17 Best Cedar Grilling Planks (2022 Updated)

Grilling salmon on a real cedar plank made in the USA. instead of the sprayed on cedar flavor planks that can be purchased in the local big box stores that came from that far away country across the Pacific ocean, is the only way to grill.

These planks are great! I’d never planked meats on the grill before, and even my first attempt turned out pretty well. Subsequent experiences once I got the hang of it were wonderful. These planks are the same quality as those I’ve seen at local grocery stores selling at 2/$7! I’ll be back for moreof these!.

These planks give amazing flavor to grilled fish, especially salmon. The plank is long and I use my large roasting pan to soak. Place a heavy wine or liquor bottle on top to keep the plank fully submerged.

I find submerging for several hours really helps, although it can be done in less time. Followed the directions, set plank over heat for 5 minutes to allow the smoke to release. I season salmon using my favorite dry rub, other fish I season with sumac and pepper, always place thin lemon slices on top.

I do like to lightly brush the fish with olive or grapeseed oil to prevent it from sticking to the plan. I find that I can use each plank 4-5 times. Because the bottom chars, I let it cook and then place it in a plastic baggie and store in my grill cabinet.

These Weber planks are the best I have found. Thought they are large, the size is perfect for cooking a full fillet or 4 six-ounce center cuts. Petrale sole is amazing on the plank, fresh trout and catfish as well.

This really makes grilling fish so easy and so flavorfull that I’ll never cook fish on the grill any other way again! Guests have noticed the amazing flavor, not to mention the aroma while cooking.

Adds perfect flavour to salmon! I have used frequently to impresses visitors. They are only one use but that is fine as I am not smoking everyday.

These planks are just the right thickness to properly cook a full salmon filet. Follow the instructions and you cannot go wrong! You will probably have to use a sheet cake pan to soak them, as they are long.

Put a wine bottle on top to hold down and you’re good to go.

The larger size planks such as this one work well for me as I frequently grill salmon. These are a bit thinner than the ones I have used previously, but that had no negative impact. I do only a short soaking or maybe only let the bottom soak, but these held up to gas grill heat very well for me.

Even on an occasion i accidentally left the grill on until the gas ran out it never caught on fire to my surprise only charred somewhat. Thumbs up for me.

Great for grilling salmon, I soak them in wine most of the time for an hour or more before grilling and then put them on the grill until they get crackly that’s when I add the food!

this grill is excellent and very light it does not weigh anything you can transport it easily admwas ea very faculty of cleaning we find cooking with the family here and everything is very well cooked

My item ordered on 17 February still hasn’t arrived! Nearly 3 weeks. Disgraceful considering I paid £6.50 delivery which is well over the standard UK delivery charge!

Followed directions, bamboo sheet tore while trying to wrap the kabob. Really didn’t notce much difference in taste

I bought a couple extra of these wraps to wrap and keep on hand in case somebody pops on by during the holidays. I can rest of sure it’s a gift that anybody can use. I know my friends and family can actually use them no matter what they’re cooking skill level, as opposed to getting a gift for somebody that just collects dust.

Amazing product!.

I use the wraps for salmon on the BBQ, and it comes out with a subtle flavor (I prefer the alder to the cedar, as the cedar is overpowering with the flavor, the alder is much more subtle). It also cooks well, and seems to absorb some of the excessive oil of the salmon.

This is definitely our preferred way to BBQ salmon.

The best thing I like about food is finding new flavors, like mesquite or wasabi or Campari. This cedar plank cooking promised a way to kick up the grilling we do all summer. You’re clearly meant to use it to enhance a nice salmon steak or maybe swordfish.

I don’t normally spend so much on fish, to be honest, and don’t usually grill it. It’s more trouble than beef, the way it tears apart when you flip it or try to plate it. But I have a way I thought might make it easier and affordable.

I bought frozen haddock, peeled off the cardboard box, and dropped it into boiling water for 20 minutes. Normally that’s it, with dipping chunks into butter and lemon like I’m eating lobster. But this time I transferred it to the cedar plank that’d been soaking in water.

And put the whole thing on the grill over hot coals. The cedar wood steamed up into the pre-cooked fish and also made it easy to move without sticking. The thin cedar plank unexpectedly held up, and might stand another go.

The result was a definitely discernable new flavor. Next time, I’ll throw the used plank wet onto the coals, close the lid, and see how that works. With burgers.

I have never tried using a wooden plank to cook on the grill before but the idea intrigued me so I gave it a try. First off you have to soak the plank for a minimum of 1 hour but it said overnight was ideal so I soaked mine overnight.

You will definitely need a large baking sheet with sides to soak easily. Or a large open sink so the entire plank fits inside. I decided to try boneless chicken breasts for my first attempt, so after seasoning my chicken I placed 2 breasts cut in half on the board and put it on a pre-heated grill.

The steam instantly started coming off the plank and I closed the lid. I kept a close eye on it mainly because I wanted to make sure the plank didn’t catch on fire. I’m glad I did because what I really noticed was the chicken cooked much faster using this method! I have to say this was probably the best chicken I have ever had.

It stayed really juicy and the flavor was amazing. It had a very light smoky flavor. Not over powering at all. I will definitely be using this method again and can’t wait to try a steak next!.

Used these over the summer to make some really tasty haddock. So glad we got them! So easy to use and added that much needed flavour we were hoping for!

I think it’s great it’s handy help a lot and very light to take it everywhere I love I need it And my mom would help too much with the grilling thing and stuff I still want to learn to cook very rich and this would help me too much, recommend.

I bought this along with the raised bed corners offered at Gardener’s Supply about 5 or 6 years ago. They are holding up fabulously! I have 3 large and one medium sized one and an elevated raised bed.

I oiled the wood with some oil that I also bought through GS the season that I set them up and this year I remembered to oil them on the outside for the first time since setup. The wood still looks great and not breaking down at all on the outside or inside yet.

It seems these will be super long lasting investments! Worth every penny!.

I bought 11 boxes of these cedar planks to make a lob raised bed and I am SO happy with my purchase. Aesthetically, they look beautiful. I’m going to apply oil on them for protection as well, but right out of the box there were very few minor imperfections that did not affect the overall functionality or looks! The boards are straight and strong – I was able to get everything drilled together with no cracking or bowing.

And for cedar, I thought the price was quite fair.

Bought a house with a raised wood bed. The wood they used only lasted 4 years. Then we had to rip it out and start again. These cedar planks should last much longer. They are high quality boards. They are pricey though, so we put these on the bottom (they are actually about an inch into the ground) and bought cheaper wood at the lumber yard for the top planks (our bed is 2 planks high).

It looks great.

This was a gift for my father-in-law, who loves to grill. He tried out the maple plank with pork chops and said it gave them a wonderful smell and even better flavor!

Be sure to read the description. These are big enough for a couple of fish sticks, that’s all. I returned them.

These are fantastic planks. We used them as a disposable for an event. We branded each plank with the event logo and served a surf and turf dinner on them. They are thin with ample plating space for any entree.

I would not recommend attempting to reuse them and would consider them a single use product. I am not sure how well they will recover from a washing cycle. Not to mention they are very dry and absorb liquid from food very quickly.

However, for a single use product to make a statement for an event or party these are perfect! I would recommend this product. Creativity is the only hurdle with these neat planks!.

We have investigated several options for plating at our shop and this is one we are trying. The planks are a good size but they do come quite unfinished and are pretty thin. I don’t think they’re a bad value, however, if you planned on using this for plating and not cooking on I’m not sure it is the right option for you.

We will see if anything changes after we’ve varnished them and I will try to update this review.

These are great for salmon. We soaked them the night before using them and then used fresh ones for presentation. They add great flavor and look great!
