20 Best Cathedral Port Intake (2022 Updated)

I bought this intake awhile ago and finally got around to bolting it up. Ill start by saying it’s a nice looking intake, I didn’t like that it didn’t come with gaskets. I put it on and the engine wasn’t running right, I found that where its drilled out for the msd to sit its actually drilled to far and goes into the intake runner.

If not for that it would be a soild 5 stars.

I bought the edelbrock because it used the stock intake seals. It also has a dedicated spot for the timing controller. Nice part as edelbrock parts always are.

Great looking and fitting intake, didn’t come with gaskets though. Thought it was going to, the bolts are supposed to be “50” mm long and they’re not, I started bolting the intake down and the first one I tightened all the way stripped the head because there was not enough bite on the heads.

Ended up taking all the bolts out and replacing them with true 65 mm bolts.

The whole experience with speedway is great. The parts are in stock, pricing is competitive with everyone, and speedway includes things like an oil filter with my oil pan kit that others do not. The Little things that count.

Shopping was free and quick. Tracking was available right away.

Intake does what I needed it to do but the bolts were cheesy. I didn’t even get it snug before the bolt broke off into my aluminum head. Just save yourself the time and purchase new hardware.

I know china can make some ok hotrod parts. but when I buy holley or edelbrock I guess you can’t assume everything is made in usa anymore. an intake c’mon can’t be hard to make that here why ship that out? I had two of these intakes and this one had a crappier casting.

overall it performs well and for the money is worth it.

Anyone buying this manifold should remove all the M6 screws holding the top and bottom together, and apply loctite. After half a season of racing one of my screws fell out, and 3 were half way loose.

This manifold is a challenge to fit: It interferes with the knock sensor harness. Better get those wires just right or the manifold will be stuck up to high. Injector o-rings do not fit, you’ve got to spend an hour sourcing some just the right size.

Holley billet fuel rail or generic LS billet rails will not bolt up, included mounting brackets are not the right size. You’ll need to custom make some. No throttle cable mount included – Try a Camaro mount, maybe it’l fit It took me about 2 weeks and 3 parts orders to get this thing fitted.

About 2 hours making custom fuel rail mounts. Overall I am pleased with the horse power gain, but the engineers at FAST could have done a lot more to make this thing install easily.

This FAST 102 Intake bolts on fairly easily, you should buy new gaskets, they’re cheap, and brand new, take your time and it is a breeze. Make sure to use Blue Loctite on ALL BOLTS, (VERY IMPORTANT) and torque to FAST specifications, be careful with fuel injectors connectors, as they will break very easily, once you have the old Intake ready to be removed, unplug Brake Booster Hose at the Brake Booster, not the Manifold, and snake it around and out.

DO NOT unplug your oil pressure sensor, (it is towards the back of the manifold) as it will be a bear to get back in, because you can’t reach it, also, buy a Valley Pan to Intake Hose (see pics), mine broke in two when I tried to pull it off, had to go to parts store and get a hose and cut to size.

Upon start up, I had numerous codes, a horrible ticking noise, sounded horrible !! Thought I broke my engine !!!!! Cleared the codes, turned it off, unhooked negative battery again, waited a few minutes, then started up, and after idling for a few minutes after, (took two times doing this and clearing codes), it relearned the correct MAP/Throttle sensor readings, and sounded perfect.

You need a tune afterwards for optimal performance. Great mod for an LS2 !!.

When I went to install this there were no intake manifold gaskets, needed new fuel rails which required a connector hose which leaked untill i put teflon on the fittings. Overall every “fast” product that i bought required another piece.

Also is your putting this on any ls1/6 engine the 102 mm throttle body will not fit with the stock water pump, causing me to shave the throttle body down with a file. If you buy this product make sure that you have every piece (intake manifold gaskets, fast fuel rails, fast fuel line connector hose, fittings, 8an plug or pressure gauge).

I just wish that they would let you know whats needed to make this fit before you buy it.

Fit and finish was great, though I haven’t started my engine yet. One weird thing was it came with 4 intake bolts to use during installation. These bolts were too short for my application. They only grabbed maybe a single thread in my heads.

This same thing happened with my intake bolt kit I had purchased too. I ended up buying 1. 5″ SS bolts and it bolts up perfect. Maybe intake is thicker than some? So far I’m very happy with my intake!.

Did not buy this intake through summit BUT just wanted to let everyone know you do need intake bolts for this. The ARP Chromoly Intake Manifold Bolt Kits 135-2002 are the ones you need. I put this intake on a 454, these bolts are for both 454 and 502, don’t be fooled by the description.

The OEM intake bolts are too short.

Distributors with a bolt down lower cap come too close to touching the front of this manifold. If you have a distributor that has bails that hold on the lower cap, it takes a lot of grinding on either the intake or distributor for the distributor to actually set all the way down and be able to be adjusted.

Must be a casting problem or just bad design. Engine runs, but shouldn’t have to modify things just to run a factory duraspark distributor.

Fast shipping on the part of summit. Packaging was solid. Intake arrived in perfect condition. Replaced the factory intake so obviously it is lighter and improves the looks. Unfortunately a performance difference by seat-of-the pants is insignificant.

I would imagine if I had done heads and a cam (which will come in the future) that this intake would serve much better than factory. Gods quality product that I would buy again.

I use this to make car go. Better fuel mileage than my 8. 2 super vic single-plane intake running the same Street Demon carb, but slightly (very slightly) less power off the line. Lots of places with lots of folks will tell you to stay away from Weiand and get an Edelbrock due to manifold-to-head bolt hole material letting loose on Weiands? Not here.

Plenty of surface material, and with new felpro’s and my own torque pattern in 7 passes from contact up to 36 ft-lbs, this thing does not warp, leak, lose seal, or anything else the fanboys would have you spend more money for.

Got a 4-barrel and a street 351W? Get this intake.

Great intake with a nice power band (1500-6500). Yes, the Chinese knock off (Crosswinds, etc. ) are cheaper but, this American made intake is machined CORRECTLY and FITS! If you need an intake for your magnum style engine/heads, this is the intake you want (#7577).

It will NOT bolt to LA style heads. there is a different part number for that intake. Last but not least, I had a hard time finding nice bolts to bolt this intake down with. Eventually found that the required bolts are 5/16 x 2.

25″. and are used on SOME (not all) small block Fords. ARP makes a nice polished stainless set of bolts (part number 454-2103) that work perfectly!.

Absolutely love this intake manifold! Use it on all my Mopar Small Block Magnums that have been converted to carb with this intake. The intake bolt angle on LA motors are on an angle with the head, this is what really sets LA and Magnum V8’s apart from each other, for Magnums have a vertical intake bolt angle.

Wouldn’t use any other intake!.

This is a great manifold. I looked at the crosswinds and the other knockoff and found they were lacking in many areas. In the end, I opted for the one I know works AND I am supporting American labor and American companies.

Say what you like, but this is how we became great to begin with. Edelbrock hit this one out of the park.

The casting on this manifold is a joke. I only have photos of one side since the other side is just a mirror image. The colored areas show how far off the ports are from the gaskets. Now I imagined I would have to do some grinding to get it just right, but this is stupid how far off the port casting is.

Port 1 will need over an 1/8″ of epoxy to be correct. Same on the other side with port 8. You can see port 7 is alright so I can’t justify shifting the manifold around. Same for port 2 on the other side.

Port 4 needs almost a 1/4″ ground off one side. Then about an 1/8″ of epoxy on the other side to match up. Compared my intake gaskets to the Aluminum Edelbrock heads on the engine (400B), and with the old 452 heads that were on it.

The gaskets match up almost perfect on either type of head with no port work. Everything else about the manifold looks fine so this just upsetting. The amount of work this thing needs doesn’t come close to justifying the price.

I am not using it, and I’m not buying anything else from this company.

Fits right on 472 and 500 caddy for an instant increase in horsepower and torque. Used this intake on an airboat engine. love it. Installed bigger camshaft at the same time. Not even the same engine anymore.

Night and day difference.

So far,so good! Well, I have not installed it yet.

It is excellent quality and perfect fit on my 472

ok this is my 3rd an final review on this intake as of right now no troubles with part. just took my Chevelle to Mooresville drag tnt last Sunday much improved over my torker II and old streetmaster intakes.

now remember the reason up until i found this intake it was always a hood clearance issue and had to use these older units. the weiand works 8123 works good and can just get the hood closed with a couple small changes had to turn over cowl seal an un-screw the hood pin to raise hood a little.

On the 1/8 mile I picked a good 2-3 tenths per lap. But with this intake and the comp cams roller rockers i put on the low end torque has increased greatly so now i have even less traction until i can get some tires.

Waiting for Z-Max this summer to 1/4 mile times. Now this weiand was made in china wasn’t pleased about that would have liked the edelbrock Q jet but it wouldn’t fit under hood. but all in all not a bad part.

holley & weiand it would be better to bring the JOBS back to the U. S. PLEASE.

I’ve used many brands of intakes through the years, and this one had the best fit and quality of machine work I can recall. There is some port mismatch, but that is to be expected. I’m using on a 454 with 396 oval port heads.

the intake manifold ports are slightly smaller than the openings on the heads–although they are bigger than peanut ports (if you have peanut heads there is another Weiand for that). I expect the smaller ports on the intake are due to the fact that the Street Warrior is designed for off idle response–not for high RPM racing.

I was previously using a GM aluminum rectangle port intake, with a huge plenum and overly big port openings for my oval port heads. with the Street Warrior, I gained instant throttle response, and even gained an inch of vacuum at the carb.

My application is towing and daily driving.

Building a Ford f350 work horse. So a good low rpm range dual high rise was perfect. On the shelf, had it next day at my door. I do wanna say, that Speedway motors don’t mess around when it comes to shipping.

When I need something yesterday, they get it to me 2 days before.

every thing i have ordered is just as described and shipping has been great also. i would recomend speedway motors to anyone my 63 429 cid falcon is coming together great

Perfect for the look and also kinda stock approach for the engine. I know my engine will only last a year or so from now for my application. And its perfect.

Glad I got one of these while they were still in stock and not back ordered for months. Looks great, goes on good. I put this on a freshly rebuilt 454 with stock 781 truck heads. I did this while it was out of the truck, on a stand, which makes it a lot easier to get bolts started, etc.

I don’t know if it makes much a difference performance wise but I love the fact that it is very light weight compared to the stock manifold. Used the Edelbrock gaskets and manifold bolts. Threads for plugs are good and clean so easy stuff there.

Was a little worried about the gap on the ends in the middle but followed the standard advice of RTV gasket maker to seal these up and so far all good.

Looks good. Excellent intake. Went on as it was supposed to I think. My only issue is it came with nothing. Just the intake in a box. No packing or instructions it was sliding around in the box. I dont know if it was supposed to come with any hardware or port plugs but nothing.

Not that I want them but I am surprised it did not even come with a edelbrock sticker. I gave it only 4 on ease of install because of lack of directions. If there was a rating section for packaging I would give it a poor I dont know how it arrived intact.

I was happy at the ease of buying this big block mani. online. With this purchase I am one step closer to firing up the engine. I had a single plane but this new dual plane will work better for my needs and it is made in the U.

If you have an ls2 intake and are on the fence don’t hesitate, she ain’t cheap but she works.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis MSD manifold came from factory from assembly line looks like a little kid got a hand dremel and tried porting out the Intake Ports leaving holes and scrape marks on the iner walls of the ports.

Called MSD they said is normal from there assembly line. Installed it on the car and dynoed the car didnt make any power at all! Removed it and sent it out for porting and fill in the Port holes made 20whp on the dynoe without tuning it! Now I have a functional MSD car pulls like a Freight Train.

IšverstiShow in original languageInstallation was fairly easy about 2 hours start to finish. Toughest part was the back two bolts. A little disappointed that it just leaves the injector wiring harness laying uncovered.

I was able to 3d print my own brackets and reinstall the stock fuel rail covers for a cleaner look. It’s still snowing, so have to wait on the test drive and find out if there was any performance gain.

11Gears. Still getting it dialed in & shift points. was not able @ the time to keep in 2nd gear&100% lockup pulled about263/275 & 283/95 @wheel figure losing about 80/100HP thur T-case & drive line. This thing is a beast The throttle response its excellent and it still pulls a pound of vacuum @ WOT.

I would Highly recommend this to anyone with a 350 to a bored 400/454 small block Chevy motor.

I bought this product after reading about it in HOT ROD twice. I told myself that if my fuel injection ever went out I would buy the kit to replace my 1986 TPI manifold. Here is what else you may want to know: Summit did warn that this would not fit under a corvette hood.

My application is in a Fiero, so I knew I might have to modify the hood. Somewhere I read that exhaust heat risers through the intake were blocked. This is true. Not really an issue for a Minnesota summer toy.

My major snafu is the fact that no where did it say that the stock large HEI distributor would not fit. Once I opened the box the Holley install instructions do make mention for parts required a “Small Diameter Distributor( such as GM small-cap HEI with remote coil)” with no hint as to a part number.

The Holley help desk said they had no idea “for my application”; Ask MSD, maybe they can help. So if your application can cross those hurtles, go for it.

Amazing quality,will seal 220cc heads and very easy to paint,plump up. But make sure you have a small cap distributor. Big cap with coil on top will not fit behind it. Would’ve been better if it came with the vacuum fittings for the plenum.

But still a great intake for TPI cars.

Good fit, quality piece. This is a replacement, the first intake had a casting issue that caused oil to leak between the rear of the intake and engine block.

This is another intake that Holley needs to take one of their 4 barrel gaskets and place on the carb mounting area and see that the area is to small. You will have to port the area in order for the butterflies to open properly and fully.

Even if you run a carb spacer the mounting flange will still interfere with the air flow. The other issue is the heater hose adapter area at the right front of the intake sticks into the coolant jacket crossover way too much.

You will need to install the 1/2″ pipe adapter for your heater hose and port this area also to ensure proper flow. It should match the other side of the intake as much as possible. Take you time and reduce the air pressure to your air grinder in order to slow it down so it will not bounce as much.

Summit Racing sells a porting kit if you need one to do this simple but need task. While you are at it, smooth out the intake runners too.

Here is a beautifully cast dual-plane Street Warrior, a well designed product manufactured under a hallowed name. Nice finish, careful detailing, CNC machining. Good price. I chose to paint mine to stay away from that ‘old aluminum’ look and can’t wait for final assembly to be complete, replacing a single plane (Holley) for the street.

Received weiand street warrior manifold within 3 days of placing order. Good looking manifold at a good price. Came with the coolant passage plugs, that’s a plus in my book. Can’t really say how the manifold performs compared to others I’ve used since it was part of a cylinder head swap.

But would not hesitate to buy another weiand manifold for summit racing.

Bought this intake and the ports are tiny like the factory 454 peanut port size. Basically you will have to over pay for this intake and then spend more to make the ports the same as 427/454 large oval port heads.

I’m not seeing why they call this intake track warrior with those little ports. If you want something nice out of the box that has the same size ports as 454 large oval port heads buy a Edelbrock Victor Jr oval port intake.

Holley buys up all of these well know brand companies like Weiand , Demon/Barry Grant carbs, MSD and orhers then ruins their name by turning it all into low-end china made junk. I will never again buy anything that’s owned by Holley.

I haven’t installed the intake yet as my budget hasn’t allowed for the oval port cylinder heads I plan on using with this intake manifold. However, this is one of the cleanest castings I’ve ever seen, much smoother runners than the comparable edelbrock manifold.

I also like that weiand did not extend the port dividers into the plenum, and they appear to be similar length and height on the good and bad intake ports. I hope it performs as good as it looks, if that’s the case it should make great power on my little 454 bbc.

Looks good and fit my engine with no issues. Great intake for the money. The square bore description was rather vague. It’s either 4150 or Dominator flange, oval port or rectangle port. I’m not sure what square bore is.

They’re 4150 – rec. port if you need to know.
