check levels, oil changes, grease, spark plug removal for fogging cylinders and battery removal end of season.

Thigh rest pad flips down super fast for cleaning all areas. *Holds a slope so much better than any other stand on I’ve come across. it can also back up a hill unlike many others. *Looks unique, super nimble response, feels safe, 5 year warranty, Huskvarna fleet program for continued product savings.

Cons *Lost one grease zerk on blade pulley spindle ($0. 38 repair). That’s all. After running this machine hard for almost a full seasonI have zero regrets. It has been super reliable and provides a great cut that I am pleased to have at my clients locations.

It is priced right, this plus the fleet program and 5 year warranty has gained Huskvarna a satisfied customer.

I bought two of these this season I like both machines. I do wish the safety switch was in platform. I have seen there is never a reason to walk behind them and you need to rest your left hand at times and can’t because of safety switch.

I wish they had bigger rear tires and they were spread out a little bit. We put wheel spacers on mine and they hold a hill 100 percent better.

Easy to start and runs good. Hard to get the oil filter off. The auto transmission means that you use your toes for forward and heel for back. This is personally very difficult for me since I have a prosthetic.

I would like too cut my grass longer (5+ inches) but the mower only rises to 3 1/2 inches.

I guess I will start with saying that I was a little hesitant at first but my local Cub Dealer was very patient and let me take the machine home to test it on my very hilly property. Well I drove the machine around for about 15 minutes and could not believe the difference in handling and speed vs my lawn tractor.

So I decided to mow my lawn and was blown away by the performance versus my green lawn tractor. Not trying to bash the competitor but my green lawn tractor was bought new from dealer 8 years ago and progressively got worse at cutting last few years regardless of how many times I had the blades sharpened, replaced or the deck leveled.

My local dealer for my green tractor could not figure out the problem and this year it was leaving a uncut strip every 42 inches. So I decided to purchase the Cub Cadet SX48 and couldn’t be happier, plus my Cub Dealer gave me a good trade on my lawn tractor knowing it had a problem.

So after now owning the SX48 for 3 weeks I am still very impressed. I have been able to cut my mowing time nearly in half. This machine traverses hills/slopes like nothing I have used before and I worked for a landscaper for 4 years when I was a teenager.

This machine seems to be built very strong for a residential unit and has more than enough power in my opinion. Also the machine cuts better than any previous mowers I have owned. I am glad I decided to spend more and get a better machine, it was well worth it.

My only regret may be that I didn’t buy the Cub Pro Z100. If you are considering this machine (SX Series) you may want to look at the Pro Z100, that is a real nice machine but I couldn’t justify the cost for my needs.

I have 18. 8 hrs on unit. It does mow good and fast. I am retired from wrench bending and speed of mowing not a big plus. Mow about 3 acres mostly flat. Replaced a tractor 26hp with 54in deck. The 24hp kawasaki is under powered for this mower.

In thick or tall grass the engine does not have the tourqe to maintain speed of mowing. Needs a 28hp engine. The heat shields around the engine vibrate like a rattlesnake’s tale. Hate that. Fixed them with several bolts and rubber grommets.

Now just the steering column vibrates. That is next. The seat/steering wheel was very uncomfortable. Ended up elevating the seat 3 1/2inches to attain comfort for arms and legs. Now the seat can be FULLY adjusted.

The tractor steering was much less harder to turn. Going to look for a slightly larger diameter steering wheel to gain some mechanical advantage or look for and add on power steering. Like the grease fittings design.

Easy to reach. Mower deck great! Nice and heavy. Overall construction ok. Just lack of attention to detail and creature comfort. Wish the person that designed it had to use it. Needs real world input from consumers not just from the design table.

I’ve mowed about 5 or 6 times with this mower. The first thing I did was put it on my banks with video on & steering with just one hand. My first thought was WOW !!! “AMAZING”. I’ve had multiple brands of zero turn & tractor type mowers on these banks & was always afraid.

This mower does any & everything I asked it to do with no hesitation. I can turn it around trees on these banks & go up, down Across or even come down at any angle I choose. I’ve even mowed wet grass with no clogs.

This thing really blowed the grass out evenly. From the first day I started sending videos to friends and family & even landscapers I know & a few I would see out on their jobs about this mower. I mow about 3 & half acres with half of it is 20 degree banks of all different angles.

The only thing that I wish it had would be head lights & a little more weight on the front end. Again, Sorry for being so long on my review. Just can’t say enough good about this mower. “WOW” “AWESOME”.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is my 3rd cub cadet steering wheel style mower. The 2017 didn’t tear up the grass ever not once. The 2018 did so as this Z Force SX 48 does. They hold the hills of any kind amazing.

So much you can do circles on the hills and hold perfectly. Super amazing for hills! But the design with the slides sticking and binding up causes turf tear. I have to grease these fitting thats for the slides about every few hours of use.

I want to upgrade to the Pro Z in hopes it does not have this problem with turf tear. This mower is amazing other than the turf tear. The steering is hard at times because the binding up of the slides and it will pull to one side.

Maybe a cover over them would help slides would help. The seat is comfortable but the bumps in the yard you feel it.

I was the first person to buy the new EGO 52″ battery-powered mower at our local Ace Hardware store. Ace delivered it fully-assembled and ready to mow. My 16 acre farm property has about 3 acres of grassy areas and paths to mow.

For many years I’ve been using agricultural equipment, currently a 33 HP compact utility tractor pulling a 60″ flail mower. This rig can cut brush and very tall weeds as well as grass, but it is slow, hard to maneuver, loud, and challenging to maintain.

I wanted something more maneuverable, especially for around obstacles. I’d been considering ZTR mowers for years but waited for an EV model to meet my needs. This seemed like a more cost-effective way to do my bit for the environment than a pricey new EV truck or SUV.

So I was excited to learn about the new EGO 52″ model, which seems to be one of the few (maybe the only) battery-powered mowers with a fabricated deck this large and run times up to 4 hours (unless you get into one of the few, very expensive commercial EV models.

) Although this EGO mower probably is best suited to fairly level and smooth suburban lawns, in my opinion it also has potential for agricultural operations such as vineyards and orchards. It seems to be a good fit for my property (although it isn’t quite up to handling ditches, embankments, or heavily overgrown areas).

If you’ve decided a battery-powered “residential” ZTR is for you, then in my opinion, the EGO 52″ should be high on your list. That 52″ capacity and fabricated deck sets it apart from many of the residential EV alternatives.

Another great thing about EGO mowers is that the same batteries can be used all across their product line (in trimmers, blowers, etc. ) They can even be used in the EGO Nexus 3000 watt portable power station, which you can buy without batteries (in case you decide the ones in the mower are enough).

Unlike gas generators, the EGO power station can be operated indoors (assuming you’ve been careful to keep your batteries charged when power goes out). I’ve only mowed a few times with this machine. First impressions are very favorable for ease-of-use, cut quality, maneuverability, and build quality.

It is quiet yet very powerful too. The seat is very comfortable but the frame does not have a real suspension system (nothing like the optional “flex forks” that Hustler sells). So it’s a bit bumpy over rough terrain.

As is typical of many residential ZTRs, there is no ROPS bar. If you’ve never driven a ZTR mower, another potential safety issue is stopping the thing. You have to train yourself to pull pack on both levers to stop (like pulling in the reigns of a horse).

This was harder for me to get the hang of than the steering. In quite a few attempts, I was unable to get the iPhone app to pair with the machine over Bluetooth. This is necessary for firmware downloads.

Fortunately, a “Help?” label with a phone number is printed all over the manual, packaging, etc. I got through to the Help line pretty quickly, the assistant evidently was a native speaker of English, and EGO resolved the problem.

Another issue was that the control levers needed calibrating (because as delivered, it tended to pull a little to one side). The manual clearly explained a simple calibration procedure for this. The big question mark for me, going forward, is the quality and dependability of after-market service/support.

EGO has built an impressive retail sales network in the USA, and the Help line seems to be good. However, they may not have as extensive a network for local mechanical support, as some competitors (like Stihl and Hustler) do.

But then, AFAIK, the competition does not offer anything quite like this product.

Been using Toro ZTRs (42- and 50-inch) since 2005. Our place (3. 5 acres) requires mowing about once a week from May-Oct. I use a self-propelled Toro (22 inch) push mower for some steep areas. Physically, I am 6’3″ and weigh 220 pounds.

(I should note that I am a former helicopter pilot, and ZTRs are the closest I can come on the land to that experience. ) Toro ZTRs use belts, and we have a lot of trees (viz. twigs and gumballs) that periodically would dislodge the belts on the Toros, both blade and drive which led to downtime–sometimes for over a week.

The engines are loud (85dB) and kicked-up substantial amounts of dust so that I would need to wear a dust mask. Have been shopping for an EV for a couple of years, mainly because of the belt issues. Gravely was too expensive, and other makers’ models had questionable ability to climb inclines.

Other ZTRs are in development. One criteria I had is the width (with the chute-raised) had to fit through the opening in the mower shed. Lowes delivered the mower at the end of May, 2022 so I have mowed the entire area.

I could not get it to operate after charging so I went to the troubleshooting section in the manual and deduced that the seat safety switch was not connected. I removed the seat and reconnected the plug, and it operated properly.

It takes a couple of full charges to complete the mowing, which is similar to the refueling I had with the Toros. I am quite happy with the EGO because it is very quiet (75dB) and (so far) does not seem affected by the small twigs and gumballs.

Overall, the handling is precise, but I don’t think the EGO holds mowing on inclines as well as the heavier Toro. In the rougher parts of the yard, the deck tends to rattle excessively when bouncing (I mow at the lowest speed; though, it is speedy).

I did have an interesting situation that I backed-up while mowing and got raised up on a smooth rock wall so that the mower’s rear wheels would not propel. I had to remove the batteries (as per the operating manual) so that I could dislodge it from the rock.

The 4 acres of mowing on one charge must be for absolutely perfect, flat, treeless, dry, short-grass conditions. We’ve had our mower for about a month and mowed our grass ( about 2 1/2 acres of thick, fast growing grass that is getting a lot of sun, heat, and rain in June in Pennsylvania) 4 times, and the best I’ve done is about 130% worth of charge.

There is definately a sweet spot combo between mower speed and blade speed. Mowing thick grass with the blades on speed 4 takes a lot more power. The electric drive motors on the wheels are also MUCH more responsive than the old trannsmissions on our gas powered zero turn, which makes for a little bit of a jerky ride that takes some practice getting used to, so we’ve been using the control mode and not the standard mode and not even thinking about the sport mode (what’s that for anyway, lawn mower racing?) The mower is surprisingly fast, and has a lot more power than expected.

It does a great job cutting grass, although, like I said, when you cut the taller, heavier grass you need to use higher blade speeds, which really suck the battery power. On the other hand, charge speed is fast – 4 hours will charge the mower from 2% to 100%, with charging going much faster when the batteries are low, then slowing down as they get closer and closer to full capacity.

Mower deck design seems to accumulate a lot of cut grass that the deck wash doesn’t clean out. It’s weird being able to just get on the mower and go – no checking gas or oil, or greasing the spindles, or worrying about belts etc.

The quiet is great too. I still put in ear plugs when the blades are turning, but I’m not sure if you have to or not.

IšverstiShow in original languageI bought the mower on 9/8/2021. At first I was excited and nervous because it was my first zero turn. It did take some time getting used to the controls and getting them adjusted.

I get better every time I use it and I can’t wait till next year to mow the whole season. So far it appears to be a solidly built machine, of course I have only used it 3 times this year. Based on my experience with this mower, I would have given it 5 stars but it has one problem that shouldn’t be a problem.

I can’t understand why a company that bases the service of their equipment on hours ran to not have a hour meter. I would have thought that this would be information that was provided to the customer before purchase.

It would have changed my mind I had known this was the case and yes I have had riding mowers before and they had hour meters. So, I only hope that there is not something else that should be on this mower that was not installed.

I hope that Cub Cadet understands by not providing this meter that they should be accountable for any damages that not having this meter causes to the components of the mower in the future. How would Cub Cadet suggest that I keep up with the maintenance of my machine without this hour meter or other form of knowing hours ran There is a question below that asks would I recommend this product to a friend and I will answer yes but I would tell this friend to make sure the one he/she purchases has some form of hour meter of service indicator.
