20 Best Ceiling Fan Motors (2022 Updated)

We had one of the spitfire fans at our previous home and bought two more for our new home based on our positive experience. We had 8ft ceilings in the master bedroom and the fan was super quiet and hugged the ceiling perfectly so it didn’t look out of place.

The thing I worry about most in a ceiling fan is “the wobble” and there is none of that with this fan. I bought the weathered gray blades which are very stylish. The only drawback with those is that they are rough to the touch so are a little hard to clean and remove the dust.

Other than that, they are a great value for all their wonderful features and options.

I have been underwhelmed with this fan. The fan is loud. Not from the wind it creates, but the motor itself is loud and intermittently makes a whom whom whom sound (mainly in the middle of the night so it wakes me up).

I have since purchased a noise machine so I can hear a more steady white noise so the fan doesn’t wake me up. The motor also seems very weak. I got the larger blades but it seems the motor is more likely suites for the smaller ones.

I’d return it if I could but once you install one of these it’s basically yours forever.

Did a lot of searching for fans for a downstairs remodel. I wanted two identical fans but in different sizes. I was originally considering Bigass Fans but couldn’t justify spending the money for that brand (especially since I needed to purchase two fans).

These were the closest and am very happy with the purchase. On a side note – I also wanted fans that would work with my smart home setup – these fans ARE compatible with Lutron Caseta switches (just do not install the wireless modules – hard wire fans directly to switch).

Wonderful fan! We have had it operating in our home for about 1 month. It is VERY quiet! It’s style is perfect for casual yet contemporary spaces. This fan moves air really well in our great room and in our home office.

We were able to wire it to use with our smart home system by simply bypassing the remote connection when installing. We love this fan and plan on purchasing several more in the coming year.

Great fan quiet and efficient. You need to have some electrical knowledge to install. Follow the instructions or it will make things way more difficult. This is not a typical ceiling fan installation

This fan solved a problem we had—high ceilings, fan mount in front of the TV, but a large room. The fan is beautiful, quiet, moves a lot of air in a fairly large open space. I’ve attached a picture so you can see the space it needs to cover and the dilemma with the TV.

My client was so pleased with how this fan looked when installed. Will certainly be using again on other projects.

The fan is beautiful in my room, moves a ton of air, and the led light is super bright. I installed the 2 fans myself and I have to say, the installation instructions are maybe the clearest, easy to follow I have encountered in my 30+ years of doing home improvement projects.

The fan comes with a remote but I wanted a wall switch as well so I ordered the WR501WH and it was equally easy to install. The wife and I are both very happy with these.

We purchased two of these for our living room and kitchen areas. They move a lot of air and are very attractive and quiet, but the blades on each are of uneven width (can see the difference just by holding up blades to each other), causing both to wobble at all speeds.

For such a pricey fan, this is just poor craftsmaship. We have a 24″ downrod on one and a 36″ downrod on the other, and we had these professionally installed. Perhaps with just the 6″ downrod these come with, the uneven blades wouldn’t matter, but with any added length, they throw the whole thing off.

Would not recommend.

Purchased 5 of these fans. They look great. Note, the blades are not wood, they just look like wood. High quality faux finish. But, we have had a devil of time with these fans in day to day use. Purchased 5 for a big project.

One was DOA. Two others had bad remotes. Got DOA & remotes replaced after much hassle. Now less than 18 months into ownership, two of the motors have developed loud “knocking” noises. Contacted Minka Tech support – was bounced around to 4 different people, and then finally quoted 8 weeks to get an RMA replacement.

We purchased some Kovak lighting (same company), had similar issues with innacurate documentation, DOAs, etc. Beware of Minka products.

This fan looks excellent. I chose it because I didn’t want to spend $1000 on BigAssFan product but wanted a sleek looking fan for a modern family room. One bummer: I did not want to operate the fan via a remote.

I trust my electrician who after installing discovered this fan must be operated via remote. When he tried wall operated, the fan was stuck on a single slow speed. This should be no surprise but blades are plastic.

They feel light a a bit cheap but since I won’t be lifting the fan blades once installed, I got over it. Suppose you could rationalize that lighter weight plastic (instead of wood) adds to fan’s efficiency.

It’s the right motor, and it works. My old motor was more than 40 yrs old before it stopped working, but it had gotten weaker at least 10 years earlier. The new motor is so much stronger, that it works noticeably better.

It is, however, louder. I need to recheck the mounting to make sure everything is tight and that the rubber isolation bushings are correctly in place. If everything looks good, I may eventually run a new power line to put the fan on it’s own switch with a dimmer so that I can run it at less than full speed.

Right now it’s part of a light fixture and always runs at full speed and always runs when the light is turned on. Given the noise (which is understandable), if I can’t quiet it down, the separate dimmer would be good.

I don’t ALWAYS need the fan to run when the light is on, and I don’t always need it to run at full power, but when it does, it REALLY WORKS. At the exhaust vent outside my home, I can feel the air flowing out through the vent, and it’s impressive.

This fan moves a lot of air. I didn’t realize just how degraded my old fan was until I replaced the motor with this new one.

One of my 35 year old bathroom fans finally died and had no luck finding a replacement, until I found a thread in a chatroom saying these motors were direct replacements for the Nutone 8662N, took the chance since Supplyhouse.

com had them for 1/2 the price than other sites, bought 2 to replace both fans in the house. Shipped fast, replaced the motors (also got the replacement fan blades as well), 5 min swap out job and both my bath fans are running like new.

Awesome experience. No home project has ever went smoother.

Purchased two blower motor and fans to replace Nutone bathroom exhaust from the 1970’s. Price was $30 per unit less than Nutone who actually referred me to Supplyhouse. Received in 3 days well packaged, exact replacement, easy plug and play, works great.

This fan shipped pretty quickly and was very easy to install. All I needed was a drill, a Phillips screwdriver, and a knife to strip the wires back. It was balanced and quiet right out of the box. Its neutral look is very modern and was perfect for what I needed since I’m redesigning my room.

The only inconvenience was that the blades have to be installed through a slot after nearly everything else is put together. It’s not hard, but my arms got tired quickly lol. Overall, I love this fan.

Easy to install. Flexability in mounting. Fan runs quite. LED light provides improvement over normal bulbs. However, if you want to dim the LED light you have to have a dedicated switches on the wall for both the fan and light.

Excellent value at this price point. Walmart on line had this popular fan about $20-30 less than most other on line suppliers. Assembly very easy, all parts were there and everything fit. The LED lights were surprisingly bright for the price of this fan.

Fan motor quiet and minimal wobble. Very pleased.

A year ago we bright a Fanimation Spitfire with the 60 inch blades and LED light kit. For our cover porch to replace a cheep Harbor Breeze ceiling fan from Lowe’s. It was in pretty rough shape and rusty.

I love this fan and Fanimation. We have 4 Fanimations at our house a Xeno 56 Damp rated in my bedroom. Two 52 inch Torch’s in my lower level living room. And the Spitfire for our now new screen in porch.

That was a cover porch. And at our old house in IL I had a black 52 inch Fanimation Camview in my old bedroom. That was my very first Fanimation fan that I ever bright.

We have 3 of these fans; one indoors and two outdoors. While they look good, they move almost no air, are woefully unbalanced, and prone to clicking. My entire family knows the click well and turns them off when we can no longer tolerate the clicks and wobbling.

At this price point, all three of those issues are unacceptable. Do not buy.

Installation was easy, product delivered was just as ordered. One fan ran perfectly balanced, second has a very very slight wobble that hardly noticeable that could not be balanced out. Nice fan for the money.

If you use the included remote to turn off the light, at night in the dark, you will find an an unpleasant strobing of the light at a low intensity. If you can sleep under a low strobing pair of lights, which look like a zombie bat coming towards you, enjoy it.

If not, DON”T buy this ceiling fan. To turn the light fully off you must either use the pull chain or cut the power to the fan and light if they are both on the same wall switch. This also means you can’t use the fan at night.

I have bought and installed many of these fans in the past. What got me to buying from Build. com was that I had waited a month from a local lighting store for the same items, and this came directly from Quorum.

For the fan, I have installed many of these fans and they are build way better than any Hunter you find at the box stores. They won’t gyrate with any amount of downrod and they are quiet.

I LOVE the look of my ceiling fans. They give a beautiful soft glow for light, which is perfect for my space because I have recessed lighting when I want bright lights. However, the fans did not come with a remote which leaves me wondering how to change the direction of the fans for summer and winter.

Maybe our old fan was extra terrible, but I am super impressed with this one. Great price, looks super nice, quiet as a mouse, and easy to install. The light cover makes it kind of dim, but I’m sure with brighter bulbs, it won’t be an issue.

We have this fan in our large Great Room with 10 foot ceilings and it’s absolutely perfect. Expensive yes, but I was ok with splurging in this room as it’s the first room you walk into when entering the house, and we wanted the ceiling fan to be just as nice as the furniture and to make a statement.

I poured over so many reviews of so many fans out there trying to find the perfect one but in the end kept coming back to this one even though it was over my budget. This one checked every box for me, from size, to color, to finish, to look, etc.

I am so impressed with how high end it looks, how easy it was to install and how whisper quiet it is, and of course the great output of air! I am so happy i went for it and didn’t settle for some lower price options that weren’t as nice looking.

Highly recommend this fan, it’s worth the splurge!.

We had purchased some Volos fans and installed those, but it was clear the blades were plastic and they looked very cheap. We bought these fans to as replacements, and while I don’t necessarily think of ceiling fans as ‘beautiful’, these are definitely a positive addition to the aesthetic of the rooms, plus they are very solid and very quiet.

The fan has a lot of different speeds and moves a good amount of air. It did take a little while to install and my husband said it isn’t necessarily intuitive, but that’s the only issue we had. We are very happy with this purchase and would recommend.

The Bond Hub is very good solution for wide range of shade and drape control. Has easy setup, very good range and design that is small so easy to tuck away. Hardware is solid and gets 5 stars. On other hand and where it falls short is the app which has limited features and seems they rely on pigging backing to other hubs like Smarthings to do more.

That’s expensive and requires managing another hub. no thanks. To name a few, device tab doesn’t show if shade is open or closed without drilling down, limited icons, and the feature I most need and is ability to do time control for groups.

I was willing to step up to the Bond Pro Hub but same app and price point is 4x higher. crazy. Scoring this at a 2 due app limitation. If looking for solid hardware but don’t need feature rich app it’s a good choice.

I only gave this 3 stars out of 5 because there are some small issues that they should have fixed a long time ago and are still an issue. I hooked this up to a ceiling fan in my kitchen. I have a second fan being delivered today that I will also hook up to it.

My fan is a 6 speed fan with an LED light attached. It is completely controlled by a remote, no hanging strings. The remote has a lot of buttons including on and off for the fan and light, dimming buttons for the light, two buttons for changing the direction of the fan blades, timer functions, and buttons to increase or decrease the speed of the fan by one step each.

This last part bothered me because I wondered how Bond would change it to the speed I wanted to without problems. So I followed the directions and started to set up the remote. I don’t know why, I choose one of the reverse buttons as the first one to set up.

Upon detecting the remote, it asked me which of 2 remotes I was setting up based on this one button. Reading the remote model, I choose the one that matched and the rest of the buttons were set up instantly! This really made it easy for setup as I didn’t know how to set up half of them because the buttons were listed as buttons to set up.

They added buttons for this which I will showed pictures of from the APP. After that, I attached the Bond APP to the Google Home APP so that I could control the fan with my voice. Now what I can do is specifically tell Google which speed I want my fan to be on.

I can say, speed 6, it will set it to speed 6 which was my main concern. The fan can be turned on and off via voice command as well as the LED light. There is even a chart that allows special commands like setting the fan to hurricane force for the high setting.

Commands like low, medium, and high work too. What doesn’t work is the reverse function and the light dimming through google home. Bond’s interface doesn’t allow me to use voice commands or set up voice commands for the buttons they have.

I am stuck with the basic on and off commands or fan speed. When I ask google to reverse the fan, it says that the feature isn’t part of my fan even though it is. I can use the Bond APP to reverse with the buttons or dim with the buttons though, but using the app wasn’t what I wanted as it was supposed to be completely voice command.

After doing research into this, I learned that this was always an issue going on for years that people complained about but Bond hasn’t addressed even though they promised to address. People even asked for API access to create their own work around.

IFTTT doesn’t allow a workaround either. I am guessing that the reverse feature doesn’t work because my remote has a Summer and Winter button instead of one button. As for the dimmer, I have tried a lot of different commands but nothing works (numbers, medium, etc.

). The button names were the first options I used but they SmartThings won’t link to Bond which would have been a work around if it did, It is another feature the company promised to link but hasn’t yet which could have solved a lot of problems.

So I can control the fan speed and turn the fan and lights n and off. I need the APP or remote to change the direction or dim the lights. It isn’t ideal but works enough that I won’t complain too much.

I am not happy with the research I found on future Bond development, because they promised for years they would provide us with features that we need but haven’t come out with yet. I wanted a fan I could reverse on command, I didn’t get that.

The dimming of the lights would have been nice, but I could live without. If Bond was smart, they would set up their API so google commands would access the button names which could be renamed to the chooser’s desired command.

I would love to say, “Hey Google, set {Fan Name} to {Winter}!” Allowing custom names would have solved this but Google integration hasn’t really been implemented like it could have been. So in the end, it works enough but not the way it should.

The Bond Bridge was a breeze to install. The app for android has just been discontinued and a new Bond app is available. Once the app is installed it was simple to setup my ceiling fans. You must have the original remote controls to setup your ceiling fans and lights.

I live in a single story manufactured home so placed the Bond bridge in a central location so it is in range of all three ceiling fans in my home. It works like a treat. The Bond bridge is simply an RF remote controller that is connected through your home wifi.

I have it linked to my Google home app so I can now control all three of my fans and lights with voice commands. The Bond bridge comes highly recommended as you don’t have to upgrade your remote controlled ceiling fans to expensive smart fans.

Overall we are very pleased with the ceiling fan. The blades are darker than expected (or as shown on the website). Also, it was very difficult to install. I’ve installed several ceiling fans over the years and this was definitely the most difficult.

All of the blades are fastened to a circular hub. Then the hub has to be lifted into place and fastened to the motor which is already hanging from the ceiling. Alignment of the bolt holes (to fasten the fan blade hub to the motor) and inserting the bolts that fasten together is very challenging.

I wouldn’t recommend this fan to someone who isn’t an experienced installer.

I bought this fan to install in our great room to help with air movement during both the winter and the summer. The installation was required on a sloped 20 foot ceiling and our concern with potential fan purchase was the potential for wobbling.

When purchasing online, the sales associate was able to provide feedback on the stability of the fan and assist with ensuring we had the correct parts (adaptor and correct sized downrod) to accommodate the height and slope of the ceiling.

Installation was straightforward and we have been pleased with the stability and movement of the air provided by this fan.

We have a large room with vaulted ceilings and our old 5 blade fan really struggled to move air, or while on high, felt like a wind tunnel under the fan. I live in Palm Springs a good ceiling fans are a must! The Windmolen effortlessly moves a ton of air around our large room and does not have that strong down draft effect at any speed.

Do not let the slow RPM fool you, with this many blades it really is efficient and will blow papers off a desk 15 feet away, and always whisper quiet. The the light is very bright and dimmable. Would totally recommend this fan and buying a second one for our vaulted oversized bedroom.

I have installed two of these and would happily buy more. They are quite a bit more than other bargain fans but it is well made, has sleek simple design and has advanced smart controls. I have not experienced any of the pairing issues others talk about – I suspect they are using the separate wall control that with the remote and WiFi features just isn’t necessary.

I had the fan added to my network in no time with the Modern Forms app and then was able to integrate it with my Google Assistant for voice control. The light and fan show up as different devices so you can turn them on and off and dim or control speed separately.

My only complaints are about the install which is relatively simple but could be easier in two ways: 1. There are four substantial screws that secure the fan body to the mounting bracket and the are right up against the ceiling.

I’m sure there are people who didn’t have a long thing screwdriver and found it very hard to tighten them up. If they were even 1/4″ further from the top of the fan it would be a lot easier. 2. You have to connect a lot of wires to the fan controller / remote that is mounted inside of the body of the fan.

Three go the house power – live, neutral, earth – but then there are multiple ones that go from controller to the fan and light, I think these might all be low voltage. They are all pretty thin braided wire connections that you make with wire nuts.

I’ve no idea why the wires for the fan motor and light can’t be put in one connector block that just snaps together – this is how connection for the optional light is done. The would avoid any risk of someone connecting the wrong wires or them coming loose – wire nuts don’t seem optimal for connecting thin braided wire and could easily fall off as you jam them into the fan body or up into the junction box as suggested.

I added electrical tape to mine just got good measure. Other than that if you already have the fan rated ceiling box in place you’re only going to need 30 minutes and a screwdriver to install this. Setting up the WiFi connection after took me about 5 minutes, I didn’t even need the MAC address as suggested in the instructions, the Modern Forms app found the new fan without any issue (make sure you don’t have a VPN running on your phone though, it may block detection of the fan on the network).

I bought 4 of these fans in June 2020, attracted by the clean lines and flush mount. They worked properly for approximately one week. There’s nothing wrong mechanically with the fans. It’s the wall switch and app interface that are the problem.

The wall switches connect to the fans via Bluetooth, but they never stay connected (paired) and are incredibly difficult to repair. Thinking it was the switch, I bought four new ones at my own cost ($50 each), but this did not fix the problem either.

I reached out to Modern Forms customer service, but no one on there end could resolve the problem. The app also only intermittently worked to control one of the four fans. The app itself is plagued with UI and functionality issues: it regularly freezes and crashes.

Needless to say, I’m very disappointed with this product, and after a year and a half of trying to fix it, they can’t be returned. Do not buy this product.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to replace our guest room ceiling fan and now I wish I replaced all of our bedroom fans with this one! The light is brighter than I had expected (so I was also opting to put in some recessed LED’s but we might not need to anymore).

It’s sleek, quiet, looks cool but non-obtrusive. As far as the fan– it’s a perfect size for our guest room, relatively quiet, two thumbs up. Make sure your ceiling is FLAT though because it will be noticeable otherwise based on the long cylinder design.

Oh yeah, the remote control is AMAZING. attaches to the wall hardware magnetically. Super cool. Really, we love it and may be purchasing another soon.

This is the biggest piece of crap fan made. Got a new fan and did not work. They would not replace it but sent a new receiver. New receiver did not work. They wanted to send a 3rd receiver. I am out 2 visits from a Electrician for $225.

00 in which they “WILL NOT” pay and I still do not have a Fan that works. Sending this back and stress “DO NOT BUY THIS FAN AS IT IS JUNK!!.

The bad: the instructions are written horribly. They are out of sequence, the wrong diagrams did not align with the step, and language did not correlate. Luckily my husband has installed several ceiling fans so he knew what he was doing.

In his own words: “I pity the man who has never installed a fan who is using these instructions. ” The good: The fan looks beautiful, worked seamlessly with the included remote, and the app integrated well with Google, Alexa, and EcoBee.

The ‘breeze’ function was a neat surprise, although I don’t know how often I might use it. I did order the wall switch, as my standard toggle switch will disrupt the ability to use the remote and Google voice commands.

Alas, first world problems.
