14 Best Car Trim Adhesive (2022 Updated)

My Cavalier’s car molding has been peeling from the car for a couple of years. The rear doors started first, and when they got about half off, I removed them by hand. When the front door’s molding started peeling, I found this product.

The molding had about a 60 bend in them. Half was still attached to the car, but half was flapping in the breeze. The sun had helped shape the molding, not straight. I was concerned about the adhesiveness of this product being able to straighten the molding.

After cutting this molding tape to approximately what was hanging off the car, it was a little tricky to get the old caulk removed and this tape installed. But after doing the best I could, I pushed the molding against the car door firmly.

I remembered what 3-M said about their adhesive coat-hooks (press firmly for 60+ seconds), so I took that and did the same for the molding. I pressed it for three minutes, and cautiously released my pressure.

Well, three weeks later, and both front door moldings are still adhering in place. Multiple rain storms, and freezing temperatures too. So far, so good. I will update if the molding begins to release.

Newer Ford Explorer owner, I found the door trim between front and rear doors is held on with this tape. Living in SW Florida, parts sometimes are hard to get local. I searched for dbl sided trim tape and Auto Zone was first to show inventory.

Tape works great and after a good cleaning of old tape and residue, my Explorer looks good again.

Sticks well at first, but doesn’t last. Used it to fasten hot tub trim… came back off just after 2 weeks. Very expensive, poor quality. Gorilla brand two-sided tape works better.

JB had amazingly speedy shipping. I just hated the product. It was terrible to apply & adhere. I had much better luck with a cheaper DIY store alternative.

If you need an industrial grade contact cement, this is the stuff. I needed to bond a copper sheet to a piece of plywood. This did the trick. Just be very careful when mating the surfaces. I did one perfectly but screwed the other one up and got a big old crease down the middle.

Fortunately I had enough extra material to just cover over the mistake with a whole new sheet.

I was installing the interior in a project car carpets door panels and several other items that required leather to be bound to different medium they supplied a spray contact adhesive then I remembered the years I worked at Sikorsky aircraft and what they used this stuff is the real McCoy done proper your products will not come apart.

This is the quality brand to buy in my opinion. This spray needs to be used in a well ventilated area like your garage with the door open or even outside. The fumes are very strong, but this spray really sticks.

I use it for quilt backs to batting and then to the front which is much easier than crawling around on the floor. You can adhere things for upholstery also. A good product that works.

I’ve used this 3 M products for 30+ years. It does the job but not as easy as it did with the formula 30+ years ago. I’ve tried other products and this current formula is still the best on the market.

Just remember to let it soak on the surface you are spraying a little longer than what you might have in the past.

Wow. 30 second after spray and surface was tacky. My car headliner was re-affixed to roof of my car. Worth the money. Just remember to use gloves, hat, mask, and glasses to prevent aerosol glue to land on you or in you eyes.

Used the product on affix dual plastic emblems to a boat. Two months later I discovered a rust/yellowish ooze had wept its way out and is now fully adhered to the white gelcoat. The surface was cleaned with acetone prior and applied indoors at approximately 75 degrees.

It’s high viscosity made applying quite challenging and was compounded by aggresively seting within 10 seconds into a even thicker mess. 3M was chosen from brand confidence and as this was a restoration for a customer, I didn’t want to risk my reputation over something so amateurish as screwing up a simple, yet essential asthetic.

I’m sure this product in general is most likely very good, but for this job it did not perform well.

This stuff literally ruined the paint on my car. It is the biggest hassle to work with because it is too thick and very stringy. A small amount seeped out under the badge from the pressure of pushing on it, didn’t notice until an hour later, and it took the paint on my trunk right off with it.

Not happy.

Holds well. It made it through my harsh winter here in Nebraska. I used this to reapply my body trim. Be careful, because this can act like a paint thinner if you get it somewhere you didn’t mean to.

Polymat 797 works as advertised. I highly recommend it. The adhesive holds strong and applies evenly. Follow the directions on the can and you shouldnt have any issues. Ive tried many types of contact adhesives for doing the headliner of my vehicle.

Theyve included two different 3m adhesives, Loctite and Weld Wood. They either dont apply well or wont hold the headliner to the backer and they fail with in a month or two of the installation. Polymat 797 has been great so far.

Its lasted longer than anything Ive used. Hopefully this is the last time Ill have to replace my headliner.

I used this product on the only headliner install Ive done. In reading reviews there were others who complained of it not adhering and falling off. I dont know what method they used. But, if you apply liberally and remove the old foam completely from the headliner itll work just fine.

I used this on 98 f-150 single cab and I went through one whole can and part of the second. And that was due to my liberal application. I would recommend this to anyone. Great product.

Sprays on very well, and there is enough glue in four cans to do a headliner in an extended cab Silverado. Glad is ready for applying the liner in five minutes. It holds the liner really well while you fit it to all the recess areas and work your way out to the sides and ends.

You can reinstall the headliner in an hour or two. All in all this is a great glue for headliners. Works really well.

One of the best adhesive/ sealers on the market. iv,e used it for years. Will stick almost anything to anything. i fixed a solar panel on my motorhome roof with it just a blobs on each corner bracket.

no drilling. that was it. seven years ago, still as secure as when it was put on. Used it to seal leaks in my garage. perfect. and it remains flexible. all the shelves in my garage are fixed on with Tiger Seal.

Used it to fill gaps in the metalwork joins under the rear mudguards of a couple of Honda C90 motorcycles & it stuck really well – like the proverbial! It skinned over well & accepted paint over it with no problems.

I would certainly use it again.

This polyurethane sealant will stick almost anything to anything! There seems to be no end to the type of surface it will stick to. For a sealant it makes a remarkable adhesive as well as an efficient sealer.

Works great. Installed new door leather inserts on my 2007 Ford Mustang and the job went great. Tacks up nicely in 5 minutes, and allows for some repositioning as necessary. Looks to be a strong bond.

I bought this because of the advertised resistance to heat. Time will tell if that’s true in our hot climate, but so far the car looks great.

This Polymat 797 Spray Glue Hi Temp Spray works on my car perfectly, it’s user friendly, so far so good. two thumbs up.

Used tiger seal many time alway great. The box it arrived in was massive for one tube. Could of held approximately 40 tubes. And would of taken up a lot of room in the delivery van. Only saying this because its not environmentally efficient.

The bigger the box the less parcels on the van more trips needed.

Other sealant adhesive manufacturers use a whole range of products, some so varied they are into 3-figure varieties. This one product will stick and seal all. Metal, glass, GRP, wood, Ive used it on all materials.

Window fitters use it to stick windscreens on. Best used warm, as cold its tough to pump from the tubes. We have a big build going on and I get anxious unless I have a dozen tubes available. Want to see what weve stuck with it ? Search for appledore92 on YouTUBE.

i have used tiger seal before and it does what it is meant to do, this is an excellent price, fast delivery. the only drawback is that once opened it does tend to harden off in the tube but when using it for first time it is easy and smooth coming out of the tube, great product.

Required cold weld application with a grey colour for commercial kitchen vinyl flooring. Prepared floor area used sealant and left to set. Perfect.

In between uses I put it in the deep freezer. It stays uncured if you do that. Thaws relatively quickly. Holding power is very strong.

There are times when “black” colored silicone adhesive or sealant is nice to have. There are not many brands of black colored silicone in a tube out there, and Permatex is probably the best of those.

With regard to the adhesion and “texture” of the product once set, I can only compare it to the GE Silicone which works so well. I think the GE Silicone II is top notch: Dries firm yet pliable and has excellent adhesion.

This Permatex product, not as much. I have found that while it is a good sealer where a black silicone is needed, it is not a “great” sealer as it can be a little runny, a thinner viscosity than the clear GE Silicone, and takes seemingly long to dry.

I also had a project “pull apart” using the Permatex only to re-do it with GE Silicone II to achieve satisfactory results. The “rare” black color earns it credit. But the dry time, inconsistent setting up and lack of finished pliability knocks it down.

Overall, 4 stars although I wish it were worthy of a 5th star.

The adhesion of this product seems to do a decent enough job but the weak packaging and lid that does not screw on tight make this horribly messy and nearly impossible to use. I had to re-tighten the cap every few seconds after trying to squeeze sealant out of it.

The tip doesn’t stay screwed on and then begins to wobble and eventually pops off, causing sealant to squirt out the bottom of the threading area. Additionally, it smears horribly when you need to wipe it off and is almost like trying to wipe away really thick engine sludge.

The tubing is really weak too and kept developing new holes all over anytime I would squeeze hard or have to fold it over to push more sealant out. I would not recommend this product. Felt like a waste of money.

This thing has come in handy more times than I can count. Customizing vehicles comes with uncertainty. Sometime parts fit, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they need a little modifying. I use this to seal small gaps and install small aftermarket parts where bolts/rivets are not an option.

Unlike other sealants that become super rigid, this becomes solid but still flexible. Perfect for my use when mocking up parts temporarily. When removing sealant it comes off clean without leaving residue.

This sealant is the equivalent of zip ties, it’s a must in any garage.
