20 Best Car Roof Racks (2022 Updated)

I read a lot of the reviews before purchasing these. I’ve had Tuly brand car racks once before many years ago so I decided to try the same brand based on my positive initial experience. Are used the wizard available to type in the make model in year of my vehicle and then just selected the pieces recommended.

I strongly suggest this instead of attempting to piecemeal it together yourself given that you will need three different things ordered. And for each one item that you order, you get all the materials for both bars.

A lot of the reviews complain about the assembly difficulty and challenging instructions. After having just assembled these myself and installed them on my vehicle in the past 30 minutes, I can honestly say I have no clue what those other complaints are about.

The instructions were very simple and straightforward. They contained everything I needed to do it correctly the first time. They do come in a few pieces that you will need to assemble but it honestly was about a 10 minute assembly process.

And the packaging and shipping were perfectly fine with lots of bubble wrap so that nothing was damaged. Then, once I put them on the car, they seem very high-quality and sturdy. My only concern is that the Evo rack oval diameter may exceed aftermarket kayak rack width capabilities.

I wish the oval width had been listed somewhere in the measurements available online for this product.

Was super excited to get these sleek bars on my new ’21 Crosstrek. and then came the install. Fitment says they will work for my raised rails. And I guess *technically* they do – if you are okay with your crossbars being about 20″ apart.

That will not meet my needs as I need a wider spread and more stable base to support a 10. 5ft kayak. The underside of the crossbars have a cutout that the feet slide into; however, it only goes in from the ends a certain amount.

And that amount is not enough for the feet to slide inward enough since the factory rails taper slightly as you move towards the back of the vehicle. It seems like a very UNversatile design, especially considering Crosstreks are a pretty common outdoorsy vehicle.

I had Thule products on my last vehicle and would’ve liked to continue that theme. After more research, I returned the feet, crossbars and locking cores x4 and exchanged it all for a competitor that starts with a ‘Y’ and rhymes with rackima.

Their foot track runs the whole underside of the crossbar – no restrictions. Take a note Thule. They still got some of my money as I kept the pricey but awesome Hullavator system for my kayak. PICTURES: I wanted to put the crossbars at the far front and back of the rails, but that was a ‘no’.

Even sliding them up right behind the brace didn’t work (you can see in the space that’s left how much more the foot needed to slide in still, but couldn’t). The rear crossbar would have to go in front of the brace to work.

Maybe that’s okay for a bike, but not for anything long like a kayak.

Family planned Colorado ski trip first week of January 2022. Flight canceled. Rescheduling a mess. No confidence in air travel getting us to Colorado. Snap decision to drive 17 hours, straight through to ski.

Picked up skis in Boulder. Didn’t have cross bars for ski rack. Make impulse decision to buy cross bars and ski rack. I typically do a lot of research before buying mods for my 4Runner. I check specs, cost, reviews, etc.

Unable to do that in this instance. I didn’t even know I needed to buy feet for Thule or Yakima cross bars. We were pressed for time and I literally walked into Boulder REI, found someone, and said I need help buying cross rails and a ski rack.

$903 later I had what I needed. I had no idea it would be so expensive – but that’s on me for making an impulse buy in a time constrained situation. I believe the bars and feet are easy to install – provided you aren’t experiencing sleep deprivation, rushing, trying to install it in the parking lot of Christy Sports when it’s 30 degrees out, your fingers are numb while holding a flashlight in your mouth.

When I returned home and reattached the cross bars, I found the directions quite simple and easy to understand. Just slow down, make sure your reading the correct directions (the directions include many different types of Thule cross bars), and have a tape measure.

I read reviews where others complained about additional noise. I did not experience that. Overall, I am pleased with them. Because I did not have time to research and compare cost versus quality, I gave a 4 rating.

I feel the cross bars are a top notch product – just expensive. BTW: they look really sharp!!!!.

I bought this along with the Skyline towers and Skybox 16 for my ’17 CR-V for an upcoming cross-country move. There was a bit of an annoying problem though: I had to get TWO sets of bars; the first set I received from REI was missing all the mounting hardware, had NO packing in the box, and showed a ton of wear for a “new” set – these were a USED pair returned to REI at some point! Not sure how REI missed the mark with these bars I got, but to their credit they were extremely helpful and sent out a confirmed NEW replacement set to me at no charge with free overnight shipping with a return label for the old ones – and guaranteed I sent the old ones back in a heartbeat! Got the second box as promised (and they were indeed brand-new!) and it turned out to be a pretty easy (and fun!) installation project.

In use, these bars have only minimal road noise at full highway speed, but time will tell how they’ll workout moving from FL to WA with a full load. Though, they are high quality, feel extremely secure, and look great on my Honda so I doubt I’ll have any issues! Hopefully my experience was an isolated incident, and that REI will screen their return merchandise a bit more thoroughly in the future to prevent these kinds of headaches; and please keep up the excellent customer service!.

I have always preferred Yakima products, and have always been happy with their performance, longevity and Yakima’s customer support. So, when I purchased my new Wilderness, I knew I wanted to stick to the brand given I still have many old school Yakima products that are still working great (cargo box, ski rack, kayak J & Hully rollers, etc.

). Will need to upgrade the old mounts with the new crossbars, but love the sleek look of the Timberline and Jetstream crossbars, and also purchased and installed locks for security. They look awesome with my black trim package, and feel super sturdy.

Easy to assemble and install by myself.

These bars are solid. They have the same shape as the Jet Stream bars, but do not have the groove on the top like the Jet Stream bars. That means they do not have the ideal attachments for the bike racks, skis, canoe carrier, and kayak carriers.

They need an adapter. Ive used round bars for years. These are more quiet in comparison to round bars, but are noticeably louder than without the bars, especially at higher speeds. In retrospect I would go with either round bars or upgrade to Jet Stream bars.

I am also not a fan of how high the sit above my Jeep (with factory rails). The Sky-line towers are made for quick release, so requires a 2 piece system. They sit a good 5-6 above the roof. I would much prefer a lower profile.

Plus I dont plan to remove them until I sell the vehicle.

Why review these Yakima CoreBars now? Because they’re expensive and I’ve had them for 3 years now and can offer some perspective. I toiled trying to decide what the best setup was for my 2012 Forester.

Most bar options are pretty expensive, including the other well-known competitor for roof bars and accessories. It seems simple: metal bars to strap stuff to your roof. Why weren’t these on my car already? I don’t know, but they weren’t and I wanted to be able to haul things above the car.

In the end, these have held just about everything, from furniture to kayaks to cargo boxes. And guess what: they work. The up front cost sucks, but they hold everything and they don’t move. I can adjust them forward and back with a few turns of the screw via the Yakima towers I also purchased.

I was worried about noise originally, and that’s partly why I went with the CoreBars over the round bars. I think the step up is worth it as these make little extra noise, even without a wind fairing.

These have carried: a Yakima cargo rack most of the time, a competitor’s cargo box (yes, they play well with other brands), and many random items via ratchet straps. When I first bought these I took everything my partner owned from Missouri to New York, and a lot of it was held in place by these bars.

Some suggestions: if you have noise issues, move them forward and back testing placement. You can also buy a fairing (kind of expensive) but apparently works well, or even simply corkscrew some rope around the bar to disrupt the airflow.

I would also suggest using some electrical tape on the ends BEFORE putting the caps on the bars, as they fall off easily. The core locks are a must as well if you live in any sort of city environment where theft might be an issue.

I generally put the rack on my truck in the spring and take them off in the fall after canoing/kayaking/camping season is done. These bars are sturdy, maybe not as light as other choices but they work well.

Only thing I’ve noticed is these bars make more wind noise they my old Yakima round bars.

First of all– a great product, sturdy, relatively light weight yet heavy duty enough to carry a good load. The problem is/ was putting it together. (A). the tubes of the three main components do not fit well together.

Trying to get the last two to fit when then is no ability to bend the tubes- makes it very difficult. (B) There is a packet of screws w/ rubber washers included to secure the tubes once/ if you can get them together.

THROW THESE SCREWS IN THE GARBAGE!!! Even if you do get one of these screws to actually go all the way into the supposed pre-drilled hole, you will have stripped the phillips head on it by the time you get it all the way in.

Received as described. I am an Uber driver and would like to be able to fetch clients needing a ride to the airport. Unfortunately, my Nissan does not have enough space for luggages. I saw this real value Rack.

I remember buying from this company about two years ago and I was satisfied so I gave them a try again. The rack was easy to assemble and feels sturdy and solid. I am very satisfied with this purchase considering the functionality and price.

All pieces fit without any difficulty (I recommend watching the company’s YouTube video, it covers challenges like “the screws don’t fit!” They do, you just have to. well, watch the video! Also, use a drop of dish soap to help the short rubber sleeves that fit over the screws.

MUCH easier that way than dry. Inside dimensions: L 38 1/2” x W 34” Very good roof rack, would buy again if ever needed!.

Rack is well built, and fairly straight forward to assemble and install. If you mind the weight limits of your actual roof rack, this carrier will do just fine. I prefer the lower profile it provides.

Couple issues. the front plate has LARGE brand lettering so be prepared and it does not install flush given the fasteners provided. Could have fixed it by drill some new holes but managed to get the slightly “wavy” plate installed anyway.

Second the rack tube attachment fittings I believe are installed upside down (as I read the instructions). The nubby knob nuts are set so you can screw them tight from the top and the U-bolts fit under the round tube of your rack.

Problem is these knobby nuts stick right up into the carrier space and restricted items you may put inside. I flipped the attachment around and mounted those nuts on the bottom. The attachment pieces were rearranged to allow the round tube to still fit snugly between the now flat U-Bolt and the plastic shaped topper.

Like this there is no obstruction in the carrier for cargo. Easy.

Seems a good value for the money. Assembly was easy but I changed a few things. The center smaller tubes dont actually connect so I used 7/16 steel tubing and inserted it between joints and it made things even more sturdy.

The middle joints fit fine. Other reviews talked about rust at the joints so where the screws are I used black RTV and electrical shrink tubing on the joints that slipped together. Fits perfect on a 4th Generation 4Runner.

Doesnt sit high and is flush with the rails. I dont think you can go wrong for under $150. I give it 4 stars because I havent used it for hauling yet, but Im very pleased at how it fits.

Product isn’t bad at all. Just have to watch out for a stripped nut or two when assembling. Other down fall is the rusty water that leaves a trail on your roof and dries up. Could’ve given screws with rubber seals and or closed all welds complete and add drain holes since it is made to be extendable which allows water into joints.

I’ve never owned a roof rack basket before but if you intend to leave it on it is very noisey from winds at hi speeds obviously and may push you around. Looks good and rugged on my truck. Can’t complain otherwise for the price.

Update : had it for a few months and a few long road trips. Paint isnt shiny anymore. The wind deflector could have been wider. A bit of wind noise on local highways noticeable. Again cannot beat price for some of the draw backs.

Recommend painting with a nice rustoleum paint before putting it on roof for good. I also installed without support brackets for extended tray and liked the curved basket look. If you attach the 4 support brackets it will be straight and sturdier.

This rack compares to the Sport Rack. I found the Sport Rack a little easier to install, but not by much. I bought one each used. If I was only getting one, I’d buy the Malone for the price savings. Both attach very strongly to side rails.

They are great for occasional use like Home Depot runs or a luggage carrier for a road trip. They are not great to leave up all the time. Most people would find them noisy and an MPG killer. Get the more expensive Aluminum Aero cross bars for constant use.

Ourland offers a great price for used and in both cases Ourland did not list anything missing and in both cases they were right. Thanks Ourland for helping me to “stay thrifty”. I’ll be sure to check back now and again for more savings!.

After seeing prices for Thule crossbars, I started looking elsewhere for one. I’m not paying almost as much for a crossbar as I am for the kayak I’m buying. This product works fine. It’s not as pretty as a Thule but I promise you no one’s looking at your crossbar.

I will admit it’s not put together as well as a Thule though. The steel bars will slide out of the vinyl covering without the rubber end caps on it. But again, once it’s on your car and is held in by tension, they’re not going anywhere, even if the endcaps fall off.

They installed easily enough in the parking lot with the included allen wrench. The best part is this rang up $35 at the register. Must’ve been a return or clearance item. Can’t complain about that.

Sturdy and fits easily to all my vehicles. Toyota, Dodge, Hyundai. Easily carries canoe and kayak together using the Sail brand kayak racks. Excellent combo for a great price.

Long time Thule rack system user. Went from the Evo Wingbar to the Squarebar on my new vehicle and it was a huge mistake. I didn’t open the box until I needed them to travel and setting up one of the bars was bowed in the middle.

The pads didn’t fit properly even with the velcro as tight as possible. I love Thule products but am super disappointed in these bars. I drove across country last week and bars were so loud it was hard to have a conversation over the noise.

I never had that problem with the Wingbars. I even had to take my surfboard bags off to put in the car and take the rack off to put my boards in the vehicle it was so loud and intrusive driving. That obstructed my rear vision on the highway so bad that I had no choice but to put the racks back on.

I’m hoping Thule will exchange these out for the Evo Wingbars that I have always used and I can pay the additional cost. Great for around town but just don’t go on the highway.

I have been putting together a rack for my truck camper shell, with zero help from Thule. There is no help or directions from the “Fit My Car” so I had to do it myself researching on the internet. I bought Rapid Podium feet and Crossbars at the length I wanted (150).

Package arrived and I realized I needed a FitKit to attach feet to the factory installed Thule tracks which was mentioned nowhere on the Thule site. Also, the crossbars have a minimum width that the feet can be adjusted to and there is no mention of this anywhere on the bar description.

My tracks were too narrow for the feet to be adjusted to fit them. So I then ordered the FitKit and called Thule to explain the situation with the bars and swapped them for shorter ones. These new bars arrived and still could not accommodate the width of my tracks.

The minimum width the feet could slide into was about 39″ and my tracks sit at 37″. At this point I said “F-this” and cut the bars with a metal cutting wheel so the feet could slide in to where I needed them too.

Finally, I got everything put together and fitting fine, and then went put the covers on over the podium feet. Turns out they don’t fit tightly, and they wiggle and flap in the wind. So then I had to put some double side tape inside to keep them tight.

I am someone who is competent with these types of things and don’t usually have these problems. I will absolutely never buy another thing from Thule.

This is a great, strong rack. In the past, though, the feet clamped onto the bar so that removal and reinstallation was easy. Now, the clamp grabs the roof and bar simultaneously. Every time I remove the rack, the feet immediately slide to the end of the bar, pop off the endcap, and fall to the ground.

I have to remeasure and recenter the bar every time I reinstall. There are nice measurement markings on the underside of the bar, but you can’t actually see them once you put the rack on the roof! Nice, strong rack, but a pain for frequent on/off.

I’ll be honest, it came on the Jeep when I bought it. It truly gives the Jeep a very cool rugged/overlanding/off-roading look as it’s one of the things in the dealership photos that drew my attention to it.

One reviewer sounds like they had a pretty sour experience with the shipping company that delivered theirs and they remarked on the “so so” quality of the welds and opined that the powder coating would need to be completely redone within a year…?… I think they were just a little over-salty about the shipping fiasco and were hunting for other things wrong with it.

Mine looks like it’s been installed for several years (the red on the front emblem on the rack is super faded) and the powder coating is still solid. The welds are also fine, not anything you’d brag about, but you get what you get when you buy Smittybilt.

Whoever installed mine did a good job as there’s zero rattling and it’s sturdy as hell— I can rock the Jeep back and forth by just the rack and it has ZERO give.

When ordering a roof rack in addition to other items (including mounting kit) purchase it only with large items that also have to ship via freight. The shippers that finally got me my rack (which was lost for a time) totally lost the mounting kit and other small item scheduled to ship with it.

Ordering separately will make sure they get there in a reliable fashion. Make sure you read the emails you receive from XT regarding the use of freight shippers, especially if being delivered to a residential address.

For the rack itself, it looks pretty good I suppose. The front set of bars are a little bent, and I can’t tell if it’s due to the horrible treatment the shippers gave it, or if its supposed to be kinked down a little in the center.

Hard to tell. The welds are of so so quality, and I can tell the ‘powder coat’ will need to be completely redone in a year or so. That said, I guess this rack qualifies as a ‘budget’ rack, as I couldn’t find anything less expensive for my 07 JKU that would accomplish what I wanted.

Still, $500 felt a little steep. Time will tell how well it holds up. Overall I’m pretty happy with it, I’ve needed one for a while. But it would have been nice to find one for $600 or so that had a little better quality powder coat and welds.

I don’t regret the purchase, but if I were to do it over again I’d save for longer and get a more expensive rack.

This rack is a great option for anyone looking for more storage room. Installation with two people took less than an hour, and only takes about 15 minutes to remove. Love the look of it and the functionality.

We’ve use it for everything from road-trips to surf trips, with no complaints yet.

Bought this as a last minute solution for a road trip to Southern California so I could travel with a surfboard. The good news it that the racks were fairly easy to setup and the board felt secure the entire trip.

There was also very minimal wind noise. Unfortunately there are a couple downfalls — the straps buckle together inside the vehicle and create a problem for your head space. I found myself dodging the straps throughout the drive.

They also are not water tight. We had one rainy morning where some drips came through and water soaked my car’s headliner above the door frame. Lastly, the racks definitely scuffed up the exterior paint on my car.

Maybe I could have wiped my car down more thoroughly before we strapped them in each time but that was a bummer. It’s not horrible but it is noticeable. Overall, these racks were inexpensive and got the job done, but at a cost.

You get what you pay for, I guess.

Echoing other reviews, don’t use this in the rain. We didn’t anticipate rain during our weekend on the mountain and used this to transport our snowboards. It was sturdy and the load felt secure. However, on the way back home it rained all day and the straps soaked through into the car and started dripping all over the seats.

It also left massive water stains on my headliner that I haven’t been able to remove. Not sure why Yakima didn’t think it smart to put some sort of water proof coating or sleeve on this. I’d only recommend this in dry conditions unless you want to ruin your interior.

Purchased for a 46lb kayak for use with a Tuscon. The roof pads worked great and are easy to install and take on/off. The straps unfortunately did not work properly. They did not stay tight and would loosen with very little force.

My package was also missing a strap so I only had one. The pads work fine if you buy better straps, but the ones that come with it are NOT safe!.

Purchased these bars for my 2000 Saturn SL2 for a long road trip with my friends so we could haul our luggage and coolers and junk on top instead of cramming the trunk full. These bars are very sturdy and held the rack with over 75lbs of stuff without issue.

The biggest complaint I have is on the strap clamp that comes with the roof bars, as the clamp is super duper cheap, and does NOT hold the strapping securely in the car, which would be very dangerous to say the least.

After reading some other reviews of these bars, I saw that one person used ratchet strap ratchets instead, and after removing the stock strap clamps, I installed the ratchet strap ratchets and it made all the difference, and made the entire load more secure than I think even bolting the rails onto the car roof itself.

It takes me about 1/2 hour to remove and install these racks onto another vehicle. Definitely recommend to anyone.

I purchased these for my 2020 Honda HR-V Sport as I can’t find crossbars for flushed roof rails. Shipping was very quick which was awesome. They were inexpensive. Had to adjust a couple times til I found the right fit.

I couldn’t get the straps inside super super tight but they didn’t move when driving. Very easy to load & unload my kayak. Very pleased with them. I wouldn’t leave them on cuz of the weather strips. Went through car wash & very little water leaked in so rain probably would.

It says about weather strips somewhere.

Bare bones shipping from Asia. You’ll figure it out on your own, no instructions, but it isn’t rocket science. The rods are good heavy pipe with good paint. The pedastals are cheaper cast plastic, but they haven’t broken on me under 2 kayaks.

The rubber cap pads are too small and thin and shrink further in the sun. Epoxy them on when you get them, immediately or you’ll lose them to the wind and get paint scratches. The clips are fine for older cars but won’t grab and hold on the new smoorh jelly bean world cars: fiesta, focus, kia, hyundai, toyo, audi, etc which are obviously the same cars with different badges and lights.

On those cars, toss the provided clips and just strap it through the car one strap to the other and shut the doors. Less strain on the paint and that won’t let loose if you hit a bump. If you want to use clips in the door jam, then go buy some specially that are bigger and deeper.

Oh, I do use the provided clips if I put the bars on the trunk lid of my e36 convertible. They work on a trunk lid. That’s a use for the bars many won’t think of. They’ll hold a couple of watertight suitcases great for a small convertible.

Pros: They look awesome–as good or better than the OEM racks. They are incredibly solid and stable. Cons: You will need a different collar assembly specific to your vehicle, and REI will help you figure out which, but it’s another piece and an added expense.

In addition, the installation (at least for the BMW X5 collar) is *not* straightforward. It took a couple of tries to realize that one of the pieces was not seated correctly, which prevented adequate locking.

Keep small kids out of the garage while you figure out the proper installation, unless you want to teach them some new vocabulary. In addition, I hate the fact that the locking mechanism is cheap plastic.

Spring for the optional metal locking cylinders. They feel much more secure (as well as providing security for this expensive product). Bear in mind, the interior receiver is still plastic, but the entire assembly felt far more secure with the metal cylinders.

Thule is great at engineering and terrible at writing instructions. Perhaps Thule should consider putting out YouTube videos explaining how to install their products. The written instructions that come with the products are unacceptable.

I had to rely on third party videos. I really don’t know why customers don’t demand more from this company when it comes to the instructions. The products themselves are worthy of five stars. Anyhow, I purchased the AeroBlade Edge 7602B, 7603B and Kit 183177 for our 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

Everything fit perfectly. I am waiting to receive our cargo box, which is on back order.

It takes some effort to find the correct sizes and parts. Note, you will to order different sized bars for the front and back: one Medium and one Large bar. I needed to order the fit kit and locks from a third party seller because REI did not have have them.

In case it helps future buyers here are the specific parts for a 2022 RAV4 prime XSE: Thule Aeroblade Edge Flush Mount M Thule Aeroblade Edge Flush Mount L Thule Podium Fit Kit 3177 (locks recommended, not required) Thule 544 4-pack Lock Cores.

We’re used to brands from bike shops like Yakima and Thule, so the price of this rack seemed too good to be true when we ordered it. The rack is pretty much solid as a rock and has a very good finish as well.

The biggest problems were incomplete instructions (extra washers. do they go under the fairing mounts?) and an Ikea style Allen wrench that only allowed one or two turns before flying across the room/parking lot.

Other racks on the market use thumb nuts, which don’t give much confidence for making sure everything is nice and tight over good ol’ bolts, but they could have gone with better quality bolts and wrenches to cinche them down with.

FYI: We’re using with a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Ultimate with panoramic window and factory rails.

We bought this rack for our Highlander. We wanted a mid sized rack that wasnt basic looking. This rack fit the bill. These are great quality. Almost all of the bolt holes come with rubber washers to keep water out of the holes, and there are plungers in the connecting tubes to keep water from entering the rack there as well.

I did have to drill one hole wider to make the fairing top bar mount correctly, but it didnt affect the structural integrity. Great rack, and great company!.

I chose this roof rack due to it having some nice curves in the design vs a lot of the box cage style roof racks. I am very pleased with this roof rack so far. Assembled and installed in about 45 minutes.

Quality is good. Finish is on par with other roof racks.

My mission was to get 5 bikes on the rood of my van. I purchased this mount, and a double mount from another manufacturer. The double mount was more than twice the price of this mount (but far from the fancy name brand price tag), but it provided a more secure feeling attachment, so I purchased another one of that rather than two more of these to round out to system.

Since I have to haul 5 bikes, I will keep this one, and place it between the two doubles. This mounting system is not bad for the price, and it is fine for hauling your bike to the local rendezvous point for a group ride, but I am outfitting my rig for a multi-week family vacation with hundreds of miles of driving, so I wanted something a little sturdier, even if it meant spending a few more dollars.

The rack is simple and not of the greatest build quality but it held a bike on my car for 1000 miles so works great for me. Had 5 of these holding all different sizes and styles of bikes. All attached fine and pretty easy on and off.

Need to make some fine tune adjustments one where the tray is mounted to align with the different positions of the wheels but this is to be expected.

I called MJ and spoke to (I think) Kyle, and we went through a few options for the roof rails on my ‘cool’ (his words) 2004 Volvo V70. I’m also in the process of building a 17 foot cedar strip wood canoe so needed options on a means of securing that when the time comes.

I like if possible to keep separate items made by the same manufacturer and luckily I managed it here. There is an option to get a lock kit but I didn’t buy it, I may do later. First and so far only use was picking up a trellis fence panel.

Like all roof racks there’s wind noise but the aerofoil shape of the rack probably reduces that and it isn’t really that bad. Only grumble was a thread on the strap ‘barrel’ (you’ll identify it if you get them) of one tower hadn’t been cut correctly and wouldn’t accept the screw.

I didn’t have a tap but did have a 5mm (all threads are metric!) machine screw that with gentle persuasion and a little penetrating oil freed up the thread. No biggie. Unless your rails are absolutely parallel (I thought the V70’s were, they’re not!) you’ll have a front and a back, so mark them up, trust me, it saves time later! One other tiny niggle and I don’t see an alternative method is the securing strap (spring steel) until fastened hangs down when placing the rack on the rails and can, if you’re not careful scratch the paint.

ask me how I know. go on, ask. In summary; Not cheap but well thought out and well made. They have a solid feel without the weight.

I purchased this system for my 2015 Crosstrek. It was a much better deal than purchasing all the components from a manufacturer website and included everything. Shipped fast and installation was not bad at all except the strap that loops under the bar was really difficult to loosen the first time on the towers.

Have transported a sea kayak with it and no problems noted so far. Wind noise is minimal with the core bars.

The written instructions don’t match the video instructions, use the video instructions. Roundbar adapters are a separate purchase but the adapters for more expensive bars are included, hmmmm. Overall, I think they do a good job holding a crossbar to the factory bars.

These things are great. Super simple, mounted on the roof really strong and secure. Seem very sturdy. Installed in 10 minutes. Much cheaper than all other alternatives I looked at and were in stock off the shelf locally.

These fit perfectly on my 2021 Buick Envision. In looking for roof bars, I found that not many are on the market that fit my car. I bought some on Amazon for $160 that said they fit my car, but they did not.

The stock GM ones from Buick were going to be almost $500. Glad I checked the local Harbor Freight before I bought those! The only downside is that only one end per bar locks and the locks are lighter duty than other ones I saw.

But they serve the purpose and as cheap as these are, who cares anyway? These fit well on the attached rails on my roof that have the little groove on them on each side. Not sure how they would fit with attached rails without grooves or raised rails.

I know they wouldn’t work with grooved rails. Great product for cheap. Quit looking and buy it.

Repeating all of the other reviews, the rack is well built and looks great. Easy install. Took about 2 hrs. You do need help lifting the rack into place once the brackets are installed and pre assembling the brackets is a good idea.

As this this is a one piece, it shipped via a trucking company so you may have to make arrangements to be home when the 18 wheeler get to your home. The mounting brackets are sold separately as this rack can fit many vehicles and adds about $100 to your bill.

I bought this for my 2008 4×4 single cab Tacoma Pros: Insane Quality (You can tell they did not rush building this. ) Very well wrapped for shipping (Not a scratch, dent or bend on it. ) Shipped on time.

Customer service was excellent. Cons: Very heavy. (I get it. You want it to be sturdy, but dang!) Did not come with a way to mount it. (Doesn’t really specify that the mounts are not included. ) Mounts cost $90.

(Brings the total price to over $300. Still a bargain for the quality. ) The mounts for my Tacoma are called AM-4.

This set up was super easy to install and feels quite solid. The bars are on the thicker side so be careful about “universal mounts” clearing them. I will need longer bolts for a kayak carrier, or a new carrier to fit these bars.

They are also very noisy between 25-40 mph. The whistle goes away after that, but I am looking into a mountable front faring to cut the noise down. If you don’t need the added strength of the HD bars go for the Vortex model for a quieter ride.

We mounted a 2-bar rack with the 210mm legs in order to have clearance for the One Touch Sky Top. The rack looks good and is functional, however it whistles like crazy at any speed >25mph. The whilstling is very loud and extremely annoying, even with the top shut.

The aerodynamic cross bars seem to have the same complaint, so we’ll check in to a wind deflector or remove the rack except for when carrying a load up top. I do understand these are meant for off-road use, but you have to drive on normal roads to get off-road.

so what to do?.

The rack is very nice and mounting was easy. However, I’m surprised the foot mount had only one hole for fastening to the roof of the camper shell which I mounted mine to. I belive two hole would have made it more sturdy.
