20 Best Cat Nail Grinders (2022 Updated)

Nail grinder itself works well and is very quiet and vibration free. It came with a grinding shield with windows for different size nails, an extra grinding wheel and a USB charging cable. The instructions were totally lacking.

Nothing mentioned about charging before first use which is recommended. A poor illustration of use of grinder on pet nails prompted me to check internet for better information. Free debris cover was useless as it would not fit.

That said, it still is a fair value.

Giving 4 stars since I have only had the product for 1 month but am hoping it holds up for year(s). So far fantastic, my dog hates it but I have so much more confidence to maintain his nails in a healthy way.

I also love the extra deemed tip and dust cover. Feels like a great value.

easy to use and its quiet. not a replacement for clipping though. takes forever on one nail to “grind” to size. its more of a filer after clipping. maybe it would work for a small dog.

Another great experience trying out the Conair Propet Nail Grinder. This baby is really a value! For around $35 you can trim your pets nails at home comfortably and safely. It’s very simple to use and since it’s ergonomically designed to be extremely lightweight, comfortable to hold and has a grip so the tool won’t slip from your hand there’s no fumbling around with it while your pet anxiously waits.

Super light, extremely durable and feels like it’s constructed with high quality materials so it should last a good while. My experience with my scariest scaredy-dog was quick and stress free because number one it’s whisper quiet! Definitely high marks for that! And number two very light vibration so it won’t scare the s**t out of your animal and won’t tire your arm and hand out! Last but not least it has a safety guard ( it’s adjustable Even! ) so as to not pull your doggos hair into the grinder while it’s spinning.

The only reason I’m not rating it a full 5 stars is because it’s corded which just makes it a problem trying to hold your pet and keep them calm and still for ease of use. But, bottom line it’s light, efficient and easy to use.

First, I will say that trimming my pups nails terrifies me! I’m always so worried about nicking the quick and making her bleed! I love the idea of this being a grinder so there is no clipping involved, it’s good for just rounding out the sharpness and I love that! I also love that this has a plastic safety guard so that when you are grinding down the nail, there is no chance of going too far! Another great feature is that it’s rather quiet- however, not quite enough for my doggie lol she gets really freaked out when it touches her nail and we find it easier to do after giving her a calming dog chew, then she’s more relaxed and willing.

We tried to use the grinder on a family members puppy and the original grind stone that was in place was not big enough to reach the nail, with the plastic safety guard still attached so we were able to use a tool it came with to remove that stone and replace it with one alittle bigger! The package comes with about 5 replacements and a buffing tool! My cat wanted no parts of this whatsoever but the instructions say it can be used on cats as well! Overall we love it, but unless your pet is very relaxed and comfortable with a buzzing noise, it might take some coaxing and warming up to the tool before really being able to use it!.

I absolutely love this nail grinder from Conair! My dog HATES getting his nails trimmed/filed, HATES anyone touching his paws and REALLY HATES any kind of loud noises. This gringer is very quiet and although he didn’t let me use it in him right away, I spent a few minutes while it was turned on and let him inspect it (sniff it, look at it, listen to it LOL) after 5 minutes or so, he allowed me to gently grab his paws and use it on his nails.

I liked the way it fit in my hand and the fact that it was light weight. The safety guard really came in handy too because hes bery hyper active and he moved around quite a bit. It’s very powerful and got every single nail on both his paws to the length I wanted.

I have wasted years on other, more expensive nail files and none worked as good as this one. If you groom your pets at home, this is a must-have! (I received this product free from Influenster in exchange for my honest opinion).

I purchased these because the ones I was using were just fraying my cat’s nails. That being said, they arrived and I had no immediate use for them (I had just done my cat’s nails), so I took them to my work (veterinary hospital) to try out on pets in the hospital.

They work great and now I’m back for more pairs. Much better than the ones we can order through the veterinary exclusive market.

I use one of these everyday when I’m grooming dogs. I bought one for home too. This works so well on cats and dog nails that aren’t too big. It is easier for me to use than any other clipper I’ve tried, and seems safer to not get the quick.

Great price too.

As a dog trainer I’m used to using a dremel at work and bought this version as just a back up at home for my own dogs (2 poms, a keeshond, a GSD, and a crested for different size references). This paw control version of the dremel is pretty awful quality and lasted less than a year.

It’s also gone up significantly in price in that time. Yes, it takes most dogs a while to become used to the dremel feeling and sound so for most people this is going to be a slow process that typically ends up being worth it- if you have a better version of a dremel.

This started off quiet and would hold charge for all of my dogs. I’ve used this dremel maybe once or twice a month and after maybe 6 months it is extremely loud on every setting and only holds charge for 2 of my smaller dogs or just for my GSD.

The guard is an absolute joke for all sizes of dogs but especially my smallest 6-10 lb pups. There is a 2 year warranty but after you pay to ship it back, you might as well buy a whole new one.

This is my 3rd Dremel for nail grinding in the 20+ years I’e had dogs. First was corded, 2nd was an earlier version of this. I have a basset hound with very thick wolf nails! I have been using the grinder without the clear guard, I”m finding it easier that way.

For dogs with thinner nails, or cats(?) the guard probably would work as well. What I like about this product: Cordless. 4 speeds (avoid the high speed). Sanding band or disc option. Much easier to avoid cutting the quick than a clipper, even with black nails.

And unlike some of the other nail grinding products on here you can use this for other Dremel uses! Hints:Just take a bit off at a time until your dog gets used to it, watch some videos online on how to do it, and do it outside so that the dust from grinding dissipates if you are using it without the guard.

I leave her leash on, step on it to keep her from trying to walk off.

I have used this about half a dozen times since I purchased it a few weeks ago. I like it very much, so far. Since my Aussies are Toy size (20 and 25 lbs) I do not use the guard. I use the barrel shaped sanding attachment and it works great.

I have used a Pedi Paws for many years and it is too bulky, chews through C batteries and it takes too long to do the job due to RPMS not high enough. Really glad I found this. I have been thinking about using my regular Dremel tool but the cord is always in the way doing dog nails.

I wish it came with several barrel replacement heads. The Pedi Paws provided so many that I have never run out of them. A side benefit. I decided to use it on my calluses on my feet. IT WORKS WAY BETTER THAN THE PRODUCTS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR HUMANS.

These nail trimmers are great! I had a pair of the “standard” kind and was always scared when I used them. I know how to find the quick and I know where to cut, but standard trimmers were bulky (making it harder to see and handle).

These trimmers are so easy to use and handle. I’ve also noticed these trimmers seem to have less “force” when trimming (ex – the difference between getting a piercing with a piercing gun vs having a professional pierce with a needle by hand).

These trimmers are nice and sharp and result in a much easier and smoother cut as compared to standard trimmers. I’m so glad I got these!.

I’ve had 4 chihuahuas over 20+ years and I’ve always trimmed their nails myself. I’ve tried many different kinds/devices/brands, and these are the BEST I’ve EVER used!! My first time using them, I said, “WOW” after each nail.

They cut super smoothly, cleanly, comfortably, and easily. The dogs struggled less because the blades are so sharp they don’t feel the pinching sensation that other clippers sometimes create. Other clippers sometimes leave ragged nails that end up splitting/peeling later on.

These are so precise and the cut is super clean! Do yourself and your pets a favor and get these from the start. I wish I had found these sooner!.

I used to buy cheap clippers and had to constantly keep buying them because they dulled out very quickly. It made clipping my cats nails harder since they wouldn’t cut and would snag when cutting. So I invested in buying these clippers that cost a lot more than I usually pay for and they’re amazing!! They cut like butter, so precise and makes the process quicker.

I always used the traditional manual nail trimmers in my dogs. I noticed that my last dog was uncomfortable during trims. I decided to try a dremel since I was starting introducing a puppy to nail clipping anyway.

I did clip the traditional way for a year and then switched over to the electric dremel. She was already used to trimmer and scissors during grooming so she did adapt very quickly to the dremel. I let her get used to the sound and feeling of it in her nails.

Lots of treats and maybe used it once every few weeks in the beginning. Sje now gets a nail touch up every one to two weeks to keep them looking great. She never has a long nail and never feels discomfort during nail trims.

We just sit in the recliner and she lays in her back while I do each toe. She is a tiny dog and I use the small wheel. I bought the replacement pack as well but it takes a long time before you need to change the sanding disc.

A great product. It isn’t too loud but I recommend letting a dog get used to it before touching it to their nails. Start with it off first and take your time introducing them so they will never be afraid or nervous to hear or see it.

I think it is easier for a younger dog to get used to new things like a dremel. It is easy for the dog to have nails trimmed this way because they will not bleed or be trimmed too short. You can see the blood vessel start to show before you ever get close enough to cause it to bleed.

Very easy to hold and I like the rubber grip to keep a secure hold on the unit. Make sure you tie any long hair back before using it as well. It can grab hair on your head or the dogs of it is long and in the way.

A great product that I highly recommend as an essential grooming tool.

I\’ve only used it once and love it. My dog HATES getting his claws clipped. He always puts up a fight with us and is always a hassle. So I bought this hoping it would help. IF ONLY I BOUGHT THIS YEARS AGO!! I\’ve only used this once so far but my dog didn\’t fight me at all when I used this to trim down his claws.

I removed a star because this trimmer heats up pretty quickly and I don\’t know if that\’ll cause it to be less durable. may update later on the more I use it.

I am just an amateur dog owner hoping hoping to cheap out from paying $20 a month for my dog\’s nail grinding appointment. First try, it worked for my nail-cutter-fearing dog. Granted, I did take some precautions to familiarize her with the grinder, but it\’s definitely much easier to use.

Pros: apparently not as scary for my dog, multiple size grinders for course and fine grind, easy to use Cons: for those that want a nail guard, this kit does not come with one.

I personally was thrilled to get this pet mail trimmer, for several reasons. My large dog needed hers done badly and I was always terrified to trim them myself because God forbid I cut them too deep, I would feel awful and so would she for separate reasons, lol!! I would’ve taken her to the vet but she hates going there since she got spayed.

When I found out about this mail grinder it was like it was meant for me…or, at least people like me. Now, I can trim her nails any time I was and I don’t feel anxious at all. The only problem is that she does have thicker nails and the grinder takes a while to get her nails down t where I want them, and obviously that takes time.

She doesn’t like to sit still that long so I find that she tries to get away right in the middle of her mani, lol. It would just be better if the mechanism drilled her nails down fast, so I didn’t have to spend my one day off worrying about her nails.

I don’t leave reviews on things very often. BUT. This definitely deserves it. I have a ton of trouble cutting my hound mixes nails. It’s a knock down drag out every time and it usually ends in only 2 or 3 nails being cut before she’s tucked tail and hid.

THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING. I get the case out and she automatically rolls over on her belly. Ive gotten it down to taking me about 20 minutes for front and back paws and it is a literal breeze. The noise and vibration is nothing like the other systems I’ve used before, which has definitely helped my baby for sure.

This wahl 2in 1 nail grinder is great for all of my pets. Especially if you’re nervous about trimming with clippers or have a nervous pet. I personally use a nail trimmer on my dogs and follow up with the wahl grinding tool for a nice smooth finish.

This tool does not seem to overheat and cause burning as other tools I’ve tried. This tool is less noisy which puts any pet at ease. The different grade tips are easy to attach and switch from rough to smooth and have perfect sizing for your pets paw size needs.

If you’re a first time user I recommend patience and understanding with your fur baby. Let them smell it and do only what he or she can tolerate in a sitting. Making the experience fun and positive will increase your success and love of the wahl 2 in 1 nail grinder.

Its a good product in theory but its too weak for my french bulldogs claws, unfortunately. I couldnt even finish because it would take too long and youre only supposed to use it for 5 sec per claw. (and I did way more than that because nothing happened).

Much quicker to just use a file instead.

Well this has been a massive life saver for us! Our dog – Barney is absolutely petrified by anything touching his paws, mainly his front ones, we have taken him a few times to get his claws clipped and the stress is unbearable.

Thought I’d give this grinder a go as last resort before sedation and Oh my days!! At first he was a little nervous but he allowed me to do it!! He is still a little more reluctant with his front claws but I’m absolutely over the moon that we found this.

Tried a battery grinder, which wasn’t up to the task. This wahl set is wicked. Really works well and allows you to keep on top of claw maintenance. It’s a little noisy but what you get inntrade off is a fast effective grinder with multipurpose attachments that work.

I’m really pleased with this purchase. It’s made keeping our large puppies claws short, neat and rounded off easy. If you have a medium to large dog this is the one. For a cat or tiny dog maybe a battery one could work but the two grinders are totally different levels of grinding.

Have had this nail grinder for several years and use it all the time. It is quite quiet and takes the nail down easily. I have even started using it on my own toenails as I have become disabled and cannot reach to cut my tails myself now.

This has been a lifesaver. My two labradoodles have black claws which never wear down. Because the claws are black I can’t see where the quick is and over the last few years there have been several unfortunate accidents which resulted in my dogs and I being terrified whenever I got the clippers out! This grinder is wonderful – for the first time in ages their nails are nearly a normal length.

It did take the dogs a little while to get used to the noise and vibration but I used a lot of treats at first and now they’re fine. Three cautions though: 1. It is a little tricky to put together at first but persevere.

2. If your dog has long hair on its feet, as mine have, make sure to try and keep it out of the way of the grinder – it can get caught and 3. Only use it in short bursts (one or two seconds) as the nail can get very hot.

I think the last two points are mentioned in the instructions. To sum up; this is much better than I thought it would be and I just wish I’d got one a long time ago (and so do my dogs).

I’ve been grooming for 28 years and have used a few different nail grinders. I love this grinder because its so quiet and is great for scared dogs or introducing nail filing to a nervous puppy. It is not very strong, meaning if you press the nail too firmly onto the filing stone, it will just stop.

But I also believe if you’re pressing that hard that it stops than you’re just pressing too hard. In that sense I feel like it forces the groomer to let the file do the work and by doing so you don’t create the friction from filing that can be painful.

I usually clip nails as short as I can and then use this file to round out the edges and make it look pretty. The stone has a curve to it that helps you create a smooth rounded nail. I usually charge this file at the end of the week and depending on my days, the charge could last a whole week.

My pomchi hated getting his nails clipped, and no matter how careful I was it would always pinch his nails. The grinder works beautifully. Within a couple hours he was letting me grind away, no pain, no fighting.

He also has two nails that grow quite curved and cutting them properly was so difficult. I just finished grinding it perfectly. Nice and quiet, and the grinder doesn’t hurt even if it touches the skin.

I’ve had several nail grinders over the years both battery powered and electric and this one is one of the best ones I’ve had. It’s whisper quite witch is a plus for my small dogs who sometimes get nervous with the loud noise of the other grinders I’ve used.

The safety cap is nice so you dont have the whole stone exposed and it lessens the chance of hair getting tangled up in it too and keeps the stone in place also witch is something my higher priced dremel dosen’t have.

It works well on my small dogs however I can’t say how well it would work on bigger dogs with more thicker nails though. Bottom line it works well for me and the cost was pretty reasonable too.

After trying many different brands of nail clippers for my cats, I decided to try these that say they are for dogs OR cats. These are the best! They clip cleanly, through “old cat thick nails” and the cats aren’t afraid of them.

They are a bit bigger than normal cat claw clippers but I am very happy with them!.

I bought these because the scissor kinds are not great on my arthritic hands, but I’m returning them. These are huge! I imagine they’d work just fine for dog nails, but for kitten nails it was really bulky and hard to see where I was cutting.

Even worse, the blades are dull so when I did cut it left their nails rough and broken. Going to try a guillotine style clipper instead.

I bought these after trying flimsier nail clippers on my big dog (Great Dane mix) that just didn’t work. These clippers are great, they cut through the nails with just one pass. I also really like the guard that prevents you from cutting the nail too short.

The grinder is very quiet and has little vibration. The guard allowed me to do my puppy’s nails without fear of accidentally getting her pads. I could take the guard off for my larger dog whose nails do not fit in the guard holes.

By the time I finished with one paw the dog had relaxed, and my puppy actually fell asleep while I did her nails.

We have 3 crazy dogs and live in the middle of nowhere. In order to take them to a groomer, it’s a whole production and we have to take each one separately in order to be able to keep control of them.

This is super easy to use, and it’s great to be able to do this from home and not have to go through all that. I also have 1 75# baby, and she IS a baby when it comes to her nails. She usually fights anyone even wanting to touch her toes, but with this she doesn’t mind at all! I guess maybe you can teach an old dog a new trick lol.

I really like this nail grinder! The LED light is perfect to make sure youre not getting too close, the guard is removable, the heads are easy to switch, and the two settings is great. Its much more lightweight than i expected and I’m glad that i dont have to worry about getting tangled in a cord! Since it takes AA batteries, i can always make sure its ready to go rather than having to wait for a recharge.

I always get so nervous trimming my dogs nails with regular dog clippers since I’m scared I’ll cut the quick. I usually just have the dog groomer do it, but I wanted something to help maintain in between grooming appointments since his nails grow faster.

This nail grinder has been a blessing. It’s so easy to use and my dog doesn’t mind it too much since it’s pretty quiet and there are no cords that he can get tangled in.

I rescued a new dog and she was terrified of the nail grinder that I used on my Golden Retriever. I did some research and decided to purchase this based on great reviews, cost, and the promise that it was quiet it wouldn’t terrify dogs.

When it arrived I charged it and was ready to test it out. Now, it isn’t silent, but it’s very quiet compared to what I was previously using on my dog (which sounded like an industrial belt sander). My girl was a little nervous at first bc she sensed I was about to do something to her paws.

I turned it on and she cocked her head to the side and gently leaned it to give it a good sniff. when I touched her nail she scrambled to get away but after having my friend hold her, give her pets and treats I was able to successfully grind ALL her nails with no problem.

I’ve since used the grinder with no issues all by myself. My sweet girl was only a little concerned the first time, but after she realized there was no harm and she got LOTS of love, belly rubs and treats afterwards she was totally on board for her Paw-dicures.

I would definitely recommend and I’m very happy I took a chance on purchasing this product.

The Petdiary was recommended to me by a groomer. Once I received the Dremel from Chewy, I made sure to read all of the directions. I let my little dog look at it and sniff it. I then turned on the lowest setting and let her look at it again so that she would be more comfortable.

She was a bit hesitant at first but I held her securely as I picked up each nail, making sure to move the hair away from the nail. I spoke softly to her as I was trimming her nails and I kept encouraging her.

I also had some treats available to help distracting her as I was trimming her nails. It is VERY IMPORTANT to use the trimmer no more than 3 seconds or so at a time per nail. The nail heats up very quickly and can get too hot so it’s best to take your time and keep moving back and forth between the nails so that each nail has a chance to cool down.

In all, I found the Dremel very easy to use and, when used correctly, it does a great job of gently trimming your pet’s nails. Just remember this might be stressful for your pet so you may have to have more than one nail trimming session but I found that is better than upsetting the pet and making her or him fearful and distrustful of you.

I order from chewy probably 2 times a month for meds and a toy and I am a frequent food auto-ship and never have had an issue I do love ordering from Chewy, it’s not you directly. I needed a strong clipper.

The one I have used for years had finally broken, this didn’t even make it through one dog nail and I know my dogs nails are pretty thick but this was the same style as the other one. I was not going to buy a different brand than the last but honestly I just needed something to add to get the free shipping.

It was a mistake honestly, this didn’t even work through one nail and the spring is already broken. Fully disappointed and wish I didn’t pay for this junk.

I have been buying this same nail clipper for years. When Foster & Smith was selling it, it was green and a very sharp nail clipper. Soon Chewy had the same clipper, but it was yellow and not as sharp.

I just purchased two last week. They are so dull, I can hardly cut my golden retrievers nails. It pinches the nail, instead of cutting. It seems like the manufacturer is cutting corners and not making the same quality nail clipper, that they used to.

I’ve had this product for at least 1 year and I’ve had no issues with them. We have 4 dogs, 3 bulldogs with softer nails and 1 Airedale mix with very tough nails and it gets through them all great! I also enjoy that there’s no loud clicks when you’re cutting the nails so even the ones who hate their nails clipped sit better (they still hate it but they’re better).

Would 100% purchase again.

I bought this to grind down my Great Pyrenees/Mastiff’s talons, as he is absolutely terrified of the regular clippers. He was not afraid of this grinder though, but still not fond of having his paws touched.

I got all 12 rear nails done with ease and this grinder held up to the challenge of the thick and large claws that he has, though he has yet to let me touch the front paws. I would recommend this grinder for dogs of all sizes and the higher setting is great for a quick job when dealing with a big baby like mine.

The lower price and the fact that is cordless also makes this product stand out from others.

Worked great on my German shepherds nails! Only downside is there’s way too much dust that escapes and blows right in your face. Needing to return. Would purchase again if there was a design change to keep more of the dust within the nail guard.

It would’ve been perfect , definite lifesaver and great alternative then always taking the dog to get their nails trimmed.

These are great nail clippers. They can be used on big or small dogs. It does have a nail guard on it but you still have to be very careful not to cut the quick. (It’s common to accidentally cut – Apply styptic powder if you accidentally cut, pressing a cloth, holding pressure til it stops).

These are a little bit different than typical nail clippers but I find this style easier to use to cut through the nail. The dogs find it more comfortable because it easily slices the nails, instead of fighting with it to cut through large nails.

I think it’s easier to hold/grip while also trying to control the dog. These are my preferred nail clippers out of any I’ve used. (My dogs HATE the kind that grinds nails most traditional aren’t made for big dogs).

Overall a great-looking product. Probably perfect for dogs. I Searched Chewy for “Kitten Nail Clipper” and this came up. but I would not recommend for cats or kittens. Although the product says for dogs and cats, I would recommend a different product for all cats.

Because the adjustable nail guide obstructs view, it’s almost impossible to see the nail while trimming, making it very difficult to avoid the nerve (since the cat’s nail is too small for the nail guide to be useful).

This is a very large clipper, again not making it a good fit for tiny cat nails. more likely a good cigar trimmer.

This is the worst thing I have spent money on. There is nothing sharp about this. I bought this thinking Furminator was a good name. It is defective in design. Not only not a sharp edge really no edge at all.

Like trying to cut something with the scissors put together backwards. No tapered edge. It is packaged in a way that doesn’t show this at all. Beware. Not good for your hand. Not good for your dogs nails.

I Absolutely Love Oster Pet Professional, Oster Gentle Paws Nail Grinder for my Dogs. It’s the Best Gentle Nail Grinder out their for Dogs Nails! It doesn’t stress them out at all when grinding their nails.

It also comes with three different texture of files to use on your dog’s nails. It doesn’t fray, crack, or chip their nails either when grinding their nails. My dogs absolutely love it. They love it much better than when they get their nails trimmed.

I prefer to use the nail grinder then to trim their nails. And I think it goes much faster when I grind their nails. I don’t have to worry about grinding their nails too short or have to worry about when they cut their nails too short either and make them bleed.

I love the gentle nail grinder and so will you. You won’t regret it. My friends and family love the gentle nail grinder also.

I like this gentle paw nail grinder. It’s relatively quiet compared to other models out there (between my sister and I, we’ve tried a bunch for our dogs). I like that it’s cordless, bc otherwise, I feel like it would be impossible to use.

The battery placement is a little confusing, but I do like that the lid shuts tightly. It’s easy to hold, and comfortable in your hand. I’ve tried to use this on my dog several times, even after giving her a million treats, it feels like- but she just does not like the vibration very much.

I’ll be able to get one, maybe 2 nails done and then she is done with it and jumps up and runs off. It’s been a painstaking process to try to get them all done. I do think this is gentler and easier than using the dog nail clippers, so I would recommend it.

I love this ! It’s cordless with makes it super convenient to use on my pup that won’t hold still. It also has a nail collection area that is easy to empty and super convenient , no clean up ! This takes four AA batteries.

It includes a grinding drum and medium and fine sanding bands. It also has a safety guard so you can make sure you aren’t hurting your pet. There is a LED guide the light to help you see better. This was so easy to use and it was not loud ! It was pretty quiet and my pup was not scared.

This is also very comfortable to hold , easy to navigate and very gentle on your animals nails. I absolutely love this nail grinder !.

Trimming dogs nails has been a necessary chore for the more-than-30-years I’ve had Schnauzers, but I’ve never developed a knack for doing it easily. My 4-year-old male has NEVER been happy about having his feet worked on, regardless of treats.

The 1-1/2-year-old female cooperates if treats are available. ,The Poobies nail grinder is one of the best options I’ve tried. ,1. Compared to previously used, Dremel grinders, the Poobies Dog Nail Grinder with LED Light is significantly quieter and generates less noise/vibration while working on my dog’s nails.

As a result, they don’t try to get away from it as much, a big plus because I’m spending less time coaxing them to come back to me. ,2. Although I usually deep-trim the hair in their pads monthly to remove/prevent a build-up of crud & odors, dense regrowth hides their nails.

With scissor-type trimmers, I have to trim enough hair and have the dog in the right position to see what I’m doing, or I’ll sometimes cut into the quick, drawing blood. The dog is then usually ‘done’ for the day, and I feel bad about it.

Using the Poobies I don’t need to be as careful. ,3. When using nail clippers, even if I have the pet’s nail in ‘exactly the right position’ to cut, I still can’t see exactly how close I am to the quick.

With this grinder, I can. Visibility with the ‘guarded’ Dremel was better, but still not good. ,4. Many people believe it’s impossible to cause pain with a grinding-type trimmer. Untrue, at least for me.

I tried to be careful when trimming, but the abrasive tubes used with the Dremel were fairly coarse, allowing fast removal of nail substance, again sometimes invading the quick. Occasionally, I moved too slow, allowing heat to build up.

Either way, unhappy dog. The diamond abrasive on the Poobies is less coarse, offering more control over how fast material is removed. ,5. Battery life is adequate I trimmed 8 paws without problem.

Recharge time was about 3 hrs, but that wasn’t done from a fully depleted battery. ,6. A grinding guard (prevent nail material from flying into your eyes) isn’t provided. In my opinion, that’s an improvement to the Dremel because of less interference to my vision.

I wouldn’t use one if available. I’m sure OSHA will be be unhappy with my opinion, but pfffssttt to government interference in too many aspects of my life. I do, however, support CV masking & distancing.

,In summary, the Poobies requires less pre-trimming work (hair removal), a little less attention to avoid pain to the dog, offers more control and visibility to the job, requires less time because I have more confidence about what’s happening, and finally, both the dogs and I are happier with the results – and the stypic powder goes back to the bathroom.

,The next step is to convince my wife. She does the grooming for both dogs, and like me, learned to distrust the Dremel grinder, reverting to scissor-type trimmers, which leave nails a little longer than we like.

THIS HAS BEEN A LIFE SAVER. I tried a different dremel on my new puppy (after some desensitization with it, at the time she was maybe 2 or 3 months old) and she was 100% afraid of it from the noise and vibration, goodness I had so many scrapes and scratches from trying to hold her down.

Both of us left that nail session a bit sour and sad. I took her to the vet so they could deal with her while I mustered up some courage to try again with a different tool. ,Tried the clippers, and my inexperienced, peasant-self hit the quick on her so I had to get her used to me touching her paws AGAIN (lots of treats after touching her paws).

I ordered it and put it up to the test after about 2 or 3 weeks of desensitization (touch paw, treats for a couple of days.

Then FINALLY trimmin’ the nails with the dremel, each claw getting a high reward treat, when she was about 5 months old. Could’ve started sooner. ) She didn’t event flinch!! This was also after going to the dog park and playing for 45 minutes or so, she was super tired which helped.

,The light is kind of weirdly placed so you can’t really see the quick while you’re trimming. You can use the light at different angles to see the quick and then trim. Still not a problem at all. ,ANYWAY.

I grind my dog’s nails about once a month, give or take. I’ve only had this thing since the end of October, so after about 6 or 7 uses, the battery will no longer hold a charge. As this battery is integrated into the device there is no easy way to replace it, ergo, this thing is now little more than a paperweight.

,After leaving it on the charger for an entire day, I attempted to use the nail grinder today. It ceased to function in less than 60 seconds. Do I feel like I got my 30 bucks worth out of it? Maybe. But all the same, for anything like this a 6 month lifespan is insane.

Before anyone hits me with standard battery troubleshooting like “Did you leave it on the charger all the time, that ruins batteries you know. ” I never stored it on the charger, and would only charge it up shortly before I was going to use it.

Aside from the last attempt where I did indeed leave it on the charger for a full 24 hours (in a deliberate attempt to see if the battery was simply charging slowly, as there is no battery status indicators on the device), this thing lived in my “dog go bag” until it was needed.

I tried both the charger it shipped with, and a Samsung phone block as it charges off a USB-B charger. ,So yeah, really disappointed in the lifespan of this product. Aside from that, functinally (while it functioned), it is a good device.

It did its job, the light helped me aim and see the quick in my dog’s nails, so I never quicked him with this thing. He doesn’t like the noise it makes, but he’s a good boy so he deals with it, and it *is not* a loud tool.

What should you take from this? Well, the device is basically a chinese knockoff dremel tool. It works in exactly the same way. So, grab a rotary tool from your preferred hardware shop, and use that instead.

It will certainly outlast this thing.

Several problems with this item: First, the back of the box refers to an “included manual” with instructions for use and for cleaning. There is no included manual, so one is left to try to figure this out oneself.

That’s not an easy process. The Nail Grinder is not intuitive. Second problem: the noise. I wonder if anyone actually tested this product with actual cats. My cat is generally easy going, cooperative, and compliant.

However, I couldn’t even get near him with the Nail Grinder. As soon as I switched it on, he became terrified. His eyes got as big as saucers and all four paws started spinning into action. Maybe other cats will respond differently, but I was not about to torture my poor little guy.

This nail grinder is fantastic but my cats wouldn’t agree. I loved that you could insert one nail at a time into the grinder and the cap collects all of the dust. I’m always worried about clipping my cat’s nails but this tool has taken away my concerns.

It’s a lot safer than clipping and although my cats didn’t enjoy it I felt much more at ease and their nails looked great after. I did need assistance as wrestling a cat and trying to take care of their nails is a two person job.

The noise from the grinder scared my cats a little bit so I made sure they got used to it before continuing with their nails. Overall, I’m very pleased with this product!.
