20 Best Cat Puzzle Feeder (2022 Updated)

My cat looks forward to his puzzle every evening. He’s such a piggy boy with his food. I have halved the amount of dry food he gets in the morning & the rest goes into his puzzle in the evening a couple of hours after he has dinner.

I like that it lays flat on the floor. He’s a big strong cat, if it were a tall puzzle, I think he’d knock it over. This would have to be one of the best things I’ve bought for him. It’s easy to clean as well.

My cats eat dry food exclusively from puzzle feeders so I have a lot of them. This is a great puzzle feeder that’s easier than it looks for cats. My cats will completely empty this in half an hour if they’re feeling dedicated.

I appreciate that the green sections are easily removed to make the whole thing easy to clean as food crumbs build up in the corners. I think this would be really good for kittens.

My cat used to inhale his dry food then demand more. This obstacle course keeps him busy for much longer. It’s challenging but not impossible. It’s a bit light – it does move around a bit while he’s trying to get things out.

I’ve blu-tacked it down which works for a while. But it’s working really well in terms of slowing down his feeding and keeping him entertained.

Bought this for the 4 kitties we have, loving the distributed feeding aspect so they each have their own place. I did not realize that the distance from the edge of the tunnels to the side of the platform were so close.

So cats have to either gets their face super scrunched up and get in there, or pull it onto the floor. Cats get whisker fatigue and I really didn’t like this for them since getting tired and hurt would make them less prone to eat.

The best option for your cat is a large pie bowl that is elevated. I set mine on a planter stool & it’s perfect so the cats don’t have to bend over either. I did not have the lid issue everyone else had.

It’s well built, just not suitable if you want your cat to eat.

Our two cats (ages 4 & 9) easily and quickly figured out how to use the TRIXIE. We use it only for dry treats because they eat canned food which this is not designed for. The TRIXIE does slow their eating because the dry food must be pulled out of each lower compartment by paw.

It is easier for me to place the bites directly into the lower compartments without every removing the lid/top compartment because all the food instantly drops to the bottom slots anyway. I would give it 5 stars if it were a bit more difficult for our cats to use.

We bought this to try and slow down our cat from wolfing her dry food. And then throwing it up. We figured the time it takes to pull it out and then eat it would help. At first she had no idea what it was or how to use it.

I would put food in as she watched and she would do her usual excited circle stalk but completely ignore it. I would reach down and rattle some food to the ends of the tunnels and same thing. It was like “if you’re not going to make it easy for me I’m not going to do this” So I left it there but didn’t give her any dry food that day hoping she would go for it.

Not! The next day I mentioned the word treat which she know well. I put several in the feeder and again nothing. I was beginning to think she was brain dead. I then gave her a treat by hand. When she came back for more I put one on the tray which she ate.

She was by then looking for more. I put one in the tunnel and it was like she had no idea again. I then put several at the entrances of each tunnel and left them there. Did not give any dry food for several days.

One night while sleeping I woke up to her munching. For weeks after that she only would reach for what was easy but eventually she would reach in pull one out and eat from anywhere there was food. It slowed her down and she has become quite adept at figuring out how to get at even the hardest to reach pieces as the food eventually disappears.

She doesn’t eat as much and takes more time between pieces. Mission accomplished.

I have 2 precocious Bengals – one is just under a year and the other is 2 1/2. Keeping them busy after their meal while I’m making OUR meal is difficult – they seem to have SO MUCH energy in the evening! I needed something that would challenge BOTH of them – simultaneously – while I get things done.

This is exactly what I needed. They can both search for “treats” (I use dehydrated treats in the challenging bits and dental chews and kibble in the easiest bits). This keeps them both occupied for a long time.

The REAL bonus is that they both have their favorite “treats,” so they’ll skip over the parts that have what they don’t like, allowing the other to get in there. They actually circle the toy several times while working to get every morsel out.

I can hear them later (usually around 1am) each checking to make sure the other didn’t miss something wonderful. I clean it up each morning and keep it on the counter, ready for the next day’s catventure.

I’ve never paid so little for so much peace and quiet! NOTE: Visitors are amazed that my “kitten” will flip the leaf to the side, slide the ladybug over a hole and back again (EXTREMELY fast) to get her treat.

She’s a pro (as is her brother – but he’s much larger and a little slower since he has to use his paws to grab the treats and she can just dive in – – nose first. ).

Env: development I purchased this for my big neutered tom cat, as a way to help him work off some of his pudge, and it really does seem to help. I load up the ball with food or a couple of treats, and let him bat it around and chase his dinner rather than sitting down to a food bowl where he just inhales his meal.

This product has several holes in it, and you can select how big or small you want the holes to be (to make it easier or harder for the cat, depending on the situation). I like to challenge my cat, and he seems to really like working for his food.

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of his food rattling around in the ball as he bats it around. I also have a smaller ball that was made by purina that has just one hole in it, which I typically use for treats only because it is not big enough to fit much food in.

This ball is a nice size to accomodate enough food for a meal. My cat did actually lose a little weight when I switched to feeding him in this versus a bowl. Try it! Env: development.

Env: development I have to be honest when I say that I have a true love / loathe relationship with the Multivet SlimCat Cat Toy. I love it because it is really entertaining to watch. I also love it because this is not only for cats.

I have a ferret who chases the thing just about every chance he gets. It is a very simple way to keep your pet not only entertained but also fit and healthy. It helps me to feel like I am a good pet parent.

The reason I loath the Multivet SlimCat Cat Toy is simply this: The food and snacks fall out and are spread all around everywhere when your cat starts to swat and chase it. It drives me crazy to keep stepping on and crunching up cat food or treats into my carpet.

With every swat, another crunchy deposit of cat food in some random area on your floor. Other than that though, it is a very fun and reasonably priced toy that is entertaining for both – the pet and the pet parent.

At first I thought my cats could not figure it out so I only tried it once or twice and then didnt try again for a few weeks. I am glad I gave them another shot because one of them finally figured out what to do (the other one is getting there).

It is good way to occupy a little bit of time and make them work for treats or kibble.

WE LOVE THIS PRODUCT. We have a Maine coon who is beyond food. Obsessed. When we first adopted him and fed him in a bowl he would scarf and barf and immediately start begging for food again. We do a few different types of slow feeders for him now but this remains his favorite.

Gets exercise, eats less at a time, and wakes up less at night. We have 3 of them because yes they do get lost/stuck under furniture which can be annoying because we feed him at 3am but keeping a few in rotation solves this issue.

Easily rolls from our hardwood onto carpet. It took him probably a couple weeks to get the hang of it and it’s been almost a year now he is really good at keeping the ball in one place and just rolling it in circles(when he was first learning we had a lot more issues with it going under furniture).

He loves it and we love that it keeps him stimulated throughout the day.

I bought this feeder in the hopes it would keep my mostly indoor cats from overeating and getting overweight (as I feared one was heading in that direction!). Our male cat, who is very clever, picked up how to use this feeder ball within minutes.

Our girl cat, who is sweet and gentle, had to be shown and also to watch her brother. She then easily got the hang of it. There are several different settings to change the size of the holes that the food falls out of, which works really well for adjusting it to be easier or more difficult for the kitties to get food out (and I use cat food that consists of really small bits and it still works great, they don’t fall out too fast).

Its much more mentally stimulating for them to eat now, and slows them down, and keeps them from eating out of boredom. It also keeps my dog from sneaking in and eating the cat food which used to just be in bowls.

Bonus is that its so fun to watch them eat now as they bat the ball around and snatch up the bits as they fall out. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product!.

I think all pet owners to some degree know that their pet is a little annoying, I know I at least do. My cat was very whiney for food, attacking my chair, and biting on my erasers. She is a very sweet, kind, and does not have a mean bone in her body.

Shes like if a dog were put into a cat body, so she does need a little more attention than the average aloof cat. This is so great for entertaining your kitty. I was somewhat skeptical she would even know how to use this, the only con is finding the ball when I feed her twice a day, but its not a big deal at all.

Since this ball, she is not nearly as hungry throughout the day.

Very disappointed. Contrary to what some others have said here, this feeder does NOT help with scarf and barf. The only difference it’s made is that now my cat is also tossing her food all over the carpet before eating it.

The small circular mat that fits around the base of the bowl is far too narrow in diameter to catch any of the food that falls out. Almost every scoop of food she gets out of the green cups on top gets launched at least 6 inches away onto the floor before she eats it, making cleanup even harder than it was with just a normal bowl, as now there are crumbs and vomit everywhere.

Not to mention it’s really just dispersed her puking. Now she’ll vomit a few separate times per meal instead of just one, causing even more of a headache. It makes life more difficult for both cat and human.

Awful waste of money.

This dish solved our cat’s puking problem caused by gulping her food. She was a rescue and has issues with eating too fast. She HATES this new dish and usually walks away in protest after we put her treats in it but after a bit, she comes back and digs out all her treats, sometimes over a period of an hour.

She would prefer if we threw this in the garbage and let her go back to happily gobbling her treats but WE are happy with the product. We also tried other types of dishes that had mazes built-in but this is the only one she will tolerate.

A design improvement would be to get rid of the rubber ring around the base and just have non-slip feet. It would look nicer and doesn’t really serve a purpose that non-stick feet wouldn’t solve. I think our cat hates stepping on it.

I might take it off and make something custom for it. Definitely worth the purchase if you have a puker in the house!.

I’ve used this for over a year and it’s pretty good. My cat got the hang of it quickly. The plastic feels durable. Not sure if you’re *supposed* to put it in the dishwasher, but I have multiple times and it was fine haha.

The green cups are useful as a food scoop. I haven’t had issues with my cat pulling the cups out, they actually fit so tightly that I really have to work to get them out haha especially if crumbs build up.

DRAWBACKS: Most of these are small notes, overall I like the product a lot. It takes up a lot of space and it is a little noisy when he eats compared to a normal bowl, so it might not be good to put in your bedroom.

The rubber mat has never been able to lie flat. it still does the job OK but kibble gets caught under it so I have to check underneath often. NOTE: This might not be good for kittens or cats with smaller paws I noticed when my cat was younger, he could scoop out a lot of kibble at once and scatter it.

Now that his paws are bigger, he can only get a little food out at a time, so it works much better.

Highly quality, durable design. So much fun for both of us. I think my 65 pound one year old golden grand puppy could have played with this all afternoon but he would have gotten a tummy ache from too many treats.

KJ has a large vocabulary & will comply with somewhat complex commands (IF he feels like it) but this toy was a whole new set of skills. It challenged him intellectually and got him to focus his teenage brain (which isn’t easy.

) He had to figure out how to manipulate the pieces for the rewards & persist despite intermittent frustration. I used the small, soft Blue Buffalo training treats in the cubbies. The first round a couple were in each one just to give him a chance to learn how to move the pieces to reveal them and experience success.

Despite his initial attempts to use brute force and teeth to remove the cups, the toy did not break. Soon he learned to use his nose & tongue to gently push the cover aside. (His paws are much too big.

) For the second round, I filled only one spot on each row and he did not enjoy that game as much, he looked at the empty cubbies and then looked at me so disappointed and confused. In the third round there was one in each cubby with a couple of “jackpot” cubbies with more.

(This would be an entertaining doggie game show I would watch, LOL!) KJ was engaged for an entire hour and would have kept playing if the treats had kept coming. I have to figure out some lower calorie prizes for the cubbies, maybe frozen blueberries? Anyway, REALLY sturdy, cute and loved that the covers do not come off.

Probably beginner level for some pups but had it been anymore difficult I think he would have become frustrated and lost interest. It was just right for him. We had a ball. Engaged, smiling, building our relationship.

Very pleased with this purchase.

I specifically chose this toy because it looked simple. Mallone isn’t very food motivated, so I was worried he’d give up on something too challenging. He ended up figuring it out really quickly, and now he gets excited when he sees me take it out.

I maybe could have gotten him something more challenging for him, but that’s certainly not the toy’s fault. It’s well made, and I like that it’s all one piece so there’s no chance of things getting lost.

My 4yo niece is also a fan of this toy because she likes filling the compartments and helping “Lallone” find his snacks. Mallone rarely plays with toys, so she’s excited to have a way to play with him.

Overall, a big hit in my house.

My cat is one of those who is motivated by food when it comes to challenges, and this game was something I thought would keep him busy while I was out and about. He ended up smacking his face and teeth on the sides of food tray as he tried to get the food out, and when he figured out he had 2 front paws (which is wonderful) the food would end up getting stuck in the side rails that the little sushi pieces run along.

He is an adult cat, who spent a lot of time outdoors before he was adopted, so he is very very food motivated which makes him a bit whacko when he sees it. He also has a bigger face so maybe that is why it ended up not so great.

The holes are the size of about a quarter coin, so something to keep in mind when you buy for your cat!.

My humans bought me this tower to keep me entertained and satisfy those innate hunting urges of mine. I am happy to say that they made an excellent choice. Loved this tower from the moment they added the first treats/food and weeks later it is still my ‘go to’ for my food.

I like that I can ‘chase’ the treats and have to work out how to get them to fall through the levels so I can retrieve them at the bottom. Yum. Bowls are so old school and boring. Get your humans to buy you one of these!!! Prrrr.

Bought this for my two boys and after a two weeks of usage I feel its time to review. First things first: assembly. Pretty easy, 5-10 mins, had a bit of difficulty getting one of the layers locked in place but eventually managed.

After that I put it in my cats area with some treats in to get them tempted to use it. Right away my older boy (who is a known treat-fiend) was straight at it! While trying to grab the treats right out with his paw, he knocked a couple down and figured it out from there.

Now he often sits by the maze when its empty as if to tell me to restock it. I figure thats the best I coulda asked for outta this. My youngest on the other hand has not had the same success, though he had an attempt to swat the treats he promptly gave up and has not given it second go.

As for the design my only nitpick is that the bottom-most layer has a circular indent in the middle which catches the treats from falling and makes it difficult for them to get out, particularly since my cat doesn’t like to use the bottom layer.

Pro’s. Has many variations with very few parts, remove them all for an easy challenge, or add and adjust the two trays to increase the difficulty. Looks great and needs no power source other than your Cats energy and curiosity.

Fun too watch and keeps Pets entertained and from eating all their food once. Cons. It’s too top-heavy and once your Pet remembers that knocking the whole thing over makes almost all the food fall out onto the floor in one foul swoop, it can get tiresome cleaning it up over-and-over again.

The rubber mat could also “fit” a little more securely onto the base — And the Beehive shape gets in the way of eating, as every time my Cat bows down too eat it bops its head and instead pulls majority of the food out with its paw onto the floor.

Tips. Start your Pets curiosity by adding a favourite dry treat to all levels. Start on the easiest level and wait a day or week or month until your Pet “works it all out by itself. “. Tie the feeder to a chair leg or wall hook, otherwise use Velcro Tape and stick to the floor to prevent it being toppled-over.

My Vet and I had a great plan, in theory, to stop the snacking-between-meals for my two cats – because they are so chubby – but, my darling 6-year old boy cat had other plans. He gets so nervous at times and for many other reasons, too – as in: it is the end of the world if a fly gets in the apartment; he thinks it is a dive bomber, screams, and hides.

good thing he does not know how to say “incoming!”. He got so nervous that when he couldn’t nibble from time-to-time during the day at his comfort, he would promptly wolf down whatever food I gave him for breakfast and dinner (without chewing it) and then promptly heave it ALL back up.

He also does not receive any wet food now – that also triggered a heaving moment – so much so that he even shys away from the wet food now on his own. In any case, I decided that the heaving was not a healthy process for him at all – chubbiness be damned, theory tossed out the window.

Also, it was not a lot of fun for me to be picking up/cleaning up the chunky remnants off of the floor/rugs/carpeting/my bed!/the couch/etc. , every day, TWICE a day; so I found this feeder ‘toy’ which requires the cat to reach in and pull out one piece of kibble at a time to eat.

This contraption S L O W S the eating down by a million %. The best cat-related money that I have ever spent! Even my 13-year old girl cat uses this device in her lady-like way and only when I am not looking (of course), but with nowhere near the adoration and devotion that the boy has for it.

Good lord, he even takes naps next to the thing. I fill it with kibble that is created for indoor cats to help with weight management and hairballs. We are all happy and keeping all of the food in our stomachs now.

My girl’s reaction to the no-snacking-between-meals event was that it awakened her Destructo-Kitty Mode and I have too many things which can be severely damaged by a strong, determined, annoyed 16-pound cat with all of her claws, that well, something had to be done.

I have two cats. One will scarf down his food insanely fast, and the other eats half the bowl and leaves the rest, which then the chunky fast eater gobbles up if I don’t remove it quick enough. The slow eater also has periodic bouts of scarf ‘n’ barf.

This has solved most of my problems! Both cats have to work to get the kibble out, which slows them both down, eliminating piles of cat barf from my life. Because they eat slower they both seem to acknowledge that they are full and stop eating and sometimes leave kibble in the balls.

I still have to monitor a little bit to make sure they are getting equal portions and one doesn’t finish all the food and leave none for the other. But honestly, it’s worth it to no longer find random piles of puke around the house.

The only downside is my great dane thinks they are fun toys and loves to empty them out and polish off the remaining kibble.

Our male cat would go in the kitchen and sit there and eat and I started realizing he would do it when he was ‘bored’. Our female is a nibbler so she wasn’t getting much food. These helped immensely.

Our male picked these up really fast and loves rolling them around the kitchen. More than one piece falls out cause he rolls them hard, but he has to follow them around. Our female took a little bit to pick up using these, but they work for her too since it only drops about as much as she eats in a sitting.

This is simply fantastic!! My ‘little’ girl isn’t so little anymore, and now also she is on steroids so feels hungry ALL the time. She was eating her biscuits in less time than it takes Mummy here to demolish a donut.

I’ve tried spacing her biscuits out over the day, small portions, but she would always still wolf them down so fast. I saw some good reviews of this feeder and gave it a go. She DID not like this at first, the idea that she had to ‘work’ for her dinner clearly didn’t seem fair to her, she would look at the ‘hedgehog’ as I’ve called it and then shout at me for dinner, even though dinner was in the hedgehog.

I’m more stubborn than her thankfully, and after a few minutes of showing her how to get to the biccies she gave it a try and once she hooked the first one out, the penny dropped, yay 🙂 The feeder does definately slow down her eating, 100% and certainly, what used to take her say 1 minute to eat now takes perhaps 4 minutes.

But it also makes her think and work out every time how to get the biscuits out. Incredibly built too, this thing is made so well, thick material that won’t be bent no matter how hard I try. Quick and easy to clean and it appears to be waterproof too, so the water just beads off and needs minimal drying.

Fantastic itemand I’m so glad I invested the small amount of money this costs and gave it a try, I’ve already recommended it to the groomer lady at my vets and genuinely I will recommend this 100% to anyone who wants to slow down their cats eating, or just keep an indoor cat challenged at mealtimes.

I use on carpet or a towel, but easily could be used on hard floors, although I’d recommend perhaps a bit of tacky-tack (any colour :P) to hold it down. Superb item, even better value, give it a go!.

I have a almost 6 month old Lab Mix puppy, and without any kind of slow feeder, he eats his food, no joke, in 20 seconds if that. We have tried a couple different slow eaters which have helped a little bit, but he still eats pretty fast.

I watched a lot of videos on this interactive feeder and decided to give it a try! While it doesn’t slow him down as much as some of the dogs in the video, it does seem to slow him down way more than any of the other bowls we have tried! it is challenging to make him think, but he is still able to get to his food without him becoming frustrated! Right now he is around 35 lbs, and we got the large size.

The only flaw that I would say it has, is I wish the sides/perimeter was a little higher, because as he eats, there is always some food that flies across the kitchen because the sides are so low. I would highly recommend this product though!.

This is a great product, certainly slows down my guts of a kitty. She cant cheat this one, I did have the Catit slow feed tower but she could easily scoop the kibble out the sides, didnt slow her down at all.

She would then throw up from eating too quickly, not nice. This one slows her right down, usually around 3 hours to eat her breakfast as opposed to a couple of minutes or less, as she comes and goes.

Was funny watching her trying to squeeze her face between the fins to get the food, she soon discovered that that was not going to work. Happy to say no up chucks since purchasing, yay!.

This helped slow down our food-security obsessed ex-stray cat. Scooping them out as need slowed her down enough to stop her overeating. Now both our cats know that their crunchies are cached and accessible, we no longer have to carefully restrict their intake, they do it themselves.

They’re easy to clean, and robust enough. The cats seem to enjoy eating from a higher position. There’s a fair bit of storage space inside too for stashing their random bits and bobs.

I have five cats – three of which self-regulate when they eat. The other two however, well, let’s just say one of them is nicknamed “Tub-o-Lard”. The problem was, how to put the two fat boys on a diet without starving the other three who prefer to lightly graze throughout the day.

Enter the Catit Food Tree, Digger, and Multi-Feeder! These products have been perfect! Food is available for all of them throughout the day, but the fat boys must now “work” a bit extra for it – slowing down their feeding and making them less like to eat just because they are bored.

And that’s another benefit – they now get added stimulation when they want to eat. It’s a food and a toy! So, thinner, happier, and healthier cats have been the result. I love these products and definitely recommend them.

Considering how expensive feeders can get I think this is a great everyday bowl. My cat has a tendency to get indigestion so I’m glad he’s eating in a more upright position. He pretends he can’t get biscuits out of the paw pit sometimes, but he can.

It wouldn’t slow the most greedy cat down very much but it does help. Not super solid but my big cat has not knocked it over or anything. I put two tins in the base to weigh it down. Would recommend!.

A great, sturdy & practical addition to our household. Our younger Rag Doll no longer pukes up her dry food & loves to forage over a reasonable time frame after endless prompting for a feed. This new method is better than the attempted small handful distribution method as oft used by early dementia affected elderly owner.

Not so much used to by the older Burmese for feeding but still a source of amusement for her watching the younger other. As for wet food.

This is a great feeder that helps slow down the fast eating cat. It also adds interest and excitement to feeding time, since the cat has to use its paws to hunt for the kibble. This makes the eating experience more natural.

It is also easy to keep clean, is dishwasher safe, and has no loose parts that can get lost. The only thing that could be improved would be some sort of feet that prevent the feeder from sliding around on the floor.

It often ends up quite a way from where it started out.

It is deceptively tricky for the cat to get the treats out, as they vanish under the cover again when it tilts. But they can see and smell them most of the time, which keeps mine interested. He’ll even carry it about by the cover and try to shake it, although it’s fortunately too heavy for that, but the root is robust enough to cope.

I was looking for a slow feeder to try and prevent my cat from eating so fast he threw up. While this has helped some, the “maze” inside is too open to slow down feeding enough to fully accomplish my goal.

I would have liked to see thinner maze walls spaced closer together. Overall this is a pretty big bowl when you figure that it is meant for a cat, not a dog. Because of that, I’ve taken off one star.

This definitely will not work for kittens. I recommend only for cats over 10 lbs.

At first, my cats didn’t understand what they were supposed to do with this bowl but they figured it out pretty quickly. I do feel like it has slowed down how quickly they eat their food. My cats have a habit of scarfing down their food and then throwing up whole pieces of food.

That has happened less frequently than when they were eating from their regular bowls. Plus the bowl is super cute but that’s a benefit for me! :-).

I’ll start by stating that I have three cat’s. I read the package before I put the bowl to use , washed it first. It doesn’t say what it is made of. Two of three cat’s were not fond of it. The third cat would not go near it.

It was hard for them to get to the food in between the close together divider’s and the little post in the middle. It only hold’s one cup of food not the “1. 6 cup’s ” the package state’s. It is a very cute design however.

The ear’s make picking it up to clean and fill it easy. Maybe some younger kitties would be better suited for this bowl.

I purchased this for my little dog as he is extremely greedy and it has slowed him right down as has to take his time and find his way to get his food. Great product. Great value

Got this for our 6 month old pup to stop him rushing his food, works perfectly. From taking a matter of a minute to eat to 5 minutes is a vast improvement. Would definitely recommend
