My husband and I have retired and are just starting to raise beef cattle. This book is an excellent source of information on any health, feeding or overall any info you need to know about cattle. It covers absolutely everything there is to know about your cow.
I would recommend this book to any beginner as well as anyone that has been raising cows forever. Thanks so much to the author for writing such a terrific and informative book!.
I bought this same guide about 5 yrs. ago, and I’ve been in the beef business for about 25 yrs. It is a very informative reference , I’ve used it many times to resolve problems with my cattle and saved hundreds of dollars in Vet bills.
I bought this copy to give to a 4-H er ,so she too can learn to do some self treatment on her cattle. I think it’s the best sorse I,ve found next to a Vet. and reccomend it to everyone in the beef business.
History Angus cattle are by far the most popular beef cattle in the world. The reasons are many, including early maturity, large size, good herd health, and of course, tasty beef. But perhaps the greatest advantage Angus cattle have is a result of centuries of breeding among near perfect conditions in their native Scotland.
Based on cave paintings of hornless cattle, some experts guess that Angus descended from bovines that were indigenous to the British Isles. In any case, northern Scotland is a good place to be a cow.
The Atlantic Ocean moderates air temperatures, keeping winters less frigid and summers temperate, allowing cattle to spend much of the year in an ideal climate. Regular rainfall keeps the grass green, and despite the hilly geography, there is no shortage of good grass.
All it took to turn these natural advantages into the world’s most popular beef cattle was the tenacious efforts of 19th century Scottish farmers and breeders.

bag of beef cattle mineral from Purina Large particle size.
We are a commercial beef operation in SE AZ. Trying to find a mineral supplement product that is not 80% or more sodium chloride is difficult. Had read about Wind and Rain and wanted to try it for a few months to a year.
It seems to be somewhat difficult to obtain regularly in any local stores. Had 4 bags from last year that I never put out due to this issue, so finally ordered some more and have just put it out. Not following directions, I wanted to see what the cows would do so using a three compartment feeder I put this product in one space, loose trace mineral salt in another and mixed the two in the third.
Next day the animals had consumed about half the TM salt and maybe 10% each of the other two compartments. I will switch them over as they finish the salt. This isn’t the best year for experimenting as it was a good wet winter and spring so everybody is already in pretty good shape.
I will observe how they consume it and if it addressed the problem of inappropriate trash consumption. Calving percentages seem fine, most stay in good health but they pick up roadside trash, eat asphalt, bones, wiring, windshield wipers, and even chew on gate chains.
I have been buying this for a season now, less waste due to wind and climate issues. Free choice for cattle. They seem to use less. Puts money in my pocket compared to other brands that seem to blow off and deteriorate with moisture.
Cydectin moxidectin pour-on for beef and dairy cattle. Antiparasitic. 1 liter treats 40 550 lb cattle. For the treatment of infections and infestations due to internal and external parasites of beef and dairy cattle.
We’ve been using Cydectin for years on our Longhorns. Not only does it protect from worms but helps with the flies for a little while after application. Super easy to just pour on or spray with the gun.
Cydectin (Moxidectin) is a pour-on is for the treatment of infections and infestations due to internal and external parasites of beef and dairy cattle. Cydectin is a ready to use topical formulation that helps control against roundworms, lungworms, grubs, lice and mites, it also provides seven days of persistent activity against horn flies.
Available in 500 ml, 1 litre, 2. 5 litre and 5 litre bottles.
Won’t ever be without Cydectin cattlepour-on for treating barberpole worms in my goat herd. Nothing else touches this parasite. Been using this for 8 years now as an oral dose. And although it sounds brutal, it works with great success.
I have been using Ivermectin for about 4 years but after noticing that some of my herd looked poor. I took a sample to the vet for analysis. Some or all of my herd had worms. The vet told me that some of the parasites had become immune to the Ivermectin.
The vet told me to use the Cydectin. I used one dose and 3 weeks later had another sample analysed and the parasites were gone.
This product was especially effective against flies when I used it last year, and has proven effective again. It’s a simple application process given the Qt. bottle design provided you have a squeeze chute.

We feed Purina Wind and Rain Hi Mag to our entire herd of beef cattle free choice year round. The results truly speak for themselves. Shiny coats and great body conditions! And when they hear the bags rattle they all come running!.
With black pepper, onion, and other spices added to our Chain Reaction formula, our Cattle Drive seasoning (4. 3 oz. ) enhances and brings out the natural flavors of beef. This blend is made with all-natural ingredients, a low salt formulation and a light touch of sugar that helps form a bark that clings to and caramelizes as the beef cooks.
Cattle Drive was originally designed for smoked beef brisket and charbroiled steaks. This seasoning is also great on tri-tip, beef ribs, and burgers with blue cheese! Whether your beef is smoked, grilled, sous vide and seared, baked, or roasted, Cattle Drive is a great flavor addition.
I ordered after seeing the business owners on a QVC spotlight. I decided to go with Chain Reaction because it was described as a more general spice for all uses. We made some bacon in the air fryer and added this seasoning with cracked black pepper.
After removing the bacon from the fryer we added a little maple syrup and a bit more of the chain reaction space. WOW!! The spice is subtle and smoky and just incredible. I have it sitting on my stove so I can try it on everything.
I think this would be particularly great on eggs, in a pasta or potato salad, etc. I plan to try it on everything including chicken, turkey and pork. If you buy it, you will not be disappointed.
I first purchased three types of spice from Casa M on some type of Deals promotion on a morning show. I have cooked a lot during the pandemic, and was looking for something new to jazz up the menu. This fit the bill perfectly.
I enjoy having to shake just one or two blends on an item and then let it cook. I especially like the versatility of the spices because l use them on veggies as well as meat and fish. My one complaint would be that I wish all the spices came in a glass air tight container like the fish seasoning.
Love all the Casa Spices. They give your meat great tasting flavor without all that salt. It allows you to add as much flavor to your meat and then you can add salt to taste. The food industry adds way too much salt to food so I love that you can control the amount of salt while adding tons of flavor to your meat.
Will be purchasing more when my inventory runs low. Keep making these seasonings.

PBS has great prices and family owned. They ship fast and have most items needed in stock. I was extremely happy with the sustain III bolus as I’ve used this for many years. It clears up calf diarrhea most often with one dose.
For the past 1. 5+ years, been anxiously waiting for these calf-sized boluses to be available again. These literal have saved a few calves for me over the years. This is an awesome product. Three-day dosing is so helpful to use on calves in pasture.
Honor Show Fitter’s Edge feed is a coarse-textured sweet feed. This is a complete, balanced diet formulated for optimum growth and development of show cattle. It can be followed by feeding the Honor Show Finishing Touch feed.

I’ve been buying this feed show chow filters edge for my 4h fair calves for three years now. My personal opinion is that it is the best feed I can say I gave my feeder calves. First of all it smells amazing and my calves love eating the feed plus they look filled out and good when they Eat it in my personal opinion.
Most people have trouble getting there calves started on eating feed once they are being bottle or fed into a bucket. But once I started them with calf primer 1 they liked eating the feed. when they were done being bucket fed with their milk it was such a great way to start them out on feed.
Once I used that product for the first few months of them being born I then mixed there feed with growenna. Filters edge is the last step of feed I give my calves before fair to help them get the ‘perfect figure’ I like to help them do good in judging and be bought at my fair.
Like I said they love how sweet it is and I like the look of them when they eat it. Long story short I feed my calves the best feed that I think is best for them and what I think makes them look good.
Every bag I open has the exact same look, smell, texture, and feel as the previous bag. The cattle are waiting at their feeders morning and night to stick their head in and go to work on it. Even feeding through the hot months in Texas, I haven’t had a single calf slow down consumption, much less go off feed.
I’ve never had this success with other grower show feeds. There is a direct correlation between how they eat and how they look. They have maintained bloom & freshness through the hot months when we are used to seeing cattle struggle through a stale phase.
Fitters edge is the most versatile feed I have ever used! We have fed several other brands of feed but we found our sweet spot with fitters edge and using pre con as a supplement. Our base ration is 2/3 fitters edge and 1/3 pre con.
Then we adjust from there using Ultra Full and Depth Charge as we feel is needed. Our cattle perform so well and show major changes when we adjust their ration.
NutreBeef Grower Finisher feed provides supplementation to support growth and development or help improve the body condition of cows any time of the year. The high-energy textured feed from Nutrena is designed to get cattle eating when their appetite is reduced due to stress or weaning.
Complement the forage available to cattle to help improve the body condition of cows any time of the year.
This is the 3rd time I have gotten this feed and it is moldy and musty and off color. I will not longer be purchasing this feed from Farm and fleet of Rockton, IL. Once should have been the answer to not get it again.
Will be looking into different feed. Nutrena feed has really gone down hill.
Used to be a great product. But i have had 3 times of picking up this feed and it was moldy, musty, and green. I will no longer be buying this and look into a product else where. Moldy feed maybe work for some people, but I will not be feeding it to my cattle.

The Purina Rangeland 30-13 Beef Cattle Protein Supplement Tub is a free-choice supplement designed for beef cattle on forage diets. The low-moisture, cooked molasses cattle protein supplement enhances intake and utilization of available forages while reducing labor.
We live on a ranch in South-Central Texas and currently have our property under Wildlife Management status for our ag exemption (no livestock). I have been feeding these protein tubs by every one of out hunters’ deer feeders for about a year and the deer love it.
These tubs provide quality nutrients to the deer and save me money because they last much longer than deer blocks.
Helping calves get more nutrition from homegrown forages, Purina All Natural Protein Stocker Grower, offers balanced protein. An all-vegetable protein source, Purina All Natural Protein Stocker Grower, is formulated for producers that prefer feeding only vegetable proteins to their livestock.

Been buying these for our cows and goats for several years and was pleased with them. However the one I bought several days ago was different. When the liner was removed the feed seemed moister but didn’t realize how much.
The next day three of our kids got stuck in it and were in obvious distress. Luckily we were able to rescue them by using very warm water.
I buy this product and absolutely love it!!!! It is easy to pick up and move around and my kids are able to help with it. My cows absolutely love this product. I wish some of the other tubs came in smaller tubs as I do have back problems.
Otherwise I love the product and enjoy using others.

I was convinced to switch to SteakMaker by my elevator, glad I did. We finish our share of Holsteins and boy does it make a square looking critter. When I talk to those guys that say “it takes to long to finish a Holstein” or “they don’t make good beef” i always bring up 35/0 steakmaker.
We have been using this product on our steers for years and have seen multiple benefits from it! Combined with our feeding program we have seen better gains and value in the meat we sell. The steers love to eat it!.
Our Purina feed guy told us about it,as well as a few delivery guys who feed it. All had good things to say, so we went to a few farms to see what some of the cattle looked like. We liked what we saw,and we will be feeding Steakmaker on our 500+ head operation after coming off of a Purina grower pellet.

Have used ALLFLEX tags and tagger for decades. My local Coop has limited supplies of color and number. I have been using VALLEY VET to provide tags, syringes, needles on a recurring basis. Supplies arrive when promised and are packaged in a very professional manner.
Disappointed in the size of the ear tags. From the picture on the website it looked like a normal sized ear tag for cattle. In fact the item was labeled as “Global Numbered Medium Cattle ID Ear Tags”.
A medium sized ear tag for cattle should be larger than 1 5/8″ wide. A customer has to go to the last paragraph on the website to find the size and the sentence “Medium Allflex Global ear tags are for use in all livestock species, but particularly suited for calves, hogs, goats, sheep and ostrich.
Thank goodness they have a large variety of numbered ear tags on hand. Love that I can identify the year replacement heifers are kept. Numbering lasts for years and is another great tool for ranchers to use.
Cattle for beef is a conclusion that is reached after taking into account many factors. The most important factor is the taste of the beef. The cattle must be healthy and well-fed in order to produce quality beef.
The cattle must also be raised in a clean and safe environment. The cattle must be slaughtered in a humane manner in order to produce quality beef. The beef must be properly processed in order to produce quality beef.
