20 Best Ceiling For Basement (2022 Updated)

I was really skeptical when I purchased this. I did not have a sample. I was in a position where I had to spare as much space between my ceiling and floor. This product was an excellent solution for me and I was extremely happy with the quality and how it looked.

I was able to have a 2″ drop with plenty of room to slide them up in to place. Be aware that there is a direction that they need to be installed because of the pattern and it is noticeable over a long run if one of the tiles is 90 degrees off.

Importantly, it is not noticeable if the tiles are 90 degrees for your outer edges. When I initially saw there was a direction to them I thought I would have to order full tiles for my outer edges and would not be able to use the cut left overs but this was not the case.

You won’t notice the direction being off on the edges. It was plenty strong enough to install 4″ flush mount LED lights without extra support. Not sure about anything bigger but I’m thinking that it could.

Also, it was an excellent solution for going around closets and bulk heads. I had to go as thin as 2″ around a closet and it looks great, being able to cut small pieces like this enabled me to achieve a more pleasing centered look overall as I had quite a large space.

Sound reflection is a little noticeable and I’m sure the conventional tiles would have a little better feel but once the room was full of furniture it really did not matter and was not noticeable. There was more sound proofing to these then I had thought.

Wow! What a vast improvement in ceiling tiles for suspended ceilings. These were used to replace 42 year old ceiling tiles in my finished basement, and it’s like I have a whole new area. They support 3” and 6” LED recessed lighting with no problem and it looks beautiful! My husband did the installation with no trouble.

I bought a single 2’x2’ panel as I was looking for something to use around my window air conditioner. I just needed some 3” wide and 4-1/2” wide strips of a waterproof, easy to work with and good looking material.

No structural strength needed. Cut like butter on my table saw into exactly what I needed and the stucco surface looks like professionally done finishing. Perfect!.

Good quality, easy to install, but should be noted that there is a very very subtle difference in the look (I hesitate to even call it a pattern) depending on the direction of the tile; we didn’t notice this until it was too late and some were no longer symmetrical due to being cut.

As we were cutting all of our tiles to 2×2 or smaller, this was an issue. If you’re keeping them at 2×4 you won’t accidentally turn them 90 degees unless they’re 2×2 cuts or less. The tiles looked a slightly different shade of white when turned 90 degrees.

This was mainly noticeable in daylight coming from one direction; with lights on and more even lighting it wasn’t really noticeable. I’d recommend looking at them by a window before you install, comparing two side by side until you see the difference and then marking the orientation on any that need to be cut or if you did as we did, which was buy the 2×4 tiles and cut them to 2×2.

(Cheaper than the 2×2 tiles).

These PVC tiles are a better alternative to the gypsum tiles (which crumble and break easily) and the fibreglass tiles (which shed glass particles every time you move them), but they are more fragile than I would have hoped.

If you use a pencil to mark a cut on the tile, you will have a hard time getting it off. Magic erasers, normal erasers, and cleansers will make the marks worse, and if you use any pressure when you try to erase them, you will get gouge marks in the PVC.

Some of the tiles had machine marks and grease on them out of the box. One box I received even had footprints on them, and I should have returned them, but spent a lot of time washing them with soapy water instead.

These are great panels, nothing wrong with them! Just wanted to mention though, that they cardboard boxes they come in are super smelly / stinky!! I’ve bought these panels on two different occasions and the boxes were smelly each time.

If you leave it in your basement while waiting to use them, it will immediately fill the place with the smell. Anyways, we love the ceiling panels.

I really thought I had made a huge mistake after getting home and seeing the four boxes sitting on my front porch when I had ordered seven. Then more dread when I emailed and inquired and was told the four boxes were indeed the seven I ordered they were packaged two to boxes to a case! I was imagining regular old \”popcorn\” ceiling tiles when I was told to order these by my fiance so I thought I ordered the wrong product.

Once I got them open I was even more skeptical because they were super thin and plastic. Once I started putting them up in the ceiling and then cutting ones to fit I got really excited. They look amazing and are so easy to cut to fit.

I small score and they snap apart but aren\’t so fragile that they broke when I bent them a little to fit in tight spots. I am really impressed with this product and highly recommend them for your project.

My only warning is they do attract everything. I have dogs and cats and after taking the film off of them they were like a magnet for hair and dust. A Swiffer cleaned them up nicely and a light spray of Bounce static guard helped keep the hair and dust from returning without leaving spots on the tiles.

You could probably use a fabric softener sheet as well. All and all this is a great product that I highly recommend.

Easy to install and gives the space a really nice look compared to the typical ceiling tile. The only thing I would recommend is to wear gloves when you install them or make sure the area is clean. It does pick up fingerprints and any debris you might have on your hands.

It also scratches fairly easy but if you are careful, you can get it installed without any issues and you will be happy you got this product. As for the acoustics, i left the old ceiling tile above these.

It not only made the acoustics better but also saved time and money by not having to discard the old ceiling tiles.

Be careful not to scratch them while installing. These are clean , flexable if you have tight spaces to fit them in. Cut easily for the odd shape corners. Easy to clean. We installed new drop ceiling in area of plant that used to have oily screw machine drippings from pipe and conduit.

Easy to take out and wipe down and put back up.

We had old cieling tiles that were damaged. Nothing available at any home stores came close to matching! The cieling looked like a sloppy patchwork quilt. These had perfect texture and look. Our cieling looks great! The package came intact and well packaged.

None of the tiles were broken. I have spares incase there is ever another problem!.

The delivery of the product time wise was excellent. However, it was packed in a box that did not protect the product. Virtually every tile had damage to it. Fortunately, my carpenters were great and were able to make the tiles work.

Thought I would need to replace my old ceiling with an all new style of tile. But these tiles fit thee existing tiles nicely and replace the old broken tiles for a less expensive job.

I ordered Stratford tiles to use to replace some old acoustic tiles in the living and dining room area of a 1925 Craftsman I just bought. The old tiles were a mess with stains from water damage and the old tbars were rusty and dirty.

The ceiling also only had a three or four inch clearance between the ceiling and tbars to insert the tiles. It was a BEAR to get the old tiles out. The Stratford tiles from Ceillume however, had just the right amount of flexibility to easily flex enough to slide into the old tbars! Even though they look and feel so lightweight and I was afraid they might break if they got too bent in the installation, not one did! They popped right in intact without issues! And even though we cleaned and painted the tbars, there was still some rust on the tops of the bars that wiped off onto the tiles as they were inserted into the grid.

I was worried at first, but the Stratford tiles wiped clean with a wet paper towel without an issue! Everything about this product was fantastic and the finished installation is beautiful! I bought more tiles than I ended up needing, but I am planning to replace a light fixture at some point and will need to cut new tiles to fit around it.

Did I mention they are so easy to cut to size? Just snipped them with scissors! I don’t mind having the extra tiles. I am so happy with the product I am glad Ceilume is getting the money for the extras.

I had to write this review because my experience couldn’t have been better with this product! And the customer service is great! They sent me samples and answered all of my questions on the phone. If you are thinking about getting these tiles, DO IT!! They are so easy to use, flexible but durable, and waterproof, washable and paintable!! You won’t be disappointed!!.

Easy to install and they look amazing. I wish I could upload a picture! Like I mean, it was the easiest install of a drop ceiling I’ve ever don and I’ve done my fair share. I installed the grid and the tiles alone with ease.

I used the metal frame and it looks great. I was worried about a slight colour difference but the tiles take away from that. They are just thin, very lightweight tiles. They bend easily if you need to and then they pop right back into shape.

And you just need to use good scissors to cut if needed so it makes for perfect cuts. Awesome product.

Our church remodeled the dining room a couple of years ago with these tiles. Everyone loved them. Visitors made many positive comments. In remodeling our children\’s church this year we decided to add a dropped ceiling with these tiles.

Lovely. While doing this, we also decided to \’redo\’ the bathrooms and laundry room. A wonderful decision. Everyone is happy. Would not hesitate to recommend these tiles. They are affordable, sturdy, easily installed, and classy looking.

Needs to be better protected for shipping. Most all of the tiles had corner damage. I found just enough in the whole package to complete my project.

First time using this suspended ceiling system. Overall easy to use and job looks great. chose this over the traditional tiles as I needed them to be a little flexible to insert in some areas. Didn’t give 5 stars as would suggest they better bond the white membrane to the fiberglass substrate.

Not happy at all with quality of product. It took 2 bundles to get the number of what I thought were good tiles. When I opened the second bundle at home it had formation cracks that went @ 8″ across the tiles in 4 pcs.

I know this to be formation cracks because I worked for Armstrong for 37 years and ran the forming operation. None of the backs were very well coated with backcoat to help with warpage and sag, so I guess that will be a problem in the future.

Have to say that I am not very proud to see the quality of product they are shipping out of the plant. One last thing is the packaging was horrible, plastic wrap was torn with grit falling out everywhere and both the top and bottom pcs were destroyed.

I know this was probably was shipping damage but it was bad. I would no longer recommend buying Armstrong ceiling tiles.

Fasted I’ve ever received an Ebay item in my life. I ordered on a Monday afternoon and was installing on Wednesday. The boxes were a little dented which broke 3 or 4 tiles inside but I just used the broken ones on the sides so it didn’t affect my buildout.

I would easily give it a five star if they were all in perfect shape though. Definitely worth the purchase.

I needed to find a replacement for a discontinued 20+ year old Armstrong acoustical ceiling tile. After speaking to a Kanopi rep and sharing the current tile details and pictures, he recommended the Georgian tile as the closest replacement.

The tile was delivered in good shape and within the provided time frame. This was a cost effective and suitable replacement that met the expectation of the site and me.

As a facilities manager, finding matching ceiling tiles can be a trail. I went to my usual places to find a match to replace damaged tiles and was unable to. I went online found Kanopi. My matching ceiling tiles were right on the page.

Ordered it and had it within a week. That is awesome! Keep up the good work Kanopi.

Nothing wrong with these tiles except very poor packaging resulting in broken tiles, almost every single edge was damaged. Packaging consists of a thin cardboard “ring” around the edges of the pack of ceiling tiles with a thin layer of plastic wrap.

As the tiles are extremely easy to break and/or damage this packaging is unsatisfactory.

These ceiling \”tiles\” are so light-weight and flimsy. They look really nice, but both the ceiling installers and the electrician were initially skeptical. The problem for the ceiling installers was that NOTHING could be resting on them, so they had to tie up anything that was hanging down.

And, these vinyl tiles are so thin that even if they could have handled the weight, the mylar from the vent was visible through the tile as a dark shadow. Likewise for the electrician who had to figure out solutions for the can lighting.

He really thought even a minimal amount of weight would be too much. Both of them ended up saying that the ceiling looked really good, but we definitely had some stress to work through. There is also one spot on my ceiling that is an alcove.

It has a couple of tiles that are installed vertically. These vinyl tiles didn\’t work at all for that. I can probably figure something out, but the ceiling installers didn\’t want to deal with it and left it for us to do.

I would probably recommend them to a friend, but I would warn them that workers in our area clearly aren\’t used to working with vinyl tiles like these.

I must tell you how ecstatic my wife and I are with your ceiling tile replacements and angle/cross vinyl covers. We redid our basement making a family room with a bar. Through your products we transformed our dingy basement playroom into a breathtaking family room that is being enjoyed by all of my family and friends.

This room has become the focal point of our daily living space and entertainment center. I have never worked with a product that functioned and installed as easily as your tutorials said it would. No one needs to hire an expensive contractor to transform any room they want into their ideal home.

I call our new room the uDecor makeover. Everyone that sees the ceiling can\’t believe it\’s vinyl. When I tell them how easy the installation was to do, they too find it hard to believe. This product is worth every penny it cost and then some.

The ceiling tiles truly transformed the room. They are beautiful. Even though the are thin they helped with dampening the sound. After replacing the old ceiling tiles with these we noticed a HUGE improvement in the smell.

I think that\’s what I\’m most happy with. These are vinyl and won\’t absorb scents or moisture. The only reason why I gave it a 4/5 and not a 5/5 is because two were cracked at the edge. It probably happened during shipping.

We still used those tiles for the areas we had to cut tiles to fit the space, but that was a bit disappointing. The product itself is a major improvement to traditional ceiling tiles. No dust , great sound dampening, great look, and easy to install.

Got these tiles when remodeling my bathroom. I thought they’d continue the rustic look. Lightweight foam panels which actually resemble real wood( you can see the woodgrain). Came with adhesive ( tubes) which went on easiey with a caulk gun.

bi spread the glue using an adhesive trowel and then just pressed them into place. After allowing the glue to dry I applied a quick coat of primer and then painted them. they actually look like real wood.

Perfect.

These panels are so easy to install. Glue it on, super light and beautiful look. With lumber prices sky high, this is a great alternative. Being foam, it’s great as a buffer for sound too. It doesn’t sound proof but it does improve the room’s sound.

I love the wood finish look for my den but it’s great for other rooms too.

I’m honestly surprised how realistic the Foam Wood Ceiling Planks look like real wood. So easy to install, especially because they are so lightweight. We used to cover some previous ceiling damage, rather than replacing the entire ceiling.

These perfectly fit the bill and they make the house so much more updated.

They are very nice tile. Way better than popcorn. They are fairly easy to install with 2 people. By ones self is a challenge. I elected to screw in 1/4 plywood over the popcorn than dealing with the mess of scraping and glue not sticking.

The only problem I have with this is they are not cut very straight if butting together. Then when using the strips in-between the tiles takes a bunch of measuring and cutting to fit the gaps. Strips are wider than the butted together tiles.

Very tedious. Could not figure out how to overlay the tiles as directions showed without getting a very thick corners then tile will not lay flat.

I purchased these tiles for our living room and dining room, covering up an old generic outdated tile. I glued them using Loctite Power Grab adhesive. The tiles look fabulous and really add some class to the room.

I used more adhesive than what was originally recommended, due to the style of the tile and also the texture on the old ceiling. Everyone that visited so far has complimented on the tile. The product came within the next day or two of ordering them.

I have only opened 2 of the 3 boxes, but so far no damage. I love the finished look in the living room and hoping to finish the dining room soon. If you have good taste and want to class up your room with a unique tile, then this might be the tile for you.

These tiles went in our own home that was built in 1913. The walls and ceiling are lath and plaster. We have beautiful cross beams and didn\’t want to disturb these and there\’s no way to hide the cracks and unevenness of the ceiling by paint.

These tiles glued up easy and look beautiful in our home, just like they have always belonged and been there. Thank you.

The website images of this product do not do it justice. It looks superb; far more appealing than the paper or vinyl/fibreglass panels. Super easy to work with, requiring very little clearance and flexible enough not to crack.

The tiles are gorgeous on the ceiling. We used the no nail glue and they seal up very nice.

We installed your tiles in the living room. It was a mess scraping off the old, dirty cottage cheese ceiling, but a cinch to install the panels. What a great improvement. The room feels larger and brighter now.

I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect with the Ceilume Manchester Ceiling Tiles. how they would look in the room. would they be easy to install. turns out, they look GREAT and they are easy to do! They really helped transform the area to a classy living space for us!.

If your room is not the exact dimensions to fit full tiles then you will have to use flat ceiling tile to create some kind of border around the edge. If you cut anything off these then you are left with an opening where you cut, which looks hideous.

Makes sense because they have a profile but not something i thought of before installing them. I would never use them again because i don’t think i have ever seen a room that was the perfect dimensions.

Considering these are alot more expensive, next time i will just stick to the plain flat tiles. I might also remove these and stick them in a room where they will be less noticeable.

These ceiling panels are great. They are not as flimsy as some other panels. Easy to install and cut. I cut them on my table saw. They only thing I found was that I dropped a couple on my laminate floor and they chipped.

So you have to be careful not to do that. They are a little pricey but what a difference they make in my basement.

These tiles look great and very high quality. They are thick and I believe they will work once we install them. My only complaint is that one box we received had flat white tiles. We had ordered black coffered tiles.

Received the order from Dakota Tin in a very timely manner. We ordered the mostly galvanized 2’x2′ pieces to place above our shower insert. As described, the pieces were primarily galvanized. There isn’t any rust.

However, the galvanized look is different on each tile. One even had a green insignia. Also there are several nail holes from where the pieces were attached previously. Some of the pieces were more weathered than others.

Keep in mind it provides contrast. Some of the pieces were lighter and others were darker. If you are looking for a very cohesive look, you may want to pick a different color. Overall, It gives the space the rustic look we were going for.

I recently refinished the basement, converting it into a play room. I had traditional ceiling many of which had become stained, discolored or dated. I replaced them with Stratford tile in latte color with many flush mounted recessed lights as well as the matching grip tape.

This room is now our favorite room in our house. Can easily be cut with scissors or knife very thin. The only disadvantage to this is that it will sag where the recessed light are installed. I had to put luon 1/8 ply wood on top of the tile 12×12 with a 5 inch whole to pop the light through.

Would definitely buy again as well as great customer service.

Stratford ceiling tiles make an unbelievable difference in the appearance of a room. We installed these ceiling tiles in our basement family room, replacing old, ugly acoustic tiles in a grid system.

Not only does the ceiling look so much better, it feels lighter and more airy. We had installed the old acoustic tiles as well, and these vinyl tiles were much easier to install due to their flexibility.

The only downside is that now, with our new beautiful ceiling, the rest of the decor looks a little shabby by comparison. Guess I\’ll have to work on that now.

I love my new ceiling. I took down old acoustic tile and insulation that was more than 40 years old but used the existing grid. I notice that the old tile had soundproofing qualities that this tile does not have.

I don\’t know yet how much this will bother me when someone is watching TV and I am in my bedroom directly above. I installed the tile myself and I am 81 years old. It was very easy to cut with household scissors which was necessary around the edges as this is an old house and nothing is straight.

I had can lights installed and the electrician had no problems. They look great and I am happy.

I recently purchased 175 tiles for room I did. This shipment came in boxes 40 and the final 15 tiles were boxed separately. These final 15 tiles were boxed in such a way that the corners weren\’t protected and every one of them had damage.

Fortunately I was able to use them as pieces so they weren\’t wasted although I would have preferred that they would have been on damaged when I received them.

Our room had a 20 year old drop down ceiling with stained tiles, it was UGLY. Instead of hiring someone to come in and drywall it, we decided to replace the tiles. Tile shopping was hard, until I came across proceilings.

Different tiles, colors and samples. We tried a sample first, the placed an order. We are NOT disappointed.

room looks more livable and less like an \”office\” the translucent tiles are a great improvement for our fluorescent ceiling lights compared t the usual \”beady\” transluscents. They blend in much better.

These tiles are a \”dream\” to install, especially compared to the armstrong compressed paper tiles. they are flexible yet firm. easily trimmed with normal scissors. We have many spots where their is minimal (1\”) overhead clearance due to ducts.

The \”orb\” slid in easily and could be flexed a bit to get around obstacles. The 3 x price differential over the armstrong is definitely worth it. It took a little getting used to the deep vs shallow grooves and have the tiles oriented properly, but even when off by 90 degrees it is no big deal, and it is easy to fix if desired.

We bought enough for a 2nd ceiling and will do when we remake the room in a few months.
