Carbohydrates are one of the three macronutrients (along with protein and fat) and are the body’s primary source of energy. During exercise, carbs are broken down into glucose and used by the muscles for fuel.
For runners, carbs are an important part of their diet as they help to maintain energy levels and performance.
There are two types of carbs – simple and complex. Simple carbs are made up of single sugar molecules and are found in foods like candy, cookies, and cake. Complex carbs are made up of multiple sugar molecules and are found in foods like grains, pasta, and rice.
Both simple and complex carbs are important for runners, but complex carbs are particularly important as they provide a slow and steady release of energy. This is important for runners as it helps to avoid the energy crashes that can occur when simple carbs are used for fuel.
Complex carbs can be found in a variety of foods, including:
Runners should aim to include complex carbs at every meal and snack, especially on days when they are training. By including complex carbs in their diet, runners can help to ensure that they have the energy they need to perform at their best.
Nutrabio Super Carb is a carbohydrate supplement that will rapidly fuel performance, replenish glycogen stores and replace electrolytes from tough workouts. Super Carb comes in this great tasting raspberry lemonade flavor and contains no fillers, maltodextrin or additives.
NutraBio SuperCarb is an innovative product designed to fuel performance through the use of the patented carbohydrate Cluster Dextrin. Unlike typical carbs such as dextrose or fructose, Cluster Dextrin is a low glycemic, highly branched cyclic dextrin (HBCD) with a high molecular weight and ultra-low osmolality.
These properties of HBCD make it highly soluble and promote fast gastric emptying, virtually eliminating the gastric distress often associated with less advanced carbohydrates. Cluster Dextrin also maintains a slow release, offering the ideal interaction between carbohydrate breakdown and the normal release of free fatty acids.
The result is a superior carbohydrate that delivers smooth, constant energy and replenishes muscle glycogen stores without spiking blood sugar levels. Due to the unique energy demands of strength and endurance-based sports, athletes who participate in these activities have different carbohydrate requirements for fueling optimal performance.
Aerobic endurance athletes and those who train for 60 minutes or more a day (think runners, cyclists, MMA fighters) should strive to consume 8–10 grams of carbohydrate per kilogram of body weight daily to replenish glycogen levels.
On the other hand, athletes who do not train aerobically for more than an hour each day (weight training, sprinting, football) should strive for 5–6 grams of carbohydrate per kilogram body weight daily.
Supercarb Directions: Based on your performance needs, mix 1 to 2 scoops of SuperCarb into 12-16 oz. of water. Shake well for 30-45 seconds. Consume before, during, or after intense exercise as needed for added energy.
Increase your dosage if engaging in prolonged exertion for 2 hours or more.
NutraBio sent over a 60 serving tub of Pineapple Super Carb, which is their high-branched cyclic dextrin product!_x000d_ The Super Carb formula from NutraBio is simple, straightforward but excellent: 25 grams highly-branched cyclic dextrin, 525 mg Calcium Potassium Phosphate Citrate, 157 mg sodium phosphate, and 140 mg Di-magnesium malate.
The 25 grams of HBCD is a great dose for pre or intra workouts carb. It is also reasonable enough for double-scooping for extra long and grueling workouts. Price is reasonable at $1 per serving for the 60 serving tub.
_x000d_ _x000d_ I have really learned the value of carb intake before and during exercise. It really is a way to stave off fatigue and optimize performance. Super Carb does a great job at it too. I workout harder and longer when using Super Carb.
Plus, I have better muscle pumps with Super Carb. The two scoop serving has you feeling excellent especially paired with their pre-workout, NutraBio PRE. This is definitely a product I think any type of athlete should check out.
The HBCD is a superior carb source compared to most other carb-based sports/lifting products. _x000d_ _x000d_ The Super Carb pineapple flavor is very good! It is a sweet, mild pineapple flavor that is almost entirely without any acidity – at least when used with 14 oz or more of water.
It is a very satisfying flavor that I think most would really enjoy!_x000d_ _x000d_ Formula – 10_x000d_ Effects – 10_x000d_ Taste – 10_x000d_ _x000d_ Total – 10.
I received a 60 serving tub of the unflavored version of this Cyclic Dextrin supplement and after adding 1 serving to my pre-workout and an additional serving to my intra-workout beverage which consisted of bcaa’s for a little over 2 weeks know I figured it’s time to give feedback on this supplement.
This is suppose to be a performance and recovery supplement and I can honestly say after running this the way I mentioned it definitely works great in the way it was designed to work. The powder mixes flawlessly with no taste so it doesn’t effect the flavor of anything you mix it with and it hit’s your stomach so lightly with no stomach distress so it is ideal to sip on combined with your intra while you train.
I train on an empty stomach so the carbs in this powder work differently from the stimulants in pre’s where the energy you get from this powder is more of an endurance that helps keep you going through your workout and I noticed by also having it combined with my intra I was able to last longer to do more work in the gym and I noticed my overall recovery was definitely accelerated.
I was coming back from an injury where I hadn’t trained in about 8-10 weeks so I should have felt muscle soreness but honestly I felt none while utilizing this Cyclic Dextrin both pre and intra for each and every weight training workout I’ve had in a little more than two weeks.
Overall I definitely recommend giving this Super Carb a try especially in the unflavored version because it blends well with any flavored supplement. I feel this is a supplement more for an advanced weight trainer who tends to have longer workouts in the gym and wants something that will give them more endurance and recovery without causing any stomach issues that other carb sources might create.
A little too sweet for my taste, but maybe it’s a matter of habit for taste. I put a little less than a scoop in 0. 5 gallons of water and still felt really sweet. During the training the muscles did hurt (this is how you should train anyway), but the muscles did not feel exhausted or tired, so there seems to be a good effect of the product.

ELECTROLYTES Maintain water balance and aid in optimum hydration. CARBOHYDRATES Deliver ready-to-use energy and delay bonking by sparing glycogen. AMINO ACIDS Reduce mental fatigue and decrease muscle damage.
CAFFEINE Enhances performance by increasing focus and concentration and decreasing perceived effort during exercise. Consume one packet 5 minutes before, and one packet every 45 minutes during activity.
Wash down with your favorite GU Hydration Drink or water for optimum absorption.
How to Gu Properly: Training: Eat one Gu 15 minutes before and then one Gu every 30 to 45 minutes during training. Racing: Eat one Gu 45 minutes before the start, one Gu 15 minutes before the start and then one Gu every 30 to 45 minutes during the race. Always wash down Gu with a few gulps of Gu2O Sports Drink or water. And, as a guideline, drink 20 – 30 ounces of fluid per hour throughout training and racing.
Sometimes you need energy, but don’t want food. I have a friend who is trying to get into shape and gets exhausted on hikes, but can’t handle food and these have been exactly what they need. Here is my opinion on a few flavors: Birthday Cake- It’s birthday cake.
It delicious and by the second or third taste you realize it’s way too sweet. but you keep eating it lol. It’s birthday cake. Cola- Its flat Cola. Ever had some leftover coke in a bottle you left capped and hoped it still had gas when you went for a drink only to be disappointed that it was flat and just tossed it out? This is that.
Caramel Macchiato- ever had the iced coffee from a place like 7-eleven? Its kind of chemically and you understand what they were going for but its not that. This is that. Maybe you like it. I do not.
Chocolate Outrage- Chocolate, not too sweet, but just a tad chemically. Not as bad as Caramel Macchiato, but not my favorite. Espresso Love- Tastes like fudgy pudding. Its delicious and I can’t get enough.
Vanilla Bean- Sweet, not as sweet as birthday cake, no chemical taste. Very good option.
If I’m heading out for a long run I am absolutely grabbing one of these energy gels! I have tried so many things to keep my energy up during a long run and this is my favorite. You can definitely feel a difference after you take one.
So they are supposed to last 45 minutes and kick in about 5 minutes after you take it. I find that this does vary a little bit and it just depends on how much you’ve had to eat that morning and how much energy you’re putting into your run or other activity because I do use these for other things.
If I know I’m going to have a hard workout I will use one of these. And to be completely honest I have even used these if I’m having a really rough day and just have zero energy. They make several varieties that don’t have any caffeine in them because I don’t normally consume caffeine but I prefer one with a little bit of caffeine when I’m running.
I am a big fan of “on the bike” nutrition products and hav used GU (and proper hydration) for many years to reduce/eliminate muscle cramping on during the longest and toughest rides. GU “Cola me happy” is a good flavor.
It does not really taste like a soda but more like a cola bean. That said – it is not bad just different from initial expectation. It is pleasant and I have purchased more for the grab bag. Just wish it had a stay-on tear off tab to reduce litter.
Just remember to stay hydrated, recharge before you need to, and never ever litter (if you drop something – turn around and get it) and try all the different GUs.
Naturally flavored energy-fueling gel in small easy-open packets. 20g of carbs 100mg of sodium totaling 80 calories provide balanced nutrition to fuel endurance activity. Consume with water pre- andor mid-activity.
I bought these for my sons to use at football practice. They said the taste is just a tiny bit bitter but it tastes fine and they feel it helps with their performance. They do however, prefer the square chews only because of the method of delivery – gummy vs.
gel. Overall still a good product that I would purchase again.
Wild Berry flavored, GlycoJect’s nutrient-driving, hyper-loading formula was designed to support nutrient absorption into muscle cells, supercharging muscle size and pump, and fuelling greater growth and recovery.
By engorging muscle cells with carbohydrates, water and growth-enhancing nutrients, GlycoJect boosts recovery and replenishment, while supporting increased cellular volume and hydration, for maximum muscle roundness, fullness and pump.
GlycoJect’s customized carb component has been shown to absorb up to 80% faster than dextrose, maltodextrin, waxy maize or other “fast-absorbing” carbohydrate sources—even faster than plain old pasta, rice or breads.
The rapid transport of this unique polysaccharide acts like a pump, driving water, carbs and nutrients into the muscles. To facilitate this glycogen and nutrient “injection” effect, GlycoJect’s Hyper-Volumizing Rapid Absorption Proprietary Complex harnesses the natural power of this customized carb combined with nitric oxide and insulinogenics to accelerate the uptake of nutrients into muscles.
All Bodybuilders – Off-season bulking or trying to build up lagging body parts (men and women); Carbing up for your show. Endurance Athletes – CrossFit, MMA, Jiu-Jitsu, Triathletes, Cyclists, Marathon runners, Wrestlers, etc.
GlycoJect has seen a huge spike in interest in a very short amount of time without direct marketing to these sports.
I been using Glicoject for over one year, the quality of this product is insane. Usually I take as pre-workout, and recovery drink, it taste delicious, there is a variety on flavors, normally I order berry or watermelon, I been getting amazing results, provides Energy since the carbohydrates contained are easily digest.
I can rely on Evogen if I’m running out to order new products that normally arrive to my door within 3 working days. Free of caffeine. If you want to take your physique to the next level this is the supplement to take, order a few bottles to take advantage of free shipping.
Once arrives all you need to do is add to an 8 ounces of water or juice on a blender bottle and mix well.
I am completely obsessed with glycoject. I am a 5am gym goer and do not like to have proper pre-lift meal that early. I drink this during my workout and my strength and endurance have improved significantly.
I am on my 3rd tub of glycoject in the Cherry flavor. I enjoy it so much that I have not tried the other flavors yet. This, combined with Amino KEM have given me crazy pumps to the point that people at the gym told me they could see the difference and asked me what I was doing.
If you feel depleted and need an easy carb source for the gym, this is a great option.
This stuff is high quality. I use it about half way in my work out and post work out and it makes sure I keep my insane pump from the evp and gives me that instant nutrients delivery and I guarantee you will recover faster with this and one of the EVP’s.
And sip on Amino KEM the whole time you work out and you will be able to push harder than ever. Recover faster. And you will have this photo shop 3d looking pump for hours even after the work out so when you eat your post work out meal and shake the nutrients go straight to the muscles.
You will grow like never ducking before lol it’s amazing. This stuff has made my muscles grow and become harder than I ever thought possible. This is the best and only REAL supplements company on the market.
Everything does what it says. He truly made this stuff to make people reach the next level. and I am a nobody trying to get my pro card. I am not sponsored by anyone and I am going to rep this company till the day I die.

I’ve tried the majority of gels The Feed sells, and this is by far my favorite. The consistency is thinner than a GU, and the texture is extremely silky, so it slides right down. Absolutely not sugary/cloying aftertaste whatsoever, which is my biggest hang up with gels.
The last thing I want to do is squander my water trying to wash the sticky taste out of my mouth. I’ve tried the lemon lime and orange flavors, and they’re both very subtle and not at all overpowering.
Having used almost every energy gel product out there, I was anxious to try SiS Energy Gel over the course of a few 2 hour + training rides that I was putting in for some upcoming endurance events (I always try new products in training settings before trusting them enough for a race).
I found the taste of the lemon & lime to be neither lemon nor lime, sort of a bland citrus like flavor, which wasn’t horrible, it just didn’t wow me. To be fair, most energy gels don’t taste all that great anyway.
The consistency is true to how they describe it, more of a liquid rather than a gel, so it actually empties out of the sachet rather than having to squeeze it out, like with other brands. This makes it a little easier to actually get in the mouth rather than all over your hands (and gloves, and shift levers, etc).
The main thing I do not like is the low calorie count, about 80 calories per sachet. For a 3 or 4 hour event, I would need to stuff my pockets with these if I were going to rely on them as my main energy source.
I am looking forward to trying some of the other flavors, especially the ones that have caffeine.
As a group fitness instructor, I rely heavily on energy supplements. I teach on average 2-3 1 hour classes back to back of intense cardio or weight classes. I recently tried these energy gels and found them to definitely give me that extra boost that I would need before walking into the next class.
I only scored it 4 out of 5 because of the amount needed to consume. Unlike other products, these servings are rather large. It is quite hard to swallow, but following it with water it is very easy to digest.
Unlike other products, these energy gels are not as gooey, more a thick consistency. Flavors are ok, next time I purchase I would just select one flavor. I really liked the orange taste.
The SiS GO Isotonic Gel was the world’s first isotonic gel effectively delivering an easily digestible and quick supply of carbohydrate for energy during exercise. Age Group: adult.
First of all, I absolutely hate gu’s. I hate the texture, and can’t stand chewing and trying to swallow them during my long runs. Then I was introduced to SIS’s isotonic gels. GAME CHANGER! The texture is like melted jello.
So easy to take down before or during a long run. And no water is needed! I particularly love the lemon mint flavor because there are extra electrolytes. Plus it tastes like Sprite! The flavor is very neutral and not overpowering like other types of fuel I’ve tried.
It gave me the fuel I needed and it didn’t give me any nausea or indigestion. I also really love the flavors with caffeine which gave me that extra boost during my longest runs.
It is a good idea to train with the same gels you’ll be using during an actual race or event. Both the Rock and Roll marathon series and the Seattle Marathon use SIS gels for the on course aid stations.
If you are participating in an event with on course support, check the event web page. These isotonic gels are premixed with water; this makes them easy to ingest quickly but also makes them heavier and bulkier than, for example, GU gels.
SIS gels will now be part of my running training, both because they go down easily and because they are offered on course at future events.

wouldn’t use anything else. Due to so many races being canceled, I actually took up pickleball. My friend asked to play with her and I thought it was a joke. I decided to play my first match (or whatever they’re called) with my neighborhood group.
I bought this pack because it was a best seller. Since I completed the match and felt great, I feel like these helped me. I tried all of the flavors included and here is how I would rank them: 1/2. Vanilla Bean/Chocolate Outrage (It’s a toss-up.
Both taste like pudding or CAKE !) 3. Salted Caramel 4. Tri-Berry 5. Strawberry Banana.
It is designed to help maintain blood glucose levels, delay physical and mental fatigue, prevent muscle damage and aids in recovery. Help maximize carbohydrate absorption and utilization while diminishing stomach distress.
Consume one packet 5 minutes before and one packet every 45 minutes during activity.

Natural flavor. Quick energy for sports performance. Carbs. Electrolytes. Vitamins B&C. Colors from natural sources. Scientifically formulated to maximize sports performance. Carbohydrates to fuel your body during intense activity.
Electrolytes (Sodium and potassium) vital for maintaining fluid balance. Vitamins B1, B2 & B3 to help burn carbohydrates and fat. Vitamin C to protect muscles and cells against oxidative damage.
I was on a hike and feeling quite worn out. I ate a package of the Extreme Sport Beans and was surprised at how much better I felt and how my energy level increased. My wife didn’t believe me, but chose to also try a package and she also noticed the increased energy.
I sent my son some, because he is in the Army. He said they are great to take when they go on long marches, so I just ordered him a case to help him out. I would prefer these in an orange or grape flavor, but I am still very pleased with them.
So the description did not actually say what flavor these would be, but one bullet described assorted and one described extreme assorted. Below the description in the “you might also like” was a picture of Extreme.
So I assumed these were regular Assorted. Nope. 24 packs of Berry, which is absolutely my least favorite. Yuk. Buyer beware I guess. I have purchased the assorted and the cherry before and loved them.
Super easy to open the pack and eat on the run, don’t melt in the heat or get too hard to chew in the cold. I just don’t want all Berry.
This is a good energy supplement! Ive used Gu and other jell products but this one has allowed me to continue hard workouts, throughout a very hot and humid summer, with no sign of a bonk or cramping, at any timed.
Thr flavors snd consistency suit my tastes to a tee, and Ive suffered no digestive problems, in all the time Ive been using them. Im seventy seven years old and dont like overdoing supplements because Ive suffered severe consequences from falling for some fads, in the past.
Ive used Jelly Bellys all summer, and am completely happy with them. Thanks and keep doing what youre doing! Corky.
Keep your glycogen stores stoked and your muscles firing happily. The proven combination of glucose and fructose is the most easily and rapidly absorbed form of carbohydrate. And, a high electrolyte content is just what your legs crave to fire properly, while 35 mg of caffeine stokes your central nervous system, increasing the release of free fatty acids into your bloodstream and further sparing your limited glycogen stores.
Branched-chain amino acids and ornithine speed recovery and reduce muscle damage, histidine buffers against acidic byproduct and of course the delicious flavors go down easy.
I’ve been using GU Roctane gels since they first came out around 2009. Over the years my standby flavor has moved from Vanilla Orange, to Cherry Lime, to Strawberry Kiwi, which I’ve now been regularly using for races and long runs since the flavor debuted.
Everyone has their own preference for this type of product. Some like gels with thinner consistency, some with thicker consistency. Some like sweeter products and caffeine, some with less or none of that.
But for me GU Roctane gels are what I love. Another part of all GU gels that I appreciate, is the size and shape of the packaging. The more narrow size makes it easier to hold in your hand while you run, almost like how your hand grips something like a pole.
This makes it much easier to manage while running, when your grip might not be quite as firm.
As a cyclist, I highly recommend thes gel packets. I discovered these gel packets about nine years ago and always carry them in my back jersey pocket regardless of the distance Im traveling. When I find myself losing energy or waning, I take a packet with a small amount of water and in 10-15 minutes Im ready to surge ahead.
These roctane gels provide a great energy boost. I call it my “ready roc”! When cycling or any strenuous activity you particpste in, I wouldnt be caught without it.
These gels seem to help with my diabetic issues by not overwhelming me with sugar. Easy to consume and digest. My doctor recommended I take one before I start ride maintain adequate sugar levels. Haven’t had any dramatic drops.
Before I started taking gels I had two big drops on rides and it’s scary.
Energy chews are a great alternative to gels because they digest a little more slowly, meaning fewer upset stomachs and a more sustained release of carbohydrates to keep you moving. Plus the texture of these chewy sport block from Scratch Labs beat out gels any day, and the bite sized pieces let you easily calibrate your carb intake.
Each packet contains 2 servings of 70 calories each with 18g grams of carbs.
I love these chews the matcha green tea & lemon are absolutely delicious I feel it tasted more like tamarind but maybe I’m crazy (I am). I love I can get 2 or 3 servings per pack. They go down easy and don’t give a sticky after effect also didn’t need drink to wash it down.
One negative is I had difficulty opening it up. On the precut I gave a pull and it tore just the corner leaving it unopened forcing me to take two more bites at the wrapper 3rd time was the charm but at that point it had taken me 1 minute to fight it open.
This left it with a big hole in the pouch I then had to be extra careful when I ate them as I dropped 2 chews (5 second rule). Delivery can possibly be improved. Definitely left me feeling great during and after the ride all in all for my first experience.
I just spent 4-days in the Adirondacks hiking and rafting. 10-12 miles a day hiking, some bushwhacking, and 15 miles of rafting down the Hudson River. Along with plenty of water, and a healthy lunch I counted on three other things in my day pack: sport energy chews (raspberry and matcha green tea & lemon), anytime energy bars (chocolate chips and almonds), and exercise hydration mix (pineapple).
I had (2) 32 oz bottles, one with just water and the other with hydration mix. My energy never wavered, I always had a quick pick-me-up on the ascents, and I never felt like I was dehydrated from the efforts of the day.
Oh, I almost forgot, I had “four” things. at the end of the cay in camp, I enjoyed the sport recovery drink mix (chocolate) in another 16-oz of water. No need to search out a chocolate milk drink, this hits the spot.
A great dinner, good nights sleep, and I was ready for the next day’s adventure! I discovered Skratch Labs while cycling – but now I take them everywhere! Thanks guys! You rawk!.
Orange, raspberry and green tea must be code names for the color of the chews. None of the ones I’ve tried have any flavor! While I use an energy supplement when I ride. Using a single energy gel is a lot more convenient than digging 3 chews out the bag.

I am regular Guy for MB products. Since last 4 years I am in fitness field I used lot of mass gainers, pre, post workout products also. Now you can forget ab2 mass gainers. This is the best product to load carbs no FAT at all.
Mass gainer VS Carbs blend: Mass gainer will give muscle mass as well as FAT also. That entire FAT will be stored in single place i. e tummy. If want to do Six pack then mass gainer cant help it will give you only muscle mass.

Energy Gel is smooth with a light consistency. It’s not as thick or sweet as other gels on the market so it’s easy to get down and with natural fruit juice, it tastes great too. Easy to open and swallow, each sachet delivers 23g of carbohydrate energy.
EnergyGel is award-winning and proven in many of the World’s toughest competitions. An energy gel is a convenient instant energy boost during exercise. You simply open the top and take it straight from the sachet.
These are definitely my favorite gels. They taste delicious and are more like concentrated fruit juice than energy gel. They do very occasionally upset my stomach but only when it’s empty and no more than other gels.
The flavours are all amazing apart from the banana, but I just don’t like anything banana flavour!.
HIGH5 Energy Gel is a powerful fruity energy gel, providing you with quick energy on the go. HIGH5 Energy Gel delivers 23g of carbohydrate straight to your muscles during exercise, like running or cycling.
HIGH5 Energy Gel is made from natural fruit juice. This gives it a particularly smooth consistency for a light and refreshing taste. HIGH5 Energy Gel comes in a travel-convenient 20 sachet box. HIGH5 Energy Gel is free from artificial sweeteners and colourings.
Top quality gels, supplied with plenty of shelf life. Marginally more expensive per box than some other bike retailers, however, these come in mixed flavours, and with a generous supply of those all important caffeine gels.
Therefore better in substance, and better value overall.
I normally stick to the berry flavoured High5 gels but it’s nice to buy a mixed set as you can get to try the varied flavours. A mixed gel set worked out cheaper than a single flavour boxed set too and adds a touch of variation to the bike rides.
Great price and fast delivery from Demon Tweeks too.
Developed for use during intense exercise, during cooler weather, or when drinking regularly may be difficult, OTE’s Super Carbs Energy Drink delivers 80 grams of carbs per 500ml, plus electrolytes, to the intestines so you can perform at your peak for longer.
Naturally flavoured and containing nothing nasty, you’ll be able to get just the energy boost you need and stay hydrated. It’s supplied here in a bulk 850 grams that provides ten servings.
I was sceptical about this product, why not just double up on regular mix? Really happy to find that it was more digestible with no GI issues. I’ll save for longer days and intense sessions.
There are many different types of carbohydrates, and each one has a different effect on the body. Some carbs are simple and quick to digest, while others are complex and take longer to break down.
The type of carbohydrate you choose to eat before a run can make a big difference in your energy levels and how you feel during and after the run.
Simple carbs, like those found in candy and soda, can give you a quick boost of energy, but they can also cause a sugar crash a few hours later. Complex carbs, like those found in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, take longer to digest and provide a more sustained source of energy.
If you’re looking for a quick source of energy before a run, a simple carb like a candy bar or a sports drink may do the trick. But if you’re looking for sustained energy throughout your run, a complex carb like a banana or a bowl of oatmeal is a better choice.
