13 Best Books On Letting Go (2022 Updated)

I liked that this book is very easy to read – unlike his “Power vs Force” it is alot less scientific and much more easy to digest and understand. I highly recommend it for anyone who is wanting to further their mental health as it is helpful to “be positive” all the time BUT you need to learn how to LET GO of the negative emtions before any true healing can begin.

I bought another 2 copies and sent them to friends after I read it. A very important book for me and my healing journey.

I really enjoyed learning about Hawkins’s letting go process, and by utilising it, improving a great bit of my life experience. It’s also an easy read without too many scientific phrases. After finishing reading it, I bought a couple of copies straight away to gift them to my friends.

A wonderful book about an essential life skill!.

I expected more of this book having read several positive reviews. It did not live up to expectations. The author’s style is repetitive. There is a lot of padding and waffle. However if you are prepared to wade your way through it there are some excellent insights and conclusions to be found.

I bought this book because I’ve followed Rachels growth and success for many years. I admire her service to the community and striving to make the world a better place. And there has been an outpouring of positive reviews for this book.

But I feel that an honest review is important and sadly this book left a bad taste in my mouth. So much so, for the first time in my life, I returned a book I simply couldent read anymore. I admire her for being raw about her loss and growth but the whole beginning of this book was her complaining about her poor struggling mother and feeling bad for herself.

Not to mention this book reeks of internalized misogyny which is incredibly disappointing coming from a self proclaimed feminist. Hard pass.

I don’t know what the person who gave it a 2 star rating was thinking but for the first time in my life I have never related to a book as much as I do with this one. Rachel is very raw and honest in this book and every chapter has brought me close to tears and a few even got me bawling.

If you have ever lost a loved one or felt lost in this world this is the book for you. Rachel is a very spiritual person and it comes out in this book time after time. Such an amazing read! I haven’t even finished it and I’m already recommending it to all my friends and family.

Absolutely love it! I definitley intend on reading this book over and over again.

An easy and quick book, but heavy read. I cried and laughed a ton. Anyone who has a best friend that feels like a sister will understand.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Courtney Walsh has crafted a fabulous story full of interesting and realistic characters. Well okay, to be honest, I didn’t much care for Grady initially. (I know, that was intentional on Walsh’s part.

) I am not one to gush over celebrities and egotistical folks like him really annoy me. But like Quinn, as the story progressed, I began to warm to the vulnerable and hurting side that he carefully tried to conceal with all of his bluster and shenanigans.

As for Quinn, she garnered my sympathies right away, and I ached for the void she felt due to her mother’s departure. Walsh expertly portrays the hurts and inner struggles Quinn and Grady experience while keeping the story upbeat with plenty of light-hearted and often amusing moments.

Important messages of faith, forgiveness, and moving forward blend seamlessly into this compelling tale that also pulses with the perfect amount of romantic tension. Just Let Go of whatever is holding you back from adding this to your summer reading list, and grab your copy today.

Can anyone say “Michigan Winter” and get excited?!! Not for me that’s for sure, and I live here. It may not be the most appropriate time to make your vacation plans to the beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan, it certainly is the right time for ski season.

For Olympian Grady Benson, nothing else has ever come before skiing in his life. Not since childhood. His reckless drive to win at all costs and his fearless lifestyle has led him to the top, only to find he has come crashing down in recent months.

Figuring he’ll take a solo time out and drive from Vermont to Colorado for the next stages of his play for the US Ski team – he happens upon the lakeside town of Harbor Pointe. There’s always going to be those fictional towns that you will fall in love with at first sight, and having spent many hours in gorgeous towns along the Lake Michigan shoreline, it was so easy to imagine Harbor Pointe and to quickly claim it as a favourite.

In this close knit town, even if you’re not family – you’re family. I loved the first book in this series ‘Just Look Up’. Everything about the characters, the overall message and especially the location made that my top choice pick for contemporary fiction in 2017.

Imagine my excitement when I heard that Courtney was releasing another story set here, I’ve been anticipating it as long as I have known about it. That can, occasionally cause a kind of anticlimax scenario, for the reader, and certainly lots of pressure on the author to deliver.

I can safely say that I loved every single page of this book, I could not put it down. Again, we find ourselves pulled into a deeply complex plot revolving around two people, total polar opposites flung together by some may say fate.

I love reading stories set in small towns where everyone seems to know everybody and they treat each other like family. This story brought that to life for me. The characters were wonderful making it feel like you were with friends.

Grady plans to just stop for a meal on his way through town, but his actions lead to him being stuck in Harbour Pointe until his community service is done. Quinn and Grady are polar opposites. Grady is a risk-taker, Quinn is not.

Grady has travelled all over for ski competitions; Quinn has never left Harbour Pointe. Grady takes things as they come and Quinn is a planner. Is there any common ground to be found for these two? There is something about Quinn that draws Grady in and he is determined to get to know her more when all she wants is for him to leave town.

Much to Quinn’s dislike Grady’s community service order puts him on her winter carnival team and helping her fix up her new shop. Add in the fact that Grady begins helping Quinn’s nephew, Jaden, with his skiing it becomes impossible for Quinn to avoid him.

Shortly after meeting Grady I felt there was something going on beneath the image that he portrayed to others and wanted to know what it was. Turns out he was holding on to something from the past that he felt he could never be forgiven for.

Quinn is also holding onto a hurt from the past and has been allowing this to determine her life. She is trying to prove herself to one person and can’t see how this has been holding her back from enjoying life.

The hurts that these two are holding onto are weighing them down and sabotaging them from living their lives fully. Over the course of the story they learn to let go and find the peace needed to deal with these hurts.

Both characters learn to let go of the things they can’t control and fight for the things they can. I loved this. I loved the change in Grady the most; he comes across at the beginning as a self-centered and egotistical guy doing whatever he wants whenever.

But over the course of the story he slowly transforms as he turns control over to God and learns to let go. He becomes someone focused more on others than himself and is willing to listen and take direction from others.

I really enjoyed following Grady and Quinn as a relationship developed between them and they learn to let go and let God lead. This story made me experience so many emotions I didn’t want to put it down.

Patrick Ness is probably my most reviewed author by now, and it won’t be stopping any time soon with this trilogy. Chaos Walking is the perfect series for lovers of Divergent or The Hunger Games, set in a fantasy-like, dystopian world, made so realistic by Ness’ incredible way with words.

I saw the new movie before reading the books, and thought it was fantastic, but of course, books always trump all (book two was even better than this one). Set in the small settlement of Prentisstown, life for Todd Hewitt is overwhelming.

The Noise germ allows every man’s thoughts to be heard out loud by all. The alien-like creatures, called the Spackle, killed all the women in the war. So it’s just men and their noise – also known as chaos walking.

Until Todd stumbles across silence, and he has to run for his life. This book was intense, heart breaking and action-packed. It was a little slow to begin with but worth getting through the first 100 pages or so.

And trust me, books two and three in this trilogy will blow your mind. Perhaps my new favourite series. thanks again, Patrick Ness.

I have heard fantastic things about this book and about Patrick Ness in general, and I was not disappointed. I really loved The Knife of Never Letting Go. First of all, the writing was beautiful. The world that Patrick Ness created was really interesting, and I felt like I could imagine the entire planet perfectly as I was fleeing Prentisstown with Todd.

The characters felt so real and I found myself growing incredibly attached to them. I have to admit, I was a little bit confused at the very start of this book, but once the plot developed a little and I got to know a bit more about the characters and the world, everything fell into place and I was hooked.

I would love to be able to tell you more about the character development and the world building, but saying anything more would put me at risk of spoiling you, and I really think it is best to go into this book without knowing too much about the plot.

One thing that surprised me about The Knife of Never Letting Go is how dark it was. Our main character, Todd, is only supposed to be twelve or thirteen during this book (there is some debate among the characters as to the progression of time on their planet).

This is a little bit younger than a typical Young Adult character, and this book is marketed as YA. Despite Todd’s age, I found this book to be darker than most YA books I have read. The villains in this world are some of the creepiest, slimiest characters I have ever read.

I have heard Mayor Prentiss named as people’s favorite villain multiple times, and, I will admit, he is a really creepy bad guy and I am a little afraid to see what he does in the rest of this series.

But the character that really got to me in The Knife of Never Letting Go was Aaron. Aaron was freaking CRAZY. He completely creeped me out and I will never forget his scenes in this book. Ugh, that guy gives me chills.

This is such a great book I recommend to all young adult readers out there. Lots of action and a little bit of violence but nothing over the top. With the violence this is still a School appropriate book.

I strongly suggest you buy all of the books at the same time if you enjoy the series. (This series has been turned into a movie however due to Covid-19 I don’t know the release date anymore. it was meant to be released sometime during May of 2020).

In her newest book “Its all under control,” Jennifer Dukes Lee not only leads her reader through the myths of adopting and living a “busy” life but she provides practical ways to self educate the reader to live the life they were born to live.

She has bust open the notion that being able to wear the badge of “busy,” is honorable. Short exercises, notable quotes, her own experiences are relatable This author aids the reader to change in ways that are gentle, practical, yet noteworthy.

We adopt every technology available to make life easy; and every social media app can be blamed for the way we interact with each other, in an almost uncaring fashion. We often have no time for others or for things that actually are much more important.

This author reminds us that we can keep life meaningful with our own free will and choice. This is a well written, easy to read book and is a great choice for anyone who wants to live life with purpose and meaning and who seeks healthy, meaningful relationships as we walk this human life.

Jesus Christ is the obvious headliner of this book written by a strong Christian woman of Faith who understands His Sovereignty. Yet this book is a worthwhile choice for any person, of any faith as well.

I identify with Martha, the sister of Mary and Lazarus in the Bible. My tendency is to go to the Lord and complain “Jesus, why isn’t So-and-So helping me?”. Most of my adult life was spent trying to control situations and people in my job as a senior-level college administrator and at home with my children and husband.

Then I tried to control my health conditions through diet, exercise and other lifestyle changes. But despite all the things I did, circumstances and people can’t always be controlled. Jennifer Dukes Lee’s book It’s All Under Control is just what I needed to read at a time I was feeling weary and anxiety-ridden.

It is for the woman who is tired of doing everything in her life, but does not know how to stop. The book is filled with examples from Jennifer’s life and from scripture and is both inspiring and practical.

Each chapter includes suggested action items called “Cracking the Control Code”. There is also a written Bible study book as well as on-line resources to further enhance your study of this book. As an experienced journalist, Lee has a very clear and engaging style of writing.

If you are a Christian woman who often feels anxious or overwhelmed with the circumstances of your like, I encourage you to purchase this book. This book should not just be read once and put on the shelf.

Instead it is one to study, journal about and pray with and remember that God has it all under control.

This book made me laugh out loud in places while the truth that was hard for me, yet I’ve so desperately craved to hear, seeped into my soul: I don’t have to “shield my beloved people from pain” by handling everything.

God’s got this–all of it. Isn’t that glorious? With her hilarious lists in the margins and her thought-provoking heart-work at the end of each chapter, Jennifer invited me to take an honest look at the way I try to control everyone and everything instead of trusting Jesus like I say I do.

Here’s the thing: I didn’t know how busy I was trying to do everything right, jump through all the hoops, keep track of all the things—and dragging my stressed-out teenager with me—until I read Jennifer’s book.

On each page, there’s a sentence, a paragraph, several paragraphs that speak right to where I’m living. Only God can do that. If you’re looking for a book that tells you how to get everyone and everything organized and under control, this isn’t that book.

If you’re looking for a writer who slogs through the trenches right beside you as you both run hard after Jesus in this crazy world, then buy this book. Read this book. Write in it, inhale it, journal about it, then read it again.

While I have not read the entire book yet, the insight on every page so far is amazing. This book is easy to read and understand as it is not laden with psychological jargon. However, while it is easy to understand and clearly spells out the dysfunction of your family and those around you, it also shows your own dysfunction and the whys of the choices you have made.

I have purchased 3 copies and will buy more in order to pass on this great wisdom.

I read the book many years ago and it was instrumental in helping me recover from a very damaging effects of unhealthy relationships throughout my life. I have ordered this copy for a friend who finds herself in dire straits.

I am hoping it will help her as much as it did me. It’s a very hard book to get through because you have to take an honest look at yourself. The writers/ doctors really know their stuff. It’s like having your own shrink for the price of a book!.

Great insight that makes you want to break cycles in your life that keep you from repeating damaging behaviors.

It tells you have to be positive amd not negitive. It is an inspiring book. It helps you with everyday problems and situtations.

This guy is a joke. He needs to practice what he preaches. Watch one one of his services and save your money. Unless you want to give it to a millionaire.

I borrowed an older version of this book from a friend, who needed it back. and after some investigation found this one. Such a great support book that gives great insight and ideas of how to handle life, knocks, self-criticism amongst so much more.

Even though this book was written as part of a 12-step program I believe it can be useful to all that read it. This book pertains to many situations in life, not just addiction. I have had this book in my own life for many years.

I just recently purchased this one for a young co-worker who is on a journey down the path of recovery trying to help her mother. Even though the daughter does not have an addiction she has lived with someone who does.

I received this book myself from a co-worker when I had just left an abusive marriage having been married to an alcoholic for many years. This was my spritual bible for a long time. I still refer to it when life seems overwhelming.

This book is for anyone that personally struggles with any addiction and also for those who know, love and/or live with someone that has an addiction. Even if you aren’t the one with the addiction this book helps you to better understand the situation, theirs and yours.

As much as we’d like to think we are immune and are not affected by someone else’s behavior, we are and can be affected. Recovery, whether you are the addict or a victim of someone’s addiction, is a process.

It takes time and alot of hard work. This book helps all to have hope, to recover and to heal. I feel blessed to have received this book at the time I did. I know it helped me to get through the aftermath of my divorce and the years that followed as a single mom.

It gave me hope and strength. I believe this is a book you will keep near you and will read again and again. Enjoy the journey!.

I have bought this little book for at least a dozen people. Anyone who has had some trauma in their childhood can benefit by reading this daily. Whenever they start the book, I suggest they sit quietly and read 10 pages at a time from the beginning to catch up and experience the wonderful insight into recovery.

Also, read each day, starting from day book is received. Go forward with both suggestions until end of year and then start over again. Im on my 25th year of reading and it stills great value.

I buy these books to give them away to bring hope and inspiration to my friends and people who reach out to me in their suffering. I have given away 8 books so far. Ordered 5 more awaiting their new homes.

Using fresh descriptions from her life and those around her, Melody eloquently and humorously describes how to let go what is no longer serving you, how to face difficult and overwhelming feelings such as grief and shame and how in the midst of fear and ‘The void’ you can learn to move forward with a ‘woohoo.

A delightful and inspiring little book.

Beattie has a way of simplifying complex ideas and making sure a point is driven home. As a person who has been dealing with a lot of issues in life, both professional and personal, I appreciate this simplistic but direct daily devotional.

She makes sure her point is made in between sometimes magical prose that resonates with me. Highly recommended for those endeavoring for self introspection and/or change.

This book has got me through a year of BIG Changes. I’ve read it at least 4-5 times this year and will continue to read it. I’ve been a rescuer since I was a child and continued into my mid 60’s. The summer of 2020 was my breaking point and I thank God for bringing this book into my life.

With constant practice of the principles in this book, slowly but surely, I am now putting myself first. I’m Detaching from everything that is Not my Business to fix and letting those close to me find their own answers to life’s lessons, just as I have done all my life.

Dr. Jampolsky wastes no time in revealing the true facts of our hearts’ desire, Peace of Mind, and offers simple techniques by which we may restore, or capture, this priceless gift for ourselves.

Do not mistake me, the most profound of transformations are revealed in the most simple of truths. A must read for seekers of any age.

This essential reading for anyone with a terminal illness, the family, the friends and guardians or executors. It clearly demonstrates the need for people facing death to take control of their lives(and their deaths).

The examples show quite clearly how important it is to set out, and gain family and medical staff support for, the type of death you want, particularly the extent of medical interventions you want. It is easy to read and should form a good basis for an open discussion of a topic which is often taboo.

As someone who had made decisions on end of life choices and appointed two Enduring Guardians to ensure my wishes are carried out, I still found this a very informative read I consider this book to be required reading for all, whether younger or older.

It will save your family from anguish and dissension.

A great book about ways to ensure that when your time comes, you are in control of your passage into death. Lots of real life stories about good deaths surrounded by friends and family and in comfort rather than alone and in pain.

Ive been aware that im a codependent for 20 years. I didn’t really know how to fix it. This book gives great insight into how to actually fill your self love tank so you don’t need to be in an unhealthy relationship.

It worked for me.

Excellent read for insight on unhealthy relationships and how to develop healthy relationships. Must read for action plan to heal and recover from codependency and other other relationship issues from trauma.
