12 Best Charcoal Lighter Fluid (2022 Updated)

The whole concept of match-light charcoal would mean that one doesn’t have to use anything but a match to light it, right? Apparently not this stuff, where marketing must have gotten a bit too confident for the development team to back up that claim.

A half pack of matches, a good 3 minutes of a hand lighter, and a few fistfuls of newspaper were wholly insufficient to generate even the slightest flame from these dudes. It should be noted, this was a just-opened package.

Oh, you say the charcoal needs to be stored inside, per the useless YouTube tutorial? Great, except a) I’m not storing anything this supposedly flammable in my house, and b) that advice is nowhere on the bag.

Prospective buyer, do yourself a favor: get a gas grill or a chimney and some real charcoal. If you’re going to spend a half hour prepping a grill, may as well make it worth it.

After years of using kingsford it has now become one of the worst “instant light” charcoals on the market. The past 4 bags purchased have never caught flame like they used to. EVERY SINGLE ONE has required the use of lighter fluid just like normal charcoal.

I have to say the quality has definitely lost its touch over the past years. At one point I had even gone back to the grocery store for a store brand knock off that was way better. I kept going back to you, however you have continued to let me down.

Its just another disappointment in what used to be a great brand. Sorry kingsford but you have now lost a loyal purchaser because of your product quality.

I used to use the regular charcoal, but decided to give this match light a try. It did not light at all. The bag has not been opened and it was stored in my cool garage. I stacked the briquettes and lit from the bottom corners.

Absolutely nothing happened on either side. So of course I had no choice but to use lighter fluid. I hope my food doesnt taste like lighter fluid because if its already infused in the coal they should light right up and I should have to use lighter fluid.

But nothing happened. I am highly disappointed!.

This stuff is great! It makes lighting your fires so easy and safe! Whether your trying to light your charcoal grill, outdoor fireplace, or even a bonfires! You only need a very tiny drizzle to start your fire! Do not use alot or you could risk it exploding when you light it! Be very careful when using this!!! A little goes a long way!! Start small! You can always add more if you need it! This is very inexpensive for how long this bottle could last if you use it correctly!.

This really gets our grill to light so fast! It really helps burns our coals when we bbq! It wasn’t costly and is very essential to get our food cooked! I definitely recommend it to all who use coals when grilling!.

It won’t say naphtha on the bottle anymore, as this is now associated with chemicals known to have harmful effects. (This is true of all solvents and hydrocarbons actually!). However, looking at the MSDS provided by Zippo, it appears to be consistent with other “naphtha” labeled products.

Naphtha, as it turns out is just a generic term for many kinds of distillates of natural gas or petroleum, which have hydrocarbons of varying molecular weights. The distillated fraction is then classified by the molecular weight as light, heavy, etc and grouped accordingly.

At the prices that lighter fluid has gone for historically, it is impossible that the fractions were very pure to begin with. (It is, after all, just lighter fluid, not some industrial or research grade product.

) Therefore, while it may not have a re-assuring label, I believe this is safe to use as the previous version. In fact, there is no real proof that the formula actually changed. If someone knows differently (a real chemist for example), please speak up! I continue to use this on expensive guitars, including my Gibson Les Paul Standard and my American Fender Stratocaster, with nothing but great results.

I would encourage everyone who uses this (or any cleaning product for that matter) on an expensive instrument to FIRST apply it to a CLEAN, soft rag (like an old t-shirt), rather than directly to the instrument itself.

When you gotta have a zippo, this is great lighter fluid. Great to have around because you never know when you need to light a candle. Gotta be prepared in the event that the unexpected happens. Great quality lighter fluid.

Since I couldn’t find fluid for my zippo, I found this cheaper fluid. Which works the same if not better, last longer in my experience. High recommend it

Bought this to use on our Labor Day weekend trip and its awesome! Has everything you need to cook up a great meal. Literally performs the way the other reviews, videos and instructions say. We used a small pot on the grill to heat up rice and edamame while grilling 2 tuna steaks.

Both came out great with plenty of room. Just make sure of the pot size you want to use before you go on your trip. I found that I can use a Stanley Camp Percolator and a small cast iron pan to make coffee and eggs; again, came out great! This is the best grill around.

Cannot wait for the charcoal pod refills so I can carry less and get more use out of the HERO Grill! Thanks!.

It’s a great grill and concept especially for when I’m boating. Previously even my portable gas grill was heavy, took up space and was less than practical when wading to a shore for picnic. This tidy little package makes it much simpler.

But, I just wish for 2 things. First, the pod setup is pretty expensive for every time you want to grill and second, while it’s good heat, I wish it could burn hotter like other charcoal setups to really get that sear crust on meat.

Overall I’m very pleased though.

The Hero charcoal pods are very easy to use. They light quickly and cook evenly. The plant based coals give the food a much preferred flavor to standard charcoal, in my opinion. The cleanup is simple and efficient.

My only complaint is that they’re a bit pricey.

This is perfect. Seriously. You can go to the Zippo website and find the same pack with no wick for $7 and $8 shipping. Here, you end up saving $8. All of these are premium Zippo licensed products. Perfect for a new Zippo owner, and a better deal then you can get anywhere else.

There are no noticeable differences apart from the 12oz can except for the can. In a way, it’s more portable if you ever need to bring a smaller amount of lighter fluid with you, without the 12oz weighing you down.

Although bulk quantity tends to be cheaper in 12oz, this would fit in tighter spaces and the cap is less troublesome to take out with your nails. It’s very user-friendly.

It comes out to cash so i am constantly flooding my Zippos they should make it so that they have a better delivery system. But I have and always will love Zippos the smell is kinda strong but better to be noticable then silent.
