20 Best Cat Food Container (2022 Updated)

I have two of these food storage containers from 5 plus years ago. They are tough plastic nothing could chew through it You cannot press it in with your hand or your finger. This new one I bought is such poor quality that it dented in just from me grabbing it out of the back seat.

I was able to go inside and press the indentation back out but that tells you how thin the plastic is. It might keep ants out but not rodents or opossums. I bought this specifically for my dog treats back storage.

I kept them in my garage and the rodents got to it. I don’t think this container would keep a rodent out they would just chew through the thin plastic. Not nearly as durable as they used to be.

We currently own two of these containers and love them. The exterior stainless is easy to clean and looks very nice. The container is narrow and tall and easily holds a 40 pound bag of Royal Canin Labrador food.

The containers lid is easy to open, secures easily and seals well keeping the food very fresh. It has a great scoop that fits in the lid when you arent scooping food with it. The container rolls well and is easy to move to new locations.

We love that the inner liner can be removed and washed easily then placed back inside just as easily. The only negative of this container is that the stainless steel shell is thin and does dent easily.

We were aware of this issue from previous reviews and are careful to not lean on the lid etc. Overall, after 8 months of daily use we definitely recommend this container for dog food storage.

I wanted this as I saw another pet owner use one of these for her dogs. Luckily I purchased it on at acheaper price which was still overpriced. Once I received it, I cleaned and sanitized the inside which the removable container inside is plastic.

Didn’t realize it was plastic. That was what I was trying to avoid with the other cheaper airtight pet containers which I should have just purchased insteadI pour a bag of kibble. The one I recieved seems to have a slight issue with how it locks.

Not sure if that is how it’s suppose to be but I don’t have anything to compare it so… I like how the outside is steel or stainless or whatever. Easy to clean. Love the magnetic scooper on the inside of the lid.

I’m content with it. Wouldn’t purchase another though unless it was reasonably pricedOther than that, the price is too expensive and ridiculous for it.

I really like the look of these cans hence the four stars. Otherwise, I would give them 2. 5. They are a very nice way to store pet food, rice, potatoes, etc easily and visually pleasing better than a rolled up bag in your pantry.

It’s clean, stylish, and makes organization beautiful. With that said, there are a few things that irk me about these cans. First, the seal. It does the job, but I’m disappointed that it does not pull tighter to create a stronger seal.

When you unlock it, there’s no significant release as I would expect from a well constructed seal. I store pet food in these and am not sure if the seal is doing it’s job. But what I do know is that when I open a fresh bag of cat food to pour in the can, and feed the cats straight from the fresh bag, the cats come running.

But after a week or two, they no longer come immediately like they do when there’s a new bag. I can only assume this is due to the freshness aspect of the food not being there. As such, I am a little disappointed here.

I suppose I could create an additional gasket for this can but I’m not sure if the time and hassle would be worth while. Maybe I will tackle this at some point. Second, the wheels. The wheels on the cans are NOT soft rubber or rubber at all, but rather plastic think cheap outdoor grill wheels.

If the container is heavy, and you have hardwood floors, there is potential for them to scratch the floor. It would be much better if the wheels were rubber so that the containers could be wheeled a little softer and not sound like you are grinding grooves in your hardwood floors.

Third-price. Generally, I feel you get what you pay for, however without the aforementioned improvements, I don’t think this can is a good deal. Yes you are paying for the name,however I would assume that these would have been better engineered because of that name.

They do look really nice so there’s that, and I do like the way they lock but beyond that, I’m sure there are better cans out there.

I bought three of these containers back in January, and I like them okay. I would just say that when you’re thinking of purchasing a rolling container, think about the wheels. The wheel wells on these are molded on the inside, so you can’t sit bags of food flat in the container.

I use smaller bags of food, so I wanted to be able to put a couple of bags in each container. Two bags fit, but they tilt forward and/or backward because the wheel wells are inside, which is a problem.

Some of the other containers have wheels on the outside, which allows for more room inside. Wheels on the outside will also make it easier to clean if you drop food into the container and/or if you empty the bags into the container.

The wheels work great! Placement of the wheel wells is just not good.

The design of this bin is incredibly flawed for dry pet food. I purchased online. The photos do not make this flaw clear. If I had seen it in person first, I wouldn’t have bought it. The wheels have been made flush to the outside bottom (assuming for stability).

On the bottom of the inside, sections are raised to allow room for the wheels. About 2″ from the bottom, a scoop can no longer be used. Nooks and crannies in the bottom block retrieval of the kibble.

To get the remaining 2″, the bin has to be picked up and turned over. I tried just using a bag inside, but that stopped the lid from closing properly. I will be returning this and purchasing one I can get all the food out without such effort.

I’m surprised anyone would think this was a good design.

This container arrived with the lid open in order to fit into the box which I thought was a smart idea at first. But, when I tried to shut it, I noticed that the gasket was peeling off the lid in two corners and had to be re-seated into the frame.

It’s made of a flimsy foam material that doesn’t seem to be glued in or able to keep things as airtight as something denser like rubber. There is also a small gap showing that the gasket doesn’t form a continuous ring.

The environmental guilt of packaging and shipping something so large is keeping me from returning it, so I’ll have to check it daily to make sure it stays in place. It closes securely, rolls well, and looks nice, but having to fix an item before using it at all is not reassuring.

A good seal seems like the most crucial element in food storage, otherwise you may as well use the box or bag the food shipped in.

I’ve previously been storing dog food in an older plastic storage bin that wasn’t airtight and that looked bad in my kitchen. This new storage container by Simplehuman is a nice upgrade. Airtight storage for my dog’s food.

Easy to use. Love the convenience of the scoop and how it attaches to the inside of the lid via magnet. And looks great. I had been worried about the possibility of the item arriving dinged or dented, based on some of the other reviews.

But the item that was shipped to me was well-packaged and arrived in flawless condition. Only thing that I can suggest to improve with the product, and this is minor: the attached wheels seem somewhat flimsy.

I don’t need to wheel the item around, so that’s a non-factor for me. But better designed wheels would be appropriate with an otherwise very nicely designed product.

before we were using a garbage, cheap, icky tin can we got for free for our dog’s treats. in our new home, we decided to get something more fun and safe (glass vs tin) for our pet and we found this wonderful jar.

it’s super cute (our lid is in red, not black), totally quality glass with the cute little white dog howling at the top (looks like snoopy!). it sits on the counter and adds to the home. holds plenty of treats, too!.

Being a cat person, I love this lovely jar which I use for cat biscuits. Wish they would make lid in more colours.

To start, I have two dogs; an 11 year old Lab and an almost 2 year old bully mix. Anyone with a Lab knows they have a tendency to get overweight, ours has been on a weight management food since she was taken off puppy food.

When our puppy was transferred to adult kibble, we put him on what she was eating just to make meal times easier. After 6 months of crate rest following a couple hip replacement surgeries I decided to start feeding him a higher protein diet to rebuild muscle which is where the vittles vaults come in.

I thought, 40lbs of kibble would be perfect for each dog since they seal airtight and the kibble would stay fresh, and they’re stackable so they won’t take up that much space. They’re definitely airtight.

Stackable is debatable. They do NOT hold 40 pounds of kibble. They don’t hold 30. I went to fill one with a 32lb bag of kibble and I had about 5lbs left after filling it to the brim, shaking it to settle the kibble, and filling it even more.

Thankfully this was not an issue for my purposes. As for stackability, yes they do fit on top of each other. However, they are not very stable even when fully filled and I think a decent hit would knock them right over, and I definitely wouldn’t stack more than two.

We keep them in a low traffic corner so I’m not worried about them toppling but that’s something to take note of. The top vault also weighs down the bottom vault and makes it a bit harder to close it.

That said, they are well built and seem sturdy enough. If you’re looking to get one for the airtight and pest proof seal and aren’t buying huge quantities of food, I say go for it. If you’re buying a lot of food or looking to stack containers I would size up by at least ten pounds per food bag or look at other options.

I have been using this for 6 months before leaving this review. This container does keep the food fresh! It takes us just under 2 months to get through a large bag of dog food, and this does a good job keeping it fresh through that time.

It does exactly what it says it will do. That being said. there are some questionable design choices. One is that they provide a rounded scoop that doesn’t fit into the squared bottom corders, so when you get to the bottom of your container you have to figure out how to pour out the last of the kibble which isn’t as easy as you’d think since this is a larger container.

Another design problem is the difficulty of lining up the lid when you are putting it back on. I’ve taken to memorizing where the word “closed” has to be lined up with in order to screw on the lid without having to struggle to get the threads lined up.

The last main design flaw is due to the good seal on the lid. When the bin begins to empty out there isn’t enough weight to hold it in place and there are no rubber feet or anything else to keep it from sliding around.

You have to have this against a wall or something else to keep it in place while taking the lid off. At the end of the day this does exactly what you need it to with keeping kibble fresh. But I don’t think I’d recommend it if you have any mobility or hand strength issues due to the design flaws.

I bought this a 60lb Stackable Vittle Vault in April 2021 when I adopted my dog because I was told by ALL my dog friends how amazing it is. I have used it almost a full year to try and love it. I simply don’t! Some people say you should store dog food in the bag inside of it? Can’t fit a 30 lb bag of food inside the bag in here let alone 50.

So I would dump the dog food in and just wash it between bags. Except this thing is molded plastic with about 12 different grooves and bumps along the inside surface, making it hard to clean every nook and cranny so you don’t have oils going rancid.

Can’t even just rinse it in the shower because if you try to dump it out, water catches in the rim. And that last bit of dog food? I am 5′ 3″ and I feel like I had to be basically inside the dang thing to get the last cup or two.

If I try to dump it out, it goes everywhere because of the aforementioned lip. Oh and the lid? Please try to screw on this lid with one hand in one attempt. I found it so difficult to get it threaded on correctly! Overall this is a headache.

I will use it for bird seed that doesn’t need to be accessed twice a day and cleaned out once a month.

I love OXO products and my kitchen is full of them. I have a lot of their kitchen tools, which are excellent, durable and reasonably priced. I love the containers too. I have a lot of these containers pictured in various sizes that are in my storage unit right now because I had to downsize for a short period of time time while I decide where to move next (which is why there isn’t a picture).

In my old kitchen (and what I’ll set up again) I had these full of what I used most: pasts, oats, coconut flour, lentils, etc. They are a great way to organize your kitchen or pantry and they keep what’s inside fresh.

The seal is excellent and I never had an issue with anything going bad or air getting in. They are easy to open, even with my RA. Plus, I think they are more visually appealing than bags or boxes. I highly recommend these and any OXO product.

I’ve never been disappointed or had to replace anything I’ve purchased by them.

The OXO Pet Pop Containers are fantastic for pet food – and for human food. After contacting Oxo, I was notified that the Pet Pops are the exact same thing as the standard Pops with exception to the square button on top and the side of the containers are not tapered at the top.

The standard human Pops are circular – the Pet Pops are square. and a couple of bucks cheaper. The exact same thing, except for the button and cheaper? You can guess what canisters my kitchen is full of.

The 4 Liter container is great for holding 5 pound bags of flour. You can store really any dry food in this container – cookies, crackers, etc will all be kept very fresh, and the container is easy to seal.

My mom particularly likes these containers because it’s not hard for her to open. She has arthritis, and it helps that she can easy open and close this container without any hard pulling motions, like on Tupperwares.

The container maintains a good tight seal, and looks quite nice to boot. Overall, I’m very pleased with the Oxo Pop line – they’re durable, easy to clean, and definitely a breeze to open.

I bought two of these to use for my outdoor cooking storage of wood chunks and charcoal. They’re perfect and easily fit a single regular bag of charcoal. Very heavy duty. The lid snaps on super tight so you don’t have to worry about the contents spilling and the lid coming off if you have to pour.

The lid door is also tight, and I thought I was closing it wrong because it always caught on something. Then I realized that it’s a “stay open” feature if you have to pour. Very cool, works great. There’s also a grabbing indentation at the bottom where your hand naturally fits so you can hold the main handle (tough and sturdy) with one hand and the bottom easily with the other to pour.

While trying to figure out where to store the containers, I stacked them, and they do fit snuggly on top of each other, so they don’t slip or wobble. For someone like me who isn’t going into them constantly for pet food, that’s a nice compact organization feature.

The scoop isn’t really appropriate for my application, but I do have dogs and would probably be just ok for kibble use. I will say my own separate pet scoop is more flat/wide, whereas this container scoop is taller/narrower.

In terms of measuring accuracy for small kibble, that’s alright, but testing my large dog’s large kibble into this scoop felt awkward and not really the right amount. The scoop measurements are 4” tall, roughly 1.

25” deep, and starts off with the spout opening at 3. 25” wide narrowing down to 2. 25” at the bottom. There are 1/4 cup measuring marks along the side, mostly easy to read. So it’s more like a small, narrow kitchen measuring cup than a dog food scoop.

No biggie for me, that’s not why I bought it. The container itself really is great, and I hope it lasts as long as I think it will.

After much research, we choose the Buddeez. We didn’t want the HUGE size, but the price at Sams pushed us over the edge, and glad we did. It comes with the lid, bin, and the 1 cup measuring scoop. The overall lid has a small rubber gasket in a groove that snaps onto the bin.

Then, the hindged portion has a snap down and there is a snaping locking devise to keep the food fresh. We put the 50lb bag of food in and it fits with ease. We choose not to dump the food so it can stay fresher in its waxed bag.

The mounted measuring cup on the lid is perfect for just grabbing it and scooping out a measured 1 cup. There are wheels on it so moving it around is easy. Highly recommend!.

Absolutely love this. I’m using it for my bird seed. I feed outside birds. Would leave the seed bags near back door but made cleaning this area a chore in itself. Now with the wheels so easy to move to clean.

When company comes can move them elsewhere. Would like the same color top as the base to see what is in there instead of having to label.

It’s a good solid plastic, seals are ok. But, there are no wheels. Not a big deal to me, but others might care about that. I’m hoping it does the job. My cat is on prescription dry cat food that’s 58.

00 for an 8. 8 lb bag. I haven’t felt comfortable with just resealing the bag it came in. The container held the 8. 8 lb bag I just put in it, but I think 10lbs might stretch it.

I recently picked up a airtight food container for our dog. It was the MP-230 10lb by Remington. It is airtight and locks. Perfect size for our smaller dog. We only need to keep smaller bag sizes for him.

It fits nicely under the table we have in our kitchen so it’s out of sight. My only complaint, is that under the lid there is styrofoam in the edges. I first took it out and threw it in the trash because that’s what you usually do with styrofoam.

But then I realized it wouldn’t lock without it. It took it back out and put it in and it locked. It was a cheap way for them to do that. It should have been made out of rubber of silicone. All in all, a good product.

This is the third IRIS rolling food container I have purchased and I do recommend them. My previous two were both advertised and labeled to hold up to 50 lbs of pet food. One is still going strong three years later, one a wheel broke when we accidentally dropped a 50 lb bag into it (totally our fault and otherwise the container is fine and will be repurposed where we do not need the rolling feature).

I bought the 69 qt (rather than the same I had bought before) because it is advertised/described as holding up to 54 lbs. It arrived today and the IRIS label on the 69 qt container says up to 46 lbs.

The plastic that the wheels pop into is thicker than the one we broke which is good. The wheels are smaller so the entire container sits a little lower to the ground but it still rolls well on tile floor.

My other IRIS containers have a large lip under the top all the way around which can be used as a handle when rolling/moving the container. This one does not have much of lip around the top edge, so it is not as easy to grab to pull/roll the container without popping the lid open.

Bought this container to use for birdseed in my shed and am pleased w/ the sturdiness of the plastic container. The lid does not hook on to the base in the back though I may be able to shave the plastic down to make it work.

The front of the lid has a latch that hooks on to the base so that works well enough to keep the lid on for our purposes even if the back hinge never ends up working – that part is just a poor design.

Overall it’s going to meet our needs from which to fill up bird feeders. I do like this company and the many clever items they offer.

I have 2 of the dog food hampers that you previously sold. I use them for storing cat food and cat litter. I was hoping that you would continue to sell that version. When I saw this one I was happy to see that you had begun to carry a replacement even though it was much more expensive.

I found the new one difficult to attach the cover to but did get it together. This latest version is clear making it easy to identify the contents which is helpful.

I bought this for my large bag of cat food. It fits perfectly without having to empty the bag into the container. Lid was a little hard to get on but after 20 minutes I was able to snap it on. It works great, wheels work great and have a smooth roll to them.

Scoop is nice and sturdy. Dont regret this purchase at all.

Bought this as part of the same range (hooded litter tray) + bowl + food/water dispenser and I like how air-tight the lid is, keeping the dry food fresh. Marco is amazing to deal with – super helpful and accommodating!.

This container is a perfect food storage canister. Sensible size. Good colour practical but attractive to have on show. The scoop is perfect size and accsesable. Secure lid keeps food fresh. Perfect.

Also price very fair as good quality well made.

Fits nicely into my double shower tray. Deep baskets stop shampoo and conditioner bottles from falling over. Roomy, holds everything required for a shower

Far too small and much smaller than I thought. Only holds a 1. 5 kg bag of dry food – useless. Really only big enough to put treats in. It is reasonable enough quality and looks okay but I think over priced for the size.

This is the best pet food storage conatiner I could find, and it lived up to expectaions. Solid closure, so bugs haven’t been able to get in; the small opening on top, makes access to food easy, if you like to scoop or the handle can be used to pour it, as it also has a pour spout attached to the lid (though it might be tough to pick up full, I recommend tilting from the floor).

It’s a solid size, that can hold a lot of dry food, and I love that it’s clear so I can easily see how much food we have!.

Perfect. for 40lb bag of pellets I needed to store to avoid critters getting into it. The lid flips up at one end so can scoop out without taking entire lid off, but lid is easy to remove and pop back on in event your scoop is bigger than easy access flip.

Great storage idea for bird seed, pet food, etc. I purchased 3 of these for different types of bird seed. They hold a lot! They’re very sturdy and the dispenser tops are great! Keeps my bird seed fresh.

I wasn’t super sure what kind of food storage this container was since you can only see it from the top. When it arrived it reminded me of a cereal storage box, kind of tall but there’s a scoop attached to the lid.

I’ve taken my kitty with me recently and found this was an excellent way to transport dry cat food. Seal seems to hold up well and holds plenty of dry food and the scoop is a definite plus. A great way to store smaller amounts of dry food for pets.

I have three cats, so it’s not practical for every day use, but for travel or keeping small amounts on hand I think it would be a great option.

This little sucker is the perfect size! I often buy larger bags of cat food. First half goes into the gravity feeders but the bag would be bulky to store. This container is perfect! Holds the rest, is air tight, and easily fits into my cabinet.

It even has a scoop attached to the inside of the lid! I’d buy a much larger one for my dogs if I found it!.

It’s great! I love that it comes with a scooper built into the lid so you never lose it. And I really like the handle on the side so moving it around is easy and I don’t have to worry about dropping it and spilling food everywhere.

It’s small enough that it fits perfectly on the shelf with all my cats stuff.

I bought a couple of these in different sizes for my fur-family and was trying to find the one on wheels (that takes a bigger bag) but I couldn’t find one anywhere. as it was I had to go to the UK for this one so the unit had a lot to live up to in terms of $$, ease and carbon footprint.

As it turns out it’s a really good quality. Well made, with firm fitting parts that don’t feel quite as cheap as the bigger dog ones (see picture). Full of kibble, this is still tippable and the handle is strong.

Opening the plastic lid is an aquired art but that seal also contributes to keeping the biks really fresh so its not really a complaint. Looks great on its own or as part of a set.

Before I purchased this we had two massive tubs that looked terrible to store all our dog food. Now this takes up half the space and looks twice as nice. The plastic catches are a little stiff on the small scoop and smaller opening but I usually use the larger lid catch anyway which is very ergonomic – and I’m sure the smaller ones would loosen with some use! Would recommend – sturdy, lightweight, and easy to move if you need to with the very functional wheels.

Dog food gone sophisticated! P. s the only thing I would say is that it would be nice if a plain one was sold without the images of dogs – although it is amusing seeing your own dogs reactions to those dogs.

This is a fairly robust product, if a little non precise around the big seal area, which is practical to use. The only unexpected issue was that when I put in the corner of the kitchen prior to filling it, my 18 month Labrador started growling (which he has never done before).

It appears that the picture of the alsation had worried him, staring at him without wagging it’s tail. We’re impressed with his vision, but had to hide the container until it wa covered in sticky back plastic.

I managed to get a nice silver to match the lid quite easily, but it was a little tricky to cut to shape and apply. So far (approx. 3 weeks) we are happy with the container in use, the smaller lid has a firm catch, and the scoop is an almost perfect size for a portion of biscuit feed, making it convenient to measure out.

I have the 15 and 30lb containers for our cat and dog food and absolutely love them. When one of our cats started to need a special weight control diet, I bought this container for his small bag of food.

As others have mentioned though this one has a different lid that isn’t air tight at all. Obviously our cat could smell the food because he would not leave it alone. The tall skinny shape also made it easy for him to knock over.

He’s never paid any attention to the other containers at all unless he hears us open them. We are using it, but it has to be kept up in a cabinet. I guess we probably go through the small bag fast enough that it stays relatively fresh, but I don’t feel like this container provides nearly the same protection as the larger ones.

It is also much less convenient to scoop from with the narrow, deep shape.

I get the bigger bag of dry food and it will go stale, these are great. No smell like with plastic containers. Comes with a lid and a measuring cup so you don’t over spill food. Lite grey in color sits on my counter, doesn’t take up a lot of space.

I got 2 for a 8 lb. Bag of food. There’s a little still in the bag but that’s gone in a week. This is for my 2 cats.

I looked at these in stores and did not buy them because of the smell. One day I found one on the clearance rack that had clearly been there for a long time. It had no more order. They are fine if you wear them out.

I have no idea how long it takes to air them out. Even with airing it out I still leave the food inside of the bag, it sits upright nicely in the bucket style. It’s sturdy and pet proof.
