Amazing machine! I just had another home use carpet cleaner start to go out on me and with no replaceable parts my only option was to buy a new one. I don’t like not being able to repair frequent wear and tear items like belts, brushes etc.

So I investigated the rug doctor and the big green assuming they might be worth the investment. The design of this machine is far superior to that of the rug doctor. There are rows and rows of bristles on the brush roller.

It cleans in both directions of travel. The suction head is spring loaded and keeps itself firmly pressed against the carpet while cleaning. All replacement parts are readily available and affordable from many suppliers online.

The machine is designed so that someone with very basic mechanical skills could service this machine. These features alone sold me on this machine but then I got to actually clean my carpets with it.

Wow wow wow!!! I worked slowly to let it do it’s job and I was extremely impressed with the results. A few overlapping passes left my carpets looking like new again and they dried much faster than I have experienced with other machines.

Basically this machine is worth every penny and I fully expect it to last many many years. $400 is a lot of money folks but I can promise you it’s a good investment. If you can’t afford the machine then do yourself a favor and rent one for about $30 from Lowes or other retailers.

It’s great to have beautiful looking carpets and a clean place for me and my kids to play!.

I bought this unit on the recommendation of a good friend and am so glad that I listened to her! One of the well-known carpet cleaning companies would not clean my nearly room-size area rugs unless I moved them outside.

AND, they charged a hefty price per square foot. Purchasing this unit was a very cost-effective alternative. I don’t like leaving soap residue of any type on the carpet fibers, as soap attracts dirt.

So, the first use was to rinse an installed carpet that had been professionally cleaned only 2 weeks prior – and the waste water was gray! I was blown away. The Bissell’s extraction is powerful enough to remove the deeply embedded pet hair that remains after thorough vacuuming (just like the professional extractors).

The residual moisture content in the carpet is equivalent to professional cleaning. All in all, I am super impressed and beyond pleased with this purchase. As a bonus, I found that I can even use it to clean the several floor mats purchased from a big box store.

I used to drag them outside, hose them down, scrub them, hose them down to rinse them, and hang them over the deck rail to dry. No more!.

I first started cleaning carpets professionally back in 1977, and since thatime I have used a LOT of carpet cleaning devices. That said, I needed a small, portable cleaning unit for cleaning the stairs in our new house.

I tried another brand (won’t say who but it was green) because it was on sale, and the vacuum extracted NO water from the carpet! Horrible suction! I took it back and since I recently used a Rug Doctor at work that has incredible suction, bought this one and I LOVE IT! Refilling the clean water tank is not that big of a deal, but being to completely empty and rinse out the dirty water tank is a strong point as I don’t want dirty water clinging to the inside of my tanks! The power cord is long enough that I can clean the entire staircase top to bottom without having to disconnect from the outlet! If I had any annoyance it is that the brush pad is a bit agressive and really doesn’t allow much for back-and-forth motion of the wand across the carpet, but all in all it does all that I would expect it to! Highly recommend for stairs, automotive, and yes, pets!.

Bought this product to help with pet messes and spills. Machine worked great at first when I purchased it then after a while it lost suction. I returned it three times while under warranty. It would work for a while then lose suction again.

I asked for a refund and they refused since my 90 days was over. I wanted to get it serviced and they would never give me the address for repair they kept saying find a local repair shop. The closest one is over 50 miles away from my house.

I will not buy another rug dr product I will get a bissel animal pet cleaner.

Like: nozzle design allows me to easily apply pressure, which is necessary to vacuum water deep down. Also, it’s all one piece; my previous machine had removable piece which leaked suction and was the first thing to break.

Also, short hose length helps provide greater suction. Machine is light weight and stable enough to position close to what I am cleaning. Also, suction head does a good job at carpet/ wall edges, and “pet tool” scrubber is more effective than bristles.

Dislike: soap trigger oversprays a bit wildly, poorly designed. Overall I like it enough to keep it but I think it is overpriced for what it does. Elbow grease not included.

I have twin boy toddlers and let me just say there is no possible way I can go without a carpet cleaner. Since my boys were born I went from cleaning my carpet a few times a year to a few times a week.

I’ve literally had just about every carpet cleaner on the market. I know what I want in a carpet cleaner and either they didn’t meet my expectations or they couldn’t handle the abuse. My Hoover smartwash pet is by far the best I’ve had.

The suction this cleaner has is unbelievable. I’ve read some reviews about it losing suction before I bought it and the only thing I can think of is maybe they’re not putting the lid of the dirty tank on correctly.

They’ve made it easy to clean the brushes. My carpet dries very quickly and the dirt that comes out of it is amazing! It cleans better than the others I’ve had, but I still carry my little hand held scrubber brush to get the ground up stuck to the carpet messes my toddlers are notorious of leaving behind.

However I cont think there’s a carpet cleaner out there that can handle that. What this does have is the neat pre treating wand that I can use on the mess before I scrub it, which is awesome! I’ve owned it for a few months now and I can honestly say I’m so happy I found this carpet cleaner.

It’s well worth the money! I love it!.

So far I’ve used this on two carpets. Our garage (very tight low profile and thin) carpet and our bedroom ( on a very dens plush pile carpet with 1/2″ pile). Both carpets were extremely dirty (hadn’t been cleaned in years).

Both carpets came out looking almost brand new. I’m beside the fact that I didn’t get pictures, but trust me, this thing works great! Oh, and even if you already had the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe, you’ve got to upgrade! The Power Scrub Deluxe works great, but wait till you get your hands on this baby! There are some things that I don’t like about this new cleaner and I will list them here, but this is just so hopefully someone in engineering is listening and can make changes to the next unit: – Carry handle: So unbalanced! Why did you move it from the front of the unit!? If I pick up the unit just from the carry handle, it tips over.

Especially with water tank full. – If going really slow forward, sometimes the unit things I’ve stopped and goes into the dry mode and stops spraying solution. I was going pretty darn slow though so not sure if this can be fixed without a manual override.

– Water splashes out of the side (mostly on the left side) past the reach of the vacuum. Enough to leave a long streak the length I’ve pushed forward. Since it’s mostly on the left, I’ve decided to work my way from left to right to be sure and vacuum up that excess water.

Maybe a shield is needed to prevent this. -As with my last unit. getting right against walls on wall to wall carpets is impossible. Luckily those are less traveled areas, but unfortunately since this thing cleans so well, there is a noticeable difference between what is scrubbed and what is not.

But WOW! this thing cleans well! I don’t think even the professional cleanings we’ve had in years past did this well of a job! Thank you Hoover!.

Found this carpet cleaner at my local Walmart for $99. At that price, it’s an excellent value, but I wouldn’t pay more than $159 for this model. Compared to other models I’ve used, I’ve noticed this one doesn’t get nearly as hot.

If you have stains that are stuck onto your carpet, they will have a hard time loosening, so be sure that the water you load into the machine is very hot — maybe around 140°F or more. You will also have to make more passes compared to other models to thoroughly dry the carpet.

The advertised 45-minute drying time is unrealistic. The spin brush is more versatile compared to the roller brush most other brands use. It’s much easier to clean longer, shag-type carpets and stairwells.

If you have longer carpets or want to lift a cleaner onto the stairs (requires multiple people or some finesse), the Hoover spin brush models are best. I would not recommend using either the included cleaning solution (purple sticker) or the Hoover-branded solution I purchased separately (green sticker).

Liquid solutions are far too expensive and their stain-removing power is based on enzymes of what they determine to be the most common household stains, but depending on the types of stains you have, the solution won’t do much, and stains will reappear within hours.

It will always be cheaper and much more effective to use a powder-based cleaning solution like OxiClean because the mechanism it uses works on all stains, not just the most common ones. You can mix a small scoop of powder-based solution and warm water into the solution compartment without any issues for a much better result with this cleaner! Try mixing a small amount of powder and water and brushing it into a hidden area of your carpet just to make sure it looks okay.

Right out of the box I was disappointed in the size of the tanks and the width of the base. Tanks much smaller than previous model fro 5 yrs ago which means more stopping to fill and emptying. The width of the unit is less as well requiring more passes to clean the the carpet.

The brushes don’t seem to work as well either. I expected something better than my previous model which is 5 plus yrs older, needless to say I was disappointed. The one positive is it seems to have strong suction for extracting liquid from carpet, the hot air feature is just that, hot air BS and makes no difference what’s so ever except to use more energy.

Those giving this crap apple of a carpet cleaner obviously have very little experience with using others. I would only recommend this for rugs and as a spot cleaner for carpet. I am seriously considering returning it next week as I just purchased it and it took me all day with scores of trips emptying and filling tanks to clean one room.

In my opinion, the engineers who designed this should all be fired. Your better off going on EBAY and try and find Hoovers older model carpet cleaners like the Power Scrub or Dual V which are excellent machines.

I used to have Bissel machines but the quality had really gone down with my last purchase so I bought a Hoover this time. It is easy to set up and get started. It cleans carpet and furniture quite well.

My only issue, why I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars, is when the dual tanks are full it is quite heavy and without a self-propel feature you have to muscle it around. I didn’t even look for the self-propel in the description because it’s standard on the Bissels I am used to– my mistake.

The best feature, and it is quite important: the clean-up is outstanding. This machine is so easy to clean up and clean up WELL! After a few uses the Bissels always took on a foul pet odor smell because you just couldn’t get all the components clean; this Hoover comes apart easily (kind of like Legos) and every single part– even the brush assembly– rinses thoroughly.

That’s a BIG WIN. Even without a self-propel this is an excellent machine for the price. Next time I’ll spend a little more and get that feature. If you don’t mind a little exercise while cleaning, it’s a terrific purchase for pet owners.

I have gone through several carpet cleaners over the past few years. I have three dogs and one of them has been having health issues. I’ve tried several carpet cleaning machines in the $200-250 range and they all seem work fine for about a year or so.

Some work better than others but they all seem to be acceptable. After a year or so, they lose suction. I do clean my carpets weekly. I was initially hesitant to buy the Big Green Machine because of the size.

It just seemed to be so much bigger than the less expensive models, but it really isn’t. The storage footprint is slightly larger but not as much as I initially thought. The top folds down so it only takes up a storage space of approximately 2 feet by one foot on the floor and about two feet in height.

The cleaning ability is phenomenal. I should have bought one of these years ago as it would have saved money on buying several less expensive machines that do not last. This thing has suction! When you pull the suction trigger, you can feel it giving resistance to being pulled.

It’s not enough resistance to make it difficult to use, but enough to let you know it’s sucking the water up from the carpet. This leaves my carpets dryer than any other machine I’ve used. The carpets are not dry afterwards, but they aren’t soaking wet and they do dry pretty quickly.

The pros: Big clean and dirty water tanks. Good suction It seems to be well built and I’m not worried about it breaking in a year. The cons: It’s a little bigger than a less expensive machine, but this isn’t even a big issue.

My wife is writing this review as it was purchased for her. I did lots of research prior to asking my husband for this very expensive machine and let me just say, it isn’t worth the money. It ‘looks’ great, but I’d compare it to going to a fancy restaurant where the food looks amazing, but tastes sub-par.

I’m a neat-freak and felt my Bissell Proheat 2X wasn’t doing the job this monster could do, particularly after seeing pictures where people’s carpet looked brand new again; even carpet that didn’t even appear to be dirty, like ours.

Right out of the box, this sucker was ready to use so, I got right to it. First thing I noticed was how heavy and awkward to maneuver around it was. The next thing I noticed was that it did. nothing.

No change in the carpet what-so-ever even after several very slow passes in the same area and following instructions to the letter. That said, after the carpet dried, dirty spots appeared all over the place that weren’t there when wet.

I wasn’t about to lug out that behemoth again thus, I went over the carpet today with my much cheaper Bissell and lo and behold, ALL of the spots disappeared and it dried to perfection. I’ve attached a pic of the dirty water tank my other Bissell picked up after using the high dollar one.

In conclusion, more expensive and fancier doesn’t always mean better. My cheaper Bissell by FAR out-performs this one. I just didn’t know it until I saw it for myself.

The first thing you will do when you use the Rug Doctor Portable Spot cleaner is fill the tank with cleaning solution. That is the moment that you will realize that, after the engineers designed this thing, the “industrial design” people, who’s goal it is to make things look cool, messed it up.

The tank for cleaning solution is curved on the top side, and yet you are supposed to turn it upside down, fill it with water to the water fill line marked on the side, then add cleaning solution to the next line.

But this requires 3 hands, since there is no way to put it down while adding the cleaning solution, since the tank is curved so prettily. Also there is no handle on the bottom of the tank by which could hold it with one hand while adding cleaning solution with the other.

Further, the distance between the water fill line and the soap fill line is about 1/8 inch, so you’d better get the water exactly to the right level while holding it perfectly level, and then, while holding it perfectly level, add the required amount of soap.

The instructions don’t tell you how much soap this is – only that you are to fill to the line. The wheels are not very useful for me. It’s easier to carry it than to wheel it, since it’s not very heavy and the extendable handle is rather short for a 6′ person to use – unless you have freakishly long arms.

Because the unit sits low, I have to sit on the floor to wind the cord and hose back into the unit for storage. The hose is a little hard to get wound up. In actual use, it’s OK. The vibrating brush doesn’t do much, but the vacuum is strong.

I’ll probably tape or glue some ugly block of foam onto the tank so that I can set it on the counter to fill it and we’ll probably use it occasionally for years. It cleans OK, but nothing miraculous.

This is the first ‘faulty’ item I’ve bought that I won’t send back. The spray function doesn’t work even after troubleshooting every option and this seems to be a common problem from online reviews. The left hand side of the machine is therefore obsolete.

However I prefer to hand apply shampoo to the carpet and the hoover function on this is great. Expect to get back 50% of fluid applied if you press hard. Carpets are fully dry within 2 days and they are rejuvenated in texture as well as clean.

Have only used Rug Doctor spot solution so cannot comment on other carpet shampoo makes. Easy to use, hardly any cleaning required and easy to store. Be careful of pulling along by hose (as I do my Dyson cylinder vacuum) as it isn’t balanced and will tip over, curtailing the suction function until you put it right again.

I am amazed at how effective this machine is at cleaning up even very old pet stains from carpet and mattress topper. I have two chihuahuas that occasionally barf on the bed or my carpeted bedroom floor, and sometimes they will pee too on the carpeting.

I of course blot up as much as possible when this occurs but it was still gross. Not bad enough that it stank to high heaven or anything but the beige carpet looked gross with lots of little spots and definitely needed a freshening.

I couldn’t believe how immediately this machine removes the pee and barf stains!! Even ones that were really old, even got old bile stains out of a white mattress topper-quickly and easily. Everything looks and smells great now.

I really can barely believe it! I happened to get this machine second hand/used from someone’s tag sale but I would pay the full price. Well worth it!.
