20 Best Chalk For Weightlifting (2022 Updated)

I’m going to order this solely based on the review left by Chalkreviewer. Plus, this chalk seems to have that attitude of “I’m not gonna give in to the conventional uses on 1980 chalkboards, my life is too precious”.

and I think that’s great. Other chalks need to stand up and fight along side Bisonchalk. The chalks that won’t, should buy and use a trusted brand of human hand skin and get a grip on the reality that is a chalk’s life.

Every gram counts. And if Eco-friendly chalks have negative attitudes towards those whom rise up, say “hey, this is the way I was born, and I’m happy with that”. Furthermore, every blade of grass cooking up Flintstone side characters, turning tricks down on Magnolia, with boots consuming formidable aerospace sock-lords, needs to know this.

Don’t believe the other reviews, the bad ones or the good ones. Just believe the chalk. I’m updating this chalk review because the old Bison Competition Chalk isn’t sold here anymore, though this new chalk is the same as the old chalk.

What’s changed is the digital location of this product, and that means what’s changed isn’t real, or at least it isn’t the kind of real that the R in REI stands for. Now to the chalk review. Bison Chalk is great.

It’s just chalk, yes, but it’s just great chalk. It’s like ground up angels. without having to hurt angels. It’s like fresh whipped cream. but dry. It’s like putting silk gloves on. except it’s really chalk gloves.

When you use this chalk while climbing, it is like a second, far smaller climber you are holding on to, carrying you up the wall. When you use this chalk in front of climbers, they will ask what chalk it is exactly.

I’ve made friends because of this chalk, and enemies, I’m sad to say. I met my husband because of this chalk. When I put this chalk on my hands, my husband says, “this chalk is a metaphor for our love.

” This chalk is like a lover that can’t stand the angle at which you fall. This chalk is like an animal’s beating heart in your hands going quiet. This chalk is like the animal that has forfeited its heart to a mysterious chain of being.

This chalk. could be cheaper. Now to respond to a few of the bad and good reviews: SamGoingWest says, “This isn’t chalk, but rather a chalk powder that soaks up your sweat and becomes slippery. Not only do your hands become slippery; but if you’re sweating, you’re gonna sweater right through it!” SamGoingWest is getting granular here, and I, like anybody reviewing chalk, get excited when things get granular, especially when it comes to figuring out what “chalk” is, exactly.

SamGoingWest claims it’s more of a “powder”, and he’s not wrong. It does feel like powdered sugar, the sweet lusciousness of which I alluded to in my original review in the metaphor of whipped cream.

It doesn’t taste like powdered sugar (nor whipped cream), however, and I have tasted both (this chalk and powdered sugar)(and whipped cream). In a rave review titled “Great chalk!” Nvcoyote7 writes, “I like the way it feels.

Super smooth. I don’t know if its my hands but it seems to stay on my hands better than a few other chalks I’ve had. ” I don’t mean to be rude, nvcoyote7, but it is not your hands in particular. I imagine your hands are special, but I doubt they are the kind of special that retain this chalk better than other hands.

This chalk is special because it is a new set of hands on top of your hands, as I mentioned in my original review. None writes, “Been climbing for thirty years and this is one of the worst chalks I have ever used.

Hard to get out of the container without making a mess and clumps up while using. Literally fell off my hands unless I rubbed it into my hands. Will not buy again. Please go back to selling chalk in block form.

” I have been climbing for 31 years, in fact, and I think that extra year has leant me a bit of perspective, if I may say so. In those 31 years, I have learned that merely putting something onto your hands isn’t a guarantee that that something will not fall off them.

None complains that you have to “rub” the chalk into your hands, as if the chalk should rub itself into your hands. It is my opinion that this chalk already gives so much, so why can’t we give it something in return (for example, a brief rubbing of it into our hands)? And what’s more, None’s formalist critique at the end, delivered via an innuendo that blocks are better, a priori, than velvety formlessness, is unconvincing even as innuendo.

Every time I dip my hands into the mythic basin of my Bison Chalk, I feel an ending and a beginning, I feel the pull of an intelligence that has no brain, I feel like the climbing wall before me is actually a door, swinging inward to a future that wants to welcome me.

For personal reasons, I am changing my original 4-star review to 5. I am still married to my husband, who also likes this chalk.

Great chalk if you have abnormally sweaty hands. Fine powder consistency that easily coats your hands and sucks up the sweat for the length of an average boulder problem and most of a small 30ft sport climb.

It’s also pure magnesium carbonate, no fillers that may irritate your skin like some of the budget minded chalks. The reviews that state it makes holds and their hands slippery are using too much chalk and gumming up the holds which will happen with any chalk, that’s why they make brushes.

for chalk-o-holics. REI use to stock this in store but I can only find it online now, worth the wait though.

If you think all chalk is the same. YOUR WRONG!!! I promise, the first time you use Spiderchalk, you will FEEL THE DIFFERENCE. I recently shared my spiderchalk powder with a fellow gym member. He immediately looked over at me after glancing at his hands and said, What is that, thats awesome!!! I just smiled.

Super dry and lasts longer on my hand. Soaks up the sweat on my hands during long workouts. Doesn’t get slimy.

My hands sweat a lot, and it is problematic to me when I am doing gardening, wearing gloves, even baking mitts. A friend suggested that I try chalk, I nearly got regular chalk till I realized that they meant the chalk for athletes.

50ml. Well, for my use, a little bit goes a long way and really worked well. I didn’t have my garden gloves irritating my skin with my sweat, it was easier for me in the kitchen for appliances and my oven mitts, and when I had to wear gloves to help a few friends out around their house I didn’t have icky hands.

I also noticed that my grip was so much better while mixing baked goods when I used this, and opening jars, and packing up donations.

For as great as I hear this stuff is, less brittle than other blocks, etc, it came with chunks broken off and has continued to break when applying to my hands. Also needs to reapply every few sets. I’ll stick to the Spider liquid chalk, and probably try to make liquid chalk with what I have left of this.

This chalk is by far the best. I like the blocks personally as they last longer and don’t crumble when chalking the hands!!.

These blocks feels way different than other chalk, bigger and more dense for sure. The block stayed solid even after tossing in the chalk bucket from a few feet away. It’s still in one piece! Feels extra dry and sticky compared to normal chalk.

I don’t normally write reviews. 10/10 recommend this product. After the first use, I fell in love. The bar slips everytime I go for a PR (I sweat a lot). The wraps and gloves do not work for me, I have smaller hands and it effects my grip.

I was easily able to go for my PR because of a sweat free firm grip. Love this product!.

The product is exactly as described. All the blocks came unbroken with just a minimal amount of flaking. Extremely effective for weight lifting and kettlebells ( what I bought this for ) and with eight blocks I will probably have enough for years lol.

Works AMAZINGLY!!! I use this stuff primarily for weightlifting, to aid in grip, but this stuff has so many different uses its crazy! I have so far used it for; -weightlifting -pulling lids off cans and jars -riding my bicycle.

I’ve used this item about 5 times now and it has helped me so much when my grip starts to give out while lifting. I would definitely recommend if you like lifting and have a problem with grip sometimes.

Chose the block style because it seemed easier to use than the liquid. The person using it said it works great. He keeps it in a plastic basket for ease of use and to prevent mess.

I own a gym and Rogue is frequently out of stock of their chalk. 8 blocks for $11. 99 versus 2 for $7. 99 of lower quality chalk that doesn’t stay together and is dust after the first use. I guess it makes sense why Rogue can’t keep it on the shelf.

Product arrived quickly, good value for money. The chalk works pretty well for climbing but. I find it too light and powdery to use indoors on a bouldering gym. It basically makes too much of a mess like for my taste and although a chalk cloud is fine outdoors on a indoor setting I find it too much as it just adds to the poor air quality of the place.

For indoors I would recommend denser chalk bars like the beta chalk which you can break in smaller pieces and doesnt fly all over the place every time you use it.

Another great product from Psychi as you would expect. Chalk ball is as you would expect. And it’s great that it’s refillable. The chalk is very fine, so won’t be to everyone’s taste though.

I’m giving a low review because of the claims made that the balls reduce dust and the MgO3 stays on your skin longer so less reapplication is needed. this is not true. the balls became extremely dusty after awhile.

it’s standard magnesium carbonate like other chalks, so it needs to be re-applied when you need to. i didn’t find the cloth bag to be that useful, as the clip broke after a few uses and i had to put the balls in a ziplock bag.

the bag can’t be re-used because of the broken clip and powder being all over the bag and string so it can’t be refilled and tied up.

The pouch does as advertised. Nothing much to complain about. Simple product that fulfills it’s purpose.

It got stolen from my CrossFit literally 2 days after use so clearly an amazing desirable product, will definitely purchase again lol

Let’s just say, if Ace Ventura had a bottle of this stuff in his chalk bag instead of his monkey companion Spike (who provided literally no help at all), the fury woodland raccoon would have never slipped from his grasp while climbing high in the Himalayas in the opening scene of “Ace Ventura – When Nature Calls”.

Don’t let your weights suffer the same fate as the raccoon, falling to their death.

I have the clammiest hands that I know of. I usually find myself chalking up 3-6 times during any workout. I was skeptical at first using Spider Chalk, but after any and all of my grip-centric workouts/exercises (cleans, arms, pullups), I’m 100% behind this stuff.

One single application has served me well every time I’ve used it–about 3 weeks now. Little to no mess as well.

This product has great grip and lasts a long time! I have used this product as a climber and I would normaly have to chalk up everytime I jump off a route. With Spider Chalk Liquid Chalk I am able to climb for longer amounts of time with minimal chalk breaks.

As an added bonus it smell amazing!.

I bought this a few weeks ago to test it out since my gym doesn’t allow powder chalk. It works well initially however, I am a very sweaty person so I had to keep reapplying to ensure I had a good grip.

I would recommend this to the average person but I think it didn’t work too well because of my dripping sweat.

I’ve used multiple brands of liquid chalk throughout the powerlifting career. Hands down Spider Chalk is the best! It lives up to the hype and one application can last for the span of your training session.

I guarantee you will be satisfied with this purchase.

Without taking price into account, I would probably give it a 4 star review. Compared with dry chalk it is more convenient, cleaner, less wasteful in the gym. One drawback is that it takes time to dry.

Not much, but a non zero amount, which is more time than dry talk takes. So there is a wait period after chalking up. Another is convenience mid route. Not a big deal if you aren’t on the wall too long or are just bouldering.

Compared with other liquid chalks? I have no idea. This is the first I’ve tried. The reason for the low rating is price. Twenty dollars for a 75 ml bottle is very steep. I recommend buying your own squeeze tube, powdered chalk(magnesium carbonate) in bulk, and your own rubbing alcohol.

I saw a recipe online, should have used it myself, check one out for proportions. Use your blender, adjust recipe for desired thickness if needed, pour into the squeeze tube. Store excess in some airtight container.

Ready made is convenient, but the price is outrageous really. The secret is the customer is paying too much.

My gym had added a liquid chalk dispenser as a brief experiment, and I found that I really enjoyed it. When the dispenser went away, I decided to buy some. At least for me, it is not a replacement for my regular chalk while climbing, but it is a very effective base layer of chalk that seems to make my regular chalk adhere better and last longer.

At least if my regular chalk wears off and I can’t chalk up for whatever reason, I still have some dry grip left.

I got this last minute, on my way to a crag after forgetting my chalk bag. It worked surprisingly well! For shorter climbs, where you don’t need to re-chalk, this is amazing. It’s hard to use on the wall, so it doesn’t replace a chalk bag on your harness for longer climbs, but it’s my new go-to for bouldering, short walls, and the gym.

When a friend of mine first introduced me to Friction Lab’s climbing chalk and told me that he had spent over $20 for a 10oz bag I thought he had fallen for the greatest advertisement ploy since bottled water.

I mean, what could possibly make this chalk so special. chalk is chalk. right? Wrong!! I tapped a bit of this magical powder into my chalk bag and had at go at a route I had been working on for several days and figured if I was going to feel any difference in grip, it would be at the sloping crux of this steep nemesis that had successfully spit me off my last three attempts.

I clipped the fourth bolt, took a deep breath and dipped into the bag of hope and had a go. To my surprise, the hand stuck! I matched dipped again. slapped my hand on my pant leg and moved through the next sequence with relative ease.

Did the chalk make the difference? Did the stars simply align that day?. I’m not sure, but what I do know is that I have not used another brand of chalk since that day! A Miracle in a bag?. maybe not, but a great product that delivers?.

Absolutely!!!.

There are a bunch or grip lotions that make your grip super tacky. The issue I had with them is they were to tacky and if my hand placement wasn’t perfect then I’d end up with a bad grip. The secret stuff gives all the grip benefits without the downside of being over tacky.

I touch up ever stage or two with the chalk ball and everything is super consistent feeling. The biggest down side is the perceived mess, as it is chalk. I don’t have an issue with malfunctions due to the chalk dust but, I shoot CO with a beretta so it’s not a huge sample size.

After about 2 months of using it daily I highly recommended it! For me it gives me a great feeling grip, doesn’t cause problems, and doesn’t wreck my hands. Ps get the climbskin too it’s worth every penny.

I got this as a gift for my brother after seeing all the other good reviews so, I’ll have to see how he likes it. But I’m pretty sure he’ll be stoked to see such a high quality gift heheh. 😌😁 The packaging was nice and it seems like he will put it to good use since he rock climbs a lot.

It did seem like this particular chalk is on the chunky side, which is what it’s made to be, so it’ll be good choice if you prefer that over really fine or really chunky chalk. The bag also seems pretty full so you’re getting what you paid for.

Overall it’s a pretty nice gift idea for rock climbing friends or family members! Would totally recommend.

I wanted to use this throughout the summer before reviewing and I am incredibly impressed. I sweat a TON and it always effects my grip. With COVID craziness chalk was nearly impossible to find for a while so I tried out this.

I put it on in the beginning of a workout and there is still some grip left by the end. Dries fast. A little goes a long way. Very pleasant smell. Over I’m quite satisfied.

I have tried other brands of liquid chalk and none are as good as liquid grip. Even tried making some myself. It sounds expensive for chalk but it lasts a long time and you don’t get chalk all over the gym.

Besides in these times of hyper vigilant germ detection it is actually antiseptic.

I give reps to the Iron Lord in Memorial Hall, at SUNY Plattsburgh. The greatest challenge was pulling of deadlifts with no chalk, straps or mixed grip; the buggers DON’T ALLOW CHALK!. I found Liquid Grip quite by chance, and by the Great Power Rack, I felt the glory of unadulterated, raw lifts.

Very little is required, and I personally carry around an adorable 8oz bottle! Kawaii indeed. Life changing? Aye. There was hardly any mess on the bar either; I can’t say the same for my bloody fingers.

Literally. They bleed when I go heavy with a hook grip. [As a note, I use a hook grip for nearly everything; the last thing I need is a bicep tear. Plus my sumo form collaborates gloriously with the hook grip].

The thin profile of this belt is great for slipping under a harness while climbing. It’s fantastic if you will be in and out of your climbing gear for a couple hours. However, when it doesn’t have a harness over it, the tail can slip out of your belt loops easily and become annoying due to the thin, light profile.

Wouldn’t recommend it for everyday use. Seems durable enough to last a long time.

Probably the best of the cheapish chalk brands. Is friction labs better? Maybe marginally, maybe placebo, but either way not 3x the price better than this stuff. In the same price range, metolius has too many harsh additives for my skin, and flashed absorbs too much atmospheric moisture and becomes useless after the bag has been cracked for more than a week.

I was not very impressed with this chalk. I am new to climbing so this is only the second brand of chalk that I have every tried. The first brand was a cheap starter chalk that came in a resuable sock.

I was very satisified with it. Once I ran out I figured that getting black diamond chalk wold be an upgrade. I was wrong. Pros -Coats your hand very easily. This makes it great for a quick re-chalking when you are midroute.

-The chunks are mostly intact and are of a good size. I like to alternate between using a sock and just putting this right into my bag. The chunks made it easy to refill both without making a big mess.

– It does a decent job wicking away moisture. -A lot of chalk for the price. Cons -Does not stay on my hands very long. I need to reapply more than I did with my previous chalk. -The chalk isn’t very “sticky”.

My other chalk I used seem to make my fingers cling to holds like I’m spiderman. This chalk almost makes holds feel more slippery.

Bought the biggest bottle. Easy to carry around in my gym bag. No mess. Dries quick after applying. Love it 🙂

Made the mistake of not removing the plastic cover before squeezing the chalk all over myself. really good stuff, only need a small amount to be covered in chalk.

Present for my daughter! I was very pleased. cute! not only. Easy to hold grip. Hard brushes are easier to polish. It is a working thing.

This is one of the least expensive chalk balls, but it works just great for my purpose (gym climbing). Considering this price, it is a bit to silly to pay money for rental chalk at gym (you can use any plastic bags or sacs for a chalk bag).

Or eye bags fine of, does not go out too much powder, but the effectiveness and the split is a good feeling. It seemed to be able to refill in the photograph, but you can not refill.

Good climbing chalk. I bought the Metolius Super chalk some time ago and did not like it. The Super chalk seemed more difficult to crumble between the fingers and just had a slipperier feel to me. The chalk block crumbles easily, and does a better job of absorbing moisture.

I’m not a rock climber. I use this for crossfit style workouts at home. It’s the first time I’ve ever used chalk, so I really don’t know any better. But it has significantly helped me with pull-ups, toes-to-bar exercises, and prevents the kettlebell from flying out of my hands.

I would consider myself a heavy chalk user for sure, and let me tell you, these blocks of chalk LAST. When i first started getting my garage gym set up (thank you rogue) chalk was on my list but at that time they didnt have the rogue chalk so i settled for the chalk ball thing.

So as soon as the rogue chalk became available i purchased two boxes to secure some chalk before they sell out again. Once i finished the chalk ball i totally forgot that i had ordered two boxes of rogues chalk beforehand, so i had ordered another two boxes.

When i realized that i already had two boxes i said oh well, two more boxes couldnt hurt. So i now have 4 boxes of rogue chalk that im sure will last me YEARS because im still on my first block of chalk after using it 4-5 days a week after 2 months now and there is still PLENTY of life left in my first block.

Rogue Chalk has always felt superior to other brands IMO. When supplies ran out for months, we were forced to try other brands and we STRUGGLED to find anything close (never did – to silky and no grip enhancement).

To the bare hand of someone who could care less, they won’t see it. But when chalk is a fairly major factor on big lift and technical gymnastics days, Rogue’s is the expected superior quality you’ve come to know from this brand.

There is a difference. So quit talkin and start chalkin.

Two part review: 1. To clarify for anyone buying, the $11. 99 block of chalk that LOOKS like it has a single block inside, actually has 6 blocks of chalk. We have about 80-100 clients walk through our gym door every day, most of whom are addicted to chalk, and the $55 pack takes us about 2 years to go through.

It’s a lot of chalk, for very, VERY cheap. 2. It is not amazing chalk. The blocks are very brittle and will not stay intact for very long, meaning you will need to apply it as powder. Powder tends to make a mess.

Four star review because I can’t justify paying 10x more for chalk just because people want a solid pressed block. Thanks for the cheap alternative Rogue! Always a fan.
