20 Best Chairs For Therapists (2022 Updated)

Sad to say I was replacing a previous chair of the same I’ve had for about 4 years. The previous chair started to tilt to the one side and didn’t sit up as high as it used to. One time also during the course of 4 years they replaced the gas lift as that too failed.

But this last problem with the chair permanently sitting at a tilt, was a FIRST, so we opted to get another chair of the same, since outside of those 2 issues it had been a comfortable chair and seemed well constructed other than that.

Now 4 years later and just putting together a replacement chair of the same, it is obvious the quality is more subpar. The weight of the chair itself feels lighter than before, I pushed both the old chair and the new one, side by side and there was a noticeable difference, even in lifting up each of the chairs as far as weight.

However the two other factors concern the bonded leather which is definitely MUCH thinner than my previous chair, and like what you see on the more cheaply constructed chairs for like $59-$100. Also the padding for the back part of chair and the very top is horrible, like they forgot to stuff and fill it in more.

I’d forgotten this chair came with a 10 year limited warranty. Had I known the chair was going to be more cheaply constructed this time around I’d have opted to have them just replace the seat plate mechanism that appears to be the reason the previous chair began to tilt to the one side.

I only realize that now because upon turning the old chair over today, you could plainly see that is what happened. A part of it had broken. However the weight limit of the person sitting on the chair did not exceed the amount stated for the number of hours per week.

So I am quite disappointed in the Sealy brand based on the quality of this chair. Don’t think I would be able to recommend it this time around. Especially given the price tag.

I purchased this chair and initially it was comfortable but over time it has required four replacement gas lifts and seat plates. The arm leather has cracked and flaked. The chair needs repair when it leans to one side or the other and the seat plates crack and then when ever you move in the chair it makes a terrible noise.

Now I purchased this chair because of the weight limits, and the warranty, but I did not get my money’s worth. Every time they sent replacement parts they sent either Lazy boy, broyhill or generic seat lifts.

True designs makes all three of these brands. They claim higher weight limits for each brand or model. The last time, today they (2-7-2018) they sent Generic parts and the gas lift is far too short for the chair.

I am 6’2″ and when I sit in the chair it is most uncomfortable. I called True designs again, and asked for the correct gas lift, the problem with this is that while the one they sent me is shorter than the one it is replacing they claimed that they sent the right part and the parts are not marked with model numbers as they are interchangeable between chairs and the manual does not list part numbers for the chair.

I was told this time they would send me a new longer gas lift, but that next time I would have to replace it. But this raises another problem. You cannot separate the gas lift from the seat plate, and they will not send another seat plate with the longer gas lift.

If I had to do it over again, I would not purchase any chair made by True Designs. Each time I have purchased one of their chairs they break down within the first 10 -12 months. even the more expensive chairs break down quickly.

I suspect its because they all use the same poor quality parts. and make no mistake it is always the seat plate that cracks and causes the chair to lean. I am so tired of True Designs telling me that a chair with a 10 year warranty should break down every 10 -12 months.

I bought this chair in March of 22 to replace a chair that finally fell apart after many years. I bought this chair online and there were no problems with the packaging, everything was there. Now the issues.

Every hole to attach the seat and back were misaligned making it impossible to put it together. What should have been easy turned into a time consuming task of trying to straighten the holes out to get the thing assembled.

After yanking and pulling for 2 hours I managed to straighten them out as good as I could to attach the seat and back, though they’re all still mostly crooked. Even putting the rubber plugs in to the screw holes was a chore given that the screws were all crooked.

Well the chair is together for how long I don’t know so i put it my room and the disappointment continues. I sat down on it and felt like the Jolly Green Giant! I thought to myself this is a kids chair.

I’m 6 feet tall and no where near 250 pounds so this should have been ok but the seat is way short, maybe for someone 5 feet tall, and the back of it sits straight up, not comfortable at all. It’s kind of like sitting on a stool with a back on it.

It’s too late to return it, I won’t pay shipping charges either, so I guess I’ll start looking for a real chair.

This Chair is just what I needed! I was using a folding chair at my small desk, but I need more comfort and support. This chair exceeded my expectations! It is small yet has a good size seat for leg support.

The back has great support, I can work at my desk and be sitting back in my chair. The three position changing levers make it so you can customize this chair to what you need, height, lean of the back, and lean of the seat.

I can put the back where it is comfortable for how I sit, I am not leaning to find the back to rest on. I can adjust the seat so I feel my feet are properly on the floor, but not bunched up or reaching down.

And the seat adjustment I never understood until this chair. I can adjust where the pressure is being put and make sure it is even, between my boodle, and my thighs! Awesome chair, i would recommend and would buy again if I ever needed another one!.

I’m so excited about this chair. Working from Home, my old chair was not cutting it anymore. This chair is so much more comfortable and supportive for my larger body size. Be warned: this chair is HEAVY! I was able to assemble it all by myself, but it was heavy to connect the seat to the base! Once assembled, it was fun to play with all of the knobs and adjustments.

I still don’t know what two of them are for, and I can’t find any sort of indication of that online in my searches. The others all have pictures of what they’re for. I have to sit 8 hours a day and this chair has been a major game changer for me.

Nice chair with some drawbacks. It doesn’t tilt back hardly. People who are at 5’10”+\- an inch would probably fit a best in it. The arms swivel back to be out of the way when needed which I wanted for guitar playing but are too narrow for forearms but the material feels more like rough carpet and takes awhile to break in and feel ok but long periods with elbow on it is similar to carpet burn.

Too small for arm rests when typing. If under 5’9” and for home, it would best be paired with a raised foot rest of some sort. I wish it tilted back a little more still because the head rest seems pointless and unusable.

For long periods it does feel good. I have only averaged five hours daily in it and it has helped my back tremendously and the mesh material helps keep my back cool. I thought about returning but it was difficult getting it together and the boxes are hard to put back together and wasn’t sure if it needed more break in time.

Don’t tighten the screws all the way until you fitted all them in, even half way in proved difficult. Once tightened it is sturdy. The only major complaint it suffers the same issue that all office chairs have and it’s when the one to three inches it does tilt makes a thump or loud click noise.

I wish I knew why office chairs did this. So annoying especially when recording with vocals. I thought the tightening screw underneath was for tilt but it does nothing.

I’ve gone through a lot of mid-priced chairs, looking for one that could handle all this schexy. I was very hopeful that this chair would live up to its marketing. Nope. I could maybe understand the foam seat cushion being defeated if I were close to the 500 lb duty rating, but I’m not.

It handled my economy-sized butt for the first 3 months, but then I began to notice the cushion began to lose its cush. I’m just over the 5-month mark, and I can feel the metal base plate and the curvature of the cushion if I’ve moved positions after sitting a while.

I work a lot of hours, so the need for a comfortable chair is paramount for me. This chair just isn’t cutting it. (I suspect the foam is heat sensitive, which makes it break down more quickly. ) I think it’s a well-designed chair with good materials EXCEPT FOR THE CUSHION.

I would have expected that this chair could’ve lasted me 10 years when I first used it. Sadly, at 5 months out, I’m already considering different options. I plan to reach out to the vendor first to give them an opportunity to make it right.

I’m short, so I would’ve made it 2 inches lower so my feet naturally touch the floor and the armrests would fit under a standard height desk. Note: I removed the cheap wheels and put on the rollerblading wheels you can get on Amazon and that improved the glide and substantive feel of the chair noticeably.

One of the worst designed pieces of furniture I have ever seen in my life. You’re paying 125 dollars for an asymmetrical, cheap, impossible to construct chair. I have put together almost all of the furniture I have bought and have NEVER had a problem figuring out even the most difficult assembly.

This chair, however, is an entirely different beast: the holes do not align with the opening to put in the screw, the individual parts make no sense, and the screws are poorly made. When the screw would not fit properly or be removed, we tried to pull it out with a hammer.

The hammer broke before the screw even moved. NOTHING is worth this level of headache. Had the chair been something special, it would have felt somewhat satisfying, but it is literally just an office chair.

This chair isn’t worth your time and it absolutely isn’t worth the years it’s going to take off your life putting it together. Unbelievably disappointing.

The build quality of this unit seems like it will hold up for awhile. Unfortunately the seat barely has any padding and has become very uncomfortable after less than 2 month of use. I was hoping that this being Serta brand the padding would be decent but even the armrest and back padding feel thin and unsupportive.

My back is not forgiving me for this purchase. 3 stars for appearance / durability. 1 star for comfort = 2 stars.

I’ve tried a few chairs and ended up keeping this one. I like the higher back, padded arms, and the tilt feature is very nice to have. I just find that it gets uncomfortable after a couple of hours and I keep shifting in the seat to try to get comfortable which doesn’t happen.

You could probably do better but I think any chair will get uncomfortable eventually – even after a couple hours. So I recommend this one. It is well padded and is a medium sized chair – not too huge, and I got it on sale.

Surprisingly not a very good chair although it might be better if I can ever get it assembled. Base was easy to assemble but when it comes to the seat, arm rests and back cushion it is not worth the effort.

Half of the screws don’t fit properly and if they stick at all they immediately strip and are worthless. I don’t want to return this chair so I am getting alternate screws that hopefully will work. Cannot recommend this chair at all.

Its got all the bells and whistles and is quite comfortable with plenty of adjustments to suit anybody. The seat is plush and I love the headrest. It rolls perfectly fine on my Berber rug and I have actually gotten comfortable enough to fall asleep in the chair.

Would highly recommend. I did a lot of searching and when it comes down to it, if you can’t go to the store to try it out, get the chair that fits everyone. Hbada is a solid brand.

I saw that several reviews stated that this chair is comfortable, which is why I bought it. From the photos, the padding seemed like it should be comfortable but it is NOT. If I sit in the chair for longer than an hour, I have to slowly get it because it is so painful ( butt area).

I have owned this chair for 3 months and recently had to move a dining chair into my office because I can not take the discomfort anymore. I’m not sure if weight/size has anything to do with it, I am 5’2 and weigh 165lb.

Pretty upset that I wasted my money, I should have returned it sooner, kept hoping with time it would get better. Oh well. It does look as pictured, a pretty pink chair, just not for me.

Love the chair we had an issue where the chair was dropped off but I never received it. It was a birthday gift for my daughter she is remote learning from home. We finally got it replaced I was told we would receive it on January 19 but we were surprised when it arrived yesterday.

It is a beautiful and comfortable chair. However, I lost the instructions (and later found them after putting the chair together halfway), so it was difficult putting it together at first. The little plastic crystals sparkle like stars and make me smile at my beautiful chair.

It is fairly easy to adjust the chair to your height and it seems very sturdy. My only real problem was the black ring around the top of the chair legs was cracked in two places and I had to tape it up.

The cushioning in both armrests went flat where my elbows sit after just 2 weeks of daily use. Previous office chairs I’ve had lasted at a minimum of a year and even up to several years. This is a nice looking chair upon first look, but the quality of materials seems to be very poor.

Very disappointed that armrest cushions failed after just 2 weeks. Makes the chair rather uncomfortable. The hydraulic lift cylinder also went bad within a year, leaving the chair sunk at it’s lowest setting.

Would not recommend this chair.

Chair would be nice if they could get their quality control together. Seat bottom arrived with tape glue stuck to the seat that would not come off, plus a section of the “leather” surface had pulled-off with the tape; manufacturer sent a new seat base (& back for some reason) to make it right.

However, upon further assembly, I noticed scratched & chipped parts (had to have happened during manufacturing, because the parts were wrapped well), & a ridiculous change to the location of the “L” & “R” markings for the arms, where they have them formed into the metal on the outsides now, NOT on the insides (like the manual shows) hidden from view after assembly! And yes, I have the arms on the correct sides; it would not fit together properly if you put them on the wrong sides (seatback would not be able to bolt-on, as longer bolts would be necessary).

So now I have a raised, sideways “L” & a “R” on the lower parts of the arms that _is_ visible/noticeable; not sure I am going to keep the chair.

DONT BELIEVE THIS CHAIR IS EASY TO ASSEMBLE. One of the reasons I bought this chair was because of a serious spinal injury that I have and I am single. I needed an excellent chair with support though for working on my PC.

This chair is a NIGHTMARE to assemble, and I have put MANY together. DONT TIGHTEN ANYTHING UNTIL ITS ALL TOGETHER AND WATCH THE DIRECTIONS CLOSE. That being said: OMGOSH this chair is AWESOME COMFORTABLE.

I am so very happy 🙂 I just assembled this nightmare and my back is not in pain while sitting in it. SO if you need a good chair at a good price, YES~ I do recommend the chair. Be advised it will NOT fit and will take some serious work to get the last 8 bolts in.

At least it did for me. But OMGOSH i LOVE this char now. Still giving this 5 stars for the value and because it does what its SUPPOSED TO DO. its comfortable and looks nice. Did i say comfortable? :).

The chair was delivered with care by Staples fleet. It was very well packaged to prevent damage. Virtually every piece was wrapped in and/or separated by foam, cardboard and plastic. All loose hardware was blister packed and shrink wrapped inside a separate box with instructions.

There were secondary instructions on the seat bottom. Assembly was very easy due to clear instructions, labeling of parts and the included ergonomic hex key/wrench tool. Each included screw already had threadlock applied which was an unexpected but welcome bonus.

So far, this product and experience projected quality, which resulted in a solid, very comfortable chair. Note that it is a large and heavy chair, which speaks to its comfort and quality. This chair replaced a similar Serta office chair that stood up to about 10 years of almost daily use until an internal support plate broke and I would expect the same longevity or better from this one.

Only time will tell how well the bonded leather will hold up, but it has a quality and comfortable feel now, with careful stitching and construction, so with reasonable care it should last and continue to look good.

One last note, the daily user is just over 5 feet tall and while her feet don’t easily touch the floor when reclining, they do when typing and writing because as she pointed out, you generally lean forward at those times so they do touch then.

I checked in with her just now after her second day of use and she rates comfort and functionality 10 of 10.

I purchased this chair in Jan 2014 after having many different computer chairs in the past. I wanted something that was comfortable for many hours at a time everyday on the PC, and hopefully last more than 1 year without falling apart.

After almost 8 years of heavy use, here are my thoughts of this chair: Pros: You can feel the quality. It’s extremely comfortable, 8-10 hours per day and zero numbness and/or discomfort. There’s so much padding in the back and seat, it’s firm and soft.

The recline option is very nice. The durability of the chair is amazing, minus the bonded leather. Cons: The bonded leather started flaking after a couple of years. I’m forced to replace it with another Bradley because it looks so bad now.

After almost 8 years this chair looks like it’s on its last leg, yet it’s still fully functional. Overall, I recommend this chair. By far the best chair I’ve ever owned and will never own anything other than a La-Z-Boy.

Fist of all, the people at ‘Staples” that helped me select and order this chair were EXCELLENT. This is the FOURTH chair of this type that I have purchased from “Staples” over the last 8 years. and their associates at the two stores I have patronized were ALWAYS very courteous and very helpful.

Now I am NOT a ‘collector’ of these types of ‘high back, Executive Style’ office chairs. I just like this style. Unfortunately, the ONLY ONES NOW OFFERED by any one that sells office chairs are made with a fabric covering called ‘bonded leather’.

That ‘bonded leather’ is NOT anything close to REAL leather. It is some inferior type of vinyl in my opinion. Of the THREE chairs I’ve had prior to this one that I just purchased, the ‘bonded leather’ on ALL of them begins to split or crack or just open up at any of the seams.

The problem is usually first apparent on the arm rests but I have had two of them then progress to the ‘bonded leather’ splitting and separating at the seat seams as well. I did take advantage of the warranty on the last chair and with a call to “Staples” customer support, they very expediently sent me two new armrests for that chair but the ‘bonded leather’ on those new armrests failed even more quickly.

As poor as the ‘bonded leather’ coverings are, the chair seats also become ‘flat’ and ‘hard’ in about 1. 5 to 2 years as well. So as the ‘bonded leather’ is failing first, a ‘hard and flattened’ seat is not far behind.

Now in case you are wondering, I am a 70 year old man that is 6′ tall and weigh 190 lbs. I wish I weighed less but a man of my weight should not cause chairs like this to FAIL in 1. 5 to 2 years. I have ONLY used these chairs in my home office for about two to three hours a day (and often much less).

I have come to expect this fate and am obviously a fool enough to keep buying these chairs. It appears that ‘bonded leather’ is the ONLY fabric covering used on these chairs that are of course made in China.

Even my latest chair is called a “La-Z-Boy” brand chair but it is also made in China and of course has the SAME ‘bonded leather’. If you can ‘afford’ whatever the price is for the chairs of this style that you may like, I would suspect you will experience the same ‘bonded leather’ failures and a ‘hard’ and ‘flat’ seat in a year or two as I have.

If that does NOT bother you, then you are like me and just keep accepting the fate of “they don’t make them like they used to”.

Not too bad for the price. It’s an inexpensive chair, and it should work fine for a lighter individual. It might not be the most comfortable choice for long periods of sitting, like at a work desk. It works well for my child to sit at his desk and do his homework or projects.

I like that it’s adjustable and that it rolls.

First the knob underneath that holds the ‘spine’ quickly broke, which is covered in cheap plastic, and that whole back rest piece fell off; who wants to fall off backwards? I replaced the knob. The pneumatic height adjustment broke & it’s stuck in the highest position, putting lots of pressure behind my knees.

There is No lower back support, nor a way to secure cushions. The back does NOT tilt; So if you have sciatia, mid-thorasic or ESPECIALLY lower lumbar or lower disc degeneration back problems this cheap chair is Not the chair to buy.

I’ve been using a really old chair that tilts too much, with lotsa pillows secured/tied, but is right height. Best to spend more for a chair that suits your needs. I’m shopping for a new one right now, with a warranty.

At home this model is now just a swivelling chair for my cats to claw and hold onto when I groom them :/.

I was looking for a small yet comfortable office chair and this is just perfect. It’s comfortable, it wheels, it swivels, you can adjust the height. It’s exactly right for the purpose that I needed it for! And the price is right.

I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars on an office chair and then I found this.

I am extremely happy with this chair. The chair is very high quality, especially relative to the price. It came in a timely fashion and was easy to install. Just pay attention to the little separators which fit on the screws between the arm rests and the chair itself when attacking— they are asymmetrical and the wider part must face up.

This is a generous sized chair with a wide and deep seat. One of the few complaints here was that it was uncomfortable behind the knees. I can see why— I am 6-1 tall and fits me well. Much shorter legs, and you may not reach the back rest with your hips.

The chair is super comfortable, for work; not to sleep in it. The wand which locks the rocking feature has a little play, but not serious enough to be an issue. Also, the chair when locked, is not rock solid tight, but, again, not noticeable to the point of bother.

If you want an air tight perfectly built chair, you’ll need to spend easily tenfold or more. Bottom line, an excellent chair, and when I need more, I won’t be looking anywhere else. Hope this helps.

My order was shipped the same day I submitted my order. The chair arrived in 4 business days (CA to FL) which was super. It was packed extremely well. I removed it and did have to call in a handyman to pop in the coasters as I didn’t have the strength.

I opted for no armrests for now. I can always add them if I change my mind. My handyman’s hands were dirty, apparently. A Mr. Clean Miracle spongey thing took all his dirt off my white chair with just a wipe.

I love the ease of adjustability and the slight give when leaning back. It’s cool, practical and was less than the similar (same?) chair in brick and mortar. You’ll love it!.

I am a medical student studying for my boards, and I love this chair so much that I had to take a study break to write this review months after purchasing! I ordered this chair in brown (was contemplating many colors) and I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.

The item is very, very high quality – the metal is beautiful, sturdy, and has held up very well with use. The chair is extremely easy to assemble. Like many others, I did not end up using the arm rests so I could slide the chair in close to my desk while I work.

However, it looks beautiful either way! Regarding comfort, which is the most important thing to me, this chair is the most comfortable of any I have used in my 10+ years as a student. I’m 6′-0″ and weigh about 270 lbs. (I wish reviewers would include relevant information like this to help others. Just sayin’) I’ve used this chair in my office for about 7+ years now. The leather just started peeling from the seat about a year ago.

I’m sad about that, but it lasted longer than expected. I like this chair so much; I found myself here because I’m looking for a replacement seat. After reading the other reviews and some of the issues people have had, the rest of this wordy review might help some.

I bought it because of all the research I did on good office chairs for larger men. I kept reading that lumbar support is one of the hallmarks of a good office chair. So, I bought this chair because of the great reviews and lumbar support.

The lumbar support was awkward at first. It kept pushing me forward. I told myself that maybe I’ve never had good lumbar support and don’t know what it feels like. I chalked it up to just being something new I need to get used to.

After probably a year of fighting it, I finally got fed up. The lumbar support was never going to get better. Since the chair was way beyond any return warranty. My DIY instinct took over. I looked at the chair to see what I can do.

The solution was super easy. I just removed the lumbar support. Since I put the chair together, it was easy to take it apart and reassembled it without the lumbar pad. As I recollect, I just removed the lumbar pad—the bracket which held the pad was still needed to reassemble the chair.

The only concern I had, was the bracket sticks up a little between the back and the seat. But I’ve been using the chair for years and have never felt it, and it’s never been an issue. That was the ticket to making this the best office chair I’ve ever had.

I know I bought the wrong chair. I listened too much to reviews without fully understanding what they were actually talking about. Apparently, I didn’t need that much lumbar support. But, I didn’t know, and it was a learning experience.

Luckily it wasn’t a total waste of money since it was easily fixable. I say, remove the lumbar support if it’s bugging you.

If I cold give this chair negative stars I would. It is miserably uncomfortable. I very carefully checked the specs prior to purchasing to make sure the seat depth would be sufficient. And it probably would be if not for the so-called lumbar support cushion.

Because of that cushion I can’t sit far enough back in the seat to be in a comfortable position. The lumbar cushion is hard and unyielding and pushes me forward to the extent I can’t even rest my back against the chair! I’m bracing myself not slide off and I’m getting horrible cramps in my thighs and lower back.

The only reason I haven’t returned it is because it’s already assembled and I can’t get it out of my house and into the car. I certainly expected better from Serta!.

Being over weight is very expensive when it comes to comfort. To get a quality office type chair that can stay up under my weight for this price is lucky find. Years ago DXL had a catalog called Living Large.

And as expected the furniture items were expensive. If I recall correctly you would need to pay over $400 for a high back chair like this. It is well padded, has adjustments for back pressure, height, and how much you want to lean back.

Plus the arms fold up so it slides under my desk when not in use. I was looking for a while and was getting ready to pay almost $300 to get one until I came across this one. With the extra warrantee it’s still a great bargain.

So we’re going to have to take the chair apart and put it back together and hopefully that fixes what’s actually wrong. Oh and it’s on back order for 8-10 weeks. So hopefully the chair even makes it that long.

It’s super comfy but fell apart way too fast and is way to expensive for that. I’ve had $60 Amazon chairs last longer. Needless to say I’ll never purchase from Serta again.
