20 Best Catfish For Aquarium (2022 Updated)

Treat aquarium salt as you would a medicine. Freshwater fish can benefit from small, occasional doses of salt, however, as their name suggests, freshwater fish are, well, freshwater. A true freshwater fish (such as betta, gourami, corydora, etc), can deal with small amounts of salt, and the salt can be beneficial in minor fin repair, and parasite eradication, however in large, prolonged doses, aquarium salt can wreak havoc on the kidneys.

Freshwater fish do not have the ability to properly process salts, and in turn, can damage their liver and kidneys. Liken it to the human consumption of alcohol. Small doses don’t do much, but in larger doses, damages the organs, because our bodies aren’t made to consume it.

This can also be said for beneficial things, like cold medicine. Too much of a good thing can hurt! I use this product as a first line of defense, if water changes don’t suffice. It’s best to use aquarium salt in a quarantine container, so as to provide a stress-free environment for your fish to go back to.

I generally do ten minute “baths,” and one tbs per gallon. If your fish shows any signs of stress, take them out immediately, and place them in a container of tank water. Do not attempt the bath again that day.

If you want to try again the next day, half the dosage. Do not extend the time.

When my previous dog developed nasal cancer, we were absolutely devastated. After an CT scan and removal of a lot of the mass, he was breathing better, but we knew the inevitable was going to happen.

The vet told us our 14 year old pit bull would have up to 6 months (4-5 good months). Unwilling to just give up, I did a lot of research on the best food to give dogs with cancer and how to slow the spread of cancer.

Nature’s Variety Instinct Ultimate Protein has the least amount of carbs of any brand (other than Wysong, but that’s another story. ). After switching to Nature’s Variety, our dog seemed rejuvinated and his cancer never returned.

He ended up passing away at 15 – 8 months after the CT scan from an underlying heart condition. When we adopted our new puppy, we immediately put him on this food (it’s for all life stages). It is like crack for dogs – so much energy, healthy poops, easy on his sensative stomach, and a coat that our vet says he can see his reflection in – so shiny.

He is now 8 1/2 months old and pure muscle. We couldn’t be happier with the results of feeding this food to our dogs.

My Australian Shepherd has been struggling with being a few pounds overweight, despite being on healthy weight formula dog food. I finally tried mixing half a cup of this high protein food with his healthy weight formula (once in the morning and once in the evening) and he finally lost the extra weight! He’s in such great shape now, with more energy, and he doesn’t act hungry all the time like he used to.

But now I just found out Petco won’t be carrying this product anymore??? What in the world. So disappointed. If I can find it at a competitor’s store, I’m going to have to switch pet stores. I’ve been a loyal Petco customer for 6 years, but keeping my dog healthy too important.

My fish LOVE these pellets! So do my shrimp actually, which is a little morbid, but they are omnivores after all. My tank has danio, molly, shrimp and an albino pleco. All of them have enjoyed these pellets! Will purchase again!.

This aquarium kit has everything you need, nice size. Twenty gallons is much larger than I expected, so I will be buying more fish to make it look pretty. I have a smaller Tetra tank, so am familiar with the Tetra brand pumps.

So far, my older one is still running and I expect the new one to do the same. The filter system works well to keep a clean tank, carbon filters do a nice job keeping the water clean and healthy. The only reason I didn’t give a 5 star rating, is because the filter tube is too short for this size tank.

It needs to go a few inches deeper to clean the bottom area of tank. Otherwise, I love it! Tetra makes quiet pumps, once you get the settings adjusted, very quiet. I did notice the bottom of tank is not solid, is also clear, so I was very careful to not drop gravel/rocks in the empty tank.

Nice tank, sturdy, no leaks. It’s a tall tank, though. The “Whisper” filter is rather noisy, but reviews pointed that out. That wasn’t all that objectional to me. Others may want to find another pump/filter.

My fish, who I had to bring in from my outdoor pond for repairs are happy.

I was hesitant to buy this but very happy now. I had it shipped to my door and it came quickly and was not broken. The included filter is fine, works great, quiet. I am not thrilled with the heater, you can not set it, you get 78 degrees, but it seems to work fine.

The lights and lid were better than expected, heavy duty plastic, required gentle setup, has hinges and led white lights, cut out spots for heater and light cords and air tubing. Thermometer is difficult to see well, included plants are a nice addition.

You will need to buy 30 lbs of gravel. I used Tetra Quick Start for set up and it worked great, you also need chemicals to de chlorinate and adjust PH and water hardness depending on what fish you will have.

Most importantly remember 1 inch of fish for one gallon of water, do not overpopulate or you will have problems.

First one came was broke was very easy to contact Walmart fedex came got the broken tank I had my new tank within a week so all together from the time I originally ordered it only took about week an half love it tank is very beautiful it comes with alot more than what description says.

Rip off. 200 bucks worth of stuff for almost 400. also be sure to look at dimensions, this has a long and low profile. not typical.

I purchased this for my 8 year olds 29 gallon tank. The plastic strip is IMPOSSIBLE to slide all the way onto the glass. I have even tried several different types of lubricants and four other people have tried as well.

It will not go on more than 60%. Waste of money.

The plastic on the back they say you can cut it to fit around the filter the plastic to hard to cut and now don’t fit my tank why they say it’s easy to cut plastic plastic way to hard

Super fast shipping ! It is beautiful & fits perfectly ! The only thing to improve is the handles used to open the lid. Other then that buy it it’s wonderful !!! 🙂

These “Extra Course” rollers don’t work! They are of the worst quality! The way they are constructed makes them grind like fine rollers not extra coarse.

We have had plecos and catfish in our tanks for years and are sure it has to do with Sera Catfish Chips. They are a great quality product. These types of fish need a wood supplement in addition to regular pellets and absolutely love them.

Bristlenose catfish love it but my dwarf Plecos that are wood eaters wont touch it. Worth a try

Sie haben eine natrliche Optik und sind deutlich besser als die Plastik Teile vom Fressnapf etc. Leider haben die Welse etwas viel an der Innenseite geraspelt nach einem Jahr in Benutzung, so das stellenweise der “rote Ton” durch kommt, die Farbe hlt also nicht ewig! Trotzdem ein gutes Produkt was ich gerade noch 2x gekauft habe!.

My Corydoras, Botias and Plecos love them

The best! All my catfish have grown quit a bit since I started feeding them this food.

I LOVE Chewy! They ship so fast. But, these are not wafers IMO. They are pellets. They sink slowly, which is good, but they go into the gravel because of their size. Wafers on the other hand sink but stay on top of gravel so fish have a chance to clean them up.

I won’t buy them again for this reason.

As always, Hikari products are a treat for any fish. This item is loved by Corydoras, SAE and even my Rummy Nose tetras! Always buy premium food like this for your fish. A must buy.

After looking it all over I figured catfish would make the most sense, but wanting a clean slate I started watching YouTube videos and saw Whisker Seeker come up a few times.

Bought the catfish tackle box and have been pleased with the assortment. I mixed it with some Tackle Bandit sinkers and have what I need to head out. I’ve enjoyed using the kit and buying it all together was less stress and easier for someone starting fresh to catfishing than trying to piece it together.

Awesome build quality, and very strong leads and hooks, I hit the waters with confidence. And I can assure anyone reading this, it works. It’s fall in Ohio, so I throw on a seeker with a bit of fresh caught shad and pull out channels and blues from lake Erie just about every night.

No record breakers so far, but decent cats all around. Best part is, after pricing up similar but not as well made gear, I was looking at over a hundred bucks. I’m still left wondering how they can give it up for so cheap.

Caught 7 catfish all around 8 pounds our first time out. That seems to be the average around here but I am sure this tackle will handle larger ones just as well. Just got to find them.

There was so many good things about this feed. The fact that it floats is key. You can watch the fish come to the surface to feed. I bought this for the pond I have on my property, but it’s not just for catfish.

It’s not just for fish. We have lived here for 8 months now & once I put this out we suddenly had ducks come to visit. I originally threw corn out there thinking it would float, but it doesn’t. Save your money on that one.

The best part was my container that I had it in got rain water in it. Now I know you throw it in the water anyway, but once it gets wet, it swells & is much easier to break down & stick together. I laid it out on a towel in the garage & it dried out back to it’s original size & consistency.

It could not be easier to work with & it is super light weight & easy to carry. Don’t let the big bag fool you. Very portable. I love this stuff. Bought 2 big bags & will definitely be buying more.

We’ve used Floating Pond and Catfish Food for years to feed the sunfish and blue gills by our boat well. It’s really funny when people come by in their boats fishing right by our boat well. I’ve never seen them catch very many fish even though when I go down to feed them, it’s like throwing meat to a group of hungry piranhas.

I think that they’re trained to eat the good food that I feed them.

I have a 2 acre pond. It’s stocked with bream, bass and channel catfish. Unfortunately, a few green sunfish inhabit the pond. They seem to have crossed up with the bream resulting in some very large big mouth bream.

The bass have always been stunted due to over crowding. A couple of years ago we removed a large number of small bass. Yet, we’ve never caught a bass larger than 1 pound. In May of 2016 I stocked 350 3 to 4 inch channel catfish.

Since May 2016 I’ve been feeding a mixture of Sportsman Catfish Feed (large pellets), as well as the smaller Sportsman pellets for the smaller bream. Over the winter when the temp was right, I fed a sinking fish Sportsman food.

Wow, I’ve been amazed at the gains I’m seeing in such a short period time. We’re now catching catfish 4 pounds and larger. There are many bream exceeding 1/2 pound. The hybrid bream (large mouth) are nearly a pound.

The amount of forage fish (small bream) has blown up. I can’t believe the number of small bream that rush to the edge when I’m feeding. We are now beginning to see signs of large bass along the pond edge.

This past Saturday, one of my grandsons, caught a 4 pound bass. His smile was priceless. It was a wonderful memory, including him releasing the fish. I’m sure there are other good products, but I’m definitely believer in the products Sportsman produces.

Reviews of the LED on this Koller Panaview from Amazon and other review sites state the LED lights will burn out due to the condensation. Mine burned out within 3 months. Been 6 months and still unable to rectify.

The clear shield protector that covers the LED strip isn’t sealed properly. The condensation will work its way up to the push button switch that is mounted on top of the tank. I won’t modify the tank lights to another system because I don’t want any electrical problems due to water condensation and electricity do not mix.

So far, I cannot locate the tank lid separately with the upgraded LED fix yet. I have read its out there but no luck yet.

Got this tank for my male Betta and he loves it. At first I thought the filter jets might make too strong of a current for him to comfortably swim in, but it comes with a snap on diverter that helps mix in more air and soften the water flow.

The LEDs are nice and bright with many options, but it’s a little annoying clicking through the sequence to get to the one you want. Also, the panoramic view is nice, but there are blind spots when viewing from certain angles.

However, the shape does make cleaning and maintenance much easier. My lid is a little wobbly, but nothing that affects it’s functionality. All-in-all an easy and quick setup that let me focus on the aquascaping for my Betta.

Its a nice clear , cute tank for starters. It has all or most of what you need except a heater. Only one small issue was the power cord receptical was not lined up and lose in hood so trying to plug connecter together had to be played with to connect it.

Minor for me but someone else , not sure. Suggestion. To find the little hole to plug in could of been labeled or made a different color so you could find it easier , other wise you will have to look close for it.

My cichlid tanks enjoyed this but this must be like crack for shrimp because they immediately stopped eating everything else in the food dish and went straight for this. Copper is toxic to shrimp and although this item has it in the ingredient list, it’s also last on this list.

I would probably only use this as an occasional treat for shrimp just in case the small amount of copper builds up to a toxic level.

My fish love these pellets and so do I! The size is perfect for my dwarf cichlids and the slow sinking quality ensures all fish in the tank get fed. Very happy with the quality and pricing!

Initially purchased a large. It arrived with a tag marked large, but it measured as a medium. Size Length Width Height Medium 8. 1 inches 4. 2 inches 5. 2 inches Large 11. 6 inches 5. 6 inches 6. 4 inches Jumbo 14 inches 8.

1 inches 8. 5 inches Chewy sent me another one for free within a day, but it also had a tag marked large, and it measured as a medium too. Chewy provided a refund for the first one. I then ordered a jumbo and got 10% off and free overnite shipping.

It arrived next day with a tag marked jumbo, but it measured as a large. The product is mislabeled, so order next size up from what you want. Service from Chewy was great though. I gave 4 stars b/c is was a bit of a hassle.

I ordered the large log for my fish tank. I have a large parrot fish and I purposely bought this for her to use as a “hide”, the ad says the large is 5. 6 inches wide and it’s actually less than 4inches wide and therefore my fish was nowhere near able to fit inside.

I threw it in my dragon enclosure to save me the time and effort of having to ship it back. Very disappointing.

The large didnt measure up with what online measurements said. Chewy came through & paid me back. I am donating that one to SPCA. We then ordered the Jumbo one & Shadow (my fish) loves it. We call him Shadow as he loves to hide.

And he is hiding nicely in his new Jumbo log. Thanks Chewy!.

These are super easy to open, rinse, and add to your aquarium. I mixed this with substrate so that my plants would have an easier time rooting end it looks wonderful. If you’re wondering how many rocks are colorful, it’s much less than you think from the photos.

For me that is a good thing, but if you were looking for a ratio, personally for mine it was about 1/4 colored and the rest was black. Personally I love this because I have a planted tank and I only slightly wanted a pop of color.

It’s just gravel but it works great! I’m very happy that none of this is sharp as I have snails. I think mixing it with substrate makes a perfectly wonderful floor for plants and bottom feeders. But that’s just my personal opinion !.

I bought this for my Glofish Betta to complement his color. I followed all the directions & rinsed the gravel well. 24 hours later, I wake up to find him dead and his water all cloudy, even though I did an 80:20 water change just yesterday and the filter works just fine.

I’ve had him for 8 months and have had no problems before using this gravel. I looked up other reviews of this gravel from different sites, and other people report their fish dying within 24 hours of adding this gravel.

I’m devastated and wish I had never added this to his tank. Please reconsider before buying this.
