20 Best Chair For Sewing (2022 Updated)

Everything about this chair is a lie. Just to make an observation about the basic quality: the back was crooked, cocked to the left by about 2 inches, from the factory and not adjustable. Otherwise: NOT tiltable, at least not in any sense that any chair I’ve owned in the last 30 years meant it.

The back tilts, not the chair which, as anyone can tell you, is reclining, not tilting — and which is utterly useless: how often do you need to recline at your desk? Tilt was one of my main reasons I bought this chair.

NOT truly a mesh seat, only partially mesh: there’s a hard cushion underneath that cuts right across your thighs — I had red marks after 10 minutes — out of the box! This is really deceiving, especially since you cannot tilt the chair in a way that might mitigate the discomfort.

A year of that mesh relaxing will turn this chair into a real torture device. And, just for the record, NOT easy to assemble. I have assembled dozens of pieces of IKEA furniture, including several full kitchens, and this chair was one of the most difficult pieces of furniture I have ever wrestled with.

Imagine my joy, then, at disassembling it for return. And on that topic, the claim that this chair is easily returned and returnable to a store is a complete lie. It will end up taking me hours to return, haggling with chat, repackaging, and hauling it off to a distant FedEx facility.

I’ve been using the Hyken chair for around a year now, and it has been the best chair I’ve ever owned. COMFORT – I’m a 5′ 8″, 165lb male, and this chair fits and holds me well. If you are taller, the headrest will be an issue for you; I just snuck under the point where it would poke me in the shoulders.

I would highly recommend the chair as a comfortable option for everyday use. I generally use the chair for at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week; sometimes extending that time with evening gaming sessions.

Even at the comfort level it provides, I would still recommend stretching every hour or two to avoid cramps. The armrests have firm padding that supports the arms well, but I removed them after a few months to make playing guitar easier while seated.

The ability to lock and unlock the chair lean is a nice feature and I’ve found myself just reclining in the furthest notch to relax at times. DURABILITY – After 1 year of use, all components are still fully functional.

That said, the thick foam strip at the front of the seat does have a tear in it from where it comes into contact with the structure of the seat while under compression; however, this does not affect comfort or usability and is not noticeable unless you look at the chair from underneath.

The armrests also developed a slight break in the shell at the rear from putting pressure on them when adjusting myself in the seat. QUALITY/VALUE – I would say the build quality of this chair matches the price you pay for it.

I have a feeling this chair will last me at least a few more years. I’ve never owned a mesh chair before this, so I’m not positive about the material’s long-term durability. The only part that doesn’t seem very solid is the back lumbar support.

It’s made to slide up and down but always seems to get pushed down to the lowest setting. This isn’t a huge deal, but I would like to see this made more solid in future builds. CONCLUSION – I’d highly recommend this chair for everyday use, especially if you work a desk job.

Your comfort and health are important, and this chair definitely helps support those aspects.

The construction and quality is pretty solid for the price point. For me, the decline rear of the seat pulls me into the decline and creates a posterior tilt for my pelvis. The lumbar support is too narrow for me and needs a more gradual change like the Union & Scale™ Essentials Mesh Back Fabric Task Chair.

It also should have more adjustable range. The problem with my chair’s lumbar support is that it does not stay in place. I will adjust the lumbar support to a comfortable height and a little while later it will slide back down.

The head support could use more adjusting options such as height. It currently supports the base of my skull and not back of my head. Leaning back in the chair is quite nice and the arms are easy to adjust in height.

My biggest concern is the forced posterior tilt. If all these issues were addressed, this would be an amazing chair.

I’ve sat in a Steelcase chair at my office since 2015. It’s been my favorite chair thanks to it’s comfort, adjustability, and how well it’s held in the 7 years I’ve been sitting in it. It’s probably most similar to the Series 2 now, but so far besides a slightly smaller and more plasticky frame the Series 1 seems to hit all the same points.

I can’t say how long this particular chair will last, but if my experience with my other chair is any indication I won’t be needing to buy a desk chair for several years. Assembling the chair was simple, though I found no instructions in my box.

It comes in 4 pieces that all snaps and slides together with no need for tools. I definitely could have figured out the assembly without looking it up, but better safe than sorry. The construction is mostly plastic, but it’s rock solid.

Nothing creaks or feels loose. I like the look of the chair; it’s very modern and bright, but it’s a bold look that tends to clash with anything that doesn’t match it. A little bit about me, I’m 6′ 3″ and about 260 lbs.

So I’m a bigger guy. I found the chair to be slightly small for me, but I was able to get it adjusted in a comfortable position. In addition to the standard up/down the seat can be adjusted in and out and the armrests are fully adjustable.

There’s also an adjustable lumbar support. The lumbar support adjustment I did find a little difficult to get into position and it was harder than I’d have liked it to be to make incremental adjustments, but all of the other adjustment mechanisms were very easy to work with.

The chair can lock to an upright position or recline, though the tension for the recline is fixed at 2 different levels. The seat is plenty big enough for me and the back goes about up to the bottom of my shoulder blades.

I think I would benefit from a headrest on the back, but I felt supported enough. The armrests are just a tad small for my liking, but they’re still comfortable. The casters are made for carpet and that’s what my chair currently resides on and I’ve had no problems rolling in and out of my desk.

The upholstery is polyester and plenty soft, though out of the box I didn’t enjoy the feel of it against bare skin. I think this is something that will improve over time though as I break it in. The chair back is a thick mesh material with plenty of support behind it.

Overall I’m very happy with this chair. I think with any chair the best way to know if you’re going to be happy with it is going to be to find a way to sit in it first. I do think this particular series is probably better suited to smaller frames and it may not be the best option for a full 40-hour week, but if you’re looking for something that’s comfortable and is going to hold up for a long time I think it’s definitely one to consider.

First off, no one paid me for this review! I chose to spend a little more for quality and customer Service. The fact that Laura offers paid return shipping and a 60 day trial was my first reason to choose this chair and company.

It was shipped REALLY fast! Great communication through the entire process. Was packaged well and the quality of the chair, frame, and adjustable gas piston was noticeable right out of the box. Really easy to put together.

Didn’t even need to look at the instructions. I kept the box just because I knew I had a 60 day trial. But after only 3 days, I know this chair is staying in my house. I love the fact that the arms are removable if I chose to use without.

The arms are sleek and placed at a great position and height. I can even play guitar in this chair without banging the back of the instrument, and again I can quickly remove one or both arms for this specific purpose if I needed too.

I understand how someone could maybe want a little padding on the arms but, I don’t find this being a problem at all. They are smooth and shaped well so I don’t find any issue without padding. Honestly, I think the chair is priced fairly considering the quality of materials, design, and comfort.

So many other office chairs out there priced higher with less desirable design and quality. I know for a fact that saving a little bit more money going through Wayfair or Amazon will only give you what you pay for, as far as quality is concerned! I could go on and on.

I waited to review this until I used it for a couple months. I’ve been working from home for two years. In that time, I used a wooden kitchen chair with cushion, a stylish cushioned dining chair, an ergonomic chair purchased from and returned to Amazon.

This was my final hope. I had severe back pain and after a week and a half of using this chair, my back finally felt relief. It’s comfortable enough to withstand my 8-5 day job. And it’s super stylish! I’m happy with my purchase!.

I appreciate the color accuracy of the website – the brown option coordinates so well with my hardwood floor and Room and Board desk. I upgraded to the hardwood floor casters; they’re so smooth and quiet.

Most important to me was that the chair was comfortable. Being short-waisted, I needed a few more inches in the the chair height. something I have to deal with with every office chair. Stephan and Zach in the service group were amazing, responding so quickly to my questions about options for chair height.

They sent me a taller gas lift as soon as I measured out if it would work with my desk, and proactively sent instructions on how to remove the original gas lift. The chair works perfectly now. I wish all companies had service like this!.

love, Love, LOVE this chair. I am only 5′ tall and had a very hard time finding a chair I could sit comfortably in while sewing. Was using a hydraulic stool that had no back. It worked fine but did not give me the lumbar support I really needed.

My son convinced me to order it for an early Christmas gift. so glad he did. The back is low enough that it fits perfectly into the lumbar portion of my back and the seat is short enough that I can sit comfortably with my feet on the floor, but still high enough to reach the table and have proper posture.

The seat lets me sit flat and I do not have to worry about sliding off of it. So glad he talked me into it.

This chair is so comfortable. I am very happy to finally have the chair with adaptable height and a very comfortable back. I prefer a chair without arms. And, don’t forget how fun this fabric is. The shipping was very quick, and the chair was easy to assemble.

Had an assembly problem with bolt/washer/nut application to chair back. Nut seemed a bit small for the bolt. Have not yet been able to tighten that up so will visit local hardware store to see if they have a solution.

Otherwise, I like what I see. More later.

I think my review title pretty much sums it up. A very expensive chair. I only pulled the trigger on the purchase for three main reasons; (i) spending significant time in the chair working from home during the COVID pandemic, (ii) the promotional offer just before Christmas which meant I got 20% off and (iii) being able to spread the cost over 12 months on finance.

Ordinarily, I would not review a product like this unless I’ve got significant use out of it. However, this chair replaced a 15-year-old one at a much cheaper price point, which was showing its age. The previous chair was steel with chrome finish and mesh seat and mesh back with pvc padded leather on the mesh seat and backrest.

There is a reason I have described my previous chair. That is because when you receive this chair you may notice the difference in weight. Before the purchase, I did peruse the considerable YouTube videos out there and also try the chair in store.

The weight may not be a deciding factor but if you use the chair on carpet, rather than a smoother surface, like me you may find that the chair glides much easier. Having watched many videos, my understanding is that some plastic components have been used in this chair, i.

e. the re-mastered version of the Classic. There are those that think that this has been a bit of a downgrade in quality. It does feel plasticky compared with my previous chair but only time will tell with respect to the quality and longevity.

Other things that I dislike about the chair are that it is very much a task-based bit of furniture, i. e. designed for long periods of time at the desk, sitting upright. This could in itself be taken as something positive.

Apparently, this is the reason that some claim that is does not come with a headrest. However, at 6’1″ tall (Size B chair), I really notice the absence of a headrest should I wish to lean back in the chair.

A separate headrest can be bought but not one manufactured by HM, and not insignificant cost. Another thing I dislike about the chair is the inability to lock the tilt if you have leaned back into it.

Something I could do with my previous desk chair. The armrests being fully adjustable are a great feature and something I think is better than on my previous chair that had fixed armrest. They are extremely comfortable, height adjustable as you’d expect but can also be pulled out both in front of you and sideways.

The sideways adjustability is great, not something I’ve had on any other office chair. I found the back support from the “PostureFit” to be very good. As an iconic chair, the polished chrome version does look very smart and slick in the home if aesthetics are important to you.

The lack of headrest and not being able to lock the tilt are not deal breakers, just things that others should be aware of when spending this amount of money. I would strongly recommend trying out the chair in store before you purchase if at all possible.

I do spend the best part of about 10 hours a day in the seat, obviously not continuous, and have no problems with comfort or pains thereof, which I was having with my old chair.

BEWARE – THERE IS NO WAY TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT OF THE LUMABR SUPPORT ON THIS CHAIR – so, if your height and or torso isn’t the exact size this chair was designed for, the lumbar support will hit your back in the wrong place, making the chair uncomfortable and useless.

I have dreamed of owning a Herman Miller Aeron chair for a long time. My work has shifted to more computer and desk time. For my 50th birthday, I took the plunge and excitedly spent more on a chair than I could really afford.

My thinking was, this chair will last a lifetime and sitting comfortably and taking care of my body seemed like a good investment in me :). The chair came a few weeks earlier than the estimated delivery time, and my work/travel schedule prevented me from really giving it a try for the first month.

I noticed it was uncomfortable and the lumbar support wasn’t exactly right but the video I watched before buying it clearly shows the lumbar support as being fully adjustable so I didn’t worry about it.

When I was finally able to use the chair, it didn’t feel quite right, and I couldn’t figure out how to adjust the lumbar support. I wasn’t really concerned as the chair has the reputation for being fully adjustable and Herman Miller has an incredible reputation.

I re-watched the video on the Herman Miller website that shows the full adjustable lumbar support and began trying to adjust the chair. In the first section of the film it show how to increase or decrease the lumbar support anomy chair was able to do that.

HOWEVER, it the next part showing how to adjust the height of the lumbar support, it was suddenly showing the back of a different (older) model of the chair that does adjust. I called customer service to learn that the chair I spent nearly 1,700 for DOES NOT have an adjustment for the height of the lumbar support.

Further, because it took me two months to figure that out, my chair is beyond the return date – so I am stuck with an expensive chair that does not do what the website claims it does. Share on you, Herman Miller for making a chair that claims adjust to fit everyone but does not.

I know nearly everyone (Including myself) find the price of the Herman Miller Aeron to be completely insane when first looking at it. I had been aware of the chair for many years before finally deciding to purchase it at the start of this year, with the price being the only thing keeping me from buying one sooner.

I think I should first start with the cons, as whenever you pay this much of a premium for a chair, you will automatically expect it to be good, and want to find every reason to avoid buying it. Con #1 is the fact the chair gets very dirty very quickly.

Since the chair is made of a mesh material, the seat pan and backrest will act (and I will do my best at describing this) in many ways like a cheese grater. Shuffling from side to side will lead to small fibers of your clothing being torn off by the small holes in the mesh.

While this is nowhere near enough to actually damage your clothing, you will find that after a week, the area beneath the chair will be completely caked in dust. This may be a pedantic point, however it is something you should be aware of, especially if you are very sensitive to dust.

While I am not such a person, I am very sensitive to needing to vacuum my floor every few days for the sole purpose of getting rid of half a kilogram of shedded shorts and t shirts. Con#2 You must sit perfectly.

To give some background info on this chair, it was designed in the early-mid 1990s for office workers to sit in for 8 hours a day. Back then, the idea of sitting at a desk for “entertainment” was not really on the cards.

You sat in an office chair because you were working on your computer. As such, the chair was designed so that the person using it would not get tired or fatigued by sitting in a perfect/correct posture for 8 hours a day.

These days, it is far more common to watch films, TV shows, play videogames or generally relax while using a computer for leisure purposes. This means it is far more common today to sit in a more relaxed position in an office chair, either with your legs up, or reclined very far back.

However this is not really what the chair was designed for, and with it being as much an art piece as a chair, Herman Miller are somewhat restricted in being able to change the design to accomodate for the changing ways in which we use computers.

This means that unless you use the Aeron with perfect posture all the time (sitting with your lower back against the backrest, arms at 90 degrees and both feet flat on the floor), the chair is actually uncomfortable.

The chair is only as ergonomic and comfortable as you are willing to make it. If you sit exactly as it is intended, then you will have no issues, but if you deviate from this even slightly, the chair becomes more of a torture chamber.

If you were to sit cross legged on the chair, your ankles would be pressing up against hard plastic. If you try and slouch forward, you are sitting with pretty much no support for your back or bottom.

What I am saying is, unless you use the chair perfectly, it is not going to be very comfortable. However, if you do use it correctly, it is the most comfortable chair out there. As for the good aspects, there really are too many to mention.

Complete customizability of nearly every aspect means you can find the exact settings that are correct for you. The mesh design means you never get overheated while using it, and everything has a premium feel to it with no squeaks, rattles or clicks.

The 12 year Herman Miller warranty will also mean you wont need to go chair shopping for at least another decade.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. I didn’t know I was going to have to totally assemble the chair. Directions were not very clear. It didn’t specify which screws went where so we winged it.

Also the back support was confusing as to which way it went together. It took four of us working to get it straight. Other than that, the chair is great. Just need someone that knows how to write directions and labeling of the screws.

I write SOP’s but this was ridiculous.

I have had this chair for over 5 years. Have a thick plastic liner to protect from wear on the wood flooring. About a month ago, I noticed that the height adjustment would only hold for one session. To replace the chair was $200.

I looked on Youtube and found out how to replace the gas cylinder. Cost me about $13 and a half hour dismantling and replacing the old cylinder with the new one. I am a handy man, so I was able to get the right size cylinder after an online search, remove the old tightly fitting cylinder and reassemble.

Helpful to use a 14″ pipe wrench with a metal tube over the handle to get the needed leverage to loosen the cylinder from the base and a mallet/hammer with a block of wood to persuade the fittings to loosen.

I did have to remove the seat to get at everything. A second set of hands would have been helpful!.

These are first impressions. Ordering: Ordering online was easy and problem free. Delivery: I received the chair the day after ordering – free shipping. Yeah, Zoro! Customer Service: I did not have to call customer service during the ordering, delivery or assembly processes.

Assembly: The assembly instructions are minimal and I made one mistake in assembling the back that required taking the screws out and redoing them. In reading reviews of the chair on another site I learned that some were having problems with access to one of the tilt mechanism screws.

A couple other reviewers pointed out that the solution to this problem is to slide the seat forward on the mechanism. Access is easy after that. Full assembly took about 20 to 30 minutes. Comfort: I am 6’6″ and about 225 pounds, so I need a chair with good height and depth.

This chair fits me well with the seat at near maximum height, the arms at maximum height and the seat as far forward as possible. The back reaches to about 4 inches below the top of my shoulders. There is no head rest but I doubt that it would reach high enough anyway.

The curve of the back hits me in the right spot if I sit correctly. The seat is deep enough for my long legs, firm and comfortable so far, though I’ve only been sitting in it for an hour. Adjustability: The chair has a lot of adjustments for its price: seat height, depth and angle; arm height, width and depth; back tilt with lock and tension adjustment.

There are no lumbar or back height adjustments. Quality: This is not a $1000 chair so you should not expect top end fit and finish. The seat rocks just a little bit on its post and the tops of the arms are a little loose.

The plastic shrouds (non-essential parts) are flimsy. I can’t say anything about durability yet. Overall: For the price, excellent.

IšverstiShow in original languageEver since pandemic started, I was on a look for a good quality office chair that I could use at home AND don’t burn a hole in my pocket. Finally, I think that I found it when I click purchase button on this.

A few good things about this chair: 1. Easy to assemble. All tools/parts/manual are well prepared. And it even came with a pair of white cotton gloves which is surprisingly helpful to enhance the grip and meanwhile to prevent my hands from getting dirty.

And it is totally breathable i. e. not making my hands sweaty like rubber gloves. This finer detail doesn’t enhance the quality of this chair, but it makes the assembly job a breeze and it does show the manufacturer paid special attention.

2. Solid construction. This chair gives you a very sturdy feeling with a metal/chrome base and strong seat/back support. The moment that I first sit on it, I could totally feel the differences from other generic official chairs.

And I would say it is quite on-par with all those ultra expensive name brands (such as HM. ) at triple or quadruple of the price. 3. Adjustable. The best and my most favorite part of this chair is its adjustability.

Following the best office ergonomic guide that I could find on the Internet, I could raise/lower the seat to fit my height perfectly. The back support could be tightened (if I need sit straight up for an intensive writing session) or loosened (if I’m in hour-long online class or conference, so that I can lean back more).

4. Neck support. Last but definitely not the least, the neck support of chair is a super comfortable add-on. None of my previous chairs (even those expensive ones from office) can match with this. It fits perfectly with the contour of my neck with all the adjust-abilities that I need (up and down, tilted to the front and back) One small shortcoming of this chair, that I have to mention, is the dynamic arm/elbow support, like some other reviewers had mentioned.

If it could be made to move dynamically in all 3D dimensions, i. e. , not just up and down, or front and back, but also in and out as needed, then it would be 100% perfect. However, since I could adjust the width of arm/elbow support by unscrewing it from the bottom of the seat, I won’t deduct a star from such an excellent chair at such a reasonable price (considering the pandemic inflation!!!).

Additional pros: rolls quietly quality mesh comfortable seat easy adjustment for recline force arm support up/down adjustment I really wanted to give this chair 5 stars but there were a couple things I expected to be better.

The recline does not “lock” in place, but rather you can set a maximum recline limit. I would have preferred to be able to lock the back in place. When I recline, I notice very slight *creaking* noises coming from the back part that is holding the mesh part.

Although this is not a big deal, I guess I expected not to hear noises from my chair at this price. With all that said, this chair is easily 4. 5 starts for the value, design and quality. If you are looking for an affordable alternative of a SIHOO chair, this is the one.

This chair is perfection. This Oline ergo professional office chair rocks my home/office. I’ve had issues with the previous chairs I purchased and this one just comes complete all small defects such as leather warping off and the lowering and raising mechanics all get stuck and stop pumping.

With its great durability this tops off all chairs combined. Happy customer!.

IšverstiShow in original languageI needed a new chair for my home office and rapidly came to the realization that there is a lot of inferior merchandise that is worth avoiding. However, when I saw the Steelcase Series 1 ergonomic task chair I was immediately very interested.

The Steelcase company name is immediately recognizable. Steelcase has been manufacturing office furniture since 1912. The Steelcase name has always been associated with high quality, very durable office furniture.

In fact, Steelcase has been an innovator in office furniture systems for decades. Shortly after the end of World War II, Steelcase Series 15 desks and Steelcase office chairs became ubiquitous in corporate and government offices throughout America.

Those Steelcase desks and chairs were built like tanks, and I have firsthand knowledge of how much hard use, wear and tear and abuse they endured without failing. It genuinely seemed that they would last forever.

Steelcase chairs quite literally would “take a beating, and keep on seating”. As soon as my new Steelcase Series 1 chair was delivered, I knew that Steelcase chairs still can take a beating, and keep on seating.

The carrier that delivered my chair (not the one with the brown trucks) clearly did their level best to inflict as much damage as they could to the carton. The box was clearly mishandled and abused, and the bottom few inches of the carton were also saturated with water.

Due to the rough handling, and likely being dropped more than once, the contents of the carton were significantly displaced from how they were packed prior to shipping. My new Steelcase Series 1 chair had taken its first (and hopefully last) beating, but had no damage other than a couple of scratches on an armrest.

The Series 1 chair requires minimal assembly time or effort. It arrives as four modular sub-assemblies. The heavy duty, five leg base has the casters preinstalled. The plastic is very thick-walled, and is reinforced with internal webs.

The Series 1 chair may be ordered with either 2 ½” “soft”, dual-wheel, roll control casters for hard surface floors like tile, wood plank or chair mats, or “hard” casters for carpeted floors. The second component is the pneumatic cylinder which is simply inserted into the base.

The next module is the preassembled chair frame, which includes the back and armrests, as well as the base for the seat cushion. That module is simply set on the pneumatic cylinder. Finally, the cloth upholstered seat cushion is slid onto the base until it clicks into place and assembly is complete.

The entire process entails only three simple assembly steps which require about three minutes, and involve no tools. This extremely quick and simple assembly process is illustrated on an assembly instruction sheet included with the chair, and is also demonstrated in a video on the Steelcase website.

Once fully assembled, it is time to “take a seat” and adjust the chair to your own preferences. The Series 1 chair has a 3D Microknit polyester mesh fabric back which allows air to flow freely. I like the mesh back for both its comfortable support, as well as the ventilation.

The mesh is supported by horizontal ribs which are integral to the molded plastic frame of the chair. Additionally, there is an adjustable lumbar support rib which is approximately 4” wide, which is easily adjusted to fit the individual user.

The seat back is weight activated reclinable and reclines independently of the seat cushion which remains in a fixed position. The recline function is adjustable with a knob which is integrated with the control lever for pneumatic seat elevation.

The recline adjustment knob has three positions including “locked” (no recline), recline with tension boost which adds resistance when you lean back, and recline without boosted tension which allows easier reclining, and which best suits my preference the majority of the time.

The seat cushion is upholstered with a knit polyester fabric that is soft and comfortable and appears likely to be very durable. The seams and stitching are flawless. The polyurethane foam within the cushion is pliable, yet still firm.

The seat cushion is adjustable fore and aft through the use of the seat depth release button on the lower right underside of the seat pan. The armrests are independently adjustable for height (5” range) with a release button located on the bottom of each armrest.

The cap of each armrest can be adjusted inward or outward 4”, forward or aft, and pivoted inward or outward about 40° of rotation. This level of flexibility in adjustment of the armrests is incredibly accommodating to ensure a comfortable position at all times.

The pneumatic seat elevation adjustment ranges from a seat height of 16 ½” to 21 ½” with the upward rotation of the adjustment lever on the right side of the chair. The seat of course also swivels 360°.

The Series 1 chair easily and comfortably accommodates a wide range of people, short and tall, large and small, yet the overall size and appearance of the chair are that of a sleek, modern and relatively compact chair which does not physically or visually overwhelm.

The particular color scheme of this Series 1 chair is “Seagull” for the molded plastic frame and base, “Night Owl” for the upholstered seat cushion and “Graphite” for the 3D Microknit mesh back. Seagull is an off-white to almost very light gray, and the Night Owl cushion is a medium gray.

The armrests are a slightly darker gray named “Sterling Dark Solid”, and the Graphite mesh back is also a dark grey. These various contrasting and complimenting shades produce a very clean and modern appearance that also pleased my wife who is the “decorator-in-chief” of this household.

I am very pleased with the Steelcase Series 1 chair. First and foremost, it is very comfortable and supportive to sit in. There is a very wide range of adjustments which increase overall comfort in the chair.

The chair appears to be very well made. It is manufactured in the USA (although some of its parts are imported). The chair genuinely appears to potentially be very durable and long lived. The plastic is very thick and heavy-duty.

The upholstery fabric and mesh back appear to be very high quality, and very nicely finished. All of the components also appear to be high quality and durable including the casters and the pneumatic piston assembly.

My singular regret is that I was unable to get this chair with the optional headrest that is easily installed on the frame. I always find a headrest to be particularly beneficial when reclining the chair when in “deep thought”.

The appearance of the Steelcase Series 1 chair is sleek, clean and modern and is complimentary to either home or office use. Of course the Steelcase Series 1 chair bears no physical resemblance whatsoever to the steel frame, fabric and vinyl Steelcase chairs of fifty and sixty (and longer) years ago, however I am impressed with the fact that the Steelcase Series 1 chair is very well constructed and will be very durable and long lived.

The Steelcase Series 1 chair is a great chair and a great choice!.

This is an excellent chair for the price. High quality, high customization, and generally similar in features and build to much much more expensive ergonomic chairs like Herman Miller. It also looks great.

I recommended it wholeheartedly. Consider getting hardfloor rollers or a mat if you have hardfloor, the standard coasters are not great for hardfloor. I got the rollers and I think I should have got a mat instead; they do not scratch the hardfloor but they still put a lot of pressure on a single contact point; I can see the tiles move a little when I roll the chair.

Decent comfortable chair, things to know are that it can set a recline limit, but can not lock to a certain angle. The arm pads cannot move forward and backward. The lumbar support can only move a small amount up and down.

Overall a good chair for $170. Right arm pad is a bit squeaky on mine but its not a big annoyance.

The Hyken chair requires significant “customization” after assembly to make it even reasonably comfortable. Mesh seat: I weigh 150 pounds, but the mesh sinks when I sit on it. It’s like sitting in a deep hole and is bad for the hips and spine.

I had to insert a large foam cushion AND a gel cushion between the mesh and underlying plastic frame to make it passably ergonomic. Lumbar support: Digs into my back. Had to insert an extra foam cushion between the lumbar support and the mesh on the back of the chair.

Also had to duct tape the support to keep it from sliding up and down during use. It doesn’t stay in place. Headrest: Had to tilt my head too far back to use it. To make it usable, I had to attached a car seat neck pillow to the front.

Also, the mounting holes and bolt channels on the back are misaligned. I have to periodically retighten the bolts to keep the headrest from falling off the chair. Purchasing this chair was a “test run” to see if it would be worth buying 30 more for my workplace.

It looks nice. But it’s poorly designed and sloppily constructed, even for the price. I definitely won’t buy another, and I doubt this one will last more than a few years.

Product was well packaged in a sturdy card board box by the manufacturer (Union & Scale), care was taken to protect all of the sharp corners of various parts by wrapping them with a thick cardboard. Most of the parts are made out of thick molded plastic, which is very sturdy.

The only parts I believe are hard metal (Steel) is the controller and the arms assembly and the control cylinder that go underneath the seat. The Instructions are very clear and concise and all of the hardware (screws) are color coded and packaged well in separate pouch, which makes it a breeze to assemble (Took me 45 minutes to assemble).

The only tool I needed was the Allen Key provided with the hardware to assemble the entire chair. The chair has good amount of movement up and down and back and forth. The head rest can be tilted to a good extent to provide that extra support to the back of your Neck.

The Lower Lumbar support is at the right height and can be moved up and down by a few Inches, which helps position it to user’s needs. The arm rest moves up and down by quite a bit. The arm rests are just soft enough that you will be able to comfortably rest your arm for the entire day and are designed to be wide enough and located at the right height in its lowest setting that it supports your arm well when using a keyboard or Laptop on a desk.

I am 6 foot tall and athletic, all the adjustments fits me in the right places at it lowest setting, just to put things in perspective. The mesh on the seat, the back and the head rest seems to be sturdy and well woven with a good material of the right gage.

A bit of cushioning is provided underneath the mesh for the seat at the front where the underside of your knees rest and the lumbar support, no such cushioning is seen on the back or on the head rest, which is understandable.

There is good depth to the seat, so that you feel well seated at all times. The seat to the control cylinder and the control cylinder to the base of the legs is a soft assembly (i. e no bolts hold this together), The top and bottom of control cylinder sits in a hole on either side, one in the control arm assembly under the seat and the other in the center of the leg.

So just right after assembly, if you hold the seat and lift the chair, the seat might separate out from the cylinder (you can put it back in seconds, not a big deal), but after some use, I have tested this and they seem to stay together when you lift the seat to move the chair.

Highly recommend this chair.

I brought this chair based on reading the reviews and star ratings. Also, watched quite a few Youtube office chair reviews. All gave positive reviews. I work at my desk 10-12 hours a day, so I rely on my chair.

My opions, Pros: the price, casters rolls smooth with ease, head/neck rest height adjustment is good. I’m 5′-8″, it’ll be good for ht from 5′-6″ to 5:-9″ (but the mesh is rough). Seat ht adjustment & recline tension are good.

Lumbar support is ok. The recliner is the best part of this Chair. Cons: “Most dislike with this chair is the mesh”, seat and back mesh material is plastic/vinyl (not sure), it’s hard & rough, not comfortable to seat on for short or long period of time.

(not like the higher quality chairs w/ fabric mesh). the armrest are too narrow, inside- inside is 18″, center-center is 21. 5″. I’m average build and my arms dangles off to the outside, have to tuck my eblows in use the armrest.

This cause my neck to tense up. armsest does not sly out, away from each other. You’re stuck with 18″ of clearance. Would I buy this again? – No! And don’t recommend it. Spend an extra $100 and get a better chair.

The coarse plastic mesh was a deal breaker for me!.

Needed a good quality chair for my newly build home office and had to get a good one. All the research pointed me towards Herman Miller as one of the best, and I loved the style of this. Lumens had a great price for a fully featured chair — once you figured in the discount (I can’t remember what it was for), it was only slightly more than some of the pre-owned chairs I’d considered.

All in, great chair at a very good price, shipped reasonably quickly.

We spent a long time looking at chairs and then narrowed it to four which we ordered samples of – and then after trying out the samples of four well-known brands, we choose the Sayl Chair! It really has it all – ergonomics, function, comfort, style and a reasonable price relative to other ergonomically designed office chairs.

Have been using it for a month and i find it very comfortable especially on days with many Zoom calls. Seems sturdy and glides really well on hard wood floors. And it looks cool too. 🙂 A bit more expensive than other good chairs but worth it.

I am very impressed by this chair. It is comfortable and supports my posture naturally when working. The design feels very well thought through because each piece has its function and does it well. The leaf arm rests are rather unconventional but are perfect for resting your elbows on while working at a desk and ideally angled when reclined.

The other reason why I bought this chair is that it doesn’t have a lot of different adjustments to make. It’s just the height that is adjustable. And it really does adapt to your body weight in a sensible uncomplicated way.

The design supports the body really well and lightly somehow. However, if you’re looking for cushioned comfort then this isn’t the chair for you. It probably wouldn’t be so comfortable in short sleeves and shorts because the frame isn’t cushioned.

The build quality is excellent. The materials used are very good and it’s been put together extremely well. There are no rough edges or bits left untidy underneath. It feels like it will last a lot longer than many slightly cheaper alternatives.

Overall a very high quality product both in design and build. May not be to everyone’s taste, but I find it great for working at a desk or conference table and surprisingly pleasant to recline and relax in.

This is a awesome chair, very comfortable and great quality. It takes a bit of getting used as the default upright sitting position feels almost like it’s pushing me off the front of the chair but I realised it’s supporting me with a healthy sitting position! The recline is just right and adjusts to your position as you move.

I bought the leaf armed version and I’m pleased I did- nothing to adjust except for the height and the arms are never in the way. It’s expensive but if you can afford it and want a long lasting chair I would recommend.

Bought this for my wife who gets bad neck and back pains. She works many hours all day in front of the screen. She finds this chair extremely supportive and comfortable. She says it already saving her lots of money not having to fork out for a Osteopath or physio sessions lol.

The chair came preassembled so no faffing with screws. It is very strong sturdy and light weight. Small adjustments can be made but we found it was not necessary as the chair movies with your shape automatically to keep you supported in whatever position you choose to sit.

Yes would definitely recommend and you get what you pay for as you can see a lot of testing and research has gone into this office chair.

I am absolutely delighted with this chair. I hesitated originally given it is at high end of price range for this sort of item. Given ,however, the level of support and comfort it gives it is proving to be worth every penny.

It moulds to one’s back giving full support.

This chair looks amazing. I love the design. But I sent it back. It felt comfortable but leaning back simply would not happen, unless I pushed my feet back against a wall. I suspect I am too light or too short – the weight balance was such that I could not lean back.

It got a little better when I sat on a cushion. I am 5’4″. Decided to send it back and got the Aeron instead.
