20 Best Catfish For Ponds (2022 Updated)

First off – I am not feeding these to my fish directly, instead I use flakes as food for my worms that I feed my fish. Chewy lists the below ingredients, but when I look at the container, it lists different ingredients and LOTS of fake colors.

As I write this, Chewy has no pics of the ingredients on the bottle either. I refuse to feed my animals any fake colors. Luckily this was cheap, so no money wasted and it isn’t worth returning. I’m going to try to donate it to a local fish rescue.

If it had the ingredients listed minus the fake color, I would consider it a decent food. Not the best, but edible. See my pic attached of the actual ingredients. The site lists – Fish Meal, Ground Brown Rice, Wheat Germ Meal, Feeding Oat Meal, Shrimp Meal, Potato Protein, Dried Yeast, Wheat Gluten, Fish Oil, Soybean Oil, Wheat Flour, Lecithin, Sorbitol, Dehulled Soybean Oil, Algae Meal, Yeast Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Inositol, Niacin, L-Ascorbyl 2 Polyphosphate, A-Tocopherol Acetate, Riboflavin 5 Phosphate, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin A Palmitate, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Cholecalciferol.

Simple way to feed pond fish. The pellets can easily be broken down into smaller pellets or crushed between the fingers into a powder, which slowly sinks allowing smaller or more timid fish to feed below the bigger ones.

With that and the unbroken pellets floating you can make sure all of the pond fish are feeding, also you can make sure they’re not overfeeding. I use these all year round, the fish seem to thrive on them, keep their colour and breed well.

Obviously when it’s really cold I don’t feed them much or at all. Used these floating pellets for many years, tried other brands in the past but always come back to these. Plus the water doesn’t seem to get contaminated by them either.

I wouldn’t use anything else now. Small pond with around 15 goldfish, fantails etc. from babies, juveniles to 12inch long.

Always buy Tetra Pond Sticks as I have a variety of fish in my pond from large Koi to small goldfish. I find there is very little waste and I usually buy Koi sticks and Pond Sticks and mix the two together.

This year they have all eaten very well due to the hot weather so I have got through quite a few large bags.

My pond fish like Tetra Sticks better than any other fish food I’ve tried. And I’ve tried several. They like that it floats on the top and they can swim up and get it. The stuff that floats down immediately gets lost in the pond and they can’t find it.

And of the foods that float on top, they come for this as soon as we toss it. They spit out the other stuff and get very angry when we tried it. Chewy has the best price for Tetra Sticks.

I love Tetra pond sticks! I especially like that there are 2 types. Regular pond sticks is for feeding when the water temperature is above 50⁰ & Spring/Fall diet for water temps of 39⁰ to 50⁰. My gold fish gobble up Pond sticks twice a day.

I also like that the diets are for vibrant colors.

I have been using the Spring & Fall Diet Fish Food for many years, as well as Tetra Pond’s other Koi foods. Some of my older koi have grown to almost 2 feet in length, just feeding them the Tetra Pond line of koi food.

I start the Spring & Fall when my pond thermometer goes down to 50′ and I continue it in the cold weather, until the high 30’s or when my fish no longer show any interest in feeding. As water temps get lower, koi will need less food.

They can no longer digest the regular koi foods containing large amounts of protein. This food is a plant based food, what fish will normally consume in the spring and fall colder temps when “animal” protein (bugs, etc.

) are not available.

I love this fish food for Fall and Spring. It is essential to their health to use this food during the first month of feeding in the Spring and the last month of feeding in the Fall. They will digest this food much easier than the regular food.

My fishies don’t like this food as well as their Summer food, but if they are hungry, they will eat it. Who can blame them. I don’t enjoy healthy food more than greasy junk food either! But digestive systems appreciate it!! Enjoy your fishies!! ;-).

I purchased this on line with a ship to store option. Normally buy the Trophy fish food at TSC but have been out for over 6 weeks, same MFG. so I thought I’d try it. Bluegills come up bit it and spit it back out, 1 9lb channel cat does eat it no other cats, 2 grass crap also will eat it.

I would not waste my money on this again, will just have to wait on my original type at TSC when they get it if ever.

While the fish in my pond do eat the product they like dog food better, swarming and hitting the kibble with greater enthusiasm than the fish food. What they do after it sinks isn’t clear but usually it is gone from the shallows in the morning.

If the situation improves over time I may purchase the fish chow again, but as all fishermen know the finney rascals are fickle eaters at best.

I bought this last year too and fed my fish with it throughout the Winter. All the fish survived unlike previous years when many died in Spring. Ive been feeding them this year again and they are waiting to be fed daily and eat it all straight away so non is left to rot.

I start feeding the fish again with Tetra Variety Sticks fish food in the Spring. My fish have grown so big and are very healthy. The bigger pack is better value as it keeps fresh in the resealable bag.

This product does exactly what it says on the packet. My pond fish still come up for food, but with the water temperature below they need Wheatgerm products

I have been feeding my Koi with “Koi Vibrance” since they were fry and they have always went after it like gluttons. But during that time I have been purchasing the produce locally in much smaller containers for much more money per unit of measure.

That is why I decided to purchase these 16. 5 lb. bags from the Docs site. So far I am a bit concerned since my fish which are about 2 ft. long now, seem not overly impressed with this stuff. They nibble on it, but seem to be more interested in feeding on whatever else they can find in the pond.

Other than their reaction to the new food they seem plenty healthy and active. My concern is that the new food may be old and stale or not otherwise up to the standards of its name. That aside it is also possible that the whole thing could be the result of the fact that the fish just may be at their maximum size considering the size of the pond that they are in and are just eating enough to maintain their health.

I just don’t know yet so I will continue to monitor the situation.

I have picky koi–I know, rare as they are usually voracious eaters–and most sticks or pellets I’ve bought for them they’ve refused to eat, leaving them to either float until they disintegrate, or sink, where they disintegrate, either way making a mess of the pond.

With these a couple of my koi aren’t super happy and hold back until they realize that’s all that’s on offer, but the rest eat without complaint. And no having to net or scoop out what they won’t eat.

I have 5 Koi and 2 goldfish in a small water feature pond. I was feeding them Tetra flakes and decided to mix it up with the Tetra Vibrance pellets. I would sprinkle a bit of both together in the morning.

They would eat the pellets but MUCH preferred the flakes. When I ran out of the flakes and just gave them the pellets they nibbled on it a bit but left quite a bit to float around all day. As far as Pond Guy and Tetra – delivery and service was both very good.

Tetra flakes are great and the product is excellent. I guess my fish are picky eaters :).

I will admit, its not the cheapest Koi food you can buy, so it all comes down to preference and budget. I have been using Tetra product for 35 years and these Koi sticks for the last 15 years. The fish enjoy them, the water is not discoloured and I have faith that a reputable company like Tetra will be adding the best ingredients and not cutting corners.

The sticks float and the food is gone well before it would ever have a chance to sink and pollute the pond. Totally Recommended but do not overfeed greedy fishes with this product!.

It is what it is. I have been using this product for years. The fish love it. It doesn’t cloud the water and stays whole and floats even when it take on water.

Tetra Koi Sticks are the absolute best ! My fish Love them !! Have tried other Pond Sticks but they were not as good quality and the fish did not like them , so now I only buy the Tetra Koi Sticks .

The reed fish love em! Bumblebee I guess likes them too, not sure tho cuz he’s always mia. Even Turbo the snail seems to enjoy nibbling. Guppies take part as well but they’re like Mickey, they’ll eat anything.

It has lots of fish nutrition even for the carnivore, sink quickly, soften up fast, the pack is small but dont let that fool you it’ll last a good while, never any leftovers so fish approved. Recommend to anyone that have fish that prefer their dinner on the bottom of the tank.

Just wish it was more available in stores. just keep in mind how long it takes to receive it, so you know when to reorder before you run out.

For the last 2-3 months I’ve been giving this food to my Corys as their staple diet and every time plop a few in it’s no time till they’re all over them. Great quality food specifically formulated for the nutritional requirements of Cory cats and Loaches.

I like that!! I used specialty food only formulated for my Corys. They’re very lively, active and their colors are the best they have ever been. They are very healthy inside and out!!! My Cory’s love this food. I have about 40 Cory’s in my 125 gallon tank. They all go crazy for these at feeding time. Very good quality. They are happy and healthy. Glad chewy has these. Will not buy any other brand.

The Booyah Buzz Bait is well-balanced and rides the surface well whether in calm or windy conditions. The ‘clacker’ gives off vibrations and noise that increases the strike zone as it ‘calls’ out to the fish.

I have successfully caught both large bass and northerns with this bait. I believe this ‘clacker’ separates this buzz bait from all its competitors. My only suggestion to Booyah would be to ‘close’ the metal lead onto which one ties line.

Big northerns can inhale the whole bait and with their sharp teeth can cause ‘bite offs’. I purchased a spool of pliable wire and wound an inch or two of this wire around this area of the lure, creating a closed metal area.

I attach 6″ to 9″ steel leaders. The lure still works like a charm but with no bite offs. After catching a few big northerns (>30″) the lure may need a ‘tune-up’. Using needle-nosed pliars, I adjust the lure so that the blade wire is always parallel to the lower hook wire.

Needless to say, I have caught more fish and bigger fish since making this lure a must-cast bait on every trip out.

Big northern pike were in the area. I put on the (black) Booyah Buzz Bait w/clapper and it was no contest. Photos captured a 38″ beast and at least 6 others that broke the 30″ mark. The Booyah runs true and high in the water, rattles and clangs until the pike crunch it, and performs cast after cast.

My only alteration was using NO-LEAD wire (. 035 oz) to close off the metal tip of the bait. I use at least 6″ steel leaders and the closed tip really helps. Add a stinger hook if they are biting short and you have a surface bait that takes a back seat to no other.

A tip is to check the alignment of the horizontal metal bars of the lure. Along with the head, the metal bars must all be parallel. After a few big pike, these can get a bit skewed. A needle-nose pliar’s adjustment and it again runs true.

I have one plastic bait box filled with each color and size of this killer bait. Mr. Pike doesn’t have a chance.

Just caught a 40” pike on this guy. I almost never throw spinnerbaits but i decided to try and become more familiar with them and I ended up catching my PR pike. Do yourself a favor and get one already.

I was using the firetiger color on a lake in upstate NY, the water clarity was very clear and i was retrieving at a medium pace about a foot below the surface above weedy cover, water depth was approx.

I got Zignature cause I had been waiting for it to come to Australia ever since I first laid my eyes upon it. Which I think was around 8 years ago or so. It’s gone through a lot of formula changes, this recent one made it cheaper.

It’s price a couple years ago was so high barely anyone could really afford it. I’ve been a part of a lot of groups whose people had mentioned it’s price a lot. When we finally received it, a friend had told me about it and I immediately went and got a bag of the lamb.

I looked to see what the difference in the small bites was but other than smaller bites nothing. I got the regular size as the small bites had the kibble shape my dogs hate. They liked it the first week or two, I mix feed, but than they went off it.

This was expected truthfully as they seem to enjoy kibbles with more ingredients which add flavour. To be honest regardless if they liked it or not I bought it, because of how badly I’ve wanted it. I’ve currently got it off the rotation, but I’ll add it in at a later date again and see if their interested again.

The 1. 8kg bags do not zip up, you cannot close the bag. Which is unfortunate really. The pricing is honestly incredibly good for a US food. They are usually incredibly expensive.

This dogfood saved two of my dogs AND me! One had terrible skin allergies. I spent thousands on medications and food changes for five years before finding Zignature. Another of my dogs has inflammatory bowel disease.

He was on multiple daily meds and still vomited frequently until I put him on Zignature. LITERALLY, both dogs were much improved within two weeks of starting on this food (both hard and soft). Before trying Zignature, I researched dog food ingredients on line and went through my local pet store reading the fine print.

Zignature was the ONLY brand I found that did not contain guar gum. I don’t know if that is the main thing that has made the difference. All I know is that my allergic dog no longer itches or takes ANY medication other than a Cytopoint injection once every few months.

My IBD pup never throws up now, and he is not on any meds. Zignature is a godsend! I wouldn’t use any other brand. I AM NOT A PAID REPRESENTATIVE OF THIS COMPANY. I am just a grateful pet owner/customer.

So, I wanted to leave a huge review for this food. I have multiple pictures for this review as well. My 1 year old, 80+ lbs pitbull/retriever mix dog has been the pickiest dog i have ever had in my life.

He turns his nose up to so much food, therefore meaning I have spent money on so much food. I was getting to the point of “if he’s hungry enough, he’ll frikin eat it”. I even looked for a way to get mini sample packs of food to see if he’d show me what he’d like.

I found diddly squat! I finally decided my last ditch effort was to order the smaller bags of a couple well reviewed dog foods, and do a sample food buffet along with some other foods I have bought over the months.

In order: *Farmina N&D Lamb & Blueberry for Medium and Maxi breeds, *[no bag in picture] a grain free, Acana brand food (i don’t remember the flavor, sorry!) *Nutro Lamb & Brown Rice for Large Breed Puppy, *Eukanuba Chicken for Large Breed & Active Puppy, *Farmina N& D Chicken & Pomegranate for Medium and Maxi, & * Zigniture Limited Ingredient Turkey (for my white dog with severe allergies) #i also want to note, I did a majority of grain foods because, after extensive research, grain free foods were found more-long term- damaging to golden retriever breeds(which my black dog is half of) [My cat & dogs did sniff all foods] END RESULTS?! (For fun) Kitty- Farmina N&D Chicken & Pomegranate! (The picky one!) Black dog- Farmina N&D Lamb & Blueberry! *I would like to mention though, the only other one he decided was acceptable enough to even taste test was the Farmina N&D Chicken and Pomegranate (Allergies) white dog- Zigniture Turkey Limited Ingredient! * phew! I was worried about that one! So glad she loves her special food! I would like to mention though, the only other foods she found worthy to taste test were both the Farmina N&D’s.

We recently just redid our pond. It was recommended to try a different food. This came right on time. As I was looking for a different brand. My koi seems to really enjoy it. Before they wouldn’t fully finish the pellets.

Now they eat them all and stay to the top for more. We also have gold fish in the pond and they all eagerly eat this food. So much so that we tried it on our gold fish we have in a inside tank and got the same results.

They finish the pellets before it can reach the bottom. It didnt cloud my pond nor fish tank. Before I had problems with my fish spitting pellets back out. I tried this for a week or so before writing this review.

My goldies nor koi spit these back out. I am truly satisfied with this product. I even noticed my fish are getting bigger.

I use Wardley Pond Pellets to feed our koi fish. I have a small pond located next to our patio. The children love to watch the fish and help me feed them. The fish seem to like the pellets and I like that they help keep water cleaner.

I always keep a canister of pellets to use as the fish main source of nutrition. It contains protein and vitamin C. We feed our fish twice a day. It’s fun and relaxing to watch the koi swim to grab the pellets.

I like the resealable storage canister. It’s handy to store with my other pond care items.

My pup has several food & environmental allergies, (chicken, turkey, beef, beet pulp all items typically found in even the most well reccommended prescription diet brands). I have gone so far as to purchase fish, pork & lamb & create fresh food at home myself, but my pup aint having it.

He would eat chicken & beef happily if we could give it to him, but due to his allergies he ends up red rashy & hairless with sores; so we stick to park, fish & venison. The problem is the Zignature pork is literally the only food he will consume, he has actually starved himself for nearly 2 days when given foods that upset his stomach he will let me know! I compliment petflow for their service, they are timely and the application is easy to use! I place an order on Mondays it is here by or before Wednesday.

The only time I ever had an issue with delivery was by my own fault, I ordered late evening on Friday so the order didn’t ship until Monday the next week. So if you need it before Monday, don’t order late Friday! Otherwise I am always happy with petflow & I’ll also mention.

I was using hydrolyzed protein which is low-grade food predigested with a nasty acid. My dog would go nearly two days without eating before eating that. It was nasty. The Ph. D. docs online talk about novel proteins.

That was hard because I had given my very healthy and strong dog so much variety in her life. This is working well as a novel protein FOR MY DOG. Note that if your dog has an allergy, it can be to about anything.

I have to feed her the food she likes for a week and monitor her poop. She digests this well and likes it. She has to take 4 pills a day (severe blood pressure and low thyroid) and those I insert into a piece of cheese I place on top of the food.

I have also mixed this with scrambled liquid eggs or egg whites. I also feed her some vegan foods which do not bother her but do not always interest her. This brand is well sourced and well made. Nothing compares to making it yourself BUT only do that if you have studied nutrition very well and can source better than a good vendor and if you have a lot of time to prepare the food and keep it safe in storage.

Kangaroo cannot be shipped to my state.

Found this site to be so so so much cheaper than anywhere else with free shipping on top of that. The 4-pound bag is the best buy. The food has the consistency of the cereal Cheerios as it is lightweight compared to my normal koi food pellets.

It just tells me the food is less dense. All my fish seem to like it a lot but then they eat pretty much anything I feed them. The food floats on top and soaks up water but again the fish don’t seem to mind.

I like the feature that the water clarity is supposed to be less affected.

My fish like this best. How can I tell? With the cheaper pellets they eat and stop when satisfied. With this stuff they will eat all night if allowed. This is the one we let the grandkids feed them. They can feed small handfuls all day and the fish still get excited about it.

Splashing and laughter ensues. More bang for my buck.

We have new Koi (our ten year old Koi were wiped out by a heron). They’ve been in the pond since last August, and seem to be thriving on this food. They come to the edge of the pond when I go out to feed them.

There is never any waste. I guess it’s the fish that give this a five star rating!.

My kuhli would not eat it. The first one I put in it nibbled on some, but was still mostly there the next day. I took that one out and I tried again a few days later like recommended for introducing new foods.

Still no luck. I did try pellets and he doesn’t like those either. He likes betta flakes though. Haha.

I randomly bought these a couple months ago to give my corys an extra treat from their other food. My corys are now in a 55 gal set up with a few angelfish and a pleco. Within seconds of me placing these wafers in, my corys swarm over and begin eat to their hearts’ content.

It only took a few feedings for the corys to realize what the wafers were. My angelfish now choose to pick at these as well whenever they finish their regular food. It is quite humorous to watch them all try to eat together.

The only problem I’ve had is if your corys do not eat all you place in the tank, it builds up within the gravel, much like feeding excess flakes. However, this is easily solved by feeding the correct amount.

I would highly recommend these!.

I have little bandit catfish and albino loaches. They really like these quick sinking tablets. And they are reproducing. went from 2 catfish to 6! The tank has a couple of bristlenosed plecos that get algae tablets, but eat these wafers as well.

I was looking for a cane in this measure of 2. 40m to replace what had previously been my star cane and after buying and testing the Daiwa Legalis Light Game 1-10 gr 2. 34 m, I decided on this Daiwa model.

The truth is that I have little to add to the construction and finishes of this rod, they are absolutely extraordinary for the price level we are talking about. Shrouded with a Shimano Ultegra FB 2500 form a very balanced and powerful team.

I have taken pieces of porrillo with a solvency beyond doubt. Absolutely recommended.

I own a couple of these rods and think for the money they’re the best value out there. Not the best rod but any means but when you look at the components I don’t think you can beat the price anywhere.

I have both spinning and baitcasting models and have found them to be quite sensitive and will handle most fishermans tasks. I did have the tip break off a 7′ MH spinning rod trying to drag a 6. 4# bass out of a golf course lake but that was probably my fault for not taking greater care.

Now I just use it as a 6’6″ spinning. The rod seat can be improved since it’s made out of plastic and you do have to check on the reel seat to make sure ift hasn’t come loose but I’ve had to do that with much more expensive rods as well.

We bought 2 rods which of 1 performed admirably the other broke on section 4 whilst fighting a medium Catfish for no reason. Great rod but perhaps we had a defective section. Good rod caught a 90lb Cat from the bank would buy again for travel use.
