20 Best Cat Glucose Monitor (2022 Updated)

The product appears to not work well with me, it always show me the high number of my blood glucose. I have 2 other glucose meters Contour Next and Freestyle-Lite meters. They both gave me the lower and reasonable blood glucose.

Just want to try the Prodigy Autocode. However, it doesn’t mean it would not work well for other persons. That is why I indicate that it is a good value and with good quality, but I don’t think I would recommend it to others.

This is my third Prodigy. It is easy to use and has a really great memory function. The down side is availability. Most drugstores and supermarkets with an in-house pharmacy don’t carry the Prodigy meter or the Prodigy test strips.

Online buying works, but, your test strips have to be ordered before you run out.

What a mistake this was. I just received 12/08/2020 and tried this. The first test strip told me not enough blood. So I tried 9 more from 2 different containers. They all told me not enough blood. Going back to my original tester ReliOn.

I’ve never received a negative message from these. Will be returning this.

My kitty has been suffering from skin allergies for a year or so. She would be visibly itchy (abruptly stopping when playing with her mousie to scratch or munch off her hair) and slowly started munching off all her hair on her arms, entire belly, legs and tail until she was bald! We put her on steroids for a few months and though her hair loss was at a stand still, she didn’t really grow her hair back as she was still munching the same areas.

We are SO glad her vet recommended us to try Atopica. It’s like a miracle! Her hair has been growing back every day for the past few weeks we’ve given it to her! She’s almost to her normal self again.

Highly recommend you try this for feline skin allergies. Tip: The first few times you give it to your cat, make sure they have some food in their bellies. We mixed it with our cat’s food and her stomach wasn’t used to it—She was nonstop puking that morning.

Now, we have no issues when we mix it with her food.

My cats lip was so severe that nothing worked but this after 7 months, it didn’t take it all way away but enough that I was ready for my own relief, everyday fighting with a cat then she hide on us, I can’t understand why these companies can’t make a flavoring that cats like! Same with wormers cats hate them! The product is good for problem but creates other problems, after a few months I stop giving it because of it all! Then start over down the road.

My cat was having issues of being severely anemic and after lots of test he was dignosed with an autoimmune disease two and a half years ago and was put on predisone to help manage his red blood count.

With long term use of predisone we risk damaging his heart, kidneys and other organs. Every attempt to take him off the predisone his red blood cells would drop into dangerous numbers. So after 2 1/2 years my vet contacted a specialist who suggested putting him on this medication to suppresses immune system to keep his immune system from attacking itself causing the red blood cells to go down while winging him off the predisone.

After a month being on it so far we have gotten him down to 1/4 of a tablet of predisone a day. We are hopeful that we will get my cat off the predisone. However I’ve been told he will need to be on this medicine the rest of his life.

So first of all it doesn’t come with not even a sample strip. Had to buy them separately. Wasn’t impressed at all at the quality and design of a machine which should be quite the opposite considering it being related to health.

So anyways app froze while creating an account with the company. Reopening it solved it. I put in the strip, then I tried taking a sample from finger, keeps saying to put in blood which I did, but nothing.

Tried several times with several fingers, wasn’t fun at all, and few times the syringe instead of going straight into finger it would go sideways making it useless. Still nothing, kept saying to put in blood.

Tried reopening app and it detects that the strip is used and to add a new one. But doesn’t detect the blood at all. How ironic. Anyways it’s a cheap machine that doesn’t work and my fingers aren’t thankful at all.

Nice idea for sure, but unit will not read a blood sample. Troubleshooting online focuses entirely on your phone not reading the reader itself, and no help anywhere on why on earth it wouldn’t do the one job it has to do – a glucose reading! We are a household of IT professionals, and spent a pile of time trying to trouble shoot.

Save yourself the hassle and take a pass on this. Perhaps the tech will catch up with the idea on future renditions, but for now it is non-functioning, expensive junk.

I was checking my sugar the bare minimum times each day. But because of how compact this meter is I take with me everywhere. As a result of checking my sugar more often, combined with the insightful and informative app, my A1C is dropping, I’m losing weight, and for the first time in a long time my blood sugar levels are within range.

I couldn’t be more pleased with this product.

Found this easy enough to use. Do not do what I stupidly did when checking that the monitor was still working accurately. I put the fluid in the monitor instead of on a test strip. Well stressed myself.

Totally stupid of me but it did make me buy another monitor unit the same as before. Since then no problems and I pay attention to what I’m doing more now.

Very easy to use and takes very little blood. Love it better then fastacare, The strips are very small, I’ve never seen strips this small. So easy to use it’s not even funny. If you have a diabetic pet it’s well worth it.

Was a requested gift. She still learning how to play, but is happy overall with the quality of the instrument.

I have had to change to this brand as my insurance won’t paid for other brand strips. Set up was easy and once I worked out how to get the blood sample on the strip, that was easy. The display was very clear.

So far the lancet is OK. I have had to change the setting a few times, to get a good stab that produces a suitable blood sample. I have old and tough skin! The one thing it appears to missing is a reminder to retest your blood after a meal.

With my old meter, I was able to set it at 1hr, 1. 5hrs or 2 hrs. There doesn’t appear to anything like that on this meter. I have contacted the manufacturer to make sure I haven’t missed this setting but its not mentioned in the booklet or their Youtube videos.

For me that is an important feature as an hr goes by surprisingly quickly and I need that reminder.

Do not waste your money. The strips are terrible. They do not absorb your blood sample no matter how many times you do it. I have wasted numerous test strips and needles poking myself so many times just to get this stupid thing to work.

You cannot even get a refund with this Defective product. Shame on this company for making such a BAD PRODUCT.

I am surprised that so many people have trouble with the strips. It is so easy to get a good reading. Once in awhile I get an error because I did not have enough blood but that is my fault. I love these strips could never go back to the other types.

the meter has so much going for it and easy setup, easy to use, and not very expensive. the lancet is not very painful but the sharps does not lock in to device to easily take off top off it keeps falling out of lancing device.

I like how it all is on a plastic piece that holds everything together for easier use and it is not stuck to the case it comes in, It keeps track of readings and gives average in 7 days, it is fun to use and makes the chore easier.

I have had several One Touch Verio meters and all have been total garbage. This meter works a LOT better. Old style I had constant errors and I wasted an estimated 10% or more of strips, this one is more like 2% so MUCH better!.

The AlphaTrak2 is an easy to use Blood Glucose meter. If your pet is diabetic a glucose meter for the home is essential to help keep them healthy. High or low blood sugar can take your pets life. High blood sugar kills more slowly than low blood sugar.

Low sugar can cause your pet to have seizures or it can kill in minutes. Testing is quick and easy to do. I have a diabetic cat and a dog with pancreatic cancer. By monitoring her blood sugar and adjusting her medication our dog has lived over a year longer than the Vet predicted.

I highly recommend this meter.

I used to buy my dog’s test strips on Amazon. But the seller through Amazon ran into some kind of delay over the holiday. My dog ran out of strips. If Amazon would have delivered them on time it would not have been a problem.

But Amazon was not able to fulfill their end of the bargain. When I contacted them they were so unapologetic for their mistake, that I vowed to never buy them there again. Now I will never buy AlphaTrak strips anywhere but Walmart.

They’re cheaper to buy the way.

It works as advertised and readings agree with my previous glucose monitor. It is easy to insert the battery and use. I chose this one as the test strips are the lowest cost I could find, and initial cost was low.

Great purchase. Glucometer came with a spare battery. Order arrived ahead of time.

Small size, easy to hold and doesn’t talk to me like some of the other meters do.

Replaced my old Autocode “Talkie” with this new version. It does everything the Autocode does and is more compact – without the annoying voice part.

My former employer used OneDrop as a wellness tool so I signed up since it was all free. That included a health coach, who I barely paid attention to, at first. Fast forward a year later and I’m at a different job and paying out-of-pocket with my FSA card because of my amazing coach! Once I decided to truly engage with her, it was a game-changer for me.

The only reason this isn’t 5 stars is I didn’t care for the meter or carrying case. The meter is just ok, feels like cheap plastic, and the carrying case needs to be in a bag or pouch for travel. My current insurance pays for a different meter and testing supplies, but the app and coaching are worth the $20 a month.

So I use an old carrying pouch from an old meter to carry my One Touch meter and supplies, and sync that to the OneDrop app, which is FAR superior to the One Touch app. I do all that so I can keep my coach.

Lindsay is PHENOMENAL! My diabetes got out of control last year and with her help and the app (and my own hard work) I am thriving and my numbers are great again. She answers my questions about eating, fitness (she’s also a personal trainer), gives me support by letting me vent when I’m having a hard day or hating having diabetes.

She cheers me on and helps me figure out the best ways to manage my disease and stay sane while doing it. She sincerely loves to help people and believes in what she does and it shows. If my current employer had OneDrop I wouldn’t have bothered getting a new meter because the OneDrop one, while not stellar, was pretty accurate and worked well and the supplies were free.

I came for the free stuff, and am staying because of my coach and the great app. They work!.

I have a glucose meter but decided to buy this because it connects and shares information with “Apple Health” and “My Fitness Pal”. I figured since I have to keep a log of blood sugar levels, weight, and a dietary log i would like to keep it all in one place.

The Meter The meter itself is small and compact, reads within seconds, and uses a surprisingly small amount of blood. It only has one button (on) and is super simple to use The only draw back is unlike my original meter there is no eject for the test strip, and although it does not matter to me it may matter to some.

The Lancing device A surprisingly simple device with impact adjustment although there are only 3 positive detentes which is not enough for some but worked out OK for me. The lancets are nice with a removable cap for safety and the lancing device has an eject slide to remove the lance, however it is hard to pull the cap after inserting the lance with out pulling it out of the lancing device, some improvement is needed there.

The Software This is the whole reason I bought this glucose meter. There is a lot of information you can track and the features of the app is vast. It will share information with “Apple Health” and “My Fitness Pal” as well as some electronic scales and even blood pressure cuffs.

There are tutorials that I would recommend for any new diabetic as well as a coaching system set up if you pay the subscription (optional). I would recommend the subscription to any diabetic or heart conscious person, the coaches are NOT doctors but people with enough experience to answer questions, help set your goals, and help teach you what questions you should be asking your doctor.

They are a coach in every sense of the word offering encouragement when needed, advice when asked, and a bit of accountability if you decide you need it. This app is not just for diabetics but also for those who need to get heart smart or need to manage weight goals The app is not perfect, it sometimes takes to long to update and can hang up on reports from time to time but I hope this will get better with every update.

It is not immediately intuitive and it takes some poking around before you find everything and learn to use it. I wish it could import your glucose logs from other smart meters to save you the hassle of having to hand type every reading for the past 3 months.

My final thought This is a good glucose meter with a GREAT app that needs some attention to make it intuitive and easy to use, and also to make sure that all the features and reports work with little hassle I would recommend this anyone.

The kit is very attractive in design and in manufacturing. Three essential components of the measurement are conveniently packed in a leather holder. The only problem with this kit is that it is not very reliable in results.

I was using several strips feeding them my blood from a single puncture and the range of results was exceeding 20%. I do not know if there are any measurement tools better than this one, but one cannot rely on these readings.

I was given this meter from my endocrinologist to try. I’ve been a Type 1 Diabetic for 26 years and this is the best monitor I have had to date! The screen display is amazing. especially for those middle of the night lows.

It’s always been within calibration to the doctors meter. Test strips are a bit pricier than most, but it is worth it in my opinion. I do not use the lacing device that was included with it as I’ve been using a specific favorite one for many years so I can’t comment about that.

Overall, great monitor, I’d recommend it for anyone!.

I have been using this for a couple of years now. It was prescribed for me by my doctor. I love this monitor. It is very simple and easy to use. The test strips are a lot cheaper than the ones for different brand monitors.

It keeps track of when your blood sugar was high and low. I like its simplicity so much that I purchased this one for my son. I would definitely recommend this.

My son was given this kind when he was diagnosed with Type 1. It’s a great meter. I love that it has a light at the end so that I can check his blood sugar in the night without turning on his main light.

It’s very accurate. I have 3 of these and they all read within 20 points of one another. It is also convenient that you can charge them with a USB cord, no changing of batteries. It also alerts you of high or low patterns.

This kit comes with everything you need to get started.

After getting a reading that said “hi”. we started doing 2 test back to back. We have determined, after a year of testing and medicating based on the test reading, each test was significantly different!!!!! First test yesterday “hi” second test 240.

first test today 505, second test 320!!! Ppl. don’t trust the readings! They are not reliable!.

It’s difficult to review a product like this because you have to trust that the test strip readings are accurate, and the glucose meter you’re using it with is accurate. It’s difficult to QC the product unless you had different glucose meters and test strips to use and compare which wouldn’t be practical.

So cost and availability becomes a consideration, so far so good, only time will tell.

My furbaby Bella has Insulinoma , has now moved into Hospis stage of her cancer, so I have to be sure of accurate blood sugar readings. I am confident they are giving good readings. This is very difficult, I cry alot! Thanks for this product at a reasonable price.

This product is easy to use. It will pickup a very small drop of blood which has been so helpful in eliminating multiple pricking to the ear. I definitely recommend it.

I purchased two packs of these and basically only got 1. The first pack I opened had errors every time I took blood. I have been doing this for a while so I am no novice. When I switched to second pack, I had no problem.

Originally I purchased these strips to verify that a veterinarian diagnosed UTI had cleared up after the prescribed course of antibiotics were completed. Upon first opening, it worked great for that purpose.

All was negative. Fast forward 9 months, I wanted to test my dog’s urine again, and unfortunately, the strips had since deteriorated. At first I thought the strip was showing positive leukocytes, so I thought I’d use another strip (since there’s so many in the bottle) to watch the color turn in real-time.

That’s when I pulled a strip from the bottle and noticed that the dry leukocytes test pad was already darkened to a pink/purple color before dipping it in the urine. Also the ketones test pad was noticeably darkened.

If you didn’t know the strips had deteriorated, you’d be inclined to think your pet had a UTI or other various problems. Since we were already scheduled for the vet, I had his urine tested professionally.

All negative. So the plus is that these strips are cheaper than a test at the vet, but the savings disappear if the strips lead you to believe you need to go to the vet. Unfortunately, and the bottle states, the “strips are [only] stable for 3 months after first opening.

” If you’re not paying attention to that, you’re going to get false positives and possibly go through a lot of money and worry for nothing. And really, who has need of 50 urinalysis strips that last only 90 days at best?.

Information I wish I knew before purchasing: Package comes with 50 test strips only- NO non-absorbent litter, NO pipettes, NO vials. Strips begin to deteriorate after the package seal is broken. They only last 60-90 days (maybe longer depending on storage conditions) so 50 test strips for my one cat wasn’t necessary.

If I knew this beforehand, I would’ve bought another kit that came with less strips AND the litter, pipettes, vials. The upside of having 50 strips, however, was being able to quadruple check the urine each time it was collected.

Personal experience: I suspected my cat had a UTI again so I bought this to check. I was hoping this would help cut down on vet costs if I was able to confirm whether or not he had a UTI before bringing him in.

The first time I did this, it confirmed he had high counts of leukocytes and pH was 7. 0. I’m not a vet or professional, but from my research these are some of the parameters what would suggest an infection.

I did not use this to test anything other than a UTI. I brought in a sample of his urine (I had to buy litter, pipettes, and vials from another kit) to the vet to do a urinalysis**. They confirmed he had an infection so we got him started on general antibiotics.

This seemed great because by dropping off a sample instead of seeing the vet my bill went from ~$200 to ~$70! BUT after he completed the round of antibiotics, I waited about a week and checked his urine again with these strips.

AGAIN high leukocyte count and pH was around 6. 5. Worried that the general antibiotics didn’t work, I brought him to the vet for a urine culture. Racked up a $405 bill because the vet said if he wasn’t showing signs of improving after the antibiotics then they have to do a urine culture AND X-Ray.

The results came back and everything was NEGATIVE. No stones, no infection. I had stressed out my cat by bringing him to the vet and spent another $405, twice as much than if I was to have just brought him into the vet in the first place (this is not counting the cost of buying all these testing tools).

A grand total of $475 from the vet. I’d rather bring my cat to the vet each time instead of relying on these strips from now on. *Disclaimer: This experience is based on ONLY testing one cat’s UTI. If these test strips will bring you peace of mind then it’s up to you to purchase it, but in my experience it wasn’t accurate the second time around.

Nothing can substitute getting checked out by a professional vet. I’m giving it 3-stars because my experience isn’t representative of testing for other illnesses nor testing for dogs. **Note that not all vets accept home collected samples and that samples MUST be brought in asap.

Vials and pipettes MUST be sterile. After 24 hours, urine samples expire and will not be accepted. If you have intentions of bringing a sample instead of bringing your cat to the vet to collect urine, check with your vet before doing so.

They might not accept samples. My cat’s history: 7 years old, male, UTI prone, had P. U. surgery when he was young.

I hope they’re accurate! My cat had somewhat of a cloudy urine and they checked for infection and it turns out and he has slightly elevated into the diabetic range. Then I noticed that the high calorie nutritional gel I was mixing his medicine in twice a day for the last year is loaded with sugars! I took that away and the kibble (carbs/sugar) and the test strips have all said negative or should I say didn’t change color at all? I’m estatic if he is negative and what I’m doing (also adding blood sugar stabilizing homeopathic “Mellit“ to his routine) has put him back to normal but it’s hard to tell when you see no change.

So I will probably have to go back to the vet to do a blood test just to make sure or bring them in a sample of urine. I wish there was a way to test strips to see if they actually are working or not or possibly expired even though it says three months from when it’s opened.

That’s why it’s hard for me to rate. I bought the nonabsorbent cat litter (three small bags in a small bag) so depending on the size of your litter box you might want to get two. The bags come with a pipette and a small test tube to make it easy to dip into.

Make sure you follow directions and put that in a clean litter box, dip for two seconds and then exactly time 30 seconds and check the color. I was able to get a great sample from there. Just had to separate the cats and put the older one in the bedroom with me until he went.

Since it’s not his regular box I was afraid he might have an accident with all of his health issues and 15 1/2 but he gave a great sample no matter what. Trying it again tonight!.

My diabetic dog was diagnosed 5 months ago. I have 3 glucose meters, and this is the one I use daily. It seems most accurate. The only problem I’ve ever had is that it stopped recording the glucose results in memory.

It does take a bit more blood than Advocate Pet Test Blood Glucose Monitoring System for Dogs/Cats PT-100. Tips from a medical professional: 1) apply a warm pack to dogs ear prior to puncture. (This helps capillaries fill with blood).

2) I use the underside of his ear, near the distal end. Results: my dog’s fructosamine results have been excellent, but I was using a different meter before.

I really am not sure how accurate this monitor is, it is dramatically different from a One Touch I have. I couldn’t afford the strips for the One Touch anymore so I switched. When I say dramatic, I mean even as much as a 100 point difference! My One Touch may read 190 and this one may read 120 or even lower.

It has caused me to second guess until my next A1C appointment. I would compare to be safe!.

This glucometer has a speaker system that is garbled which makes it difficult when you are hard of hearing. You cant turn the voice off. The carrying case is cheap and the meter wont fit in any other cases.

The good part is the blood sugar ranges have been close to my One Touch. I was able to find the strips for a reasonable price.

I bought this for my husband to replace his 10 year old+ glucose meter. He previously had a Prodigy meter, and we trusted the reliability. He is not tech savvy, and I am some better, but hardly an expert.

When the meter arrived, I found it was very easy to set up by following the steps in the manual. I liked the fact it has a carrying case. It came with 2 boxes of test strips, 50 each box. It was a bargain at $20.

Bought this about a month ago. Positives are, fairly quick and easy to use, only needs a tiny sample to get a reading, stores a l ok t of readings with the time taken Negatives, according to Google apps on the software is not available in the UK so Bluetooth connection only a applies for iphones, not available for Android.

Many of the features listed only work with the app As a basic meter it works ok, but it’s not advertised or sold as a basic model. Also, when bought it comes with a few lancets but no test strips. Adding those to your purchase almost doubles the price.

A final negative is that the Lancet device feels very flimsy and gives the impression it won’t last long.

Just bought it today in emergency , my last meter broken. This was the only model available in the big store. Sales advisor was clueless about its feature or use. Very disappointed to know I was not allowed to open it to know it doesn’t come with lancet or strips which was over priced.

The lancet device is fiddly and difficult to use. Meter has no light to see in the dark. Who needed blue tooth facility which doesn’t even work ? Price of test strips and lancets are more pricey than the meter.

I only found one problem so far. The Bluetooth connection. [It doesn’t connect. But shows up at the beginning. Then as soon as the blood count has been shows up. The Bluetooth is gone and other things show up.

Nothing downloads to my phone. [I tried to connect the Bluetooth again. But couldn’t. ] I don’t know if I did something wrong.

The first one of these bought did not register correctly, would show level of 28 and when retook minutes later would show 100. I wrote company, after seeing numerous reviews of this where people were also complaining, same issues too.

So company sent me a new one. Well tonight, this is 1st week been using the new one. it registered 217. retook right away and got 138. This product is not only worthless, it is going to kill someone.

Great value, strips are cheap and uses a miniscule amount of blood. Very fast too less than 5 seconds for a result. Would recommend.

Bought this as a back up, but have been using it as a primary, the price was great, the supplies can be bought for half the price of the other meter I got at Walmart. thanks

I am a first time diabetic, so I was worried about using the meter to monitor my blood sugar levels. The instructions were very clear on how to set the monitor up so it is ready for use. The package comes with a meter, test sticks, lancets, lacing device, control solution and a bag to keep all of the stuff in.

The bag holds each item in a spot to keep the meter and items safe and easy to grab it on the go. Once the meter has been set up and ready for use, it was very easy to test my blood for the first time.

First, you need to wash you hands to keep the meter and items clean. Then you can turn the meter on and easily place a test stick in the device and place the lancet in the device. Depending where I am, I may wash my hands again to ensure that they are clean.

Then I pull the top part of the lacing device back and place the lacing device up against the finger and press the button to draw blood. I, then place my finger up to the test stick and it will absorb the blood into the device.

It takes 10 seconds for the meter to read my blood level. I enjoy that the display is large and easy to read and I am able to hold the meter in my hand if I desire. So far, I have really enjoyed using this product to self monitor my blood sugar levels.

I have been diabetic for more than 10 years and have had dozens of glucose meters. The best machines are simple to use but still have the latest technology. The True Metrix blood glucose meter is a great simple machine.

I have been using this along with my older meter that is about a year and a half old and both have showed very similar readings, only being maybe a point or two different between the two machines. I like that the machine is simple, probably the most simple machine I have seen in a long time.

On start up, you just set the time and date and you can start using. To use, you just plug in your test strip and it turns on. It takes only a tiny drop of blood and only takes a few seconds to show the results.

My only complaint is that the screen is hard to read, if your not in a bright-lite room. I just use my phone’s light when it is dark, but a back light would be nice. Overall, this is a great machine for everyone who is diabetic.

I am going to get another one as a back-up as soon as I get home.

I began using the True Metrix Self Monitoring Blood Glucose Meter few weeks ago. I love all of the handy features it has! It comes with a carrying case which is perfect for on the go, I take it to work and every where I go.

This is the first meter I have used that has life event tagging, so I can tag when I check my sugar, if it’s before a meal, exercise, or after, if I’m sick, or before meds, that feature comes in handy with tracking and monitoring my levels.

This meter is super accurate and works very fast. There is a function for testing reminder alarms which would be good if you were to forget to monitor, especially if the doctor has you on new medication and you need to monitor it frequently.

The display is large and easy to read. The memory stores the date and time, and another feature is you can average the weekly blood glucose level or even monthly! It is perfect for what I need. I’ll never buy another one.

We’ve had good results with the Advocate Pet testing products and they’re much less expensive than the others which are ridiculously over-priced. I can’t see spending $55-60 for a 50 count box of the Alpha-Trak strips; that works out to over a $1 / strip! There aren’t too many brands of diabetic pet testing products out there so they take advantage of that.

Best price I’ve found on PetTest test strips. I usually blood test my diabetic dog 2-3 times a day and these are much less expensive than the other dog/cat system.
