20 Best Castle Nut Wrench (2022 Updated)

At a fraction of the price Ford OEM specialty tool this socket fits perfect and the craftsmanship is second to none!! I recommend it to all that need one for their job. I would no hesitate to buy their other specialty tools!!.

This tool worked perfectly for removing the rear hub nut on my 1996 F250 with the Ford 10. 25″ Rear axle. I don’t know how you would remove the nuts without a tool like this but I can say removing them with it was quite simple.

Just remember the left side is a left side thread. Good quality and good price. It’d be nice if it were made in the USA but they would never be able to sell it for this price if it were.

I bought this tool to remove and reinstall the manual locking hub spindle nuts on my ’95 Ranger XLT with a Dana 35 axle. The socket is the perfect size for these spindle nuts. Only thing less than ideal is that the inner tabs don’t hold super well and start to slip when torquing down the outer locknut.

The outer nut needs to be torqued down pretty tight (150 ft-lbs) so you’ll need to push on the socket a bit to keep it on the nut, other than that it works great!.

Most channel lock products are made in USA, except this wrench is made in Spain. Despite this disappoint, the wrench is still well-built, the knob wheel turns precisely and does not wobble like most other wrenches I have used in the past.

The numeric markings on the wrench really helps in adjusting to the knobs size for easy loosening or tightening. Price wise it’s a little too pricy but if you consider it a long-term investment, you should be able to have this wrench for a long time, which would make up for the price itself.

This is the Irega made in Spain wrench. I’ve been a Crescent wrench user all my life but when they went to offshore production in China I started looking for alternatives. Kudos to Channellock for keeping a lot of their production in the US, and going to democratic countries for their offshore production.

I read reviews on this wrench and I haven’t been disappointed. I have a Knipex Plier Wrench in my onboard motorcycle toolkit. It is probably a little more precise in the jaw adjustment but the jaws are not as wide and beefy as this wrench.

As always, if you have a proper fitting wrench on hand, by all means take the time to use it. Your nuts will thank you. If you need an adjustable “crescent-type” wrench you can’t go wrong with this one.

These are high quality Spanish produced (Irega) adjustables, Ive been using these professionally for years and I feel they are the best overall. They are tight and they open extra wide, the grip area is thick where you bang your palm to get stubborn fasteners loose.

I break the sharp edges around the head a bit with a belt sander so they dont wear holes in my back pocket. Highly recommend.

Ok so here’s my honest review. I have never had qualms about Sunex been using their impact products for a long time. They need to step their game up on these brake line wrenches though. Pros – Thick, shiny, design of the bolt holes Cons – Whilst working on bleeder screws, my Milwaukee wrenches did a better job than these.

When bleeding brakes, put the wrench on first then the hose. If you put the hose on the bleeder, won’t allow the thick wrench head to get on the bleeder screw I’d recommend a tool truck brand if you are seeking brake nut wrenches.

Improvement Areas – ok Sunex it’d be great if you tested these in field whilst making prototypes. Most of us mechanics work on the occasional corroded brake system and spray PB with added heat and we need tight tolerances to prevent bolt damage.

– Perhaps try re-designing the hex design? – Check out your competition and see how to reduce thickness for portability in tight spaces whilst keeping strength and alloy quality.

I’ve used three of the wrenches in this set so far, one I banged on with a mallet to knock that sucker loose. Polish is good and durable, cut of some of the larger wrenches is not quite as “perfect” as Snap On (faint cut marks in the jaws), but these wrenches mic out exactly the same as my Snap On open-end wrenches.

So tolerances are very good, you shouldn’t slip off the fastener any easier than with that other brand, which is the main concern. Come in a good durable tool roll which can be hung on the wall or rolled up, and the roll is printed so I don’t have to label them with a sloppy paint marker.

Really great deal, very happy with these. I use them for aircraft.

These wrenches (Sunex 9914, SAE Angled Head Wrench Set, 14Piece), are very nice. Much better than normal for cheap tools, and a lot better than my old set, which were also cheap chinese stuff, of unknown brand, about 15 years old.

These have a nice finish, fit well, and do what wrenches should do. The roll-up thing that they come in is also about ten steps above I expected–it’s actually cordura nylon instead of the usual vinyl, and it’s what I’ll keep this set in.

If you work on hydraulic systems on any kind of machinery, you really need a set of angle-head wrenches. They will pay for themselves in time savings over and over. They are much safer than regular wrenches, because you will experience much less frustration in life, you won’t get frustrated as much, or throw tools across the shop as much, and generally be so much happier and pleasant to be around that your coworkers will delay their plans to kill you.

I only needed a 10 mm flare wrench to redo my brake lines on my 2005 Tacoma 4×4. I don’t have any metric flare wrenches so I figured it’s about time I bought some. All my sockets and combination wrenches are Craftsman from the late 70s and early 80s, when they were made in the USA.

Ratchets are Snap-on. These never failed me once. But, today I will not buy Craftsman due to a decline in quality. I read Gearwrench and Tekton are decent tools for the price. I went and gave Gearwrench a shot.

I am impressed with the finish on the tools. Looks very nice and feels heavy. Makes my old Craftsman hand tools look outdated. I have attached a picture showing the craftsman next to the Gearwrench. For comparable sized wrenches both measures out to be very similar in length and jaw width.

The Gearwrench being a little wider feels comfortable in my hands. From what I can tell the chrome plating looks good and I saw no chipping in any of the wrenches. Only time will tell how long the chrome plating will last.

So, I replaced all my brake lines from rubber to braided stainless in hopes to improve the braking when I am towing my boat. When I first used this wrench, it was kind of loose around the nut. I thought this wrench may round the nuts.

I tried it anyway. It removed all eight brake fittings with no problems. None of the nuts were rounded, all corners were still squared off. These fittings are 15 years old and has never been wrenched before.

I’d say the Gearwrench flare wrenches did good. Happy with purchase and would recommend.

These wrenches are an absolute time saver. After using non flex line wrenches, and crows foot line wrenches for years, struggling with those hard to reach power steering lines on racks, transmission cooler lines, etc, I finally decided to get these.

I couldn’t justify Snap On prices, but I’ve used enough Gearwrench wrenches, I figured these would be good enough. And they are good enough. They definitely have a sloppier fit than more expensive wrenches like Snapon, but not as bad as really cheap wrenches.

The flex action is nice and smooth and allows extreme angles that will save your butt countless times. For example I did a rack on a Cadillac Northstar before I bought these, and then a few weeks later, did the power steering lines on another Northstar.

Removing the lines from the rack without the flex wrenches was such a pain, and wasted more of my time than I’d like to admit, having to remove more things than I’d like to loosen the lines. With this flex wrench I didn’t have to remove anything around the rack, and released the line from the rack in a few seconds.

Money well spent! So the quality seems what you would expect from a nice tool made overseas. It’s not stellar, but it’s adequate. The finish on the wrenches is very nice, smoothly polished. The flex joints are not consistent between wrenches, some loose, some tight.

I suspect these, like other similar flex wrenches, will fail eventually at the flex joint. But luckily most people, myself included, do not use these on a daily basis, more like every couple weeks. So I suspect they will last for a long time at that level of use.

They are a little long when compared to your average flare nut wrench. This is good for leverage, but even with the flex joints can sometimes be a little to long for the space you have. Keep that in mind before you going throwing away your old Craftsman line wrenches.

The wrenches are comfortable, easy to use, look great, and save tons of time and aggravation.

If you turn wrenches for a living, a set of flare nut wrenches or crows foot can get you out of some tough situations easily. This set of Gearwrench flare nut wrenches does you one better by adding a flex head to each end of the wrenches.

Some folks prefer the fixed head version of these wrenches due to their dislike of flex head wrenches but I haven’t had any issues with them. In fact the flex head design gives the tool a greater versatility when working in areas that are restricted, such as working on brake lines and small hydraulic fittings where many times, a straight wrench simply will not access.

The finish and overall quality of these wrenches are good and this set covers all of the sizes of line fittings I have dealt with. The flex heads have enough friction to keep the heads from flopping around on you and the case that comes with this set is perfect for sticking straight into the tool box drawer to help keep you organized.

This set is well worth the investment and Will save you lots of frustration from rounding off small fittings.

Had a problem with the pins reaching the holes in the gland nut. The inside of the tool frame was hitting the ram causing the pins to not reach the gland nut holes. (Bobcat Excavator Arm Cylinder). This was due to the extra thickness of the casting(note the arrows).

Did not want to machine off part of the inside of the metal frame which would have weakened it. So I machined out two new pins with an eccentric (off center) stud. This brought the pins (studs) closer to the inside of the frame enabling them to to fit into the gland nut holes.

The tool now works perfectly. Maybe you can explain the problem to your supplier and they in turn can get the manufacturer to modify the frame to make an absolutely perfect tool. In the picture on the right you can see the machined “off set” pins correcting the fit to the gland nut.

The pins started falling out of the tool shortly after the first use. The bolt and nut came loose and got lost from it inside my toolbox (toolbox is inside a moving van, I am a forklift technician and go to warehouses to repair lift trucks).

I was using this last week on an extrelemely hard cylinder on a muffet. I was using a breaker bar and it slipped (because the pins are worthless) and hit me on the forehead, bled for a while and ended up having to use a pipe wrench.

In all honesty, I have used this tool about 7 times because it is so poorly designed. I mainly use a pipe wrench or klaw pump plier but have to be careful not to damage the gland nut. After I loosen it, then I can use this wrench but only to finish removing or installing the gland nut, then I have to use the pliers to tighten again because this wrench just slips if you put any force behind it.

I was hoping they would work better so I could use them with a torque wrench but forget that idea! If you buy these pliers, make sure you get additional pins.

I’ve had it for over a year now. The 3/4 drive makes it annoying to use. The set screws aren’t metric or standard so you can’t tighten the pins all the wall and the allen holding the two pieces together is a bad design if you over tighten it the two half’s don’t move but too loose and the come off.

I wouldn’t buy this again I actually tossed this out. Hammer and chisel work better.

ordered the floating prop wrench kit. It arrived sooner than expected. It appears to be well made and gives me peace of mind to have on board for emergencies. Thanks much Tom

This tool is an inexpensive way to address prop change. The interchangeable sockets makes it versatile. Time will tell if the plastic parts (sockets) will hold up to use, however, I’m a casual user so works for me.

I tried this with the 15/16 insert for a 40 HP prop. The PLASTIC wrench simply slips around the prop nut, does NOT WORK. Just buy a metal socket specific to your nut size and use 1/2 inch drive socket wrench.

I like this multi use armors wrench for the obvious uses. I didn’t realize it had multiple hammer attachments for different uses. I use the brass attachment that will not mar up things make of steel and such.

I would recommend it too family and friends. Hope this helps someone. Be safe.

Fit and finish of this wrench is extremely high quality and it’s built like a tank. Offset design of castle nut “teeth” allows clearance when using “oversize” QD end plates such as Timber Creek and Magpul’s ASAP.

For standard end plates you can turn it around so that the wrench encapsulates the castle nut. NOTE: If using an oversize end plate and a KAK Shockwave buffer tube be extremely careful of wrench clearance to avoid marring/scratching of parts because you don’t have much wiggle room! Other than the above issue I’m very pleased with this wrench.

Is it expensive? Yes, but you get what you pay for. I look forward to purchasing more Real Avid products (From JoeBob, of course).

This wrench requires you to completely remove the gas block for it to work. If your parts kit comes with a barrel that already has the gas block installed and peened, this wrench will cost you a lot of time and cause a big headache.

Sometimes the most expensive option is not the highest quality tool. This is one of those times.

I bought this set of flare nut wrenches after trying to loosen a rusty brake line to replace a wheel cylinder. Even after a soak with penetrating oil, my open end Craftsman wrench started to round over the fitting.

I tried a couple of sides of the fitting with the same result so I opted to pick up this wrench set and give it a try. These fit tightly on the fitting and allowed me to break the line free. I also used a couple of the other sizes to replace the ABS pump on this 27 year old vehicle that’s spent all of its life in the Rust Belt and all that I tried fit securely and loosened the fittings.

Unfortunately one fitting twisted the line, but that’s certainly not the fault of the wrench. It more speaks to the secure fitting of the wrench.

Needed a set to do a brake line job on my son’s pickup. I only had one or two flare nut wrenches that I had accumulated over the years. And I was sure I wouldn’t have the size needed for the job. The Quinn set is more expensive than the Pittsburgh but you can quickly tell the difference in quality of the wrenches when in hand.

While the Pittsburgh has some bigger sizes in it’s set, there are no skips in sizes on the Quinn. Plus it came with a decent enough wrench organizer holder to keep them organized in my tool chest.

This Quinn product is quality and very well made and finished. Also all this at a reasonable price. I like that HarborFreight offers different lines from cheap to quality, before they just carried low quality stuff.

I do miss the coupons and sometimes buy tools from other stores because HF no longer offers their coupons. That’s what made this store COUPONS!!!!! Bring them back.

Excellent tool set and priced right. I needed these to bleed the lines going into the top of the ABS pump on my ’06 Explorer. Almost no other way to get the flare nuts lose. You won’t need these often, but when you gotta have them, you gotta have them.

Just like many other tools you don’t use very often, but you have to have them to keep from breaking stuff or butchering the job. The finish is not ‘Snap-On’ quality, but it is very good. And one third the price of ‘Snap-On’ I might add.

I don’t think you can go wrong with these in your tool box.

This works fine as a crowfoot once you get it on, but I do have a significant gripe. Why couldn’t they put a detent inside the socket hole to keep it from pulling off??? I used this to remove a fuel filter bolt from underneath my car.

I had two extensions on my ratchet just to reach the aforementioned bolt. There is no detent for the ball bearing on the end of my extension. It will slip off anything you put it onto with the slightest of pulls–and it did.

This thing came off my extension at least 6 times and that was coming from underneath. Imagine how bad it will be if you are holding it with the crowfoot down. The lack of a detent causes another issue.

There is no detent to keep it straight so it flexes on the end of your extension. It flexes enough that you can’t fit it over the bolt you are working on. I had to hold it in place above the bolt and use a 15″ screwdriver to push down the open end of the crowfoot just to get it to square up with the bolt.

Crowfoot wrenches are used because you don’t have enough clearance for a standard box-end wrench. It stands to reason that you should do everything possible to make it fit securely onto your ratchet extension since you have no room to work.

With a detent it would have been perfect. Without one, it’s incredibly frustrating.

These aren’t really high end tools but I have found them to be more than satisfactory for the price. I am not sure how many off brand companies make these so your only other option is the tool truck brands and they aren’t getting any more out of me.

My only complaint is the earlier sets were slightly offset and this set is not. Not sure if that will ever make a huge difference but i do wish they were like the standard set I bought a few years ago with the offset.

Let me start by saying this: i am not a professional mechanic. I do however have half a dozen vehicles that i repair and maintain, so i know a good tool when I see/ use one. There are a ton of tool companies out there and it’s honestly true; you get what you pay for.

These are gear wrench so you know they will be a good tool. However they have completely blown my expectations away. If you are on home essentials direct looking for tools, let’s face it. You’re not buying off the tool truck.

This is the next best thing. The fit on these wrenches is so good they broke when the rustiest flare nuts loose on my 99 Jeep after the rust was knocked off with a screw driver. The swivel heads also make them versatile and able to fit in tight areas.

These are a no brainer if you’re in the market for line wrenches.

It sometimes works for tightening a brake lined, but not for loosening one. If this worked, it could be a great time saver. As is, I find myself using the plain-old line wrench because while they’re super frustrating, it’s still less frustrating than these guys.

I really, really wanted this to work out.

These ratcheting line wrenches ?? are really handy, as long as you can get both squarely on the nut and get at least a 60 swing. They’re not an opener, or a closer, but for the “4 miles” of threads in between those, they’re a huge time saver!.

I was really happy when I found these wrenches at Autozone to tighten a loose oil feed line flare nut on top of one of my turbos. As it turned out the ratcheting mechanism does not work like is shown in the videos, it is too loose to catch on for additional turns.

I was able to get the wrench in place but it would not perform as needed. Had to find another solution. Gearwrench, is there a way to tighten the spring mechanism on these wrenches?.

It worked when replacing my dana 35 spindle nuts but the spokes that are used could be longer. If they were longer, they would work much better.

Had to file the teeth square. But other wise it worked ok

Die Nuss muss extra bestellt werden. Nach 4 gewechselten Rdern kann ich jedoch sagen, dass es mit dem Hazet Radmutternschlssel locker von der Hand geht. Also zu empfehlen. Die Frage stellt sich jedoch fr mich, ob ein billigeres Produkt nicht genau so gut gewesen wre.

Works really well. My first time trying such a tool. It is a great solution for on the road travel where no air tools would be accessible. Very sturdy construction. Recommended.

Drive over the rd very rare do I get as flat tire let alone middle of nowhere USA. Do my own work and heard of this tool truh a friend. How great it is. And is looking good so far I try it just to verify it works GREAT.

High quality built Professional Armorer’s wrench that provides all the adapters you will need to install and uninstall castle nuts and muzzle brakes. Very sturdy when using and you don’t know get the felling that it will slip while in use.

Will last forever.

The size and shape of this wrench make it really easy to use. If you use a torque wrench it’s easy to position this. Doesn’t have a bunch of cuts for various items like muzzle devices but I always use a normal wrench for them anyways.

used it to tighten the castle nut. has long finger like notches that fit right in. The tool has some heft so that helps. its probably forged for casted, either way very strong.

Having used a number of these job-specific wrenchs Ive experienced a range of performance levels. From adequate to complete failure. In this Magpul wrench I finally found 100% success! Even with frozen barrel nuts this wrench (and a little heat) performed perfectly.

Obviously designed by folks who have been there. Like they say, you get what you pay for. A well designed and very high quality American made tool. Worth every cent and then some. Do yourself a favor.

It’s a great tool, had more then enough features for what you need for a diy builder. Great quality, great feel, non slip grip, and having torque specs stamped on the side is a plus too so you can quickly reference to if needed.

I would recommend this armors wrench to any level of builder.

4/5 – works as described with one minor drawback I purchased it because my standard armorers wrench wouldn’t fit on my oversized (shockwave) pistol buffer tube. With that being said, my castle nut is now tight.

I am a happy customer because I got what I expected. The only reason I gave 4/5 (as opposed to 5/5) was because the of “tooth” marring the threads on the buffer tube. This could be user error, but I could not correct the issue without interposing a small layer of cardboard, etc.

Otherwise it did the job. Overall, I wouldn’t purchase for my primary wrench, however, for the price it does the job as expected. It is an inexpensive addition to your tool kit if you already own a full size wrench.

It will be in the range bag for my AR pistol and I would buy again over finding a >$50+ alternative for a single application.

I got this when I misplaced my old castle nut wrench. I used to have one of those little castle nut wrenches made of stamped sheet metal. I had bought that because it was cheap, compact and light weight.

However, that one was uncomfortable in the hand and didn’t get a good grip on the nut, so when I lost it, I was actually happy to have the excuse to try something different. Sometimes cheapness has its price.

With this new wrench, I finally feel like I can get a good grip on a castle nut. It also fits snugly on a standard barrel nut. At the opposite end from the barrel nut is a tool that supposedly grasps some of the newer styles of barrel nut, but I have no idea how many brands it might work on.

Perhaps other reviewers could add some details on that.

Building my first AR, I know I’m going to build more in the future and wanted a good wrench. Picked this one because it was a set. Vice blocks are not that great. The fit is wobbly at best. You can use it, but its a little annoying.

The multitool wrench is cheap metal that breaks easily. If you know you are building one ar then you might get by with this one, but if your going to use this more than once look elsewhere. The castle wrench does not fit my standard castle nut right and ended up stripping it ruining the esthetics of the rifle.

Im pretty disappointed in the quality of this set. You get what you pay for.

Not the fanciest of names but this armorers wrench has served me well for years and recently bought another cause I let my brother use my previous one and as he enjoyed it I told him to keep it. The surface is rough on it but come on, it’s a tool not a beauty product.

Definitely recommend and definitely saves you some money.

First time I used this wrench was to remove the barrel nut. I barely got the job done before it started slipping. I could not remove the barrel nut on another AR15 at all. The ‘teeth’ edges had worn off after 1 use.

It is a hefty wrench, and the slots in the handle will probably will probably work OK for other functions.

The tool got the job done for what I was needing it for, but the tool was completely bent upon arrival. It may be a design feature, but I don’t have it on my other one. I would have given it 5 stars for all that it can do, and the price point, but the tool itself is bent to about 15-20 degrees going half way down the handle.

Quality control should have caught that in my opinion. If you get one that isn’t bent, you will probably love it for the price. Even bent, it still gets the job done.

This item has its good and not so good. It has GREAT torque to remove and install sticking lug nuts. The retractable handle is a plus when removing the nuts closer to the ground, making the process a lot safer.

Now, the one thing that needs improvement is the way that it works with wheel lock nut keys. It’s practically impossible to turn the wrench with sufficient leverage to remove wheel lock nuts. It will not stay straight and there is no way to apply enough torque to break those pesky stuck locks.

Overall this is a great product but it lacks the strength needed to loosen or tighten wheel locks.

Great tool for the money, quality seems very good. The castle nut portion is clean/precise and fits quite well, making good solid contact at all three points. The A1/A2 receiver extension portion is a little too tight on the flats, at least on the one rifle I own with an A2 style fixed-stock, but this is not a big deal.

This is a well engineered tool. It fits perfectly in the castle nut. It is long enough to provide adequate leverage to loosen or tighten the castle nut. The handle end is dipped in a rubbery grip that provides some padding and a surface for a good grip.

IMHO, this is a good tool at a good value.

Middle tab of wrench would go into the castlenut slot but other 2 wouldn’t. After some slight filing they did fit. Overall the wrench appears to be good quality and I don’t reget the purchase. I wouldn’t consider this if you do not have or have access to small files to make possible adjustments.
