20 Best Cheap B550 Motherboard (2022 Updated)

I originally bought a Phantom Gaming 4 but returned it and in the middle of shipping transit I decided to upgrade it to the ROG Strix. The main reason was the BIOS flashback feature as I had an AMD 5600X for it.

It seems it was a newer stock item so it already had the updated BIOS. I still tried the BIOS flashback feature to upgrade to the newest BIOS and liked it. Overall it’s a great motherboard. I only put 4 stars because of two things.

One it lacks an ARGB header on the top of the motherboard so all routing has to go to the bottom and daisy chain from there. Another is not really the motherboard but ASUS AURA RGB software. It kept reverting to red, which is the default color.

After a quick online search I found you have to change an XML file on the Aura folder to Read-Only as a workaround. I don’t like that I had to do that as if I want to change I want to remove the Read-Only attribute, change to the new setting, and then set again to Read-Only.

On the plus side, I liked their fan control software as it detected the fans and set the AIO pump automatically to 100%, versus the Asrock software on the Phantom Gaming 4 (I have another one on a different system which is why I initially bought another and then decided to try a different model).

However, you need to do an additional download of the AI software suite after you install the Armory Crate for the ASUS Fan control software to be available. A cool feature is the “eye” logo on the board that stays on even after you turn off the computer.

This feature lets you know if you have the Power Supply switch on or off, that is, if the motherboard is still receiving power or not. Also I noticed that as I did some troubleshooting and swapped components around my two computers, the same hardware stayed way cooler, around 10-15 degrees less on the ASUS ROG versus the Asrock Phantom.

I also liked some other nice touches that are bit more high-end on the ROG like the thermal pads and covers on the M. 2 slots, but of course the ROG is a more expensive board so you expect more high-end features.

One final comment is that the VRM covers on the top of the motherboard conflicted a bit with the screws of the 240mm AIO I installed so I had to fiddle around that. The AIO fans went into the top PWM headers so I also have very little clearance for the wires to avoid hitting the fans.

You could say this is an issue with the case height but on the Asrock this was not the case as the headers were located differently and I had the same AIO.

Great feature set with some style, but more than one thing annoyed me: RMA process was inconsistent with claiming advance RMA was available, RAM QVL was not available for Ryzen 5000 series at launch then was more limited than 3000 series, and insufficent notes on EATX12V connectors.

I would only get this mobo if you like the feature set compared to other mobos – Otherwise get something different and cheaper. Features go beyond what I need like a thunderbolt header, 2. 5 gbps Ethernet, USB 3.

2 Gen 1 header, built in I/O shroud, and the all important BIOS flashback with USB for my 5600X worked great. SATA data cables are unfortunately right behind where the main GPU goes, requiring case’s rear panel to be removed to disconnect SATA cables.

Slots 1, 3, 5 are closest to the GPU while 2, 4, 6 are one port away. I couldn’t get SATA cable to release even with thin tools. Optical audio port fits looser than any other mobo or audio device I’ve used, as easily slips out if small to moderate tension exists.

Armory Crate software has been mostly good for updating drivers & BIOS plus basic RGB/AURA effects, though one Armory Crate update for “Device Kits” failed until I did a restart. Auto OC is awesome if you have an aftermarket cooler, but resulted in Deus Ex Mankind Divided being unstable, crashing about once per hour.

RMA was the only way I could confirm whether I had a mobo or CPU issue in handling RAM. Turned out it was CPU, not this mobo.

– I got this motherboard together with AMD 5800X and DDR4 as upgrade for my old system: Asus Z-97E + Intel I5-4590 + 16Gb RAM + NVIDIA GTX 1070TI + SSD + 7200RPM SATA drive + Cooler Master G650M 650W 80+Bronze (circa 2015) Unfortunately, after I assembled everything, system would randomly reboot, mostly when watching some videos online in the browser (i.

e Netflix). After disabling ASUS performance optimizations in the BIOS the system became more stable, would reboot once every two three days. I originally attributed this to my old PSU, and ordered a new one Seasonic FOCUS PX 850.

Unfortunately, it made system even less stable. I also tried with yet another PSU – Corsair RM750, with the same result. I disassembled everything and assembled it back, and tried yet another PSU from my other home computer ( Rosewill – BRONZE Series – 1000-Watt 80+ Bronze) that one works a little better, but I am still getting about one random reboot per day.

The last one watching the new year show. Strangely enough, running CPU stress tests (stress-ng) for hours or memory tests with memtes86 does not find any errors, and doesn’t trigger reboot. So, I am going to return this motherboard.

ASUS have significantly over-designed the heatsink blocks around the CPU socket, making this board effectively incompatible with all but the most minimal air CPU coolers, and the major AIO/water blocks on offer too.

Beware when buying, check to make sure your cooler is compatible, then check again. Most sites are wrong, this thing can only take coolers with minimal footprints. This largely defeats the purpose of a high-end board, which you would pair with a high-end CPU in turn needing a large cooler.

ASUS have had this issue since the z390 but despite the 3 generations since are still choosing chunky aesthetic blocks rather than ensuring compatibility. Additionally, these boards have seen significant issues with their secondary m.

2 slot not being recognised by either the bios or Windows. Their first m. 2 slot is also improperly spaced, so that the “squishing” heatsinks don’t make full contact and instead bend your SSD. Overall there are a lot of issues with this board that you should no expect from a costly high-end product.

Steer clear.

No this is not a great value board. Not even close. But what I can say is that its robust, flawless, packed with features and you can force almost any modern AIO onto the socket. I saw many other people had various problems getting PCIe 5.

0/nvme drives/ memory working. I had exactly zero issues with this board everything worked for me out of the box with Trident Z5 6000 Mhz, Rocket4plus 2TB, a GTX 1080 and the 12900K. If you bought top shelf components then this is what you need.

I highly recommend performing the washer LGA 1700 ILM socket fix as it will net you around 5C+ lower temps on this board (tested with X63 Kraken with 12900K). You can actually feel the difference in heat transfer around the radiator after the washer fix.

I’m not liable for whatever you do to your board, but it does seem to me that the ILM washer fix was very easy to do and not that dangerous of an operation. So, if you’re on the fence and you have the screw driver with a star head and 4 washers from your AIO/case parts give it a shot.

Two downfalls to this board and one is fixable: 1) price 2) DDR5 6000 RAM and up won’t work with their specified XMP 3. 0 profiles yet They just spit out tons of memory errors in memtest. Hopefully a BIOS update will fix this in the near future.

4 stars because its overpriced but a no brainer for enthusiasts.

I’ve had nothing but issues with this board since I got it. Ironically, the bad Intel NIC everyone seems to have an issue with has been the most reliable thing on this board for me. The issues first came up a day after I installed the new MB in my system, when I was playing a game and my PC just shut off, without warning.

After 3 seconds it rebooted itself into Windows like nothing had happened. I thought that was odd and proceeded to try to game again, and it happened again. First thing I did was re-seat all my components.

I then ran a CPU stress test as well as MemTest86, and everything came out great. I then tried to game again and again, the PC simply shut off and rebooted after about 5 minutes of gameplay. Next thing I did was use a different PSU, thinking perhaps it was a power issue.

Installed the new PSU and again, the PC would shut off. After a few days, a new BIOS version came out and I immediately updated to it thinking that it may fix these instability issues I was having. but it unfortunately did not.

Now, after that update, I am having issues where the PC will shut itself off multiple times when started from a complete off. Watching the PC, it will start up and all the fans will be full blast, then it will run for 10 seconds and shut off, then after a few seconds it will restart.

After doing this cycle, the LED for the RAM will light up indicating an issue with the RAM. The only way to break that loop that has worked for me is to completely unplug the system, turn off the PSU, hold the power button to clear any residual electricity and then plug the PSU back in.

After I do that, the PC will start normally. My only conclusion is that the motherboard is faulty, as every component I have has been checked as well as ran in another system. The CPU works great, the PSU is brand new (tried 3 PSU’s in total) the RAM cleared MemTest86 as well as is on the QVL for the board AND worked great on an old Gigabyte board I use to test components, the SSD is fairly new and in good shape according to the Sandisk SSD health check and my GPU works flawlessly without issue.

That leaves the motherboard as the only piece that I can possibly think of that is having an issue, as I have checked all other components pretty thoroughly. the sad thing is, once it does start the PC will work fine while doing any task besides gaming, the whole reason I built it.

I can run stress test after stress test, brose the internet, watch movies, open 20 Chrome tabs, and not have an issue but once a gaming load happens the PC just says “nah, I’m out” and shuts off. Incredibly frustrating as my other Gigabyte B550 board has worked without issue for over a year now, absolutely flawless and now this, more expensive board, completely baffles me In fact, the only reason I got this board was because it’s one of the very rare white themed board, the other being the Gigabyte Vision D which is wayyy more expensive.

Starting to think I should have saved for it.

Solid motherboard for the price. The only issues I had with the build process were more or less on me. The M. 2 screws are soooooooo small and in a tiny plastic bag that’s easy to miss. I thought they had been left out of the box, but later found the small bag sandwiched between pages of product info in the box.

The other issue was seating the RAM. The last time I built a computer both sides of the DIMM slot had tabs that opened – DIMM slots on this board only open on one side. After spending way longer than I care to admit trying to get the RAM seated, I turned to Youtube and found that you have to partially insert the memory on the side without the tab, then basically walk the memory down to the side with the open tab.

Went in without issue using this technique. Overall, I’m very happy with this motherboard.

Here’s the short version, I purchased this motherboard for three simple reasons. It has the six Sata ports which I need, it has a better build quality than the lower end X570s, and it has support for the latest Ryzen Processors.

It has behaved as expected, looks great and has great thermals. This board is (currently) less than the X570-A PRO, with most of the feature set, and a superior build quality. For almost everyone this board goes above and beyond what is needed.

The Long version, MSI thank you. SIX Sata ports should be standard on all full size ATX motherboards. If it weren’t for MSI I’d probably have to chuck away two of my drives. Build quality is great, I finally have enough fan headers, and the integrated IO shield is a nice touch.

Overall, I am very happy with this board, despite its shortcomings… Installation was a feat and a half. Due to this motherboard’s lumps of metal (which I hesitantly call heatsinks) and the positioning of the CPU power header, the clearance from the fan blades in my NZXT h500 is approximately 1mm.

The anti-vibration screws I was using no longer fit. However, this seems to be the standard layout for most Ryzen Motherboards, so is simply something to bear in mind when upgrading from a non-RYZEN based CPU.

So back to the Lumps of metal. The heatsinks are aesthetically pleasing, and somehow they seem to offer sufficient cooling. But they are just lumps of metal, I would have preferred to see a more traditional fin based design.

If only to make it easier for air to pass through or just to make it seem that the components were running as cool as possible. The Main complaint I have is with the MSI Centre program (formally MSI Dragon Centre).

Although somewhat useful, the program fails to apply any settings (excluding RGB) after rebooting. Each time my PC is restarted, I have to manually reapply things like fan settings, for each individual fan.

Ultimately, I have chosen to use the BIOS instead, but considering that this feature worked perfectly in MSI Command Centre (on my old MSI Motherboard from 2014), it should work on new systems. Upgrades should improve stuff, not make it worse.

Hopefully one day, MSI centre will include basic features which are fully functional and tested. Even simple ones like, a board explorer (similar to the one in the BIOS), GPU information, multiple temperature sensor readings, the ability to set case fans based on a different temperature sensor to the default, and for said fan settings to actually apply when booting into Windows.

As for RGB, this motherboard has some ARBG LEDs, which is nice. I would have liked there to be more of them, or for the ones that it does have to be dissipated rather than just obvious individual diodes.

The ARGBs on the Wraith Prism cooler (that comes as standard with some AMD processors) work perfectly in MSI Centre, so long as the RGB connector is unplugged. for some reason. It would have been nice if there was a USB header next to the RGB one, so that I didn’t have to route the necessary cables so awkwardly.

In conclusion, a great board. A few quirks, some that will hopefully be fixed with software updates. Recommended.

This Motherboard is an absolutely fantastic bit of kit. I’ve built a couple of systems using this board and it’s by far one of the most stable and reliable boards I’ve personally ever used. There were a couple of minor teething issues to begin with (as there usually are when any new platform releases), particularly with the onboard audio and LAN, but these soon got ironed out once the BIOS had time to ‘mature’.

From a technical standpoint the board is absolutely superb as it just oozes quality and comes packed full of awesome features. The Wi-Fi in particular is incredibly good (one of the most reliable I’ve used in fact), and it comes with a whopping 13 rear USB ports (a nice mix of USB 2.

0, 3. 2 Gen 1 and 2, and one Type C). The aesthetic of the board is also very good, one of Gigabyte’s nicer looking boards in my opinion. It’s a nice blend of matte black and gun metal which will suit most builds, and there’s even a teeny bit of RGB thrown into the mix if you’re into that.

The only negative point I can think of about this board is the fact that there’s no RGB Fusion option in the BIOS. It would be good to be able to control the RGB from the BIOS as opposed to Gigabyte’s RGB Fusion software, which can be a bit temperamental sometimes.

Overall, I would highly recommend grabbing one of these if your looking to put a stable and reliable system together that has most, if not all the bells and whistles you will need. A big shout out to Scan as well for their absolutely top notch service as always.

As you can see in the other reviews, the simplicity of this board is what makes this a great product. Easy to build on, plenty of headers, and aesthetically satisfying (minus the RGB). Since I like my PC flashy the RGB on this board is very miniscule.

If you’re looking for something bright this board is not for you. Now the BIOS is where I have to shed one star off this review. The settings where you adjust fan speed is designed for advanced PC users.

For casual users like myself this was a bit tricky. Other boards I dealt with makes this function a lot simpler, and easy to customize. In terms of overclocking, I can’t comment on that since that is something I do not do.

I would still highly recommend this board due to the price and as mentioned above the build simplicity,.

So I have not even got this motherboard working. I have a Ryzen 5600G processor, 32 gb of regulars 3200 g-skill ram, a msi 3070 ti and a MSI nvme drive. All of which is moot, because I can’t update the bios to F13 which includes the 5600G CPUs.

I can’t do a regular qflash in the bios because I can’t load the bios, I can’t use qflash plus because it seems to fail every time. I got this motherboard in a shuffle and I waited till I could afford a GPU and CPU and ram,.

Around Christmas it finally happened. But now the motherboard is basically dead to me. I have been told I need an older CPU to boot with so I can use the regular bios flash tools so my CPU will work.

I don’t have the money or access to old Ryzen CPUs, I’m just frustrated,. This should not be this difficult, and with supply shortages and long waits, shuffle bundle deals makes being able to return stuff nearly impossible.

I’m stuck with a board I basically can’t use. Tired of trying.

Solid board. Power and VRM seem better than anything else at this price point, and with good WIFI and LAN it’s great value alternative to top of the line B550 or mid-range X570 if you don’t need lots of USB/SATA or more than one PCIe 4 NVme.

Good enough for Ryzen 9 build at stock or PBO. CPU boost clocks are running at or above spec and XMP profile for Corsair 3600 RAM loaded without issue. Auto settings tend to overvolt CPU (as expected from ASUS), so room to tweak manually if you want/need for better thermals.

DOWNLOAD LATEST BIOS (!) – wouldn’t even post into BIOS out of the box with 5900X. Updated using BIOS Flashback on rear panel, which worked perfectly (a rare gold star for an Asus utility!).

The board itself is very easy to build with. There are several board makers with similar competitive products such as Asrock, MSI, and Gigabyte. Most of these check off the features I want as did this board.

I didn’t need the RGB, but I’ll take it, I don’t hate it. With a BIOS update, my usb issues seemed to go away, so I’m glad that this was fixed, although I see some early adopters spent a couple months dealing with these issues.

It’s a little odd to see the update progress slowly and then 2 more reboots while it updates led firmware and something else. I like the included accessory antenna for the wifi. Overall, this board is a good competitor amongst the B550 bros out there, but not a good price for the value, especially if you’re not making use of the pci-e 4.

0. There isn’t too much of a “seat of the pants feel” benefit yet. I’ve only owned this thing for less than a week, so this is a fresh review! Ryzen 7 5800x, 32GB Geil 3200mhz, 6700xt, 960 evo, other sata ssd’s and hdds, evga 850w gold supernova.

Disclaimer – I am receiving a warranty extension from ASUS for my feedback. I needed to build a new PC for the first time in about 15 years. My primary use case is for a Lab machine that I can run multiple Linux VMs and also dual boot into Windows 11 if I need to run a Windows app.

I wanted to use quality components and I remember using ASUS components in the past for my builds. In researching current motherboards, ASUS quickly rose to the top of my list. I wanted to use the AMD Ryzen 5700G so I wouldn’t need to buy a GPU, but still have the option to add one later.

I narrowed my choice down to the ASUS TUF Gaming X570-PRO WiFi II. It had USB-C support and other features I wanted at a good price. Once I built my machine I installed Windows 11 and Ubuntu 22. 04 LTS.

Both work great on this motherboard! I really like the Armory Crate app that ASUS provides that makes installing the correct drivers easy. The one issue I did have initially was WiFi and Bluetooth not being properly recognized.

After a bit of searching, I found a tip that I should power down the machine, unplug it, and flip the power supply switch while holding the on button for 30 seconds. After doing so WiFi and Bluetooth began working in both Operating Systems.

I highly recommend this motherboard for anyone looking at a new build!.

Getting this mobo to work was a pain in the butt. That’s the important takeaway here. The problem with this and many other ASUS motherboards is that it refuses to recognize your graphics card and fails POST.

Don’t waste your time re-seating the card or checking power cables. The card is not the problem. The motherboard has a BIOS configuration issue. The easy fix, if your motherboard has two full PCI slots, is to install the card in the second slot.

Boot up. Let the system POST, BIOS process, etc. Shutdown. Move your card back to the original slot. System will now recognize the card and boot normally. Other than that glaring problem from the outset, the motherboard has a nice feature set and has displayed no other issues.

It was a good price/feature option for me. The BIOS interface is pretty different from what I’m used to, though, and seems a bit more limited and simplified than traditional BIOS interfaces I’ve used in the past.

Not enough to ding it a star but something you may want to know when considering this board.

I was having problems with my desktop PC which I now use for both daily work and gaming. Prices on new motherboards and processors were at a point where it made sense to go ahead and replace both. This was an upgrade from a solid MSI X470 to an X570.

I was impressed right away with the Windows 11 boot speed and response time from the SSD. Everything was quick before, but this new motherboard makes it instant! It was easy to install and swap out memory, SSD and cables from my previous motherboard.

About two weeks in, I’ve had no problems with this new setup: It seems rock-solid to me. The only thing I haven’t really learned is how to create lighting effects with Aura Sync – not very intuitive, but I’ll eventually figure it out.

I do feel that this is an initial impression. My rating may change over time, depending on how this setup performs over the long haul.

What a great motherboard at a great price! I just really needed the cheapest board I could find, to house my “new” Ryzen 5800x CPU that I bought from a friend after he upgraded to a 5950x. I was more or less going to find the cheapest board that would serve that purpose and buy it.

When I found THIS Asus Prime B550M board, it was an open box item, which, I have previously used this option before at microcenter to “tier up” to a higher tier component for the price of the lower tier item if I had instead purchased it new.

Considering the level to which Microcenter warranties/guarantees their products I can’t imagine a scenario in which I would EVER regret buying an open-box item and quite frankly it’s one of my main reasons for shopping at Microcenter.

At the same time I also purchased a Red Devil 6700xt that was also open-box and am equally happy with that purchase. BUT quite frankly, I think when you buy a GPU you have a lot better idea of exactly what you’re getting, before ever actually using it.

With a motherboard there’s so many things that could go right or wrong that I guess it’s a slightly bigger risk. Well, of all the open box items I’ve EVER purchased from Microcenter this was by far the best one yet.

If I were to go back and do it again and there were none available in the open-box section, knowing what I know now about it, I may even STILL choose TO buy it new over a different brand/model that WAS available as open-box.

I know this isn’t a very “technical” review of the motherboard itself but anyone familiar with Asus’s BIOS will know one reason why I like this board so much, as I will likely run Asus motherboards in all my builds exclusively from now on.

I had also purchased one other Asus board for one of the many PCs I’ve built but it was a ROG Strix and I thought that the BIOS which I very much liked in that board, was specific to the ROG Strix line.

Now I see it’s seemingly more specific to Asus motherboards in general. What I really wanted to highlight in this review was my love of Microcenter’s option to purchase open-box items at about a 10% or better discount.

I really wanted this motherboard that made no compromises for performance, while maintaining a simplified appearance. It’s been a few months and while I’m satisfied with the board, I feel like it has both both more and less than what I need.

I really like the way that this board looks. I chose it because I wanted a motherboard that made no compromises. I didn’t care about RGB or any other accessories, but I still wanted a board with top of the line performance.

Well, if you’re like me and just want a board that performs well, this is it. That being said, I’m disappointed that Asus didn’t take things further. A lot of the press around this board emphasizes that it’s a server board made for consumers.

Well, I’ve seen server boards, and this isn’t it. Performance was sacrificed in order to make it look sleek and modern. The only thing that makes this a server board is the sheer number of sockets it has.

While I’m impressed with the number of sockets this board has, the functionality they provide leaves me wanting more. The accessories that these sockets support tend to be extremely niche. Meanwhile, there’s not a single USB-C socket on the motherboard! They included a Serial output socket, but couldn’t be bothered to add a USB socket!? Luckily there’s PCIE cards that add USB-C sockets, and this board has no shortage of PCIE slots.

The PCIE slots are definitely the highlight of this board. There’s three 4. 0x16 slots and one 3. 0x1 slot. Assuming that you’ve only got one GPU, you’ll be able to add tons of accessories to this board to help it keep up to date.

That’s a benefit very few motherboards can boast about. On top of that, the 4. 0x16 slots are reinforced, so you’re unlikely to break them. However, the bottom 4. 0x16 slot is directly above some of the motherboard’s sockets, meaning that you can’t use them if you want to run 3 GPU’s, unless your GPU’s have narrow shrouds and heatsinks.

These ports include the front audio socket and rtc ram/lan password clear pins, so there’s no way around it. There’s also a case fan socket down there, which is another problem entirely. The arrangement of case fan sockets on this board has no thought behind it.

There’s 3 sockets on top of the board, ONE on the right, one on the bottom, and one in the middle for the CPU cooler. It makes this board feel incompatible with modern cases, despite this board coming out in 2019.

Routing the fan cables sucked, and I wasn’t even able to install all of my fans. I’m planning on adding a fan controller eventually. TL:DR Buy this board if you like the way it looks. While it has some seriously overkill features, it’s lacking a lot of the modern comforts provided by other boards.

If you want an actual minimalist motherboard, check out MSI’s PRO catalogue. If you want an actual no-frills motherboard, look into ASRock Rack’s selection.

I rebuilt an old PC around this board. It proved to be easy to work with. I added a Ryzen 5500, 8GB G. Skill F4-3200C16D-16GVKB, an existing graphics card, and the existing SSD’s. Being a less expensive MB, there aren’t any error indicator LED’s for CPU/RAM/Boot issues – diagnosis would have to be by swapping components (which you would need to have available).

I had a problem with the first power supply I tried, but fortunately it seemed obvious that it was some kind of power issue, so I tried swapping that first and all was well. Once it was running, I enabled ASUS BIOS DCOP and brought the memory up to the spec’d speed with no issues.

The ASUS Q-Fan optimiser was very good for establishing the minimum RPM’s and for further tweaking the case-fan profiles to make them as quiet as possible. Later tweaks include turning off the lighting effects and reducing standby power consumption – easy enough via the BIOS.

I took off one star for lack of error indicator LED’s.

My home computer died, and I needed a new motherboard and CPU. I wanted to take advantage of the Ryzen 5 5600G. Many B550 chipset boards say they are ready for Ryzen Zen 3 5000 series, but most require a Bios update.

If you don’t have a spare CPU around this is a problem. This board has Qflash, which means that one usb slot is designated for updating the Bios. When I first booted the computer with this board, the Ryzen 5 5600G, my old M.

2 SSD, and my old memory (DDR4 2400), it didn’t post, it didn’t beep. I downloaded the latest bios to a Fat32 formatted flash drive (Fat 16 works also), put it in the designated slot, and rebooted. The computer recognized the usb drive and showed it on the screen.

I highlighted the Bios file and followed the simple onscreen instructions. The updated Bios flashed and open reboot everything started fine. I then installed openSuse Tumbleweed, its rolling distribution, and installation was a breeze.

I run TeX, Libreoffice, Kodi and the KDE Plasma desktop, and all work flawlessly. Tumbleweed is currently on the 5. 15 kernel. I have the board for two weeks, so I cannot comment on durability, so far it is great.

I haven’t tried Windows, and I am not gamer, so I cannot comment on this aspects.

One of the cheapest B550 boards on the market at the moment. It’s not packed full of extra features but does support flashing the BIOS without a CPU installed which is important if you intend to run one of the new Ryzen 5 5xxx processors with it.

The flashing is easy; copy the latest BIOS firmware to a USB flash drive, rename the file to GIGABYTE. BIN, plug power (and nothing else) into the board and press the Q-Flash button. The only small issue I have with it is the position of the SATA ports.

Ports 1, 2 and 4 are fine, but port 3 leaves the cable pressed up against the GPU shroud. It’s not a problem per se, the cable doesn’t foul the fan or anything, but doesn’t look great.

Its fine but with a head scratcher feature set and poor design choices. UPDATE: IT IS ALREADY FAILING AFTER LESS THAN 3 MONTHS. USB IS WONKY. Started acting up about 2 weeks in to ownership. Thought it was my devices at first, then today it’s completely dead.

No USB works for more than a minute before Windows loses the USB device. If I reboot, same deal.

Having chosen on a computer system centered on a Ryzen 7 5700G, I purchased this particular board based on the impression given by other reviews here and elsewhere that it was well built. I was fully aware that there was a better than even chance it would need a BIOS flash before it would even recognize my CPU well enough to even boot into BIOS.

So I tried to do the Q-flash routine on an empty board as seen on various YouTube videos. It did not seem to work, but the only way I could be sure was to assemble and try to boot. No luck. But I had read that although Q-Flash was supposed to be done without components, I also read that hey, that’s the way it’s SUPPOSED to work, but sometimes it doesn’t.

so I installed the board in the case and added the following: (2) Intel 670p Series M. 2 2280 1TB PCIe NVMe 3. 0 x4 QLC SDSDs (4) G. SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Modules A Seasonic PRIME FANLESS PX-450, 450W 80+ Platinum, Full Modular, ATX12V & EPS12V, True Fanless Power Supply Ryzen 7 5700G CPU Guess what? I still couldn’t q-flash.

or Q-Flash either. It seemed that the process would start but not finish; fans would spool up, LEDs would light up, etc. So I pulled the components out again. I read, in several online forums (fora?) that I should try a variety of USB drives.

and that formatting with Windows XP was the magic cure, or to use a 16Kb allocation size rather than default, or a smaller capacity older drive, etc. I tried naming the BIOS file GIGABYTE. BIN, GIGABYTE.

bin, gigabyte. bin (but not “gigabyte. BIN”), using USB 2 and USB 3 sticks I had lying about formatted (all in FAT32, of course) using Linux, Windows 10 and Windows XP, all to no avail. I didn’t really do this in a very orderly fashion, so I’m sure I missed some or many possible combinations drives, formatting, and filename.

It worked the same every time – the q-flash LED would flash quickly for a while, then stop briefly before flashing 10 times slowly and then just stopping. The board wouldn’t completely shut down and even waiting a half an hour did nothing.

Then I gave up on this process and reinstalled just the processor and two sticks of RAM. Somehow this allowed me to boot into BIOS, which I couldn’t do with the board all populated with other stuff. Then I could do the q-flash from there, although it was necessary to highlight the filename on the list of USB files and hitting the “enter” key rather than just selecting “next” or “continue” or whatever the choice was.

After that I completed the assembly process, and from then on things have worked well. I mention all of this because as good as this board seems to be, the ability to q-flash the BIOS was kind of a sine qua non necessity for my usage.

If I knew anyone from whom I could borrow a processor supported by the F11 BIOS it would have been an inconvenience but not insurmountable. But I’m not in any gaming or other computer geek circles so I needed something I could get to function on my own.

Other than that significant issue, I would think the board is worth recommending.

I’m a video editor and was looking to make some upgrades to my system. Due to editing raw video codecs I decided to stick AMD for the blunt power of many cores; but I won’t be jumping to AM5 until the platforms matures a little first to avoid any instability issues.

I needed a motherboard that offered at least two extra PCIe slots each with 4x lanes or greater for my extra cards – which is surprisingly difficult to find. Plus some m. 2 slots for fast storage. Threadripper was beyond what I could afford.

This is one of the few AM4 motherboards that allows you to fully populate all of the M. 2 slots and PCIe slots. Many others that offer 4x M. 2 slots and extra PCIe slots won’t allow you to use them all at once due to the limitations of the chipset; such as populating all m.

2 slots will turn off a PCIe slot and so on, so you have to do some careful research into the what can and cannot be used at the same time. So while this board doesn’t offer 4x M. 2 slots, it does mean that all 3x of them can be used at the same time as all the PCIe slots.

Incase you’re curious the board has been populated with a graphics card, Blackmagic Decklink 4k Monitor Card, a 10Gbe ethernet card, NVMe boot drive, NVMe scratch disk, and SATA SSD file storage. I’m hoping that someday someone will make a motherboard with heaps of bifurcated PCIe expansion to give users like me more expandability without the need to jump up to threadripper; but until then this will fit my requirements perfectly.

I’ve had three good builds with Asus MB ‘s from the Athlon era, and this B550 board did not disappoint me. I could quibble about pin locations, side facing SATA ports, and having to cut the button side of the port shield, but these minor things apply to other boards, too.

The flashback feature saved my Ryzen 5600x cpu install. The BIOS download instructions for flashback on Asus website are very literal and must be followed to the letter, as I learned. 1. Use the rename tool with the BIOS download to rename the file from the long download name to the short xxxx.

CAB name. 2. Put the file on the root directory of a flash drive formatted (old) FAT, not FATe. New flash drives are FATe and do not format back to old FAT32. Find a old small capacity one. 3. If the green flashback light flashes three times and stays lit, then the flashback is not working.

4. If flashback is working, the green light blinks on and off for about ten minutes. 5. DO NOT interrupt the flashback process. Give it a good while to be sure it finishes. A small item: I paired this MB with an Asus GTX1650 TUF series graphics card.

Board and card combo is the best looking inside-case hardware I’ve ever seen!.

This is one fabulous looking mainboard with quality components and includes features that come screaming straight at you. I love the way Asus used their TUF colour scheme in the design of the mainboard.

Plenty of USB 3 port availability and also has 2 video out connections to boot (HDMI and Display Port). I also like that they have supplied a matching heatsink for the main NVMe drive. The only downside and issue that I encountered during installation was to get the memory to run at 3200.

The unit failed to post when manually changing the required settings for the profile. It took a bit of searching to find that you have to use slots A2 and B2 in order to use the paired memory at correct speed.

Once that issue was resolved the pc now seems to be running as expected. I bought this mainboard over the 450 chipset in order to have some future upgrade capabilities, including PCIe 4. Also, I had to snap this up as it was on a Black Friday deal.

Hopefully, like my previous Asus mainboard purchases, this product will last me years come.

I bought this last month after it went on offer and I thought it was an absolute steal at the price. It’s got more kit than you know what to do with (I’m using around 6 USB slots, 1 M. 2 PCIe, and most of the SATA) and offers compatibility with both Ryzen 3000 and 5000 CPUs.

On that note, I’m using it with my Ryzen 5600x and it didn’t boot up nicely the first time so I went and used the pretty slick BIOS USB flashback feature. It worked perfectly and the board fired up. At this point I still had no image so I googled to find that my GTX 1070 needed a bit of an update to work with DP on the newer boards.

It was fine on HDMI so I quickly got that sorted. Overall it’s a great board and I’ve had no issues with it so far. I’m using the same Corsair 3200MHz RAM that struggled to run at 2933MHz on my B350 board and I’m tootling along well at 3200MHz with pretty much no adjustments (16-16-16-16-36 and 1.

35V). I won’t be overclocking but may well try out some faster RAM seeing how nicely this one runs. Definitely recommended as an alternative to the MSI and Gigabyte stuff, especially when the pricing is so competitive.

EIgentlich bin ich der Marke MSI sehr zugewandt und sie waren für mich immer die Go-TO marke wenn man mal wieder für einen Bekannten oder sich selbst einen Rechner bauen wollte. Davon spürt man leider nichts mehr, Rechner hängt sich im Betrieb auf, Startet teils gar nicht erst mit Glück nach CMOS Clear und läuft sehr unstabil insgesamt.

Klassischer weise würde ich bei diesem Bild denken, das ein Board defekt vorliegt Montags Produkt oder vllt. eine zu alte BIOSUEFI Version. Da ich das Board wie gesagt zwei mal Gekauft habe. kann ich sagen, es ist kein Board Defekt ! Beide Boards haben die Gleiche Symptomatik !! Nach einem Update auf die neuste BIOSUEFI Version wurde es nicht besser.

es wurde schlimmer ! Als Server Board ich weiß es ist nie dafür Konzipiert worden zusätzlich nicht zu gebrauchen da PCI-E Passtrough mit diesem Board nicht funktioniert ! Ebenfalls für jegliche LinuxGNU Installation schwer zu gebrauchen da der Realtek Chipsatz nicht Standard Mäßig von Debian erkannt wird ! Mit UbuntuPopOS geht es aber.

Ist für mich aber ein Neutraler Punkt, da man dies bei Board kauf nachvollziehen kann. Ich weiß nicht ob es ein Ausrutscher von MSI war oder ich wirklich zwei Montags Produkte bekommen habe, aber nach einem Tausch beider Boards durch ein GÜNSTIGERES Konkurrenz Produkt sind alle meine Probleme gelöst und alles läuft extrem Stabil.

Das Boards hat keine RGB Beleuchtung, dies war aber für meine Zwecke nicht ausschlaggebend. Einbau Mainboard konnte ohne Probleme eingebaut werden, nur ein kurzer Blick ins Handbuch reichte. Alles ist bebildert und selbsterklärend.

Die im 90-Winkel SATA Ports vom Mainboard, sind optimal. Hier kann man alle Kabel dem Kabelmanagement anpassen. Gleich 2 M. 2-Slots waren für mich nur einer der Kaufkriterien. Dank PCIe 4. 0 nutzen auch SSD ihre optimale Geschwindigkeit.

Auch nicht Standard ist der bereits vormontierten Kühler für SSD. Es sind ausreichend USB Ports vorhanden. BIOS Das bewährte MSI Click BIOS 5 kommt zum Einsatz. Mit einer einfachen und einer Advanced Ansicht für noch mehr Einstellungsmöglichkeiten.

BIOS Updates mittels USB Stick sind auch möglich. Alles in allem bin ich mit der Leistung, Ausstattung und Verarbeitung sehr zufrieden. Ich empfehle dieses Board jedem für ein Ryzen-System.

Ich hoffe ich bekomme schnell ein Ersatzmainboard geliefert. Ich werde es heute per Post zurückschicken sobald ich ein Reklamation-Ausdruck habe für die Retoure. Tatsächlich auch mein erstes MSI Mainboard, vorher hatte ich nur Asrock oder Gigabyte Mainsboards und damit lief es bisher reibungslos.

The motherboard was shipped to me working and after a short time, my GPU wasn’t being detected and I had to rely on the integrated graphics of my 10850k. Eventually figuring out it was the PCI-e controller, resetting the CMOS helped for a boot or two before the failure came again and stayed.

Sent motherboard to Newegg and was denied due to ‘bent pins’ on the CPU socket. 2 weeks after sending it out, I got it back, looked at it and saw there was a pin broken on the socket. Put it back together and tested with it still booting and exhibiting the same issue.

I contacted ASUS and the normal lines of troubleshooting were gone through before I was told to send it. Not knowing how the pin broke, and reading ASUS’s information online, I was expecting to have to pay a fee to have the boards socket replaced, but after seeing the part on the way, it was received about 7:30 pm a few days later and a replacement was on the way the following day.

This is the 2nd time in 16 years I’ve ever had an issue with an ASUS board (that wasn’t caused by a powersupply deciding to ground out internally) and the 2nd time I was floored with ASUS’s response and care for the customer.

From a BIOS chip sent to my address to replace my bad one in 2006 to the replacement for a bad CPU socket, ASUS really does have fantastic customer service, even to the point of contacting me ‘too much’ through the process to make sure I was kept up to date on how things were going.

Less the PCI-e controller being bad, the replacement board is the same as the previous with G. Skill 4400 cl16 sticks not being able to achieve their full speed, but that’s on me for not reading from G.

Skill on what they can do with the board. 4000cl15 is achievable though!.

This came free with the purchase of an 11700K week after labor day, 2022. Tons of features and overclocking options. Updating the BIOS and setting XMP and a 5GHz all core OC was painless and fast. Make sure when downloading drivers, in order to get the actual Chipset driver, you need to expand the available downloads.

Otherwise you’ll have about 4-5 “Unknown Devices” show up in Device Manager. Probably wouldn’t have had that issue if I used the included driver disc, but I didn’t have a drive to load them. Only Con I have is that the 24-Pin ATX power connector wasn’t an easy 90 degree connector.

Dig the basic ARGB profile, which is what is driving my AIO fans, case, and GPU lighting.

My first choice was the Gigabyte Z590 Ultra Wifi mobo, Best Buy did not have it in stock at the store, so I picked the Asus Z590 Tuf Plus Gaming wifi, there is, however a cheaper version, minus the Wifi… I installed this without any problem… except that you have to update your bios immediately (in my case) because I was using my old ssd with the windows 10 installed and my app programs to avoid any complications, I was upgrading from the Z390 chipset.

Everything is running smoothly so far, I have a minor complain, Asus use to provide the q connector with their old motherboard but for some reason they did not include one with this model, not a big deal but it would simplify front panel connection very much.

Oh, it does not have a Q led for post diagnostic, so you have to rely on beep and just cross your fingers. Anyways, if you are an overclocking gamer then this is recommended, I am not, so I disabled the Enchanced Performance, it saves power and the cpu remained much cooler.

Also if you do not like the led always on. you have to turn off the Aura in the bios or in the ARMOURY Crate… otherwise it might bug you if your pc is in your bedroom and while you are sleeping your PC will be bright.

Anyways, I am content with it, until the 12th gen motherboard comes out this year.

Great overall board, Upgraded to this from an X570. Yes some may say its going DOWN in features, however with a maxed out X570 (cam controller, fan controllers, RGB controller, PCIe wifi with USB Bluetooth and added a USB Hub) i was constantly getting USB controller issues.

If it wasnt for CAM i would NOT of needed this upgrade. So what did i benefit? All of the items i previsoully added to the X570 Aorus Elite was NOW on board. connected fans, rgb, all to the board with its onboard CAM controller.

Wifi and BT are built in (no extra card needed) and I only need one PCIe 4 slot (GPU is still PCIe 3) Cleaned up my setup. love the all black, minimalistic approach, easy to install and its an ASRock board by nature.

Slightly pricey at $249, picked up on sale for $230.

Aesthetically and functionally, this is a very nice looking motherboard with great port options for a variety of cases and components. My greatest frustration with this board is removing the metal shield.

I’ve had two versions of this board, the intel and amd versions, and the metal shield is not at all easy to remove to get access to what’s underneath, particularly for screwing the board into the case.

With both versions, I had to use quite a bit of force to remove the metal shield, which ended up distorting the board to the point where the metal shield doesn’t properly reattach. This could lead, as in my case it did, to the two PICe SSD covers not properly reattaching, or as also happened, the small magnets that attach to these two covers becoming removed from the board itself (they are only attached by small stickers and not even a part of the board itself)! I ended up buying SSDs with heatsinks as an excuse to not even use these two covers any more, rather than look at them sagging or constantly having to open the case and try to reattach them.

Board had issues. Installing any softwre on SSD (both 2. 5 ssd & 2 different NVME drives) would result in crash / lock up. I used 3 different known good CPUs, 4 different ram modules, one at a time, dual channel, and tried all four dim slots.

I used Nvidia RTX, GTX cards, also used a radeon RX 6700xt, and APU on ryzen 3 3200g. Different BSoD error every time for windows, linux would just lock up. Took back exchanged for Asus tuf x570, dropped it in and its up and running now.

Its a shame too, i was putting this in the NZXT h510. This board, in my opinion is the best looking mother board on the market. Just to bad. i would have been more productive putting a ham sandwich in my pc case.

I already had two ATX TUF X570’s with excellent results, so I went with Asus’s TUF family again for a more compact build, upgrading my daughter’s school+gaming PC. Installed it on an Antec NX200 M case.

Performs greatly with a 5600X CPU, and despite the form factor there’s decent clearance from the CPU to the PCIEv4x16/GPU slot to install a Noctua NH-U12S cooler comfortably in the vertical position.

This SKU doesn’t have wireless, but it has an Intel Ethernet 2. 5G NIC and it’s packed with USB ports up to 3. 2 and Type-C; it’s hard to find a Micro-ATX board with all I/O you need plus performance / price / VRM quality.

I only wanted Bluetooth so I added a $30 PCIe card for that; which I also like so I can easily upgrade the WiFi/BT AX chip in a motherboard that doesn’t have an easily-accessible M2 M-Key slot for that.

This still leaves one PCIe3x16 slot free so it’s OK for me. Only complaint is the limited number of chassis fan headers but that’s a common trait of Micro-ATX boards. Right now the available headers are just right for the build, but as soon as I can upgrade its GPU to something better and more power-hungry, I’ll probably want an extra fan at the top to help exhaust heat without much extra noise (many fans going slowly beat fewer fans going fast).

I can use the CPU_OPT header for that, or share the same header as the back fan’s with a splitter, not ideal solutions if you’re nitpicky about that stuff but again common tradeoffs of a compact build.

I’ve only had this motherboard for a few weeks and haven’t tested it to its full capacity just yet, but I love it. On a surface level, I find the design really cool and pleasing. There’s an RGB light in the bottom right that always glows and can sync up with the rest of my LEDs in my case for a seamless lighting experience.

Onto the more technical side, I had the staff at MicroCenter install this one for me (after having another motherboard in my PC that wasn’t compatible with my CPU), but from what I can tell all the slots are clearly labeled (thank goodness! on my old one the proper hookups were so hard to find and figure out) and easy to find, so setting it up would be a breeze.

The only thing I wish it had was more RGB headers, but splitters aren’t expensive, so I can deal with that in favor of a fast, reliable, and stylish motherboard. The WiFi extension was easy to figure out and set up, and despite my PC being in a basement apartment with my router in another room through thicker walls, it gets GREAT signal.

I haven’t had an issue with it not picking up a signal yet. Highly recommend this motherboard. It’s pricier than some others, of course, but you get what you pay for, and this one is certainly worth the price.

This motherboard is all-around a good performer. Build quality is high. Aesthetics are good. I have a couple of gripes with it. First, one NVMe slot is so close to the CPU socket that I couldn’t fit a drive in it with my AIO shifted to cool Ryzen chiplets.

The other NVME slot is buried under a cumbersome heat spreader with no stand-off to attach it. It’s easily fixable with some parts, but I was disappointed by the out of box NVMe compatibility. Second, the Aura Sync software is now bundled with the rather cumbersome Armory Crate software, which I’ve already uninstalled, so that was kind of disappointing as well.

On the bright side, it enabled resizable BAR with a couple of clicks, so I’m feeling positive overall.
