20 Best Cello Tuner App (2022 Updated)

Just received this and compared it to two different Snark clip ons and two other brands. All were tried on 2 acoustic guitars, 3 different brands of electric guitars, and both acoustic and electric basses.

The Korg tuner was by far, the most accurate of the clip on tuners on all six instruments used for testing. More than any other part of the tests I performed, that alone speaks volumes. There are several additional features that are bonuses that give this Korg tuner extra value, in my opinion.

First, you have options of full and half displays of strobe tuning. This can be a tremendous value when you have to intonate a guitar or bass. Second, this tuner uses AAA batteries vs. NiCad batteries, which means each battery is less expensive, and replacements are easily accessible from multiple sources.

Third, the tuner has an automatic shutoff after 3 minutes of non-use. This is a huge battery life saver that most other tuners in this price range do not offer. Overall, a great value packed into a small clip on tuner.

Well done, Korg.

I have wanted a new tuner because my korg one was a bit bulky and needed to be connected to an electric, or balanced precariously on my knee when I tuned an acoustic. The clip ones fit the bill but many use special batteries-an expense plus not always easily found.

One day they will all have lithium ion rechargeable batteries but until then. I found that Korg has a couple models that use a standard AAA battery. (Even better you can use a battery that is rechargeable if you already deal with those sorts of batteries).

It clips on and adjusts view easily. The standard tuning mode works really well. The display is bright and clear. I wish the power switch was with a simple tap (you twist a switch on the left to turn on and off) because sitting on the headstock it can somestime be awkward to get to the switch.

I have used the strobe mode but find I like the regular mode best. A great tuner from a company known for great tuners. I don’t know how others compare but I wanted the convenience of AAA batteries above all else.

1) I am much more likely to have AAA batteries than the flat CR2032 batteries 2) Good Price 3) Tuning has a few modes That tells you how close you are to the Tone 4) I like how it pivots on the hook so its out of the way when I hang my guitar.

5) The power on and off and mode change takes a bit to master but its a good design, that I hope works for a long time because it doesn’t use the traditional button method, the buttons are triangles at each side of the device that you need to rotate clock wise and counter clock wise 6) The LCD is bright and other tuners are not as bright or they lose the brightness right away with the current in the battery, and can stay dim for a long long time.

This one uses AAA battery and I haven’t used it long enough but all the batteries I tested worked and the LCD was very bright. The brightness and the AAA battery made this tuner my new favorite. I don’t know if any other instruments are supported, I just know and use a guitar, read the manual yourself to familiarize yourself with the product.

I was given one of these by a pro musical friend, and I must say it’s a great product. You attach it to the side of the violin body next to the neck (upper left bout) and leave it there. It’s always there when I need a quick tuning, and it does NOT interfere when I put my violin back in the case.

Just put it on and forget it. The buttons work fine, it has + and – buttons to change pitch from the default 440, you can flip the display over with another button, and it even has a flashing metronome (no sound).

Really easy to use, and all these features are great, but if you install it or use it improperly, it won’t survive. It’s VERY small (around 1″ square) and it mounts to the violin with a sliding foot and cam mechanism.

The trick is to mash it down as tight as you can then lock the cam lever and it will be fine. If you don’t get it tight enough, it might fall off, but that’s pretty easy to get the hang of. Another thing, these tuners (and that includes most digital tuners) respond MUCH better to pulling a full, lasting tone on the string with your bow – – NOT by plucking the string! Bowing is MUCH more accurate, and the tuner responds better.

Just physics. Also, keep it turned OFF when not in use, and the battery will last a long time (one of my pet peeves is these people who leave their tuners on all the time, flashing and changing color endlessly).

What a waste! One more thing, the buttons are very close together on top, so be careful NOT to hit the + or – button by mistake or you’ll be tuning and playing OUT of standard 440 before you know it (boy, that’s embarrassing!).

The display is rather small, but bright enough to show up fine except in the brightest sun. Other than these few “DUH” points, this is the best violin tuner money can buy and it will serve you well. I’ve had mine now for 2 years and I play daily and have only changed the battery once.

I highly recommend this tuner, and if you exercise any reasonable care it will do the trick!.

Be careful when placing this tuner on the violin for the first time. If not handled with extreme caution, it will scratch the edging of the top. My advice would be to swivel the head of the tuner completely backward, pull the extension out much farther than the width of your violin, place the two rubber knobs where you want them to end up, then gently, gently push the bottom of the extension upward until it’s snug.

You can now tighten the clamp. Turn the head around to where it is facing correctly. If any of the tuner’s plastic rubs against the violin, it will leave a mark. The plastic edges are sharp. Not being especially vigilant, I now have small scrapes on the finish of my violin.

Great. Arrived on time and safely and was dealt with efficiently and proactively by customer service. Although, within 24 hours my tuner wasn’t working. I thought it was the battery for some reason; bought new batteries.

Worked great; came back to it a few hours later and it was dead again. Disappointing.

So I own a few different Snark Tuners and they have always been my top choice. But ironically, I read a few reviews on other sites that had the same issue I had. This “rechargable” edition is very wonky.

It literally takes a few seconds to CORRECTLY read the tune. It instantly turns on and instantly gives you a reading, but it’s almost always an incorrect reading. Only after about 20-30 seconds of being on, will it accurately read each string.

Then, I found, in the instruction manual, it reads to allow it 30 seconds after powering it on to get an accurate battery reading! That’s just insane. This is not applicable for a live show situation.

30 seconds of waiting for anything in front of an audience, is a lifetime. But if it takes 30 seconds to get an accurate reading of the battery, then obviously it’s still processing information, which makes sense that the tuner is not ready to go immediately.

As far as Snarks other battery operated tuners, they have always been superior, but this one is just not meant for live application.

******BUYER BEWARE****** I read a lot of reviews before selecting the Super Snark product. Most were good but some reviews mentioned the product not staying on the instrument securely and breaking where the stem meets the ball joint.

Not even a month or two later of very careful and light use, it has done exactly what others have experienced. Contacted the seller and explained what happened only to be told they would not offer a refund or replacement stating they have a 45 day policy (the Snark Company has a 12 month limited warranty).

The seller assumed that the device was broken because of user error but hadn’t asked for any pictures or proof before making this assumption. I highly suggested you look elsewhere for a better return policy and take note that of you buy from this seller and this happens, you will be out of luck.

You’re better off buying one that is a stand alone that doesn’t attach to the instrument you are playing.

First, ordered on a Monday, arrived the next day! As usual, outstanding customer service from AMS! I bought this with the intention of tuning my grand piano. My guitar tuners worked OK for the middle octave, but I wanted to get a tuner that can respond to all the octaves.

This tuner works very well. It has a built in stand which is fantastic for setting on the piano and still being able to see it. It is accurate, and the meter is a needle that has 4 settings, slow, medium, fast and manual.

It is also backlit. It works for almost all the notes, but it doesn’t quite read the very bottom or high ends, but that’s OK, since at that point in the tuning of a piano, I can finish it by ear. Perhaps with the optional external mic it may be able to read those notes.

I am very impressed with the quality in such a small, yet accurate tuner. It appears very well made, and has more weight to it than I thought it would. All in all, a very nice tuner and the case it comes with will protect it in my piano tuning kit very well.

I tried both Korg CA-40 and OT-120. They both have one weakness that you need to purchase a microphone to pick up the input sound especially in the range of c6 and above. Between OT-120 and CA-40. I would prefer CA-40.

The digital readout is easy and the number readout give an indication of how close you are. It appears more accurate than OT-120. Initially, I thought OT-120 is more expensive and it might be more powerful or more accurate or more something.

After tested it, I found the ability of accuracy is equal. A microphone to pick up the sound for the equipment is essential.

It really helps when tuning in a noisy environment. Easy to use and very accurate. It is not suitable for tuning the high end octave of a piano. It does the rest just fine. It works great on an organ.

Well built, and a nice case also. Instructions are well written.

Being a sucker for new tech when I saw the demo for these I knew I had to try one. I’ve used Korg tuners for years now so I knew the quality and accuracy would be of the highest order and this one didn’t disappoint.

The method of being able to just strum all the strings and getting a simultaneous reading is super cool and it really does work as advertised with very few false readings or you can still go one string at a time if you choose to do so.

Another advantage of these is the ability to use a AAA battery instead of one of the little coin cell batteries as they last a LOT longer and are easier to find if you need one in a pinch. The different displays are also pretty neat and I found that the strobe works best for me personally but with several to choose from it’s a fun experiment to find your favorite.

My only complaint is that there is no setting for tuning to drop C# (you know, drop D AND a half step flat so if you need that particular tuning this might not be your first choice), however it does have many other common tunings, including standard drop D and multiple flat settings, just not both at the same time.

Other than that this is a great tuner and very unique. Just remember to mute your bass when you use this, otherwise when you strum all 4 strings at the same time you’ll make a heck of a racket and people will give you funny looks until you explain what you’re doing!.

Absolutely great tuner for my 4-string at home. Simple to use and accurate. However I bought this specifically because it advertised extended range tuning, which I need for my 5 string. The display cannot be set to add any more strings, it is locked at 4.

The paper inside the box makes no mention of tuning an extended range instrument either. Also the frequencies from my 5th string sometimes register on the 3rd string on the display. I have to be very careful to silence all strings and hold the 5th fret to tune it.

I would definitely not use this on-stage, it seems way too sensitive. Not very happy with the way this is advertised, especially for the price.

Very good headstock tuner. Tunes very quick/stable and has excellent visibility. The quality of the plastic is questionable. For the price this should have come with a protective case. In and out of venues and daily use, time will tell how well this will hold up.

I’ve never written a review of a purchase before but I have been most impressed with this device. Although tuning a guitar is much simpler and more accurate than it used to be this product takes it to a new level.

Although initially it seems a little complicated, it’s easy to use for basic tuning. I haven’t tried alternate tunings but I’m confident that it will function equally well with those. A bit pricey but I’m very pleased with the purchase.

I’m a gadget freak, so this naturally caught my eye, especially since I’m a working musician. I found a factory refurb Roadie 2 here on eBay for $99 so I ordered it. I was able to use it right out of the box and it’s not extremely difficult to get it operating on a 6 string guitar.

My main goal with this thing is to use it on my S10 steel guitar but haven’t looked into the instructions on how to set that up yet. I tried it first on a Telecaster. It tells you on its screen to start with the E2 string (Low E) and I placed it on the E2 tuner key and plucked the string to give it some signal to work on.

The motor unwound the string about a half step down because I have the option set to always tune going up, then it tuned up close to E then made a couple of fine adjustments to get it very close. When it feels it’s smack on E the LED turns green and gives off a vibration to let you know to move on to the next string.

Only problem I had was that the tuning was “pretty close”, but not exact when compared to my strobe. This will probably be a good thing to use when restringing a guitar, but the inexpensive Snarks are faster and probably more accurate for “on the job” tuning.

I was skeptical when I read the Roadie 2’s ability to accurately tune guitars, so often things don’t live up to their hype. Plus, my husband is very difficult to buy gifts for. When he mentioned he’d like a Roadie 2 tuner for Christmas, I quickly ordered one.

It was shipped free to my house within the quoted time and was wrapped and placed under the tree in time for Christmas. I felt anxious as the Roady 2 was placed on the tuning pegs of his guitar for the first time, but within seconds, it was perfectly tuned.

He smiled, then explained the features included with the Roadie 2: an iOS or android downloadable app; it’s capable of tuning several stringed instruments, all of which can be easily chosen by pressing a button on the Roadie 2 and scrolling through the instrument list; it gives the user the option to choose between instrument makers to achieve accurate tuning.

But, best of all?? It’s so much easier on his arthritic hands! It’s a great gift.

At first I thought this was a gimmick. And I was a bit too prideful to really think I needed this. But for someone who performs live weekly, this is Roadie Tuner gets me in tune and quickly. Has a bit of a learning curve, but the app is really easy to use and setting up my tunings didn’t take long at all.

I couldn’t wait for the Roadie 3 to come out. Once it does come out, I’ll use this as my home tuner. This tuner is legit.

This company makes other mods too but this one is the most versatile. It will tune everything and with an update in late 2019 it has a mode where is able to be more precise. It takes a little longer (still much quicker than tuning by hand) but it’s very accurate.

Really like the Roadie,fairly easy to use but,the enclosed quick start manual refers you to the website to download the full manual on PDF. It is the same as the enclosed manual with no additional info.

I think a more detailed & comprehensive manual would help the older “tech challenged” folks like myself. Still a great product and I would buy it again.

I have two of the GA-2s and one of the much older CA-2? (don’t have it with me but it is silver with smaller display). I have had the older one since 2004 and still use it. I do have a rubber band to keep the case closed (have opened it many many time to change batteries.

I used it exclusively from 2004 to ~2016 and use it about 40% of the time now). I use the GA-2s mostly for 4-string bass (my primary instrument) tuning but also for my electric and acoustic guitars. I keep one in each bass case.

Batteries last a long time. Devices have never failed me. I tried two different head stock USB (for charging) tuners and both failed within 6 months. Went back exclusively to these Korg tuners. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the newer ones don’t seem to work as well for tuning acoustic guitars via the mic as the older one does.

Still quite usable. They do the job for a good price.

I was looking for an easy-to-use tuner that would allow me to change the key for tuning for my 12-string guitar. I had other more-expensive tuners that would do this, but they required multiple steps to do so.

When I saw this one had single-button key changes, I had to try it. As soon as I got it in I grabbed the guitar, plugged in the cord, hit ONE button and the tuner was set up for the half-step lower tuning I needed, easy as pie.

As soon as I finished up, I hat ONE other button to return it to Standard tuning, plugged my bass guitars into it and tuned them up as well. This could not be easier, and it’s exactly what I needed. I gave my much more expensive tuner to my son as I was so happy with the KORG.

This is an amazing tuner that does what it’s supposed to with no issues. I would recommend this over a standard guitar/bass tuner since it can detect pitches that fall outside the range of standard tuning since it is chromatic, and that means it suits alternate tunings.

The flip out stand on the back is also a great feature. I have the tuner propped up on top of my amp and it looks as great as it functions. Having an input/output makes it even more versatile since you can leave it plugged in to the amp all the time and not worry since it has bypass which means sound passes through even when the tuner is off.

And if you have an acoustic guitar? No problem, this tuner also has a built-in microphone. The only downside is that is has no illuminated screen. Unfortunately is seems Korg does not offer an illuminated version of this model, but you really can’t complain as this is one of the best tuners you can get at this price point.

I bought it for my French horn. It seems to work fine, and even though the position of the display can be adjusted to several viewing positions, I can’t seem to find a way to view it successfully while I am playing the horn.

I buy these and the super cheap tuners for resale. That way if they want cheap or student I give then a cheapo, but if they are a pro I sell then one of these.

I have used this Tuner for many years and it has been very dependable. I recently bought another one. Even if this tuner is slightly more expensive than some Chinese ones this works better and feels more accurate.

Make sure that batteries are fresh.

I’ve always used Korg tuners over the years since I started playing and have yet to be disappointed. The Korg CA-50 is a solid little tuner that’s very simple to use and has everything you’d need out of a tuner.

For me, this was an upgrade from my last Korg tuner since it finally died after something like 10+ years? These things are pretty well built and will definitely last you for some time. It’s got all the feature you’d expect from your average tuner and even has a mic for tuning non-electric instruments.

The mic picks up pretty well and I’ve never had an issue tuning an acoustic with this thing. It’s also very small and compact and will easily fit into your guitar case or however you choose to transport it.

I may be a wee bit biased since in all of my years of playing, I’ve only used Korg tuners but why fix what isn’t broken as they say? Never had any issues and Korg always puts out a solid product.

Not only tunes your instrument by sound of pitch but also vibration. Very handy. Highly recommend it.

EXCELLENT PRODUCT; THE ONLY ONE I’VE USED THAT LASTED FOR YEARS.

I’ve happily used the previous model for several years, and I like this one a lot, too. One good feature is that this is one of the few tuners that goes down to A=410, so there’s a lot flexibility for baroque and early classical tunings.

(Many tuners only go to A=435. ) Also, the AW-LT100, has a much better screen than the previous model. A drawback is that the on/off switch activates very easily, so that one must be careful about carrying it around with other stuff that might keep turning on the tuner.

Though it does have an auto-off capability after a certain time. There’s no mention of a mic, but the tuner does also work when clipped onto my music stand.

The product description says this unit has a metronome. It doesn’t, but I just wanted a tuner anyway.

Over the years I’ve accumulated an embarrassing pile of tuners of various types and when my Snark go-to began to get dodgy I began the quest for yet another tuner. My initial purchase (based on a recommendation from a Berklee instructor) was the TC Electronic Polytune clip.

That purchase quickly became an exercise in frustration as the buttons are all but impossible to find in a performance situation and the polytune function isn’t accurate. I had initially dismissed the TU-10 because the display doesn’t swivel but I decided to give it a try.

Quite simply, it’s a great tuner. It’s easy to position and see, despite the lack of a tilt or swivel head, it’s easy to turn on and off and it’s quick and accurate. Even better, one has the option of always on or auto shut-off modes.

Odd shape doesn’t lend itself to all instruments. Kind of perches right at the end of the strat. Seems a bit more fussy than snark to nail the note and is also often hesitant to even recognise top e.

On/off button is way too small. Haven’t tried the pitch options yet. It does what should I guess.

I’ve had a few of these. I just got another to keep with another guitar. Compared to the Snark and a few other clip-ons that I’ve used, it’s the most accurate and has outlasted all the other ones. The battery lasts a long time, it’s lit well enough and it can take a beating and keep on working.

I’ve dropped it a number of times. Which brings me to my only minor complaint and that is it is ergonomically a bit hard to handle. Also, not great for clipping onto a small headstock like a tele–I do make it work, though.

Much more sensitive and accurate than t a Snark. You can discern cents if you’re into that (which I am). Good pro tuner.

I bought this hoping it would be like my polytune. it is not. the polytune is probably the best clipon tuner available it is also quite expensive. this one takes more time to dial in and to learn. its almost impossible to get it perfect because of the stupid lights flying from front to back for sharp and flat.

I have 4 guitars so I needed another turner. none comes close to the polytune for accuracy and quick tuning.

This tuner was easy to set up and use. Very compact and easy to travel with. Literally keep it on my acoustic guitar all day. LED light is bright and easy to read. Will also read different tunings for those who use different tunings other than Standard Tuning.

I bought a pair of these for less than a Jackson bill via the Stupid Deal promotion. One was defective and needed the battery contact bent to function. Both have poor accuracy, jump around when not turning your tuner knob, and are useless for the lower strings on bass.

Additionally, while the display has a hinge, it does not swivel. This means on most headstocks, it can only be clipped to the very end, then swung forward for upright operation. You can swing it to the rear instead, but then the display is upside down and harder to read.

The other tuners I’ve owned from this manufacturer are great, but this thing is pretty much a crackerjack prize – small, nifty, but largely useless.

Never owned a clip on tuner prior to this one. I’ve been able to use this tuner frequently, and I like its accuracy so far. After intonating two guitars over the span of an hour, I was surprised at the effectiveness of this clip on tuner.
