20 Best Center Shaft Putters (2022 Updated)

To try and tell ya how amazing this putter is is hard to do. I will say starting out that I am a very good putter used a spider daddy long legs for years. have gamed the best putters in the world this year tryin to improve some on already good Putting and when I say good I mean it is extremely rare for me to ever 3 putt.

I started the year gaming an evnroll liked it alot set up just little more closed than I’d like. went from it to a TaylorMade spider x really liked it and was prob the best one I had tried this year.

Then Callaway released a jon rahm edition odyssey ten 2 ball with the og white hot insert which is the putter I wanted at beginning year just didn’t like the white hot star insert in them and when they released one with the og white hot I had to give it a go and liked it long putts with it were really good not as good from inside 10ft tho which eventually cost it the spot in my bag.

From the 2 ball ten switched to a Scotty Cameron futura 5 and been gamin it for past 2 months with awesome success and had absolutely no intentions of changing out of it whatsoever but while I was getting fit for a driver and was waiting on them to put the finishing touches on it seen these cobra putters there and with no intentions of switching putters at all hit the 3d blade cause it was the only one they had there and I have never ever used a blade in my 20 years of golf and was making almost every putt with a blade and that told me there had to be something to all this tech because I swear to God I felt like I was cheating.

So when I got home I knew I had to order me a 3d mallet and was goin to go with the supernova just cause I wasn’t for certain how big the agera was as I had never seen the supernova or agera in person before but in the end decided to roll the dice and go for the agera and so so glad I did it is just a little bigger than the tm spider x but just little smaller than the old daddy long legs spider.

First day out with it made 3 birdies 2 of which were on the least and 2nd least birdied hole at our nine hole course. I promise u even if ur not looking for a new putter u would be doin urself a diservice if u didn’t least find a way try one but honestly I’d just pick the 3d shape u like the best and buy one cause there is no other putters on the market td that are this good they really are so good that it feels like I’m cheating.

And I hope noone I play against in tournaments has one.

I have used a blade exclusively for almost 30 years. This replaced an SC Newport that I’ve used since ’04. I decided to try this mallet exclusively after seeing a review from TXG on the new Cobra line with a sik face.

I just didn’t feel stable behind my blade and honestly I’ve just never had a great relationship with it. I have quite a few hours now on the practice greens and about 5 rounds into it. From 3-6 feet I feel incredibly stable and I still can’t believe just how consistent the ball comes off the face.

The biggest area where I notice the most change is in long range putts (20 feet plus). The ball rolls so well and true after making a strike when compared to my previous blade and I notice so little hopping of the ball on the way to the hole.

I understand that some greens bounce more than others, but I do notice a huge difference in the first 5 feet or so of the roll where the ball just rolls so true with no hop being induced by me or the putter.

I’m still learning the speed of using a mallet so I can’t speak about it when compared to other putters. For me I feel like I have a ton of confidence in this putter and that it will roll incredibly true when I strike it.

So far so good and I’d recommend this style of putter to anybody that is thinking about giving it a try. I have no regrets in making the jump over to a mallet and so far this one has made me feel like it was the right decision.

The new cobra putter uses the SIK face that has variable loft and it’s design provides the MOI of a mallet. Excellent roll off the face and a very confident feel. The MOI is clearly that of a mallet and makes this putter more forgiving than a normal blade design.

Only drawback is the look and lack of a simple alignment feature.

Three positives came out of this fitting and purchase I thought my swing was reasonably straight but I knew I had a lot of play in my wrists and I wasn’t terribly diligent at lining the ball up i. e.

that marker line on the ball with where I was going. The fitting brought that home to me because the computer showed that after my ball strike I started moving the club to the left about an inch or so every time.

Lining it up with the whole helped but The fitting was also a lesson and has made me think more about creating that pendulum swing. I love the midsize thicker grip I really believe it’s taken a lot of the playout of my wrists it’s quiet them down.

I also prefer this new putter for the optical of the white balls or white circles and the line driven down the middle of it as well it really helps me lineup my club face and that line with the direction that I’m going in the line on the golf ball.

The weather‘s not great I’ve only played twice since but I’m getting more near Mrs. and I’ve sunk a couple of extra putts each round that I Know I would not have before my purchase. As I have been warned the face on this club requires maybe five or 10% hardest strike to go to the same distance but after practicing with it a couple times and then playing that first round you pick it up pretty quickly.

And oddly enough I think the additional speed in my swing is keeping my pendulum or alignment straighter. Two Big thumbs up.

I have had the 2-BALL TEN TOUR PUTTER for about a month now and it is absolutely a score changer for me. When I first started using the putter the transition from my 20+ year old Odyssey Rossie II was very straightforward.

I noticed almost immediately that the visual alignment assistance was going to help me a lot. The mallet style seemed to also help keep my swing smooth and predictable. So yesterday my playing partners witnessed the amazing putting improvement as I had six 1 putts and three 2 putts on the back 9 with 3 birds and a total of 33 for the back 9 (my best 9 ever).

These putts were all anywhere from 8 to 20 feet. One advantage I have is this was on my home course so I have a good feel for the greens. I found myself taking just a little more time to focus on the alignment and stroke distance and the magic started to happen.

I am not sure I will ever repeat that again but my scores have improved by at least 4 strokes since I started using the 2-BALL TEN. Good luck.

Recently picked up the Triple Track Double Wide. Really happy with it. A few things to highlight: – Love the tech. I personally love the feel and performance of the White Hot microhinge face insert. Love how it rolls off the face and the feel is great.

This is the 2nd Stroke Lab putter I’ve owned and without a doubt, I think the Stroke Lab shaft is more forgiving and allows for a more consistent stroke. – Mallet performance in a blade package- While not quite as elegant as a classic blade, if you’re someone that prefers a more minimalist look at address and not into the spaceship like designs on some mallets, but wants the forgiveness/ higher MOI of a mallet, this putter is a great hybrid of look and performance.

– Face balanced vs Toe Hang- I’ve been committed to face balanced putters for the last 12-15 years. Have played mallet and blade designs. Thought this putter was pure face balanced but i noticed its got a very little bit of toe hang.

I’ve been struggling a little bit with accidentally rotating the face lately ending up in pushed and pulled putts and I think the slight bit of additional weight in the toe of this putter has helped my feel for the face in the stroke.

Really liking it. – Look/ style- The one concern I had with this putter was whether I’d like the Triple Track. I don’t play the Chrome Soft ball so I don’ have the matching Triple Track lines on my ball.

And I was afraid that the look might look outdated if Callaway switched away from the Triple Track. While that could happen, in person, the Triple Track looks a little less prominent than it does in the photos and I’m pretty sure that I’ll still be using this putter long after Callaway changes the Chrome Soft design.

Overall, high marks for this putter and would strongly recommend!.

This putter has lots of technology. I can control it better than any putter I have had. My only concern is its durability, because there are already a couple of small dents in the outer toe and heel, neither of which affect its performance.

(It just makes me wonder. ) But I like it enough that I will just buy another one.

Was always intrigued with the Odyssey 2-ball and finally pulled the trigger on getting one. Read some good reviews on it elsewhere and it was on sale. It’s a little heavier than I normally play but that’s OK for early spring when the greens are rough.

Played one round with it and started off poorly. However, I started to get a feel for the club and began to make decent putts with. I’m used to a Spyder and almost got a new one of those instead, but I stuck with the 2-Ball.

I like the Triple Track and would like to think that it’s helping me improve my generally average putting game. I’m hoping it’ll help me when the greens are smooth and fast again. For the short time that I have had this club I am going to give it 5-stars.

Putting is the most inconsistent part of my game, so I wanted to try an Arm Lock putter to see if it could help. The putter itself is fantastic, and it has a great feel like Odyssey is known for. The grip was a little too thin for my liking, so I put a JumboMax JMX Jumboflat grip on it which made it fit against my forearm easier.

However, after a few trips to the practice green, and playing a few rounds, I realized the putter wasn’t for me. I had issues lining up putts with this particular putter, but that was at the fault of the user and not the club itself.

I’m sure if I practiced more with it, it might become second nature, but I prefer a putter that has more feel and flow to it. If you’re a golfer who can’t quiet their wrists with putts, I’d recommend giving this Odyssey a try.

Just purchased this putter changing from an Evnroll ER2CS. It was the last putter I picked up at the store after testing several. I was amazed at the feel off the face and how true it rolled. The weighting is very even and I had no problem performing a repeatable stroke.

A lot of people say you don’t have to get the stroke lab shaft but after trying the regular steel, I felt more comfortable with the stroke lab shaft on shorter putts. Either way, both great products.

If you like a very firm face, this may not be the putter for you but I loved the feel and sound of the insert. Definitely give this putter a roll if you’re looking for something new.

Was looking for a new putter not too long ago. I spent three hours in the store playing around with different putters but this one stood out to me the most. Balance is great, the face is soft, the new milling looks sleek, and this thing feels like the original.

Dont get me wrong, the original whitehot 2 ball that you can find second hand are still great but only if you can find one in good condition. Typically I see them with the balls cracked or the face yellowed a bit so I decided to spend the extra money on the entirely new one.

These new grips that come on these are thinner but they feel good in hand and the shaft is well balanced. The headcover is an old-school style that feels like an improved strokelab cover. First putt in the store, drained from about 20 feet out, followed up with some drills, long putts, and short putts, this thing makes it easy.

Distance control through feel is this putters specialty.

Recently went to get a fitted for a putter bc I wasn’t happy with my putting. I was thinking maybe my putter needed an adjustment with lie or maybe the shaft length was too long or short, I had my eye on the Scotty’s bc of their notoriety and exclusivity and wanted to be one of the select few who owed one.

my fitter had me try them out but found myself pulling my putts, he then proceeded to hand me the White Hot OG #1WS putter and Boy let me tell you it was instant magic, I couldn’t stop sinking my putts.

He explained to me I needed more toe hang since my putting stroke was slow and deliberate, he also informed me that center balance putters were not for everybody bc everyone has different tempo and stroke.

I am convinced that the so called Scotty “tour prototypes” are NOT the same they sell on retail. I believe they customize it to the tour players preference & add more toe hang. I’m happy I went for the fitting bc it really made a world of a difference and the White Hot OG #1W was the putter I needed.

I encourage everyone to go for a putter fitting, trust me it may not be a lesson you need but just a slight mechanical change.

This review is for the new 2022 Phantom X 5. Let me start with the good! The Putter has an extremely high level of build quality, which is to be expected at this price point, but it is nice to see the precise lines and milling.

Sound and feel off the face is as good as any putter, even against those that use inserts and it’s balance is exceptional. Now on to the not so good. I ordered this putter with some custom adjustments (length, lie) from 2ndSwing so because of the custom order this putter came direct from Titleist.

Honestly this putter was not packed very well at all. It was in a sealed plastic bag along with only a wad of paper at one end. Thankfully it arrived in good condition but at this price I expected a little more care in the packaging.

Next, after I ordered the putter I got some heavier custom sole weights for the club so I can fine tune the feel if needed. The stock weights are 20 grams and if you want to remove them you should take them to a golf shop because Scotty glues those things in there and you don’t want to damage the putter.

I just use PB Blaster spray and after a few treatments it breaks up the glue and they are relatively easy to remove after that. I was disappointed to see that the stock 20 gram weights were actually 18.

45 and 18. 43 grams each. Not a big deal but still, at this price point I expect better. The aftermarket 30 gram weights I got from Amazon were 30. 44 and 30. 46 grams each. So you’re telling me some random company has tighter tolerances than Scotty Cameron…😬.

Lastly, the Headcover is a bit disappointing. First off it’s too big. Maybe it’s because they made one size to fit all the head shapes in this line and the 5 is the smallest of them all? Ok, fine, but it also uses a Velcro closure and it’s been my experience that putting that kind of Headcover on and off multiple times will eventually tear ☹️.

Again, at this price point I expect more like a magnetic system. I know these are all little things and they don’t affect the performance of the club but I just hate to see a brand like this start to fall off little by little here and there because it can start to creep into other areas.

I will review the Phantom X7 as I returned the 7. 5 because of the stance it required. I like a stance over the top of the ball and the 7. 5 demanded a stance farther from the ball than I was comfortable with.

First off, the grip. From what I gather and observe, more and more pros are opting to go with the oversized putter grips because of the advantages gained. At the price point of this putter I assume it is targeting low handicappers, pros, and people who want pro gear.

I would like to have seen a large, oversized grip for this putter. The pistolero grip, from what Scotty Cameron himself has said, was more of an aesthetic decision versus a more functional oversized grip.

Also, at this price point, I would expect to receive a few options of sole weights to come along with it to give customers more customization options out of the box. The ball reaction is nice off of the face.

Doesn’t jump off the face like my previous White Hot Sabertooth, which I think reduces skip and makes puts slightly more accurate. That being said, the alignment lines on the back of the mallet could have been made a more contrasting color to help visually.

The white on silver is tough to track peripherally during the back swing. All-in-all it’s a good putter, but I wouldn’t call it amazing. It’s not quite what I expected for spending 400+ dollars on a Scotty Cameron.
