20 Best Ceiling Projection Clock (2022 Updated)

Setup was easy, just plug it in. I didn’t even use the outdoor temperature sensor because it is already picking up the signal from an existing sensor that came with my Ambient Weather weather station.

I like that it sets the time automatically according to the atomic clock in Boulder Colorado. I have one picky thing to gripe about. The projector swivel doesn’t aim low enough to project the time/temperature onto the wall across the room.

I’m not using the alarm functions.

I purchased this for a friend who moved to a different home and needed a way to see the time in the middle of the night. This clock projects the time and temperature of the room. It took a little while to adjust the projector to the level he wanted it.

The extra plus feature is that you can connect your USB line to charge your phone while you sleep. It is a much appreciated gift.

Once you figure out how to set the various functions, it is a really nice clock. The display is easy to read, and it can reset itself if you lose power. Being able to project the time on the ceiling is very convenient.

The only reason this isn’t five stars is that the instructions are very brief. You basically have to experiment and figure it out on your own. There is a website listed for additional information, but it only lists the same instructions.

If you’re shopping for an alarm clock in 2022, then the odds are that you either find your phone alarm ineffective or are looking to cut down on your screen time. You might also be comparing this projector model (the Sony ICF-C1PJ) to its far less expensive brother (the Sony ICF-C1) which runs about $24 at the time of writing and comes in black, without the ugly projector appendage on the side.

I initially purchased the cheaper, basic version but I was forced to return it because I found the volume didn’t blast high enough to rouse me out of a deep sleep. After digging around and comparing some obscure online reviews, it seemed that the PJ version might have significantly higher max volume (15-20 db).

After getting the PJ model, it does seem to be significantly louder—at least for the radio, I’m not entirely sure about the buzzer. Sony clearly thinks the selling point of the PJ model is the projector, but its really small improvements like this that differentiate it from the base model.

I’ve seen reviews complaining that the “back up battery” touted in the base model doesn’t actually mean that the alarm will go off in power outage, just that the clock will remember the time when AC power is restored.

This seems to have been improved in the PJ model, whose manual touts the “No Power, No Problem” system and says the alarm will go off even during an outage. The base model manual, read closely, does not make this guarantee.

The PJ model also adds a variety of nature sounds you can fall asleep to on a timer; the base model only has a sleep timer for the radio. Aside from these functional differences, the models are largely identical with a few aesthetic changes like buttons substituted for dials, and a more sleek and informative screen on the PJ model.

I would say the PJ is nicer looking, but I think the projector is ugly and useless. But if you really want to have this thing shine the time onto your ceiling or wall, it will do it. Personally, I think the projector was added just to try to differentiate this version from the base model and make it seem like an “upgraded” rather than “fixed” version.

That doesn’t mean the PJ isn’t the better model, however, and I’m fine with paying more to guarantee I will get woken up in the morning. I’ve had cheap alarm clocks, which I don’t trust, and a Lofti: an elegant but unreliable piece of garbage whose developers break it with their updates.

If all you really want in life is a clock that will you up reliably, I think the Sony PJ model is a solid choice. There are also some nice features and design touches shared between the PJ and base models.

Both are relatively compact, both have sleep timers for the radio, and the button to turn off the alarm is small and slightly recessed on both models, which makes it hard to groggily cancel the alarm and immediately fall asleep again.

The snooze button, by contrast, is large, prominent, and raised. The snooze also has a rather nifty feature: tap it once to snooze for 10 minutes, or keep tapping it to add 10 more minutes to the snooze with each tap.

The clock will show you how many minutes you are setting the snooze for. So if you really need to be up, you can hit it once for a 10 minute snooze; if you’re not on a tight schedule that morning, you can hit it three times and take a luxurious 30 minutes uninterrupted.

I’ve seen other reviewers complain about this feature, since it opens the possibility of groggily adding too much time to the snooze. Understandable, but I absolutely LOVE this feature. Having the flexibility to decide the length of your snooze on any given day is really nice, and the system is intuitive enough to use easily when you’re groggy.

Okay, that’s three words. Anyway, does anyone use clock radios now with the advent of smartphones? I suspect not. Full disclosure: I don’t even use the alarm feature on this, I use my smartphone, as I imagine most of us do.

But what I do use this for is hands-free time-telling from across the room, or at night, as well as occasionally listening to the radio. Before going to bed, I dim the display to it’s lowest setting and turn on the clock’s projection display.

Super-handy to have the time displayed on the ceiling or in your nightstand )without being blinded). Especially when you need to know whether it’s time to get up and get ready for work soon, or if you can go back to sleep without worry.

Looks great and doesn’t take up much ‘real estate’ on my nightstand either. In short, do you need this? No. But if you grew up having a clock radio like I did, this is a nice update / upgrade to the genre.

And it’s a Sony, so you know it’s decent quality. ‘Two thumbs up’!.

perfect alarm clock I like it! I had the earlier version of this for about 25 years (which was a little bit bigger and heavier) until it finally bit the dust, so I was pleased to see Sony had produced a newer version and with extra functions.

Open the box, plug it in and it finds the right time for you. Display is bright orange and easy to read. The instructions to set the alarm and radio are easy to follow and understand too. As I am now a pensioner and not working I haven’t as yet had reason to use the alarm function but it appears to be working fine and true to sony standards the radio is remarkably clear for something so cheap.

I have no need for the snooze timer or the variable brightness function but it has both if you need them. I will put it through its paces in the coming weeks but so far I’ve only had it 3 days before being asked to review it but so far I am more than happy with it.

I have no hesitation in recommending this as it has everything you could possibly want from an alarm clock and more!!!! 2 people found this helpful.

I’ve used projection alarm clocks for probably 30ish can only comment on the projection quality. I don’t use the alarm. Within 2 or 3 months, the quality of the project has diminished. Sometimes it’s so light, I have to search for the time.

I only want it if I can conveniently see the time in bed. If it doesn’t project a clear image, it’s a small black box that collects dust and here I am, searching for a new one. I only left the review because when I searched BB&B, I had to laugh because the only 4 star review is the one I purchased.

The clock came in good time. It works great !! I like the idea of the time on my ceiling so I don’t have to keep rolling over to see the clock. I like that you can focus the projection. It also has the indoor temp on it.

Which I look at quite often. I enjoy my clock. Thinking of buying another clock for my grandson.

Love this clock. Easy to see day or night. Buttons are easy to see and easy to use. Love the time projected onto the wall or ceiling. Style is nice and modern. Display is well lighted and easy to see.

Radio is clear as crystal. We are in our 70s and seldom give a great review but this clock deserves a great review.

Had minor panic attack when first saw instructions, looked awfully complex, but then looked at quick set up and had it working in no time. LOVE the projected time on the ceiling and digital radio stations.

No fiddling with fine tuning to set the station. Screen easy to read without your glasses on. Can be a bright nightlight or dimmed.

The temperature sensor and the clock are well synched. The display on the clock is terrific and brightness can be adjusted. The auto time/day/year is excellent. The projection arm does not send a clear and bright image to a wall 10 feet away.

It can only be seen in pure darkness. The focus adjustment is useless. I would have liked to have both the time and outside temp projected instead of either or. I have this set up in our master bedroom and does a reasonable job.

This is probably the worst piece of junk I have ever purchase! I would love all of the features of this clock, if they worked properly. First, it is not loud enough to wake most people, and I sleep right through it most of the time, so I have a second on my night table to wake me.

It is so dark, that it is impossible to read the screen in the day OR night, unless you pick it up and tilt it in all different directions for several seconds. The projection on the ceiling works great, and that is why I kept it.

However, now we have had a time change, and I cannot get the hour to change. I can easily get the seconds to change, but I have tried and tried, and cannot get the hour to change. It was always very difficult, and would take up to 1/2 hour to get it to change, but now it just will not change, so now I just know that it is always off by an hour! The time and temperature features seem to work accurately, if you were just able to read them without tilting it in all directions to read it.

This clock is a huge, and now completely useless waste of money! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PIECE OF JUNK!!!!.

I love the indoor/outdoor temperature display and the time display on ceiling, but this clock is much too quiet to wake me, and there is no volume adjustment for the alarm. There is an adjustment for the brightness of the dial, and I have it set on the brightest, but I can barely see it about 2 feet from me or at a distance.

I actually have to put a thin book under it, to tip it so that the time becomes more readable. Also, it was fairly easy to set the alarm the first time, but after one month, it is hard to get it to move when I try to reset it to a different time.

It took over 10 minutes last night to reset it, and by that time I was wide awake. What a headache this clock is. I obviously need to buy a new alarm clock after less than 2 months. Right now, I use this, my cell phone, and a wakeup call.

I want a clock that does the job, without all these backups. I love all the features, and if it did the job right, I would love this clock! This was a complete waste of money.

This clock does everything at a budget price. Easy to set up compared with others. Dual alarms set via switches on the side. It gives a good clear projection in red, and will project permanently when the power supply is used.

The front display brightness can be easily adjusted via the button on top. The only drawback is that the rotation is only adjustable to four pre-set positions each at 90 degrees, it is not variable around 360 degrees.

It looks neat, and isn’t too big. All told this is the best projector I have owned, with previous models by big name brands having major drawbacks.

Does what it says on the tin, projection display which can be set permanently on and clear LED display which can be set with varying background lighting levels. Time automatically adjusts to the correct time.

This replaced a more expensive make projection clock. The LED display on this is larger and clearer. The projected image is not as large and probably less sharp, but still perfectly legible. The overall look and feel of the clock has about the same quality.

Very pleased to date with all the functions of this clock and a delight to see it so clear on both the ceiling and also the dim to bright function on the clock face. I was a bit disappointed that there was no switch on the clock itself to switch off the time on the ceiling coming from projection, but all was not lost, as I found that switching the adapter off at the wall, leaving the clock on its internal batteries during daylight hours does the job, leaving the clock to function normally with no effect on its r.

This is my second projection atomic clock I have owned. My first was same brand name, older model given to me. The projector would not project complete digits. I projected #5 could have been an 8 or 6 etc.

I liked all the other features so I bought the new current model same brand name. First clock shows seconds, not an option on the new one. The first one had a dim warm green glow for the clock face that was always on, not on the new one.

I roll over in the middle of the night and hit the top button to project the time to the ceiling and the face lights up. Literally lights up blue the entire room, wakes up the dog, she rolls over and asks what am I doing.

Enough light to read a book by. Wish there was an option to turn that off. Probably going to buy something different as I don’t want to disturb anybody.

The product is good except for 1. The atomic updating date time is not working due to no radio signal (The radio station is located in Colorado). 2. The projection focus adjusting dial is at the limit.

You can not adjust for more focused. So it is only worth half the price.

It’s lacking a few essential features, I would say. It beeps every hour, and the projection only turns on temporarily (less than a minute). If you’re hoping for something that’ll let you see the time in bed at night without having to fumble with anything in the dark, this won’t quite do, since you still have to reach over and press it down to activate the projection.

The hourly beep also proved a nuisance. The projection itself was very clear and readable, and it’s nice that it can show the date, and allows 24-hour or 12-hour time formats. Oh, uh, it also has a stopwatch feature? So that’s cool.

It can also project the date (or the stopwatch, for that matter), but doing so requires pressing the buttons on the underside. In our case, it’s not quite what we’d hoped for. I hope this helps inform anyone else thinking to purchase it.

This clock was easy to set up right out of the package. The instructions print was very tiny, but very concise. Battery installation was easy with no screwdriver needed to remove the battery compartment door.

I like the fact that you can press the clock down to project the time without having to have the nightlight portion on as well, so the battery life can be very long if you just use it as a clock. The problem I had with this clock is that the focus points are very strange.

The stars and moon only look like stars and a moon if it is about 6″ away from the surface it is being projected upon. Otherwise they are just blobs of color with a color changing base. The time is also out of focus for a normal ceiling.

When I stood on the second floor of my home and aimed it at the entry ceiling about 20′ away, then the time was big, like 15-16″ big, but at least it was in focus. When it is aimed at a ceiling that is 8 – 9 foot tall, the numbers are about 6 – 8″ tall, but out of focus.

I got this on clearance for just over $3 in store at a Walmart, but even for that price, I will be returning it. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless they have a really huge house with massive ceilings.

I wake up at all hours of the night and I always have to see what time it is so I love the idea of simply looking up at the ceiling to see what time it is. The numbers are clear, the perfect size, and very easy to read even when I’m tired.

I also loved the colorful stars and moon that it put on the ceiling. When I struggle to go back to sleep, it was nice to look at that as opposed to my boring ceiling. There are only two things that kept it from getting five stars.

Every 60 seconds, the clock colors go nuts. It was a little distracting especially if you were half asleep. Also, it would be nice to have an option to keep the clock on at all times (with the moon and stars) so you don’t have to reach over and push it.

Despite that, I still think it’s a great product and I am going to look at purchasing a couple of these. My granddaughter absolutely loves it and I think my niece would really love it also. And I will continue to use this one.

The radio signal auto adjustment but seems to work fine but it is too early to see the automatic switching to summer clock really working. The outside temperature is also working but the Tx module seems to be sensitive for humidity therefore the intensity of the signal went down just days after it worked fine — initially.

I had to. put it closer. The main problem I see for now is the extremely small size of the projected characters and the relatively low brightness of it. Strangely the brightness of the image and the brightness of the display back light can not be set separately.

I can not have the back light dim (resulting in darker room) and the projection on ‘Hi’ at the same time. It would increase significantly the visibility of the image.

I was skeptical since I bought another clock from Walmart about the same price, which was horrible (missing digital segments, projected upside down, not very maneuverable to project the time well, the face of the clock was so bright i had a cloth over it).

However I wanted to give this one a try and this one is AWESOME!!!! Best features: -you can rotate the projection 90 degrees at a time to ensure you can read the display ‘right side up’ -it gives temp read out -you can dim the main clock display so it doesn’t light up the whole room at night.

We don’t even use the normal clock face, but it’s there if we need or want it. -this clock is not big and bulky (our previous sky scan clock was big, but we loved it till it broke and we couldn’t find a replacement.

this clock is better though- bc of the 90 degree rotating option on the display). -easy setup -projects on the ceiling easily. you can angle it however you need as well. Suggested improvements: -wish it had a temp read out for inside.

it only displays “outside temp” which is basically wherever you put the sensor (which we use inside). however we’ve had a clock before that had a built in sensor that could read the indoor temp w/o having to mount a sensor.

-the display is in a halo. this is minor but it’d be nice to just have it project the numbers w/o a background halo around it.

A bit of a learning curve but the best projection clock I have tried. We own 3 now! Just keep the instructions handy till you get it right. This is the only reason not 5 stars. The projection is upright on the ceiling and uses red light which doesn’t light up the room at night.

Can’t be seen in the daylight, though. Has two alarms that can be set, each using either music or buzzer with choices as to repeating on what days, etc. This is where I can get confused with the order of setting the alarms.

The clock display is in blue and can be dimmed or even turned off. Radio works great. Favorite stations can be set, again keep instructions handy. Would totally recommend to friends.

This radio is a 10 steps above my old sony dream machine clock radio. I like the projection feature which works well. Also the radio reception is superior. It stays locked on to the stations due to it’s digital tuner.

The sound is a bit tinny but clear. My analog sony constantly drifted and was a major annoyance when waking to radio “noise”. The major drawback is in selecting the features, the buttons are multi-function and I need to constantly review the user guide to to set correctly.

It’s non-intuitive.

It is just what I needed and works just fine. I really like the way the alarm works when the radio is selected. It starts off quietly and slowly increases to the volume I set that way it doesn’t jar you awake.

The projection works great on the ceiling but not so great on the wall. The only negative is the setting for the illumination of the base clock. It has bright, mid and off. I wish there was one that just barely shows the time instead of all the way off.

Amazing! Probably the best clock radio I’ve ever had. The time projector is awesome & because you can turn off the display there’s no pesky light to disturb your sleep. Getting it to turn on was a major issue though.

I almost returned it because I thought it was defunct. After much fiddling & perseverance (removing the backup battery, turning it on & off, etc. ) I finally got it to fire up.

Very easy to set up. The radio sound is of good quality. Dual alarms both display time and alarm mode when set. There are 3 display brightness settings. The brightest can serve as a night light it’s that bright.

Plus you can turn it off altogether if you are using the projected display. The volume for the radio alarm can be set to your own preference. However, the buzz alarm volume is not adjustable. It sometimes doesn’t wake me up straight away as it is not loud enough.

That said I absolutely love this product. It’s the best radio alarm clock I’ve ever had and I’ve had a few.

Bought a few weeks ago, as a replacement for a different manufacturers alarm clock which was not what it claimed. This was thus purchased with some doubts. Will the volume turn down low enough? Yes! Is the sound quality good enough? Yes! will the increasing alarm volume be controllable? Yes! Can the brightness be turned down low enough at night? Yes! In addition to the above it has brilliant features like the time projection on the wall which is not distracting but means you can see the time on the ceiling or wall without straining to look at the clock.

Some good sounds too.

The clock is plastic and runs only by battery. For the money I would have liked to have an electric transformer with battery backup. It also projects time on ceiling, but doesn’t stay on , which would have been nice.

You have to reach out an hit button to make it project. It’s more like a expensive toy that doubles as a cheap clock!.

I love waking up to the sound of the tardis! I was concerned it would not be loud enough, but it is and so much more pleasant to hear than an annoying beeping. As some other folks said, the clock is on the small side, but I that’s ok.

The setting of the alarm is not intuitive and I have to refer to the directions for any changes I am sure I will get used to it.

i could never get my mother in law to use an alarm clock, as she does not like the beeping sound. she always expected to get woken by a person, every morning. well being doctor who obsessed, as she is, i thought i would try a tardis alarm clock.

Bought another to replace one five years old. The projector light “took a dive. ” Everything else worked but that was what I liked the most. Very clear and subtle light. A little hard to program for us “old folks” but we finally got it.

I was in need of an alarm clock, as I am honestly not liking the idea of using my smartphone for that matter, any longer. This little guy is much more than an alarm, and for me a little goes a long way, this clock operates with 3 AA batteries that are not included, has no cable to plug in, and I like that, because I already have many things plugged in all over the house, so I am ok using batteries for certain things from time to time.

It has all that you need for a good night’s rest, I typically use a separate “sounds” machine to relax and sleep faster, and the sounds are already included with this device, on one side of the clock it has all the buttons you need to control everything: to set the time, the alarm, the temperature, sounds, stars, volume.

at the front face of the clock you can see the time, the date, the temperature, it has six different sounds that you switch from one to another by pressing and holding the “sounds” button, and it has a “stars” button that projects star shapes to the ceiling and walls, it automatically stays on for an hour or until you press the same button again.

This little device makes for a great addition to any bedroom, and as a helpful gift to any that is trying to find more natural ways to better sleep.

I was so excited to finally get my projection alarm clock, but ended up being pretty disappointed. It’s battery powered and very simple to set up and use, which is great! The controls are pretty intuitive, but the quality is lackluster.

I was very excited for the white noise/sleep sounds, but it just plays a very low-quality rain clip. The projection is color changing stars from a plastic cut-out, which whole nice, isn’t quite what I was expecting.

This clock is super cute. I love how it puts stars on the ceiling. Also has 6 soothing nature sounds. Perfect to help you fall asleep. The clock was a bit tricky at first to set. But i finally figured it out.

I like how it has the time,date and year also the temperature. This clock takes 3 double A batteries. Not included. I need one for the other room. So we will be buying another one.
