20 Best 5W20 Synthetic Motor Oil (2022 Updated)

I bought the five quart jug of this Ultra Platinum. My wife and I have a couple of older Honda’s with high miles but, only our 2006 Toyota Sienna XLE can run full-synthetic without having a noticeable drop in the engine oil level every month.

My independent mechanic told me, if I’m going to use full-synthetic engine oil over conventional, to quit using the Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage Full Synthetic engine oil and only use the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic product.

I am unable to buy into the extended frequency of oil changing because I switched to full-synthetic. I still change every three to five thousand miles because all cars have some oil delusion from the gasoline blowing past the piston rings into the crank case.

So, I want to get the best Engine Oil I can find without paying too much, since I change my oil more frequently instead of less. I did notice that 3,000 miles after my previous full-synthetic oil change, 2006 Sienna, the oil still looks new on the dipstick.

So, perhaps I will change my oil every 5,000 miles instead of every 3,000.

Started using the Ultra Platinum 0w20 in my 2016 Accord Sport over a year ago. Initially I thought it was no different than a previous leading synthetic oil I had been using. After the first oil change using Ultra Platinum, I had some burn off and needed to add a little oil after 3500 miles.

Contacted Pennzoil about burn off in my 2. 4 direct injected engine and they recommended changing the PCV valve. I changed the PCV valve at 25,000 miles on the odometer, changed the oil again with Ultra Platinum and I have not needed to add any oil between oil changes.

I Check the oil at every fill up and it seems to stay exactly on the full mark when hot. I have to be honest here, I haven’t experienced this with any other readily available leading synthetic and I was a loyal M1 fan until now.

I will stick with the Ultra Platinum, it’s good stuff! Also my fuel economy seems to be more consistent compared to other synthetics I’ve tried in my car over the long run. Really glad I stuck with this oil and started using it at a low mileage.

Thanks to the Pennzoil Team for answering my concern and pointing out to change the PCV Valve and look for leaks. Changed my spark plugs too after switching to Ultra Platinum. Had some white looking ash on the ground electrodes and occasional hesitation to start.

New plugs, new PCV valve, staying with Ultra Platinum oil and occasional 91 fill up with Shell V power keeps this car running top notch. I’m a believer and a fan of this oil. I won’t use anything else.

Hope Pennzoil keeps making this oil.

I was a little apprehensive about the natural gas, but after I did some research and video watching I understood the benefits of it and also, I work at a Jeep dealer which uses it, I made the switch and was amazed at what it did!!! My grandfather used Pennzoil in the past with my first Jeep, Now I’m officially the newest member to the Pennzoil family! Now for my 2017 Jeep Wrangler 4 door Big Bear, I’ll be using the world class protection of Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic! I really recommend it for all of the Jeep models including my 2 favorite models, the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee! Pennzoil really does the job in the very hot heat and very cold New England weather.

So, if anyone has a Jeep, I strongly suggest that you use Pennzoil Platinum!.

So, when looking for a good oil to use when doing a DIY project why not go with what the manufacturer uses? AutoZone offers this product at a great price, and different size options. I’ve got an ‘04 Expedition with over 300k miles on it.

I’d like to think regular maintenance, and this great products like this from AutoZone got me there. I’m confident the same good practices will yield the same results on my ‘16 Expedition. For those that may be hesitant to do it yourself don’t be afraid to ask your local AutoZone parts guy what you need to get the job done.

I like everything about this purchase. The price was about $12. 00 cheaper than Amazon and it was delivered the next day to my door. The young lady that delivered it was very professional and nice. She helped make everything perfect.

1998 Tacoma, I used to drive this truck for 250miles/day, Using Castrol-GTX/3000miles. Soon as it reached 1500miles, gpm went from 20 to 17. I tried every things that people recommended on the internet to improve gpm.

sparkplug changed every 25k-30kmiles(do not use Bosh Platinum, just OEM Nippon Denso plug). Nothing worked. Soon as I switched over to Mobil1 Sync with OEM oil filter. My truck drove better, smoother, quieter and gpm remain @20gpm until the next oil changed which is 10Kmiles.

You can see the Viscosity of the oil remain the same, just darker. So I switched all my whole family vehicles(5 Toyotas, sedan-truck-van-SUV) to used this type of oil since 2000. Since I maintenance all vehicles myself, this 10kmiles oil change save me a lots of times and $$$$.

Let me tell you an impressive story about this oil. I gave my son the truck for his college years, in 4year. When the truck did not run(because of the MAF sensor clogged), he called me to come checked the truck, there was no oil on the dipstick.

DRIED!!!! Soon as I cleaned the MAF, I cranked the engine, it started right away. there is no issue with the engine. I still driving it now. over 200kmiles/24yrs still running like new. why buy new vehicles since mine run and looks like new plus paid off.

Started using Mobile 1 in a new 2005 CRV at the first oil change. Changed the oil and filter ever year. Sometimes with 8K on the oil. Sometimes 12K. I did the 100K plug change and checked the valve lash.

The plugs could probably last 200K. What was very impressive was the valve lash was within 0. 001 of being in tolerance. The cam chain guides had no wear and timing chain marks were dead on. The inside of the valve cover was clean and looked new other then some slight yellow heat stains.

Beyond belief. Been doing all my own work since the 60s. I know what is impressive.

Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W20 until 75,000 miles then Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W30. My wife’s 2016 KIA SOUL would crank and run with no issues right up until someone hit her from behind on the Interstate and totaled her car.

She was going about 55 mph and they were going at least 80 to 100 mph. The care was folded under, but the engine was running like normal while the Highway Patrol had to pry her out of the car and the Tow Truck guy had to open the hood and disable it to get the engine to stop running.

My wife suffered no injuries. We went and purchased a new KIA SPORTAGE and are using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Oil in it. Who ever buys that car for the engine is getting a solid KIA SOUL engine. At 200,000 miles we started using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 20,000 mile oil.

That Soul would crank and start like a new car. We have a 2001 Ford F-250 V-10 Triton Crew Cab and 2002 Ford F-250 5. 4L Crew Cab 4X4 and they both are above 200,000 miles and we run Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 20,000 mile oil in them.

I’m not one to purchase or use a certain oil simply because that’s what my vehicle’s manufacturer recommends. ESPECIALLY when that manufacturer brands and sells their own line of oil. Make no mistake, Ford is not manufacturing this oil.

They are purchasing it. It may have a few different additives but each brand does. Bottom line, it works well in my car. It doesn’t break down, and my 3. 0L Duratec doesn’t burn it. That can’t be said for all oils.

I am happy with the performance, no doubt. Would I buy it again? Yes. Would I exclusively use it? No. Would I pay more than another brand for it? Absolutely not.

Since 1994 I’ve used Amsoil in all my car’s engines, rear ends, and transmissions. All of the vehicles I used it on were still running good after 200,000 miles on my 1987 Toyota pickup, and 370,000 on my GEO Metro.

I sold the truck and it still ran. The Metro was totaled in an accident. I cant think of a better testament than a 3 cylinder engine going almost 400,000 miles.

Over time traditional oils degrade O rings and other rubberized or plastic components that they come in contact with. Not to mention the caustic cancer causing risks associated with these standard oils when they come in contact with you skin.

And after personally experiencing some valve cover gasket and engine seals starting to seep and slowly drip oil it was suggested I switch over to a full synthetic or blend to combat this issue. I think that was the smartest thing I could’ve done to remedy some of the problems related to conventional oil! I now own a pickup truck and I will only use synthetic oil in it as well as any other vehicle I own throughout my life.

The extra cost of synthetic far outweighs the “cost” of conventional oils. When you look at long term effects and damage caused by regular crude oil vs the synthetics with their longer time between oil changes and their durability, the choice should be a no-brainer.

I worked for Mobil and ExxonMobil in their Lubricants and Lubrication Sciences RD for 22 of my 41 years in this line of work. Mobil always had a no compromise attitude about MOBIL 1 engine oils. This one is their Premier Product in the MOBIL 1 engine oil line – you can be guaranteed it is great ! ! !I witnessed two BMW 318i vehicles run on Mobil 1 for over 1 million miles back during the 1990s and when the engines were torn down afterwards, the lubricated parts all appeared actually like brand new – still had the original machining marks ! ! ! Now that is great testament to a great engine oil ! ! !.

I only use the top 4 brands now, Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, Castrol Edge and Valvoline. Been very impressed with all of these full synthetic oils after using many different brands in 4 vehicles over the yearsI change my oil at 10k mile intervals.

OEM oil from the dealer and other name brand drained out so black light wouldnt pass thru it. The top oils I mentioned still have transparency at drain after 10k milesI even use this in my old 2000 truck with 206k miles.

I get better mpg when using the top brands like this.

I had a quick rattle on startup 2007 Mustang 4. 6 L @ 58K miles. I tried other premium oil and filters and was beginning to think it was a more serious mechanical issue. I switched to this oil and a (another brand ultra-synthetic) filter (because they don’t sell Pennzoil filters in my area), and the noise was instantly gone.

From the first crank, no more. Startup is smooth, quick, easy. Motor and car run noticeably smoother. The product says it provides the same protection as 5W-20, so I’m covered there. Looking forward to trying this stuff out.

Beware, the cheap, thin, flimsy bottle cap these clowns use on these bottles will leak oil into your trunk and ruin everything. Want to waste days trying to get synthetic oil out of your trunk and items, buy this.

A completely avoidable disaster if Pennzoil would just provide a decent bottle and cap. This happened TWICE. The 1st time I thought it might’ve been my fault, but the second time I am sure. Do NOT buy this product until they provide a decent container and resealable cap.

i have been using penziol platinum ultra euro on my 98 ranger for over 20 years. when it hit @ 300k miles i had some leaks so i removed valve covers intake and oil pan to reseal it. engine was spotless inside no sludge at all.

i was going to replace rod and main bearings but when i checked them they had no visible wear. no copper showing at all on any of the bearings. so just put back together.

So this is my first time using Valvoline Oil. I used a Fram Force Cartridge on my Chevy Equinox with the Valvoline Full Synthetic HM with Max Life. I know Chevy Equinox has a reputation to burn oil. So therefore I won’t blame needing to add oil twice on Valvoline.

I went through 6 mths before changing the oil again as the vehicle has only been drove 4,300 miles. I normally ran only Mobil1 in my Equinox but I was also great changing oil every 3 months like clock work.

Would I recommend VHMM? Sure if you need something in a pinch! But don’t wanna dump out $40+ for 5qts.

I normally have my oil changed/maintained by a professional, but my oil light kept coming on. I check my oil level and my it was empty! I went to Walmart and picked up this Valvoline oil, which had more than enough in the container than what I needed for my car (which means I won’t have to make another trip anytime soon).

My car seems to run better than it did when I was letting a professional perform my oil maintenance service. I will continue to use this engine oil.

I trust Mobil oil only, my 2003 Lexus GX470 had 375K miles when I sold it and it ran perfect with Mobil1 syn oil changes every 10K miles.

It’s just multigrade motor oil and it lubricates as expected. What more can be said? What’s convenient is one 5-gal container and not five 1-quart bottles. Gets the oil change job done quicker. And’ afterwards, you have a “new” empty container to put your used oil in for the next oil change.

Also, the Walmart price was best I found at the time. No shipping cost – I picked it up at the nearby store.

I have a 2009 Saturn Sky Redline that recommends 5w-30 synthetic oil. After reviewing different brands of oil and determining Mobil 1 5w-30 annual protection met my engines requirements I decided this was the best choice.

These automobiles are unusual in that they have a 2. 0 liter motor with a dual scroll turbo and 20 psi boost that is much higher than most turbos. This engine will produce almost 300 horsepower and at the time of production this engine has the most horsepower per cubic feet of any engine at 2.

1 horsepower per cubic inch. I have driven this car in short trips in cold weather and on the highway aggressively at 120 mph or more. This engine has never consumed any noticeable oil no matter how I drive the car.

I work at a company that changes oil in cars and this is somewhat unusual and I note many of similar motors do consume more oil than I think they should. This oil does not break down with hard driving and it protects the turbo and engine under extreme conditions.

I highly recommend this oil. At my last oil change, the technicians who drained the used oil out of engine remarked about how good the old oil still looked and how pure the new oil looked going in. This engine makes extreme demands on oil but they are no challenge for Mobil oil annual protection.

It’s interesting reading the negative reviews, especially regarding how it is bad oil because it turned ‘black’ after only however many miles. Sure, if you’re over fifty years old, you might remember gauging oil condition by its color.

That’s because oil inferior additive packages and were paraffin based oils that allowed contamination to settle in the oil pan, which left oil “looking clean” longer, despite actually causing sludge buildup.

Today’s oils “hold” contaminants in the oil, which causes a darkening in color, however the protection of the oil remains. Oil is not “bad” until the oil is ‘saturated’ with contaminants. And the only way to determine the level of ‘saturation’ is via oil analysis.

Trust that Mobil has determined a safe mileage interval. I can only assume they wish to avoid lawsuits by suggesting harmful mileage intervals. Also, oil consumption is ‘normal’. Just read any owners manual.

Oil consumption doesn’t mark a fault of the oil. Higher mileage, previously infrequent oil changes, engine wear, vanish and sludge, carbon on piston rings, are just a few reasons oil consumption occurs.

Folks, first off any review claiming that this oil is not 100% synthetic base stock is lacking a lot of knowledge of base oil and refining process operations and knowledge of test methods for product certification using various forms of analytical chemistry techniques.

As a competitors employee, I run the synthetic base oil process engineering division and quality blending to meet the desired specifications for our synthetic oils finished product. This Mobile 1 Annual Protection, Mobile Advanced Protection, as well as the original Mobile 1 oils are created by a synthesis reaction process and yield a full synthetic base stock.

The Advanced version is a more refined version, and is self explanatory. In addition to the normal synthesis processing, the advanced goes through another series of refinery processing and separation equipment, which yields the “higher quality finished base stock” (you must prove this with American Petroleum Institute (API) test methodology) for all of the finished product quality specifications, for every single batch produced and released for customer shipment.

The analytical testing of the finished product is what determines the API specification. API test methods are simply operational and stability tests created by and used for comparing the quality of huge variety of oil products.

In short, most people have no idea how oils are produced, how they are tested, how the testing is performed and how/what they are certified for. – I will not say who I am, but only that I am a (Mobile competitor) who is a process engineering manager and finished product blender.

My wife’s car was low on Oil needed just 1 but I bought 2, the person that helped was very friendly and courteous, I went to the store in Norwalk and the Cashier was really RUDE, I TOLD HIM THAT IM A VETERAN AND HE DEMANDED TO SEE MY ID, ITS JUST THE WAY HE ASKED IT WAS REALLY RUDE.

I use it in my 2013 Honda CRV, I measure a little better mileage and a better idle, but the main reason is for better protection of the motor, as these motors can easily rev up to 8000rpm like in a fast passing.

The high price pays off with the longevity of the motor, especially regarding the camshafts and the crankshaft bearings. Off course this is my subjective personal experience from having used this oil in sports cars in the past.

As for Summit’s Racing service so in delivery and as on the phone, from my past and present experience is 10/10.

Scion FRS approaching 100,000 miles of daily driving & countless track days. Switched to Redline early on as my typical peak oil temps were ~265F with the Subaru OEM oil cooler I was using. Years later my oil analysis results continue show good wear.

Mobil oil has been a leader in the industry for decades and one of the first to pioneer full synthetic oils which have longer life and keep the engine running very well. My 3. 0L Ford is VERY happy to have such quality oil and purrs like a tiger with it.

This oil seems to keep internal engine clean unlike paraffin and clay based oils from competitors which gum and clog up inside the engine. Having torn down and repaired or rebuilt over 100 engines myself, I can spot a quality oil from a cheap oil instantly.

I’ve been changing my own oil for 34-years. That’s the ONLY way to ensure my precious engine isn’t subjected to the vicissitudes of 1/ incompetence 2/ sabotage in the oil-change industry, sadly. My research showed that Mobil 1 is the BEST most-affordable synthetic.

I did call autozone. About. This. Issue. I bought this. Mobil oil 5w30. 5 Q. It was. Used oil. The 5 Quart. Was open the oil was used oil I call for investigation from autozone. No body call me back.

Autozone store has a. Camera. Can you. Guy’s investigate this issue.

Its oil right. well I ride a 2009 Yamaha Royal Star Venture. big bike with a wet clutch thst this oil meets requirements. This bike clanks, clunks and makes noise during idle. Always did. Previously I used Mobil 1 V-Twin oil.

Reduced noise but not like this Lucas 20w50 synthetic. Great so far with about 300 miles on it. Noise is almost but eliminated, starts faster, runs smoother. Not sure on mileage but I bet it will be better too.

Try it. you won’t regret it. Wish I did long before.

I changed the oil in my 1999 Buell s3 thunderbolt. i used Lucas 20/50. When I restarted my the motor I noticed a ticking in the rocker boxes that wasn’t there before the oil change. I thought I might have a bad lifter but the more I read up on this I found that Lucas oil caused the same tick in other riders machines.

I won’t be able to make a good comparison until payday when I can change the oil to something other than Lucas if the tick goes away then I’ll know what to cause was so right now I give two stars as a rating.

Have it a try as it was time for a change. Used lucus on other vehicles so decided to try it on my 07 street glide. It has the typical twin cam tick. This oil did quiet it down. It isn’t gone but is a little quieter.

It also brought up the oil flow( psi) at ideal and cruising. See how it will perform over time. Only done 250 miles this far. But so far so good.

I am no scientist, and I can’t give you a scientific review about this oil. All I can say is that I tries this product in my Kia Spectra 2009 EX 4 cylinder engine. The engine ran smooth, the oil kept its integrity and by the time I changed it the color of the oil was a light brown cinnamon color, no as dark as other motor oils I have tried in the past.

The only downside of this motor oil is that you have to check your engine if you do long intervals of oil change. I do mine every 8000 miles and even though I check the dipstick every week, I did notice a drop of a 1/4 of a quart at 4000 miles.

I purchase my gas engine oil thru GoVets and have had nothing but good experiences. Mag one full synthetic gas engine oil is as good as any other full synthetic out there and better than most.

It rates in the top 10 of full synthetic oil,when you study the 10 best engine oils.

Mobile 1 is the only oil I use in my truck. I have a little over 136000 miles on it and have not had any issues. I continue to keep using this brand. I usually have to add under a quart before my oil life gets down to 10%.

This oil is great!! I shied away from it for many years before finally doing some research on it and found that it has the same specs as synthetics that are 2 1/2 times the price!! It’s made by Citgo, a major oil company for decades, and I use it in every internal combustion engine I own and it has performed flawlessly.

Cars, trucks, generators, snow blower, lawnmowers, everything. Don’t be afraid, use it!!!.

I use this in my 2006 Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0L that is only driven to haul a toyhauler at about 100 miles total on race weekends. Seems to be a great oil, no engine issues.
