20 Best Ceramic Sharpening Rod (2022 Updated)

Got this because my metal one was getting long in the tooth. This ceramic steel is fantastic and easily exceeds my expectations. A few properly done strokes and the knives become very sharp. I rinse the steel after each use to rinse off the filing from the knife.

Very pleased with my purchase. Highly recommended.

Just recent received my Zwilling Bob Kramer ceramic sharpening rod and have used it every day on various fine knives to bring them back to razor sharpness after use and a quick swipe across a leather strop.

It’s a great complement to my original 40 year old Zwilling rod!.

Knife edges need to be kept in alignment after use in order to keep them performing their best. That’s where a sharpening rod comes into play. Not only will this rod keep your blade straight but it will also sharpen it as the ceramic is harder than the steel of your knife.

You will marvel at how great your knife performs after using this rod.

These rods are excellent for touching up an edge. Not for very dull edges that need reprofiled, but great for bringing back an edge after some regular use, or polishing an edge after first sharpening with rougher grit.

Fits in my kitchen block and handles all my kitchen and pocket EDC knives. TIP: after several uses it gets covered with fine metal dust- won’t wipe off or come off with soap. Use COMET or a toilet or bath cleaner, and it wipes right off to restore the rod.

Also- don’t drop these- it’s ceramic- it will break. Works on all edge geometries, but not the best for convex edges. If you know the differences between final edge grind geometries, chances are you already know all of this anyhoo.

Have been using ceramic sharpeners for over 20 years and prefer them to a steel. You can bring a knife edge up good enough to shave with in no time and this one seems to do the trick. Good value for money.

when I received, they seem very smooth. I tried on an old fish filet knife, super sharp. you will not be disappointed with results, three strokes was all it took. outstanding

It sharpens knives smoothly and appears to be good quality. It is also long enough for all my knives. I did feel that $40 was a lot to pay for a sharpening rod but I couldn’t find any cheaper ones except those with no handle.

Fantastic buy. I use item as a finishing sharpener. I first use carbon steel sharpener and then use this to finish knives to a razor sharp edge. As I sharpen the knife, I turn the sharpener each time.

You will notice it getting “dirty”. This is fine metal shavings from your knife. When you finish sharpening your knife, I suggest that you clean your sharpener. I use gun oil on a small cloth and wipe all the metal shavings.

Nothing like a good Ceramic Rod to keep your fine kitchen knives sharp! A dull knife is a dangerous knife. A couple passes after using your knives, and it’s ready for the next time you want a sharp edge.

Easily cleans up with a little scouring powder and a kitchen scrubby.

The ceramic sharpening steel is excellent quality. It was delivered promptly and arrived in pristine condition. A few You Tube videos later and a couple of practices on a few old knives I used it on my Global knife set.

For a cook, if your food is your soul, your knives are close to your heart! Knife care is key, taking great care with your global knives can ensure their long service in your kitchen. The sharper is light and extremely effective.

Have been using for set of global knives for past couple months and have yet to actually need to formally sharpen them as this honing rod has done such a great job! Extremely impressed.

Maybe it needs more usage before making this review but while the size and construction are perfect the ceramic is a bit sandy or chunky and not as smooth as I had hoped. It works, but I prefer a smoother draw down.

I cannot guess the grit size accurately due to the occasional chunky feel but if I did guess it would be around 400-600. I have a bunch of knives that need some good honing so I’ll know better in a another month or 2.

It may very well be a 4-5 star!.

This is the best way to sharpen both European and Japanese knives. A honing steel will straighten the knife edge, but not remove material to sharpen. A sharpening stone with a low grit under 2000 can be too abrasive, and shorten the life of a blade.

This cermaic sharpening steel is just right, around a 4000 grit that will remove material, but a very minimal amount, and give a good sharp edge. I use this about once a month, or every other week.

I’m not good with sharpening knife. No matter what I used, I can never get my knives sharpen. This Kyocera ceramic sharpening steel made the task easy and my knives never been so sharp until now. Highly recommended for those inexperienced knife wielding like me.

I have both kits and prefer the Smith’s over the Lansky. but both kits with 2 or 3 stones do not have a very fine finishing stone to put that ultra-sharp edge on a knife. This stone will give you the final REALLY sharp edge to a carry knife.

Work slowly and lightly to make the edge really become sharp and to remove any tiny burrs. Use a little smeared 3-in-one oil on the stone to float away the particles and then wipe it clean after you stop.

This is cheap to buy, will last forever and will take you to beyond ‘plenty sharp’ to ‘scary sharp’.

Lansky always has excellent quality. This particular fine stone (600 Grit) does have a tendency to wear quite a bit. However; it does produce a fine edge on the knife blades I have sharpened. Very good quality.

But at a premium price!.

Purchased an older model Lansky sharpener that only had the course, medium and fine stones. Did not come with ceramic S1000 stone. Now I can return my unprofessionally sharpened kitchen knives to a nice 20 degree razor sharp edge and have the cuts on may hand to prove it.

As a HEMA swordsman and keen bushcrafter a good sharping system is essential and I have a few sharping systems at home – the Fallkniven DC4 Diamond Ceramic Sharpening Stone has to be the best infield portable system I have ever used.

Pocket friendly and more than effecent to keep my edges keen. I have used it in axes, swords, knives and just about ever steel type without complaint. I wouldn’t recommend it for re-profiling but for touch ups and honing it’s a ten out of ten from me.

Do yourself a favour and buy one you won’t regret it. Rob.

Easy to install into handle. once you have got the old one out! Cheaper than the Global Knives diamond sharpener but just as good for maintaining a keen edge. Remember, though, to sharpen/hone every time.

It is a replacement for honing my Global knives. The old one, which was smooth was difficult to remove and at first so was the replacement. But we removed it, put a tiny bit of olive oil on it and it went right into the handle with no problem whatsoever.

My knives will love this!.

While researching knife sharpening systems I came across the Lansky Turn Box system. The Lansky system is easy to use and achieves excellent results! My only advice is to make sure it is used correctly and as directed.

There are many YouTube clips explaining how to use the system to get best results. Having said that, as I mentioned previously, the Lansky Turn Box system is very easy to use.

Easy to use if you hold blade vertically, edge will be very sharp. I use ceramic rods 90% of the time. Very little blade material is lost vs a stone. You can use a small square for vertical reference.

A little pricey but works well and separate rods can sharpen gut hooks. Easy to use if age has reduced hand/finger manipulation.

I already have 3 other sharpeners and by far my Lansky is better in terms of design and effectiveness. Also it is very light and compact and easy to handle. I highly recommend this product. a must for every household.

I love this sharpener. I use it at least twice a week. I don’t like the angle of the grinding slots but once you get accustomed it is fine. I like the fact that I can remove the serrated part of knives that I use since I don’t like blades with them but most of the knives that I see and want to buy have them.

That just me though. This sharpener makes quick work of reshaping a horribly dull blade and it has the fine edged finishing slot to use afterward. This Item is extremely useful and practical. I don’t have to tire my arms out manually sharpening from start to finish.

I recommend getting this if you want to save time and effort. It was worth every penny.

Lost my last one, had to promptly get another. Great little compact retractable 💎 diamond dust steel for taking the sharp edge of ya hunting knives to the next level. It’s that small i keep mine in my knife pouch with me knife.

Would i recommend to a friend? Hell yer already have several times!.

Would give this 0 stars if I could. Purchased this and instantly returned it after one use. It ruined the blade on my knife. Not to mention when I put the blade to the stone wheel, it stopped spinning because the motor wasn’t strong enough.

If you want an uneven/ruined knife blade then buy this.

The best sharpener out there, even use it on hobby xacto blades. I do recommend sanding down the edges on the forguard square so it won’t roll off counter.

Good quality ceramic and a comfortable handle. Comes in a plastic tube to prevent cracking in half.

This sharpens in a hurry. Easy to use.

The Lansky turn box sharpening system is one of the best value manual sharpening systems around. It sells for a similar price to the Smiths 3 in 1 CD4 sharpening system, which I have and use as well.

In some ways, the Lansky turn box is better. instead of 2 four inch ceramic rods, you get 4 five inch rods in 2 different grits. Once you get some build up on the rod, you can turn the rods to keep sharpening before cleaning, something you can’t do with the Smith’s 3 in 1.

The Lansky turn box is not as versatile as it doesn’t have the carbide pull through, the diamond stone or the shaped rods for serrations, but if you just want to sharpen non-serrated pocket knives and/ or kitchen knives, the turn box is hard to pass up.

The 3 in 1 has rubber feet that hold to a surface better, but a rubbery mat or some cheap little stick-on rubber feet will easily take care of the problem. Lastly, the box is made of wood and the holes for the rods will expand and contract slightly due to humidity and may be a very tight fit at times.

All said, I find it is a very good set and am using it more than the Smiths 3 in 1, which I also believe is an excellent value option if you want a little more versatility, for day-to-day touch-ups of knives.

Pros: 1. Inexpensive 2. Easy to use 3. Does 1 thing very well 4. 2 different sharpening rod sets of different abrasive ratings Cons: 1. Not as versatile as similarly priced competition 2. Holes expand and contract based on humidity.

After trying countless knife sharpeners over the years, I’ve found that the ceramic rod sharpeners are the absolute best sharpeners for the average home consumer. They do a much better job, with less material removed, than the popular guide/pull-through sharpeners, and they don’t require the practice and dexterity of stone sharpeners.

Is this as nice as a Spyderco Tri-Angle? No. Is it 1/4 the price and sharpen your knifes just as well? Yep! And, really, isn’t that all you need?.

Since I have a number of Global knives, I thought it best to buy a sharpening rod from the same company – instead of buying a less expensive one – of which there are many. So I’m not yet sure it was worth the price – it seems to sharpen knives easily and quickly.

One thing I noticed that I wasn’t expecting. since this is ceramic and not steel, every time you use it, the ceramic rod, which starts out white, scratches and discolors to grey / black. Not attractive.

I’m not sure what happens when ALL of the white is gone?.

This is a quality product. I would have appreciated more detailed instructions on how to use it to the best advantage. Had to rely on the internet for instructions.

For years I’d used traditional sharpening steel (i. e. non-ceramic) with decent results, but it wasn’t until I tried the Global ceramic sharpener that I knew what I was missing. This one is long enough to get a good draw with any blade (including my 10″” chef knife) and the honing ability was nothing short of amazing.

I have a wide variety of knives, Asian/Western, VG10, SG2, etc, and this steel works wonderfully on all of them. You won’t be disappointed.

This file makes the blade really shine. I added this in my diamond file set, so the requirement of lubrication is not good. Makes the process a bit messy.

You can get sharp without it, as sharp as needed for everyday kitchen knives. But this does then make knives go silly sharp. Defo worth it

I’ve been using lansky sharpening kits for years. They are te best, I split my finest stone tightening it, that is why I replaced it. The kit will last a long time, if you take reasonable care of it, I’d recommend it to anyone.

My husband did a great job sharpening my large knives, so now I’ll have him do the smaller ones. It’s a great little sharpener. I didn’t receive a glove that was supposed to be included, but it was still a really good buy.

Does a fairly good job of sharpening knives. Only item of note is that the different positions are labeled in chinese only.

My dull knifes nd scissors re sharp gain. Use of this sharpener really works well.

Great for your pack or just at home. With both a set of diamond and a set of fine rods it makes short work of your sharpening needs. It has both a 20 degree and 25 degree angle guide so your set for field and hunting knives.

Great for Cold Steel knives is you wish to keep their original grind as most of their knives come from the factory at a 25 degree angle.

This thing is cool. It’s actually pretty stout. It’s perfect for maintenance on a work knife. Be careful when tightening the rod. If you apply too much force it damages the threading. Just screw it on easy and it’s no problem.

I for sure recommend this.

Didn’t like this newer design compared to the older brass colored version. 1. Carbide pull-thru sharpeners are just bad for your knife, period. If your into ruining your knife, then by all means, use them! 2.

The older version was able to be taken apart for cleaning purposes. This new model does not allow for the diamond rod to be removed from the handle. I foresee this posing a problem with extended use.

3. The whole black “Tacti-cool” thing is just ridiculous! This product was designed to be a “field” sharpener. It’s smarter to have the item brightly colored so you can find it if you were to drop it in the woods.

The older brass colored model would be a lot easier to spot on the ground than this black version. Would not recommend this product. Just buy the EZE-LAP diamond rod sharpener instead.

Haven’t had this very long, but have managed to sharpen a few things with it, including an entrenching tool. The diamond rod portion seems to work great. I don’t have any issues with the 600 grit being lesser or more as I read here somewhere.

Mine is pretty well perfectly executed. It is pretty large and hefty. It could be used as a kubatan, but it is not what I would call a pocket sized thing. I have owned other Lansky sharpening tools and I wouldn’t own anything else.
