20 Best Chainsaws For Homeowners (2022 Updated)

I bought this chainsaw 6 months ago. It worked fine and started fairly easy when I used Trufuel 50:1. One day the chain fell off while it was running. I wasn’t sure if it was my fault or the machine, but when I took the cover off and put on a new chain I could not put the cover back (now I know that I need to reset the brake).

Brought it to Canadian Tire at Uxbridge but they WOULD NOT take it for repair. It said very clearly on the website there is a TWO YEAR REPAIR Warranty at any Canadian Tire location and I had the machine for 6 months.

No point of arguing with the lady. I contacted Husqvarna and was told to go to a service center but the shop manager said they would not honor the warranty (Huh!!??). Also, when I called 1-800 Husqvarna you can NEVER talk to a live person, it always tells you to visit their website.

Anyway, I am trying to purchase a replacement cover from Husqvarna and then I would try to sell this chainsaw. I ended up buying a STIHL from the service center where I know I can get good after sales support.

Husqvarna is not bad but there are virtually no dealer/warranty support.

Bought in March of 2022 at tractor supply. Used 3 different cutting sessions. Has not ran correctly since I got it!I! Continiously wont start, wont run full throttle!! Was advised at tractor supply that it was adjusted at sea level.

Has the carb adjusted for the mountains of Northeast Tennessee. It ran like a scalded dog for one cutting session 6 trees. Picked it up the next day and same old song and dance wont run full throttle, wont stay running and just basically a piece of crap!! Thos has been the worse chainsaw that I have ever owned from day one.

I bought this at CTC a month ago after first trying to save a few bucks on a larger, cheaper off brand saw. That first one never even started so I returned it and bought the Husqvarna 120. Good move.

Started after a few pulls and it works great on smaller to medium sized limbs and downed trees. One thing I did discover. Don’t skimp with regular grade fuel. I tried that at first and though it started up quickly, it didn’t run very smoothly and stalled out a lot.

I switched over to premium gas with Husqvarna 2 cycle oil and it was a different story. It now starts right up, idles well and runs perfectly under load. Very happy with this purchase.

” Brought this chainsaw after my petrol Mcculoch gave up the ghost after a decade of use, i have never owned a electric motor chainsaw before so was unsure what to expect. Set up was very easy (10 minutes) and it looked the buisness, light weight and easy to handle and carry.

First impressions was that it had enough power, let the saw do the work and didnt force it through the tree too fast, chain stayed on, it stretched and i re tightened after a few mintes, standard for new chains and noticed just how little oil it kicked out compared to my petrol chainsaw.

Then after approx 10 minutes noticed how the cutting ability had reduced greatly, did the built in sharpening stage that helped but not a lot. I thought maybe for a budget chainsaw they gave you a cheap chain to get you going only, i ordered a new Oregon chain, they are not a cheap chain by any standard but expected this one to last longer, how wrong i was, approx 10 minutes of cutting time and this one was also blunt, used the built in sharpening gadget again but it did not make a lot of difference.

Oregon are obviously riding the gimmick of the built in sharpening gadget but it certainly does not live up to expectations, a cheap chain will only get you so far, even with sharpening. A real shame, a nice chainsaw body with power to carry out light to medium jobs but very cheap and nasty chains indeed, I have used cheap chains before and they have lasted for 4-5 trees, this one was a top range priced chain that lasted for less than one tree.

Oregon have adapted their chains for this saw to fit in with the sharpening gimmick, if the adaptation has effected the durability of the chains or if they are using cheap metal i am unsure, but the recommended chains to fit this saw are certainly not worth the price tag.

I will look at purchasing a chain to fit this saw from elsewhere and probably from a different manufacturer, as 10 minutes of effective cutting time is not cost effective in any ones book. Nice chainsaw but do not buy the stock chain to fit this saw, it would be cheaper to get proffesionals in than the amount of chains you will use.

As hot water dispensers go, Ive seen/had/used them all. This is the only one that ticks all the boxes. If youre looking for a single mug shot, then the small Breville Hotcup is fine – although it gets pretty grimy and sounds like a choking baby when it dispenses.

You will though, inevitably, find that one cup doesnt satisfy, and search for a larger/adjustable one to cover the carrots in the saucepan. The larger Breville however suffers from a fatal design flaw that theyve never felt the commercial need to fix – in that the hoses are the same for its smaller brother, and boil their way loose in about month, killing the water flow.

This, along with other designs also dont dispense nearly enough water, even when fully functioning. Which leaves the Morphy R. Its large, and not pretty, but very rectangular so it can be placed neatly in most places.

Its expensive, but shows it with its very good build quality, display and button controls. It amply dispenses small to large quantities of water thats very easily controlled. It has a neat double spout so you can fill two cups simultaneously.

It also has a self detecting cleaning cycle which is essential since the element is enclosed. This will warn you when it needs descaling and instructions on how to do that are included. Other v small criticism: the hopper is too small for the amount of water it could suck-up in a maximum boil (due to a safety feature on the valve).

This isnt a problem if you dont insert the captured Britta filter – filling instead from your separate filter jug that Im sure you have (since youre looking at hot water dispensers for Petes sake!). Filling this way means you can store more water in the hopper.

Do not consider any other product. This one is the winner. Sorry to waffle.

Having never used a chain saw before, much research was conducted & in particular regards health & safety. Opted for the electric version & this model had added safety features & chain self sharpening.

My experience was very rewarding. Admittedly, I only had a relatively small area to clear, in total approx 20 large trees of various thickness. I used the self sharpening device once or twice but really to keep the blade fresh.

Cut through everything with ease & it felt very comfortable & very safe to use. The Oregon Chainsaw Gloves are excellent too. Just add hard hard & off you go! NO ISSUES whatsoever & was amazed at how little oil or maintenance required.

As stated decent little saw. Used it on lots of trimming already at this point from oak to spruce. The gas fill hole is extremely small need a really small noozle on your can roughly an inch, or a funnel.

The idle was set really high so I need to re-adjust that to keep it from spinning dangerously fast after cuts. The wire hanger on the back is doing well for my set up. The actual part that hols it on is a cast looking bolt on its however a tad chincy seeming were the plastic keeper that holds it firmly out or away but haven’t had a problem yet, easily hooks onto a caribeaner on the side of my saddle and I’m using an old dog clasp to attach to my tether as it seems like it might wear through webbing kinda quickly.

The other qualm I’m having is it seems to be starting hard but that may be due to the idle situation. That said I have gotten it started every time with a little choke trickery. Ive run other echos that started flawlessly.

For the price I’d rate it an A+ even with all that, it’s a good product and chews through the wood without hesitation. If your looking for an industrial strength saw you could easily spend another 700 bucks.

Being a heavy duty hobbyists I’d recommend this saw over and over. Happy buyer.

My first use of this saw was a 100ft, 32 DBH dead fir tree removal. With a brand new (stock Echo) 14-inch bar and Oregon 50 chain, this saw powered through each limb almost too fast. I sent the top, and in bucking the tree down never changed to a larger saw! It was cutting that well.

Stopped about fifteen feet up per customer request. Never ran out of fuel. It’s been two months since that day. Easy to start, comfortable saw handle, small pull handle means my hand doesn’t hit it when going from left to right hand.

Make sure your high and low idle adjustments are dialed in correctly (check YouTube). Initially bought this due to wrist fatigue (Repetitive Movement Stress) from 201TC, it’s a good saw this Echo 355T.

Wrists haven’t hurt since I started using it, very well balanced. If it bogs down while cutting, check your air filter, make sure you’ve revved it up before starting your cut and it’ll do great. Those fill holes are quite small though.

My favorite thing about the saw is its name. 3+5+5=13. That’s right, Lucky 13. Go get one.

The CS-355T by Echo is by far the best trim saw I’ve ever used. At under 10 pounds, this majestic orange machine feels much lighter than it is in the hand and on the saddle. With a satisfying growl and loud enough bark to tell you, the operator, that it will cut.

Cut it does, with nearly no hesitation using a properly sized and sharp chain. The safety features this saw offers are simple and easy to operate. NOT RECOMMENDED: I’m almost positive this beast would push an 18-inch bar and chain, but the maximum is 16 inches.

Unmodified, this saw is a real treat to use in the trees. I look forward to many years of consistent and steady work from this Echo CS-355T.

Many using chainsaws don’t understand how important a sharp chain is when cutting and that dropping the chain in the dirt just one time immediately dulls chains. Cutting should feel almost effortless, if not you need to switch out to professionally sharpened or new chain.

A MS-170 with sharp chain will outpace 044 & 066 Stihl models w/ dull chains without question. Buy more than one chain and have them sharpened by Ace or local hardware store. Use the chain brake. yes, it is designed to help minimize cutting yourself from kickback, but use it every time you change your cutting position/location, pull or remove cut limbs with saw in hand (better off putting saw down), and while idling on the ground.

You do not want to fall and accidentally hit the trigger with chain brake off or reach for a limb with a spinning chain that hits the trunk resulting in kickback. CHAIN BRAKE!!! Wear chaps and other appropriate safety gear!! Seeing someone cut by a chainsaw is simply indescribable and in retrospect often avoidable by simply using the chain brake, wearing chaps, helmet/face guard, etc.

Know how to safely start and operate the saw. It’s in the owner’s manual, so take the time to read it. With a chainsaw you do NOT want to look back wishing you had. Stihl makes the best, most reliable, safe, and efficient chainsaws (of course that’s only my opinion, but I have been using chainsaws for 25 years, first cutting full-time post-hurricane Fran).

Any saw is only as safe as the operator. learn the safety features and USE them.

You get what you payed for. I like the power Stihl produces in chainsaws but hate how it takes for them to break down. That’s why I mainly use Husqvarna, slightly less power but will last 3x as long.

My dad was a logger, he had his Husqvarna 372XP’s nearly 20 years while using them 8-9 hours a day 5 days a week. The only reason they quit working is because brother accidentally burnt down shed they were stored in.

But for something small and easy to use, you get what you pay for with the MS170.

1- ordered online, paid for online. Arrived at store with all required documentation, was asked for none of it, the individual behind the counter began to ring me up as if i was going to pay, again. Informed them i bought online, really threw the guy through a loop.

No start up procedure preformed 2- got home, dumped out substance from the fuel tank. Didnt smell like fuel. Filled tank with required fuel mix. Attempted to start per stihls instructions. Attempted to the point that i got a blister.

Being a mechanic by trade i verified spark, the plug was wet so it was certainly recieving fuel. The plug gap was way off. Not what youd expect from factory despite price point. Then again, i wouldnt expect to pull and pull without starting to the point you begin diagnosing a no start condition on a new saw.

3- several visual indicators showed this was possibly a pre owned or returned model. Wood chips still on the chain, something in the fuel tank and clippings inside the chain cover. I didnt pay new saw price for a used or refurbished piece of junk that i would have to struggle to start or begin to diagnose a no start condition.

I will make an attempt to start tomorrow once i get home from work. Any struggle to start this machine and it will be immediately returned for either a legitimate brand new replacement or a full refund.

I have had 2 of these saws, Both of which have issues with the fuel tank vent clogging. The first saw had about 5 hours on it. and the 2nd has about 7 hours. Both saws would run great under load for a few minutes, then fall on there face.

they would idle fine and rev up fine, But under load they had no power. Take the fuel cap off and put it back on, They would run fine again for a few minutes. Other times they would develop a really high idle and to get the idle to come down you would again need to remove and reinstall the fuel cap.

At first I thought there was a defect of some sort on the first saw, Because there is no reason a new saw with 5 hours on it should have an issue with the fuel tank vent. Exchanged it for a new saw and the new (2nd) saw has the same issue.

I believe there is a poor design with the fuel tank vent on these saws, I was going to make a minor modification to the tank vent, But decided I will be retuning this saw and getting my money back. There is absolutely no reason a saw with 5 to 7 hours should have any issues like that.

It really is a shame, When the saws ran properly they ran amazing. I was pretty impressed with the power on this little 40cc engine.

First off I have owned this saw for a little over 5 years, I know it well. If you are having starting or idling issues, adjust the carb screws. Also I always flip the choke up, give it a pull then back down, and pull again, don’t gas it.

It’ll high Rev automatically, you can take over with the gas soon after but this normally gets it going in between cuts. Early on I hated this thing with a passion. I am unsure if it was the break in, or just me getting used to it, but eventually it became like every other husqvarna I had used in the past, reliable.

I prefer bigger gas saws, but for a lightweight saw, this thing is a workhorse. Like many reviews, initially I cursed this thing, and nearly returned it. After a bit of time I learned a bit more about it, and finally figured out the differences between it and the older husqvarnas.

I bought this chainsaw at my local homedpot store in July of 2019, when I was looking for a chainsaw no one in my area had any and I got the last one on the shelf. I got it because we had some really bad storms come through my area and had some fallen tree limbs and a dead tree in my backyard, I took pictures of the tree and the saw.

I’m going to say that I’m very pleased with this Pulan pro 16” saw it’s a sold performer. I was able to cut the tree down and clean up my yard and cut some fire wood all with the same chain. I do run a 50:1 gas and oil mix in all of my 2 cycle small engine equipment.

I’m a small engine repair mechanic and we always say better a little more oil then not enough oil. This makes the engine run cooler in hot weather and keeps everything well lubeicated. The only problem I had with this chainsaw was that the idle circuit was set to low on it.

so I just raised it up just enough to keep it running and have no problems with it. I use really good quality 2 cycle oil and bar and chain oil for it. It’s a great chainsaw for a home owner that needs to cut some tree limbs down and some fire wood.

Yes I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good quality product for the home tree clean up.

Seems quite a bit heavier than 10 lbs but handles pretty nicely and doesn’t pull jerk or twist while cutting hard. The weight isn’t really an issue while cutting logs on the ground since the weight pushes in the direction of the cut and you just guide it.

Cutting a tree (sideways) is a little unwieldy but not a problem for 1-2 cuts in short succession. I use this for medium to heavy cutting, not pruning or trimming. Easy to start, follow the directions to the letter.

Has a short pull, don’t try to yank it like a lawn mower or you’ll run past the end of the rope and break the recoil mechanism. My friend broke it by trying to pull well past the length of the rope on the first pull.

I suggest slowly pulling the rope until it reaches the end of travel to get a feel for where the limits are before actually trying to start it. Parts were readily available and pretty straightforward to change if you’ve ever worked on lawn equipment.

The plastic cover for the sparkplug on mine could be opened with the included wrench tool.

A huge pine tree almost hit my home after Zeta passed through. I physically could not manage my heavier chainsaws and found this 16 inch saw at very low price. I risked this saw and was pleased with the performance and value.

The pine tree top was about 18 inches in diameter and this saw managed to cut it without having to call and pay a tree service. I can’t comment on long-term service but the power for a small saw was excellent.

The allen wrenches were chromed oversize and did not fit the allen screws but scraping the plating off worked. The adjusting screw is on the side cover and not on the blade side front as the instructions appeared to show.

Once I figured this out assembly was easy. The choke required significant force to lock in choke mode to start. the saw served my immediate needs all things considered. I mixed the fuel with more oil than recommended and this had no negative effect on the performance and I did not have to readjust the carb as the factory setting was fine.

So where to begin with this little guy. First off let me start by saying that I have extensive experience around chainsaws, not only on the farm but more importantly within the fire service. I’ve been around a whole slough of saws, Husqvarna, Stihl, Dolmar, Craftsman etc.

I’m not knocking the other brands but as for this Echo saw? I bought a CS-400 back in 2012, I’ve used it on I don’t even know how many tree removal projects, I also used it to build a 4200 square foot log cabin.

I ran it over with my pickup, broke the safety brake handle and bent the bar. “Obviously I had to replace those two items. ” Aside from that, literally the only thing I’ve done to my echo is replace a spark plug and blow out the air filter a couple of times, and probably a couple dozen chains.

I literally cannot kill this thing. It has honestly been the best chain saw I have ever owned. It has also been the most reliable out of every saw I’ve ever been around. I love my Echo!.

Had this saw for 4 years now. Use it for clearing brush, trimming trees around the yard and some cutting firewood. In the time I’ve had it, I’ve had exactly ZERO mechanical issues with this saw. Really a great saw for cutting tops and limbs under 12″ or so in diameter.

For a 40cc saw it really makes good power, as good as any COMPRABLY SIZED saw out there. Cuts are fast and smooth, very little vibration(even wiht a semi-chisel chain). Light and easy to use all day.

Great saw for general use, would be the only saw needed for clearing brush, trimming trees, if you needed to, could get by with it for cutting firewood(as long as you didn’t try to tackle trees too big for the saw).

All in all a great tool. The only thing I can say negative is it would be better suited to a 16″ bar than an 18″(although that is true of MOST saws in this catagory), with the smaller bar, this thing goes from very capable to a real beast.

I have owned this saw for 3 years now. It has cleared several acres of North Idaho trees for me from lodgepole to big ponderosa, red fir, and cedar, and and I’ve ran several hundred tanks of fuel through it.

The saw is amazing for its size. I purchased the 18″ bar version. I upgraded to the Oregon 62 advanced cut chain. Much more aggressive chain and bucks 16″ diameter logs with ease. I have ran this saw against several stihl and husky saws and this saw will keep up with saws 3 times the price.

It starts on the 2nd pull every time. (Follow the instructions on how to start it). 1st pull after its warm. The chains stay sharp for 4-6 straight hours of bucking firewood. Then a quick file and your back in business.

The new chains tend to stretch. If you don’t re-tighten after the first few cuts they get very sloppy. The stock chain did this and ejected off the bar. Oregon chains really wake this saw up. Had it pro tuned after 20 hours of use.

It’s a keeper. Can use it all day. Very light. Nice around the house saw! I have bigger saws for bigger jobs. But this saw is great for 95% of everything most homeowners will need.

I decided on the Husqvarna 435 because I needed something for cutting limbs and branches and smaller trunks. I have a 460 rancher, and it has proven to be a workhorse when cutting anything over 16 inches in diameter.

But I don’t need a 24″ bar all the time. I was very satisfied with the 435 for several reasons. One, it cranked very easily. It warmed up very quickly, and it literally went through the limbs and several tree trunks like a knife through butter.

I know everybody says that, but it’s true. Very lightweight and easy to handle. Even felled a few 6 to 8 in diameter trees with it. One was a double White oak trunk, the two trees have grown together about a foot and a half up, and after I filled the two trees, which were about 7″ in diameter, I cut cookies out of the conjoined trunk at the bottom.

The song went right through them with minimal effort. The blade is still sharp, although I will probably touch up the filing a little bit before the next time I use it. I ran it on and off for about 2 hours this weekend.

Seasoned white oak, red oak, sweetgum, green white oak, and green-black walnut were not a match for it. It cut them all equally as well. Also, it had plenty of power but was lightweight enough to control any hint at a kickback.

I would highly recommend it.

This has been a headache since the day I purchased it. It leaked bar oil and gasoline right off the shelf. It then spent 2 weeks in the service department. They said they fixed it, but it continued to leak oil everywhere.

Took it back for another 2-week visit. It stopped leaking oil, but would not idle correctly. I adjusted the idle, but then it wouldn’t stay running. It will either idle so fast that the chain spins like crazy.

I took it to another shop, and they told me to get another chainsaw. After new spark plug, filter, and fuel line, it just doesn’t work. It was safe to operate because the chain would just keep spinning.

The brake would stop it, but as soon as you released the brake, it was full speed again. Terrible product.

Purchased new in January 2018. Light weight, adequate power, and a good fit for my needs for occasional trimming of trees. Ran Husqvarna XP+ Premix Fuel-Oil which extended the warranty from 2-years to 4-years.

Meticulously cleaned and maintained. Wouldn’t start last week so I took it to the dealer. Received a call a few days later informing me that the piston and cylinder were badly scored and trash less than 4 months out of warranty and very low hours.

I guess it’s up to Husqvarna which brand of chainsaw I buy next.

I have not used the chainsaw much except to cut down a large oak tree. I wore out my previous saw cutting down so many trees. This saw has plenty of power and tore through the wood like butter. No problems with it at all.

I do have a bit of a problem holding the saw steady when pulling on the recoil rope because of I guess high compression. I tried putting my boot into the handle per instructions but my winter boots were to big.

I am 70 years old so probably weaker than other people using the saw. Anyway, I would buy it again with no hesitation. I did a lot of research on chainsaw brands and found this specific model has high marks compared to others.

I didn’t have to look around for long before buying this chainsaw. Such a good brand for a really good price. I needed it for regular use at home, cutting sections of trees for firewood. The saw comes packaged with the bar and chain separate, but its really easy to set-up.

Starting up and using the saw is very easy. The engine runs smoothly, with no smoke at all, no matter how you hold it (unlike others). I have had to fell a tree recently and it handled it no problem whatsoever.

Its comfortable and very efficient at cutting. I highly recommend this chainsaw to anyone looking for a reliable saw for home use. You can’t go wrong with Husqvarna – good kit and online help/videos etc.

I think it’s fair to say know more than the average bear about usability. I’m professor of human factors research at two medical schools (Univ of Penn and Univ at Buffalo), My Husqvarna chain saw has excellent handling and balance.

The safety features are also very well designed. Last, the ability to cut is superior to any chain saw I’ve every had.

I bought this saw a couple of months ago to help work our large Washington State acreage and to compliment our Husqvarna electric pole saw. This saw has exceeded all expectations. I use it all the time for limbing and cutting small to moderate size trees.

It truly performs. It is not the saw for falling the large trees we have. Our large pro gas Husqvarna does that work. Once those duties are done, the quiet 120i is our go to. No more yanking on a starter cord and that screaming high pitched noise and fume filled air.

Love my Husqvarna electric saws. Battery cost a bit expensive. Charger and battery connections are a little delicate so you must be careful to not damage male or female connectors. Compartment in saw for battery insertion could be a little more protected from weather so rain and snow water does not infiltrate compartment.

Again, love my Husqvarna battery saws.

I purchased this saw in December, but did not have an oppotunity to cut anything with it until late February. When I purchased the saw, I read through the manual, charged the battery, ran it a few times, but did not cut anything.

all seemed as it should be. Then, I disconnected the battery from the saw and stored it in my garage, until late Feb. When I went to use it, the battery charge level indicator would not illuminate, so I put it on the charger.

again, nothing. Re-tried it in the saw, nothing! I returned it to my dealer last week, they felt Husqvarna would simply replace the battery under warranty, but I have yet to hear anything. so we shall see.

Happy to update once there has been more to update, and hope to get it running and cutting soon (then I can do a real review of the saw’s performance)! hate to put 1 star across the board, but until it is usable, it is a useless $300 object! I’m confident that the saw will work fine once the battery is replaced, as I purchased it based on the positive reviews and price point.

I bought this saw over two years ago and the battery failed after five charges shortly after purchase. It ran well until the battery suddenly failed to take a charge. The replacement battery was too expensive to purchase and the collection of saw, charger, and battery have been shop debris for two years.

I have owned and operated many husqvarna products at home and work for many years. This is my only complaint of their brand. I would not recommend this product until the battery issue is resolved.

Purchased this through Craftsman Amazon, arrived within another box, which was nice. Opened it up and used it right away on a 30′ Pine Tree top that snapped off in the last storm and landed in my yard.

In addition, another tree that snapped, both with approx. 8″-10″ trunks at the largest. I had a 5. 0ah battery (60V) on hand so used that straight up and wow! Ordered Oregon Chain Oil to use as well and filled her up before starting.

Ran the chainsaw about 30 seconds to line the chain, visually making sure chain oil appeared on chain as well. Adjusted tension and away we went. and went, and went some more! Cut like butter! Adjusted the slack occasionally as it was new chain (of course) and checked oil frequently too.

Used chainsaw for a good hour+ a half and I quit before battery did! Was awesome not having to stop and gas up chainsaw, it did use oil at a pretty quick clip, but that’s ok, will only help keeping things running well.

I opened up the chain guard mid-way and was surprised it was pretty clear, not gummed up with too much sawdust or clippings. Was nice and quite too in comparison to the gas variety. Additionally, I like that when you release the switch, the chain stops pretty quickly! Overall very pleased and would recommend to anyone on the fence! Only suggestion I would make is the availability of a CASE for storage, not just a chain guard, even as an accessory or add-on purchase option.

I harvest branches and small trees for carving wooden spoons. Love the size of this saw because it fits in my backpack. Bought a pile of batteries so I can actually be productive with it. I’ve used it maybe a dozen times and now it doesn’t work.

Threw the chain, took it apart and put the chain back on. Threw the chain again and when put back on, the chain won’t spin. Checked the tension and its fine. Turned the gear wheel that drives the chain and I can hear it skipping a beat on the inside of the saw.

Came to the Craftsman website to find a user manual so that I can maybe service it myself only to find there is no manual available. Very disappointing for $150 saw. Guess I’ll take it apart blind and take my chances.

Great little chainsaw with decent battery life. I’ve been using it for small trees and limbs and it’s so much easier than my old Craftsman gas powered saw. Low noise and a less aggressive chain making for far less bucking and kickback.

I’d recommend it as an alternative to a small gas saw unless you’ve got more than a few trees or big limbs that you can’t wait for a recharge to get to. It seems ideal for most homeowners in need of a chainsaw for occasional minor use as it’s easy to use, isn’t loud, and isn’t fussy about fuel and oil.

Works great. I’d buy it again.

Bought a replacement chainsaw 18 months ago to replace a 20 year old veteran. I use a saw periodically 2-4 times per year, mainly to control tree growth/clear storm damage. I have probably used it 6times proper (or rather tried using it).

The oil/chain dispenser, worked when the unit was at rest, rather than working to lube the chain during use. This caused chain/bar wear problems and constant chain adjustments. The unit often required 1-2 hours cool down before it would start again.

Garbage spark plug replaced and fed quality premixed premium 50-1 fuel to aid starting. Chain brake assembly started to loosen and loose screws/bolts from handles, casing and pulley start. Pulley start mechanism sheared of main crank removing any possible way of ever starting again.

Home Depot, weren’t too helpful. I only wish the customer service person was as vocal, enthusiastic and over helpful as the sales attendant that sold ‘this quality chainsaw’ to my dear wife. Ryobi customer service were helpful, organized a Saskatoon repairer to complete ‘warranty’ work.

The tool repair facility were very helpful and within a day diagnosed exactly what was wrong, unfortunately one of the items needed to repair is discontinued, so I had to wait approximately 2 months to authorize ‘a replacement’.

Because Ryobi couldn’t repair due to parts being discontinued (on an 18 month old chainsaw?????), they gladly replaced my chainsaw with a refurbished model (identical to my old one that has discontinued replacement parts – which goes entirely against my thought process of logic).

Now just counting down my remaining original warranty lifespan and correlated to the time it takes to the expected and inevitable failure of my replacement chainsaw, that has discontinued replacement parts.

Do yourself a favour, invest an extra $50-$100, in a quality chainsaw that has a quality warranty. Sorry Ryobi, you had the chance (over 3 months) to step up to the plate, realize your product has issues, then significantly improve the model, yet abandoning everyone that paid good money for your previous mistake which allowed you time and money to develop the model I have, into something much better, that you feel I don’t deserve as a replacement???.

Great little unit for the price. Started up out of the box with zero trouble. Cuts stuff fine. The “heavy duty case” is a complete joke though. It’s more like a plastic sheath used for shipping. I broke a piece of it just unboxing the saw.

Is it a high-end saw good for taking down old-growth hardwood or for feeding a wood furnace all winter long? Of course not. But it is a nice compact saw small enough to take to cut some firewood and powerful enough deal with the odd tree limb I was going to get a refurbished Poulan from a certain discount auto parts store but I’m glad I went this route instead.

The people I know who bought the refurb spend more time fixing it than they do cutting things.

Saw arrived in a box. Literally thrown in a box with a chain a bar and the power head. All three had smashed around in transit. No a deal breaker but not awesome. I go to put the saw together and notice the saw is full of saw dust and oil soaked pulp.

“Referbished ” may be a bit of a stretch. No the less for the price I moved on. Got the saw together and filled with bar oil and fuel. Tried for about 20 mins on a 50deg day to get it started. No go.

I dig in to it and there is spark and I have fuel on the plug. Check for compression. We have compression. After another 10 mins or so I set the carb to the standard 1 1/4 turn out car settings. To my surprise the slow jet was almost 4 turns out.

Once I did that it fired right up. After it warmed up I set the carb to my liking and now it starts 2nd or 3rd pull cold or first pull warm. It also cuts darn good. To test it out I turned a 10 and 8 inch diameter tree into firewood.

No issues. Runs like a champ and doesn’t big or run out of power. Don’t get me wrong it’s not a 60cc plus saw but for most this will get the job done. This would be a 5 star review if it showed up running and with a proper amount of packing material.

Fyi to tune this you will need the pacman carb but driver.

I had to cut up a couple of downed trees over the weekend. It was lightweight and sufficiently powerful to get the job done. It was a little harder to start when it was warm than when it was cold. When it was cold, it started right up in 1-2 pulls.

When it was warm-to-hot I had to fiddle with the choke to get the airflow at just the right amount of air. Usually when 2-stroke engines are warm or hot, I completely turnoff the choke and they start right up.

I have an new Echo leaf blower that is less finicky to start. I would still recommend this, but I would like to do a side-by-side comparison with a similar Echo chainsaw.

Very nice chainsaw. Used for one season now. The easy start works great and is super easy, just don’t tug on it hard like a lawn mower – a little pull is all that’s needed and the easy start mechanism does the rest.

Combined with the convenient, tool-less adjustments, I think the “C-BE” is the way to go. The saw is very light and handy to carry around my property while clearing trails. However, one of the things that keeps it light is a small gas tank – plan on re-filling frequently and turn it off if you have to do something else for even a minute.

I drank the company kool aide and use the Stihl gas for convenience and to ensure that I don’t fowl the engine with bad gas or a bad mix – it’s really not that much more expensive than mixing your own and keeps for a long time, nice since I don’t use the saw every week.

I’ve had good experience with the F&F small engine shop for other tools, so I know they can fix it if I break it.

I think the 100 series of chainsaws must be for people that don’t use them much. It’s way underpowered. The auto oiler doesn’t seem to work much. It’s hard to start. Can’t get a more aggressive chain for it.

Don’t get me started about their stupid chain tensioner. Get the one that you tighten with nuts. Mine is always coming loose. Overall I should have stepped up to the 200 series with a bigger engine.

Well, This is an update to my last review. After now having the saw for over 6 months now, I can say this, “When its running, it runs very well”. Now, that being said, I am not having an issue KEEPING it running.

Every time it goes back to idle, it stalls out. (I use premixed fuel only!) So, I am going to see what the “Tech services” people at Makita have to say on Monday. I know this unit has in the past had an issue with going from full throttle back to idle so i always have slowed it down easy.

But now, it dies right out. It will start right back up by putting choke on half way and one pull it starts, but sorry, I need my saw to idle. I have fell more the 20 huge ash trees this summer and cut them up.

So it did do what I wanted it to do, but the saw needs to keep running in order for me to give it my full blessing. I will keep everyone posted as to what happens next!.

This is a rebranded Dolmar which Makita took over back in 1991. Dolmar is a top notch company better then Stihl in my opinion. Makita Engineering Germany GmbH (Dolmar) is one of the oldest manufacturers of portable gasoline chainsaws and is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany.

The company founder, Emil Lerp, developed in 1927 the “type A” saw, which weighed 125 lb and required two men to operate. It was tested on Mount Dolmar in the Thüringer forest and the company took its name from the test site.

This chainsaw works very well. Very easy to start, well balanced, cuts very quickly, good bar size for the power head. The quality is obvious, made in Germany, feels very well constructed and is, has a magnesium crankcase, anti vibration springs work great.

When this saw is at full throttle, almost 14,000rpm, it runs so smooth, very well balanced engine. Loads of power, awesome saw!.

This is my 3rd chainsaw in past 15 or so years: Stihl MS350, Makita DCS6401, Makita EA6100P. I live on 6 acres, half of it forest. Cook, heat, warm water all with firewood. Have big trees on steep hill, cutting mostly windblown trees.

All very dangerous, very difficult on steep inclines. Previous two saws I bought were used, beaten saws, Makita 6401 was discarted from commercial use by arborist, but it still proved to be a work-horse.

So, choosing Makita again was a no-brainer. The new EA6100P has all features as all pro competitors: A spring load pull start, fuel bubble to pump fuel initially, one lever to choke, run and stop. These features are a not big deal, but I like them.

The saw is lighter than the previous, but it really does not matter as carrying the saw to the job is the easiest thing compared to the rest of work. The saw cuts well, but the previous did just the same: it is mostly about having a sharp chain.

With Stihl I used to hand sharpen, but in retrospect, it was a bad idea. Electric sharpener I use now gets the chain really sharp, the saw goes through a rock hard 3ft diameter douglas-fir in seconds just by using the saw own weight through the cut.

What is better? A lot. * The gas and oil fill stoppers. These provide very positive closing and easy opening. Big deal? Well, my Stihl saw died while the bayonet stopper on bar oil filler somehow popped out during a dangerous cut that took all the attention.

* The chain cover over the drive sprocket provides no pockets to pack sawdust, it remains clean, unclogged. * The real air filter. * Very well thought out top cover, so easy off, see all critical parts.

Everything remains clean. * New orange color. I work alone, often go back to get tools. I like finding my saw right away. * It is quiet! I never wore ear protection, because it is important to sense what is going on with the work.

I want to hear. This saw is quiet enough that I do not have to worry about loss of hearing. * All my saws worked without vibrations, so does this one. May be all saws are like that, I do not know. * Costs 1/2 of equivalent Stihl saw, but I feel that Makita is a better saw.

Reliability is terrible The clutch and all or have gone bad in a little over a year. I bought this promotional Saw at a discount new but it is been a pain in my side every since even though it does not get used once a quarter.

Ace Hardware has been extremely helpful but was unable to provide a warranty. I will never buy another Stihl saw.

Pleasure to use and plenty of power. I got it for the longer bar because it was a bit of a struggle with its baby brother, the MS170 with the job at hand. It continues to surprise me with how it performs with the larger diameter trees being turned into firewood.

Should have got this one a bit earlier.

This Husqvarna chainsaw is an awesome chainsaw. The 16-inch blade is perfect for cutting down trees and trimming branches. The chainsaw comes ready to use in the box. It has one oil pack, which needs to be mixed with 1 gallon of gasoline.

It does not come with chain oil, so be sure to buy this. The instructions to use and maintain are very clear. There are also plenty of videos online to show how to use and operate the chainsaw.

This Husqvarna chainsaw replaced my Stihl which I had for 19 years. The chain tension adjustment needs a supplied tool and is robust and easy to use. There is no visible oil or fuel gauge. The Husqvarna is well built and easy to use and worked out cheaper than the equivalent Stihl model.

It is an excellent saw when you get it started. It has the same problem many 435 & 440’s have. It will go into compression lock and you cannot get a full pull on the starter rope. If you let it rewind and pull again you can get it started eventually.

Once you warm it up this problem disappears. My 135 now has 8 tanks of gas through it. I have replaced the starter pulley, but I think it needs a four lug pulley instead of the two lug one.

I bought this Stihl 661 almost a year ago and from the first tank of fuel it would turn itself off like a light switch constantly. I would have to restart it 2 or 3 times to make 1 cut. But then it would not always do it some days it would work great some days it was completely unusable.

And over time it has gotten worse and worse to the point now it idles very rough on start up and then when you hit the trigger it dies. But now if it dies it will absolutely not start again for many hours.

It is not the fuel I run multiple other saws blowers and trimmers with the same fuel with no issues. I even bought a gallon of stihl pre mix didn’t change a thing. I have brought it back to the dealer 4 times and they have replaced to many parts to count.

It is currently at the dealer now. And if doesn’t get fixed this time I will NEVER buy a stihl product again. I own multiple stihl products newer and older and have had zero issues until now and this is the most expensive one.

I am not a professional either I am just a guy with land who likes chainsaws. I maybe at most cut up 6 cords of wood a year and that’s between all my saws. I bought this saw because it’s supposedly the best and I buy the best to not have to deal with these issues.

And to top it off stihl’s garbage of a warranty for there “professional” saws is up so no i will be paying to fix a saw that has not worked from day one. I will update my review when I get my saw back from the dealer.

This is there last shot to make it right. Hopefully then I can turn this into a positive review. And now that I have had these issues I have read many other people with what sounds like the same issues.

So there is something wrong with these ms661 and stihl knows it but they don’t have a fix and seem to be ignoring it. They need to go back to the drawing boards on this saw. DO NOT BUY!.

Purchase Stihl Chainsaw approximately a month ago. It has been a nightmare ever since. First time I used it it worked like a champ. Then the next day it would not start. Thought it was the spark. Replaced the spark.

Changed the fuel. Only used the recommend 50:1 gas/ oil carton sold at Ace Hardware. Brought it to the store for the 1 year warranty. Tech there could not figure it out. He sent out to their main techs.

I was told my engine was no longer operational and not covered under warranty. This is absolutely ludicrous considering the cost of the chainsaw. I bought a brand new one to avoid having to continuously repair it.

Never again.

I have Huskys 70cc saw (572xp 2020) and got this 462C (2020) as well after learning about it and then handling it in a store. Then I got a chance to use it. I had a 24in bar on it and I remember saying to myself, ‘Wow’.

It RIPPED. And It was lighter. and it just felt better. Like GM/Cadillac , same company but def a difference. I just was using it with a 36in bar today, put a new chain on and bucked about an 4- 4 1/2 ft tree.

My husky is now my back up saw.

I’ve generally leaned toward husqvarna saws running rancher and professional grades, but was looking for a light weight saw for limbing and light duty work. Overall I’ve put about 15 hours of run time on the MS180 and it had been an absolute pleasure to run, and find myself reaching for it over the bigger pro saws because it’s so light and easy to handle.

I went with the basic entry level 180 model. It’s started up great with only a few pulls every time. I do a thorough cleaning every 3-4 tanks of gas, and sharpen as needed. I would recommend this saw to anyone doing light duty work.

Have used this saw daily for the last 40 days. Problems 1, chain gaurd tooth on the bottom snagged the chain( flat file fixed had to repair and sharpen chain) 2 slowest starting saw in the world still will not first pull start ever.

3 lots of vibration Positives strong saw runs 7 to 9 hours a day just cut, fill with fuel and bar oil and keep going. Notes I have 4 identical chains to keep me going all keep day then sharpen in the evening to run a full day in the morning.

I think this is a solid saw cuts all day only asks for fuel and bar oil.

My Dad got for me in the spring of 2020 when covid-19 hit. My Dad one day gave me a Stihl hat. When I asked him what was the hat for. All of a sudden that chainsaw was sitting in the back of my dad’s pickup with his Stihl MS 291.

I ran it under my dad’s supervision for a while. The chain on the MS 180 got dull and waiting to get it sharpen. I love my chainsaw. It’s my pride and joy. My first chainsaw was a electric chainsaw. That MS 180 has more power than the electric chainsaw.

Also my Stihl is easy to tighten the chain and take the sprocket cover off. Got also from Centennial Lube in Grace Idaho. It has now a new chain on it.
