20 Best Car Theft Deterrent (2022 Updated)

I purchased this item to replace my 20 year old Viper alarm once the remote literally fell apart in my hands. Since the brand was reliable with outstanding product lasting power I went with the same brand for my replacement.

My new version came with two key fobs and more can be purchased and programmed in store. As a total tech member the unit was an excellent price too. Pros – the key fobs are more streamlined than the old ones and fit in my pocket more comfortably.

Features such as the valet option and the silent disarm are much easier to remember and use. Cons – the alarm doesn’t auto-lock after 30 seconds like my old one. The chirp is smaller and a bit more difficult to hear, also a little wimpy for my V-8, but more importantly, chirping it to re-locate it in the parking lot doesn’t work as well because the volume is just not as loud.

I bought an older car that had power locks but I did not have a remote to control them. I bought OEM remotes but could not get them to connect to the car. I decided to instead look into aftermarket remotes and alarm from best buy.

The price of the alarm included installation which was a complete surprise for me. The low price to add both an alarm and keyless entry was great. Now not only do I have keyless entry but I also have an alarm system.

This is much better than any stock alarm system. The siren is extremely loud and would definitely create attention if someone was trying to break into my car. The alarm also has many sensors so if someone breaks a window, even touches the car hard enough it will set off the alarm.

One option that was a complete surprise is that When I get in my car and put into drive my doors lock and when I turn the car off the doors unlock. This is something simple and more of a convivence feature but I like it a lot.

Anyone looking to add keyless entry or an alarm to there car I would highly recommend looking into this alarm.

Great alarm. With total tech I was able to get it on sale for less than $100 with free installation. Definitely a steal. It comes with two controls. Depending on your vehicle you might need extra parts, so make sure to ask.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because the installation guys struggled to put the alarm, and they couldn’t get my trunk to open with the new remotes. I’m not sure what the problem was but they tried it for some time and couldn’t.

Other than that everything went great. Awesome price and great customer service.

I bought this due to the remote start, it is nice to have my truck pre warmed or pre cooled before driving off into the world, the truck had no security system before and due to the crime rate rising I needed something! The remote start works from inside my house some 75 yards away, works every time! Even when leaving stores, some 500 yards away, works every time! I love it so much I bought a smaller version for my wifes car, same brand, had a different unit in the car before and never worked right, this one works!.

the best thing about this is the 2way feature as you don’t have to see your vehicle to know it started. also lets you know if your vehicle was been bumped into with the security feature all in all works great low cost had item professionally installed which i recommend, alot of wires.

The function were crazy they function when she is in mood, and after a month an integrated system burn. No was a good election, really dissapointed

Effective, simple… “easy” to install… comes with everything needed for most situations. Programs fine, defaults are set for most installs. Good range on the remotes, good quality remotes.

Basic car alarm. Locks/unlocks car and kills the ignition. Comes with instructions, but it really doesnt tell you how to install it. You have to know what you are doing. In my case, it was easy I was removing an old alarm that stopped working so it was a swapped.

Awesome full alarm system at a great price. Rangs is good for a one way unit. Instructions are great and can probably be installed by anyone with a little auto know how.

7345V DOES replace 7341V. This remote amazes me. It’s simple, but has so, so many functions. I love that it is 2 Way and , the remote itself, makes different chirping sounds for, either, the car alarm warning, or the car alarm fully sounding.

There is no need to keep an ear out for YOUR specific car alarm sounding. Your remote chirps as well. The remote seems to have decent range of up to, roughly 500ft. The only thing I don’t like, it the short lived 1x AAA battery life.

I get about 2 months out of the 1x AAA. For good replacements, I recommend using Energizer Lithium 1. 5 volt (disposable) batteries.

I had a older viper alarm on my civic when i purchased it 3 years ago. In the last month it started to act up, so i went ahead and bought this for a good upgrade. Received it in the mail in the morning, and had it installed within 2.

5 hours that same day. I couldn’t be more happier the way this alarm works. Tells me what door is open, shows me the signal strength, which is what i really was looking forward too. But all in all this alarm/remote start works great and have a perfectly working viper alarm again.

Update 11-29-17 just bought the wife the same alarm system and works perfect. Viper alarm systems certainly are the best out there. Now my wife and i have access to each others vehicles with the same key fob.

1 week into installing into my car (acura) whether it’d be cold or warm outside the remote start keeps turning my car on and off repetitively. I will remote start my car for 5 seconds, the car will shut off then try to turn on again and can stop there or turn off and on again for the next 15 seconds.

Remote does not have at least 1/4 mi of a range. I can be 4 car lengths from the car and it will send the car no signal. I can repetitively press the button and nothing will happen until I am in front of the car, less than 5ft away.

I will be at work, about 15 car lengths away from my car, my car will not receive any sort of signal from my remote. Whether it be remote start and simply arming/disarming. It sends the signal when it wants to.

Most definitely sends absolutely no signal to car if I’m more than 15 car lengths away.

Buying this unit it ask for vehicle description and it says it fits meanwhile after doing more research and trying to get vehicle specific wiring guide/diagram, and still havent been able to get. Then finding out its not all in one because if your vehicle has factory alarm you have to buy a separate bypass module for the remote start.

Upon entering my vehicle for fitment and said it fit, plus describing as all in one system, I thought I was purchasing everything I needed for vehicle specific install and it is not capable of working without purchasing separate module.

This remote start alarm works seamless and perfectly with my 2019 Mazda CX-5. The installation required additional equipment than what came with the alarm, but my installer said it was relatively easy to install (I trust him because I have trouble screwing in light bulbs :-}.

I like the remote start component and it has good range too. This remote starter /alarm was 1/2 the price of some other bigger name brands but to me it has comparable performance and works as advertised.

I highly recommend this remote starter / alarm.

Lil apprehensive buying a remote start online an doing install myself. Not a big on electrical type of guy. But literally had it installed an working in 3 an a half hours. Works perfectly

I have NOT bought this product through these particular company! I have had the exact one installed before and we ended up selling the ’91 Acura (Honda) Integra. This alarm is the best entry level alarm you can buy and it has nice features compared to other entry level systems.

I loved this one so much I kept the box and was looking to get another one for my ’95 Integra SE because I’m the second owner of the car. I just asked for a quote from Viper. com and they allow you to send your info to a dealer and they will call me in a couple days with my quote.

I may just come back to this “DiscountCentralOnline” partner. I honestly loved this alarm system so much I now regret not ripping it out of the car we sold. LOUD Siren, LCD screen tells you when it’s locked, remote door lock, panic button, valet mode, clone safe code hopping, and it has a bright BLUE light that blinks in the car.

You can hook up the trunk release to pop open but it was extra parts and labor. There’s plenty online but not for this low price. 3 stars for the system itself.

i bought this for my car, arrived all well and boxed well as came to england uk, i havn’t fitted to my car but a friend as bought one who fitted to his car and going to fit to mine for me. he showed me how it work and you can tune it own music, even tells you if some one near your car or touching etc, i have cat who sometime sit on car, he said it would beep on the alarm fob on keys to say that there something on car.

arrived well and well packed nothing damaged like you get in uk especially coming from usa. Brilliant i am going to buy another soon hopefully you have some in stock in the next couple of months A**.

Works amazing and its so cheap. It was so easy to install too. Just power, ground, the wire to the relay for the siren and you just hook up the trigger wire from the doors and trunk and voila! Your alarm system works.

And if you want, you can wire in the lights to flash too and the doors to unlock with the key fob. I was amazed at how simple this was to install. Make sure to go buy some T – taps before you begin the install though.

It will make your life way easier. Also dont forget to get some 4 pin relays.

I wanted an alarm that I could install for my son’s 2001 GMC Sierra. Really did not want to spend too much on fancy stuff that he probably would not use anyway. We recently converted his truck from manual windows and locks to power.

We wanted something with keyless entry. This alarm fit the bill perfectly. It has you basic alarm features and keyless entry. Comes with built in shock sensor. Installation was pretty straight forward if you have some electronics experience with cars.

Very limited in what this alarm will do. One issue was the limited current outputs making any sort of switching only good for powering a relay. The light output is single wire meaning on my Toyota I had to use 2 relays to activate both left and right sides and the horn output needed a relay to handle the current draw as well.

Having said this once it was all wired in it works very well with excellent range in the remote and good sensitivity with the knock sensor. If you’re looking for a very basic alarm this might be suitable however investing a little more could save you many hours installation.

I have a teenage and in this day and age we want to trust our children while also maintaining their safety. The app allows to to see where he is in real time as well as how fast he is going. Which definitely eases my mind and allows me to monitor him without overshadowing him.

Great product. I have the Nano 7. And its perfect. The app is very easy to use as well as the downloadable intructions.

A good GPS tracking device that works on the 4G network. It has all the necessary features and it works as described. Will work in Canada and Mexico as well. Comes with a case. Needs subscription but that can be canceled.

I previously had the 5706v installed on my 2011 Dodge Charger and it fried after 3 years because of going the cheap route and paying a rookie installer $300 for the alarm plus install. It was a nest of wires underneath the steering wheel column were many wires were stripped and exposed.

I ended up going to a true professional and paid $1,000 to have the 5906v installed on my charger. The good thing is they back up their work 100% and have lifetime coverage on your system as long as you own your car.

Overall I’m very happy with the 5906v, the HD remote FOB is great and will last a lot longer than the 5706v remote. The 5906v remote is super responsive and is very loud when it comes to paging you. Pros Overall awesome alarm system.

It’s the top of the line that Directed electronics (Viper) can off and is the current flagship model as I’m typing this review. The antenna to the alarm system is the same one that’s used from the 5704v and 5901.

It has a 1 mile range that’s almost flawless and never fails to remote start. With the Dball3 bypass module I’ve notice it has a quicker disengage when your in the vehicle and shut off the remote starter compared to the Dball2.

Cons As wonderful as the HD remote is, it can be a pain to have a big fat remote attached to your car keys. Also in your pocket, because the main controls including the remote start button is facing forward, you can accidentally trigger the remote starter.

The remote is more sensitive and doesn’t really require you to push any buttons. To me it feels more like tapping a button so it can be the reason why I have issues of pushing the remote start button while inside my pocket.

Besides these pros and cons, I’m very happy with an awesome alarm system. Also another fun fact, if you want to easily upgrade to the 5906v without having to re wire and replace the brain of the alarm, all you have to do is buy the 6711T antenna and the 7944v HD viper remote and you can upgrade your system without breaking the bank for another alarm system.

If you really want to save money and still get something awesome from DEI python and Clifford are more affordable and can do the same thing. You can also get the 5706v which is the same as the 5906v besides the antenna and remote.

I know that thieves can still break into your car regardless, but at least the viper alarm is a great deterrent.

The Viper 5906 alarm system has been rated by many consumers as one of the best alarm system in today’s market. However, do not get your hopes too high yet. The Viper 5906V is far from its true reality of being one of the best.

Pros: Most of the development efforts was place of the key-remote control unit. This key-remote control has a nice little color screen with 16 different options to choose from (ex: silent arm or disarm, sensor bypass, remote start, remote valet, car finder).

A second basic remote control unit is included for convinience. Cons: the siren speaker looks and feels like a toy made by fishers-price (I recommend to purchase something bigger and better), the unit itself (Viper 5906) is difficult to install and instructions are not clear enough to follow, technical support is bad (poor service and e-mail replies are conducted once every 60 days), the sensor shock (stinger) can hardly detect movement even when setup to its maximum settings, the parameter sensor is poor calibrated and parameter radio zones can be broken extremely easy allowing the robber to break into the vehicle, when the alarm deploys, the warning signal sent to the key-remote unit can take up to 4-7 seconds.

The Viper 5906V was installed in my vehicle for a month now and I have been able to open, sit, and drive my vehicle for couple miles before the alarm goes off. I have tried many combinations with several position settings that I am just to the point to get this unit out of my vehicle and install something else.

Additionally, the range of one mile for remote start is more like 250 feet in good weather condition. So, there you have it. This is not my first alarm system ever installed. Cheaper alarm system from the local car part store can produce better outcomes for a lot less money! Good luck!.

I love my viper alarm. Now I feel safe leaving my classic car parked at the mall while I shop. I know Viper alarm is protecting my truck. Nothing else comes close.

Overall the system does work, but it has a fatal flaw that is probably going to require me to remove it. One of the reasons I wanted the Drone/LTE capability is that I need to leave my vehicle at the airport frequently for trips (5+ days) and I wanted to be able to start it after I land so it is either cool or warm/defrosted when I get back to the truck.

The problem is that it completely drains my battery (new interstate battery) in about 3-4 days. After testing it, it seems that the LTE module + the remote starter has a parasitic drain and if your vehicle is not started and ran every few days it will kill your battery.

Now, not only can I not start my vehicle before I get back to it, but I have to use a jump pack to start it if I’m gone more than just a few days.

Best Buy did an excellent job of installing my device. Very professional okay. The technician did it in a fashionally time that he said he would do. Still working on how to operate it. But so far I am happy with the product.

I am a big fan of compustar. Light years ahead of the other brands. I have the cellular module along with it. I purchased the premium subscription for my new 4Runner. Excellent response time on the app.

I used their 3g version on my last 4runner. That one was a bit laggy. This version is a must have. They upgrade the app regularly, and I think they do not sell the data.

The only drawback to the 5305L I purchased was no directions, you have to go and download a pdf which wasn’t to bad and print it out. After also printing a wiring diagram of my car it made it much easier.

I also had to purchase extra relays because my car used + output for trunk release and door locks which is pretty common place, but otherwise everything works. The only wire I didnt use that I need to use is the tach wire for the remote start.

I am not driving the car as of yet so I probably need to go back and read the directions a bit more about the auto tach feature because i noticed on a couple or test remote starts the starter will stay engaged until the alarm I figure notices then it will shut down and restart again, the starter didnt stay engaged on the second start, it seems to be random at best, and im not sure if the tach wire has anything to do with it, I just assume.

If you plan on installing this yourself, I recommend going to the Directed Web site and down load installation instructions as they are not included in the kit.

You will need to have a wiring diagram of your vehicle, some automobile electrical repair experience and automotive tools and electrical parts. I installed it without putting the dash back together until I checked it over and made sure everything worked correctly.

Depending on your skills will determine how fast you can install this unit.

Their pricing is very good for all the features included and very reliable! Instructions are clear and easy for anyone with experience to understand! I can’t comment on warranty because after installing likely well over 100+ Avital units I have never had a warranty claim!!!! IF installed correctly, there should never be problems! I highly recommend Avital 5303/5305L units!.

Really!?! I can geofence my vehicle? Track it and play hide and seek with it?!? Highly suggest this system. With the app you can even find your keys if you have The key fob audio turned on. When you unlock the doors or start your vehicle… The key fob beeps.

I’ve ALWAYS been a Viper fan but this system was suggested by my audio tech installer and I’m ecstatic about it.

Loving it so far. Bought the Viper smart start last year and Compustar, by far, outperforms them. The only drawback seems to be that when you start your car with your phone, it automatically unlocks your door.

You can easily lock it back while your car warms up. but still. Other than that, it’s great.

This was installed at best buy on Dec 13. So far works like a charm. Paired it with the dc3 brain module. Like to be able to check the temperature before going into the car.

I purchased a Crimestopper SP-402 Car Alarm with Remote Start. Their design is much the same to the Car Alarm with Remote Start (CS-2011RS IV) I purchased back in 2006. Still on my car today without a single problem! It was a great system then and the SP-402 is a better system for today.

I installed my own system back then and today. It takes a little bit of common electrical understanding to install yourself. The instructions are great and so is the Crimestopper support. Just contact Crimestopper with purchase of new system and they will e-mail you a wire diagram chart for you specific car.

I just recently got the crimestopper sp-402 with remote start and its great. Its my first car alarm and I installed it my self. With the Manual its pretty easy to install. The only think that sucks is the range if you have window tint just find a good place to mount the anntena.

I got my alarm at a pretty good price compared to the other alarms and it seems the pirce went up a little but its still worth the buy.

The alarm works flawlessly. Comes with an easy to read setup manual. The remote start is a masterpiece. Most what I like is the range. 1500 ft thats awesome. For the price of this product i would highly recommend this to anyone.

I have a 2012 Honda Pilot, and I was considering trading up to have more creature comforts. Instead, I decided to add the remote start which helped achieve the upgrade itch without spending several hundred dollars per month in car payments.

The starter works great, and having the drone cellular connection and app has been really useful. This is not normally available on new cars, so this purchase actually exceeded my expectations and helped further justify making the purchase.

The drone app does require a monthly fee of about $10 per month, which is a bargain. I spend that much on one of several streaming services which I barely use. I use this several times per day so no brainer to justify the expense.

There’s no need to use the included remote pendant. I don’t like it anyway because the beeps are quite loud. It also helps you find your car in a large parking lot and will literally track your movement relative to the car location.

Far exceeded the Apple map version which is very limited on accuracy despite it remembering where you car is parked. Best part…. Starting your car several minutes before you get in means a nice temperature in summer or winter.

Hands down one of a top three purchase in recent memory over the past several years. I can now keep tbe car as long as it will last.

This is review only for initial install andd setup. I will do another review after I have had more time to utilize the system. Install went extremely well. Was quoted 3 to 4 hours to complete the job.

Jib was completed in 2 hours and 15 minutes. From the appearance, my car looked exactly as it did when I drop it off. Nothing was scratched or scuffed inside or out. My install was great, knowledgeable, and very professional.

He explained all the features to me after he completed the job. System can with one remote but he set up my two OEM factory remotes so I can use them as well. Dronemobile was installed and came with free 30 day trial.

Setup for that is pretty straightforward. So in actuality I have four different options to start the vehicle. So far I am very happy withmy purchase and the general system operation. This system was purchased and installed at the Willowbrook location Houston, TX.

SO Far So good. I had this installed on a 2017 Ford F-150. I am a Geek Squad total Tech customer so installation was included. The app is pretty nice and very user friendly, I just wish more options were available to the end user rather than having to take your vehicle in every time you want to change something like, amount of time your car will run before it shuts off etc.

Seems this would be easy to add in your options with the app/account but they chose not too. Im also not happy that for my particular vehicle/year I cannot utilize the “pit stop / Idle Mode” which allows you to be running, hit the button, take your key out, leave to run in somewhere and lock the doors.

They claim its due to the firmware on my particular vehicle but kinda sucks, thats one of the nicest features I used on my older 2005 Ford f150 Viper alarm/remote start. So now I have to turn off vehicle, exit and then remote start now, not the end of the world but not as slick as I was told it would be.

The response is pretty good, you get a free month on their app, the only glitch I’m experiencing is the status on the door lock always reads UNLOCKED when I’m driving even though the truck by factory locks once I drive.

Again, minor annoyance. Over all considering it includes the app its makes it a nice feature. I can’t recall how many times ive walked into somewhere and wondered ” did I lock my doors? ” this helps ease your mind and you can lock it remotely, makes it almost worth the cost to have a full subscription.

2 weeks in and im happy so far. I did add the Alarm add-on but beware if your a total tech geek squad member, they will attempt to charge you another $50 for the alarm add-on so ask before you do it.

My bestuy waived the charge due to the misunderstanding. Install was about 4 hours so plan on dropping your vehicle off. Over all compared to whats available, id say this is a pretty nice unit. I got it on a one day sale which was almost half of the full price so I am pleased.

The quality is good but the unit has to have a bypass installed separate unless you have an old car. Installation instructions are so generic as to be virtually worthless. If you are planning to have it installed at a shop you will not be disappointed.

Been installing for 20yrs when you want something that just works and reliable, you cant go wrong with DEI products.

Awful product. Didnt come with any installation guide or anything. I understand every vehicle is different, but there wasn’t even as much as a piece of paper explaining what is what.

I have ONE tracker that worked perfectly for November and a couple weeks into Dec. I had my mechanic that installed ALL the trackers unplugged and replug in the tracker. He reported that the lights all lite up correctly.

That tracker worked for a few hours. Has not worked since. Even had my mechanic test it AGAIN. Nothing at all this time. The tracker I am referring to is #33327947 Please contact me to resolve this issue.

I have called about this issue once in Jan. tried several things I stated above, to no satisfactory resolve to this issue. J. Plante Small Town Bussing llc.

We purchased the tracker to watch dad on his travels. He goes 2 miles each day to visit mom in the senior center and occasionally elsewhere. A few times he has gotten lost and the tracker leads us right to him via our phone app.

While not a foolproof solution, this device should be a pretty good deterrent for a common thief. It would require much more time and effort to defeat. Not as effective as a “boot” but a good tool for the price.

Fantastic way to immobilize your trailer from thieves. Has a very unique round barrel key that cant be duplicated or picked.

I’m using this on a trailer that I have set up for my electrical construction company. We have a job that will take us to 25 school buildings in a little lower year. This help secure the trailer and chock in place all in one movement.

It’s easy to install the locks work great. Very pleased with the purchase and the price.

This thing looks ok when you install it, although pretty thin metal. I forgot to remove it and drove off with it installed. It split open and I never even knew it was on until I came back hone and found it laying right where it came off the tire.

It wouldnt stop a thief at all.

Well made product that should work well. I put it on my trailer immediately and feel more secure now since I live in the country and am not always at home to watch for thieves.

I needed more security for my contractor cargo trailer so I got online and looked at lots of options. I saw several “boot” type locks for twice the price as this one but I liked the design and price of the Trimax so I bought it.

I have had it several weeks and am very pleased with it. It is very secure and pretty simple to take on and off. It is also a very good visual deterent.

I feel like DEI products have lost some of their appeal. I grew up with DEI viper products and they were very high quality but now they seem a bit water down. This system is not bad but is not great either.

The one button remote is horrible, so if you buy this system do your self a favor and buy the better extra five button remote. You will save your self a headache. You can also buy the alarm add on for this RS system.

Make sure to talk with an experienced live autotech to see if this system is compatible with your vehicle. Do not trust anyone else even if they work for Best Buy, or you will get the wrong information.

After my car got broken into in my driveway it was clear that my safe/secure home was not so safe or secure anymore. I had the viper alarm system along with the remove start system. The remote system is a definite must have for the viper alarm system.

Being able to start the car from inside the house with the confidence that the car will be there when I get ready to leave.

I purchased this for a 99 crown victoria and it said it was comparable. First my install was pushed back several times all for me to get there today and for them to tell they couldnt do the install because I didnt have both master keys which the wedsite never said.

I read the reviews throughly and it said nothing of the sort. This was purchased back in May, it is now June 4th way beyond the return period. Absolutely absurd!.
