20 Best Chainsaw Mill Attachment (2022 Updated)

I put it together in about 15 minutes. I would have been quicker, but it took me a couple of minutes to realize the instructions provided were not for this model. Regardless, it was quick and simple.

Connected it to a Stihl MS 291 Farm Boss with a 20″ bar and new rip chain. Slabbed up some beautiful 2″ thick x 18″ wide x 12′ long cherry for a project. It was easy to handle and operate! 18″ wide is the absolute maximum this model can cut.

This is perfect for the hobbyist that wants to mill their own lumber. It’s very well built and I love the fact that you only need your chainsaw tool to make any adjustments. So you’re not carrying around additional tools.

I tried a regular chain on my saw at first. It works OK. A ripping chain is almost $70 for my saw! So I took my old chain and filed it down to 10 degrees. Works so much better. And a lot faster. Leaves a lot of saw marks so get ready to sand.

But for the price and the performance, it’s perfect for me.

I love this tool! Great way to mill your lumber & clean up downed trees around the property & make something new instead of wasting good wood by just chopping it up & burning or leaving it lay to rot.

This is great for carpenters who have woods on their property & they would like to make their lumber or if they know someone who would like to have trees removed. It is very useful!.

I’ve only used this once, but it seems to work well. It was rigid enough to keep the saw stable, but light enough to handle easily. The assembly directions were in English, but might as well have been in Chinese.

My father and I were trying to guess where all the washers and bolts were supposed to go. Pretty sure we got it figured out eventually. With a good stable straight edge for the initial cut I think this will saw boards well- I’ve only cut one board as a test so far- but hoping to creating my own posts from dead trees.

Timber Tuff TMS-24 is a well built portable saw mill. It goes together nicely and is very sturdy. All the materials used in the product are very heavy duty down tot he washers used that are thick and made of stainless steel.

Aluminum struts are strong and the unit is solid once it’s put together and tightened down on the chainsaw blade. With the chainsaw it is a heavy piece so be prepared.

Very well designed and sturdy. If there’s any degree of wobble after you’ve assembled it, you’ve probably put the washers in the wrong place. Once I got it all correct, the device was rock solid. One other consideration is your chainsaw and the type of wood you’re milling.

If you’re milling hardwood, a more powerful chainsaw is desirable. My 30cc chainsaw struggled with a 9″ oak trunk even using a new chain, but the resulting boards were of consistent thickness and quite good after I planed them a bit.

Assembly was pretty easy. Instructions at one point say to use a flat washer to attach the handle but it is too big for the space in the handle. Used a lock washer instead. Seems pretty tight, well-fitting parts.

Some extra holes on the brackets that I do not know what to do with. perhaps for a bigger model or accessory? Would be nice to have a comment on that.

This is great if you dont need a lot quickly. It cuts even thickness easily and quickly. Most time spent on other aspects. Im glad I took the plunge.

Works great. Nice to be able to make my own planks. Recently had a black walnut fall over, and wouldve cost hundreds to get this planked at the sawmill. I was able to do this project, and look forward to doing many more with my own easy to store and easy to use equipment.

I installed the 1/4 20 x 1-3/4″ bolts to lock down handle boss was installed with lock washers between boss and end bracket, not between screw cap and boss. Of course, they loosened. That was my mistake.

The use of Bolts/Nuts that have the same tool as chainsaw bar nuts is great. Could the bosses be connected with the same? This way, one tool is needed. Hex wrenches are easily lost in a pile of sawdust, whereas everyone will have an extra chainsaw wrench lying around, and these are easier to find if dropped.

The only real gripe with the assembly is the lack of access to the chain tension screw on a 395XP saw. The saw must be removed from the bracket to adjust chain tension, requiring width to be set to 6″ or so first.

Two operations just to adjust the tension. A right-angle flat head driver was not brought to the worksite, so this was not an option. This would have avoided the disassembly/assembly process and will be used next time if chain loosens during slabbing.

I was skeptical about how it would work, but it met and beat all my expectations. It was easy to put together and is very good quality. I was cutting a 24 inch red oak log, and it worked great.

Very easy to put together and set up. Very intuitive to use. Materials seem to be quality. Its a lot of work to mill up bigger hardwood but its a lot of fun if your into mechanical and working with your hands.

This thing works great. I was skeptical at first but it works better than expected. The rails Granberg makes for the top or first cut work pretty good too, but there are other ways to skin that cat, using a short nail & string line, the set several nails to the string all down the log & lay a board on top of the nails and use the board as the rail for the first cut.

I put it together the day I received it. Easy to put together. I think it is well made. A little expensive for what it is, but I would buy it again. I can’t spend 5k to 7k on a bandsaw mill right now, so this seems like a good option.

I used the only saw I have right now, a Sthil ms390 with a 30″ bar & Grandburg milling chain, for such a little saw I am surprised on how well it worked! Yesterday I cut three white oak slabs with the mill and saw.

I also ordered the oiler, and the winch. I have a bad shoulder, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to do it or not, but with the winch crank, no problem! The more slabs I cut the wider they got & the harder it was on the saw.

I could tell it was working the saw a little. I wouldn’t recommend using a small saw for oak. I will be purchasing a Husqvarna 395XP soon. I am sure the 395XP will be all the saw I need for the 36″ mill.

I have used the mill several times, sawing both walnut and red oak. The logs were roughly seven feet long and 16-20 inches in diameter. The mill was simple to use and I cut the logs 2 inches thick and to do three logs, it took me a little over an hour.

Being the first time I used such a mill, I thought that was pretty good. I used the special chains which I purchased at a local chain saw shop and they worked very well. Thus far, I am very pleased with the mill.

I just wish I had bought it years ago.

This device is sturdy and works very well once I corrected the manufacturing defect. Two of the holes for receiving the set screws that hold it to the chainsaw bar were not threaded. Fortunately I had the proper size metric tap and was able to thread them myself.

It has been my experience that one has to expect this from cheap Chinese knockoff products, but with a little ingenuity and effort they can still be a bargain. All of the parts were included and of course the instructions were poor except for the pictures.

The box it came in was trashed and taped back together. The baggie of small parts inside was torn with parts rattling around loose in the box. The tool itself appears new, but was maybe a customer return? I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, so I don’t know how it works, but the condition of the box sure did not make a good first impression.

If you’re looking for a way to rip some rough boards. It’s a good way to go. I just bought it because I honestly just wanted to try it. The item was back-ordered and came with no hardware, so I had to decide to waste time calling or just figure it out.

I went to the local hardware store looking for some M8x25 screws as listed on the parts list. Found them took them home and they dont fit. Which then I learned was true for another customer based on his review.

The bolts I then tried got cross-threaded, so now I was faced with drilling them out and re-threading. I ended up just drilling the new bar that I got just to rip which didnt make me happy. After all that frustration, I will say it did slightly better than anticipated.

Looking to use it to cut a beefy mantel that we wanted to be rustic and rough looking.

The saw mill is solidly constructed and works as expected in cutting planks of wood. However there are some reservations: 1 – The maximum cutting width with a Stihl chainsaw with 16″ bar is only 10. 5″ 2 – With a 16″ bar, the perspex cover had to be cut down (a 1″ V grove cut into the end) otherwise the bar could not be clamped 3 – With the 16″ bar, the handle cannot be fitted unless the perspex cover is cut down by a further 2″ 4 – The markings on one of the vertical depth adjustment bars are on the wrong side so cannot be used.

The depth has to be measured instead, which is less convenient. The bar was obviously welded the wrong way around. 5 – The U bolts are too long and have to be cut down otherwise they obstruct the chainsaw.

Works well but is hard to adjust board thickness. I didn’t have a ripping chain to begin with but, so it took a long time to go through one slab, but once I got the right chain(ripping) it went so much better.

I`d got the parcel in the post yesterday and assembled the components. I thought that I had tightened all bolts and nuts enough but I realized today that I had not. There is tremendous vibration once the mill is in action and one side of the saw bar moved within the bracket towards the chain while cutting but I saw it in time and there was no damage done.

Also the little wing bolts on the push bar came loose and a nut for the grip/handle fell off. I rearranged and tightened everything and could continue sawing with no more hiccups. This mill is almost a true copy of a Granberg at a fraction of the price.

The holes in the aluminium brackets were not large enough to receive the bolts, I had to widen them with an 8mm bit, also the setting of the cutting height is tricky when you want to tighten up. I already ordered 4 Hex Rod Coupling Long Nuts 30mm for easier access.

If you’re not prepared to put in a bit of extra time, this may not suit you but I did and I am quite happy with what I have now. If you set things up carefully the mill will also be quite accurate. Best thing really is that I don`t have to haul the logs to a mill.

Cut a tree and mill boards or planks there and then. It`s great.

Had to put it together from parts list and picture on box. Having a mechanical engineering degree made it quite easy for me. Make sure you have all 12 of the bolts in the slotted braces. Five on each long side and 2 in short cross one.

Once put together it is a sturdy mill.

The actual product is not what’s shown in the image. The tool is shorter, so there is no bar support on the far side. Be this as it may, the tool works very well. I have used it with the regular chain as well as a ripping chain and bar.

Both work well the difference being the finish of the cut. It’s easy to assemble, and stays tight during use. It’s nice that the weight isn’t much because after cutting a few boards everything gets kind of heavy.

The product number is in fact the TMS-20 from Timber Tuff, I already own one. However, the JET PICTURE is different than the one you actually get. The safety roller guard on the left of the photo and the back support rails above the shelf are NOT included.

What you do get, is the adjustment shelf with the black push handle and the height adjustment with Chainsaw clamp on the right of photo and plexiglass safety window. I am returning this product.

Overall I am very pleased with this chainsaw Mill purchase excellent value for the money. Used it for the first time yesterday. Throw away the instruction book and all the tools that come with it. The ladder guide like device that comes with it is incredibly straight when you put it together properly very surprised.

I noticed yesterday I have a 20 inch saw bar but only 13 and a half inch are usable ordered a bigger bar and ripping chain. You will need to make a relief Cuts in the actual aluminum pieces that allow you to raise and lower the guide so a socket can access the nuts to adjust.

All in all not a big deal not a big deal but noteworthy.

Exactly what Ive been wanting to buy for years. but prices were always out of my budget. was just going to buy the mill without the rail system & make one myself. But, got the exact mill in the stores with the rail system cheaper than the mill alone in the bigbox store.

Works great! same top quality & all parts fit together no problem with spare nuts & bolts just incase. I used to run one of these building cabins in the Yukon. Now Ill be cutting boards for viking furniture.

I was looking for an affordable heat press as I had just gotten into making shirts and I didn’t want to use a iron most of the ones I saw were into the 300$ range cheapest. I was recommended this one and I’ve made plenty of shirts.

It’s great ! Affordable and does a great job. I would recommend buying extra teflon sheets I’ve heat pressed hats, headbands, baby clothes , stuffed animals, etc. I’ve had this heat press for 5 months bows and works like the first time I used it.

Pro: Well made in the USA by the inventor’s son. Comes with an awesome little manual written by the inventor. Con: Do not use the compression screws. Go ahead an drill the bar to attach (you will have both options).

Mine is a Stihl laminated bar and I had the compression screws come loose twice, bringing the chain to a sickening stop as it made contact with the clamp. Ruined the chain, of course. Be prepared to ruin the pilot-hole drill-bit–Stihl chainsaw bars are very hard.

Do the final drill with a concrete carbide drill bit–it really works!.

It is a good value because it will save me from having to pay full price for lumber down at the building supply store. However, after I bought the unit, I found a similar product for about half the price.

No way to compare quality so don’t have a fair comparison.

I needed a product I could carry into the north woods of Ontario easily that would also be effective at making lumber. This product fits the bill perfectly. It requires the user to make some jigs to get the full potential, but the amount of things this tool can accomplish is truly amazing.

I ended up building a knock-down mill frame out of dimensional lumber that worked like a charm. I think I spent $80 on material, and I got a repeatable-depth sawmill capable of anything I need!.

Assembly was not hard, I recommend just looking at the photo of the mill once you have it all unpackaged! I think thats a far easier way to get it all put together correctly the instructions would work with some imagination.

but I prefer the picture personally seems to be of good quality worst thing I could see happening is maybe having to replace the supplied hardware for some upgraded nuts and bolts from your local hardware store that may cost you a about 5 dollars us but after I get some hours on it Ill see how that all holds up! But overall Im very happy with my purchase as it also includes the guide rail system for making your first entry cut into the tree and that the important part because of you get the first cut wrong all of your lumber will be out of proportion as far as your thickness.

Easy assembly using parts pic. excellent quality. Used Locktite to assemble as extra precaution because of no lock or Nylock nuts and concern about loss of nuts over time due to vibration.

I first purchased and returned a Chinese knock-off mill due to the long lead times from Granberg for their G-778-36 model. While you have to weigh the wait times against the overall value Granberg’s G-778-36 will not disappoint you as the cheap mills found elsewhere.

It’s a very durable tool. It makes accurate cut sizes. I made my own oiler and adapted it to the post. The whole thing works like a charm. It’s safe to use as long as the fasteners are torqued enough, especially the two connected to the bar.

Scary thought but safety first, second and third!.

So far, I love this mill. Ive only cut one board so far, but I see no problems for more. The quality is excellent, and the directions are easy to follow, which is something you dont always receive.

Overall this is a good product when you need to rough cut a large log or beam, but there are some factors to keep in mind. 1. This is better than freehand, but not by a lot. It’s still possible to get off square, especially on a deeper cut.

2. The blade camp could be deeper. It’s difficult to place it without it interfering with the chain. 3. Check the tightness of the clamp screws frequently, and tighten them in turn to begin with. Make sure they’re both tight before you start cutting.

If one comes lose and the clamp moves, it’ll dig into the chain and cause a mess.

I purchased this Beam Cutter recently, and am beginning to get over the learning curve associated with it. First off, there are zero instructions with this unit, nothing printed in the box but the receipt and packing label.

I searched the manufactures website too, and not having any instructions was no accident, there are none there either. YouTube offered my only choice to learn how to properly use it. If you are very careful and use your head you can saw nice reasonably proper dimensional lumber with this device and your saw.

I first off had to order a “rip chain” instead of the standard cross cut chain that comes on a chain saw. The rip chain cuts much better in this application, it is worth the fifty bucks I paid. I had to use my largest saw because no one offers a rip chain for my midsized Stihls, leaving my Stihl 038 with 24″ bar as my only choice to use.

The saw handles the task well, but it is a lot heavier. I started out mounting a log vertically so that I could attach a 2X4 to a pallet with the log sitting on it and screwing the 2X4 to the log to hold it in position to saw straight.

My first cuts were great, straight and basically proper dimension. Over time my repositioning of the log after each cut threw me off somewhat, and the last half of my lumber was not nearly as “nicely done.

” Some of this I must attribute to fatigue and not properly aligning the log to the board, as I am in my 60s and this job with a big saw and long bar is very tiring. Horizontally it cuts easier, and I was able to keep it a lot straighter making my lumber come out nice all the way through that log.

This is a thirty dollar fixture, but if you are careful and you keep your wits about you nice lumber can be sawed with this simple device. I chose to saw mine an inch and three quarter thick, so that I may plane it well and even joint it some if need be, all in the process of making 3/4″ thick finished lumber.

One must facilitate a proper cradle or bed for the log to lay in so that you can saw, move the 2X4 guide board, remount it and saw again. I finally realized some of my cradle will be sawn up in the process every time, I simply remake the lower mounts from two by lumber each time and don’t worry about the loss of short pieces used in this process.

It is not a waste of money, it works well if you plan ahead and take your time, think things through and act accordingly. I get tree trunks from folks cutting them down that do not want them, therefore I can afford to make a few mistakes learning.

It is likely best to expect there to be a learning curve with this thing, no one was born knowing how to saw with it, and once again, there are no directions with the thing. Lawyers, what can is say.

The tool helped me cut steps out of cedar logs, far easier and better than the hand-made jig I had been using before. The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is that for some reason they made the channel 1/4 to 3/8 wider than a standard 2×4, so either you deal with the slop as you move the channel down the lumber, or you rip a 2×6 down to exactly the right size.

Also there were no instructions for exactly how to use the device, but their tech support folks were available and explained the motion used with my saw so that worked out. The teeth on the inside of the channel do keep the channel in place nicely while moving the saw along it’s cutting path, perhaps these teeth would be enough to solve the slop problem – don’t know because I ripped a board to fit exactly before I started work on my logs.

The chainsaw bar was bought as a backup replacement for my Milwaukee M18 Fuel chainsaw. It fits the chainsaw well. The pricing was good and the bar shipped quickly. I am pleased with the transaction and would do it again if and when needed.

Also would recommend to a friend.

had to order a new bar because i was using the original one to bore into a piece of wood and the sprocket tip separated. up till then it worked great and this one seems fine so far

Great Milwaukee 16″ chainsaw bar replacement. This was the only place I found that offered these bars, so I bought two. The ground shipping was also very fast. Works like a charm, just can’t let the family borrow it anymore.

I have used this on two job sites now and I’ve had excellent results. I purchased two sets to give me additional length. It would have been a more complete product if they had added one more set of connectors.

To get full use of the two sets I need to come up with another way to connect the last extension. You can buy a connector kit, but I think it should have been included.

I worked in the pulp industry for a few years. Pine is a very soft wood, and as long as you have a good chainsaw and keep it sharp, you should have no problem milling it. Yes. That is what this does.

You just need to cut once with another flat guide attached to the log (a board or in place of the more expensive rails, just don’t cut your screws) and then adjust the depth to desired thickness and follow the flat cut for all later cuts.

I just started milling my own timber and needed something to ensure the first cut is level. This works exactly as advertised. Easy to setup and easy to use. I’m very happy with this product.

I’ve looked at several of these and they are pretty straight forward. Yea the directions arnt exactly what most would expect but with how lots of company’s are useing blown up pictures for there items these were better than most.

After putting it together I used my sthil 040 with a 24inch bar and full chisel chain cut and sharpened to 10 degrees. My test subject was a nice peice of cherry made up a few slabs that came out very nice! One I cut at 1 inch ran it threw a plainer a hand full of times which brought it down to a 3/4 board which was amazing! The cherry wood had been down and seasoned for 2 years so there was a little cracking in the finnished product but very manageable.

I will be building a kiln soon in order to manage moisture loss but so far am tickled with this little mill.

Parts are well made, welds were good, everything fit together like it’s supposed to. All hardware was included, with nothing missing, in a nifty reusable sack. All necessary tools for assembly were provided, including disposable fabric gloves.

The directions are good, but the print is small and the images fuzzy. There is a chart with pictures of the parts, by name and and number, which I found very helpful in understanding the directions.

Got it on time and have to say I was pretty impressed with the quality of the parts. The aluminum rails are very well finished and the steel parts appear to be chromed. Being an “off brand” I honestly expected to see some crude parts but this thing is sturdy, well built and looks really good.

I mean really good. I’d defiantly buy it again. I will only update if its fuction does not match its build quality, so if I don’t update this it’s safe to assume I’m in the timber making up slabs! Thanks Carmyra and Farmertech! Oh, I will add.

the directions stink, just an exploded view and parts list but very doable with common sense.

This is a great mill guide, well worth the money. I was sceptical when ordering due to comments about other mill guides on line missing hardware and parts but this one had everything required plus a few extra pieces of hardware.

I would definitely recommend this product, is is well designed with good quality control.

Great for getting the first cut flat when making boards. Chainsaw mill slides smoothly along rails. Allows for better even cuts.

The sections are light weight and easy to assemble to the desired length at the work site. Put together in no time and used the same day. If your considering buying this, I would say buy it now!
