I’m disabled with severe muscle and tendon tears in the left half of my back and two crushed discs, and thus in severe pain 24/7/365. Once one is surviving on disability, it’s impossible to afford most services of companies to do things for you anymore, so it now becomes things one has to do on their own.

One of those things was figuring out how to save on bills, like the electric bill, and a wood stove for the winter was a superb example. Once the money was saved up to get the stove and piping for it (and put up myself, which was really fun with my back!), now I needed wood.

There was no way I could afford to buy wood. So decided no matter the pain, I would have to cut and split my own. Living in the country made it easy to find trees that were down from storms – in peoples’ yards, or where I could get to them easily.

Many trees were already halfway seasoned. One tree in particular, a black walnut, was old and dead and hard as rock. I got the 455 Rancher because of the price and because it seemed to have good specs.

I’ve used it for almost two years and it runs good and gets the job done. Once in a while it may give a fart in summer time and give trouble starting, but not often. It’s not powerful, but I got the black walnut cut up in 18″ pieces (limbs that I didn’t have to split) pretty easily.

The trunk, having a 3′ diameter, was another creature. The 20″ bar made it a little hard to do, but the motor at least had just enough power to get as much as I could out of that trunk. I think I had to stop at about 2′ diameter which left about 35′ of trunk (I wish I’d had the money to have it taken to the sawmill and cut into long slabs so I could have made a really nice desk out of it.

I mean think of it, black walnut, a *beautiful* wood for furniture!). It’s a tough little chainsaw. It even got run over by my ’90 Chevy half ton truck and all it got were some rubber marks on the case and ran like nothing had happened to it.

It’s still not a *powerful* saw, so keep that in mind. It can do large trees *IF* one knows what they’re doing, but will take a while longer to do them. A sharp chain is an *extreme* must with this saw so that the engine doesn’t have to work so hard.

I’d recommend this chainsaw mainly for smaller stuff than I used it for. I always wished I’d gotten something *meant* for the things I was using/needing a chainsaw for. This saw was great at doing anything with trees that were 1′ diameter or smaller.

It’s easy to use, easy to start, easy to clean. It does have a little trouble after a while with the bar oil feeder. it starts to give a lot more than is needed and adjusting it doesn’t seem to help.

I never could figure out how to fix it, but it didn’t use it up so fast I needed to keep gallons and gallons around, just starts using a little more than is really necessary, that’s all. It’s a little heavy, for just a saw for mostly homeowners with small tree and shrub work to do, but since it takes a beating and keeps running, this is the ticket for those folks.

Overall, if you don’t plan to cut timber larger than 1′ in diameter, this is the saw to get, especially because the price is nice and deals can be found all over easily.

My 455 Rancher is currently with a dealer awaiting warranty service approval. Generally, I praise Husqvarna in quality, so I likely bought a rare defective item from Lowe’s. It’s to be noted, that Lowe’s and there employees proved thoroughly useless in assistance.

This 455 Rancher behaved oddly from the start with the brake handle being a bit vibratory. With perhaps no more than 20 hours actual run time on the chainsaw, while cutting a log, it seized and the cover plate along with the entire brake clutch assembly shot off and out into the woods.

Always wear PPE, less I might have lost an eye and some finger to shrapnel. The coil spring for the braking mechanism looked like a stretch slinky. The plastic mounting components were shredded. Again, I think this a fluke against Husqvarna’s usual quality and reliability.

Hopefully, there warranty and service department will prove above average and replace the unit.

I bought this saw as a replacement for a Husqvarna I had for over 25 years. That saw was a beast and and I cut many a tree with it. It was extremely durable and just kept on running. After 25 years it started giving me more trouble than it was worth so I bought this Rancher.

I can’t speak to the durability of this one yet as I’ve only had it for a few month and have only cut one large Cherry tree and some misc. debris across a 4 wheeler trail but it doesn’t seem to have the power that my old Husqvarna did? It cuts well but it seems like it struggles a bit more than my old one.

Also, after that one tree (it was a big one) and those few smaller downed trees, the chain was so dull it almost wouldn’t cut anymore. I’m happy enough with the saw and time will tell on how well it holds up but it just doesn’t seem to have the power of my old one and I’m not sure why the chain would get so dull so fast?.

I bought this chainsaw from the Saskatoon store in Confederation a month ago. Absolute worst purchase ever. This saw has zero power and stalls out every time. Changing the chain is near impossible a few guys at work tried and so far the fastest change took about an hour.

The lock always sticks on and its near impossible to cut anything when the chain wont spin. Ive owned a few chainsaws over the years and loved Poulan and Stihl brands. Good power in them, fast easy chain swaps and reliable.

Husqvarna is total junk nothing but problems right from day 1. Id avoid this brand like the plague nothing but headaches and agravation.

Chainsaw was in good condition with just a few minor cosmetic scuffs. This one needed the carb adjusted for best results. After adjusting the low jet and high jet along with the idle the saw ran like a champ.

I used a tachometer to help with carb adjustments. I suggest to know how to do this or have someone else who does so the saw runs as it should. Best to use fuel with no ethanol however if ethanol blended fuel is used a fuel stabilizer designed for ethanol will help keep the fuel from absorbing water which is hard on engines.

All in all a very good deal considering the reduced cost of $200 vs a new 455 Rancher.

First off, I used to be a professional lumberjack. I just bought a Husqvarna saw. Bought brand new jerry can for gas. Properly mixed 50:1 oil with premium gasoline. Saw died after 6 hours. Still under warranty.

Brand new saw. Have proof of all my purchases and Husqvarna just said I mixed fuel improperly w/o any proof. I said I have all the proof that I didn’t and they said doesn’t matter. Every time I reached out with more proof and evidence they gave me another run around and excuse.

Their machine malfunctioned after 6hrs and they won’t honor the warranty. It’s so frustrating because I didn’t do anything wrong. The dealer I called told me Husqvarna doesn’t honor their warranty anymore and that there is nothing I can do.

Buyer beware. I’ll be buying Stihl from now on as I’ve heard they honor their warranty.

I got this for my husband based on reviews both on the net and on YouTube. He has two other Husqvarna chainsaws for smaller work but he needed something for very large hardwoods that fell during two large storms.

We have 7 acres of land that are heavily wooded. I am a Stihl gal, but this purchase sold me on the Husqvarna product. It is easy to start. It was like a plug-and-play. It didn’t stall out ever, it is incredibly powerful and he is extremely happy with it.

I recommend going to Youtube and checking out what others have to say about this chainsaw, you will not be disappointed.

Purchased this chainsaw because it had a 24” bar. This saw will get the job done quick. As with any saw this size it’s a little heavier than most but it’s very well balanced and while using it I didn’t find that it mattered.

The saw has plenty of power and we have great luck with all of the husky saws we own. The 455 and above saws will do quick work if you’re clearing or doing storm cleanup. I prefer Husky over Stihl.

Hey, read all the reviews about this saw. I was a bit worried about battery longevity and ergonomics. Now, after using it extensively on two large, 50′ tall, downed Australian Pine trees, I find that it’s an excellent, well-made saw.

The saw cuts very fast (even on very dense wood). The saw is lighter than my (crappy) Husqvarna and better balanced. Cutting the trunks was very rapid even through the largest diameters that approached the length of the bar (14″).

One drawback (at least on the Aus. Pine) was that the chips were so fine they tended to build-up in the sprocket area and I found I had to clean that area after several cuts. I won’t pretend to tell you that you can cut all day on one battery charge, but I was able to cut both tree trunks into 2′ lengths before the battery showed near-depletion.

Charging was in the 20-40 minute range, though. I’ve used this saw for a couple days and charged the batteries twice (both times from a partially depleted state). Each time, I’ve been impressed by the short charge time.

This saw replaced a Husqvarna gas operated saw that took forever to cold-start. The Makita, however, starts immediately, cuts faster, is whisper quiet, does not vibrate or stink, there is no gas to mix.

and there are no tools to drag around. My saw doesn’t leak bar-oil either (as the Husqvarna did). It’s easier to mount the chain and easier to clean the drive sprocket area after use. It functions extremely well and is well-designed.

It’s also a great value when you look at the Stihl (12″ bar), which advertised as a $320 deal. What they don’t tell you is that it is sold without a battery or charger. ! The sales guy finally had to admit that when you get a full package (1-battery and a charger), the saw costs over $620.

Since putting the saw together I have some negative comments. Two different screws and no directions as to where to use them. The directions were slightly better than none, no where did it tell me what the black knob on top was for.

Internet search siz it is to regulate lub oil flow. Filled it with oil and most leaked out somewhere. A real grip is that nowhere is there a customer service number I can call. Perhaps if I get on the internet there is one? It is a decent product I think but could be a great product if there were some decent instructions and someone to call if needed.

Have only made one saw cut, worked fine.

While the Makita saw has a nice balance and cuts smoothly, the two batteries that shipped with my saw did not last a month. I charged them maybe five times and then they would not hold a charge. Given the high markup, you’re asked to pay for Makita quality, this should not happen.

Those considering a Makita should also look hard at the warranty. You’ll get a warranty that looks generous, but warranty terms say you’ll have to pay shipping should you need to get a warranty repair.

In my case, because my batteries died with less than a month’s service, Makita did cover shipping costs for me to send my batteries back to the Houston repair center. For their part, the repair center does not acknowledge receiving your repair shipment, nor has anyone indicated to me when replacement batteries might be forthcoming.

The Makita website is not at all customer-oriented.

Have only used this once to cut up a six inch branch that came crashing down in the yard. Bought this for exactly that kind of situation. My loppers do fine cutting up the smaller branches but when I get to the thick stuff, it just isn’t worth firing up my large gas powered chainsaw for a six inch branch and is too time consuming and tiring to mess with a bow saw by hand.

This did the trick just fine and I was done in about ten minutes cutting up the thick branches as well as some other larger pieces I had lying around. Went through a really hardwood locust tree like cutting butter.

Some folks have said these tend to leak oil. I’ll have to keep my eye out for that, but I just filled the bar chain reservoir with enough oil for the job at hand so there wasn’t much left in the saw when I was done.

Saw was easy to assemble and chain is easy to put on and adjust. I’m a fan and have several other WORX products. Haven’t come across one that is not a winner yet. BTW, only used about one third of the battery charge for my 10 minutes of cutting, so I was very satisfied.

Purchased this late Spring with pole attachment to trim tree limbs. This Summer my 38ft, 16in diameter Maple discovered a new source of nutrition & begin dipping into the sewer line. Not a good result in toilet flushing action.

The previous owners didn’t take that into consideration when planting the Maple next to the sewer line. I knew I needed a longer saw to tackle removing the Maple & deliberated on the cost of bigger saw, or hiring an arborist.

Procrastination & spending time reflecting on options I looked at my 10in saw & decided to give it a go. I spent 3 full days dismantling the limbs leaving an 18ft, 16in diameter trunk. Sizing it up I thought I would give it a try.

By making large notches around the perimeter I was able to eventually bring that sucker down. All done on 3 batteries. Honest! This success was not without its mishaps & problems. The chain made its reluctance at such a task by jumping off several times but no big deal.

Gave time for a welcomed rest & restoring the chain back to its bar, a simple fix, thanks to no requirement for tools. I now have a large pile of “logs” seasoning for next winter’s fireplace. I went on to bring down a couple 8in fir trees, a 9in flowering plumb & removed magnolia limbs up to a full 10in.

Indeed, the little saw that could & still is doing, on the original chain. I did learn that trying to use it as a shrub trimmer is a big mistake. You will spend more time resetting the chain on the bar than any trimming you’ll do.

It doesn’t like taking little bites, but then that’s what hedge trimmers are for. Keep it well oiled & sawdust cleaned out & feed it fully charged 20V & it won’t disappoint.

I was hesitating between the 445e, the 455 Rancher, and the 545 Mark II to clear some land for a food plot for deer hunting in the deep woods. The 455 Rancher is more powerful but weighs significantly more so I crossed that one out pretty quickly.

Working with a heavy chainsaw it not fun, unless you’re standing still and just cutting through a pile of stacked wood to make firewood. On the lighter side, the 445e and 545 Mark II are almost the same weight but the 545 Mark II has a more powerful engine, a magnesium casing, and a couple of other “prosumer” features, but it costs 45% more.

Knowing how good Husqvarna products are, I took a chance on the 445e as an all-rounder. I figured I could always return it and spend more on the 545 Mark II if I really hated it. Well, I was not disappointed.

The 445e is a beast. I felled and chopped up over 20 trees (mostly birch, maple, and spruce) in a single day with this chainsaw and it never hesitated. It went through the wood like a hot knife through butter.

I also used it to clear some trail, cut firewood, and clean up a campsite and it has handled everything I’ve thrown at it brilliantly. Out of the box, it started on the second pull, and it started on the first pull every single time since.

The choke is easy to work, the off switch is convenient, and the gas and oil caps are well-designed. It is light, easy and comfortable to handle, and it doesn’t vibrate too much. It also doesn’t leave you with the mouth-full-of-exhaust feeling at the end of the day.

I do not regret saving $350 and going with the 445e. I cannot imagine needing more chainsaw than this unless I was spending hours cutting hardwood for firewood multiple times a week and desperately needed to shave some time off that chore, or if I was felling giant trees that require a very long bar.

For everything else, the 445e is the way to go!.

I bought the Rancher 450 chainsaw in Dec-2021 and it worked great right out-of-the-box. Generally speaking, the weight is good, the low vibration is a plus, it has great cutting power, does well on gas and will start on 2 or 3 pulls when cold.

Now for the downside. In following the manual I kept the first use to <10mins and only used it on small limbs (4" at most) without any issues. For the second use I ran it ~20mins and on slightly larger limbs (6"-10"), again no issues.

By the third use I was cutting fallen tree trunks (up to 18″) for 15mins and the chain came off. Odd, but not a huge problem. However, when putting the chain back onto the bar I noticed that the sprocket at the tip of the bar was locked and would not spin.

After fiddling with it and applying oil it eventually freed. Before the fourth use I noticed that when manually moving the chain around the bar the sprocket would randomly lock. The chain would no longer go in the forward direction and backing it off in the opposite direction would free it.

I started it up, began cutting and within 10mins the chain once again came off. As well, the sprocket was locked and this time the drive links were damaged to the point where the chain no longer fit into the bar guide.

By the time I got it into the local dealer it was, of course, 6 days beyond the 90 day warranty for the bar. The dealer did offer to open a pre-approved claim with Husqvarna for the chain and it would take 1-2 business days to process.

Great, right? Well, after 2 weeks and making numerous calls to the dealer to check on the status I was eventually told they could not help me. It wasn’t that Husqvarna denied the claim, just that they could no longer help.

apparently submitting the claim was more of a big deal that I thought. Yes, I am just a weekend warrior type but this is not my first chainsaw. I have had others by another manufacturer (rhymes with “Mulan”) which were decent enough but needed replacing every 4-5yrs after moderate use.

I finally decided to spend the money and get a good one but now I’m not sure that I made the right choice. And a quick search online tells me that I am not the only person to have issues with the bar.

I process 10+ cords of firewood a season depending on how much I can get my grubby little hands on in addition to doing quite a bit of fire mitigation work. I have run a 562xp (and a Jred 2260 and 2252) pretty hard all year long at over 9,000ft of elevation for the past few years.

This saw has PLENTY of power to process the relatively small diameter lodge pole and Doug Fir I burn up here in the Rockies. Power to weight is awesome on all of these pro-grade husky saws and the 562 is no exception.

Very smooth to run all day. Starts up extremely easy, even at this elevation and the autotune avoids having to fiddle fk with a carb, not that I’m opposed to that, it just saves time. And they run pretty hard all day.

The autotune has worked great on all three saws with exception of the hotstart issues I had on a 550xp Mk1. My only complaint is that Husqvarna SHOULD RELEASE THE AT DIAGNOSTIC TOOL OUTSIDE OF THE DEALERSHIP NETWORK.

It’s absolute garbage that I can’t run diagnostics a carb or update firmware at home. Not a unique problem though, Stihl does the same nonsense with M-tronic.

This little chainsaw is essential if you have a number of trees to clear. The Ash bore beetle has decimated our area and every house has a number of dead or dying trees on their property. My other chainsaw is a 18in Husqvarna monster which is great for felling larger trees, but after a day of swinging that around, I could barely lift my arms.

Bought this model from HD since I have a bunch of Dewalt tools/batteries already and it made a world of difference. It was so light that it felt fake compared to my other one. But what a little power house! It easily ripped through everything except the largest trunks I had.

It ran through anything under 18in easily; little slower than my Husq, but not a bad trade off considering how light and quiet it is and almost no vibration. Used the gas chainsaw to drop the tree and for the trunk, but the rest of the time it was all the Dewalt.

It’s like woods/irons in golf. you use the woods(driver) only a couple of time, but you use your irons way more! Couple of things to note – you should have extra batteries on hand and more bar/chain oil than you think.

I found that I needed to refill bar oil more frequently (even before the 4amp battery needed swapping out). Also no tools needed to adjust the chain tension! It really is a well thought out piece of equipment.

I am throughly impressed. Also looking forward to being able to use it next year without the maintenance needed for my gas one! I have since lent it out to some of the neighbors and they all could not believe how good it was.

Went with the 12″ over the 16″ to cut brush since I already have a 16″ and 18″ gas saws. 12″ with battery is 10. 2 lbs and the 16″ with battery is 14. 4 lbs. 4 lbs doesn’t seem like much but cutting brush at a sideway movement all day it makes a huge difference.

Plus the extra length often goes into the dirt when trying to cut brush off at the ground. Used mostly on buckthorn, locust, honeysuckles, and a few small hickories so far. The lightness is nice that I’m able to cut most of the day without getting sore, where maneuvering a gas saw hurts my forearms after about 4 hours.

Using the gas saw for brush bigger than about 6″ and the electric for smaller I was able to cut all day on one battery charge Negatives, the bar seems a bit cheap, if you try to cut brush in the outermost 6″ of the bar it vibrates and doesn’t cut very well.

This can be overcome by keeping the wood being cut tight to the saw, but then why buy a 12″ saw if only 8″ of it is really usable. Even a sharp chain doesn’t pull the saw into the wood very well. A lot more pushing is needed than my gas saw or competitive battery saws.

Torque is decent, the chain does stop under minimal torque. Ultimately it’s the best bang for the buck. I’ve used my Uncle’s Milwaukee battery chainsaw while the most powerful and cuts better, at 17.

3 lbs it is as heavy as my gas saw so no advantage in how long I can use it. I’ve used my dads Stihl, which I feel is the absolute best battery operated saw, balanced with the lightest weight. It has the highest price but it would be worth it if the batteries were compatible with either the Milwaukee or Dewalt tool set.

I purchased this newer version 18 inch Dewalt chainsaw because I was unable to get the 20 inch Dewalt saw DCCS672B I have the 16 inch Dewalt chainsaw DCCS670. I also purchased the new 15 AH Dewalt Battery DCB615.

Dewalt says the new improved 18 inch saw has almost twice the power than other saws. My findings say other wise. I was cutting up a tree that came down to recent storm. It was about a 23 inch hickory still green.

The new 18 inch saw kept shutting off I’m like every 3 to 5 seconds. I had to trigger the saw to reset it. It drained the 15 AH battery in just 1 and a half cuts. So I picked up my 16 inch DCCS670 saw and thought what will you do with just a 6 AH Battery.

I was more than twice as fast as the bigger saw, it did not shut down a single time, it was also completed 7 full cuts through the same log. To be honest I wanted to see what the 16 inch saw would do with the a fully charged 15 AH Battery.

It took about an hour with the Dewalt quick charger to charge the 15 AH Battery. I then proceeded sawing with the smaller saw and the 15AH Battery. I have to say cut after cut it performed circles around the much bigger saw.

I’m going to contact Dewalt to see about getting a replacement for the 18 inch saw. There is no logical explanation as to why the smaller saw out performs the newer bigger saw. Other than it must be defective.

I also want to mention I purchase both saws at the same time from two different company’s. So both saws were my first experience using a battery powered chainsaw. I’m not a heave logger. I just use them around the farm and cut my winter supply of firewood.

If the 16 inch DCCS670 holds up I will never own another gas powered chainsaw. I also want to mention I have been a home builder and remodeler for 30 years. I have almost every 20 volt tool Dewalt makes some are 18 volt with 20 volt battery adapters but they still work great and full my purpose.

I have purchased the newer version of the 18 volt tools in the 20 volt version but why start on them when the 18 volts still perform like they did when they were new. The DCCS672B saw as of now if a new saw does not perform any better I would recommend passing on the bigger saw.

I thought an electric chainsaw would be a good addition to use with my woodchipper since you need to cut back branches before feeding it in the chipper. Put oil in the saw with a new battery. When I went to use it the trigger switch did not work every time and when it did run would intermittently cut out while sawing.

I was surprised how noisy the saw was when it ran. Besides the faulty switch I found out the biggest flaw with most electric chainsaws is the actual chain speed. It’s less than half the speed of most gas saws.

When cutting brush this tends to snag the branches rather than cut. You definitely need to hang on tight since the saw bucks around. Larger diameter pieces work better since there are more chain cutters in contact with the wood.

I went back to my gas top handle saw and couldn’t believe how much better – and safer it cut. Other problem I encountered after my first attempt is the oil leaking from the fill port (well known issue).

Guess they just don’t have any experience with sealing fluids. Took it back for a refund. An electric saw in this volt/price range may have its place but not in my garage.

I came here looking for solutions to my chainsaw that was great until it died. Did not get much use out of it before it stopped working. Tricky trigger button (possible source of problem) seemed to have intermittent issue when new.

Unit would start up and then stop. Then it would work fine – used it for a few home projects. Put it away for a year, brought it out and it worked until it just died. It is just out of warranty, so I don’t know what to do – repair costs nearly as much as a new one, and concerns with reliability (based on the numerous complaints here) make me wonder if there is a defect.

Is there a newer series since 2019 where any known defects have been resolved? Would buy again if there was some certainty. The chainsaw was otherwise well balanced, easy to use, and worked great when it worked.

I used it maybe 3-4 days in 3 years, and would be using it this weekend if it still worked.

The chainsaw arrived promptly minimal scratches good appearance and well packaged. I have owned operated worked/sharpened various saws as a 2+ acre homeowner. Never had one this big and powerful. I immediately inspected assembled the 460 and found it to be a 2019 model which at first alarmed me.

Upon further inspection found minimal wear on drive and clutch no slop ,new 24″bar n chain and very clean appearance. Filled with fuel and bar chain oil-would run (3rd pull) but was slow to respond idle rough.

Popped open the top cover and found clean used air cleaner with a small crack on one of the corners pulled plug found it fouled oily. Very good compression -couldn’t keep finger on sparkplug hole when cranking later checked found 120#s+.

Replaced plug with my Poulan 16″ spare fired right up 2nd pull ran strong trigger pull gives a pistol like braaapp cut some 15inch mesquite like they were butter-Cadillac Style! Chain oiling system adjusted down one click.

My take on this saw is buy it if you have some mechanical skills (evidently if you are buying such a serious saw) want quality but not so pricey top of the line saw. Cannot beat the price for a USED Husky saw and they promptly sent the new air cleaner and spark plug -very satisfied -EC.

I picked up the first 440 saw this past Sunday with a gallon of the husqvarna premix (50:1) and after filling up the gas tank and chain oil reservoir, and following the cold start instructions precisely, the saw simply refused to start.

After numerous attempts, which included inspecting the spark plug gap and testing for visual spark, the results were the same. Next I tried draining the fuel path (lines, bulbs, reservoir) and using a different fuel source (precisely 1.

00 gallon of 87 fuel mixed w/ 50:1 oil included mixture). I returned it to the store and got another brand new 440, went through the same setup steps, except this time I used the fuel mix I had prepared, and same results.

Regardless of how many pulls I did (with choke on) this new one also refused to start. While also inspecting the plug there was some small traces of burn residual which I would suspect was from testing the engine during the manufacturing process.

In any case, considering that both units came from the same store, I’m pretty sure both units probably also rolled off the assembly line together. In any case it’s a disappointing experience, and a let down to go through the effort and still end up with the same failed results.

So to start off Ive only had this saw for a year after upgrading from a older ms 250 Amazing saw starts great, cuts great but lacks by having small felling dogs. I wish I bought a bigger saw because with dropping trees the bigger trees are thought to cut.

But I’m not saying this to downplay the saw because overall this saw is amazing. Lightweight, cuts great, good price for a 18inch bar imo. Highly recommend this saw I loved my old Stihl and I continue to enjoy their products didn’t get the 5 star from me because of the felling dogs being outrageously small and I feel as thought the saw cakes up with saw dust so fast that I just clean it at the end of my day when I sharpen my chain.

I reassembled my MS230 Stihl chainsaw, so its difficult for me to show a picture of the many differences and the quality of OEM and this kit I carb kit I purchased, but here are just a few of my complaints that make this kit unusable for MS230 Stihls: 1.

The carb itself would not fit over the two studs–the holes were not cast/drilled (machined) properly, so the carb would not slide down to the gasket. It would only slide about 2/3 of the way down before it got stuck as the holes were NOT parallel.

2. The carb did NOT have a inlet for the fuel primer bulb to prime the carb. The MS230 carb MUST have a tube on the carb to connect it to the primer hose outlet. 3. The air filter bracket also would not slide over the two mounting studs.

The holes were again not parallel. 4. And the air filter was made of cheap quality filter material that buckled when I tried to install on the air filter bracket. I’ve attached a photo of the very finely meshed, yellow filter that is standard OEM from Stihl.

This OEM one looks nothing like the open mesh white filter in the kit. It was also to large to fit neatly into the bracket, this caused a air entrance that was big enough for a fly to enter the card! See photo # 2 for a photo of the OEM filter.

5. The long, rubber gas line that goes from the gastank to the carb has a rubber grommet in the center that fits snugly into the molded hole in the plastic tank. However, the gas line included in this kit has a grommet that is to LARGE in diameter and it will not fit into the hole.

I tried for an HOUR to force it into the smaller hole–it would not fit. So, I purchased a NEW Stihl gas line and it easily fit in the hole. See photo # 1. its the fuel line on the left side of the photo.

6. The Oil filter is of a smaller design that the OEM one, so it would not fit. Things that DID fit: 1. The carb gasket 2. The fuel filter 3. Sparkplug So, the kit is worthless to repair a STIHL MS230.

Perhaps it works on newer STIHLs, but it is not compatible or machined properly to fit an MS230. Sincerely.

Bought MS 250 last summer. Has been a great saw, starts every time. I follow the instructions provided by small engine staff at time of purchase. I start on full chock and it usually “pop” on the fourth pull.

I go to fast idle, one position up, and its starts on the first pull. Pulling the trigger puts it in run position. I have heard that some people keep pulling on full choke until it starts. This can flood the saw requiring cleaning the plug to get it to start.

DON’T KEEP PULLING ON FULL CHOKE! If it does not start go to fast idle and try pulling it 2-3 times. If that doesn’t work go back to full choke for 1-2 pulls and then back to fast idle. If it does not start check to see if the spark plug is covered in fuel or dry.

If it is dry the saw probably needs to be looked at by a trained technician, it is not getting gas.

I bought this to replace an old petrol chainsaw (non-Stihl) that was a nightmare to start and run. I need a chainsaw for small jobs in my garden e. g. chopping up branches that regularly fall off my silky oak, sawing branches in my hedges.

This new chainsaw is a revelation. So easy to use. Just grab and go. No more petrol/oil to worry about and challenges in trying to get it started. I totally recommend it.

My first move to battery power and this saw exceeded my expectations. It zipped through logs up to 12″ with plenty of power and the AP 300 S battery still had charge to go after 30 minutes continuous work.

I thought this saw would compliment my 16″ petrol saw. It virtually replaces it. I also replaced my 25yr old Stihl FS 75 line trimmer (which is still working great) with the FSA 86 R that shares the same battery as the saw.

Does a great job on the edges of my 4000m property and no need to use ear muffs with either machine. Love my Stihl equipment. Their reliability and lifespan are amazing.

STIHL Quality is evident throughout the product. Limitations of Power and length of chain bar limit usage to moderate sizes of timber to be cut. Entirely suitable to a large garden with abundant trees needing regular pruning / trimming.

Light weight is an enormous advantage as is easy control of start and stop mechanism. Highly recommended.
