For the price, it is a lovely cello for a beginner. The d string and the spare both broke while tuning. I replaced it with a different brand. The bow seems a bit long and awkward for my arms, but I five foot and three inches tall.

The rosin was not good at all. I bought another brand for that as well. I bought the natural colored cello. It came a big more orange than natural, but that’s fine. The bridge was easy to install on my own and was packaged away from the actual cello.

All pieces were packaged in their own little wrappings inside of the bigger box. It was all very well protected. As a beginner, I appreciate the tuner/metronome and book of solos that it comes with. The projection of the instrument is much better than I’d expected for the price.

It seems sturdy and we’ll crafted. It is meant for beginners, so if you are looking for a cello to play in your quarter or what have you, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a cheaper option to learn on, this is an amazing find.

About the instrument: I have bought Chinese-made student instruments before, so I was expecting an object which would reasonably pass for a ‘cello. Imagine my surprise when I instead received a very competent, functional instrument! It’s fun to play, and loud with good response.

Tone is completely acceptable, if undistinctive; however, it costs a lot more to get a superior instrument. A great value for a quality beginning ‘cello! About the bow: Mass-produced Chinese bows are not terribly pretty to look at, but they are functional and get the job done.

This bow is much the usual: the tip is a bit primitive and the weight is a bit heavy. That said, it’s straight, it works, and it feels good in the hand. As is typical with kits, the first equipment upgrade to consider is the bow, not the instrument.

About the accessories: -I like the soft carry bag, it has lots of pockets and feels substantial enough that I’ll be comfortable taking my ‘cello out into the world. -The stand is really wonderful; I like having the ‘cello on display in my studio for students to see and play.

-I’m a rosin snob — Swedish bass rosin for me, thank you — but the included rosin does the job it should. Use a little light-grit sandpaper to rough up the surface and it’ll apply just fine. -I tune by ear andI live the tuning fork lifestyle.

Those who don’t will probably find the electronic tuner useful, especially when first getting used to the instrument. -Spare strings! Always useful! The strings are competent and perfectly adequate for starting out and early progress.

Upgrading strings in time, however, is a good move. -The included lesson book is a nice addition. It uses settings of real music, including classical and folk tunes. It’s a great way to be introduced to the clef and the ‘cello.

However, the book does assume that the player already has some musical experience, including note reading and playing string instruments. For me (as an upper string player and instructor) this is perfect; raw beginners should look for a more basic introduction.

We were very pleased with this purchase. My son plays violin, but he wanted to try the cello. This one was reasonably priced and the reviews looked good, so we gave it a try. And we are very happy with our purchase.

You get what you pay for. I can play it for several minutes, but trying to keep it in tune is difficult even with the fine tuners. I get it in perfect tune and then the peg unwinds within minutes, sometimes less.

There is a significant crack near the scroll where it attaches to the neck. Regarding the bow: horse hair popped when applying Rosin. Since its a student cello I did not expect too much, but I did expect the ability to stay in tuned for more than several moments to be a thing.

Not the highest quality instrument but for the price I wasn’t expecting high quality. We wanted something for our daughter to try out before we committed to a higher quality piece. We have had it for almost a year now and it has worked great for our needs.

It is nice having the hard case because it gives much better protection but the handles started falling off pretty quickly. We reinforced it with some glue and screws and it has worked fine.

It was dream unfulfilled by my wife. She started to learn the cello in grade school and her instructor thought she had exceptional talent. However he parents couldn’t afford to buy one. 50 years she has quietly lamented this.

Wonderful Cello, certainly plays and sounds better than its ‘Student’ status. An ideal Cello for beginners as it feels like a much higher quality instrument than the label beginners would entail. Recommended.

The Stentor Student 2 is probably the best stater student cello available in the UK. There are better but this is the best value in my opinion. Should get you to grade 6 easily.

I choose this silent cello because I live with several roommates and I’m living away from school, away from practice rooms. Practicing at home makes me feel more comfortable and I tend to practice much more hours than I practice at school.

This silent cello made it. I can practice at night in my room, and people standing in the living room can hardly hear it even at small hours. I can plug in the headphones to hear it more clearly and add reverb to it to make it sound like I’m playing in a performance center.

It effectively balanced the left and right pans, which makes me feel that I’m worried about if I’m actually making a loud sound when I’m wearing headphones. At beginning, I took off the headphones constantly to check if I’m really making a loud sound, but actually it was just from the headphones that makes me feel like playing an acoustic cello.

Also, I can practice without headphones. You can hear the pitch as well. So if I feel wearing headphones hurts after a long while, I can take off the headphones and practice without headphones. My teacher is a professional musician, he sees this cello as a great choice for traveling cellist or performing on public places.

It works not only with classical music, but also contemporary music. It’s perfect, with an acceptable price. One thing I really like is the tuning knobs. They’re made like guitar knobs, makes it really easy for tuning compared with acoustic cello.

For me, as a female, I always find it hard to tune the cello. But I don’t worry about this one. The strings are of good quality, never afraid of breaking the strings while tuning. With around 1000-2000 dollars, you may not find a professional acoustic cello, but you can enjoy a wonderful silent cello.

You can play with it from beginner to professional musicians. I have two bad experience about buying a cheap silent cello before this one, around 400 dollars. And I swear I will never do that again. This one really worth every dollar I spent on it.

I’m just an international student majored in piano and trying to learn cello as well. I’m picky about instrument, about their sound, brand, appearance, price, etc. for this one, I have to say I did not find any drawbacks so far.

It’s easy to set up as well. Just remember to buy a bow and rosin because they are not included in the bag with the silent cello. Yamaha is always a great choice. Just don’t waste your money and time on cheap and weak cellos, this one should be your best choice.

Having enjoyed Yamaha’s Silent instruments for 20 yrs + (Trumpet, Guitar, Violin, Viola) I decided to research their options for Cello. As this is a secondary instrument for me I chose the lower price model.

which uses the same bridge and pickup as the top end Silent Cello. Superb design with ‘knee grips’ and sternum support. Geared tuners look good and are very practical. The sounds are excellent with dry and reverb settings.

This is a real instrument and it feels like one when you play it. There are a few quibbles: A couple of fittings are uncomfortable, e. g. , the left knee support and the metal fitting that simulates the back of the cello.

Also, my tuners do have a problem with slipping, although I haven’t tried to tighten them and I probably should. It’s easy to travel with; it goes in the overhead bin. So if you have to travel and still have an instrument to practice on, this is a good solution.

This is a quality product and really enjoyable to use. The strings it comes with are not all that high quality and more serious musicians should consider replacing them.

The full-size 4/4 bow I purchased was originally listed as a Glasser Horsehair Violin Bow. It is beautifully balanced and produces a resonant tone. The horsehair arrived in pristine condition and holds rosin well.

The adjustment nut rotates smoothly and effectively tightens and loosens the bow. The black matte finish appears to be durable, as it has no blemishes or fading after two months of daily practice. I’d totally purchase this again!.

The bow shows good craftsmanship. The screw turns smoothly. The pad is made of rubber what makes a different feeling, however. The finish of the stick is matte. The bow gives a good response on my instrument, however, my personal preference is a stiffer bow than the one I got.

My teen has broken many bows as a beginner. This bow is durable and provides a great sound . WORTH the price for a student.

This violin has a much nicer sound than those I used to play at the orchestra. It’s still a violin for beginners I guess, but it will probably last me until I am intermediate. It does not come with a shoulder rest, and that’s something I’ll have to buy separately.

It’d be great if it came with one included. It’s all varnished except for the inner part of the head, where the strings wind around the tuning pegs. And has a little mark on the belly, near the fingerboard, but it’s not easily noticeable, so it’s ok.

The strings might not be of the best quality -D string split while I was tuning it. But I guess it can’t be helped. It has to happen sometime. I decided to buy a Stagg because I’d heard that they were relatively inexpensive and good quality.

I am a complete novice /beginner, so you will have to remember that in my assessment. A few weeks ago I had a Stentor 2 Student to try out. I had actually bought it as a present for my Brother. It seemed ok after a little practice so I sent it off.

I convinced myself that I should get a violin too, but forgot the golden rule, you get what you pay for. Ive had to change the strings to get anything decent out of it. The supplied rosin is a sticky messy stuff.

The bow is basic and nowhere near as good as the Stentor basic bow. So I’m now looking around for a replacement.

I am not a violin player and my son had the option of lessons at school. Unable to borrow or rent an instrument for his trial lessons, I took a punt on this and can confirm it’s a reasonable instrument for a beginner, the price was very good.

If he sticks with the violin I will trade up for a better instrument in due course, however one month in, I’m happy with this choice, it looks okay, came with everything he needed and stays in tune.

Finally made the leap to fretless on this WAV4. Dealing with Sweetwater was simple, easy and a pleasure. The bass arrived as advertised and I set about practicing. I could immediately play better than I imagined I could, so after a couple of rehearsals I took it public.

I play in several church choirs around town in different settings, with different musicians. Everyone loved the look, the tone, all of it. I believe it fills the bass role in a different manner than a bass guitar does.

It’s just bassier. The only complaint came from a philharmonic flotist who said my intonation was a “little wonky”. But that’s on me. I had to learn that the impedance output of the passive piezo pickups will not drive a standard amplifier input.

So the tone benefits greatly from a buffered signal conditioner. I’m using either Behringer tuner pedal or a Boss Bass Distortion pedal with the blend set to 100% dry. The Behringer preferably because it also works adequately as a tuner and when I want to practice intonation against a standard.

Even though it’s a short 34″ scale, I feel much more like a bassist now than a guitarist, playing bass.

I waffled for a while on which electric cello to get. I was positively surprised with this instrument, and if I had to make my decision over again, I would choose this same cello. This is the brand’s “entry level” electric cello, but for me, it’s a keeper.

I’m not a pro, nor will I be, so your needs may be different. I use this cello for two purposes. I use this for late-night and after-work practice because it’s so darn quiet unplugged, and it sounds MUCH better than a muted acoustic cello.

Additionally, I use this cello for plugged-in play. I plug it into a Vox tube amp, a beautiful pairing. This cello has an impressive dynamic range, and the pickups marvelously catch those dynamics. I let the Vox handle most of the control, but you can tweak the sound directly on the instrument via its own control knobs.

The attack switch is also incredibly helpful: you can switch the pickups to an “arco” mode or a “pizz” mode depending which style you’re playing. It plays beautifully with a bit of overdrive and delay.

Mechanically, the cello takes a little bit of getting used to compared to an acoustic, but I like the changes now that I’m used to them. The pegs are geared instead of tension, and they hold tune quite well.

No fine tuners needed. There is no thumb rest on the underside of the neck, where the neck meets the body on an acoustic cello, so you can’t use that as a built-in check for your hand positioning. However, there are a series of markers on the fingerboard that overcome this challenge.

The bridge isn’t wood, and so it can’t be easily altered if you prefer a slightly different angle between the strings. The included tripod is the only thing I disliked. It’s clumsy and tedious. I’ve since bought the “frame strap system” and it’s versatile and comfy, a major improvement.

I just wish we had a choice of which system we’d prefer when buying the instrument, as I’ll never use the regular tripod again. Overall, A+, and I highly recommend this electric cello!.

Solved a big problem with tight space venues. Sound is not a whole lot better than a bar quality box bass but what it does have is some nice clear tone, the pickup gives consistent sound across all the strings.

So I can play softly and the notes on the G sound as nice as the notes on the D A or E strings , nice and even. I found the high end a bit small and tinny but I’ll play with it and see if we can’t fix that with some technique.

The sound of the bow I tied with it was so so. But I’m terrible with the bow so give it a chance. One of the other guys in my band plays it when I have one of my guitar tunes and he likes the dots so he can stay in tune.

I didn’t know it had “dots” , now that I do I’m guessing that will just throw me off as I play by listening not looking.
