20 Best Carpet Glue Remover (2022 Updated)

I was unable to remove a protective adhesive backed film on an aluminum car chassis and realized that some spilled gasoline had done the job. Being very cautious about flammable materials, I looked for a safe and effective material to dissolve the adhesive that held the clear film and was a little skeptical at first.

Much to my surprise, a couple of applications and some overnight soakings made the film easy to remove with a plastic razor blade leaving no scratches on the aluminum. Great product and safe to use!.

I’ve used this product on a few different items. I absolutely love it. Tape, glue, stickers everything comes off.

My new Can Am ATV’s shiny plastic body was covered with warning stickers. I used a hairdryer to remove them, but sticky residue remained. Rubbing alcohol wouldn’t touch it. Scared of what Goof Off might do to the finish, I bought Goo Gone because the label proclaimed “SURFACE SAFE”.

I applied Goo Gone to a large sticky-residue area. And it worked; the residue turned into a mildy-sticky gel that could be wiped off. But, THE PLASTIC WAS NO LONGER SHINY. Turtle Wax Renew Rx Label & Sticker Remover did the same exact thing.

Thinking “what have I got to lose?”, I then tried Good Off on a spot. The residue came off, and, ironically, the plastic underneath retained its original, shiny finish.

I got some glue on my jeans and cardigan when I was installing the lino floor. I applied it to the stains and after waiting for a bit and rubbing quite a lot it came off. I’ve been able to recover both pieces of clothing.

Great!.

The glue remover its self was of, but the packaging was terrible. The remover was like water packaged in a bottle without any way to get a small amount out at the time. The only was to use it was to just pour it out and then too much came out.

Bad planning!.

Didn’t work for me. 3M is usually a favorite brand of mine but this stuff is expensive and I expected better. For those folks who had trouble with the push and twist cap, I did too. Tip: Don’t bother with it.

Carefully pry off the useless plastic push and twist cap and toss it. Using pliers, gently grab the metal cap and carefully twist to unscrew. When reclosing, carefully twist with pliers to tighten. The metal cap has no apparent gasket or seal, just metal, so you need to make it snug to avoid leakage or evaporation of the product.

As an “adhesive cleaner”, it certainly left my old hardened adhesive nice and clean. As a remover, it didn’t remove a thing even with repeated soaking.

I had to remove the dealer installed clear protective film on the front quarter of my hood from my 12 year old car. Clear protective films have a life of about 10, so needless to say, it was looking pretty bad.

The film was splitting in places and it looked like I had giant scratches on the hood of my car. After enough comments and explaining it to people, it was unsightly enough for me to decide it had to go.

I did a test section: scraping off the plastic film, revealing some quite strong adhesive underneath. Using some goo-gone I quickly realized I either needed a lot of goo gone or a more effective adhesive remover.

I did some research and this came recommended and opted to try it out. I can report that this stuff is amazing at removing that adhesive, yet not harming the clearcoat, paint, or other body plastics (like headlights).

Follow the directions: use in a well ventilated area, and wear protective gloves. Lay out a cloth and soak it with this remover. The adhesive then starts to gel up and, as much as was left on my hood after removing the protective film, I found it easier to scrape the gel off with a plastic blade and wipe on a paper towel.

Once enough was removed, you could easily wipe up the rest with the soaked rag. Needless to say, this stuff is highly recommended and works well.

This is the best adhesive remover I’ve ever used. To be fair, I haven’t tried that many specialty solvents, but I’ve tried all the normal methods (isopropanol and denatured alcohols, citrus oil cleaners, etc.

), and this required the least amount of effort. I’m a fan of other 3M products, and this didn’t disappoint. I originally purchased this after researching the best methods to removal decals from a travel trailer.

My trailer, like many others, had pretty decal stripping that looked great when the trailer was new but quickly begin to fade and peel from long term sun exposure. This stuff with the use of some plastic putty knives, did the trick without damaging the surface.

I’ve used it on a wide variety of other surfaces since and it’s done a great job on all. It WILL NOT do all the work for you. If you are looking for something that eats away the adhesive and lets you wipe it right off with a rag, this won’t do that.

What this WILL do, is allow you remove stubborn adhesive residue without damaging the surface you are working on, within reason. Make sure to read the label, and test on an inconspicuous area of the surface you will be working on just to be safe.

Even if it doesn’t work for what you originally purchased it for, it will come in handy at some point, and is a very useful product to keep in your household arsenal. Please note that this can is in NO WAY child proof, so keep it away from curious hands.

I recently purchased some (brand new) wheels for my car. I paid for someone to apply a ceramic coating to the wheels. The detailer used Goo Gone to remove the adhesive from the wheel weights. (I had the tires mounted before deciding to dismount them for a thorough ceramic coating application).

As you can see in the picture, not only was the product unable to remove the adhesive left over from the wheel weights, it stripped the paint on the wheels. According to the MSDS of Goo Gone Original, the active ingredient in this is Petroleum Distillates, hydrotreated light.

P. D. is a great for cleaning and degreasing just about anything, but it is NOT safe for painted surfaces, much less a household cleaning product. P. D. ‘s are also used as paint thinners, depending on the specific chemical, but that was information they weren’t willing to divulge.

I contacted the manufacturer, stating that I was looking for some compensation to have my rims refinished. They essentially told me they would refund the cost of the product, but wouldn’t help me out with the rims because it should have been tested in an inconspicuous area.

I told them they are marketing a product in an incredibly “shady” manner by hiding behind a no liability clause, saying that you need to apply to an inconspicuous area to test, prior to cleaning. So let’s just assume that Goo Gone is varsol, turpentine, acetone, ketone or kerosene.

Now ask yourself which of those products you’d be willing to store in your home to use as a general stain or adhesive remover. Don’t be fooled by the marketing on the bottle, those are incredibly caustic chemicals.

There is a reason why it’s advertised to remove any stain on clothes, but for the love of God, don’t be wearing the clothes when you’re applying the product. Remember that they aren’t responsible for what this product does to the surface being cleaned because, “YOU SHOULD HAVE TESTED IT IN AN INCONSPICUOUS AREA FIRST.

I bought this to use on adhesive left on my dashboard from velcro. Noticed on the label that it works on ink. oh boy, does it ever. A few weeks ago I was trying to write a check in my car. I reached up to turn on the dome light and had the pen in my hand and accidentally scribbled ink on the headliner in my car.

I didn’t think anything would get ballpoint pen ink out of cloth. So I tried the goo gone on it. I didn’t rub it–I just barely wiped it on the ink spot which was a couple inches by maybe 4″ of scribbling, and it immediately took it out.

I mean, it took like 5 seconds or so. I was really surprised and quite pleased. By the way, it also took the adhesive off my dashboard in a few seconds. I love this stuff.

I’d previously owned a small bottle bought when product unveiled at dollar store years ago. Since then, I regretted not buying more because it was the only product that made it easy to remove price stickers from photo frames, or sticky residue on smooth surfaces.

This was exactly what I needed. I have had some sticker residue stuck on the inside of my car windshield for MONTHS because I kept forgetting about it. Then I came across this adhesive remover, and it worked perfectly.

I will say it was a little tough to keep it in one place on a near-upside-down surface, but that is no fault of the product. I also tried it on a new french press that had some sticker residue left on it once I peeled it off.

I let it sit for maybe 15 minutes and it came off pretty easily. If you can, I would try to leave it on as long as possible because it was a little tough to get the residue off the french press, but I would say it was an equal effort to just washing dishes by hand – nothing unreasonable by any means.

I would definitely recommend this product if you’re looking for something quick and easy, and best of all it will last for awhile if you’re just using it on little stuff!.

I had to remove some old adhesive residue from the end panel of the bathroom cabinet and was afraid it would damage the skin panel. But it worked well to cleanly remove adhesive without leaving any streak marks.

The gel formula helps the product stay in place when applied to a vertical surface, but I still had to respray, because it started to dry out a little bit. Also using a non-marring scraper to scrape off excess where you can does help to speed up the process.

Works great! Our garage floor had carpet glued on the concrete. Pulled off carpet, scraped floor and poured on blue bear. Some areas had to leave on for 3-4 hours. Scrape floor and rinse with water. Does not smell either.

We took up old tile and had the black tarish glue left on the floor. If I could find a Eco Friendly remover & we could do it, it would mean: Business could stay open, employees would not get sick, and did not have to get a special permit.

It is slower acting than the chemicals. That was ok for us. If you have a hard to deal with spot, we found that you could scrape and reuse during the same application. So keep back some used in non serious areas to reapply in hard to clean areas.

But use quickly do not store! Have clean up containers ready! But. Is not any more messy than other products.

I used this product to remove old potentially asbestos containing mastic off of the concrete basement floor. The product is pretty easy to work with and doesn’t have an offensive odor nor does it create fumes of any kind.

After following the directions. It soften the mastic to a mostly liquid consistency at the surface and soft enough to scrape off beneath. There was an oily residue, which require orange degreaser to remove.

it was fine for tiling over, I am not sure I would have wanted to live with the raw end product, though I expect additional cleaning would have resulted in a satisfactory outcome.

I pulled up old (very old) broken tile off of a small bathroom floor. The glue underneath in most spots was thick, black, and very very stubborn. This was my first time dealing with this kind of project, so I was a bit overwhelmed.

I brushed this on probably thicker than I should of, let it sit about two hours then started tackling it. The thinner areas of the glue, mainly where the tile was not broken up, came up right away with minimal effort.

The adhesive remover softened it up to a gooey but manageable substance that was easy to scrape into a pile. I did have to apply a second coat to the more stubborn areas, let that sit another two hours and boom, came right up! The adhesive remover itself was very easy to clean up after that, just used a bucket with some old rags and dish soap.

Definitely made a seemingly impossible job, doable!!!.

I used this adhesive remover to help remove old flooring and it worked wonderfully! The linoleum in one of my bathrooms needed replaced and we were having a hard time removing it. This made it so much easier.

It did not have an overpowering smell and it did not require a lot of work once it soaked for a bit. After pouring this on some stubborn adhesive, I was able to easily scrape it away. We also used this to remove some tile that couldn’t easily be removed under a vanity we installed a while back.

I used to use a rug to hide the imperfections before using this adhesive remover, but now I don’t need to! I was able to replace the tiles once the adhesive was all gone. I would definitely recommend this to help make adhesive removal easier.

Didn’t work to remove car window tint adhesive. I should have read the reviews. I left it on adhesive for like 10 minutes and still had to scrub the adhesive off. Also, this thing is messy. Goo Gone leaves an oily residue on anything it comes in contact.

A good thing about it is that it has a pleasant, non-aggressive lemon scent, unlike varnish remover, or similar, and the oily residue it leaves is removed with warm water and sunlight detergent, so at least that.

I had protected car seats very well before using this and glad I did. In the end, if you need to remove car tint glue, just use warm water with detergent and the green scrub end of the sponge. Scrub hard and see if it slowly removes the glue.

If that doesn’t work, you can try this, but I am not sure if it has any effect at all, besides making everything an oily mess. I had to scrub the rear windshield for about 2 hours with water and detergent, so in my book, this product didn’t work.

It is also flammable, so needs to be handled appropriately.

To remove a parking pass sticker from inside my windshield, I first soaked it with isopropyl alcohol to make it come off easier. After pulling it off there was a layer of sticky residue. I applied Goo Gone for a couple minutes (like the bottle says) and wiped with a clean white cloth – it did nothing.

I reapplied Goo Gone and let it sit for about 2 hours. Then when I wiped it off with a bit of scrubbing, all of the residue came off! Then you need to clean off the oily layer of Goo Gone. I sprayed a vinegar-water mixture (or glass cleaner would probably work) on, rubbed it dry, and the window looks clean.

Goof Off Adhesive Gunk Remover is awesome stuff. I mostly use it to remove sap and bird poop from my car before washing, and it works great. Very little scrubbing required. And no paint damage to vehicle.

But it’s useful for so many clean ups. And you only need a little, it really does go along way. It also works well on shower tiles, gets soap residue off instantly. So it’s part of the weekly clean up, and it helps to keep your grouting clean.

The only thing I can say, is I normally get it in the smaller squeeze bottle, so the spray bottle was a nice change, but it took forever to get the pump bottle spraying. Other then that great product.

This is such a wonderful product! We are doing quite a few home renovations right now and we noticed something on our pillar out front of our house. We did not notice this when we bought the house, but the previous owners must have taped something on the outside because there was still a piece of tape there.

We took it off, but it was still sticky, years of being taped up there it did not come off. I used this remover and it came right off! It did not take any of the color off of the column, and it took the adhesive off quickly.

I was very impressed! Having a toddler at home, this is going to come in handy!.

My wife has a few pet peeves, but one of her biggest is stickers on things. They really bother her, and for some reasons most stickers fall apart or leave a sticky residue when you try to remove them.

This stuff works great. It breaks up the glue that’s left behind and makes it really easy to remove. Goo Off has been a great addition to my cabinet and I will definitely be buying more in the future.

I spilled super glue in my handbag. I took the chance and used it inside my handbag. Bad idea. Super strong smell and DID NOT REMOVE ANY SUPER GLUE! Very upset!! And now I have a strong odor inside my bag after washing it off a few times.

The super glue was clear in my bag, the good made it white and the super glue is not coming off and it also stained my bag.

I had a loose rear view mirror and one of my so n’s used Gorilla glue, after a period of time the glue loosened, but it was still attached to the other parts of the rear view mirror, that fit into the slot.

In removing the rear view mirror and placing this in a glass bowl, (prevents chemical from damaging) and leaving it for a few days, it loosened all of the glue that was attached to the brackets that the mirror fit into on the windshield.

I was able to replace everything with no problem and to use the glue that came in a kit made especially for replacing your rear view mirror. One product that I highly recommend.

I was very disappointed. I specifically bought this product to remove one drop of Krazy glue from a pair of pants. I bought this one because it said that it works on ALL types of cyanyoacrylate. I tried many times, saturating the spot and the glue never softened, not even one bit.

I’m still hoping to find a product that will work. Very disappointing.

Ordered to remove white latex paint splatters from a window screen. Read the warnings about testing!! This removed the paint splatter but also the color of the screen and began to dissolve the screen material.

I was able to ring it off fast enough to preserve the screen, but please be careful. It is indeed powerful and effective, but use carefully. I have used it on many other surfaces with excellent results and no problems.

A BAD MAN KEYED MY CAR IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT IN MY TOWN. I BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT UPON THE RECOMMENDATION OF A POLICE OFFICER WHO SAID IT WOULD REMOVE THE STICKER HE ALSO PUT ON MY CAR. IT DID REMOVE IT BUT THE PAINT WAS NOT THE SAME COLOR UNDERNEATH THE STICKER EVER AGAIN.

IF SOMEONE PUTS ONE OF THOSE NASTY STICKERS ON YOUR CAR THIS WILL TAKE IT OFF. I HOPE I WILL NOT NEED IT AGAIN IN THE FUTURE.

Goo Gone is the newest cleaning product in my home and it’s a big hit. I saw this item for $2. 99 in HomeGoods and decided to try it out and I’ve not looked back. I use this cleaner on my counter top, stove, Ninja blender appliances and my stove.

It truly works wonders and leaves your kitchen smelling fresh especially after you’ve just cooked dinner.

YouTuber Everyday Home Repairs recommended this to remove adhesive from LVP. I bought it in preparation for glue-down LVP installation, just in case. Good thing too! Contractor placed that blue tape across many areas of newly-installed LVP.

When removed, it left stripes of white discoloration! Alcohol did nothing to remove the stripes, but several applications of Goo Gone finally did. Fortunately, I’d initially only pulled up the tape in one small room before noticing the issue.

For the rest of the taped areas, applying Goo Gone to the tape beforehand and then to the floor as the blue tape was being pulled up prevented white-stripe discoloration. Whew! This stuff saved a new floor! Also good at removing black marks from white plastic drawers.

This stuff is like a liquid magic eraser or something!.

I bought a new vouch with a reversible left or right extended side. After a year I decided to flip it To my shock there was a sticker on the flip side that left a big glob of glue. I tried everything.

The material was suede like and this product said it didn’t work on suede. but I tried it anyway. The cushion is now flipped. Enough said. Very happy.

I had an old sticker on my mailbox I wanted removed. I tried WD40 but it wouldn’t get it off. I soaked the sticker and got most of it off. Repeated and the rest scraped off.

We were painting the nursery and I did not secure the plastic cover in the carpet because the heater went off and tipped over the paint trey. I came home and found semi dry paint in a the nursery. Thank heaven that Good off carpet paint remover did just that, remove the paint from my carpet.

The carpet was just as soft after applying the spray to remove the paint. No suborn stains are left behind with this product and just as a side note it works great on furniture as well. Kids with red popsicles can be a nightmare to take out but Goof Off Carpet Paint Remover released the stain on my couch and loveseat without any discoloration.

My carpet has no discoloration either and within minutes it was soft and not hard like some other so called removers that need to be used immediately after a spill. Like I said the heater had gone off and my paint was more dry the moist, if you know what I mean.

IšverstiShow in original languageIf you have carpeting and you’re a do it yourselfer, this is something you might want to give a try. We got ur newly/used home repainted before we moved into it and the painter was a legit mess.

Dripped it EVERYWHERE (thats what we get for using thumbtack as a reference). ANYWAYS it was all over the floors hardwood, tile, carpet. The counters, wall moldings, doors, handles, you name it – it was probably dripped on.

None thee less hardly any on the walls. and forgot to do some places (but thats besides the point). fast forward to a year here and I didn’t know they made such a product, we have tried and it since it has set In for such a long time on the carpets and every other surface we were hopeful but not that hopeful.

But hoping to get it some off if anything. some got lighter and not as deep, using this repeatedly was needed, and I would continue to try to leave it on longer, try other processes to get stubborn stains out.

But best advice use it when its fresh!.

IšverstiShow in original languageI chose this Goof Off Carpet Paint Remover due to having some small spots of dried paint on my guest bedroom carpet that has been there for about 4/5 years. After following directions, it did not lift the paint off on first go.

Second attempt, I left it longer, repeated directions as stated, a little came off but not all of it. The third attempt finally broke it completely loose, whether thru scrubbing or the product I am not sure but I shall give it the benefit of the doubt and say that even the directions say it may take more than one attempt and it did, eventually loosen the paint and remove it.

Lets face it, if agitation were why it came loose that would’ve happened years ago with vacuuming. Little bonus, I have spots by an outlet where I had a wax melt burner that spilled about 2 years ago.

I did clean that up right away but that spot always attracted dirt due to the oiliness that I could never quite get rid of. Well, first attempt using Goof Off got rid of that. The odor is a bit chemical, not overpowering but not pleasant and hence due to that, I give it a 4 star rating.

Overall I have to say that if you have a fresh paint spot, I believe this would work much better and would be good to have on hand while painting. On spots that have had some time to dry and adhere or in a glob, be ready to put in some work and multiple uses before having the desired affects.

I have a rear view mirror that was on my old Chevy. Like they always do it fell off. It had been re attached with super glue and it fell off again. I found the proper glue but it required that all the old adhesive be removed.

It took less than three minutes total to remove all the old super glue with this product. Great stuff.

Separated a misaligned neck joint on a bass guitar, assembled with Gorilla Glue. Took all of 5 minutes. Great product.
