20 Best Carafe Coffee Makers (2022 Updated)

I would agree with most of the positive points in other reviews. Overall, it’s a great coffee maker. However, it has a few annoying, problematic issues that I shouldn’t have to deal with in a top-of-the-line, $300 coffee maker, which is why the 3 stars (and why I wouldn’t buy it again):1) [the most annoying] When you rinse out the carafe lid, it’s really difficult to drain all the water out, and you can hear it sloshing around inside (and then you imagine trapped water growing mold).

The only way I’ve found to drain out the water (at least to the point of not hearing sloshing) is to hold it over the sink with the “filler” and “pour” holes oriented vertically (basically, turn it 90 degrees) and shake it vigorously up and down for about a full minute until I don’t see big water drops coming out any more (then check it again for sloshing)….

and then do this EVERY DAY after making coffee for the entire life of the product. Very annoying. 2) The lip of the carafe is designed so that it traps a small amount of liquid when you try to pour it all out — so when you rinse and try to empty it, there’s always a little bit of water left at the bottom.

You could dry with a towel or let it air dry a long time — but again, annoying. 3) Periodically, the reservoir needs to be washed (or at least rinsed to get any sediment out). Because the reservoir can’t be removed from the base unit, this becomes another annoying ordeal, as follows: unplug the base unit, take it over the sink, and tilt it over so that the reservoir is over the sink (and inverted at least slightly downwards, not just horizontal) to be washed, rinsed, and drained.

Then (in an acrobatic maneuver), hold the base unit suspended as previously described with one hand while simultaneously with the other hand managing the sink faucet (hopefully with a telescopic hose that can be extended for rinsing the now-inverted reservoir/base unit), the soapy sponge, and the rinsing and draining itself.

Again, it makes great coffee, but for $300, I want it to make great coffee and not incite me to shake my fist in the air at Breville.

Why didn’t you post my review? In short, the machine is just okay. Has many functions but the manual is lacking many fine details especially when it comes to using the pourover adapter and lacks explanation of whether using My Brew settings applies to single cup (less than 20-ounce) or also applies to brewing over 40 ounces.

Does not explain what happens if using basket filter if brewing less than 20 ounces. Once, after about 3 months (I’ve had it since June 2022) the over ice and cold brew functions disappeared from LCD even though I had less than 20 ounces of water in tank.

I very gently poked my finger on the screen at bottom of tank and the functions reappeared and so far issue hasn’t came back. Also I don’t recommend using a Kalita-185 with pourover adapter as the basket overflows every time.

This is regardless of what grind size and what flow rate you use. I spoke with support and they just kept saying I should use a coarser grind. I have a Vario-886 with ceramic burrs that Baratza fitted with metal burr carriers.

It is calibrated to factory specifications but it doesn’t matter how coarse I set grind the Kalita-185 still overflows even with smallest of dose. At the price point I cannot recommend the machine. Especially since tech support is so poor.

I so wanted this to be the one! I looked at a bunch of nice coffee makers and always liked Breville products so I decided to go for this machine. I often use good quality coffee and I was hoping I would get a great cup from this one.

it also looked really nice. At first the coffee I brewed had no flavor so I re checked the instructions and tweaked some settings to give me what I wanted. to no avail. I don’t use the machine every day, so I thought that it might make better coffee after a few more uses.

After the sixth time using it, the machine said I needed to descale, so I thought if I did, it would help the flavor. Nope. And actually, this machine says it needs to be descaled after very little usage, which is very, very annoying.

I believe I have followed all of the instructions with regards to brewing, cleaning and maintaining, but I cannot seem to get a flavorful cup of coffee from this supposedly sophisticated machine. What is worse, is that my boyfriend’s mom’s old, basic and boring Braun put this Breville to shame, and now that we live together, his ugly machine takes center stage on our counter! Oh, and I was going to say at least the Breville is good looking, but the fake silver on the machine chipped after the second week and the stainless colors on the carafe and the body don’t match.

So disappointed with this coffeemaker. This is my second Bonavita, when the first one died, I bought the connoisseur model. My main complaint is that the coffee is not hot enough and the carafe does not keep the coffee hot at all.

The temperature I measured right after brewing is 165 degrees Fahrenheit and loses heat quickly. When I complained to them, they just offered excuses that were irrelevant. So I do not recommend this coffeemaker at all and my next purchase will be a different brand altogether.

I’ve seen this being used before and knew plenty of people who owned one but I’ve never used one myself. I worked in specialty coffee shops for six years and have spent a lot of time learning many different brews.

It’s a great skill to have if you’re nerdy about coffee but after being out of it for awhile now, I just want to have consistently good coffee without going through the motions. All in all, if you’re looking to get consistently good drip everyday without the hassle of doing pour over coffees or using overly complicated auto drips, this machine will gladly fill the void.

I am the type of person who likes very strong coffee with out a fuss. My old coffee maker finally died and was in need of a replacement. I went through 4 different coffee makers, all good rated name brands.

They either didn’t make strong coffee, or was a pain to use, grounds boiled over and one even leaked. All high dollar items. I had seen this one, but there was a some negative reviews out there and I shied away.

My mistake. This unit checks all my boxes. It make good strong coffee, no grounds boiling over and no mess. It’s easy to empty the grounds and to refill. It fits my travel mug with no splatter over mess.

Very simple to use. The only thing I don’t like about it is were to off/ on switch is , My setup works best with the switch in the front. I cant attest to the thermal pot as I so far have not used it.

Had you asked me 3 months ago, I’d given it 5 stars. Today, however it is one. I purchased this mid September 2019, and for the past month, it has been dying a slow death (it’s December of 2021) Despite regular cleanings with citric acid, it started being obnoxiously loud while brewing, and it takes 15 minutes or longer now to brew 6 cups.

Occasionally, it will stop mid brew cycle and beep, and only way to get it going is to lift water tank and reseat it. I was in love with it, in fact i even purchased new lid when the old one became impossible to clean.

I figured, it is japanese made, it will last for years, well, it lasted 2! As i am writing this, i have coffee set on a timer for 3:20 am. So we will either get awakened by its loud brewing that can be heard thru entire house, or we will wake up at 4 to no coffee at all.

I am not getting another Zojirushi anything.

I needed to replace a Motif coffee maker that was not heating properly. While I wanted to get a Mochamaster, it simply was not in my budget. After much searching I opted for the Zojirushi. The online reviews were stellar with the only downside was the reviews that complained about a bitter brew.

My experience is that a bad coffee is the result of either cheap beans or non-filtered water. I use neither. Upon delivery I washed the parts and ran three water rinses. I then brewed a pot. I’m now in coffee nirvana! Delicious and hot.

I’m tasting nuanced flavor that I never tasted before. A great brew from a great product. Highly recommend!.

This is at least our 4th Zojirushi small appliance. They’ve all been reliable in their performance; great quality! We were attracted to this particular coffee maker because of its clear water tank, stainless steel thermal carafe (that does not require removal of the lid during the brewing process), and ease of operation.

We really like that, once the brew process is complete, pulling the carafe out does not result in any drops from the filter. Plus, the carafe has a positive shut-off in that no coffee drips from the spout after having poured a cup.

Last, but not least, the coffee tastes great!!.

This is my second Bonavita coffee maker. My original was their thermal carafe version. I hated the carafe. it is a horrid design. It isnt very thermal, you cant get the coffee out completely, you cant pour coffee without the top on and it leaks most of the time you pour.

So with all those negatives. you might wonder why I would consider buying another product from the same company. ? Well that is how good the brewer is. ! It really makes a nice cup of coffee. So when my original started to act up.

It wasnt brewing completely, it would turn off and still have water in the reservoir. Descaling the machine often times fixed the problem. but I saw the writing on the wall. I ordered this unit which has the exact same brewing unit, so it brews the same excellent cup of coffee.

In addition it also has a glass carafe which you can pour with or without the top on. You can obviously see how much is left, and cleans out easily. The hot plate keeps the coffee warm (in fact I think it increases the heat) but without giving a burnt taste to the coffee.

I highly recommend this brewer. Not the fanciest bells and whistles type machine. But if your goal is excellent coffee. this is for you.

After 10 days of use, the spray head on this brand new ‘elite’ coffeemake began delivering water to an empty hot plate. This happened with the lid in full upright position, a design ‘feature’ supposed to prevent that trigger.

A Bunn Bunn customer service rep informed me the machine wasn’t meant to ‘hold water for an extended period’. Fact: I dawdled for several ‘extended’ seconds while adding coffee grounds to the brew funnel.

Rational #2: ‘the teeniest little bit’ can interfere with a rubber stopper that keeps the water in check while the lid is up. Well, this stopper cannot be visually checked without removing the top cover of the machine.

After 10 days of use, I kinda don’t expect to disassemble the thing in pursuit of a ‘teensy little’ obstruction. Then get this: you can crawl your fingers all around the hermetically-sealed device w/o finding any means of actually removing that top cover.

It’s a secret even the manual does not divulge. In conclusion: For an irritating, intensive wake-up routine, this is the machine for you. If you prefer cruising calmly into your day, save a bunch of money and choose a good old pedestrian workhorse.

Most any other brand, I would think.

Very disappointed with this purchase. I really enjoy a good cup of coffee. Seriously, I grind coffee beans every morning prior to brewing. I love the aroma and the experience. I decided to upgrade my brewing game and splurge on my very first Bunn.

However, I am SO disappointed! My coffee is never truly hot. It is consistently lukewarm at best. I followed the setup instructions as outlined. However, even after a week and a half of using it, the temperature has not improved.

I plan on returning it. My parents have had a different model Bunn for years. I hope that my issue solely based on this particular model and not the quality of the brand.

After years of mediocre machines ending up in the garbage, I finally decided it was time to invest in a good machine. As a member of the hospitality industry I am more than familiar with the Bunn brand and it’s restaurant provenance.

Quick shipping from ECS. I cannot say how pleased we are with this machine! A full pot brews immediately and unbelievably quickly (you can just stand and wait for it!). it’s an absolutely delicious, café quality cup with every dripless pour.

The machine is also almost absolutely silent while brewing, a great bonus if you don’t want to disturb a sleeping household. I highly recommend!!!.

Got this little coffee maker for a once a day single cup. The stainless carafe is cute and functional. I’ve had to throw coffee makers away for lack of ability to find a replacement when the glass carafe broke.

This investment looks well worth it. The coffee is good. I love the ability to buy the single switch- no complicated programming needed, no unnecessary clock, etc. The auto shut off is helpful. One improvement I can suggest is the lid.

I couldn’t figure out how to remove it. Now have to juggle it to put it back on. Not sure why it’s different than most and is fussy to get it right. That’s a small point to the perfection of the unit otherwise.

I’m very pleased with this one switch, unbreakable stainless pot coffee maker. Oh and it sits under the cupboard even when the lid is open (I always let the tank air dry after brewing. ).

This is lovely to look at, but there are quirks that are particularly annoying in the morning prior to a cup of java. The top is not easy to remove or replace on the carafe; it takes two hands and a bit of thinking.

The carafe has no measurement for the water, so I invariably have to pour some out or add some before turning the pot on. The design of the top, which lifts when water is poured, is poor because it obstructs the pouring of the last little bit of water.

Then brewing of the coffee takes more than twice as long as my miniature Mr. Coffee pot did. More than irksome is the fact that the carafe does not keep the coffee hot, the main reason for going for a carafe in the first place.

I have to microwave every cup after the first. I remember when Cuisinart was a name that assured quality but, alas, that’s in the past.

The unit makes great coffee, looks nice, carafe keeps the coffee hot, and I like that it has a self-shut off feature in case I accidentally leave it on. I don’t make coffee daily, and have probably used this a dozen times.

It’s starting to make a little snapping sound, and it recently kicked the breaker on the GFCI outlet it’s plugged into, so keeping an eye on that. The two things I really don’t like: the carafe lid is extremely hard to remove (I have arthritis), and the black plastic “ring” around the top of the carafe is not sealed.

After pouring coffee or washing the carafe, coffee/water stays in the ring resulting in it dripping down both the outside and inside of the carafe (think old coffee/dishwater seeping back into your pot of fresh coffee).

I have a feeling this coffeemaker won’t last very long, which is disappointing because they did a lot of things right.

Setting this thing up is a complete nightmare. There are like 30 screens just to create an account in their app, including a mandatory step to give them your address and phone number and share location info from your phone.

Of course they’re going to sell all that info, it’s the only possible reason they could have for requiring it, so get ready for lots of spam. Then once you finally manage to get logged in setting up the WiFi is a complete nightmare.

The app is very buggy, you have to track down a password on a label and they don’t tell you which one, turns out it’s on the back of the machine which also needs to stay plugged in so you’ll have to do some awkward maneuvering trying to turn it around to see the password.

Once you have the password it still keeps failing log in and the app keeps getting confused about what step you’re on and kicking you out. Maybe if you’re lucky it connects eventually after several tries.

I have so many other smart devices where you just scan one QR code or connect over Bluetooth and it’s set done. This coffee maker really sucks in comparison and everyone who worked on building this product should be ashamed of themselves.

Prettiest Coffee Maker out there. Honestly I can verify that as aesthetically pleasing as this is? The Coffee is still far better out of the Breville Precision Brewer. I wanted to like this. The Handle in bronze and accents are so high end looking.

I don’t like that the lid is hinged on the water reservoir- it would be better if it just lifted off like the Breville so the water tank can dry between uses. Also, the hinged lid on the coffee side is more aggravating than the pull out configuration on the Breville because you have to pull this machine out from underneath the upper cabinets to add coffee in the machine.

Those are the two biggest design mistakes of this machine. That needs to be corrected!! I’m not sure why the coffee isn’t as good from this Cafe as the Breville Precision Brewer. Must be the heating element designs.

Really wish Cafe would address these issues because this is the nicest looking coffee maker I’ve seen- it’s just lacking in design features and the coffee isn’t up to par with the Breville! I’m just being honest.

This coffee brew central looks great but it has a very dumb measuring device. There is no exterior window so you cannot easily see how much water has been added except if you look on the carafe scale which is not always accurate.

The measuring device is INSIDE the water reservoir and it contains a white step-like ladder with numbers to show how much water has been added. It is truly impossible to see in the well and accurately know how much coffee to water ratio is needed.

I was sent this coffeemaker free as a replacement for the one I had that stopped working so I feel terrible complaining but it is not nearly as good as the one I had. My old one was a 14 cup programmable coffeemaker with an exterior clear measuring device for the amount of water being added and this one is a 12 cup one (I am not unhappy with that) with a stupid, dumb, how could-anyone-design-such a coffeemaker without an exterior, viewable gauge.

I had the feeling Cuisinart realized there was a huge problem and they have a large inventory of these machines so they were happy to send me one free and make the company look great. The company may be great but this coffeemaker is not great at all.

Overall this a good coffee maker. I can’t say it stands out over the others in any big way. Below are a few things that I wish were better. Most of these things would make the coffee machine more durable and increase the products life cycle.

I get the sense this one will be headed to the landfill just as soon as my previous black and decker. I strongly feel the Cuisinart brand should turn their focus to producing more sustainable products.

1) The pot’s lid to self-align better for attaching. 2) The pot’s lid attaching to the pot. I feel over time this may wear out and not hold to the pot. Hopefully I’m not pouring coffee for my grandfather at the time.

3) The button’s, nob’s, and switch to be more robust. They just seem a bit cheap. 4) While filling the machine with water: the water fill port, makers lid, and coffee pot do not allow enough clearance to empty all of the water into the machine.

I’m not sure which piece is at fault, I can think of a few solutions to the design that would alleviate the problem. I also would prefer to fill the machine while holding the pot in my left hand. With the port on the right side I find myself using my right hand.

I got one of these in 2012. It’s worked great. Makes hot decent coffee every time. 9 years on an appliance–can’t beat that either! Yes clean w/ vinegar a couple times a year. Yes use filtered water if you can.

Yes–make sure you push the carafe all the way onto the burner before you hit on or set the timer. Feel free to add paper filters to your basket if you like that for extra filtering but I like the included filter and those things don’t wear out–the gold color does nothing so don’t worry about the shine of the reusable filter basket fading –it’s about the mesh.

The only down side (very minor) is pouring the water in. Just do it slowly and carefully, limited space to do that but that’s common in many machines these days.

I wanted to believe this was going to be a good coffee maker. I have been purchasing specialty coffee machines for years now and have noticed that some of the best drip coffee makers haven’t caught up with the pleasing design aesthetics.

Enter this specific machine, which is beautiful in viewable aesthetic, but trust me when I say the quality design ends with the appearance. Having a coffee machine that consistently overflows grounds out of the machine and into the carafe is a huge flaw.

Having a response from GE that you should simply change your coffee settings is a complete copout. If you are going to market an SCA certified coffee maker on par with customizable settings and price of that of a Breville Precision Brewer or Technivorm Moccamaster and then respond to an overflowing brew basket with a response of “grind your coffee coarser”, then you are completely negating any possibility of quality comparison.

I’ve used a Bonavita with the exact same grind settings for the last 5 years and never once had an overflown grounds basket. GE figured out a dirty secret that unfortunately most consumers will conflate “pretty” design with quality and that has allowed them to reskin their existing appliances with a few cool colors and accent metals and then charge 40% more without actually giving you the value return on your investment.

I fell for it with this purchase. For the money, I will return this machine and get one of the, albeit less pretty, but better built machines at the price point. I’m assuming the recent price drop on this machine is a quiet acknowledgment of lacking quality in the market.

I bought this in late September and it worked perfectly then. Very quiet, could only hear a very faint hum when it was brewing, and the wifi capability and scheduling was very convenient for me. It is now February of the next year and for some odd reason, the past 2 weeks it has been making a really loud and unpleasant screeching noise during brewing.

I tried descaling and unplugging it for 3 mins (like this other reviewer was told) and nothing helped. It’s not like I overuse it or anything, I only make a mug or 1. 5 mugs a day. I think this unit is beautifully designed with good features but if it’s going to be like this then maybe you are better off buying something else.

Especially because it is not cheap. Other things: the coffee that comes out of this is good. I don’t think it is winning any awards anytime soon. It is limited intrinsically by the design of the showerhead.

I have a pourover at home and if I had enough time most days to make something truly awe-inspiring I would have. Alas, I bought this for a reason — a good pourover with freshly ground beans is going to be a 8-10/10 maybe, this is getting you towards a 7.

It’s definitely not NASTY or burnt. Just a bit less aromatic and nuanced than something at a 3rd wave coffee shop, but duh. But consider that this convenience is a 9/10 (I suppose you do have to fill the basket yourself.

), vs. doing a pourover is a 5-6/10. Honestly, if it weren’t for the mechanical issues I mentioned above I would be recommending this left and right. If you are thinking of buying this for the features, and are okay with this possible risk, go for it.

It has a 1 year warranty that I am currently trying to see if customer service is going to honor.

Landed on this machine after returning a Moccamaster because there were just to many pieces and parts to deal with every day. So satisfied with the exchange. This machine makes great coffee and has convenience features that set it apart.

We wake up at different times throughout the week depending on schedules so it’s not always convenient to just set my coffee to run at a certain time in the morning. I set this machine up at night, and when we’re ready for coffee, I just reach over for my phone & turn the machine on via the app.

When I hear the chime alerting me that the coffee is brewed I can make my first trip downstairs for coffee. It also has four different brew strengths to choose from and you absolutely can tell the difference.

All were good coffee, but medium and gold are our favorites. Lastly, it is easy to clean – the shower head cover piece comes of easily to clean oil from coffee grinds that rise with steam during brewing, the filter basket comes out easily to trash the used filter and rinse, and the lid on the carafe comes off with a large enough opening to reach in and clean the carafe properly (maybe not for very large hands, but you can see clearly in to clean well.

I love this machine and am happy with the purchase. It’s been worth the price to me.

In my experience with this machine, the quality is horrible. I have a Ninja food processor that I loved, and read amazing things about this coffee maker but have been sooo disappointed in both the machine and Ninja in general.

The machine started leaking out of the bottom within 4 months of me purchasing it. The first time I called (after doing all the recommended cleaning and etc. ) Ninja attempted to charge me for the filter holder they said I needed.

After I let them know I felt that I should not need to pay for a replacement part so soon after purchasing the machine, they agreed to send it to me free of charge. As soon as I got it, I replaced it on my machine (it looks exactly like the piece it was replacing, so not sure what gasket thing was missing??).

The issue continued and actually got worse. After finally having enough of losing 1/3 of my cup of coffee onto my counter every day I called again. First they tried to recommend replacing the same part again – which, fine.

but seems to me like that’s not the issue. Then they said it may be better to replace the whole unit. Okay, great. But here’s the kicker. I need to pay for shipping ($22) AND I have to cut the cord on the current machine BEFORE they place the order.

So. let me get this Ninja – I (the customer who spent 200+ dollars on your machine already) now needs to fork out more money AND go without coffee for 2 weeks because of your equipment failing? They did eventually say they would cover shipping.

Thank goodness because I have no assurance that the new machine will work any better – in my experience the replacement worked worse then the original, so why would this be any different? But I am the one who is out a coffee maker.

And the kicker to me was that the lady I spoke to then told me, just to let you know, this is the last replacement we are sending you for free. Excuse me?? You wouldn’t have to keep sending me replacement pieces or machines if your machine actually did what you advertised it would do, so please don’t make it sound like I’m the inconvenience or somehow causing this equipment to fail and poor coffee all over my counter.

Specially after I’m the one who is having to go without coffee. I am very disappointed and it’s not likely I will look at Ninja again anytime soon. The machine itself is really great, I do love all the features.

It’s just not worth the money I spent for now having to clean up a mess daily.

Over 5 years ago we got our first Ninja coffee bar and we loved it. It recently stopped working so we went ahead and got this coffee and tea maker. We LOVED it until about 3 weeks into using it, it started leaking- around the water reservoir area.

It was a slow leak meaning you could make coffee but if you set it for delay brew, like we always do, you wake up in the morning with most of the water on your floor and counter. I contacted customer support and they sent a new reservoir two days ago.

Well that didn’t fix the problem so I called customer support today and she said they would send a whole new product, but: 1. I would have to pay $20. 99 shipping and handling 2. I would need to cut the cord on my current one before they would send out the new one.

Well. I already paid $200 for the coffee pot and because they sent me a defective one I would have to pay an additional $20 to have it sent? NO WAY! After some back and forth they woman said “out of good faith, we’ll waive the fee this time.

” My second issue is that she said it would be 5-10 business days before a new one got sent out and they wouldn’t do that until I cut the cord on my current one and provided them proof. Well, since I don’t have multiple coffee pots lying around, that doesn’t work either.

The product may work, not fully as it should, but why should I continue to have to sacrifice FOR THEIR ERROR!? I seriously don’t understand why this is so hard to fix their problem. Their problem that is under “warranty” So after two more calls, a bunch of my time, they finally agreed to waive the fee, send me a new product and allow me to “cut the cord” on video as soon as I get the product or my new warranty would be void.

I’m still in shock that a company that I have purchased multiple products from would be so hard to deal with. All I want is a working coffee pot, with all the features I paid money for to work. I am super disappointed.

Like I said, it took hours or my time to get what I paid for and you would think they would try to make it easier to retain customers. Fair warning for everyone. I was a shark and ninja customer, but after this I won’t be.

Three vacuums, two coffee bars, a food processor, blender, air fryer and grill. RUN!! On another point, why can’t they just have me send it back so they can refurbish and resell?! Seems like a great way to make your company more sustainable instead of filling landfills with coffee pots with cut cords.

We went from many years using a French Press to this model. Read articles about using a filter more healthy (you can google it). I read a lot of recommendations (e. g. , wirecutter) and focused on Breville since we have been using their bean grinder for @10 years.

This makes a clean smooth cup of coffee which I call high-end restaurant quality. I read a lot of reviews and a bit nervous about negative items, which is the main reason I’m posting. First, the negative – it’s not clear which filter sizes you need to buy.

I went through manual etc and wrote to Breville but not answer until days later and I accidently deleted it from my spam. Good news is I purchased a bunch of filters and the best to use with the funnel filter is Melitta brown #4.

Without the funnel, I like the large white ones provided; however, I ordered Melitta 8-12 cup and while it works they are very shallow (not deep like the ones which comes with the unit). For the single cup I bought Hario #02 but I doubt I ever use it.

We like a full pot and not sure I’ll take the time to figure out how to configure the single cup. I flushed the unit according to the directions. On to the positive: Been using it daily for over a month now.

I fill the carafe to the Max line and fill up coffee maker. We are liking the bean grinder six cup amount. Measuring according to directions was 9 or 10 and too strong. Six is strong enough and smooth using the Gold setting on the front.

I haven’t moved it since. It takes about 7 or 8 minutes to brew and it’s not loud at all, in fact I like hearing it brewing after using French Press all these years. Easier to clean too. Some complained about water in the filler remaining after it’s done.

I watched and all the water emptied and then some type of slight backflush put some water back. Not a big deal. I take two paper towels and fold until it fits into the bottom drain. While I’m throwing out filter and rinsing filter housing, the water in the drain is now dry.

I flip the paper towel over and soak up other parts. Squeeze out water in drain then I use wet paper towel to clean the shower housing, filter housing holder and the bottom of unit. Then I keep the filler top off for rest of day to ensure it dries.

Much easier and faster and better tasking than french press. We’re happy and it just fits under out cabinets. I’m picky and don’t have any complaints.

This coffee maker is awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to brew large pots of drip coffee at home. It is very simple to clean by running a vinegar cycle if you get hard water build up. I love the clear reservoir on the side so you can see how much water is in it so you don’t overfill and you can see how much is left to brew when it’s running.

So many other coffee makers have an opaque reservoir or it is located on the back. This one being off to the side makes it so much easier onto access and fill. The insulated carafe on this maker is amazing too.

It keeps your coffee hot for hours without burning it. The only downfall of this coffee maker is that it’s quite tall and it spews a lot of steam when it’s brewing. Be careful not to place it under your kitchen cabinets.

Because if this it takes up a lot of real estate on the countertops. If you’re not committed to consuming minimum a pot a day I would just get a nice french press but if you go through outlooks pots a day (as my household does) this coffee maker is amazing and you should definitely buy it.

I bought this machine during the pandemic, and waited for it because it was out of stock. I read reams of reviews here and on other sites. After buying it, I understood why there were so many reviews with so many points of view.

I had not bought a new coffeemaker in 20 years or so. I loved pour overs and my moka pot but I was home so much during lockdowns that I felt like I needed a coffeemaker. This one was quite expensive and hard to get.

It makes good coffee! It is more or less simple to use, once you get the hang of it. It does take up a lot of cubic space in my small kitchen–it’s quite tall. Basically, it just works. I was surprised when it needed descaling soon after purchase, and thought the OXO descaling fluid was quite pricey but since I invested so much in this machine, I opted to stick to the brand.

Criticisms: 1) if you forget to put the top on the carafe and set the timer, it will make coffee, which collects in the filter tank. If you are making a full carafe, I expect it would flood over on your counter.

I only make 2 cups at a time so (so far) I have not had disasters, but I can see how it could happen. And 2) the coffee in the carafe seems to cool off more quickly than I would have expected, perhaps because I only make 2 cups, so the carafe is full of cold air.

My kitchen is not a warm place on a winter morning, so this meant that if I used the timer and then overslept, I’d be greeted by a cold pot of coffee. Also, the filter holder does leak water onto the plate below but it is clear water, not coffee and hasn’t been a problem but I was surprised such an expensive machine would drip, forcing me to clean up after it.

I may go back to pourovers but this machine has made my life simpler and coffee is always close at hand, if I want it. I think it is a great machine, if a machine is what you need and want. I don’t know of a better one.

OXO Barista Brain 9-Cup Coffee Maker. I will start by saying that I am writing this review as a coffee professional that needed a solid brewer for our home. We are a coffee roaster that actively sells and services commercial coffee equipment.

I have become insistant that our home coffee equipment demostrate similar performance. Any SCA Certified brewer will get my attention primarily because they only certify brewers that heat water properly.

A 200 deg F brewing temperature is ideal for most coffees. After brewing a batch of ‘test’ water through the machine, the temperature in the carafe was 194 deg F. Accepting a few degrees loss as it made it’s way through the process, I was happy with that result.

Admittedly, I was initially scepitcal about a brand of product that was sold at major discount retailers. Using this brewer changed my mind. Pros: – Heats brew temperature water to near 200 deg F. – Uses common #4 cone filters.

I did not like the ‘natural’ brown filters that came with the machine out of the box. If you like your coffee to taste like cardboard, certainly continue to use brown ‘natural’ paper filters. If you prefer to taste all of the beautiful nuance of you coffee, use white, oxygenated filters.

Nearly all white coffee filters are made that way by using a 100% natural oxygenation process and you don’t have to live with paper bag flavored coffee. -Quiet operation during brewing cycle. Watching the water gurgle up the supply tube is cathartic.

Our cat really liked it at first, but has grown bored more recently. -Has a natural pulse brewing delivery as water is being heated. Assures that really fresh coffee doesn’t ‘bloom’ over. -Brew basket easily removes for cleaning.

-Brew spray head easily removes for cleaning. -Full stainless carafe. Comfortable handle. The lid for the carafe has a silicone tube that circulates coffee inside the carafe similar in concept to commercial thermal servers.

At first I didn’t think much of this feature, but I kind of like the idea of it. The brew cone and server do have a flow stop feature to remove the carafe mid brew cycle. Don’t ever use this! Let the full brew cycle finish before enjoying your coffee.

The first half of a brew cycle does not have the same flavor and the last half. To get a true representation of the coffee you’re drinking, the entire brew cycle needs to complete before pouring. -Has a timer to alert you to run a de-scaling cycle to keep the boiler clean.

-Good value. $200 is not cheap, but with the overall quality and performance of this brewer, it’s worth it. Features I more Neutral about: -Clock and timer feature. We don’t use the timer, but I can see how some would like that if you don’t mind pre-grinding and having you coffee wake you up in the morning.

-Single knob/toggle button is a clean build feature, but for some reason is kind of annoying to me for general operation and accessing features. -I don’t like that condensed water from the brew delivery tube, drips back down into the reservoir when you open the filter side lid.

Minor issue. Cons: -None really.

I expected so much more from Bonavita. I was originally looking at the 8-cup BV1900TS, but thought the 5-cup would work better as I most often only prepare coffee for myself. But this unit is no better than some generic discount, crappy coffeemaker.

I purchased the Bonavita specifically for its ability to get water to a precise and ideal brewing temperature, and pre-soak beans before brewing. But once brewed, the water temperature decreases steadily; one would think the Coffee Brewer would have a heating element which could evenly maintain coffee temperature.

Instead, if I slow down my drinking pace, I have to microwave or otherwise reheat now tepid coffee that’s sitting in the carafe. Further, the design of the carafe is bafflingly awful. The rim of the carafe, rather than facilitating easy pouring of all the brewed coffee, has a lip around the edge that actively prevents the last 1/4-1/2 cup of coffee from being poured out; the same thing happens with lingering water when you wash out the carafe.

I have to dry the inside of the carafe manually every time. It also doesn’t pour well; coffee leaks down the side of the carafe when pouring. What a complete waste of money!.

I don’t drink that much coffee—just 2 or 3 cups in the morning— but I want a good non-bitter, low acid brew. Grinding fresh Sumatra or equal quality beans gives me a low acid coffee; brewing it at around 200° for less than seven minutes with an efficient showerhead(and no hot plate) makes it robust but non-bitter.

The Bonavita essentially got that job done, but with annoying quirks and none of the features offered in like-priced competition. Quirks: Due to the design of the plastic collar on the stainless steel carafe, all the liquid CANNOT be emptied.

The brew basket of grounds sits in the carafe. It must be removed and the lid screwed on before pouring. The unit must be left plugged in to retain the “soaking” option when selected. Lack of features: No clock; no delayed brewing.

Pretty much an off-on switch. I am returning this unit, and probably will buy a Behmor Brazen Plus(adjusrable temperature control), a Zojirushi Fresh Brew Plus(24 hour timer delay and brew & pause) or a Bunn Velocity Brew(basic, no frills coffee maker), all comparably priced.

I quit drinking coffee over 20 years ago because of an irregular heartbeat. Eliminating caffeine solved the problem. I’m now a widower and for Christmas this year I decided to refresh my kitchen. I bought a lot of new small appliances and cookware, including a burr grinder, a kitchen scale, and this Bonavita 5-cup coffee maker.

America’s Test Kitchen gave the Bonavita 10-cup a good best buy review, so I bought the 5-cup and started drinking decaf. CNET’s review wasn’t very positive; they liked the 10-cup model but said the 5-cup made bitter coffee.

I don’t find that to be true. WLL shipped my coffee maker the next business day and it arrived here in California a week later. It was well packed and arrived in perfect condition. Thanks guys.

There’s no questioning the quality of this brewer. It shouts quality construction from the moment it’s pulled out of the box. Another way to describe it: It’s built like a tank. The quality of the coffee it brews is excellent.

One minor wish would be to have an automatic bloom pause feature like the Breville. This unit offers a manual option to achieve the same result, but it involves adjusting the basket aperture lever to the closed position while the unit is still brewing, This isn’t a big deal, and some may even question whether they notice any noticeable difference between blooming and and not blooming the grounds.

The only real issue I have with the unit is that the brew basket aperture lever doesn’t move smoothly as it shifts from 100% open, to 50% open, and then closed, and is difficult to adjust while the basket is on the machine.

But this is really only a minor criticism and not significant enough for me to give is less than 5 stars. The carafe is well insulated and like the rest of the unit, is exceptionally well designed and constructed.

It may not have all the bells and whistles of the Breville, but the coffee is brews, in my opinion, is just as good. I have no doubt that this brewer will be making great coffee long after I’ve departed for the great coffee shop in the sky.

Took a flyer on this as I was looking to upgrade the quality of my daily cup of morning drip coffee, and my existing coffee maker was always very good but not great and getting long in the tooth. I was gobsmacked by how immediate, obvious, and significance the improvement was with this Moccamaster brewer, literally from the first sip of the first cup I brewed with it.

My prior brewer was nothing special but was highly rated by Consumer Reports – a Michael Kors for Target unit that came in 2nd only to a Cuisinart unit – you know, the $100-$120 Cuisinart that changes model numbers from time to time but is always decently regarded.

I also did not change my coffee, my grinder, my water filtering, or the grind settings – everything remained the same except for the brewer. For its usual price of $300 I would still recommend it, but for me that’s pushing it.

For the Drop price of $200, though, it’s a fantastic value and a no-brainer. In the 2+ years since I got it, everyone who has stayed at our home or otherwise had occasion to have our coffee has commented, unsolicited, on how great it tastes.

This Moccamaster brewer is one of relatively few products I would recommend without hesitation.

This is my second Technivorm Moccamaster coffee maker I’ve owned. The last one (about ten years old or more) I donated to my relatives since they did not have a coffee maker. My prior Technivorm Moccamaster was the same model just in the all black color.

The main difference is now this version has an auto-shutoff and the stainless color. These coffeemakers are built to last and my relatives even said they can’t live without the one I provided for their daily coffee.

The coffee maker is simple, well built and makes very consistent coffee. The one thing they could do better is a stronger carafe. I’ve broken a couple over the years but my relative broke two within a month.

So if you aren’t the careful type consider ordering a backup carafe or get one of the versions with the metal carafe. I tried one of those previously but there are tradeoffs like needing to prepare the carafe to keep your coffee hot since you no longer have a heated plate when you have a metal carafe model.

I recently received the Keurig K-Duo from Influenster in my VoxBox to try at home. We currently own a two-way coffee maker (not k-cup compatible) from another manufacturer so the concept of single serve versus a pot is nothing new to us.

However, this review will take that out of consideration for now. Set-up was very easy and I had it running in a matter of a few minutes. It also came with a water filter for the reservoir which I assume will keep the system clean longer by minimizing calcification.

Per the instructions, you have to follow the following sequence to brew: Power on, select carafe or cup, select from sizes 8/10/12 ounces or cups, select “strong” for brew strength (optional), then press the brew button.

It seemed like a lot of steps at first but I have gotten the hang of it. The carafe is full-sized and holds up to twelve 8oz cups which is perfect for mornings where all three of us can have our coffee.

I read many negative reviews regarding the carafe not pouring properly but we have not experienced this fortunately so perhaps it has been remedied. In my office, there was an unending pot of coffee available so I could always quickly grab that afternoon cup.

Now that I work remotely, if I want one I have to make it myself which is where the single cup feature is much appreciated! Plus I can switch out to different brands or strength. Compared to the system we currently have, I prefer the Keurig for many reasons.

The K-Duo features one water reservoir for both cup and carafe whereas with the other one, you have to pour the water in each time and into different areas on top of the system. The reservoir for the pot only holds enough for a full pot and the single cup option will brew the volume you put in.

To make a single cup, I’d usually fill my mug with water then pour it into the appropriate spot. It was a much smaller opening for a single cup and I’d always spill water on the counter. I was usually guessing how much coffee to use as I have a variety of coffee mugs in different sizes so the strength was inconsistent.

If the drip tray is removed, you can fit up to an 8” tall travel mug which is convenient but you will have to run a couple brew cycles to fill it up. The K-Duo also has an alert on the display when the water is low and will not let you proceed unless you fill up.

The coffee tastes very fresh and I like the option of having a stronger brew without having to use more coffee grounds. With a regular drip coffee pot, I’d have to either wait for an entire pot to brew or pour a cup before it had finished which was always too strong.

The single cup option on the K-Duo is easy as there is no measuring and the pods allow me to switch out flavors and brands without having multiple bags and/or cans piled up in my cupboard. I am getting ready to restock on pods and was happy to see the variety that was available including tea, hot chocolate, cappuccino and cider.

The K-Duo did not come with any coffee filters and we didn’t have any on hand as we have always use a reusable filter basket. Fortunately, the one from the other system fit. Included were two 12 oz. bags of ground coffee and two 24pk boxes of pods so we were able to enjoy the coffee right away.

We will be moving the other system to the basement for now and continue using the K-Duo as it is more efficient and easier to use than our other system and offers a large variety of hot drink options that simply isn’t available with a standard drip coffee system.

Upon opening the box, I got a pleasant surprise– 2 boxes of K-Cups (Green Mountain The Donut Shop) a pound of ground coffee!(Green Mountain) Looking inside the box, this is a nice tight compact machine, it looks like it’ll fit into the space I’ve got on the counter- very much the same height as my old Keurig K-40 single-cup machine, just a little wider.

Putting the machine together and washing the pieces, I was a little disappointed that a higher-end machine like this did not include a reusable filter basket. I’ll have to buy some paper filters at the grocery store before I can brew a pot using grounds.

Following the instructions in the included booklet, I set the clock, rinsed out the water reservoir and the pot and started the procedure to do a cleansing rinse of the pot. The instruction book mentions that it may take 4 minutes to heat up the first time to run the pot of hot water, so I set it up and walked away from it to do other things.

I checked back about an hour later and the white light was still blinking but there was no water had brewed. I unplugged the machine and reset the clock and started it again to try and brew a pot of just water.

It is brewing water this time, but there seemed to be some kind of a strange delay. Perhaps there was an air bubble in a water line somewhere? The water volume in this first test using the eight-cup setting and brewed almost 9 cups of water? Is that because I had to restart it? I’m going to run another test brew through it and see what happens.

The test brew number 4 on the pod side seemed to work just fine. The second test pot still ran almost 9 cups. Perhaps they’re accounting for the amount of water the coffee grounds will absorb? Having got everything set up, it’s a cinch to press the on button and have it heat up the water to make a quick pod for a cup of coffee in just moments.

After my next trip to the grocery store to buy paper filters, I set up a pot of coffee to brew. Took about 7 minutes to brew an 8-cup batch of coffee, and the water levels on the pot seem to be correct, so it looks like they were accounting for the water that stays in the coffee grounds.

When using the single-serve pod side of the coffee maker, I like that there is multiple setting for how many ounces you want in your cup, plus a ‘strong’ button if you’re in a mood for an extra-strong cup.

When making a cup with the pods, when you power on the machine it heats up quickly, and you’re brewing your hot cup of coffee in less than a minute. After using this for a couple of weeks, I must say that I do indeed like it and recommend it to anyone that needs a double-duty machine for pods or a full pot.

The included coffee were good, not great, but a welcomed surprise. I like my coffee on the stronger side I found that all three of these coffees were a bit pedestrian for my coffee tastebuds.

I received a Keurig® K-Duo® Special Edition Brewer at no charge in exchange for my candid review of the product. Well, I have to say it was a bit of a surprise when the box containing the brewer and some coffee, k-cups and ground, showed up on my doorstep.

Having been a coffee aficionado for my entire adult life, don’t ask how many years, I was excited to try out the Keurig machine! I have, in the past, attempted to find the right brewer for our house in terms of brewing a great tasting cup of coffee, but also in providing the flexibility to use k-cups AND a large carafe for when we entertain.

The machine that I had when the Keurig arrived, a Hamilton Beach dual mode machine with both carafe and k-cup abilities, was what I had settled on about 5 years ago and it was ok, not great. It required water to be added every time a k-cup or carafe was brewed.

Not a huge deal, but really inconvenient. Anyway, my experience with the Hamilton Beach machine provided a great set of experiences with which to compare. At the end of the day, there really is no comparison between the Keurig and the Hamilton Beach unit.

The Keurig brewed a better tasting k-cup AND better tasting carafes of coffee. And it was not just a subtle difference, but a very noticeable improvement in depth of flavor and smoothness of taste. Also, the convenience of having a large reservoir built in means that I no longer have to add water every time I want a cup! Heaven!!! The Keurig is stylish and goes with my kitchen, not overly large so my counter is not cramped, easy to fill and operate, offers 4 different choices of cup sizes (6, 8, 10, and 12 ounce) and the ability to brew a “STRONG” cup when using a k-cup.

I absolutely love it and recommend the Keurig K-Duo whole heartedly. / The only thing I might add is it is entirely possible that you, like me, will end up drinking more coffee because it tastes so much better and is soooo much easier and more convenient!.

The 60 oz. carafe is to big for the No. 4 filter, four pour overs gives half a carafe, it would work better with a No. 6 filter cone. A rim around the inside where the plastic meets the stainless makes it hard to drain and dry.

This product broke first use…the handle separated from the base. I believe this particular unit was defective. I have another one purchased from a different retailer and I absolutely love it. So I can’t determine if it’s the product being defective or an issue with the seller.

Very convenient for making coffee this way. Love the ease of cleaning the carafe. Also, you can make as much or less coffee as you wish without too many parts to clean at the end.
