20 Best Chardonnay Under 50 (2022 Updated)

I’ve always opted for bottled wine. For many reasons that is, one being the classic look it gives to walk into a party or gathering teasing everyone’s taste buds as you glide pass. Secondly, it seemed as if it will be easier to refrigerate or place on top of your home bar.

I decided to grab the boxed Franzia one day as i was in a rush and there weren’t any bottles of Chardonnay left. I got home popped open the cut out and began to pour wine into my favorite glass. As i drank and watched my favorite tv shows i forgot that the wine i was enjoying came from out of a box.

It was the same as the wines i thought were better because they were in a fancy bottle. I not only enjoyed the taste which wasn’t to dry or to tart just the way i like it. It also seemed as if i had it around longer than my original bottled wine which seem to get stale after its opened and sit out for a few days.

I would recommend Franzia Vintner wine to anyone looking to enjoy a nice glass of wine with friends or alone on a any given night.

I love this wine! It’s under 20$ usually and it is equal to 5 bottles of wine! So it’s a great deal in my opinion. I feel like it’s the best bang for my buck no doubt about it! It has a great clean taste as well! Try this brand out if you are a wine junkie like myself☺️.

Very refreshing when served chilled, not to sweet! We’ve been buying this wine for years. Although when we lived in California it was like $12. 99, here is Ohio it’s closer to $20. Not Franzia’s fault just kinda annoying 🙃.

Black Box Chardonnay is one of the better box wines — actually, the tastiest one I’ve had, and with enough depth of flavor that it goes well with food or by itself. It does what a box wine is supposed to do and does it nicely: it’s relatively inexpensive, it stays tasty for quite some time after it’s opened (at about 2 weeks it starts to taste strange), and (lying on its back) it fits tidily into the refrigerator without leaking.

The unopened boxes are easy to store, also — mine are waiting under the bathroom sink.

Black Box does a good job with some of the fuller-bodied reds, so it’s no surprise that their Chardonnay also is good. It’s not very complex, but it is more minerally like an old-world Chard than super buttery like a California Chard.

I like that. But, I can also pair it with a nice chicken menu.

This was the first box wine I’ve ever tried. Black Box Chardonnay made me fall in love with Chardonnay. I used to not be big on white wine but my favorite white wine is Chardonnay. The alcohol content is pretty high.

I also love the price. Kroger prices this wine the best for I believe 16. 99. Box wine also last a while so I would recommend this wine for a fun weekend with friends.

The traditional Barefoot Chardonnay white wine has the following character: Aroma: The wine bottle opens with lovely fresh fruit like sweet peach, fresh green apple, nutmeg, and sweet vanilla aroma notes.

Flavor: It has a medium body with the tempting flavors of citrus, peaches, crisp green apples, and honey. This Chardonnay wine also has a creamy mouthfeel and a hint of acidity followed by a long, smooth finish.

Alcohol content: The wine has a 13% ABV and is light and easy to drink. Grapes: The primary grape of this wine is Chardonnay (82%), but it also has small amounts of Riesling, Viognier, and Gewurztraminer grape varietals.

Winemaking: The traditional Barefoot Chardonnay wine is fermented in American and French oak barrels. Some carbon dioxide is added to the final blend to enhance the wine’s fresh and lively texture.

I like Barefoot products. Affordable non special occasion stuff. The Chardonnay is a true California type chardonnay, not light and airy, not super heavy, though it is on the heavier side to me compared to alot of modern chardonnays.

It’s not real buttery, but it is smooth. A little oak, not much. It’s not tangy. At this price point, it’s a good deal for sure. And anybody that likes california chardonnay, should like it fine. It’s nothing special, buy it’s nothing offensive either.

I am pretty picky when it comes to my wine. I’m always excited and motivated to try new wine varieties, but when it comes to giving my opinion, I’ll always be quick to say if I don’t like it. This wine is excellent and especially at such an affordable price point.

It is smooth and not too dry. It has a nice combination of notes that compliment each other. I serve it often when having friends over and they always enjoy it. It is perfect to serve with seafood and chicken dinners too!.

Stay away from 2020. I have regularly had either 2019 or 2021 bottles and have to say that 2020 must have been a bad year for the vineyard. Tastes unbalanced, more dry but in a bad way, missing slight tropical fruit hint and smoothness.

It’s also slightly effervescent when poured-never the case with other years of production.

This Chardonnay is very good. One of my go to wines. The price point of less than $20 is an amazing value. Very comparable wine to Rombauer but at a lower price point. Definitely a great buy! Drinks like a $40 bottle.

This wine lingers and has a nice finish, typical of the higher priced Chardonnays from Sonoma. However recently I have noticed that the ‘screw-top’ closures are not very secure. Four of the six bottles that I recently purchased started leaking when stored on my wine rack.

Remember the Big Oaky Chardonnays of the 1990’s? Well this drop from California is a throwback to those heady days. This wine delivers that delicious oaky mouth feel, and a delightful after-taste. If you like this style of Chardonnay, you will like this bottle.

Another great option from Simi Vineyards. Delicious, flavorful, and crisp. Great to pair with a meal or just to enjoy on its own. Simi Vineyards is a top of the class wine. They don’t lead you astray and they won’t disappoint, no matter what you’re looking for.

Chocolate is love, i generally like dark chocolate as I’m diabetic, but every chocolate is great. It makes me feel better after a long day and eating chocolate is a great feeling. It tastes bitter in the beginning but when ur abt to finish it, the taste kinda gets to you.

i’m quite partial to a white wine some times. when having a glass it has to be sweet tasting and full of flavour. this is both. it is also a very affordable product making it a good purchase which i would recommend.

it comes also as a multipack of individual sized bottles for those who want them on the go or don’t want to open a full bottle. it’s light and fruity without being. acidic or hard to drink.

This is hands down one of the best Chardonnay’s I’ve ever had. It is extremely affordable and tastes so light and delicious. Cheap wine for an extremely high end taste. My whole family is obsessed with it.

Bought this due to sale price and name. Solid California Chardonnay meaning good quality and value. Had mine with chicken salad with some fruit and Italian dressing. Wine was a tad light with the vinegar which overpowered the wine.

On a three week California trip I purchased at least 10 bottles of wine. This was our favorite. It went with everything we ate. We especially loved it with cheese, fruit and bread. However, it pairs well with spicy food, poultry and seafood.

For the price point it’s an excellent wine.

I really like the price and convenience of the bottle size-that way I can enjoy a glass of wine without opening an entire bottle. I just found the taste to be harsher than expected on its own. It is much better if made into a spritzer.

I’m sure it’s great in cooking.

I really love the small bottles. so much easier to store. The wine has a fruit flavor. I can definitely taste pear yet dry enough to pair with seafood and desserts. It’s very reasonably priced yet tastes like a higher end wine.

Mostly for me, having one glass is all I want. These small bottles provide 6 1/2 ounces which is just short of a cup. No waste by having to throw out a whole bottle. Perfect size for adding to your recipe.

My favorite wine to pair with a Chicken Caesar Salad.

Cheap wine that you can use to get you through the day. Great for the house to keep around and drink on a regular day. Fresh crisp taste for a low price. Don’t worry about drinking the whole bottle because each individual wine is package for individuals who like to feel fancy without going broke.

So, New Year’s Eve changed quite a bit for me. I had several options originally and then slowly due to issues it ended up being me and my cat on the sofa. now don’t get me wrong I’m totally okay with that.

But I wanted to make it something special. So I lit that candle that I’d say saved. I used the shower steamers that I always forget to use. I rocked a hair mask. And I broke out what for me it was a pretty good wine.

In this case I try to be Josh Chardonnay. Super smooth. I don’t taste the fruit but I can smell that sweeter fruity taste. I also threw a bit of it in a sauce that I was making and that came out pretty well.

Overall I appreciate the opportunity to try this wine via influenster and I think if you tried it you’d like it too.

This Chardonnay to me okay. It was in the dry range. For a person who usually enjoys semi to sweet wines, unfortunately, I have to say I did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would. The taste to me reminded of the whole bark of a tree, with no other flavors coming through.

I’ve paired this with Roasted Chicken and grilled Vegetables.

I liked the upfront taste of the Chardonnay. Smooth. It has the typical Chardonnay aftertaste too, which to me is kind of savory. It went well with Christmas charcuterie boards. I thought the price was decent, however, my favorite is one that is a smidgen cheaper and had more flavor so I likely won’t switch to this one.

It has a good flavor for a medium-low priced wine. The Josh brand seems to specialize in reds, and the reds are better, in my opinion. However, this one is still good. I can find some I like better in the same or even slightly cheaper price range.

It is a solid go-to though, and easy to get since you can find it at most Target stores.

Very agreeable wine at an excellent price! Enjoyed this wine with homemade sushi and it was a perfect pairing in my opinion. It’s not too dry and has a smooth finish, which I really liked. While this is not my favorite Josh wines (I really like their reds), I would buy it again for sure.

I found this buttery Chardonay 3 months ago by chance. I bought it because it was such a great buy and it read buttery. I love buttery Chardonay and decided what the heck for the price I will try. The Robert Mondavi Private select is excellent.

It is not only a great buy but it is creamy and goes down easily without an after taste. I will continue to buy.

We have tried so many Chardonnay’s and found our tastes toward buttery, oaky and strong bodied. Two of our favorites are Cakebread and Rombauer. But for an everyday wine at such an outstanding price, we can’t find anything that comes close to our requirements as this Mondavi Buttery Chardonnay.

I hope Sam’s will continue offering this at such a low price. We buy a few bottles every time we’re at Sam’s.

This buttery chardonnay was not what I was expecting. It has a very strong perfume aroma, and a light body. It also has a very acidic aftertaste, with a slight butter finish. I think if it had more butter flavor it might not be so bad, but I definitely wouldn’t purchase again.

My husband + I agree that the 2020 vintage of Bogle Chardonnay is superior to their 2021 vintage. Although the 2020 doesn’t taste like a classic Chardonnay, it’s a remarkable wonderful, light crisp wine for people who are not fond of Sauvignon Blanc.

This is my favorite weekday go-to Chardonnay! Great price and wonderfully oaky, full-bodied Chardonnay with a crisp start on the tongue, a good mouth feel, and a lovely, long and smooth finish. Recommend not serving too cold; serve at recommended Chardonnay temperature.

I used to sell this, and I tell people it’s great because it is made from grapes grown by 5 generations of farmers, not cellar rats or trust fund babies. If you try a great French chardonnay, or something elegant like Jordan chardonnay, it’s the same as this one-focus on growing outstanding grapes, curb the malo-lactic fermentation, and give it minimal oak-voila, perfect chardonnay.

This one over-delivers every time. Their Merlot is great too, we prefer it over the cab and pinot noir even.

I bought this on recommendation from some friends, who apparently love it. This is what happens when a winemaker doesn’t want you to taste their grapes. Chardonnay can be beautiful, but this is just an obscene representation of how much new oak and malolactic acid can be pumped into a bottle.

If you like buttery oak bombs, this is probably right up your alley — but it can hardly be called wine.

I absolutely adore this chardonnay. It is smooth and buttery w a great finish. It goes great alone or paired w foods. It’s a tad on the expensive side unfortunately but a good comparable inexpensive bottle is Butter chardonnay.

This is definitely a wine to try though!.

My absolute favorite wine. I love how buttery and complex it is. I feel like it tastes great with lunch, dinner or even a light cheese and cracker snack. It’s a bit more expensive than my daily wines but not so much that I only drink it on special occasions.

I love Kendall Jackson! Kendall Jackson Chardonnay is my favorite, so when I saw you he low cal, low carb KJ, I had to buy it. It was horrible. It had a strong vinegar taste. I was really disappointed as I love KJ Chardonnay, Cab, and other wines.

I do not recommend. For a few extra calories, the regular KJ is so much better!.

I love KJ regular Chardonnay and decided to try their lower alcohol version. It tastes like a chardonnay and is lighter than the original version. I thought it was very good and will definitely purchase again.

I was surprised and delighted to find a lower calorie Chardonnay with such a crisp, full taste. This will definitely be on my go-to list when shopping for whites.

This butter Chardonnay is great. Smooth and exceptionally buttery , it goes down so easy! I love that it comes in big bottles. I’m usually a red wine drinker but sometimes this wine just hits the spot.

I was nor happy with the box wine at all . It tasted very flat. I would not recommend this to anyone. The bottled brand is so much better. I would give it a zero if the rating was available.

This wine is wonderful! I love to drink this on date night with sea food on any kind. It has a buttery flavor that adds just enough flavor to bring out others in food. I have got my sister hung up on this wine, and would recommend it to anyone.

I just didn’t like this wine. To me it tasted as if it was made with grapes that were over ripe. I know it’s not an expensive wine but I have had wines that were less expensive and that had a better taste.

Reading the favorable reviews made me wonder if the wine maker was not consistent in the wine making process. I’m not saying that is the case here as I don’t know. I realize that many considerations are involved in making wine and the quality can vary from year to year depending on things beyond the control of the wine maker.

Nonetheless, every wine maker should strive to be as consistent as possible and if one year produces an inferior wine because of, say weather, then the wine maker needs to adjust the price accordingly.

We love subtle buttery finish and smoothness of this wine! And finding out that the grapes are grown in a regenerative vineyard that is building healthier soil helps explain the delicious taste! When grapes are grown without chemical fertilizers and pesticides we find they taste better and make us feel better.

I love this! Very much a vanilla taste right off at first then fruity citrus type tastes is a tad acidic but not much & not real oaky I don’t like oaky taste. It smells like pears and apricots its semi-dry not too dry not too sweet so I say semi-dry.

Very smooth and creamy. I’m very picky about chardonnay i say its worth the money.

Great Value! Great value begins when something your wife loves is offered at 20% lower than you would pay anyway. Being in my wife’s doghouse on Friday, I spied an offer from Total Wine. 20% off that wine my wife loves-Angeline.

When the wine landed on the kitchen table-out of the doghouse I came & the weekend was saved.

Had it with mushroom risotto. Overly perfumy nose. Lacked the acid backbone needed for good food pairing. If you like this flavor profile, I could see sipping it at cocktail hour. Otherwise, plenty of other chards to choose.

I was pleasantly surprised to like this wine as much as I did ! I’m a fan of Monterey Coast (CA) Chardonnays so was surprised to like this Napa company’s California Chardonnay. Assuming there would be an overwhelming Napa influence but that is not the case.

Will be stocking up on this label.

As Bobby Bare says in his song “Numbers,” “And since there ain’t no zero, I give you a one. ” This is undrinkable swill. Really. I’ve had plenty of mediocre wines over the years. They’re pretty common, especially in this price range.

I bought two bottles because the reviews were pretty good. A risk that didn’t pay off. I took a sip and gave it to my wife and she took a sip. And then I dumped it down the sink. I don’t think I’ve ever done that, but unquestionably it was the right strategy.

I gave my extra bottle to a family member to see what they thought. Tonight I got a text from them. They dumped it down the sink, too. Save your money. This stuff is awful.

I bought this Chardonnay due to the marketing push behind it by TW and I was beyond disappointed upon opening it. It’s hard to describe the taste, but it wasn’t even drinkable. If someone recommends this wine to you then you should not trust their judgment when it comes to wine.

I discovered Iter by chance when looking for a chardonnay that had more body, butter and oak. Lovely deep yellow hues foretold that I would indeed get my wish. Too many chardonnays are just flavorless and without character.

If you want a more robust Chard, try Iter.

This’s an amazing chardonnay with bitterly taste in my tongue plus the out buzze of juicy white grapes. The tanning is bold & sharp. It’s good with some garlic fried sardines or Japanese sashimi. It’ll really gives u & your friends a very relax & enjoy evening.

This wine is excellent. Very buttery, a little expensive but in lock down this is a must have chardonnay. Hope you continue to stock this chardonnay as it is the only wine we truely enjoy.

Bogle’s other Chardonnay is my “every day” Chardonnay. It’s dependably rich, buttery, and oaky. When I saw that they also offer a premium Chardonnay, I was excited to try it. I was disappointed. For over twice the price of their other Chardonnay, I expected twice as much flavor and enjoyment.

I plan to do a blind tasting but based on my initial impression, do not expect to find much difference between the two.

This is a great everyday Chardonnay. Its very slightly sweet with notes of tropical fruits. If you prefer a more dry Chardonnay this may not be for you. It’s very pleasant and easy to drink especially when very chilled.

This product is absolutely amazing! I recommend it to all of my friends and family . It makes for a great gift as well as a personal fave ! Lovely
